Subway Just Released Cheesy Garlic Bread That You Can Use For ANY Sandwich

Subway just announced the exciting launch of its Ultimate Cheesy Garlic Bread, and we can already smell the garlicky goodness through the screen. This Photo of George H.W. Bush's Service Dog Lying in Front of His Casket Will Break You
After the news of former President George H.W. Bush's passing at age 94 on Nov. 30, a photo of his service dog, a 2-year-old Labrador Retriever named Sully, is going viral. The pooch, who joined the Bush family this past June, "was specifically matched with the president to provide support during his daily activities" by America's VetDogs. Since then, the pair have been the best of friends, and Sully's Instagram account has slowly filled with snaps of him at his owner's feet. Now a new photo of Sully, lying not at former President Bush's feet but in front of his American-flag-covered casket, is breaking hearts all over the internet.
"Mission complete," reads the emotional photo's caption on both Sully's Instagram page as well as on Bush's spokesman Jim McGrath's Twitter account, which is where it first appeared on the night of Dec. 2. The photo will likely be one of the last of Sully supporting the Bush family, as his new mission will be to return to America's VetDogs for the holiday season. After that, he'll join the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center's Facility Dog Program to help wounded veterans with both physical and occupational therapies.

Question: does anyone actually enjoy holiday shopping? Personally, I find the whole ordeal stressful and intimidating. Finding the perfect balance between thoughtful and useful is not one of my strong suits. Can't I just get everyone a Snuggie and call it a day?! Well, according to The Chew cohost Daphne Oz, holiday gifting should be a touch frivolous. Oz was hosting the Kohl's Give Joy Shop in NYC when she explained her thought process. "You shouldn't buy people things that they can buy for themselves," she said. "Buy them the thing they will never get themselves because it's so crazy, or out there, or useless. I'm a fan of useless but beautiful things." We asked Oz to share more of here holiday gift-giving strategy and she laid out a few helpful tips.
Holiday Shopping Should Be a Year-Long Thing
Oz recommends always keeping your friends and family in mind during your travels. A gift that you brought back from your journey early in the year is one way to show how ridiculously thoughtful you are. "It means you remembered them during a time other than December," she said. "That feels so personal." Oz's go-to? Textiles from Turkey! "My father's family lives in Turkey. So, whenever I go there, I go to the bazaar and I get a beautiful, fun silk shawl pashmina type of thing, or fun Iznik, which are painted tiles and vases there." Stay a bit closer to home? She has tips for you, too.
Give What You Love
According to Oz, it's never good to assume you know someone else's taste. Instead, she recommends personalizing something you love, turning it into a gift they will cherish. "Last year I was super into gems and crystals, so I shared those with my sisters," she explained. "I also gave them a makeup bag filled with my favorite go-tos. My mascara, my favorite eye shadow, my favorite lipstick. And I personalized each product for their skin tone and eye coloring."

Since the Kohl's Give Joy Shop was stocked with dozens of top-selling product to purchase on site, Oz was able to spot a few gifts for those stragglers on her list. "An Instant Pot is a serious game changer for any foodies or wannabe foodies on your list. This is a steamer. It's a brazer. It's a baster. It's all-in-one," she said. "I also just love that it takes up limited space. People live in small spaces, they don't want a ton of appliances." That's the best part of the Kohl's pop-up shop. "Um, the POPSUGAR at Kohl's collection's pink velvet puffer coat is everything," she says. "I feel like I'm wearing cotton candy. It's cozy and warm. You can stuff it in a bag. I'm a big fan."

This Heated Mattress Pad Is a Total Game Changer For Those Cold Ass Nights
A heated mattress pad may sound like the sort of bedding accoutrement that your elderly grandparent boasts about, but lend me your ear. When the temperatures dip to the high 30s at night (at least they do where I live in Northern California), there's nothing quite as uninviting as climbing into a frigid bed. The sheets can feel glacial and rough, and while I'm not actually elderly, my bones can hurt.

And what's even better is that nothing changed, comfort-wise. There are no nagging coils, though occasionally I can feel the plug with my feet - it's located at the base of the mattress pad. It's not enough to irritate me, though, because I'm too busy blissfully falling asleep in my cozy cocoon.

I'm Really Strict About My Kids' Screen Time . . . Except During the Holidays
I've been known to be a little controlling about my kids' screen time. We don't own tablets (not even my husband and I), we don't have cable, and my kids don't own any gaming devices. I'm old school regarding technology and very proud of it. But during the holidays, I throw all of those rules out the window. A huge part of the holiday season is relaxing and spending time together as a family, which sometimes means lounging around the TV for long stretches of time. So, if that means my kids get an unlimited amount of screen time during the holiday months, so be it. I don't beat myself up over it.
One of my favorite things during the holidays as a child was sitting in the family room with my parents and three rowdy brothers. We'd watch tons of Christmas movies, eat holiday cookies, and just be together. Those memories are so special, which is why I forget about my strict rules for a little bit to do the same with my own kids. No, I don't let them watch TV all day and not interact with anyone, but I let their bodies and minds relax. And since we're stuck inside a lot of the time due to cold weather, screen time gives me a break, too. I don't feel the need to think of indoor activities or make sure they're stimulated and learning 24/7. Christmas movies marathons are just fine.
Last year, we loved watching Elf, A Christmas Story, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and more together. We hunkered down in our pajamas, passed around the popcorn and cookies, and watched the classic Christmas tales unfold in front of us. My kids couldn't contain their laughter when Will Ferrell inhaled spaghetti mixed with syrup and candy, which made my husband and me burst out laughing, too. So while my kids were engulfed in a screen, we were also making precious family memories. And it's so worth it every year.
And if we head to one of our relatives' houses for the holiday, I let my kids watch movies there, too. Nobody sits hovered over their own screens. We make sure that individual devices are put away, and we all enjoy something together. It's fun watching a movie with the family when the ages range between 4 and 83. When a grandfather and his granddaughter can laugh hysterically at the same Christmas joke, then the TV can be on all day long for all I care. These years with my kids and my parents are precious, and if movies are the thing that helps them create priceless memories, I'm all for it.
Sometimes I forget that movies and television help create some of the best family moments and memories, both during the holidays and after. It's the togetherness of the screen time that truly matters. Well, that and the 6-foot elf in green tights running around New York City.

A school in Buffalo, NY, just launched a literary program that might be the most creative thing we've seen in a while. According to this tweet (and a subsequent report on local station WBFO), students at Arthur O. Eve School are rewarded with coins they can then use in a vending machine. Except that instead of having these pre-k through fourth-grade kids load up on empty calories, they get age-appropriate books.
Tokens aren't based on merit; everyone at the school gets an opportunity to find something to read using the new book vending machine. According to WBFO, the Community Action Organization purchased the vending machine for $2,000 and spent another $1,000 on books.
