Sandra Bullock Might Be the Only Person Who Could Convince Me to Try Bright Red Blush
Pulling off red-on-red-on-red isn't an easy feat, unless, of course, you're Sandra Bullock.
For last night's screening of her new Netflix thriller Bird Box, Bullock stepped out in glowing monochromatic makeup that matched her fiery gown. Her bright, orange-red lip upped the intensity of her blush of a similar shade, while her straight lob framed her face. The entire look made her stand out in the room (not that she needs any help in that department).
See more shots of her at the screening, ahead.
Khloé Kardashian Got Pink Hair For Just $7 Because She Knows a Good Deal
When you see a celebrity hair color change, it's safe to assume that they're using top-of-the-line, probably expensive products to achieve their on-trend results. With Khloé Kardashian's new pastel pink hair, though, fans might be surprised to learn that it only took $7 to achieve.
Hairstylist Andrew Fitzsimons gave Kardashian the pink hue by spraying on the L'Oréal Paris Colorista 1-Day Hair Color Spray in Pastel Pink ($7) after creating mermaid waves with a flat iron, a rep for the brand told POPSUGAR. He then brushed through the color to give it a subtle, diffused effect. Kardashian looked gorgeous with the rosy hue, and for $7, we're eager to try it out ourselves.

One of the Sweetest Ornaments For Your Tree Is Something You Probably Throw Away Every Year
I had never had a real Christmas tree growing up, so many years ago, when I set out to get my first real one with my now-husband, Matt, I was mystified by the whole process. Matt was a seasoned tree farm shopper, so he took control of the logistics. I watched him shake firs to see how many needles fell off, I heard him haggle about price-per-foot rates, and when we finally chose our little fir, chopped it from its home in the ground, and dragged it to the seller's stand, I saw him point to the stump of the tree as a burly man sawed off the bottom of my overpriced greenery.
Matt noticed my confusion and explained that "any good tree seller" cuts the bottom inch or so off a tree, straight across, for better water absorption. That's when the man held up the tiny tree stump and asked, "Want it?"
I didn't, but Matt took it anyway. It sat in our house for a while, and as the holiday season got me more and more sentimental, I thought it'd be a sweet memento to keep, a reminder of our very first tree together.
So, I sanded the top a bit, wrote our names and the year with permanent marker, and forced in a little hook before hanging the makeshift ornament on the very tree it came from.
Ever since that first real Christmas tree, I've happily taken the wooden discs from the tree lots home with me. Many years, I didn't do anything with them, and they were recycled along with the tree come January. But some years I'd draw on them, etch words into them, or give them to my kids to color.
I've since discovered that my spur-of-the-moment personal tradition is shared by many. I've heard of people who cut bigger stumps and carve them into gorgeous ornaments, and on Etsy, there are countless ways to personalize your little slice of tree.
So before you throw yours away, consider taking it home with you and turning it into one of the sweetest ornaments for your tree, by your tree. For some creative inspiration, keep reading. (And if you're not so creative, you can send your wood slice to most of these Etsy shopkeepers to have them do it for you!)

I'm Really Strict About My Kids' Screen Time . . . Except During the Holidays
I've been known to be a little controlling about my kids' screen time. We don't own tablets (not even my husband and I), we don't have cable, and my kids don't own any gaming devices. I'm old school regarding technology and very proud of it. But during the holidays, I throw all of those rules out the window. A huge part of the holiday season is relaxing and spending time together as a family, which sometimes means lounging around the TV for long stretches of time. So, if that means my kids get an unlimited amount of screen time during the holiday months, so be it. I don't beat myself up over it.
One of my favorite things during the holidays as a child was sitting in the family room with my parents and three rowdy brothers. We'd watch tons of Christmas movies, eat holiday cookies, and just be together. Those memories are so special, which is why I forget about my strict rules for a little bit to do the same with my own kids. No, I don't let them watch TV all day and not interact with anyone, but I let their bodies and minds relax. And since we're stuck inside a lot of the time due to cold weather, screen time gives me a break, too. I don't feel the need to think of indoor activities or make sure they're stimulated and learning 24/7. Christmas movies marathons are just fine.
Last year, we loved watching Elf, A Christmas Story, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and more together. We hunkered down in our pajamas, passed around the popcorn and cookies, and watched the classic Christmas tales unfold in front of us. My kids couldn't contain their laughter when Will Ferrell inhaled spaghetti mixed with syrup and candy, which made my husband and me burst out laughing, too. So while my kids were engulfed in a screen, we were also making precious family memories. And it's so worth it every year.
And if we head to one of our relatives' houses for the holiday, I let my kids watch movies there, too. Nobody sits hovered over their own screens. We make sure that individual devices are put away, and we all enjoy something together. It's fun watching a movie with the family when the ages range between 4 and 83. When a grandfather and his granddaughter can laugh hysterically at the same Christmas joke, then the TV can be on all day long for all I care. These years with my kids and my parents are precious, and if movies are the thing that helps them create priceless memories, I'm all for it.
Sometimes I forget that movies and television help create some of the best family moments and memories, both during the holidays and after. It's the togetherness of the screen time that truly matters. Well, that and the 6-foot elf in green tights running around New York City.

I Aspire to Embarrass My Kids as Much as This Mom Singing Kelly Clarkson on a Jumbotron
🎶 SINCE U BEEN GONE 🎶
"Mom please sto-"
🎶 I CAN BREATHE FOR THE FIRST TIME 🎶 pic.twitter.com/4b5DQ7SzdE- Maryland Basketball (@TerrapinHoops) December 12, 2018
Mom Mandy Remmell wasn't afraid to step into the spotlight when the Fan Cam made its way around the arena at the Maryland Terrapins basketball game. With "Since U Been Gone" by Kelly Clarkson thumping in the background, Mandy went for it. Although she completely crushed her performance - and even used her phone as a mic - by the looks of her son Blake's body language, he was absolutely mortified.
To make the situation even worse for Blake, Maryland's basketball team shared the hilarious video on Twitter, and as you could've guessed, it's going utterly viral. The team captioned the clip, "SINCE U BEEN GONE 'Mom please sto-' I CAN BREATHE FOR THE FIRST TIME," and yup, that really sums it up. So far, the original video has been viewed 810,000 times and garnered more than 7,000 "likes." BRB while I go cheer on Mandy with all the other moms who are collectively laughing their asses off.

Our Most Beloved Holiday Tradition Died With My Dad, but Its Impact Remains
Everything changed when my dad died. January will mark three years since the patriarch of our family and a well-respected and loved administrator in our community left us. He was always the life of the party. In fact, he was one hell of a party planner. So it's no surprise that he was the center of many traditions in our family, in his group of friends, and throughout our entire community.
I thought the first year without him would be the hardest - 365 days of painful firsts without the man who lay at the heart of who I am. The first week, the first month, the first Thanksgiving, the first family fight - I figured once I survived all of these challenging firsts, things would get easier as time went on. I was wrong.
I do my best to keep the memories of years past alive, but they've slowly faded with time. When I think of them now, it gets harder and harder to recall the details that I used to see so clearly.
When my dad left the physical world, he took a big part of me with him. Of course, I cherish the memories we made together, but the more time that passes, the more those memories move further and further into the past. That's part of what makes the holidays particularly rough without him. Many of the traditions started and carried on by my dad died with him.
As the holidays approach each year, I'm reminded not only of the man I miss, but of the beloved family traditions that were such a huge part of my upbringing. The pain is magnified by the sadness I feel for my son, who will only hear of the stories of these traditions and not experience them himself. Of course, we could try to do them with our son, but without my dad here, it will never be the same.
Our Christmas Eve tradition growing up was something out of a movie. Our family room was decked out in beautiful Christmas decorations. Our Christmas tree, which my father always chose and decorated so carefully, sat in the corner. Our house smelled of Christmas cookies. And the stereo system pumped the best Christmas songs throughout the house. I always fondly remember the smile on my dad's face as he charismatically worked the room during our annual Christmas Eve open house.
Year after year, our house was filled with people on Christmas Eve. Some came before the party started and stayed until cleanup, while others stopped in for a quick drink in between their own family gatherings. It didn't matter who you were, whether you knew him, met him in passing, or were a friend of a friend who never met him at all, my dad wanted everyone to have a place to go on Christmas Eve. As a child, I remember worrying about having all those people in our house. As the hours grew later and there was still a crowd, how would Santa know to come?! I envisioned him passing right over the top of our house. Looking back now, I can't help but laugh at those innocent childish thoughts and cry at the memory.
My husband and I took over hosting Christmas Eve, but it's nothing like the years when my father did it. I do my best to keep the memories of years past alive, but they've slowly faded with time. When I think of them now - the moments that always filled me with such warmth and love - it gets harder and harder to recall the details that I used to see so clearly: the smell of the house I grew up in, the sound of laughter that filled the room, the feeling of my dad's arms wrapped around me as he sat beaming with pride over another successful Christmas Eve in the books.
What I've learned in these last three years since he died is that it's incredibly hard and heartbreaking to let go of traditions you loved for so many years. Our Christmas Eve open houses were comforting, fun, and a huge part of my life. But even though the traditions are gone, the love he gave us will always stay. And that gift is one I could never forget.

4 Survival Tips For LGBTQ+ Folks Heading Home For the Holidays
Going home for the holidays and being with the family can be stressful for many people, but it can be even tougher for LGBTQIA+ folks. While you may be totally comfortable with who you are and have worked hard to be mature and have a sense of self-worth, dealing with certain family members may result in feelings of disappoint and rejection. Family members who have a lack of understanding or aren't accepting can be really difficult to handle, especially considering they are the people who are supposed to love you the most. Although tensions may be running high and there are certain conversations you may be dreading, these four tips can relieve you of some the stressful situations you find may yourself in.
1. Set Aside Time For Self-Care
This may sound obvious, but practicing self-care is one of the most important things you can do for yourself year round, and especially during the holidays. As LGBTQ+ poet and cultural icon Audre Lorde famously wrote, "Caring for myself is not self-indulgence; it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare." It can be as simple as reading a book, taking a walk, meditating, having a glass of wine, or just putting time aside for you to do things that make yourself feel good.
When you're home, this might be easiest thing to do, but one option could be to stay in your room a bit longer so you are able to have adequate space. You could also offer to run an errand so you can get some along time and even do something else for yourself while you are out so you can feel ready to face the world. During the holidays, it may be tough to get that "you time" in, but make it a point to give yourself the care you need.
While it may be important for your family to understand you, you do not have to defend your choices or who you are.
2. Set Personal Boundaries
Setting boundaries is a crucial aspect of healthy relationships with anyone. When it comes to your family, though, setting those boundaries can sometimes be more difficult. Because they are family, they may feel that you owe them or they are entitled to an explanation for where you are in life, the current relationship you are in, or about your sexual or gender identity. The fact of the matter is, you don't owe them that. While it may be important for your family to understand you, you do not have to defend your choices or who you are. If you find yourself getting into a stressful conversation over the holiday dinner table about a partner, your sexual or gender identity, or another topic you don't want to address, simply change the subject. If Aunt Helen starts to grill you about your sleeping arrangements with your significant other over the holidays, for example, commenting on how delicious the food is or bringing up a previous happy memory from another holiday will often be just enough of a shift to change the conversation and hopefully help you get your holiday back on track.
If you are still uncomfortable, it may be helpful to take that person aside later on when your guests have left and express how you feel. Using language like "I felt that when you brought up x it was inappropriate and made me feel uncomfortable" can help make the conversation go more smoothly; approaching the interaction calmly and respectfully can help illustrate the point and highlight the boundary you are trying to set.
3. Anticipate Some of the Touchy Topics That May Come Up
One part of making the trip home may be mentally preparing yourself for potentially awkward or upsetting conversations. If Uncle Bob is a conservative Republican who has posted on Facebook in support of Donald Trump's ban on transgender individuals in the military, anticipating some of the things that that may come up during your trip home for the holidays can help better prepare you to respond accordingly - or not at all. Trying to visualize some of the conversations that may take place and having an answer prepared or simply remembering to take deep breaths can help you to keep your cool. Although you may be all about engaging in discourse, you probably don't want to feel like you have to defend your identity, beliefs, and choices when you are simply trying to enjoy a piece of pumpkin pie. Preparing a simple statement that reinforces who you are and shuts down hateful rhetoric around major topics in the news or just planning to say "we can agree to disagree" can help get the dinner back on track and save your sanity.
4. Have Your Bestie on Speed Dial
Alternative kinship is deeply important in the LGBTQ+ community. While you can't pick your blood relatives, you can pick your friends and those whom you choose to call family as an adult. It's vital to feel heard, and during the holidays, it may be vital to have your best friend on speed dial. Make it a point to check in with them throughout the day and vice versa. Having a friend to vent to can help alleviate some of the stressful situations you may find yourself in, and it may help you work through them in another way.

Holiday travel is always crazy, but it's especially chaotic and stressful when you have kids. The traffic, the crowded airports, the rest-stops, the long lines, and did I mention the traffic? No matter how you get around during the holiday season, it's usually never entirely pleasant. When I was a kid, it was all about long road trips to visit family. And since I never enjoyed being in the car for long stretches of time, my mom came up with a genius idea to keep me entertained; every hour - if my brothers and I behaved - we would each get one mystery bag with some little activity inside that would hopefully keep us occupied until the next bag, and the next, until finally, we'd arrive at our destination. While I give my mom full credit on this one, I'm far too lazy to make individual bags for each of my kids for every hour we're in the car, so I came up with my own hack to keep them happy: road trip baskets.
The first time I used these [travel] baskets on a six-hour road trip with two kids, it was the easiest trip we'd ever taken.
My family and I mostly travel up and down the East Coast by car, but this one big travel hack could work for planes and trains as well. It keeps my kids occupied, keeps me from hearing the dreaded "Are we there yet?" question a thousand times, and ultimately keeps me sane on the usually dangerous roads full of other holiday travelers. Each child gets one basket, and inside are crafts, books, activities, and snacks to keep them busy for hours. I put them in an easy-to-reach spot and my kids can take out whatever they want whenever they want without having to ask me. The first time I used these baskets on a six-hour road trip with two kids, it was the easiest trip we'd ever taken. Since that trip, I've made countless baskets and am currently working on a few for the upcoming holidays.
I don't love giving my kids a ton of screen time, so plugging them in for a six-hour trip isn't very appealing to me. But there's a definite time and place for kids to lose themselves in a TV show or movie, and a long stretch of traveling is one of them. We use tablets as backups, but they aren't the main focus of the trip. I wait until the right time to pull movies out like when they're overtired or melting down in a traffic jam. But until that happens, their road trip baskets are the focus, and they really do love it.
The first thing I do to create these baskets is think about each child's current interests and what keeps them entertained. I pack some of their favorite books and toys, but also introduce new things to keep them intrigued. Once I've put together in my head what will excite them, I begin collecting things they might like. I shop on Amazon, hit the dollar bins at Target, and scour the Dollar Tree shelves for little trinkets, toys, puzzles, books, and games with not too many pieces that will get lost in car seats. Big hits have included dry erase boards (bonus if it's magnetic), mini action figures, interlocking blocks or beads, interactive books (electronic or pop-up/pull-out pages), magnetic tiles, water paint books, and road trip bingo boards.
We also head to the library before the trip and I let the kids pick out books on CD that they can play on the DVD player and follow along with. Another thing my oldest really enjoys is her very own road trip binder. For this, I bought a three-ring binder with sheet protectors and a few three-ring pencil cases which I loaded up with new crayons and markers. I filled the sheet protectors with pages I printed off the internet or tore from an age-appropriate workbook like mazes, I-Spy pictures, or connect-the-dot pages. Because they can be wiped off, the sheet protectors provide a place for the kids to do a page more than once or erase mistakes. Behind the sheet protector pages, I also put in some blank construction paper and another pencil case filled with stickers, stamps, and fun rolls of tape for them to create whatever they want.
When it comes to traveling with kids, snacks are key, and I always make sure to pack goodies in their baskets. I try to make it a mix of their go-to snacks and some things they aren't usually allowed to have. It's a balance of salty and sweet, so there's always something they're in the mood for and they can't tell me there's nothing they want (well, they could, but spicing up the snack department helps curb the hunger complaints).
The road trip baskets have been a traveling lifesaver for us, and they're so easy to recreate with your own unique spin. It could be a backpack full of things for a long flight or a bag for each child to rummage through on a long train ride. The possibilities are endless, and you can tailor everything to each child. It's also pretty fun keeping everything a surprise until the kids are packed up and ready for travel. If I'm ever worried they'll blow through everything quickly because they're so excited to see all the new things in the basket, I keep a few things in a bag in the front seat with me, because this mom has always got a few tricks up her sleeve.
