Sorry, Santa, but Disneyland's 2018 Holiday Treats Put Your Milk and Cookies to SHAME

Year after year, Disneyland ups its holiday treat game, and 2018's offerings are cuter and more tasty than ever. From boozy cookie shots at Disney's Grand Californian to sweet additions to the park's churro selection and savory delights at the Disney Festival of the Holidays at California Adventure, there's an edible indulgence for food fans of all kinds.

If you're wondering what to prioritize, we spoke with Nubia Renteria, pastry sous chef at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel, who shared some of her picks. Her favorite treat this year: the gingerbread funnel cake churro fries. "They're amazing," she told POPSUGAR. "They're hot, they're crispy, and what is there not to love about caramel sauce and hot funnel cake fries?" Agreed.

While we're suckers for all the sweet goodies, there are also some seriously delicious savory dishes at the holiday food festival at California Adventure. "I think the big one for me, especially being Hispanic, is this version of pozole that we have this year at Festival of the Holidays," Renteria said. "You're used to seeing pozole as a soup, in a broth with hominy, so what we did this year is it's a corn cake, and we topped it with a red chile rojo, a beef chili. It's really good; you have the same condiments as you would in a pozole, but it's just in a totally new, modern, different form." Salivating yet?

Keep reading to see Renteria's favorites, as well as more Disney delicacies we're drooling over this holiday season! And make sure you try them before the holiday season at Disneyland officially ends on Jan. 6 (the food festival lasts until Jan. 8).

Can You Eat the Pain Away? Here's What Happened When I Followed an Anti-Inflammatory Diet

Training for a marathon has a lot of caveats. The biggest one, of course, is that you actually have to run 26.2 miles in the end. But you have to do a lot of other things, too. You have to take care of your body and specifically make time for things like foam rolling. You also have to be mindful about what you eat. With the Boston Marathon on my bucket list, I knew it was time to get my mind and body right. Triggered by a little bit of pain in my lower back (screw you, arthritis) and my left hip (ugh, Spin classes), I wondered if there was anything I could do differently with my diet to better my situation. And that's when a friend of mine recommended eating an anti-inflammatory diet.

An anti-inflammatory diet, you say? I wondered, and then I did my research. Essentially, an anti-inflammatory diet consists of the same healthy, unprocessed foods a lot of popular diets recommend, plus being mega attentive to nutrition labels, trying to avoid added, unnecessary sugar. The goal is eliminating foods known to trigger inflammation in the body. Although eating anti-inflammatory foods is definitely trendy, like Bulletproof Coffee or the Paleo diet, research definitely reveals its total-body benefits. Studies show that unresolved inflammation has been linked to the early development of chronic disease.

"There are many foods that can help to combat inflammation in the body," says Alissa Rumsey, M.S., R.D., owner of Alissa Rumsey Nutrition and Wellness. "A diet that includes plenty of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, omega-3 fats, and antioxidants is your best defense against inflammation."

Building blocks. I could work with this, I thought. Rumsey gave me some more guidelines as to what specifically to hone in on, which seemed a lot like a Mediterranean diet. Think things like fatty fish, boatloads of fruits and vegetables, sweet potatoes, berries ("berries, especially, have been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties due to the high content of anthocyanin, a powerful phytonutrient"), and tomatoes - for their high concentration of lycopene, which reduces inflammation. Also: whole grains, olive oil, and foods with unsaturated fats, like avocado and seeds. On the "DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT" list: large amounts of refined sugar, highly processed foods (see ya later, Friday pizza nights), and too much alcohol.

My task: stick to this clean way of eating for a week to see if I felt any all-over body shifts. Here are four lessons I learned from my week of eating an anti-inflammatory diet.

1 Common Mistake People Make When Cutting Carbs That Can Cause Weight Gain

Are you trying to eat low-carb? Think all carbs are created equal? Nutrition coach Nikki (known as @justget.fit on Instagram), posted this comparison photo for those watching their carb intake in order to lose weight. Most people think of bread, pasta, rice, and cereal when they restrict carbs, but Nikki wants you to remember that fruits contain carbs, too.

These photos aren't meant to stop you from eating fruit! Rich in fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants, fruit should be eaten as part of a healthy diet, and they are definitely a healthier choice compared to overly processed bread! But these photos are meant to bring awareness that even healthy foods like fruit can contain high numbers of carbs, which if you eat in excess for your body can lead to weight gain.

In this example, a banana has twice the number of carbs as a slice of whole wheat bread. The banana is also higher in calories and sugar and lower in protein. Both of these offer different kinds of carbs - the fruit is simple carbs, and the whole wheat bread is complex - so they break down at different rates. Neither one is "better" than the other. "The point of this is that it is beneficial to know what's what ☝ so you can make informed choices based on your dietary preferences and goals."

This is just something to think about if you're tracking your macros or trying to cut down on carbs. Definitely don't ditch fruit altogether - we're not saying that! But if you eat a lot of fruit, and you're not losing weight, this could be the reason why.

If You Want to Shed Fat, Jillian Michaels Says This Is the Type of Cardio You Should Be Doing

Losing weight requires a lifestyle change: eating in a calorie deficit, working out, getting enough sleep, and managing stress. But if you're doing all that, you may be confused as to what type of workouts you should do to lose weight. Cardio is supposed to calories and help you lose weight, but strength training also burns calories and builds lean muscle.

If you're being strategic about your exercise plan for fat loss, trainer and fitness expert Jillian Michaels, who created the My Fitness by Jillian Michaels app, has some tips on how to rev up your calorie burn.

First, she recommends strength training four days a week (if possible) and to train each muscle group twice a week with two days of rest in between. "Lifting weights absolutely speeds fat loss because it burns more calories during and after your workout if done right," she told POPSUGAR.

When it comes to cardio, she's a big fan of high-intensity interval training or HIIT. "HIIT is far more effective across the board," she said. "It amps your calorie burn during the workout as well as your EPOC, or afterburn, and it accelerates how quickly you get more fit because of the intensified stress adaptation response."

However, she did say there are some times when low-intensity sustained state cardio, or LISS, is a better choice. "If you are tired, sick, or injured, HIIT can be too stressful," she said. "In that case, steady-state cardio will be better."

To lose weight, you can make your lifting sessions a HIIT workout to maximize calorie burn, or do a couple days of HIIT cardio a week to torch fat. Not sure where to start? Get inspired with these 10 HIIT workouts you can do at home or anywhere.

This Is How I Bullet Journal My Fitness and Nutrition Goals Every Day to Stay on Track

You have probably heard of a hundred different ways to track your fitness goals and progress electronically - OK, maybe not a hundred, but you know there are a lot of fitness apps, tracking bracelets, and even rings (like Prince Harry's Oura) that record your steps, weight, and sleep. I've tried a bunch of different tools myself, but sometimes you're just a pen-and-paper person, and a good bullet journal is what you need to stay consistent.

Bullet journaling has been a great asset to my fitness and nutrition goals. Not only does it allow me to be creative and offers a fun activity at the beginning and end of every day, it also gives me a wide visual representation of how I'm doing overall, in life, on my way to my target. It doesn't just include number metrics like weight or how many workouts I did in a week. It includes whatever else I want to focus on in my journey to better health, whether that's more self-awareness, more time meditating, or calories or water consumption.

A bullet journal can be overwhelming to start and requires some preparation, but I promise that after you draw out a plan (quite literally), you'll be happy you did it. This is how to get started.

18 Dance Workouts That Are So Fun, You'll Forget It's Exercise

Let's DANCE! These workouts make exercising more fun, less painful. You'll be sweating away to your very own dance party, whether you choose a 30-minute jam sesh or a three-minute quickie. And we're not talking about low-intensity workouts, guys - this is heart-pounding, calorie-torching cardio!

I'm a Trainer, and This Total-Body Workout Will Help You Build Muscle and Improve Endurance

As much as I like structure and having a plan when I go to the gym, sometimes I just freestyle my workout. That's exactly how this workout was born. I knew I wanted a strength element, but I didn't want to do typical lifts. Instead, I came up with three moves that would work my entire body and fatigue my muscles. The moves alone are simple, but the intensity and addition of minimal rest make this workout mentally and physically challenging.

How to Do the Three-Move Circuit

Before getting started, be sure to warm up. Here's the warmup I like to do: Take little to no rest between each exercise, and two to three minutes of rest between sets. Complete four sets; this can be modified if necessary.

Be sure to watch the video above to see how to perform each move.

8 Resolutions to Jump-Start 2019 and Keep You on Track For Better Health All Year

With a new year comes the opportunity for a fresh start, and the areas of exercise and wellness are no exception. Here are eight attainable fitness resolutions you can easily make time for, no matter what your lifestyle is currently like.

I'm a Dietitian, and This Is How I Avoid Gaining Weight at the Holidays

The holidays may be the most wonderful time of the year, but with your calendar double- and triple-booked with parties, booze flowing freely, and tempting treats at every turn, it's also the most challenging time to stay on track with your fitness goals. That's why most people gain one to two pounds over the last several weeks of the year. While that's not excessive, it's not a gift you can easily return with a sales receipt. Here's the good news: you don't have to forgo the festivities in order to avoid that holiday weight gain - instead, try these strategies that have always worked for me.

7 Questions to Ask Before Dropping Your Hard-Earned Cash on a Gym Membership

It's nearing the end of the year, and if you're already thinking about New Year's resolutions - which could include getting in shape - you might be wondering whether it's time to finally join a gym. It's one of the wisest investments you can make, but there's still a lot to consider before you decide on one, especially if you're committing to a routine for the first time. Finding the right gym or studio is essential - after all, you don't want to waste your time or money on a membership that doesn't meet your needs. To help you find your way, we asked Tim Blake, an NASM-certified trainer and founder of Super Fit Dads, what questions you should ask before signing on the dotted line.

I Tried to Quit My Smartphone Addiction and (Spoiler Alert) Failed Miserably

I need rehab. Actual, real-life, smartphone rehab. Listen, I knew I was addicted to my smartphone before I tried to go smartphone-free for one week, but I didn't know how addicted I was. Now that I know, I'm actually scared for myself and, dare I say, society as a whole.

Shortly after my daughter was born, I actually attempted this digital detox song and dance. Why? I caught myself checking my phone while I was driving my precious cargo in the car. I felt guilty whenever she saw me scrolling during playtime. I found myself taking drastic measures like actually hiding my phone just to stay in the present moment. I started to think that I had a real problem. Turns out that I do.

According to my phone's data, I spend an average of four hours and 23 minutes on my phone per day! It's clear that I need to get clean. So, I decided to take on the difficult, but not impossible, task of turning off all of my cellular data and WiFi dialing. I was determined to use my phone as 1998 intended - make calls, take calls, and maybe store a photo here and there. I want to be clear: this meant no music, no Google Maps, no email, no social media, no apps, nothing for one whole week!

Let me just tell you that this seemingly innocent experiment made with the intention of being more present in those picture-perfect moments (as opposed to ruining them by taking actual pictures) really opened my eyes to the severity of my smartphone addiction.

My name is Jen, and I am a smartphone addict. Here's my (attempted) recovery story.

The Bouquets Had Lightsaber Handles at This Star Wars Wedding - and the Bride Wore Black

If you want to bring the Force to your nuptials, look no further than Crystal and Jonathan's gorgeous Star Wars-themed wedding for inspiration. The two first met while they were students at Purdue University, which is why the campus holds a great deal of sentimental value to the pair. They fittingly decided to have their wedding at the Purdue Memorial Union and embellished the place with decor inspired by their favorite film franchise. "Their reception was Star Wars-themed and it was amazing! They made most of the decorations and each table's centerpiece was a different world from Star Wars. Crystal hand made all of the bouquets with origami flowers and lightsaber handles," said Jasmine Norris-Dixson, the woman behind the camera who captured the happy moments from the wedding. "Also, the Star Wars theme was a surprise for all their guests."

The pair had so many more layers of unique ideas catered to their love story. For instance, instead of a traditional layered cake, they opted for a delicious cookie cake with the phrase, "'Til the Death Star do we part" written in frosting on it. The newlyweds explained their decision, saying: "We got Insomnia Cookies instead of a big fancy cake. We wanted to capture our time at Purdue in the food and feel of the wedding, and Insomnia Cookies is a big part of that." There are so many more cute details to look out for, so keep reading!

How Disneyland Is Decorated "Overnight" and More Secrets From Disney's Holiday Decorator

Sorry, Buddy, but we've met someone who could dress up a location with even more festive flair than the syrup-obsessed elf in Gimbels. Meet Cathy Carson, an official Disneyland holiday park decorator and a part of a small but mighty crew worthy of Santa's workshop. For Cathy, every day is like Christmas, since she is dreaming up holiday decor ideas for the Anaheim, CA, park year-round. Yeah, we'd say that's a pretty cool job.

Cathy started working for Disney in 2003 as a temporary employee for Disneyland's holiday installation. She clearly had a knack for it, since she was asked back year after year, and now she's bringing the magic full-time. We had the chance to speak with her about her very merry career, what makes the holidays at Disneyland this year so special, and the behind-the-scenes secrets we've always wanted to know. Like, when do they start planning for 2019? And is year-round glitter on your face just a part of the job? (The answer to the latter is a resounding "yes.")

Keep reading for the answers to these burning questions as well as more photos of Disneyland's 2018 holiday decor.
