14 Moments That Made This a Truly Sensational and Game-Changing Year For Lady Gaga

2018 shall forever live on in my memory as the year Lady Gaga did that. Don't get me wrong, she's had plenty of incredible 12-month periods before this one, but the special thing about this year in particular is that she broke every Lady Gaga mold that had been previously made for her. This year, Gaga didn't even technically put out a studio album, but she basically wrote one for A Star Is Born. Oh, and then she absolutely broke us with her glorious, transcendent performance therein.

It's true that a lot of her year revolved around this one shining moment; so many of her glorious appearances and press moments came from that film. But in some strange way, the whole ordeal introduced us to a new side of the icon we've born witness to for the past decade. Allow me to break down what made 2018 so special to her . . . and to me, a very delirious fan who is, for lack of a more appropriate phrase, off the deep end.

7 Netflix Hacks You Won't Believe You've Survived This Long Without

Despite the fact that everyone uses it, Netflix is not exactly the most user-friendly. With thousands of movies and TV shows available, it makes sense that finding the perfect thing to watch can be pretty overwhelming (especially with all of those secret movie categories!). If you want to make the most of your monthly streaming experience, here are some tips to find the shows and movies you want without losing your patience (or your mind) in the process.

American Idol Winners: Where Are They Now?

In case you've forgotten, American Idol used to be wildly different from what it is now. Back in the first season on Fox in 2002, the show was hosted by Ryan Seacrest and Brian Dunkleman, and the judges were the brilliantly mean Simon Cowell, the always colorful Paula Abdul, and everyone's favorite dawg Randy Jackson. The first season also, quite surprisingly, produced one of the most successful winners to date: Kelly Clarkson. Idol was also my favorite show on television, but that is neither here nor there.

Over the years, the show has been canceled and rebooted on a new network and 15 more Idols have been crowned, some having far more success than others. The winners have gone on to release dozens of singles and albums, star in Broadway shows, write books, cross the country on tours, and take home a slew of awards. For a glimpse at what all the winners have been up to since their shows ended, keep reading.

These Pictures Will Help Explain How Princess Charlotte Became Our Favorite Royal This Year

Princess Charlotte has pretty much been a star since she entered the world in May 2015 - this is a fact. And even though she's had a plethora of adorable moments during her three short years on earth, 2018 was when Charlotte really hit her stride. The sweet and sassy toddler - who apparently is fluent in Spanish, loves to dance, and prefers the color pink - is already proving to be the fun-loving, independent, and slightly rebellious middle child that birth-order experts would predict she'd be; from hamming it up on her first day of school to sticking out her tongue at the royal wedding, Charlotte's antics are truly entertaining to watch. This year is proof that it's Charlotte's world, and we're all just living in it. Keep reading to see her cutest moments in 2018.

Relive 2018, Which Was Definitely the Year of Jeff Goldblum

I've had a crush on Jeff Goldblum since 1993, when the original Jurassic Park movie blew everyone's minds. Few of my fellow high school classmates shared my affinity for Jeff, who was hardly a teen heartthrob. But in recent years, Jeff Goldblum has experienced a renaissance, and I couldn't be happier. Turns out, there are legions of fans who've been fostering a decades-long crush on Jeff Goldblum, and the actor is embracing it. Jeff's daring fashion sense, unique vocal stylings, hypnotic hand gestures, and silver-fox status have made him a viral Internet phenomenon - particularly in 2018. Here's a look back at the year in Jeff Goldblum.

See All the Photos From Kim and Kanye's Epic Winter Wonderland Christmas Party!

When it comes to Christmas parties, few can top the Kardashian-Jenner family's. Every year, the brood pulls out all the stops for their Christmas Eve bash, and on Monday, Kim and Kanye West had the honor of hosting it at their Calabasas, CA, home. The bash brought out the family's nearest and dearest, including Kendall, Kourtney, Khloé, Kris, and Kylie and pals Paris Hilton, Jennifer Lopez, Alex Rodriguez, Kimora Lee Simmons, Chrissy Teigen, and John Legend, who performed songs from his Christmas album, A Legendary Christmas.

Kim and Kanye basically transformed their home into a Winter wonderland featuring artificial snow, an igloo, a sled setup, and tons of desserts. "The West residence party is a winter wonderland with a huge mountain," Kim said on Instagram. "It's literally Calabasas turned into Colorado."

That same day, the family debuted their annual Christmas card on Instagram. The sweet photo includes Kourtney, Khloé, Kim, and Kylie with their children and brother Rob's daughter, Dream. However, missing from the fun were Kendall, Kanye, Travis Scott, Tristan Thompson, Rob, and Kris Jenner. According to Kim, the entire photo shoot was "last minute" due to their busy schedules and they tried to include as many relatives as possible. Thankfully, they were able to make it work!

NSFW: 29 Kardashian-Jenner Photos So Sexy, Even an Ice Bath Won't Cool You Down

If you've been keeping up with the Kardashian-Jenner ladies on social media this year, chances are you've had to run to the kitchen to chug a glass of ice cold water more than a handful of times. Between Kim's sizzling selfies and Kourtney's countless bikini shots, it's hard not to break a sweat every time one of them posts something on social media. Still, Kim definitely took the cake this year, sharing not one but a whopping 22 NSFW snaps - and the year isn't even over yet! Ahead, see the Kardashian-Jenner clan's sexiest, NSFW photos of 2018.

The 10 Best Shows of 2018

Although it might have felt like the world was crumbling down around me this year, TV offered a respite from the madness in the form of fantastic storytelling, diverse casts, and, of course, the Bent Neck Lady. (Yes, I'm still having nightmares.) In a way, it felt like TV has never been better, despite the significant hole left by Game of Thrones. For that reason alone, it was incredibly difficult for me to narrow down the best of the best. Fortunately, like a person dead set on ignoring all of life's responsibilities to binge an entire season of peak TV in one weekend, I forged ahead.

Diane Kruger and Norman Reedus welcomed their first child together, a baby girl, in November, and now we're finally getting a first look at the tiny tot. On Christmas Eve, the 49-year-old Walking Dead actor shared a photo of his daughter's hand on Instagram, writing, "A lot to be thankful for this year. ❤️ this one especially." "She's very little, but I'm tired," the new mom said. "I feel like a superhero right now." The little one's name still has yet to be revealed.

From Royal Fiancée to Royal Favorite: Meghan Markle's Whirlwind 2018, in Pictures

Has anyone had a bigger year than Meghan Markle? OK, maybe Beyoncé. But still - Meghan has already had one hell of a whirlwind 2018. Not only did she officially become a member of the British royal family, but she's also embarked on her first royal tour and is expecting her first child with Prince Harry - oh, and she officially stole our hearts, too.

We've loved getting to see how Meghan has adapted to her new life as the Duchess of Sussex, whether she's mingling with her new relatives at high-profile events or visiting schoolchildren during official appearances. Her charitable spirit and feminist ideals are sure to add an exciting and fresh energy to the monarchy.

In 2018 alone, she's made her first official appearance with the royal family, gotten married, and even had a solo overnight outing with the queen! No Bad Blood! Kourtney Kardashian, Scott Disick, and Sofia Richie Vacation Together in Mexico

It looks like Kourtney Kardashian and Sofia Richie are getting along just fine! On Sunday, Kourtney, 39, and ex-boyfriend Scott Disick, 35, were spotted catching some rays in Mexico with their three children, Mason, 9, Penelope, 6, and Reign, 4. The brood was accompanied by Scott's 20-year-old girlfriend Sofia Richie, and the trio was photographed relaxing outside on lounge chairs while the kids played. Kourtney and Sofia both looked amazing, rocking a black bikini and an orange two-piece, respectively.

Kourtney, Scott, and Sofia have all been documenting their trip on Instagram. On Sunday, Scott posted a snap of the trio hanging out outside. "What more can a guy ask for. THREE'S COMPANY," he wrote. Meanwhile, Kourtney shared a sexy bikini shot, writing, "Almost spilled the tea."

Kourtney and Scott dated on and off from 2006 to 2017. Kourtney then moved on with Younes Bendjima and was last linked to Luka Sabbat. Scott, on the other hand, has been dating Sofia since 2017. Earlier this month, news broke that Sofia reportedly felt "uncomfortable" with Kourtney's Thanksgiving post about spending the holiday with Scott and their kids. But if these recent photos are any indication of where things stand now, they're clearly all getting the hang of this blended family thing - thankfully!

You'll Be Starry-Eyed Over This 1920s-Inspired Wedding - Complete With Showstopping Gown!

When Broadway actors Alysha and Cody decided to get married, they wanted their wedding to be out of this world - literally! That's right, this gorgeous couple decided to have a neon celestial-themed wedding that included a range of elements from the heavens. Alysha even wore a stunning gray gown with glittery embellishments that resembled the starry night sky. Here's what photographer David Perlman had to say about the inspiration behind the theme:

"Alysha and Cody's celestial wedding, full of moons and stars, was inspired by Alysha's dream dress by Hayley Paige. She knew she wanted a dove gray wedding dress, and she fell in love with her dress when she found it in a Google image search. After trying it on, she knew it was the one, and since it looked like a galaxy, she figured that was the theme for the wedding! She had always been obsessed with paper moons from the 1920s, so it was perfect."

Alysha even had a silver glitter eye and wore intricate star-shaped earrings to tie her galaxy-inspired look together. The decor included many neon signs, which added to the ambiance, and the pair had a large photo area that featured a giant crescent moon. They were married at the Green Building in Brooklyn, NY, and looked absolutely radiant.

Roses Are Red, Marriage Is Golden, but a Rose Gold-Themed Wedding Will Have Your Heart Stolen

Why stop at a rose gold ring when you can have a rose gold wedding? In this gorgeous wedding shoot, the color is not just an embellishment, but the core theme of the entire styled shoot. These stunning photos were the product of photographer Chloe Dam's creativity, who said, "This styled wedding was inspired by the 'it' color rose gold. In today's culture, rose gold is on everything from cell phones to watches. We wanted to make sure rose gold had its own lane in the wedding industry as well!"

This shoot took place at Station House in St Petersburg, FL, on a beautiful day where the natural lighting perfectly accentuated the rose and metallic tones of the decor. Some of the highlights from the shoot were the classic three-tired cake with a twist of modern geometric shapes, an elegantly crafted bouquet that featured an array of roses and peonies, the bride's lovely lace mermaid dress, and the splendid sequined table set-up. "The tablescape was so romantic and fresh," said Chloe. "I adored the special touches, like the pink macarons and the rose gold dinnerware. All of the colors paired perfectly together to create a glamorous fine dining experience." Make sure to check out the photos for more rose gold details!

This Video of a Kid Saying His Dad Makes a Living as a “Fart Machine” Will Inspire All Working Parents

For parents who work outside the home, saying goodbye to their kids in the morning is often the hardest part of their day, both for them and the kids, But according to a hilarious video that's making its rounds on social media again, one little boy has his farewell down pat. His secret? Calling his dad a fart machine, which he clearly thinks is his father's full-time job. We're impressed with how easily the dad just rolls with his son's accusation, but there's no denying the cuteness that ensues as he chases his father out the door. Fortunately, the sweet little boy promised his dad he'll also be a good fart machine for the day. It must run in the family, right?!

My Mother Was ALWAYS the Class Mom Growing Up, and I’ll Never Be Able to Thank Her Enough

Growing up, both of my parents had demanding jobs, though my mom took a few years off to raise the three of us kids before going back to work full-time. While I know that's certainly not doable for everyone - myself included! - having my mother step up to be the classroom mom every year was an especially rewarding experience.

Back in 1997, when big '90s hair was still in style, oversize sweaters were a must, and mom jeans were the only jeans, my mom - a small brunette woman - volunteered for every single school activity on the calendar at my Catholic elementary school.

One year, my mom showed up frazzled with a ton to get done for my classroom's craft Christmas fair. She ran around like a crazy person, scrambling to get all the crafts on the proper tables in preparation for the annual Christmas store. Even at age 5, I could tell she was stressed out by the responsibility. But I was proud to see her working so hard. It showed that she cared about all the students' experience, not just mine. I also felt so fortunate to spend a little more time with her than usual on those days.

I have a feeling sharing those memories with my little ones will be something I'll never forget.

And it wasn't just this singular event. She attended every Valentine's Day party with themed cupcakes in hand, read books to my class every time Sister Gerry invited her in for an hour, and even brought my beloved cat Prince Charming to show-and-tell one time.

Looking back, I truly have no idea how she gave so much time to regular school events. Although she didn't have a traditional office job, she still had to raise my two younger siblings during the day. Even after they were old enough for her to go back to work, she still managed to show up to my school activities fairly regularly!

In some schools the PTA - or in my mom's case, the group of class moms - can have the reputation of being a little cliquey. This was certainly true at my school. And while my mother has never been a person to shy away from confrontation, it never got in the way of her showing up for me.

Though I don't have children yet, I look to my mom as an example of what it means to do it all. Even if I won't be at every single class activity or field trip like my mom was, I'm going to shoot for as many as humanly possible. I have a feeling sharing those memories with my little ones will be something I'll never forget.

We're Spending New Year's Eve Without Our Kids, and We're So Freakin' Excited

In the four-and-a-half years since we became parents, my husband and I have only spent a small handful of nights away from our children, and never at the same time. My oldest daughter occasionally spends the night at my parents' house, but she's only up the road and we're still at home with our twins.

This December, my husband and I are celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary. As an anniversary gift, my parents will be taking our three girls for a couple of days so we can celebrate a decade of marital bliss while ringing in the New Year. And this will be the year of many firsts: the first time we've left all three kids, the first time we've ever gone out (or away for that matter) on New Year's Eve, and the first time we've been alone for more than just a few hours in a really long time. While some parents might shudder at the thought of leaving their kids on a special holiday, we couldn't be more excited.

Sorry, girls - we love you, but we'll see you next year!

I recently found a note in my phone from a few years ago. It's a list of destinations my husband and I thought we'd be able to pick from to visit when our 10th anniversary rolled around. Little did we know at the time that life had other plans. Last year, we purchased our forever home and welcomed our twins. Suffice it to say that things got a little crazy, so our dreams of an Alaskan cruise or a romantic getaway to Bora Bora had to be put on hold. We'll still be heading out of town, but the city in which we will be staying is considerably less exotic. I thought I'd be disappointed when we realized that our options were severely limited, but I quickly realized how long it's been since we've gone anywhere together sans kids. Now, I'm just happy to be getting away.

We didn't choose New Year's Eve for any reason other than that it's when my parents have a few consecutive days off from work. In fact, the thought of actually going anywhere on New Year's Eve kind of terrifies me. Large crowds make me squeamish, and I've just never been much of a party girl. For years, my husband and I have spent the night quietly at home with champagne, an array of snacks, and Syfy's annual Twilight Zone marathon. We're usually both asleep before the ball drops, and we're totally OK with that. We haven't yet decided what we'll do with our New Year's Eve date night this year, but if we spend it quietly in our hotel room catching up on some much needed and uninterrupted sleep, I won't be shocked or disappointed.

My husband and I love our kids more than anything, and I'm sure that we'll spend a considerable amount of time missing them while we're away. But we've also really missed each other, and surely a couple of days away together can give us a little opportunity to rejuvenate our relationship in a way that date nights just can't. That's why we had no second thoughts when the opportunity for a quick getaway presented itself, holiday or not. So, sorry, girls - we love you, but we'll see you next year!

2018's Top Dog Names Have 1 Clear Thing in Common: They're Very Human

Every year, it seems people get more and more creative with their pets' names. Or maybe it's just that they're looking toward their everyday lives for inspiration. In 2018, that seemed to be the case, with a vast majority of the most popular dog names being ones typically given to humans. Sparky, Spot, and Rover are so 2008.

In a list put together by Rover, all of this year's most popular dog names are names of people you might know, whether it's your neighbor, Charlie, or your former classmate, Lucy. Kate Jaffe, a dog-name curator for Rover, told NPR, "Increasingly, dogs are really the family you choose, and because we have this tight bond with our dogs and they really are a part of our family, it's not surprising to see that the majority of dogs names are human."

You can see the top 10 dog names of the year for both males and females below, and you can find a more extensive list of names and trends on Rover.

I Drink Around My Kids on New Year's Eve, Because Why Wouldn't I?

Ah, New Year's Eve. An occasion to get dressed up, go out to a glittering party with great food and even better company, and get really, really drunk. Until you become a parent that is. Once kids are in the mix, the last night of the year is usually spent on the sofa, in sweats, watching Ryan Seacrest, and hoping you can even make it to midnight.

Ten years ago, when our first daughter was born, I felt disappointed that my New Year's plans had become so lame. But now, I can't wait to cozy up with my four kids and my husband. Going out is the furthest thing on my mind, especially because we've found ways to make a family New Year's Eve superfun. And yes, that still includes drinking alcohol.

To be clear, my husband and I will sip Champagne or wine responsibly. Gone are the days when we did shots as the ball fell in Times Square. I'll likely enjoy a few glasses of wine or bubbly after the kids are tucked in around 9 p.m., then fall asleep at 10:30. I know all four are ready and raring to go by 7 a.m. whether it's a random Monday or New Year's Day, and mommying on no sleep and/or with a hangover is not happening. I never want to drink so much that I can't hear one of the kids calling for me in the night. Still, we don't totally refrain from alcohol, especially on a holiday, because why would we?

You might ask why my husband and I don't just go out and get a babysitter so we can let loose a bit more. The answer is because I still have to be mom the second I step in the front door of my house, so it's not like I can go crazy at a bar or at a friend's home either, unless the sitter is staying all night. And honestly, I trust myself to drink responsibly more than any babysitter. I can't know everything that person is doing while I'm not there. We do not live close to any family, so getting grandma to help out isn't an option.

In the end, I like being with my family on New Year's Eve, and I also like having a drink or two to celebrate. The kids get all excited, we decorate the house, make yummy treats, and cuddle. Mommy and daddy have a few adult drinks throughout the night, and that's about it. No, it isn't the most exciting night of our lives, but at this stage, I'll take our little party with just a glass or two of Champagne over the fanciest, open bar soirée out there.

This Common Disease Could Be the Reason You're So Anxious, and Treating It Can Help

Anxiety can be debilitating. After all, it's difficult to manage your day-to-day when you spend so much of your time (and energy) getting sucked into negative thoughts, spinning in a constant hamster wheel of worry. While many factors contribute to anxiety, your fretful state could be traced back to a thyroid disorder, particularly hyperthyroidism.

The Thyroid-Brain Connection

Hyperthyroidism occurs when the thyroid produces too much of the hormone thyroxine. Thyroxine works with other thyroid hormones to control a number of functions, including metabolism and digestion. When your thyroid is overactive, and releases too much thyroxine into the body, you might experience weight loss - even as your appetite increases - or feel hot and sweaty, among other physical symptoms.

But hyperthyroidism can also alter your brain and mood. "There are receptors for the thyroid hormone in the brain as well as the body," Monica Starkman, MD, associate professor of psychiatry at the University of Michigan Medical School, told POPSUGAR. "The effects on the brain due to excess thyroid hormones can be unusual and persistent nervousness, restlessness, irritability, and anxiety."

Hyperthyroidism is most often caused by an autoimmune disease called Grave's disease, but thyroiditis - a condition in which the thyroid becomes inflamed for no apparent reason - is common in women who have recently given birth. These women will often have tons of energy after delivering the baby, and may even be quick to lose weight because they're in a transient hyperthyroid state, explained Carly Snyder, MD, who specializes in reproductive psychiatry. But eventually, the thyroid burns out, leading to an underactive condition known as hypothyroidism. "Mood plummets, and the mother may be irritable and sad," Dr. Snyder said. "She may gain some weight back, and feel tired or foggy." Naturally, this means that women with postpartum thyroiditis are at an increased risk for postpartum depression.

While it's less common, hypothyroidism can also cause anxiety, especially among women. A study published in the Indian Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism found that, out of 100 patients who suffered from hypothyroidism, 70 percent of men reported experiencing depression, while more than 92 percent of women reported feeling anxious.

When to See the Doctor

If you suffer from anxiety or depression or both, it's important to pay attention to how your body is feeling separate from your mood. "If someone has the physical symptoms [of a thyroid disorder], as well as anxiety, that's a real clue the thyroid may be involved," Dr. Starkman said. "Even if not, some physicians and psychiatrists will want to do a blood test first with patients who have anxiety to see if the thyroid plays a part." If it does, it's important to treat the underlying problem.

Here's How Rapidly You Start to Lose Muscle Once You Stop Lifting Weights

My first gym session after a trip to Barcelona, where the only exercise I did was walking (and eating paella), was a struggle. The barbell I used to pick up with ease suddenly felt way heavier. (I actually triple checked to make sure I hadn't accidentally grabbed the wrong barbell - nope.) You may know the feeling. Returning to the gym after an extended break can be brutal.

"Unfortunately, exercise is truly 'use it or lose it.' If you stop strength training, you'll likely notice decreased strength (making it harder to perform daily activities), energy loss, impaired balance, and weight gain in as little as 3-4 weeks," Meghan Nagel, manager of fitness programming at Virtual Health Partners, told POPSUGAR. "Your muscles may also feel less firm and 'toned' when you stop lifting." (That sound you hear is me screaming "whyyyyy?" into the weight room abyss.)

To find out what happens to your body when you stop strength training, POPSUGAR spoke to Nagel and Dr. Jacqueline Schaffer, board-certified MD, bestselling author of Irresistible You, and founder of Schique Skincare. Here's what they had to say.

This 1 Popular Breakfast Could Be the Reason You're Not Losing Weight

Filling up on healthy foods is just part of the equation when it comes to losing weight. Portion size plays an even bigger role, and these photos prove why. Instagram user meowmeix posted these comparison photos to prove a point about how easy it is to double your calorie amount without even realizing it.

Scrambled eggs, avocado toast, and apple and peanut butter seems like the perfect healthy breakfast. You've got protein, healthy fats and carbs, plus fiber. The issue here lies in how much is on the plate. Here's the breakdown of each:

Lower cal meal:
2 eggs + 2 egg whites scrambled
1 piece Ezekiel toast
1/2 an avocado
1 honey crisp apple

Higher cal meal:
4 eggs + 2 egg whites scrambled
1 piece Ezekiel toast
1 whole avocado
1 honey crisp apple
2 tbsp peanut butter

This is just an example of how adding a few extra bites can really add up. If you're struggling to lose weight, look closely at your portions, and track your daily calories for a few days. It could be a very eye-opening experience if you notice that you're eating hundreds of extra calories than you should be eating each day. But then you'll know how to adjust your daily meals so you'll finally start seeing results!
