Why You Should Start Couple's Therapy Now Instead of Waiting For Problems

When my husband and I got engaged 10 years ago, we decided to get married in the church where both my grandparents and parents had exchanged vows (sweet, right?!). We were not expecting that super-traditional choice to lead us to an ultra-modern female pastor who was only slightly older than us and who agreed to marry us under one condition: we'd do some serious premarital counseling with her beforehand.

Having always been intrigued by the idea of therapy, I was totally game, and luckily my soon-to-be husband was, too. We spent six sessions discussing how we envisioned our lives together unfolding, including how we wanted to deal with finances, where we wanted to live, how many children we wanted to have, and what we wanted our careers to look like. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, proving to me that I was marrying the right person and that our communication skills - the glue I was sure would make our marriage last a lifetime - were solid.

We kept our heads down for so long, forging ahead, that when we finally looked up, we could hardly see each other.

And so, with our pastor/counselor's blessing, we got married in a blissful ceremony on a perfect day, both believing our relationship was bulletproof. And then, two weeks later, I got pregnant. Nine months and a few days after we exchanged vows, we welcomed our daughter to the world. Four months later, we moved from the large city where we met, had built careers, and had countless friendships to a suburb where we knew no one. Nine months after that, we moved again to another suburb, where we had to build another support system. I got pregnant again. I quit my job. My husband became the breadwinner while I became a stay-at-home mom. We had discussed all these things in our premarital counseling as possibilities - ones we'd said we would embrace fully - but living them? That was totally different.

Our relationship suffered while we did the exhausting work of raising two children while maintaining careers, a home, friendships, relationships with family members, and our own mental health. We kept our heads down for so long, forging ahead, that when we finally looked up, we could hardly see each other. There was a great divide between us; we'd dug it ourselves without realizing we were doing so.

And that's when we went back to therapy, almost too late, but thankfully, not. It wasn't as easy the second time around. We weren't just discussing hypothetical life plans with heart-shaped stars in our eyes. We had lived those plans and created a real, messy life together. Our understanding of each other and our limitations was clearer. We had resentments. We blamed each other for things, both unfairly and justly. We had, individually and despite still loving each other immensely, imagined whether life would be easier without our marriage. But, at the heart of it all, we wanted to find our way back to each other.

I truly don't think we would have been able to do so without our therapist. It was a lot of work, unpacking our top-line complaints ("she isn't affectionate enough," "he's irritable and short-tempered") and getting to the root of our problems, both as a couple and individually. Yes, we had to talk a lot about our childhoods and our relationships with our own parents. Truthfully, after starting counseling it got worse - much worse - before it got much, much better.

I have to wonder that, if we would have stuck to counseling throughout our marriage and not taken such a long break, if things would have gotten so dire. We still would have had problems, I'm sure, but facing them and dealing with them before they had time to grow and take root surely would have helped prevent them from getting so big that they threatened to destroy us.

And because I believe that so greatly, we've vowed to never take that long of a hiatus from therapy again. Even in the best of times, having a neutral, caring, insightful person to help you navigate current issues while warning you of potential ones is invaluable. A good therapist knows the human condition. They know the pitfalls that come with being a person who has decided to commit to another human being for life. And they can help guide a couple through those rocky waters, and maybe, just maybe, they won't be so rocky after all.

Reduce Your Anxiety in Just 1 Week With These Simple Practices

Living with anxiety can make even the most routine of weeks difficult to get through. And with all of the various anxiety-combating tips and practices out there, finding what works for you can be equally overwhelming! Instead of adopting an entirely new way of life all at once, I challenge you to set aside one week, focusing on one new anxiety-busting tool each day. When the week is over, do a mind and body scan. How are you feeling? Adopt the practices that worked for you and weave them into your weekly routine for a fuller, calmer lifestyle.

  • Sunday - Set your intention: Sundays signal the start of a fresh new week - so instead of worrying over the coming craziness of work or packing your schedule with to-dos, pause and set a purpose. Pick a resonating quote, verse, or piece of inspiration to focus on for the week, and come back to it when anxious thoughts start creeping in.
  • Monday - Prepare a healthy meal: The food you eat plays a critical role in how you feel from the inside out. Nourish your body with the mood-loving nutrients your brain is craving to quell anxiety. Healthy fats, omega-3s, and vitamins B12 and D are just a few key nutrients to keep your chill. Not sure where to start? Try one of these seven calming foods tonight.
  • Tuesday - Go to sleep early: There is nothing more important for your health than sleep. Solid shut-eye can aid in reducing anxiety, giving you clearer thinking and an improved mood. The benefits of a continued pattern of sweet slumber are countless - so make it a priority to wind down and give yourself the true rest you need. Trouble falling asleep? Forget counting sheep - develop your own peaceful bedtime routine instead.
  • Wednesday - Breathe deeply: Try a simple "box breathing" exercise to soothe your nervous system and keep you calm throughout the day. Breathe in fully and deeply for a count of four, letting your ribcage and belly expand. Hold your breath at the top for four, exhale fully for four, and wait one count of four before beginning again. Repeat at least five times. Set an alarm or reminder on your phone every hour to signal you to pause and refocus on your breath.
  • Thursday - Have a "you" night: Plan a date just for you. Turn off your phone, tuck away your laptop, and allow yourself time focus on some self-care. Treat yourself to a pedicure, finally finish that book lying on your nightstand, or light a candle, pour some wine, and have a good ol' bubble bath. Staying disconnected and screen-free offers you refuge and respite from the worries of your day so you can start fresh tomorrow.
  • Friday - Gather the gang: The week is over! Call up your pals for a night of fun. Whether it's an impromptu dinner party, laughing along with a funny movie, or hitting the town, being around your best buds is one surefire way to raise your spirits. But remember: if you plan on imbibing, limit yourself to one or two drinks over the course of the night. Even better - mix up a pitcher of mocktails. Alcohol is a depressant, which means it can worsen anxiety symptoms well into the next few days.
  • Saturday - Get outside: When it comes to releasing anxiety, there's nothing like spending time in nature. Change up your scenery and escape the noise for a while! Bring a picnic to the park, frolic in the snow, take a dip at the beach, or head out on a hike. Any activity that gets you out of the house and into fresh air will do - even if it's a simple stroll to your favorite coffee shop.

Hailey and Justin Spent Date Night in Hoodies, and We're Just So Into That

I couldn't possibly know much about what goes on between Hailey Baldwin and Justin Bieber. I do know that they're new dog parents, and they officially use the same last name on social media. But aside from that, I can only assume the obvious: that they totally share a closet full of hoodies. Hailey and Justin coordinate their street style arguably better than any other couple, and my favorite thing about them is that they always appear so casual and relaxed when they step outside for date night. LBDs and tuxedos be damned!

Hailey and Justin synced up yet again for an outing in Beverly Hills, Justin sporting one of his namesake sweatshirts from The House of Drew (a line that's yet to be launched) and Hailey in a Balenciaga logo throwover. While Justin kept it supercozy in Fear of God track pants, Hailey wore rolled skinny jeans, Jennifer Fisher hoops, and a Chanel purse, finishing off her outfit with some extra pizzazz. Keep reading to see yet another matchy moment from the duo, then shop hoodies that are similar to both Hailey's and Justin's, whether you prefer gold or gray.

Everything Parents Need to Know About Living and Last Wills and Why They're Important

No parent wants to pass on and leave a child behind. The mere thought of any terminal illness, sudden death, or fatal circumstance is heartbreaking for parents to imagine, let alone face as a reality - especially when your kids are still young. Still, these tragedies do happen. And no matter how uncomfortable it might be, it's important to have a plan for your health care, your children's future, and your family in the event something life-threatening happens. Fortunately, there's a way for parents to efficiently create a plan - in the form of a living will and a last will. We consulted Patra Sinner, attorney and board certified family law specialist at Sodoma Law, to fill parents in on what a living will and last will are, how to make create them, and why they're so important.

What's the Difference Between a Living Will and a Last Will?

Both a living will and last will are legal documents that guarantee a parent's wish and plan for themselves and their family in the event they must leave their spouse or children behind. "A living will is a legal document that expresses your wishes for medical treatment in the event you become terminal, or are in an unconscious state and unable to express those wishes at the time," Sinner explained to POPSUGAR. "A regular will primarily addresses the distribution of one's estate upon death and may be used to express wishes on certain matters, such as the desired guardian of children upon death." A living will deals with a parent's plan for their medical treatment when they can't speak for themselves, and a last will covers all the bases in regard to a parent's children, property, and assets once they're gone.

How Can Parents Make a Living Will and Last Will?

Creating a living will or last will requires a simple, multistep process, according to Sinner. After a parent figures out a game plan in regard to their wishes for both their living will and last will, they should contact a professional to get both started. "Speaking with an attorney who is knowledgeable about living wills in the parent's particular jurisdiction is the first recommended step," said Sinner. "Once the attorney has talked through various scenarios with the parent and has an understanding of their detailed wishes for treatment in the event of a terminal illness and/or becoming permanently unconscious, the attorney can create the parent's living will reflecting the same." Similarly, as far as last wills go, an attorney should be contacted as well - he or she can devise a last will legal document after confiding in a parent about what their plan is.

How Do Parents Benefit From Having a Living Will and Last Will?

Taking the time to speak with an attorney and construct a living will and a last will is very beneficial for parents. Having a last will is a concrete way for parents to control what happens to themselves, their children, their property, and their possessions once they've passed on. A living will has the advantage of a parent's peace of mind as well. "Even if there's been a discussion requiring a loved one to inform a medical professional to withhold or withdraw life-sustaining medical treatment, or there's no chance of improvement, it's often too difficult for a loved one to do on their own," continued Sinner. "The living will can prevent them from conveying that desire to medical professionals, because the living will does it for them and is an instrument that will speak for you as to those wishes."

At the event, Bradley was honored as director of the year for A Star Is Born, which he starred in alongside Lady Gaga. Why You Should Think Twice Before Putting Nail Polish on Your Toddler

I'm the guiltiest offender when it comes to quickly scanning labels instead of actually reading them. But when I became a mom, I made a huge effort to start paying more attention to the ingredients in the food and products I was buying for my daughter. But one thing I never really thought twice about was nail polish . . . that is, until my own mother recently questioned my decision to put a sparkly pink color on my toddler.

To be honest, I never thought nail polish could be harmful, but the more I looked into it, the more I began to worry whether or not bonding over nail polish with my 2-year-old might be putting her in harm's way. What if my daughter sucks her thumb while wearing nail polish? What happens then? POPSUGAR spoke with Dr. Katherine Williamson, a pediatrician at the Children's Hospital of Orange County, who shared things parents should consider before putting a fresh coat of paint on your little one's nails.

"Nail polish generally contains toxic chemicals which could be dangerous, because little ones often put their fingers in their mouths," Dr. Williamson told POPSUGAR. "According to the Food and Drug Administration, nail polish commonly contains phthalates, toluene, and formaldehydee. These chemicals can be listed by different names, and have been linked to skin irritations and allergic reactions, in addition to a variety of other health problems."

While these chemicals can potentially be harmful to a toddler's skin or lungs if ingested, Dr. Williamson explained that there isn't enough information to completely rule out nail polish for toddlers. "More research is needed to definitively say whether nail polish intended for adults is safe for kids," she continued.

But for parents who don't want to miss out on mani-pedi dates with their little one, don't panic. Dr. Williamson suggested opting for safe, kid-friendly nail polish brands instead. "Look for water-based nail polishes and removers that are free of chemicals," she said. That way, you don't have to worry about any additives or chemicals, and your toddler can still look darn cute rocking a new manicure.

Luna and Miles Look SO Grown Up on Vacay With Chrissy Teigen and John Legend - See the Pics!

John Legend and Chrissy Teigen are kicking off 2019 in the best way possible: with a family vacation! Just a few days after Chrissy co-hosted NBC's New Year's Eve broadcast in Times Square, the cookbook author packed her bags for a getaway with her husband and two kids, 2-year-old Luna and 7-month-old Miles. The family of four are soaking up the sun in an undisclosed tropical locale filled with crystal-clear waters and postcard-worthy palm trees, and it's safe to say their pictures are giving us major FOMO.

Speaking of their photos, Chrissy and John have shared a handful of snaps from their sunny adventures, and we can't help but notice just how grown-up Luna and Miles are. Miles looks more like his dad's twin than ever before, and Luna may as well be a pre-teen because she looks so darn mature.

This isn't the first time the foursome has embarked on a family trip together, as they vacationed in Bali during the Summer of 2018. Keep reading to see all the fun footage from the photogenic clan's latest getaway.

After 12 Pregnancy Attempts, 6 Egg Donors, 5 Surrogates, 2 Doctors, and 1 Miscarriage, This Trainer Has a Family

For Insanity founder Shaun T and his partner Scott Blokker, the road to fatherhood wasn't easy. Over a six-year period, the pair went through 12 pregnancy attempts, six egg donors, five surrogates, two doctors, and one miscarriage before they welcomed their twin sons Silas Rhys and Sander Vaughn in November 2017. The pair sat down with Parents to speak about their experience as dads so far and their eye-opening experience in getting there.

"We went through all the things that couples struggling with fertility go through: tests, doubt, grief, not knowing, waiting," explained Scott. Though the boys share the same egg donor, Sander is from Shaun's sperm and Silas is from Scott's sperm.

Shaun and Scott's surrogate delivered the boys two minutes apart when they were 32 weeks, and they required a three-week stay in the NICU. "On their last night there, we had no monitors, no nurses, just us. I remember thinking, 'This will be a piece of cake,'" Shaun said. Unfortunately, the first few weeks of parenthood were, in fact, the opposite of a piece of cake.

"I was so wrong. They cried nonstop! . . . It was terrible," Shaun said jokingly. "We got into more fights than we'd ever had in our entire relationship." Scott added that he "even questioned whether we'd ruined our marriage by having kids, but it wasn't the kids. It was the not sleeping! No more than two hours of sleep at a time for weeks in a row is killer."

"Scott's dad told me, 'You're not coming into the babies' world. They're coming into yours,' and that made me eager to show them the life we live."

And when you have two babies - especially one who won't eat - the nights seem even longer. "We felt bad, but at 3 a.m. it was, 'Okay, who wants Sander?'" explained Shaun.

However, after parenting two little ones for more than a year and getting into a good groove, Shaun and Scott shared some go-to words they live by.

"I've received two great pieces of advice," said Shaun. "Scott's dad told me, 'You're not coming into the babies' world. They're coming into yours,' and that made me eager to show them the life we live. The second was from my grandfather, who was married to my grandmother for 56 years. He said, 'Never go to bed angry,' and we don't. The connectedness you feel at the end of the day is the driving force for how you wake up the next day, so every night we fall asleep holding hands."

As for whether or not more kiddos are in the cards for these dads, the option isn't off the table. "Man, once you have two, it's cool," said Shaun. "I think we could do this again."

Proof That Julia Roberts Has Looked Downright Sexy in a Pantsuit Since 1990

Julia Roberts started her red carpet reign in the early '90s, when she famously wore a gray suit and purple tie to the Golden Globes. Ever since then, she's been a mainstay and one of the only stars who can slip seamlessly from a glamorous, body-conscious gown to a tuxedo in the blink of an eye.

These days, Julia works with stylist Elizabeth Stewart on her supremely tailored looks, including the lilac Givenchy ensemble they famously matched in. The retrospective we put together ahead proves that there's no telling whether Julia will opt for something feminine, borrow from the boys, or take a bit of a fashion risk that makes headlines (remember when she shed her shoes at Cannes?). Thank you, Julia, for always keeping us on our toes.

Rob Delaney Has "Mixed Feelings" About Welcoming a New Baby 7 Months After His Son Died

Rob Delaney and his wife, Leah, have had an emotional year. Just seven months after losing their 2-and-a-half-year son, Henry, to brain cancer, the pair welcomed their fourth son into the world this past August. In a new interview with The Sunday Times Magazine, the Catastrophe star said that the birth was bittersweet.

"We likely would've had a fourth anyway," he said of their decision to expand their family while Henry was still fighting cancer. "But I mean, there's mixed feelings. It's sort of like [Henry and the new baby] touch each other a little bit, but they almost exist in separate lanes."

Although Rob is eager to make new memories with his youngest child, it doesn't erase the pain of Henry's death.

"Having another child in no way, shape, or form eases the grief of Henry dying. But also having Henry dying doesn't make our new son any less magical," he said. "I want to gobble him up and he deserves our full attention and love, and he grew in the same womb as Henry."

On Dec. 26, the father of four gave an update on how his first Christmas went without Henry via Twitter. "Our first Christmas without Henry came and went," he wrote. "The day itself was okay, maybe because there were so many horrible, painful days leading up to it; we must have hit our quota or something."

He added in a follow-up tweet that: "I speak publicly about Henry in an effort to destigmatize grief," he explained. "My family is sad and in pain because our beautiful 2-year-old boy died after a long illness. Why wouldn't we be sad? Why wouldn't we be angry and confused?"

Yes, You Can Lose Up to 15 Pounds in 2 Months (and Keep It Off) - Here's How

When people are looking to lose weight, they typically want whatever will get them results as fast as possible. In reality, there is no such thing as a quick fix for weight loss. Juice cleanses, strict low-calorie diets, and "detoxes" deliver more hype than actual results. Sure, the scale may go down as you lose water weight, but it will just come back up (and then some) once you eat full meals again.

If you're looking to really lose weight - as in: lose fat, change your measurements, and go down a dress size - then you need to be strategic to get results. You can definitely lose weight and see results within two months as long as you follow these steps. We spoke to registered dietitian and personal trainer Jim White, RDN, ACSM, owner of Jim White Fitness and Nutrition Studios, who outlined these six ways to lose weight and see results within just eight weeks. And not just that, but keep it off for good.

The time will pass whether you make a change or not. So you might as well take the necessary steps towards your goal and really see results!

There Wasn’t a Dry Eye in the Room When This Man Gave His Wife of 67 Years New Wedding Rings

Be still, my usually cold and cynical heart.

An Illinois man brought tears to an entire room - and subsequently the entire internet - when he planned the sweetest surprise for his wife of 67 years. Diane Hawkins says her mom recently suffered an injury to her left hand, which caused swelling and meant she needed to temporarily remove her wedding rings. Unfortunately, in the time that they were off her hand, they went missing in the nursing home she and her husband both reside at.

However, Diane says, "That didn't stop the love this couple has shared for 67 years." Diane's dad asked her to take him shopping ahead of Christmas and the couple's 67th wedding anniversary, and bought his wife a brand-new engagement ring and wedding band set. Diane then recorded her dad giving her mom the gift, and to say she was surprised is a grand understatement.

"The video shows Dad giving Mom her new engagement and wedding band," Diane wrote on YouTube. "There wasn't a dry eye in the room. . . Priceless!"

Backstreet Boys' "No Place" Video Starring Their Families Will Completely Melt Your Heart

Backstreet Boys really know how to pull at our heartstrings. After releasing their love ballad "Chances" in November, the band is back with yet another song from their upcoming album DNA. In the track "No Place," the men sing about how traveling all around the world doesn't compare to being home with their families. As if the lyrics weren't sweet enough, the music video is filled with heartwarming clips of AJ McLean, Howie Dorough, Nick Carter, Kevin Richardson, and Brian Littrell spending time with their wives and kids. Jennifer Aniston Just Wore the 2019 Version of Your Favorite '90s Boots

We can always count on Rachel Green - er, I mean Jennifer Aniston - to bring our favorite '90s fashion staples back into the spotlight, and she did just that while arriving to Jimmy Kimmel Live. The actress strolled up to the studio in LA wearing a pair of dark maroon combat boots that instantly reminded us of the good ol' days spent in flannel shirts and band tees.

Her shoes laced up the front and had chunky soles reminiscent of Dr. Martens, but they also featured ribbed panels on the sides for a modern flair. They're certainly a far cry from her usual strappy heels and comfy sneakers, which is exactly why we're so in love with 'em.

The Dumplin' actress went the monochromatic route with the rest of her outfit, simply pairing her cool-girl boots with a plain black top, leather pants, long coat, and crossbody bag. Keep reading to see Jennifer's rainy-day-approved look and shop similar '90s-inspired boots for yourself.

Chris Harrison Makes Serious Dough From The Bachelor Every Year

The man behind The Bachelor franchise (and no, we're not talking about Colton Underwood or any of the other bachelors) has been on every single episode since 2002. Chris Harrison has never failed to drop off a date card or let us know when it will be the most dramatic season ever. And you would think that someone with that kind of tenure would make a pretty legit paycheck - and you would be right, but his exact net worth isn't clear.

Forbes reported on the world's highest-paid TV hosts in November 2017. Phil McGraw (aka Dr. Phil) tops the chart with $79 million. He's followed by Ellen DeGeneres at $77 million and Ryan Seacrest at $58 million. So where does Harrison fall? Well, he didn't make the list. It only covered hosts who made at least $15 million during a calendar year.

Various news outlets have pointed to a 2011 TV Guide article saying that Harrison makes $60,000 per episode. However, that article has gone MIA. Typically there are 10 episodes of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette (sometimes just nine for the latter), as well as "The Women (or Men) Tell All", finale, and "After the Finale Rose" episodes. One season of each show every year, so if that number is true, that's an estimated $1,560,000 in a year. We wouldn't be surprised if that number shot up with the success of the shows!

But the franchise doesn't stop there. Harrison also has a few seasons of Bachelor in Paradise and Bachelor Pad under his belt. And The Bachelor Winter Games kicked off in February 2018. Yep, he's a busy guy!

Don't forget that helping 20- and 30-somethings find love isn't Harrison's only dig. He added host of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? to his resume in 2015 and has been the host of Miss America nine times. And we can only assume that those come with a nice salary, aside from the dapper suits.

Now that we have somewhat of an idea of Harrison's bank account, we can't help wondering . . . who picks up the bill when TV hosts go out together? Does Phil Keoghan from The Amazing Race pay for dinner, or do they expect Jeff Probst from Survivor to? What about Tom Bergeron from Dancing with the Stars? But that's a conversation for another article. . .

I Made My Bed Every Day For a Month to See If the Hype Was Legit

About a year ago, one of my favorite trainers was gushing about a book called Make Your Bed: Little Things That Can Change Your Life (And Maybe the World). She went on and on about (as Marie Kondo would put it) "the life changing magic" of making your bed.

A few months later, I heard another friend talk about how making their bed was the most fundamental part of their self-care routine. "The f*ck?" I exasperatedly wondered to myself. "That sounds absurd." I don't know what about it aggravated me in particular, but I wasn't buying it.

Yes, I get that clutter and mess impact your energy. I also know that a clean and tidy space reduces my stress levels. But the claims around simply making your bed seemed preposterous.

It wasn't until I read The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg that I decided to be more diligent about the arrangement of my sheets and pillows. For the record: my bed was probably loosely made 60 to 70 percent of the time, properly made 15 percent of the time, and a back-up hamper/laundry bin the other 15 percent of the time. So I had a decently made bed for the majority, but I wasn't on my A game day in and day out. Lots of room for improvement.

I figured maybe it was time to at least try to be more consistent. Perhaps I really could channel my own Marie Kondo and make my room look like a subtly tropical, millennial pink CB2 catalog.

Let's just start with the admission: I was a hater, and I was wrong. There is something oddly powerful and transformative about this tiny, organizational tweak, and at last I see the light. Here's what happened when I decided to take the leap of faith and put in even the most bare minimum of effort.

These Power Moves Can Help You Shed Pounds Faster Simply by Walking

If you think the only way to lose weight is to spend hours in the gym every day, think again. Being physically active allows your body to burn more calories (both during exercise and at rest), while also protecting you against conditions like heart disease and diabetes. This includes walking, which experts agree can help you lose weight and even burn dangerous belly fat. A study in Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise found that walking reduced rates of chronic disease and had the largest impact on public health because it's so accessible. Still, you'll need to pay attention to your stride to actively lose weight. Here, Brian Ferrari, a certified personal trainer and master coach at Gold's Gym outside of Austin, TX, tells POPSUGAR how to maximize your walking workout and shed some pounds in the process.

Burn Calories and Increase Your Endurance With This 20-Minute Treadmill Walking Workout

If you think you need to sign up for pricey boutique fitness classes or do sprints on the treadmill to get in shape and lose weight, we have some good news. You can burn calories, slim down, and improve your endurance simply from walking. Don't believe us? Just check out the stories of Kim, who lost 100 pounds simply from walking, or Natalie, who lost 75 pounds by going for walks in the evening.

If you're a true beginner, lacing up your walking shoes is the first step (pun intended). The second step is hopping on a treadmill and getting to work. Try this treadmill walking workout created by Alexis Craig, an NASM-certified personal trainer and a coach at the live fitness app Gixo (which includes a variety of walking classes). This 20-minute cardio session is based off how intense the workout feels to you on the Rate of Perceived Exertion (RPE) scale, from one to 10 - 10 being your absolute pick-me-up-off-the-floor max. Although there are ranges for speed and incline provided below, it's best to pay attention to how each interval feels for your body.

As you continue to walk and improve your strength and endurance, you can increase both your speed and your incline so it still feels like a challenge. "This walking workout involves skill building the walking gait and adds intensity to one variable at a time before the peak of the workout," Alexis said. "It also includes a warmup and cooldown so that you can make the most of your walking workout with a lower risk of injury."

To get in a good walking workout, Alexis said it's also important to focus on form. She said to land on the balls of your feet with each step, pushing off the back foot. "This seems very weird to a lot of people because they are used to walking with a heel strike," she told POPSUGAR. "Heel striking leads to hyperextension of the knee and can cause a chain reaction to all kinds of injuries, so really try to lift up your front knee and land on the ball of your foot as much as you can, using your arms and breathing in cadence with your steps."

Looking for a new walking workout? Save this one and take it with you to the gym.

How Many Hours of Sleep You Need Based on Your Zodiac Sign

You may be a night owl or an early riser, but turns out, the stars might have some say in what sleeping patterns you exhibit. And no matter if you're fighting your sign's natural tendencies or not, there might just be a certain number of hours of nightly shut-eye that can keep your body balanced and well, based on the zodiac. (And, get this: the way you meditate for balance is also influenced by your zodiac sign.)

Of course, you're better off listening to your body and the stars here - even if that means hitting the hay earlier than you'd like in order to secure those extra minutes - as you might find yourself getting more sick, tired, or hostile if you're skimping on those zzz's. (And those around you will probably urge you to get some rest, as well.)

Goods news - we found out how many hours you need each night based on your sign in order to avoid being that angry, bitter customer waiting in line at Starbucks on your morning commute. Here, astrologer Joshua MacGuire shares his tips. It's pretty important to follow, as lack of sleep can damage your health long-term.

Or you might finally get up the courage to join that CrossFit box you've been thinking about. Who knows what a few minutes of fitness will inspire?

While doing a bunch of burpees and deadlifts each day won't be life-changing or give your body composition a complete overhaul within a month, moving a little bit each day will shift your mindset. You will be reminded that you have this beautiful, capable body, and the best way to show how grateful you are for it is to use it! As you get stronger and come to love how energized and excited working out makes you feel, you'll be inspired to do more to care for your health, both physically and mentally. Let's do this!

Why This Controversial Organizing Method Is Exactly What You Need

Letting go of clutter is hard to do. Anyone who has encountered the teachings of Japanese cleaning guru Marie Kondo knows that minimalism is currently all the rage; her housekeeping manual, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, has inspired legions of readers to throw away their unneeded belongings. And now her Netflix series, Tidying Up, is ushering in a new wave of devotees. We love all things related to organization and have to admit to clearing out our drawers and closets in a fit of aspirational tidying ourselves.

Not everyone, though, is on board with KonMari, the nickname Kondo gave her techniques. As with any good trend, there's a corresponding backlash. A writer for The New York Times extolled the virtues of living a life surrounded by things in an article called "Let's Celebrate the Art of Clutter." Plus, her stance on ridding your home of books that don't "spark joy" has had book-lovers up in arms.

Whether you're pro- or anticlutter, you must admit there's a certain calmness to be found in a well-organized drawer. Read through to see aspirational examples of Marie's method at work, and see if you aren't a little inspired to take a turn at organizing your own home.
