Watching Lady Gaga Praise Bradley Cooper For Believing in Her Will Turn You Into a Wreck
Lady Gaga may have won the award for best actress for her role in A Star Is Born at Tuesday's National Board of Review Gala, but it's her moving acceptance speech that has us sobbing. After being introduced by Stephen Colbert, Gaga took the stage and opened up about the real-life pain she had to tap into for the role of waitress-turned-singer Ally Maine. "Ally was all the things I was not when I went out into the world to pursue my dreams," Gaga said. "I had to reflect on an earlier time in my life, in high school and earlier when I was bullied . . . I was traumatized by people telling me over and over again that I wasn't and couldn't become who I dreamed of becoming."
However, thanks to Bradley Cooper (who took home the award for best director), Gaga was able to overcome "the trauma of [her] childhood" and manifest Ally. "I would not be standing up here without you," Gaga explained. "Thank you for believing in me and being the costar, visionary, and friend. You made me a way better actress." Gaga also gave fiancé Christian Carino a sweet shout-out, thanking him for "loving and taking care of my heart every day."
Gaga concluded her speech by praising her Italian immigrant family including her mom, Cynthia Germanotta, who was her date to the fete. "I have always made art not just for myself, but to make my family proud," she said. "I did this one Germanotta-style." Watch Gaga's emotional speech in full above, but make sure you have some tissues nearby before you do.
Bradley Cooper and Irina Shayk Look Like a Modern-Day Bonnie and Clyde at the NBR Gala
Bradley Cooper might be enjoying all the award season buzz for his latest film, A Star Is Born, but judging by the Critics' Choice nominee's latest outing, he should consider starring in a remake of Bonnie and Clyde opposite his real-life partner, Irina Shayk.
The parents to 1-year-old daughter Lea, who have been dating since 2015, followed up their downright stunning appearance at the Golden Globes on Sunday with a chic outing in coordinating patterned ensembles at the 2019 National Board of Review awards gala in New York City. The 44-year-old actor was being honored as best director of the year at the event and received his trophy from icon Steven Spielberg. The NBR gala was also attended by Bradley's A Star Is Born costars Lady Gaga, who was honored with the best actress award, and Sam Elliott, who took home the best supporting actor trophy.
"Bradley, I would not be standing up here without you," Gaga told her costar and director during her speech. "Thank you so much for entrusting me to be the first leading actress in your directorial debut."
Check out all the photos from Bradley and Irina's stylish night out together, ahead.
20 Years Later, Look Back at Britney Spears's First Year as a Pop Icon
You never forget where you were during a truly historic moment, so yes, of course I remember what I was doing the first time I heard ". . . Baby One More Time." At age 11, my hair likely pulled back with butterfly clips, I was in a hotel room with my mom listening to Radio Disney as we got ready for dinner. The song played, I flipped out, and I insisted we change our plans and order room service so we could stay in the room, keep listening to the radio, and hear it again.
". . . Baby One More Time" came out in late 1998, and the following January, Britney released her album of the same name. That's right, ladies and gentlemen, it's been 20 years since Britney Jean Spears dropped the . . . Baby One More Time album and seemingly became a pop icon overnight. That year, she was everywhere: award shows, Disney concerts, TV specials, you name it. We belted her songs, learned her choreography, and obsessed over the rumor that she might be dating *NSYNC's Justin Timberlake, which - #neverforget - was confirmed the following year.
In 1999, Britney's first album hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200. It's the year she kicked off her first tour, and the year of that Rolling Stone cover. It's the year the "Sometimes" video made turtleneck crop tops happen and the year "(You Drive Me) Crazy" blessed us with an iconic music video to go along with a teen movie starring Melissa Joan Hart. In other words, 1999 was a BIG year for Britney, so two decades later, let's relive some of the highlights with a whole bunch of nostalgic photos that will take you right back to Britney's beginnings.
Andy Samberg Had the Most Adorable Reaction When Sandra Oh Won a Golden Globe
With the exception of her parents, perhaps no one was as excited about Sandra Oh's Golden Globe win than her cohost, Andy Samberg.
The dynamic duo had the audience laughing from start to finish on Sunday night during the glitzy award show, in which the Grey's Anatomy alum was competing in the best actress category for her impressive work in BBC America drama Killing Eve. In between cracking jokes and making a passionate speech about representation in Hollywood, however, Sandra got to step out onstage and accept a trophy for her role, which she did by profusely thanking her parents and speaking in Korean.
"Sandra Oh is the best person on earth," the 40-year-old actor said while sitting down with Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday night. "We met briefly, we presented at the Emmys, and then we spent the last week and a half working on the Globes, but we didn't know each other that much. But we just sort of liked each other so much from that one experience we decided to go for it because they asked."
Like most other people in the room, Andy found himself moved when his cohost, 47, won for her performance in Killing Eve. "She's so warm and magnetic, and I fell so into her energy that we were all backstage when she won," he recalled. "They were like, 'Sandra Oh,' and I was like, 'Yeah!' I started crying. I said, 'She's been working on this for the last four days I've known her!' I gave her boyfriend a big hug and was like, 'We did it!'"
Well, that settles it: Sandra Oh and Andy Samberg are the freakin' best.
Carey Hart's Anniversary Message For Pink Is So Sweet, He Should Write Hallmark Cards
Pink and Carey Hart are celebrating 13 years of wedded bliss! On Tuesday, the 43-year-old motocross athlete honored his wife with a heartfelt tribute on Instagram. Along with a selfie of the two smiling, Carey expressed how grateful he is for Pink and the "amazing life and family" they've created together. "Who would have thought two misfits like us could pull it off!!!" Carey wrote. "I love you."
Pink and Carey tied the knot in a beach ceremony in Costa Rica back in 2006 after the singer flipped the script and popped the question to him during his race at the Pro 250 class finals the year prior. Even though their relationship hasn't always been the smoothest, they've managed to make it work and have two beautiful children together, 7-year-old daughter Willow and 2-year-old son Jameson.

Fun fact: Pink didn't wear a wedding dress at their nuptials. Instead, she selected an ivory Monique Lhuillier top and skirt, which she accessorized with a black sash around her waist. "I wanted to make Carey's heart stop for a second," Pink previously said. We're wishing Pink and Carey a very happy anniversary!
Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra Take Their Newlywed Bliss to the Caribbean
After a month full of wedding celebrations, Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra have officially begun their honeymoon. On Sunday, the newlyweds touched down in the Caribbean following their family vacation in the Swiss Alps. The pair looked ready for some romantic R&R as they held hands while stepping off of their flight. Priyanka donned a pale blue dress, while Nick kept things casual in a gray long-sleeved tee. On Tuesday, Priyanka shared a photo of herself relaxing on the beach on her Instagram Stories, and we wish we were doing the same. Two days later, Nick gave us a closer peek at their honeymoon, posting a video of Priyanka on a swing.
Nick and Priyanka's relationship initially started off as a friendship, but things turned romantic when they started dating in May 2018. Nick popped the question to Priyanka during her 36th birthday celebration in July 2018, and five months later, they tied the knot in a series of ceremonies in India. Yep, Mr. and Mrs. Jonas are living the good life!
Dev Patel and Armie Hammer Bring a Terrifying True Story to Life in the Hotel Mumbai Trailer
The terrifying true story of the 2008 siege on Mumbai's Taj Hotel has gotten the movie treatment, but fortunately, the film has the perfect cast to bring such a gripping tale to the big screen.
Hotel Mumbai stars Lion's Dev Patel as Arjun, a waiter working in Mumbai's prestigious Taj Hotel, who finds himself banding together with staff members like renowned chef Hemant Oberoi (Anupam Kher), as well as guests, when a group of terrorists descends on the city, setting off bombs and shooting machine guns in the streets. When a pair of the armed gunmen arrive in the hotel, Arjun and Hemant cross paths with a couple (Call Me By Your Name's Armie Hammer and Homeland's Nazanin Boniadi) desperate to keep their infant son alive, and all of them realize they'll have to make unthinkable sacrifices to keep their loved ones safe.

Zac Efron and His Brother, Dylan, Both Went Shirtless on Vacation, and It's Making Me Sweat
Zac Efron is on vacation with his brother, Dylan, in Mexico, and that's not even the best part of this story. The best part is that the brothers both lost their shirts for a day in the sun on Wednesday, thus ushering in a truly blessed 2019. The thirst of the nation has been ignited. The sunbeams have never looked so golden. The skin? Showing. The muscles? Glistening. My attention? PIQUED, America.
Forgive me for being overexcited. It's just been nearly three years since we caught sight of Zac's beautiful body. Not since the days of those glorious Baywatch set pictures have we seen our fair prince in all his shirtless glory! Sure, he's been serving hot beard and platinum hair recently, but it just isn't the same. So delight in this beautiful miracle with me, won't you?

Bird Box's Director Hinted at Where Felix and Lucy End Up, and Now I'm Even More Confused
Watching Bird Box can be frustrating for a lot of reasons. Like, why do we never see the creatures? And why can Gary look at them and no one else can? And what, exactly, was John Malkovich going for with his character?! While most of those questions will remain eternally unanswered, the film's director, Susanne Bier, recently sat down with People to hint at another mystery: where the f*ck did Felix (Machine Gun Kelly) and Lucy (Rosa Salazar) go?
Warning: spoilers for Bird Box ahead!
As you might recall, about halfway through the film, the home of survivors where Malorie (Sandra Bullock) has taken refuge experiences a major blow when they wake up and realize the car - their only way to get to the grocery store safely, since they can use its GPS system to navigate while still having blacked-out windows - has disappeared from the garage. Lo and behold, Lucy (a cop) and Felix (an obnoxious jerk), who recently consummated their relationship in the laundry room, decided to steal the car and run off together, presumably because they believe their chances of survival will be better off without a loud alcoholic waving a gun around.
Felix and Lucy's dynamic, in a nutshell.
Well, it seems Bier has no idea where the couple ends up. But she does know what their initial goal is, which is better than nothing, I suppose. "I think [the grocery store] was their plan, but we don't know!" she explained to People. "I think that that's where they wanna go, but I actually think it's quite exciting that we don't know exactly where they went."
Since Malorie and her two young children are the ones left standing by the end of the film, thanks to her extremely harsh rules and dedication to keeping them all from "looking," we'd hazard a guess that Lucy and Felix don't survive long on their own. Their impulsive behavior and roller-coaster relationship doesn't exactly scream survivor material, you know? If the movie ever does move forward with a sequel, though, maybe we'll get an answer about their fates once and for all.

Kit Karington Reveals Filming the End of Game of Thrones Seemed "Designed to Break" the Cast
If you think waiting for the premiere of Game of Thrones's highly anticipated eighth season is exhausting, just be glad you didn't actually have to film it. According to star Kit Harington, the final season was the most intense to work on, and the 32-year-old actor reveals that he was driven to the point of crying more than once.
"The last season of Thrones seemed to be designed to break us," he candidly admitted in GQ Australia's January cover story. "Everyone was broken at the end. I don't know if we were crying because we were sad it was ending or if we were crying because it was so f*cking tiring. We were sleep deprived."
Considering how most of the cast and crew have described the final season as "bloodier . . . and more emotionally torturous than all the years before," we don't find Harington's description of the work behind the scenes hard to believe. While we don't know much about the HBO series's upcoming season, we do know that it's meant to tie up all the loose ends left in season seven and feature the show's biggest battle sequence to date. So there's no question that everyone was put through the ringer during production.
"It was like it was designed to make you think, 'Right, I'm f*cking sick of this,'" Harington added. "I remember everyone walking around towards the end going, 'I've had enough now. I love this, it's been the best thing in my life, I'll miss it one day - but I'm done.'"
The actor explained that after nine years of being away from home, he was looking forward to a more stable work schedule and being at home with his wife, Rose Leslie, who he met on the show and married in June 2018. While he may be happy to see the end of the show (and finally cut his hair shorter), he can't deny that it gave him plenty of happiness. "I thank the show for everything," Harington said. "But more than anything else, I thank it for introducing me to her."
Suffering From Bird Box Withdrawals? Netflix's New Dystopian Thriller Should Help
Just in time to save you from your Bird Box withdrawals, a new dystopian film is arriving on Netflix for you to obsess over.
The sci-fi flick - directed by Jonathan Helpert and written by the trio of Clay Jeto, Charles Spano, and Will Basanta - takes place decades in the future, when the air on earth has become ravaged with toxic gas and the population is forced to flee to one of Jupiter's moons. A young scientist named Sam (Death Note's Margaret Qualley) finds herself as one of the post-cataclysmic planet's last remaining survivors, living alone in a mountain-top lab, safe from the air outside.
Following in her father's footsteps, she's dedicated her life to finding a way for humans to adapt and survive earth's harsh new surroundings, rather than abandoning it for the moon, IO. However, when another survivor (Avengers: Infinity War's Anthony Mackie) crash lands into her life, Sam must decide if she wants to board the final shuttle scheduled to leave for the distant colony with the rest of humanity, or fight for the planet she grew up on.
IO also stars Danny Huston, and will be available on Netflix starting Jan. 18. Watch the first trailer, above!
The 1 Thing You Forgot to Plan For Your Trip to Disney
As most moms know, these days, a trip to Disney takes some serious planning, and mama, you're all over it. You bought your park tickets, booked your flights and resort, and made your FastPass+ and dining reservations months in advance (like six for those coveted Cinderella's castle and Be Our Guest razzes), but as your trip nears, you feel like you're missing something. "This might sound stupid," said my friend, who's about to embark on her first Disney adventure with her husband and two kids, ages 4 and 6, "but I have no idea what to wear."
Since I'm now a seasoned Disney World vet, having done the Magic Kingdom in a day for two years running, I had to agree that finding the perfect outfit to wear to Disney isn't easy. You know many, many photos are going to be taken, so of course you want to look good, but every mom friend who's gone before you will warn that you're likely to walk at least 7-8 miles during your average day at the park (my husband's pedometer confirmed that we took more than 20,000 steps each day we went), which means those cute wedges or even flip flops aren't going to cut it.
If you're style-conscious, however, that oh-so pervasive shorts-and-running shoes look? Not happening either. Here's how you can balance fashion and function at Disney.
- Start with footwear. You're going to be walking a lot during your day at the park, and for once, listen to your own mother and wear appropriate shoes. Luckily, we're in the era of stylish sneakers (thank you, Gigi Hadid, who, by the way, can provide tons of inspiration for stylish sneaker looks), so pull out those All-Stars or old-school Nikes or New Balances, and you're set. I wore my handy Converse the whole day, and my feet were happy that I did.
- Think layers. If you're anything like my family, you'll be at the park from sunrise to way past sunset, so layers (and a good look at the forecast) are key. If you're visiting during a superhot day, a t-shirt or loose-fitting dress will look chic with your tennies, but bring along a light jacket for the early-morning and evening hours. If it's a bit cooler, consider cutoffs and a layered tank and long-sleeve tee or light sweater. If you're going during an abnormally cold Florida day, bring along a hat or light scarf, which can also work as a makeshift blanket for your kids.
- Ditch the shoulder bag. I love a huge shoulder bag in my normal life, but at Disney, I'm all about a small crossbody, just big enough to carry my cash, cards, phone, and lip gloss. Stash the bigger stuff (water, snacks, extra layers) in a backpack that either you or your partner can wear. The key is to keep your hands free.
- Be careful with athleisure. It might be tempting to throw on your favorite yoga pants and tank and call it a day, but if your'e going on a hot, sunny day, those black leggings are going to start feeling more stifling than comfy. Consider shorts instead, and remember this is a child's theme park, not your gym, and no one wants to see you in a sports bra.
- Don't be afraid to add a little Disney, but don't do it on site. You'll see tons of tacky Disney apparel all over the park, both in stores and on visitors, but just because they're doing it wrong, doesn't mean there's not a better way. If you really want to show off your Disney love (and really, who doesn't love Disney, at any age), do a little advance planning and track down a retro Mickey tee or some old-school ears, and skip the overpriced modern stuff sold on Magic Kingdom's Main Street.
California's Governor Just Proposed Something HUGE: The US's Longest Paid Parental Leave
California Governor Gavin Newsom's energetic 2-year-old son might be the first thing that steered your attention toward the political landscape this week, but the recent elect's latest budget proposal is sure to keep your eyes locked. While the US's paid parental leave policies pale in comparison to other countries, Newsom suggested something groundbreaking today.
According to HuffPost, he is suggesting six months of partially paid leave - for both parents! - as part of this 2019 budget. Currently, only some of California parents have access to full benefits, which, when combined, can add up to four months of leave at partial pay. However, many state residents get far less than that, especially if they're same-sex couples or adoptive parents.
This new shift enables caretakers to split up the six months as they choose (so one can stay home for three months while the other returns to work, and then they can switch). Funding for this would come from existing budgets. It's innovative, necessary, and a big move for the state.
No, Going to the Grocery Store by Myself Does Not Qualify as "Me Time"
As a mom to three rambunctious boys, I have a system when it comes to grocery shopping. I will take my kids if I'm getting a few items, but for larger trips, I insist on going alone. Grocery stores can be a parenting battle ground. There have been countless times I've been stuck in long lines with a crying baby or fit-throwing toddler. I've been subjected to unsolicited advice and grumpy gazes from elderly shoppers, or spent way more than I should because I'm distracted or just doing whatever necessary to make it out of the store before I lose my sanity. In short, I've learned that shopping solo whenever possible is the best choice for me. That does not, however, mean that it is a "break" or "me time."
Meal planning, coupon downloading, and shopping are things I do for my family, but they're not fun for me. Preparing for and cooking dinner every night is work, and so is purchasing the ingredients (and everything else that our family of five needs). I've noticed that among other mom friends, a lot of their breaks are really just running errands that need to be done with the "luxury" of being able to do them alone. I did the same thing for many years as a new mom. My husband would take his break by going fly-fishing and my break would be running to the store to get whatever groceries we needed for the week while he watched the kids. I don't do that anymore.
Related: I Check Into a Hotel Twice a Year by Myself, and It's Made Me a Better Mom
I'm fortunate to have a husband who is an equal partner in parenting our kids, but I found myself growing resentful that he would return from his personal time happy and refreshed, whereas I felt like I was on a hamster wheel forever spinning. So, I promised myself that I would make more time to do what fed my soul and made me happy during my downtime.
It hasn't been easy. I had gotten so used to putting my needs last that I found I felt somewhat lost and even selfish doing something that I wanted to do, but then I started to remember who I was before becoming a mother, and that is a beautiful thing. Remembering my hobbies and taking time to "fill my cup" when it's running empty has ultimately made me a more patient, and all-around better, mom.
Does going to the store by yourself feel good when you're a mom? Absolutely! But for me, it does not count as "me time."
Declutter Your Family's Closets in 6 Easy Steps Using the KonMari Method
If you're one of the thousands of parents who have been shamelessly binge-watching Tidying Up With Marie Kondo on Netflix, then you probably feel the immediate need to straighten up your space. But between your partner, kids, pets, and everything else on your to-do list, digging in can seem like a lot to take on at first. And far and away the most overwhelming part? Dealing with all the clothes your squad has amassed. Scroll through to get a bird's-eye view of how to KonMari your family's closets with as little stress as possible. And FYI: you can totally apply this process to your kiddos' closets, too.
How to KonMari Your Entire Home Without Wasting Money on Storage Containers
With lofty resolutions in full swing and Marie Kondo's Netflix mega-hit Tidying Up trending, it seems everyone is trying to get their home in order right now. In fact, the demand for a set of Marie Kondo's small Hikidashi boxes, which are made from fiberboard and retail for a whopping $89, is so high that they're currently sold out. But if you're waiting for the next restock or enough cash to plunk down for beautiful, perfectly coordinated storage vessels, you're missing out.
Resourceful moms like Janine Young, a certified KonMari consultant, point out the plethora of free storage supplies most of us have lying around our homes. Case in point: Janine used an empty baby wipes container and an empty cardboard box she would have otherwise recycled to whip her daughter's socks and tights drawer into organized perfection. And others are following suit, whether it's reimagining an empty tissue box to corral perfumes or repurposing a porcelain cup to hold mascaras and eyeliners in a vanity drawer. You can also stick to cheap bins and baskets from retailers like Dollar Tree and walk away with the dresser storage equivalent of a Starbucks venti latte and baked good.
The point being that you absolutely should not procrastinate your joy-sparking just because you're having trouble finding the right boxes. For further convincing, scroll through this KonMari-inspired gallery of epic storage vessel usage, where organizing tools range from salvaged recyclables to pottery goods plucked from kitchen cabinets, and prepare to be fully charged and ready to organize!
How I Knew I Would Suffer From Postpartum Depression Long Before I Ever Got Pregnant
I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder when I was 15. The highs and lows and tweaking of medications are all things I came to expect and work through, but when I became pregnant with my first child, I was terrified of postpartum depression. I learned that women who are bipolar or struggle with a chemical imbalance prior to pregnancy and birth are at a higher risk of postpartum depression, but I struggled with simply accepting the fact that I would be depressed after giving birth.
In order to become pregnant, I had to change or completely discontinue some of my bipolar medications. I did this with the help and guidance of my therapist and medical doctors, but the fear of depression lingered constantly. I did things to prevent any bipolar episodes, like tapering down medications safely when we were trying to conceive, researching safe antidepressants for pregnancy, and increasing the frequency of therapy appointments once I was off my medication. I had to be honest with myself that postpartum depression was a real threat, but my therapist also encouraged me to stop seeing it as a looming definite that was taking over my mind and away from the joy of my pregnancy.
I became increasingly psychotic about things. I was convinced I was going to fall with the baby and hurt one or both of us. I had a real, actual fear that I might accidentally kill my baby.
Once I did this, I was able to focus on taking care of myself and my growing baby, but I admit, once we got closer to her due date, my fear and anxiety about postpartum depression came back strong. Being aware of your feelings is hugely important when it comes to PPD. Everyone made it seem to me like you come into such euphoria when you have a baby, but the truth is it's hard. Like, really hard. Even for women without any preexisting depression or anxiety. So the biggest lessons I learned were to check in with myself, be honest with myself, and accept help.
My doctor, the pediatrician, my therapist, and I researched and discussed medications that were safe for nursing, because breastfeeding was important to me. I went back on my bipolar medicine regimen after giving birth (my OB actually said in the delivery room, "OK, get back on your meds now!"). I was so focused on making sure I wasn't depressed that I completely overlooked any anxiety that came postpartum. After a few months of increasing my depression meds, I was elated I wasn't feeling any depression. However, I became increasingly psychotic about things. I was convinced I was going to fall with the baby and hurt one or both of us. I had a real, actual fear that I might accidentally kill my baby. It seemed crazy to me! I worried every time my husband went to work that he would be involved in some fatal accident. I was terrified of being in the house by myself, convinced some home invader was lurking in the woods outside our windows. I was constantly afraid something awful was going to happen.
When I brought this up to my therapist, she explained that postpartum anxiety can be just as prevalent as postpartum depression but is less well-known and even less widely discussed. I don't think people talk enough about mental health in general, but new mothers need to know that not only is this all normal and OK, but it's imperative to seek help. In the newborn haze of no sleep, a recovering body, and huge changes in all aspects of life, it's crucial to talk about mental health. It's essential for all new parents to know the scary thoughts in your head are normal and treatable and do not mean the thoughts will become actions. My therapist and I worked on thought-stopping exercises and different types of self-care and self-awareness. I would find one terrifying thought roll into another until I convinced myself I was going crazy. Identifying these thoughts and noting they were just that - thoughts, or things I could control if I focused - helped me overcome the almost debilitating anxiety.
When I became pregnant with baby number two, I was intently aware of my depression AND anxiety and armed myself with remedies for both. I had a toolbox full of things to help at the first sign of either, and I made those around me, like my husband and my mom, aware of what signs to look for if I didn't see them myself. That helped take some of the stress off me while also allowing me to be held accountable for my thoughts and feelings. But the best and most important thing was to talk about it. Talk to other moms, other parents, your spouse, your family, anyone. I didn't feel so alone once I began to slowly communicate my experiences with anxiety to see what kind of response I would get. And what I found was that so many new moms had similar experiences. It was like breathing a sigh of relief that I wasn't the only one convinced I was going insane.
So, while there may be a long way to go when it comes to getting society comfortable with talking about mental health and breaking the stigma that often comes along with it, it only takes one mom and one conversation to get the ball rolling. And I will continue to roll that ball all over the place in hopes that my experience can help normalize postpartum depression and anxiety for another mom who may be suffering.
Kate Hudson Says Having Kids 15 Years Apart "Is Wild," and We Don't Doubt It
After giving birth to her daughter Rani Rose just three short months ago, Kate Hudson sat down to discuss all things motherhood and her new partnership with WW - formerly known as Weight Watchers - on Today. She touched on everything from the challenges of producing milk to how being a mom today compares to when she had her first child 15 years ago, and we're all ears.
"I'm breastfeeding constantly now," she said. "And I'm trying to figure out how to balance the breastfeeding and the work. Even moms [who] have multiple kids, it's just hard. And the pumping - look - I have one friend who's like a milk machine . . . I wish I was a milk machine! I'm not! I need to pump and I need to be on it."
But according to the mom of three, a big family has always been in the cards.
"I always thought I'd have four to six kids . . . when you come from a big family, I think . . . either you don't want kids or you want a lot of kids. At one point, I was like, 'Well, maybe I'm done' and then I met Danny and I was like all right, well I gotta pop 'em out for him."
"I'm definitely a better parent. I'm not messing up Rani as much as I messed up Ryder."
Although Kate said she's not sure if another baby is on the horizon for her and her boyfriend, Danny Fujikawa, the age gap between her oldest son Ryder and Rani was a topic of discussion recently. "Fifteen years and a newborn is really quite amazing to watch," she explained. "It's a completely different generation. And you realize, my son looked at me and goes 'Mom, when I'm 30 she's going to be just turning 16' . . . but that's wild that I'll have a 30-year-old kid and a child in high school."
While Kate certainly acknowledges the big age gap between them, she admits there are some pros to having children further apart.
"I'm definitely a better parent. I'm not messing up Rani as much as I messed up Ryder," she joked. "I think that . . . my life is just different. I'm doing different things. Ryder and I had this seven years of like nomad gypsy life and it was amazing. And he was attached at my hip and we traveled the world and he came everywhere with me and I was shooting movies. And then you add another one into the mix and it just becomes a little bit more challenging. And I tried to do that and I realized I had to kinda hunker down at home a little bit more. Now, I have a really good balance. Honestly, it's like trial and error."
25 Healthy Lunch Ideas For Teens That'll Replace Their Boring Turkey Sandwich Routine
Teens are busy kids - they're on sports teams, they stay after school for extracurriculars that'll look good on their college applications, they're doing their chores (you hope), they're constantly trying to put a dent in growing piles of homework, and they're going to after-school jobs, among any number of other things. It can be hard to make sure your busy kid is eating healthy while staying satisfied in the hunger department as they run around like chickens with no heads trying to stay on top of their schedules; so to ensure that lunch, the meal that carries them through the end of their school day until dinner, is a good one, we've compiled some of our favorite healthy recipes that are perfect for lunch bags.
Not only that, but your teen, if they have the precious time, can make some of these themselves. Check them out ahead - you're definitely going to want to make a bunch of these in bulk so you can eat them, too!
I Really Thought This 1 Marie Kondo Rule Was Ridiculous . . . Until I Did It With My Kids
I rolled my eyes so hard when I first read Marie Kondo's rule to literally thank inanimate objects that were headed to the curb that I thought they'd fall out of my head and be lost forever in the pile of clothes I'd just plopped on my bed.
Three years ago, when I initially went through the now-famous KonMari process in my home, I purposefully skipped the ridiculous step of saying a verbal "thank you" to, say, my faded college hoodie before giving it a loving squeeze and gently setting it aside. I firmly bought into most of her tidying philosophy, but I felt some of her expectations were a bit too, dare I say, ridiculous, for me to actually do. So instead, I barreled through the apartment, tossing the things that didn't spark joy without a second glance. I certainly didn't say two words to those mixing bowls, cowboy boots, and college textbooks before they were out of my life for good.
Whenever I'd proselytize Marie Kondo's philosophy to friends, I would leave out any mention of this bit, or I'd actively advise against it. "Don't waste your time thanking stuff," I'd say.
It took having two kids for me to realize that I was the ridiculous one for pushing so hard against this practice of gratitude.
Whenever I'd proselytize Marie Kondo's philosophy to friends, I would leave out any mention of this bit, or I'd actively advise against it. "Don't waste your time thanking stuff," I'd say.
When the Netflix series based on Marie's book came out earlier this month, I revisited the process. The last time I'd done it, I had a baby, and I skipped over most of her belongings because they were all so new still and it seemed like every single item was essential. But now, with two kids, we've acquired a lot more stuff in the same amount of space, and I couldn't wait to get rid of the things we no longer needed.
As we began to go through toys and books together, I had my 4-year-old tell me which ones she wanted to keep and wish she didn't need anymore. When she said she was willing to part with a stuffed animal I didn't even recognize, I chucked it toward her bedroom door so it'd be out of the way. My daughter immediately shouted "Hey!" before stomping over to give it a tender hug.
In that moment, I wondered if my daughter had read a preschool version of The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up without me realizing: it was as if she was a pint-sized Marie herself, physically showing appreciation even for what she was discarding.
It was then that I understood the point of verbally expressing gratitude for our belongings. My daughter might be a gracious little kid now, but without practicing this type of empathy, will she still be thankful for the things she has as a middle-schooler, as a teen, or as an adult?
So, now, every time we decide a shirt is too small or a toy isn't sparking joy, we don't just toss it in the donation pile. We pass it around, give it a snuggle, and loudly whisper "thank you."
But don't worry: I'm still unconvinced that you need to tap your books to wake them up. You haven't fully suckered me into that one yet, Marie!
12 Signs Your Child May Have a Learning Disability
Does your child hate to go to school? Is it a constant battle to get them to do homework? Do they regularly show you that they understand learning concepts, but often come home with poor test scores? Many kids have trouble with routine school-related tasks at some point, but it can be difficult to know when to consider talking to a doctor about the possibility of your child having a learning disability. Although the signs of learning disabilities vary from child to child, there are some common things parents can watch for if they suspect their child is struggling.
"For a kid with an unrecognized learning disability, school can become a nightmare - very much like prison where he or she is forced to contend with a secretly hostile environment which criticizes, degrades, and breaks them down over time," clinical psychologist Dr. Michael J. Bradley, author of Crazy Stressed: Saving Today's Overwhelmed Teens with Love, Laughter, and the Science of Resilience, tells POPSUGAR. Proper diagnosis and treatment is of extreme importance if parents want to help their children avoid the potential long-term impact of unrecognized learning disabilities.
Students who struggle with undiagnosed learning disabilities often go on to experience lifelong effects into adulthood that impact many areas of their life. Plus, students who are struggling with a learning disability that hasn't been diagnosed may be impacted on a psychological level. Dr. Bradley uses the following analogy to describe what it's like for students who struggle with learning disabilities and don't get treatment: "Imagine having a job where everyone but you speaks Greek, leaving you unable to 'get' what is going on when most around you seem to. Picture being forced to report to that job for six hours a day, 10 months a year, with everyone you love and rely upon for support seeming to judge you only by your job performance (report cards). Worst of all, you're seen as being lazy and unmotivated, constantly being reminded that your life will suck if you don't 'try harder.' That is a prescription for depression and anxiety."

Traveling With Your Kids Might Actually Make Them Better in School, Say Teachers
Whether you have a toddler or a tween, there's one thing that all parents typically agree on: taking them on vacation is exhausting. Not only does it occasionally require you take them out of school, but it's expensive, and if they're young, it can be demanding on the parents, who often have to pack and carry for two. Before you go hiding your family's passports, though, a new study conducted by the Student and Youth Travel Association suggests that vacationing can actually help kids become more successful in school.
The survey, first reported in Travel & Leisure, included 1,500 US-based teachers and discovered that 74 percent of educators believed that travel has "a very positive impact on students' personal development." Teachers agreed that children who had the opportunity to travel to experience other cultures (domestic or international) showed increased tolerance and respectfulness toward other students and other cultures, and a willingness to learn. The study also went on to suggest that kids who travel are more likely to be independent and confident.
While the pangs of traveling with kids doesn't diminish any, the payout might be worth the hassle after all.

I Promise You, Whatever Way You Fold Your Kid's Clothes Is Garbage Compared to the Marie Kondo Method
The other day, I was talking to a friend about Marie Kondo (as we all were) and how the best gift that woman gave me was teaching me to fold clothes so they stack vertically in drawers rather than in a pile. My friend's reply: "Oh, I know! But does she realize it's impossible to do that with kids?!"
Stop. It. Right. There.
On the contrary, there's no better place to put her folding method into practice than with kid clothes!
Most parents are well aware of how a once-tidy dresser drawer can turn into a jumble of crumpled shirts and pants with one visit from their child.
Still, I see the disconnect. Most parents are well aware of how a once-tidy dresser drawer can turn into a jumble of crumpled shirts and pants with one visit from their child. Why go to all the trouble of carefully folding tiny sweaters and tinier leggings only to have them destroy it all in a matter of hours?
That was my mentality when I first did the KonMari method a few years ago. I employed her philosophy to every aspect of my home, except anything to do with my then-2-year-old daughter. I considered them exempt: who was I to determine what sparked joy with a toddler, and at that point, I was satisfied with bins of barely folded clothes that I'd just reach into when getting her dressed.
But, recently, that now-4-year-old got her first official dresser, and it needed some type of organization. I tried stacking the clothes traditionally, but that inevitably meant that every time she'd rip the bottom shirt out from the bottom of a pile, the six shirts stacked on top of it would go flying onto the floor.
So, on a desperate whim, I switched it up and folded her items in thirds before stacking them vertically, like they were in a little clothing filing cabinet. Take a look:

Anyone, Regardless of Age, Could Learn From Serena Williams's Advice For Her Daughter
Serena Williams recognizes that she's being "annoying" when she says this, but she loved being pregnant. The tennis player recently shared some beautiful thoughts on motherhood and her daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., in Allure's February 2019 issue. "I loved everything about it. I was one of those weird people that loved being pregnant," Serena said. "After I came out [of the hospital], I had a stomach, but I thought, This is kind of cool. I have a stomach because the baby was there."
Serena is also realistic, however, about motherhood's many challenges. For starters, she said it was difficult to get back in shape following her daughter's birth. "I'm feeling pretty good about my body. I worked hard at it in the past eight months to get back from the baby," she said. "It hasn't been easy. I'm not 21 anymore. But I did it slow and steady." (For what it's worth, Serena won a grand slam match a mere eight months after giving birth.)
"Standing up for yourself is not going to be easy, but it's always eventually respected."
Serena also opened up about the advice she's imparting to her daughter. "I want her to know that being strong is never easy. Not in this world we are living in . . . Standing up for yourself is not going to be easy, but it's always eventually respected." She added, "When I tell her she's beautiful, I want to teach her that she's beautiful from the inside . . . Giving is beauty. Being kind and humble is the ultimate beauty."
Another piece of advice actually comes from her own mother, Oracene Price, who raised Serena and Venus Williams to become confident women. Serena said her mom helped them "really believe in ourselves, be proud of our heritage, our hair, and our bodies. That was something that was really important for her to teach us."
Parents Are Giving Their Kids Fortnite-Inspired Names, and Hop Hop, Bunny Is Moving to the Top
Unless you've been living in a bunker for the last year or so, then you're probably familiar with the ultrapopular video game, Fortnite, which has taken the world by storm. And while pulling our tweens and teens away from the screen has become a serious chore, by the looks of recent baby name trends, adults have gotten hooked on the game, too.
According to BabyCenter's hottest name trends of 2018, Fortnite-inspired baby names are on the up and up. For example, the name Ramirez - a female character in the game - actually jumped a whopping 57 percent for boys during 2018. Fortnite skins, or costumes the characters wear, also served as a source for inspiration. The name Leviathan increased by 46 percent for boys, Bunny surged 30 percent for girls, and the name Rogue became 47 percent more popular for girls and rose 21 percent for boys over the course of 2018.
Interestingly, real-life gamers are being considered as inspiration as well. Dakotaz, a professional Fornite player, is likely responsible for a 13 percent increase in the name Dakota for girls and a six percent uptick for boys. All we can say is, game on!
This Mom Explained Why She Had to Stop Breastfeeding After 1 Month, and Who Are We to Judge?
After welcoming her son Jace into the world a month ago with her husband, Mike Caussin, former One Tree Hill star and country singer Jana Kramer has been enjoying the time she's spent with her bundle of joy. But as much as Jana loves being a mom of two, breastfeeding has always been a serious struggle for her. So much so that she's already stopped breastfeeding Jace after four weeks. Despite being previously shamed for not breastfeeding her daughter, Jolie, Jana opened up to Us Weekly about the challenges she's faced.
"People have questioned if I'm breastfeeding," she said. "If you don't breastfeed, you're shamed. I tried so hard the second time around because I didn't want to get re-shamed . . . I had two of my girlfriends over at my house, right after Jace, trying to get milk out of my boob, and I'm just like, bawling my eyes out and Michael's like, 'Why are you doing this?' And I said, 'Because everybody's telling me what I need to do.'"
She explained that after enlisting physical help from her friends, she knew it was time to stop. "My girlfriends were pressing on my boob trying to get milk out," she said. "So I was like, 'OK. I'm stopping. I'm done.'"
Ever since Jace switched to formula, the newborn months have been going a lot smoother. "I think it alleviates some stress for the relationship in general," Michael said. "As husbands we don't feel as helpless. We're able to take feedings. We're able to do more as opposed to just, 'OK, you've got to feed him again. Should I wake up with you or just keeping sleeping?'"
Baby Shark Has a Valentine's Day Song, So You May Want to Cover Your Ears Until Feb. 15
If your kids are fans of Pinkfong's original "Baby Shark" song and loved the Christmas version, "Santa Shark," we have some good news: there's also a Valentine's Day jam aptly named "Valentine's Day Sharks."
The themed song features the same melody, characters, and doo, doo, doos, with the addition of hearts, valentine cards, and fresh lyrics about the Feb. 14 holiday. It's a sweet way to get your kids hyped for the lovey day and will give you a slight break from the original song (if we can even call it a break).
The original "Baby Shark" is making its debut on Billboard 100's Top 40 list on Jan. 12 - will "Valentine's Day Sharks" be next?
Christian Bale Has the Most Adorable Nicknames For His Kids (Spoiler: They’ll Make You Hungry)
Celebrities have been known to give their kids unique names (ahem, Blanket, cough, Apple), but when Christian Bale, who won best performance by an actor in a musical or comedy film for the movie Vice, thanked his two children, "Banana" and "Burrito," during his Golden Globes acceptance speech on Jan. 6, I just about spit out my banana burrito my eyes nearly popped out from opening so wide. Of course, the first thing I did was google the actor's children, and I was relieved to find that they actually have very different names (that don't even start with B!).
Christian shares a 13-year-old daughter named Emmeline and a 4-year-old son named Joseph with his wife, Sibi Blazic. It's unclear as to which child is Banana and which is Burrito, but imagining Christian calling Burrito in from outside for dinner or asking Banana what they want for breakfast (banana slices, probs) is equal parts hilarious and insanely adorable.
Ahead, hear Christian thank Banana and Burrito in his acceptance speech (during which a surprising number of viewers realized the actor is, in fact, British) and see people's hilarious reactions to the nicknames.
This Genius Baby Carrier Means You'll Never Have to Put Them on Your Hip Again
I recently had to get very creative. I was in the middle of a 250-plus-mile road trip, just me and my daughter and our dog, when I had to go to the bathroom. I didn't want to carry the car seat into the bathroom with us, so I put her in her baby carrier and went to the bathroom with her like that, essentially sitting on my lap. It was weird, unusual, and, I'm guessing, one of the many things on-the-go parents come up with when strapped for time.
I wish I'd had the TushBaby Baby Carrier ($80) with me. Unlike traditional baby carriers where the child is completely strapped in like they're on a swing or amusement park ride, the TushBaby is more of an unrestricted seat. It's super easy to get them in and out (or on and off, rather), and it takes the weight off your arms and lower back. The belt fastens in a breeze, and you can place baby facing you or facing out. There are also pockets so you can store diapers, wipes, and anything else you might need. If you find baby carriers bulky and constricting, you'll definitely want to try this out.

This News Anchor's Refreshing Take on the Sex Talk Will Have Parents Taking Notes
As a 26-year-old Catholic woman whose early sex education consisted of my parents throwing a copy of American Girl's The Care and Keeping of You at me, the birds and bees discussion has always struck a nerve. But recently, mom of four and NBC News special anchor Maria Shriver addressed the topic candidly, and I've already started taking notes.
"I said, enjoy sex, enjoy your femininity," she told Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager in a segment. "It's a sacred act, but have fun with it, and enjoy your body. Enjoy being a woman." She added that: "If you went to Catholic school and you're in your 50s and 60s, you were, like, guilted and shamed about sex, and you thought you were going to hell if you had it."
Yep, that sounds familiar. When speaking to her two daughters - who are in their 20s - Maria's careful to speak about sex in a positive light.
"I think the shaming of sex is really negative, and I said, it's a beautiful thing," said Maria. "It's something to enjoy, it's something to do with somebody that you love and care about, and don't have any shame about it."
