I Cleaned Out 100+ Items From My Closet by Asking This 1 Question
You would have never known that I organize and overhaul the wardrobes of clients for a living, let alone write books on the subject, if you had seen the state of my closet last week. Standing in my closet last Sunday while trying desperately to find something to wear to brunch led to the realization that my closet was leading a double life. It's not that it was a "hot mess," organizationally speaking. It was, however, glaringly obvious that everything in there represented my previous life, a very different life from the one I am currently living. A closet filled with four-inch heels and designer duds snagged at countless samples sales (read: I worked at Neiman Marcus corporate for almost a decade and everyone drives everywhere in Dallas) does not a smooth transition to the Bay Area make.
So, I made another cup of coffee, turned on my "Closet Overhaul" Spotify playlist, and did to my own closet what I have done hundreds of times for clients in the past.
I picked up the first hanger and asked the million dollar closet question that works like a charm every time I need to make, or assist a client in making, a decision on what stays and what goes. Two hours and several hangers later, I had over 100 items crammed on a rolling rack ready to donate. Cue: mic drop - and it all started with this question . . .

45 Reasons Michelle Obama Will Always Be Our Style Icon
Being the first lady is by no means an easy job, but Michelle Obama always managed to do it in style. Whether stepping out on the red carpet at a formal function or just heading out for a walk with Barack, we've come to love how she always managed to give an elegant look her own surprising spin.
With some heavy-hitting designers in her corner (hello, Jason Wu, Ralph Lauren, and Tom Ford!), we came to expect not just a great outfit but a bona fide style moment whenever she stepped out of the White House. And while we may not have the occasion (or income) to copy every one of her iconic looks, there is still plenty to learn from her flawless FLOTUS style. Read on to reminisce.
I Got This $45 Wrap Skirt, and It's So Flattering, I've Worn It Every Week This Month
I have always been intimidated by the midi skirt trend. My hips are much wider than my waist, so they often make me look like a potato sack because they never fit quite right. After years of staying away from the look, everything changed when I slipped into this Star Asymmetrical Ruffle-Hem Skirt ($45, originally $60) from our POPSUGAR collection at Kohl's.
This design lays over my body effortlessly, flattering my stomach and waist.
This design lays over my body effortlessly, flattering my stomach and waist. There is an elastic section on the back of this piece that allows each woman to get her perfect fit. Plus, the asymmetrical hem lets you show off a hint of leg and add shape to your figure. This is a skirt I can easily take from day to night; it looks great with heels and a bodysuit, as well as with a sweater and booties.
The skirt runs pretty true to size - I'm wearing it in a large, which is often what I wear in pants and skirts. If you're looking for a new wardrobe style, I highly suggest giving this design a try while it's on sale. I'll be wearing mine on the regular.
Perfect Outfits For Petites Who Want Zero Winter Struggles and All of the Compliments
Getting dressed in the Winter is one thing: cocooning yourself in a coat three sizes too big is quite another. While my bestie might look like a million bucks in a floor-length coat, booties, and a beanie, at 5'1", I'd be disappearing into my outerwear, and I'm not ashamed to admit it. If you're a petite gal and you're looking to show off your outfit when you step outside, but actually keep warm, we have some tips for you - and they're a little more exciting than "buy hand warmers." Ahead, we've curated 24 different ensembles that you can try to highlight your figure, even though you're in layers. Whether you need new night-out ideas or office appropriate combinations, we're here for you in a big way.
If You Think Meghan Markle's Sequined Gown Looks Familiar, You're Not the Only One
Meghan Markle's fashion moves often draw a lot of comparisons to those of Princess Diana, but one of her latest looks appears to be a less-than-subtle tribute to her late mother-in-law. The duchess stepped out at a Cirque du Soleil performance in London earlier this week for a fancy date night with Prince Harry. While out, she dazzled in a navy blue, sequined Roland Mouret gown that bore an astounding resemblance to the blue Catherine Walker gown that Princess Diana wore once during a visit to Austria in 1986 and again to a charity ball in 1990.
That Meghan was low-key twinning with Princess Di doesn't seem to be much of a coincidence, since she also accessorized her gown with a gold bangle that once belonged to her. The style move comes just days after Meghan appeared in North England on Monday sporting an unconventional color combination that Diana also wore on more than one occasion during her royal outings. Keep reading to see more photos of Meghan's gown.

Please Stop Telling My Daughter That Her Sibling Is Her "Half-Sister"
Divorce and blending a family come with a whole slew of awkwardness. It's a messy and sometimes misunderstood dynamic to those not living it. Some people are kind, some are awful, and some are intrusive - both purposely and obliviously. I'm a big girl and can handle it. I've been enduring it for years. What I won't stand for, however, is when someone makes my kids feel like sh*t about any part of this dynamic. People, both ones we know and ones we don't, try to qualify my kids' relationship, and it happens more than you can imagine.
We don't use the term "half-sister" because these girls are not half anything. They're whole sisters who love each other with their whole hearts.
You see, after my divorce, I remarried and added another little girl to our crew. While I share custody of my older daughter with my first husband - her dad - my girls are close and adore each other as if they were together every day. My firstborn could not be more gracious, maternal, and loving. Their eight-year age gap left me with questions and concerns, but that was my own insecurities and neuroses. They are the best kind of sisters. The older one is the protector and the little one is her shadow. They are madly in love and I'm equally in love with them and their relationship. However, there are people out there who feel it's necessary to remind my older child that this baby is her "half-sister." While that term might be scientifically accurate, it couldn't be more of a misrepresentation of their bond. It feels dismissive.
Every time the words "half-sister" roll off someone's tongue as casually as if they're placing their morning coffee order, my older daughter gets upset. She asks me why people keep saying that and what it means for them, and she looks for cues on how she's supposed to feel about her sister. It's upsetting, infuriating, and frankly, mean. Why does anyone have to rain on her parade and point out something so meaningless that only makes her question their connection?
We don't use the term "half-sister" because these girls are not half anything. They're whole sisters who love each other with their whole hearts. They play, bicker, and show affection like sisters. Sure, they don't have the same father, but that has zero bearing on their bond. That fact was also out of their control. They took to the role of sisters so naturally and lovingly, so why can't everyone else be accepting and follow suit?
My girls are sisters. Period. They don't need people constantly pointing out the intricacies of their genetic makeup. Mothers like me work hard every day to facilitate healthy, strong relationships within their families. So when others try to undermine that, they're belittling the circumstances under which my kids came into this world. So please, think twice before you say something about someone else's dynamic, because at the end of the day, we're a regular family - just like you.
Princess Diana Wasn't Too Cool (or Too Royal) to Kick Ass at Harry's School Events
Parents these days can sometimes be a little too involved with their children (you've probably met one on the sidelines at your kids' games), but if there's a time or a place to be fully invested in your little ones, it's at Parents' Day. And if there's a parent to model your participation after, it's Princess Diana.
Back in 1991, the Princess of Wales attended Sports Day (it's a thing in Britain, much like Field Day is in the US) at Wetherby School, where Prince Harry was a student at the time. And Lady Di didn't just show up; she went all in for the mother's race, even taking her shoes off to compete (while wearing a skirt and blazer, no less) in the big event.
Diana appeared intensely focused, pumping her arms and clenching her fists as she raced toward the string finish line. Sure, she was just one of a handful of involved moms competing for elementary school bragging rights, but you can't deny that she appeared 10 times more invested than anyone else.
Of course, Princess Diana's commitment to her son's school race should come as no surprise - there wasn't much she did halfway: philanthropy, motherhood, the list goes on. Plus, it wasn't the first time she'd participated in the event - she almost won in 1989 when William was a student. But, much like her humanitarian work, it can be an inspiration to parents everywhere.
When you've been to your fifth Parents' Day, your 15th fundraiser, or you've stopped counting because you've been so involved, remember Princess Diana's intense facial expression, serious arm swing, and long strides. She wasn't embarrassed or shy, she wasn't too cool (or even too royal), and she wasn't so over the annual school event that she didn't give her best effort. So go out there - to Sports Day or Field Day, or whatever day they're doing these days - and play like a princess.

I'm Thankful My Husband Was in the Delivery Room, Because I Couldn't Have Done It Without Him
If my husband wasn't in the delivery room with me during my second childbirth, I know that it would have ended much differently. You see, I was desperately - and I mean desperately - trying for a VBAC (vaginal birth after C-section), but as every women who's been through labor knows, it doesn't always go as planned. Luckily, it ended well for us, but if it weren't for my husband being in the delivery room, I don't think it would have.
He clutched my hands and said, "You can do this. Know that you can do this." Tears started to fall down my cheeks.
When you're trying for a VBAC, doctors suggest trying to avoid an epidural and letting your body progress naturally. But after 20 or so hours, I lost it. I literally lost my sh*t. I started swearing at the nurses and throwing whatever I could get my hands on. I was out of control, but somehow, my husband managed to calm me down by massaging my back and shoulders. He spoke slowly and sweetly to talk just enough sense into me . . . but it didn't last long. Finally, after 38 hours of labor, I begged for an epidural and got it.
After that heaven trickled into my body and stopped the pain, I was finally able to rest for a few hours on and off. My husband pulled up a chair and held my hand the whole time. If I was awake, he'd ask me what I needed (and I always needed something!). And if I was resting, he made sure to leave me be. Then finally, the time came to push. I was fully dilated.
The first 30 minutes of pushing seemed to be going well. "Wow, you're doing so great," my midwife said. "I think your baby will be here sooner than we think." But after two more hours and the damn epidural wearing off, I sat defeated. I had nothing left in me. I still wanted that VBAC so badly, but I just couldn't do it alone. The midwife's optimism suddenly turned. "I'm sorry, but I think we have to send our head OB in here to see if we need to look into another option for delivery."
My heart sank, and my husband felt it. So when the midwife left momentarily, he clutched my hands and said, "You can do this. Know that you can do this." Tears started to fall down my cheeks. I was so sure I had nothing left in me, but I suddenly believed him. I can do this, I thought. "OK," I said.
From that moment, my newly found adrenaline rushed through me. When the OB came into the room, she wanted to watch me push, and damnit, I pushed harder and stronger in the minutes that followed than I had in the past two hours. "She's going to deliver this baby vaginally," she said. And you know what? I did. Actually, we did - my husband and me as a team. Without him in the delivery room with me, there's no doubt in my mind that I would have given up. I would have had a C-section again, and mentally, I would have been destroyed, because a VBAC was something I wanted so desperately.
The moment our daughter laid her furry head on my chest was, by far, the most magical moment of my life. I thanked my husband for simply believing in me that night in the delivery room, because as partners, that's all you need to do.
The Most Popular Baby Name of the Past Century Is Still Trendy - For Both Girls and Boys!
Over the past 100 years, despite the rising and falling of popular baby names, one name has been given to the most babies - 4,792,954 baby boys, to be exact - since 1918: James. And even in the years that the name's fallen to as low as number 19 on the Social Security Administration's top names list that's released every year, it's still considered the most popular over any other name.
And that doesn't even count the number of girl Jameses there are in the world (hello, James Reynolds!). So not only is the name the most popular of the past 100 years, it's still highly trendy and popular for babies of both sexes (according to the most recent data, in 2017, it was ranked number four most popular for boys).
Knowing this, would you choose the name James for your little one?
Netflix's You Is Definitely Not For Kids - Here's What to Know If Your Teen Is Asking to Watch
If you've avoided the internet's collective obsession over one of the latest shows added to Netflix - You, starring Penn Badgley of Gossip Girl as Joe, a psycho stalker - you're actually missing out. The creepily addictive thriller, which first aired on Lifetime but is getting a second season thanks to Netflix, is dark, twisted, and gripping . . . but it's definitely not one for kids to get engrossed in.
The show begins with a woman named Beck (Elizabeth Lail) who walks into the bookstore Joe works in. As soon as we see her, we hear Joe's immediately obsessive inner commentary of her, and so the story of him stalking her and eventually dating her unfolds - but it's not without its obstacles. Joe goes to incredible lengths to make sure no one dates Beck but him, which includes - but is not limited to - murdering anyone who gets in his way.
If your teen has been expressing interest in watching the popular show or you have a feeling this might be the kind of series they'd click on if it came up on their Netflix homepage (which is exactly what happened to me, and once I hit "play," there was no looking back), there are a few things you should be aware of first. You know your teen best, but You is a heavy show with a lot going on, so read ahead to know what your teen is getting into before they start (and get hooked on) the series.
Warning: plenty of panic-inducing spoilers for You lie ahead.

PSA: Target's Giving Out a $20 Gift Card For Every $100 Spent on Baby Items
It's no secret that the world's smallest humans are more often than not the most expensive. They grow out of their clothes faster than you can do up the snap buttons, the price tags on the gear they'll use for a few months to a year might as well read "arm and a leg," they fly through boxes of diapers you swear you just bought, and, even though all they consume is milk and mashed up fruits and veggies, it seems like you somehow pay more for their diets than your own.
Target knows that everything your baby needs adds up, so like the angel it is, it's offering a seriously incredible deal: a free $20 gift card for every $100 you spend on certain baby essentials.
Nearly 1,000 different types of diapers, wipes, formulas, and baby food items are all eligible products to purchase toward the $20 gift card. However, there's a slight catch - you have to place your order using in-store Order Pickup, Drive Up, or Target Restock, the company's next-day delivery service, in order to receive the deal.
So even if all you really have on your Target shopping list is a box of diapers or two, it might be worth it to shop in bulk, or add a few extra eligible items you know you'll eventually need to your cart just to hit that $100 sweet spot. Because the best part of all of this? That $20 gift card doesn't also have to be spent on baby gear - it can be spent on anything Target sells that your late-night-aisle-wandering-heart desires.
Ooh, heaven is a place on earth.

Friendly Announcement: Taco Bell's $1 Nacho Fries Will Be Back Soon!
Fries and nacho cheese go together like, well, most things and nacho cheese, and Taco Bell finally added a menu item that combines the two. The fast-food restaurant introduced Nacho Fries to menus last year, but sadly, the fries disappeared after the initial launch came to an end. Now for the good news: they're back nationwide beginning on Jan. 24! This addictive side - which only costs $1, by the way - features french fries "with bold Mexican seasoning" served with "a dippable side of warm nacho cheese," according to Taco Bell.
While every location will have the menu item for a limited time beginning on Jan. 24, a select few locations will give them out at random - for free - on Jan. 18 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., according to a Taco Bell press release. If you're near one of the 10 Taco Bell locations, consider yourself lucky.
Taco Bell first tested Nacho Fries at the beginning of last year in Irvine, CA, and left the rest of the country drooling over the possibility of trying them. If you missed out on this cheesy concoction the first time around, you've got another chance to try it for a limited time (and another excuse to plan a Taco Bell run with your friends). This might be the best news you'll hear all day!
This Magical Hotel in Sweden Lets You Sleep Among the Trees, and the Views Are Unreal
If going to a cozy getaway is your favorite way to relax and unwind, you'll feel more at ease just looking at photos of the Treehotel in Sweden. Treehotel is so remote that you have to fly from Stockholm to the Lulea Airport, and then the hotel organizes a car service from there or you can take a train. You can choose to completely disconnect and enjoy time in nature, but the rooms are equipped with WiFi just in case. There's also an impressive restaurant on the property serving local ingredients, and daytime activities include dog sled tours, ice fishing, photography walks, and more. Prices range from about $100 to $800+ per night, depending on the time of year and type of room. Ahead, see photos of this breathtaking destination, and you'll immediately add it to your bucket list.

Most Stuf Oreos Are Here, and We Can't Even Fully Articulate How Massive They Are
For its latest creation, Oreo isn't changing a thing about the cookie's signature sweet flavor. Though the brand has recently experimented with many flavors including chocolate peanut butter pie, strawberry shortcake, and rocky road, Oreo's latest release is all about the same classic cookie . . . just in a very different size.
Most Stuf Oreos started hitting shelves at the start of the year, and they make the brand's Double Stuf and Mega Stuf Oreos look like child's play. This supersized iteration joins the other recently released flavors, including Carrot Cake Oreos and the berry-flavored Love Oreos. Based on the social media reaction, it seems like Most Stuf Oreos are a hit so far. Check out a few posts ahead!

Motorola Razrs Are Coming Back, So Remind Me What Year It Is Again?
We may no longer be sporting low-rise jeans, peasant tops, and Juicy tracksuits, but if the rumors are true, then we should all be prepared to feel like it's 2005 again pretty soon. According to The Wall Street Journal, the Motorola Razr - the flip phone that became one of the most popular phones of the early 2000s thanks to its super slim design - is making a comeback. Motorola's parent company, Lenovo, is apparently coming out with an updated version of the classic phone that will be sold exclusively to Verizon customers in the US as early as February.
If you're already hyperventilating over the thought of using T9 and pressing number keys an absurd amount of times just to type out a five-word text message, relax; the new model will reportedly be a foldable smartphone with a full touchscreen keyboard! That said, the price tag on the updated phone may be hefty, as reports say Lenovo plans to produce around 200,000 new Razrs that would sell for $1,500 each. Other possible phone features haven't been shared, but for $1,500, we can only hope that it's getting a major modern update.

Luckily, there's an amazing invention just for families like yours. Imagine a suitcase that holds your child for you!

If going to a cozy getaway is your favorite way to relax and unwind, you'll feel more at ease just looking at photos of the Treehotel in Sweden. Like something out of a dream, this tucked-away hotel offers rooms perched among the pine forest of northern Sweden, and the views are unreal. The hotel offers different rooms with names like the Bird's Nest, the Cabin, and the UFO (it really is shaped like a flying object), all modern variations of tree houses designed by Scandinavian architects that let you sleep among nature - in a luxurious way.

Nothing Can Top the Look on This Groom's Face When He First Sees His Christmas Bride
Christmastime is a wonderful time. With the heavenly white snow, beautifully decorated trees, and glimmering lights, it's hard not to fall in love with the whole season. Aside from the beauty of the season, this bride wanted to incorporate some fun into her big day, and that wasn't complete without a Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer mask. Trust us, you will want to see this!
Besides the hysterical first look from the groom, the wedding dazzled with holiday cheer. The venue was decorated with at least five Christmas trees, about a hundred strands of twinkling lights, and it even featured a choir made up of bridesmaids. The photographer, Rachel Whitehurst, had this to say about the happy couple:
"When I think of a Christmas wedding, this is what I dream of. Liz and Pat are two of the most fun humans I have ever met, and their wedding was one I will never forget. Deep red curtains, sparkling gold lights, the smell of pine, and a warm wooden ceiling made the venue feel both cozy and otherworldly. It was full of goofiness (literally . . . their recessional song was 'Eye to Eye' from A Goofy Movie), but also felt magical - like that feeling I remember from childhood laying beneath the ornamented tree on Christmas Eve."
Take a look at their beautiful day ahead, and try not to laugh when you see the bride's big Rudolph reveal!
This Spinning Ice Disk in Maine Looks Like Something You'd See in Space
In what seems like some form of meteorological wizardry, an almost perfectly circular ice disk was seen rotating along the Presumpscot River in Westbrook, ME, on Jan. 16. Though the disk reportedly began to melt as temperatures warmed up, it stayed spinning long enough to catch the attention of local news stations, and eventually the entire internet after a drone video by Bulldog Aerials made its rounds.
Ice disks form when a river's accelerating water causes larger mounds of ice or slush to break apart. Because of the consistently moving flow of water, the smaller pieces of ice gravitate toward one another, and as they rotate, surrounding mounds and rocks "shave" the ice into a smooth, more uniform circle.
While a moderately rare occurrence in general, ice disks of this size are especially so. According to California Institute of Technology Physics Professor Kenneth G. Libbrecht, most ice disks have a 20- to 30-foot range - this one looks about 300 feet across. "It might be a world-record size, if anybody were keeping track," he told The New York Times. 20 Microaggressions Transgender People Are Tired of Hearing
Conventional wisdom tells us that backhanded compliments are not cute - as a matter of fact, they are not compliments at all. They're nothing more than thinly disguised insults, and when it comes to marginalized groups, they're frequently microaggressions. By definition, a microaggression is a comment or action that expresses a prejudiced attitude toward a member of a marginalized group.
I am a black transgender woman, and I face these microaggressions daily, while scrolling through Tinder or simply walking down a sidewalk minding my own business. Microaggressions surrounding my gender identity can come in the form of "I didn't know you were trans, you look just like a woman!" or "You're cute for a trans!" - lest we forget that the word transgender is not a noun or a verb and therefore should not be used with such incorrect and offensive grammar.
I am also a transgender woman with passing privilege and one who is garnered conventionally pretty. However, although these conventional privileges allow me safer access to spaces that others within my community may not be awarded, I am doubly marginalized as a black person and transgender woman. If I am not clocked as transgender, I still face the various microaggressions that come with being a black girl; expressions such as "you're pretty for a black girl" or "what are you mixed with?" or harassment such as touching my hair or questioning my intellect on a given subject.
These types of microaggressions aren't just situational to me but to the transgender community as a whole. Every day, cisgender people harass my community with these forms of microaggression - even if it's unintentional. With that in mind, I asked people in the transgender and nonconforming community to share microaggressions they have experienced at least once in their lifetimes in the hopes of educating everyone on what qualifies as a compliment - and what's downright offensive.
Did You Know the iPhone Has a Magnifier Tool? Until Now, Neither Did We
Picture this: You're on an amazing date, you forgot your glasses at home, the menu comes, and it's a blurry mess of words. You already said, "I'll have what he's having," on the previous date, so the panic ensues. The iPhone's handy flashlight can only do so much in a dimly lit restaurant, so what you really need is a magnifying glass. Well, drumroll, please . . . there's one hiding right on your phone! Twitter user geo_jones_ recently brought this underrated iPhone feature to our attention, writing, "I was today years old when I found out there was a magnifier glass on the iPhone." Us too, Geoffrey; us too.
For all the times you've squinted to read tiny instructions or missed delicious side dishes hiding on the bottom of a menu, the Magnifier is here to save you, and it zooms in a lot further than your camera. To turn on the function, go to Settings, General, Accessibility, and Magnifier, and toggle it to "on." Voila! You can also add the tool to your Control Center for easy access.
According to CNBC, if you have an iPhone X or later version, triple tap the button on the right-hand side of your phone to use the tool. If you have an iPhone with a Home button, tap it three times to access the magnifying glass. You can even capture a picture while zooming, because you know you're going to need those laundry instructions again later. Ahead, see how to use the Magnifier tool, and see how people across the internet are reacting to discovering this awesome feature.

The #10YearChallenge Is Harder on Women Than You Think
One of the first internet challenges to go viral this year on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter is #HowHardDidAgingHitYou, or the #10YearChallenge. The challenge requires users to share a photo from 10 years ago side-by-side with a current photo. Millennials and Gen-Zers have participated with gusto - mostly because their decade-old picture is of awkward pubescence or wide-eyed youth, and though they are older, they are still "young." But this activity is likely a lot less fun for older women - especially those without access to a glam squad, or cosmetic procedures - because it reduces conversations about age to physical appearances. Recently, prize-winning French writer Yann Moix (age 50) sparked outrage for his, well, outrageous comments on:
- How he was "incapable" of loving women over 50.
- How they were "invisible" to him (they are "too, too old").
- And the pièce de résistance, "[t]he body of a 25-year-old woman is extraordinary. The body of a woman of 50 is not extraordinary at all".
The reality is that aging hits women harder than men in many aspects of modern life. In light of the way this year has begun, it's a good time to reflect on how women and men are forced to age differently.
How aging actually hits women is far more insidious than feeling bad about wrinkles and stray grays (though that is harmful enough).
Let's start with appearance. For women, concerns with body image encompass being told we should look eternally youthful. We are taught to live at war with our age. The near-constant message we receive is to prevent and deny everything about aging. Lie about the number. Gray roots are dreadful. Your face must be as creaseless as a freshly starched shirt. Any natural signs of getting older are embarrassing and need to be combated immediately - from the smallest sag to the tiniest droop. Social media has been fundamental in perpetuating unrealistic body images, enabling and encouraging us to be constant voyeurs, and perpetuating Facetuned (touched-up) images that are unrealistic. Studies suggest this obsession has exacerbated mental health issues in younger users fixated on their body image, and it certainly doesn't help adult women feel better about themselves, either. Through targeted ads, Facebook and Instagram have profited from and enriched corporations that promise to help you regain your radiance (apparently, only the young are radiant) by erasing fine lines and wrinkles overnight. Booming market capitalizations owe much to the pillaging of women's insecurities.
I'm all for women making their own decisions, including about their bodies. Like every woman, I have internalized many social expectations around gender and age, and am certainly not shaming anyone for facelifts or Botox. These choices say little about them, but do speak volumes about the world we inhabit. In her book Hunger, Roxane Gay asks, "[W]hat does it say about our culture that the desire for weight loss is considered a default feature of womanhood?" Social media challenges like #HowHardDidAgingHitYou enable this culture to thrive, such that the desire to look young has also become a default feature of womanhood.
How aging actually hits women is far more insidious than feeling bad about wrinkles and stray grays (though that is harmful enough). Older women face increased discrimination at the workplace, with gender-based mistreatment peaking for women in their 40s.They also suffer a hiring disadvantage. Older women get fewer callbacks than older men, or younger applicants of both sexes, seriously hampering their retirement security. As far as Hollywood is concerned, Amy Schumer's Last F*ckable Day sketch encapsulates how a woman's employability is directly tied to her sexual currency. Other biases around older women include the perception of them as sexless, even though sexual ability does not decrease with age for women.
A social change in our attitude toward aging - including dissociating it from physical appearances - is crucial for both women and men. But the myopic #10YearChallenge excludes the more profound experiences of growth and change that accompany getting older. Perhaps shows like Big Little Lies and movies like The Favourite and Girls Trip, all starring women in their 40s and older, are signaling a shift in the way that women are represented. Nonetheless, older women remain at a social disadvantage - even our everyday language is more ageist toward women. A simple way to make getting older more holistic and inclusive for all women could be to rebrand it as the #LookHowFarYouHaveComeChallenge. This might seem trivial, but a linguistic overhaul may spark the cultural change we need.
Donald Trump Welcomes the Clemson Tigers With a Buffet of Fast Food at the White House
The Clemson Tigers won the national college football championship on Jan. 7, and the White House hosted them to celebrate on Jan. 14. To mark the occasion, the president and White House staff set up a candlelit dinner with silver platters of . . . fast food. Silver platters of fast food. Fast foo - am I in the twilight zone? Sadly, I am not. The dinner for the national champs was an array of Big Macs, McDonald's chicken nuggets and dipping sauces, and items from Wendy's and Burger King; "Great American food," as Trump put it.
"I like it all. I like it all. It's all good stuff, great American food. And it's going to be very interesting to see at the end of this evening how many are left," POTUS said. When he spoke earlier in the day about his plans for the fast-food feast, he said, "I would think that's their favorite food."
Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders weighed in on the decision, saying a lot of the White House staff is furloughed (and not getting paid) during the ongoing government shutdown and that Trump gave of his own bounty in providing the meal. "Much of the residence staff at the White House is furloughed," Sanders said, "so the president is personally paying for the event to be catered with some of everyone's favorite fast foods."
It's no secret that fast food is a big part of Trump's diet, but to serve it at a celebratory dinner for a big group of world-class athletes? Interesting choice. See more photos and reactions to this gourmet feast ahead.
I Was Today Years Old When I Learned This iPhone Hack For Closing All Safari Tabs at Once
If you're anything like me, you collect iPhone Safari tabs like it's your freakin' job. A handful of Thai restaurant menus here and a few randomly googled celebrity factoids there, and next thing you know, you're 174 tabs deep and in serious need of a cleanse. Sound familiar?
Luckily, you don't have to cramp up your thumb while exiting out of your endless tabs, because there's a little-known iPhone and iPad feature that lets you delete 'em all at once - yes, really! As pointed out by Twitter user Joey Taralson, all you have to do is open up your Safari app and hold down the tab icon in the lower right-hand corner until a window pops up giving you options to close all your tabs, close just the current one, open a new private tab, or open a regular tab. Genius!
As it turns out, Joey isn't the only one who's just now discovering this nifty tab-closing shortcut. Tons of people have recently tweeted in amazement while sharing the trick with their equally mind-blown followers. It's safe to say this feature is a total game changer, just like that handy-dandy space bar hack that went viral last year, despite the fact that it's been around for ages.

This Heated Scarf Is Designed to Keep You Warm For 5 Hours, and I Already Feel Cozy
If you're like me, you can never seem to escape the feeling of being cold. Fuzzy socks and heated slippers are good friends of mine, but a heated scarf? I had never heard of such a thing until Dr. Scarf was put on my radar. A company called Dr. Battery, which is headquartered in British Columbia, claims to have invented the world's first heated scarf that warms you up as you wear it around your neck. Yep, I'm in.
The scarf is made of a soft material that combines polyester, anion fabric, and graphene fabric. It releases anions (and therefore heat) when turned on, and I'm no scientist, but all I need to know is that means it heats me up. Dr. Scarf has two adjustable heat settings that you can choose from (high and low), and it snaps together with magnetic buttons. It also comes with a power bank and a three-in-one charging cable that lets you also charge your phone(s), which is a plus.
Right now, the scarf has a Kickstarter page and has not yet met its goal. And not having tried it myself, I can't vouch for its effectiveness, but I can look forward to the possibility of any and all heated products keeping me cozy. See more photos of this life-changing scarf ahead, and learn more on the Kickstarter profile.
