PSA: Taco Bell Has New Shredded Cheeses in Flavors Like Zesty Ranch and Salsa Verde!
Ranch-flavored cheese isn't something I thought I'd ever type, but thanks to Taco Bell, it now exists. Taco Bell is adding its own flair to prepackaged shredded cheese with the launch of four new options in grocery stores: Salsa Verde, Zesty Ranch, 7-Layer Blend, and Breakfast Fiesta, all available at Meijer, according to Delish.
The Salsa Verde is shredded Monterey Jack, sharp white cheddar, sharp cheddar, and mild cheddar with salsa verde seasoning, and the Zesty Ranch has shredded Monterey Jack with ranch seasoning. The Breakfast Fiesta has a bolder flavor thanks to bacon and smoke flavor added to cheddar cheese, and the 7-Layer Blend has a mix of mild cheddar, sharp white cheddar, Monterey Jack, low-moisture mozzarella, sharp cheddar, and "queso quesadilla cheeses."
I don't know about you, but I'd put these upgraded cheeses on just about everything. Scrambled eggs, breakfast quesadillas, Mexican casseroles, pizza, mac and cheese, grilled cheese, and, of course, tacos will never be the same! See photos of each of the exciting new items ahead, and then remember to try Taco Bell's recently relaunched Nacho Fries if you haven't yet.

How Indoor Plants Can Help You Avoid Getting Sick This Flu Season
Think that the role of household plants is to just brighten up living spaces and look nice on shelves? Think again. Many common household plants, such as ferns, palms, and ZZ plants, can actually lower the infectivity of airborne viruses by raising humidity levels indoors. Yes, you heard that right. One of the secret weapons to fending off or dealing with the common cold or flu may not just be in your medicine cabinet - but also on your windowsill.
According to research, when humidity hits above 40 percent, it is able to greatly reduce the virulence and infectivity of the flu virus. Higher humidity also means lower infectivity of airborne viruses. This is where plants come in: all plants, with the exception of succulents and cacti, have the ability to increase humidity levels through a process known as transpiration.
"Transpiration occurs when direct sunlight strikes the leaves and pulls water from them into the air," explains Christopher Satch, head of plant science and education at The Sill. "The plant, in turn, pulls water from the soil to replace the water that has evaporated into the air. The bigger the plant, the more transpiration that occurs, and the more water that gets moved into the air. Humidity increases with increased transpiration and having more plants and bigger plants raises humidity the most."
So don't be afraid to splurge on plants this year - not only do they purify the air we breathe, but they can also keep us healthy. Read ahead for 15 humidity-generating plants, and where to buy them, that can help us to feel our best.
Why This Controversial Organizing Method Is Exactly What You Need
Letting go of clutter is hard to do. Anyone who has encountered the teachings of Japanese cleaning guru Marie Kondo knows that minimalism is currently all the rage; her housekeeping manual, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, has inspired legions of readers to throw away their unneeded belongings. And now her Netflix series, Tidying Up, is ushering in a new wave of devotees. We love all things related to organization and have to admit to clearing out our drawers and closets in a fit of aspirational tidying ourselves.
Not everyone, though, is on board with KonMari, the nickname Kondo gave her techniques. As with any good trend, there's a corresponding backlash. A writer for The New York Times extolled the virtues of living a life surrounded by things in an article called "Let's Celebrate the Art of Clutter." Plus, her stance on ridding your home of books that don't "spark joy" has had book-lovers up in arms.
Whether you're pro- or anticlutter, you must admit there's a certain calmness to be found in a well-organized drawer. Read through to see aspirational examples of Marie's method at work, and see if you aren't a little inspired to take a turn at organizing your own home.
Upset About the Conversation Hearts Shortage This Year? Krispy Kreme Has a Sweet Solution
It was recently revealed that Sweethearts Conversation Hearts will not be available this coming Valentine's Day following a behind-the-scenes business change that disrupted the usual manufacturing process. While we've pondered canceling Valentine's Day altogether, Krispy Kreme is offering a solution: conversation doughnuts.
Available from Jan. 30 through Feb. 14, the cheeky doughnuts will feature updated romantic phrases like "All the feels," "DM me," and so on. As far as the taste is concerned, the heart-shaped doughnuts will be filled with one of four flavors: cake batter, raspberry, strawberries and cream, and chocolate cream.
"Finding the right word can be like, I don't know . . . hard. But eating a doughnut is easy," Chief Marketing Officer Dave Skena said in a press release. "So, we printed the right words on the doughnuts for you so you can't mess this up." Krispy Kreme is also sweetening this deal with a free conversation heart doughnut with any purchase for rewards members on Feb. 6. While we're still slightly bummed by the conversation hearts news, this alternative will surely do.

Zac Efron Morphs Into Ted Bundy in the Trailer For Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile
Zac Efron is officially leaving his wholesome High School Musical past behind him with his latest role, which sees him morphing from Hollywood heartthrob into notorious serial killer Ted Bundy.
The first trailer for the film - Joe Berlinger's Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile - dropped on Friday in tandem with the movie's screening for critics at the Sundance Film Festival this month, and it comes just a day after Netflix released its stomach-turning doc on Bundy. The film focuses on Bundy's trial for his heinous crimes, as well as how he came across to the public, as opposed to centering on gory footage of him murdering his many victims (the trailer does feature Efron menacingly swinging a crowbar, though, for what it's worth).
Interestingly, the film will mostly be told from the perspective of Les Misérables actress Lily Collins, who plays Elizabeth Kloepfer, Bundy's longtime girlfriend, who ended up being the one who turned him into police after spending months denying that her partner could possibly be a killer. Her rosy opinion of him will no doubt help make audiences realize just how charming and disarming Bundy could be in person. There will also be the appearance of Bundy's ex-wife, Carole Ann Boone (played by Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales's Kaya Scodelario), who says in the trailer, "The media convicted Ted before he's had his day in court."
Well, this is definitely going to be interesting. Watch the trailer above before it hits theaters in 2019.
Priyanka Chopra and Sophie Turner Leave Their Men Behind For a Fun Girls' Night Out
Priyanka Chopra and Sophie Turner had a girls' night out at Craig's in LA on Tuesday night. The future sisters-in-law kept things stylish; Priyanka wore an all-black outfit, which she accessorized with an animal-print coat, and Sophie opted for an oversize American flag polo with tights and boots. The actresses left their significant others, Nick and Joe Jonas, behind and appeared to be in a cheerful mood as they flashed smiles to the cameras.
Sophie and Joe got engaged back in October 2017, while Nick and Priyanka tied the knot this past December. According to Us Weekly, Priyanka "absolutely adores" Sophie and she's so glad "she's her sister-in-law." We wonder if Priyanka will serve as one of Sophie's bridesmaids at her wedding?
Matthew McConaughey Ranked His Romantic Comedies, and the Winner Comes as No Surprise
Long before his career renaissance - sorry, McConaissance - Matthew McConaughey was a romantic-comedy king. It all really began with 2001's The Wedding Planner, and his last true romantic comedy to date is 2009's Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. McConaughey has since gone on to pick more challenging and critically acclaimed roles, like in Dallas Buyers Club and True Detective, and even won an Oscar for the former. So, you know, good for him.
On a recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live, however, McConaughey was faced with the difficult task of ranking three of his most well-known rom-coms from best to worst. To no surprise, his 2003 classic with Kate Hudson topped the list. "How to Lose a Guy - you mentioned it earlier saying how much it's on - that film has been my greatest mailbox money of any film. It is always on! There's always this great little check that shows up in the mail."
So with that out of the way, McConaughey revealed how he truly feels about Failure to Launch and The Wedding Planner. See how he ranked them, ahead!
Cardi B Announces Las Vegas Residency - Welp, There Goes My Tax Refund
We know Cardi B is all about the money, and her latest venture has landed her in Las Vegas! On Wednesday, Sin City's Palms Casino Resort announced that the 26-year-old rapper will be headlining her very own residency this Spring at KAOS, a dayclub and nightclub amphitheater-style complex set to open in April. According to the Associated Press, Above and Beyond, G-Eazy, Kaskade, and Skrillex will also have exclusive residencies at the venue.
This is shaping up to be quite the year for Cardi. Not only did she score five Grammy nominations, including album of the year for Invasion of Privacy, but she'll also be performing Super Bowl weekend in Atlanta. Something tells us that wherever Cardi is, she's screaming, "Eeeeooowww!"
You NEED to See Jimmy Fallon and Backstreet Boys Clucking Their Way Through "Everybody"
If there's anything that will make you glad you woke up today, it's probably this video of the Backstreet Boys dressed up as giant chicks as they sing "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)" on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Oh, did I say sing? I meant, cluck. There's just something about seeing grown men "ba-bawk" their way through one of their hit songs while dressed up in yellow feathers that's utterly delightful. Of course, Fallon joined the group for their performance, and the six of them really gave the clucking rendition their all - complete with some classic dance moves. I'm not sure what Fallon has on them that got them to agree to this, but I thank him wholeheartedly. Watch the video above!
M. Night Shyamalan, James McAvoy, and Sarah Paulson Debunk MAJOR Glass Fan Theories
By now, if you've seen Glass, then you know how this 20-year saga plays out: basically, it's a big old mess. Not only does the film have a hard time tying up all the disparate loose threads from the previous two, but it also introduces a handful of new mysteries that don't get solved in the end. Like, what's the deal with those three-leaf clovers?! And doesn't that complex and confusing ending seem more like a set-up for more movies rather than a resounding conclusion? As it turns out, I wasn't the only one scratching my head and puzzling through the enigmatic film.
In the wake of the release, the internet seems to have flooded with all kinds of new theories about the universe, the film, and the potential franchise. Plenty of fans, mostly on Reddit, threw their hat into the ring in hopes they'd be able to detect writer-director M. Night Shyamalan's genius final twist. And, well, the ideas aren't holding much . . . water. Case in point: Vanity Fair recently corralled Shyamalan and two of his stars, James McAvoy and Sarah Paulson, to sift through some of the internet's wild ideas. And let's just say there were more giggles than raised eyebrows.
All joking aside, there were a couple moments in which Shyamalan seemed impressed by the internet's great detectives. Dare we say he got an idea or two for his next great mystery?

Surprise! Gina Rodriguez Announces Jane the Virgin Is "Birthing" a Spinoff
While Jane the Virgin will be ending for good with its fifth and final season beginning on March 27, that doesn't mean the magic is over. The CW has officially given the green light to a Jane the Virgin spinoff pilot, adorably titled Jane the Novela.
Though there's no word on which of our favorite Jane the Virgin actors will star in the spinoff, we do know that the show will be a telenovela anthology in the same vein as its sister series. Each season will be based on a different fictional novel "written by" Jane Villanueva (Gina Rodriguez) and narrated by the author herself. The series's first installment will take place at a Napa Valley Vineyard and focus on a family whose secrets don't stay buried for long. Jane writer Valentina Garza will pen the script, as well as executive-produce alongside Rodriguez and Jane showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman. Ben Silverman and Brad Silberling are also set to executive-produce the spinoff, with Silberling tapped to direct.
To celebrate the news, Rodriguez posted a photo in costume from the Jane set on Thursday, Jan. 24. In the photo, the actress sports what looks like a baby bump, alongside actor Elias Janssen (who plays Mateo, Jane's son). "We got good news from the CW," Rodriguez wrote. "Jane will be birthing a SPIN OFF!!!!!" Considering where we left off in season four, a pregnant Jane is definitely an unexpected sight, especially since the background of the photo looks like it could be the set of Rogelio de la Vega's (played by Jaime Camil) telenovela where he plays President of the United States. Could this be another one of Jane's magical realistic daydreams? Or, is Rodriguez giving fans a sneak peek at Jane's future?
There's so much to think about! Luckily, we don't have too long before season five begins, and we finally get to see Jane Villanueva's happy ending.
Black Women Are an Integral Part of a New Era of TV, and It's Absolutely F*cking Necessary
It was during a five-hour-plus flight back home from a work trip that I came across The Incredible Jessica James on Netflix (which I initially thought was the first season of a show and was heartbroken to find out I was wrong). The movie has everything I love in my flicks - a quirky (but not annoying) protagonist, an awkward love interest, and that modern millennial romance that makes us wince in secondhand embarrassment, while wishing we had that kind of love. Plus, Jessica James is played by Jessica Williams, who I basically want to be when I grow up. So it's safe to say that I was going to enjoy it. By the end of the movie, I was crying.
She's creative, smart, a little bitter, a lot jaded, full of swagger, and black. Just like me.
I wasn't crying because the movie is particularly heartbreaking or overwhelmingly amazing (though it's good!), but because it feels like ME. The Jessica James on my 13.3-inch screen was someone I could relate to on practically every level. She's creative, smart, a little bitter, a lot jaded, full of swagger, and black. Just like me. There have been so few times in my life that a character was able to check off every single box that allows me to connect to them on a deeper level. But with movies like Black Panther, If Beale Street Could Talk, and Little, as well as shows like Grown-ish or Black Lightning, I'm beginning to check off that final box more and more, which was practically impossible several years ago. I was a kid during what felt like the golden age of black television. I remember staying up with my sister so I could watch repeats of shows like A Different World, Living Single, and Martin, but never getting them because I was too young. When I got older, there was UPN (which was basically known as the "black channel"), and with it came iconic shows like Girlfriends, Everybody Hates Chris, All of Us, and Moesha. These were essential watches for black families in the late '80s / early '00s. We had actual black families on our TVs who were loving and realistic and who dealt with problems we understood.
These were the kinds of shows that stuck with us. I'm fairly certain that if I ran into a black woman my age who also grew up in New York and randomly started singing the Moesha theme song, she would join in. Whenever I think about the kind of relationship I want, I think of Whitley and Dwayne (I love a little drama, I can't deny it). When I think about my girlfriends, I want us to be as close as Khadijah, Maxine, Synclaire, and Regina. These were the shows that shaped my hopes and dreams of the future, and they were shows that focused on black women.
But it's always felt like the older I get, the less those shows are around. By the time I was in high school, barely any shows had predominantly black casts. Sure, there were black characters on shows, but they weren't the focus or the protagonists. They were always the sidekicks.
As someone who has always watched a lot of TV, growing up with a lack of proper representation has had a lasting impact on me. Sure, I enjoy a lot of shows that have predominantly white cast members, but I'm always conscious of the fact that no one looks like me, even with shows based in my own city. I can relate to aspects of a character's personality, but that's as far as it can go. I always find myself thinking, "But if she was black . . ."
Some people may think that's a negative way to watch a show. I call bull, because everyone tries to find pieces of themselves in their favorite characters. For example, I love the show Veronica Mars with a passion - call me a Marshmallow if you like. But even though I can relate to Veronica's vivaciousness with gusto, it has always been a superficial connection, and I can never imagine really being in her shoes. Even within the skewed reality of laws that Veronica Mars exists within, there's absolutely no way a black girl could get away with the same things Veronica did.
Imagine Issa Rae breaking into people's homes in Neptune and being able to con her way out of it with a smile and a coil flip. It's not happening. The entire show would have to be changed because all of Veronica's experiences would have to take into account how her being black would affect it. It would alter how she reacts in situations and how people react to her. Because the reality is that, fictional characters or not, things are different when you're different.
That's why the re-emergence of predominantly black television and film is so damn important. Proper representation matters. Seeing yourself in the media is a sign of relevance. It's an indication that your existence is acknowledged and understood. It makes people feel seen and not alone. It shows people that they matter in the grand scheme of things, and it can teach people how to understand those who aren't like them. Proper representation can give someone hope or show them their own potential.
Seeing yourself in the media is a sign of relevance. It's an indication that your existence is acknowledged and understood.
Despite what people like to believe, the media is part of everyone's lives. Whether you're conscious of it or not, it permeates your brain; it builds up and becomes part of your belief of what is "normal" and possible. When you don't see images or characterizations that you can relate to, you start to alter yourself or shrink yourself to fit into the "parameters" society has designated for you. Or, you just feel lost and adrift because you can't change yourself. I would have killed for a PG-13 version of Insecure or a show like Grown-ish when I was a tween and getting called an Oreo for being too "bougie" and nerdy. It would have saved me a lot of years of feeling like an anomaly. Instead, the only figures in media who were close to how I see myself were Hollywood's answer to geeks, i.e., attractive white guys who liked to listen to Death Cab for Cutie and read manga (yes, I'm referring to Seth Cohen from The O.C.).
Having a character like Jessica James, Issa Dee, or Zoey Johnson to relate to in my awkward tween years would have been a godsend. It would have meant that enough people understand that black girls are also quirky and weird and like to dance offbeat to music just like anyone else. That black women can also be badass warriors who can be funny and save the day too. And they understand it enough to make it a movie or create a TV show about it! Tween Meki would have been over the moon to see someone act like her, who looked like her and could have easily grown up like her, on the screen.
#representationmatters pic.twitter.com/W6X4krsLWK
- Nova Bored-Alone (@milas_universe) December 4, 2015
Yes, there have been great strides for representation of various identities in media, but as a black woman, I can honestly say that seeing so many different kinds of black women on my screen has sparked a change in me. Seeing the black women of Queen Sugar, How to Get Away With Murder, and Atlanta showcase how truly different we can be is exhilarating! I see black women who differ in shade, occupation, education, and temperament. I see black women who are doctors, dancers, lawyers, teachers, creatives, and stay-at-home mothers. I see black women who are shapely, athletic, full-figured, slim, and everything in between. And I want to see more. I need to see more. We all need to see more! We have generations of black women who have lacked images of themselves in media, which claims to showcase the world but only does so sparingly or so incorrectly its warped, and they are hungry for something more. It's about f*cking time we gave it to them.

The Trailer For Kit Harrington's Newest Movie Is Here, and My Word, It's Packed With Stars
A pen pal friendship between a celebrity and a child strangely becomes of utmost importance to the general public in The Death and Life of John F. Donovan. The trailer was just released for the upcoming drama with an all-star cast of Kit Harington, Jacob Tremblay, Natalie Portman, Thandie Newton, Kathy Bates, and more. The film is the first English-language film from French Canadian arthouse director Xavier Dolan, who previously made waves with Mommy and Laurence Anyways.
By the looks of the trailer, Harrington portrays a celebrity much like himself - although with a more salacious personal life - and Tremblay portrays a young fan who harbors a secret pen pal correspondence with the actor. Over a decade passes and the no-longer-young fan (portrayed by Ben Schnetzer) still thinks about his pen pal as he ponders society's fascination with celebrity.
After several delays and a poor critical reception at the Toronto International Film Festival, it seems The Death and Life of John F. Donovan will be hitting theaters March 13, 2019. Watch the trailer above.

Thanks to Marie Kondo’s Tidying Up, I Just Cleaned Out the Baby’s Room and Made Some Quick Cash
Like many people, I've completely (well, almost completely) Marie Kondo'd my house. Though I didn't follow her directions to a T, I succesfully decluttered the spaces that mattered: my closet, my kitchen, and our baby's room. It was embarrassing to see the amount of things we'd accumulated in the short period of time our daughter has been alive. In those early months, she grew out of clothing and gear quickly. It was easy to move things into storage and forget about them.
But I addressed these items head-on when I committed to the KonMari method, and quickly understood that moving things from the baby's room into the garage wasn't the answer. It was an answer, sure, but I was essentially moving the problem from one room to the next. These items would have to be donated or sold.
We'd already given away tons of things to expecting friends, neighbors, and coworkers, and after learning about a baby resale store in my neighborhood from a Facebook moms' group, I paused. Marie Kondo had already brought me some joy, could she also bring me some Jacksons?
I went for it and to my surprise, I made a little bit of money! Here's what I learned:
20 Kid-Friendly Cookbooks That Are Perfect For Your Little Sous Chefs
After becoming a mom, I discovered two common denominators that unite almost every kid: they love to make messes, and they love to eat. I realized I could combine these two favorable activities for the greater good of my sanity when my 2-year-old recently became obsessed with helping me out in the kitchen. I'll admit that I was a little cautious at first, but when I saw how much satisfaction she got from cracking an egg, mixing ingredients, and carefully pouring pancake mix onto the griddle, I realized just how beneficial it could be to have her as my sous chef.
Cooking with kids teaches them about responsibility, it helps them see what's going into their meals, and it makes them feel accomplished after each recipe they help create. From curious toddlers to ambitious adolescents, here are 20 kid-friendly cookbooks for parents whose little ones are eager to make some awesome food (and memories!).

This Guy Was in For a Rude Awakening When Marie Kondo Walked Into His Clusterf*ck of an Office
Marie Kondo can clean up anything, right? Her KonMari method has transformed disastrous closets, unbearable toy buckets, and even Jennifer Garner's junk drawer, but when she walked into The Ellen DeGeneres Show, she faced what appeared to be her most difficult challenge yet: tidying up a clusterf*ck of an office. Ellen described her writer Troy as someone who frequents the "free pile," meaning he takes a bunch of random crap that employees were sent and didn't want, and he's filled his office to the brim with all of it.
Sure, he has an entire wall covered in photos of his family (*cue the awws*), but that kitty cat tissue box holder with tissues coming out of the butt doesn't necessarily "spark joy." Troy was in for a rude awakening when Marie entered his office, but her face when she opened his never-ending drawer of pens said it all. Watch the hilarious video above, and Troy, if your Kim Kardashian tree topper needs a new home, I'm happy to provide it with one.
If You’re Obsessed With Your Instant Pot, You'll Wanna Check Out This Pressure Cooker That Crisps
First, we loved our slow cookers more than the members of our families. Then the Instant Pot came around and was all, "Nah uh, honey, this is my kitchen." And now, Ninja is blessing us with the Foodi, a pressure cooker that also air fries, bakes, broils, and roasts with its unique TenderCrisp Technology. Hear that? It's the sound of Instant Pots grumbling.
Inherent appliance rivalry aside, if you love cooking a variety of meals but don't have a ton of time, or if you're just a fan of easy cleanup, the Ninja offers all that and more. For reference, the Ninja Foodi can whip up three pounds of perfectly crispy french fries or a five-pound chicken (with crispy skin!) like it's nothing. You can cook proteins, grains, and veggies of all different textures at the same time. And you can take a food from frozen to crispy in as little as 20 minutes.
Plus, it's not all about the quick weeknight family meals; Food blogger and Ninja Kitchen Recipes Curator Kenzie Swanhart uses it for stress-free entertaining as well. She told POPSUGAR: "I use the Foodi as a quick and easy way to make a healthy meal for me and my husband when I get home from work. I love making the teriyaki chicken, broccoli, and rice as a 'takeout fake out' recipe that is ready faster than if I ordered takeout and had it delivered. Each piece of the meal has a different texture but it is all made at once in one pot! I also love to use the Air Crisper feature when entertaining - it's a quick and easy way to make tasty apps and sides!"
We still love our slow cookers and Instant Pots, but there's no denying the sex appeal of the Ninja Foodi (you know you're an adult once you've called a kitchen appliance sexy). Ahead, learn more about the unique pressure cooker and add it to your cart if you're in the market for an all-in-one meal makin' machine (and take a peek at Ninja's Foodi recipe ideas, all of which look positively drool-worthy).
Traveling to Disney World With a Big Family? This 1 Hack Will Save You Tons of Money
It's no secret that a trip to Walt Disney World isn't exactly a budget-friendly vacation, especially if you're traveling with extended family. But that definitely doesn't mean you can't make it work (everyone deserves to experience the magic of Disney, after all). If you want the whole family to stay on Disney property together, your vacation savings will drain faster than you can say, "Dole Whip, please." The trick? Rent a house.
Let's say, for example, you have six adults and five children in your party - one night in a two-bedroom suite at Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa can cost you over $1,500 per night (PER NIGHT!). Even if your family splits up into two smaller rooms, you could still be looking at over $400 per night for a one-bedroom suite. And while there are some great benefits of staying on property, you may have trouble convincing grandpa that the complimentary transportation and Extra Magic Hours are worth the extra cash.
That's where VRBO comes in. VRBO, or Vacation Rental By Owner, has literally thousands of houses and townhomes within just minutes of Walt Disney World's main gate. And now that Disney is charging hotel guests for overnight parking, you can save even more money by staying in a home with your very own (free) driveway.
So, how much money can you save by booking off property? Speaking from personal experience, my family of four, plus my sister's family of five, along with my father and stepmother, were able to find a home with five bedrooms and five bathrooms for just over $200 per night. That savings adds up quickly when you're planning a trip for five days (or more).
And the benefits don't end with the fact that we have more than enough bedrooms and bathrooms for our entire party. Our house also came with a fully equipped kitchen, theater room, outdoor dining area, a pool, and a hot tub - all amenities that will help us enjoy our time outside the parks just as much as our time in them. And we can use the money we save on hotel costs to get the really important things at Disney, like the amazing food.
My Kid Got in Trouble at School - How Do I Deal With It at Home?
Last week, one of my close friends, whose 7-year-old son also happens to be one of my daughter's best buddies, called me right after picking up her son at school, knowing my daughter was still a 10-minute bus ride away from home. "So, no big deal, but the kids got white-slip warnings today for talking too much during class," she told me. Her son had fessed up immediately and was beyond devastated by disciplinary action, his first-ever as a student. I told her I'd check in with my chatty gal to get the complete story and get back to her to compare.
My daughter arrived home a few minutes later with a smile on her face and not a care in the world. "Um, honey, is there something in your backpack you need to show me?" I asked. "I don't think so," she sweetly replied. "How about a white-slip warning for talking too much?" Her face crumbled, she started crying, and somehow I ended up apologizing to her that she had gotten into trouble, just to soothe the situation (I know, I know).
Later, when emotions had calmed, we were able to have a real conversation about what had happened, why it wasn't OK but also wasn't the end of the world (7- and 8-year-olds often have a new, higher set of expectations in the classroom, which can lead to both intentional and unintentional misbehavior), and how she could do better in the future. If you're on the receiving end of a note or call from your kid's school in regards to some trouble they've found themselves in, here's how to deal.
- Stay calm and don't escalate. It's only natural to have your own feelings - embarrassment, anger, confusion - about your child's misbehavior, but leading with those emotions won't be productive. Instead, take a few deep breaths and talk to your child in a matter-of-fact manner. At this point, you want to get the facts, not shame or further discipline your kid.
- Get your child's side of the story. Teachers have dozens of children to handle, which gives them limited time to evaluate and handle situations. Now's the time to get your child's side of the story. Maybe they were talking during the lesson because they were confused about an assignment or were responding to another student's question. Be your child's advocate while explaining that you support the school and classroom rules and expect them to follow them to the best of their ability.
- Talk about future expectations. If the situation is likely to pop up again - my talkative daughter isn't likely to change any time soon - talk about how they can prevent themselves from getting into trouble (i.e. waiting until free time to talk to friends, raising their hand to question the teacher directly instead of talking to a classmate). Offer alternatives to replace the behaviors that landed them in hot water. Explain to your child that if they continue to get into trouble, there will eventually have to be consequences at home, but there's probably no need to offer further discipline to first-time offenders. The white slip/trip to the principal's office was probably punishment enough.
- Follow up with the school or teacher. Unless the trouble was super minor, it's probably a good idea to reach out to your child's teacher or principal to make sure you're all on the same page about the situation and how to handle similar issues moving forward. Fill your kid in on these conversations so they know you're in communication with the school; that fact alone is often a deterrent for future bad behavior.
I Have 1 Frozen Embryo, and Deciding What to Do With It Is Impossibly Hard
I'm terrible when it comes to making decisions. Settling on simple things like where to go for dinner, what to wear, or what color to paint a room takes me an absurd amount of time. In the end, I usually end up narrowing down my choices and relying on either my husband, best friend, or 4-year-old to make the final call. But now I'm faced with a choice that neither my husband nor I can make: what to do with our remaining embryo once our family is complete.
Four rounds of IVF have given us almost 50 embryos. But twice we received phone calls from doctors who were left scratching their heads over the fact that every single one of our embryos had died. The first time, the doctor was convinced it must have been some kind of lab error. Our second cycle gave us our daughter along with 11 other nonviable embryos. Our third cycle was a repeat of our first. By our fourth and final round, it was determined that we must have an embryo quality issue that simply can't be explained.
Being able to put faces on our unborn children has changed everything. Now, I can't imagine discarding this little snowflake who could have the same light hair and mile-long eyelashes as our three girls.
Because we had lost such an exorbitant number of embryos, preimplantation genetic screening (PGS) was recommended for the ones that remained. Thanks to the PGS, we knew the sexes of our five healthy embryos: two boys and three girls. Our transfer of one male embryo was unsuccessful, while our second gave us our twin daughters. In both cases, choosing which embryos to transfer was easy - we let the embryologists decide based on the quality. At some point in the future, we hope to try one more time for a boy. If it doesn't take, my husband and I both agree that our family is complete. But that still leaves one embryo - one girl - left. And that's where our decision-making ends.
Our doctor offers a few choices to couples who do not wish to use their remaining embryos. They can be donated for research (and ultimately discarded), donated to another couple, discarded from the start, or frozen indefinitely. When the options were first presented to us as part of the precycle paperwork, we never imagined that we'd have a hard time selecting one. But after our twins were born and we saw how much our three girls resemble one another, the decision became impossible. Being able to put faces on our unborn children has changed everything. Now, I can't imagine discarding this little snowflake who could have the same light hair and mile-long eyelashes as our three girls, who could be a natural-born performer like our oldest, sweet and snuggly like our middle, or fierce and feisty like our youngest.
While I love the thought of helping another couple achieve their dream of becoming parents, it's not something I can do. Initially, I wasn't sure that I could handle knowing that someone out there is raising a little girl who probably looks just like her sisters, but I still hadn't ruled out embryo adoption. But now, with the rising popularity of at-home DNA tests, it's off the table. If we did choose embryo adoption, I don't know if it's something that we would share with our children. Because of these at-home tests, it feels like the decision of whether or not to share this information with our children isn't really ours. I can't presume to know how my kids would feel about having another biological sibling. I hope that they would appreciate the fact that we helped someone have a family, but it'll be years before they're old enough to have that conversation.
No one ever warned us how hard this decision would be. Maybe it would have been easier if we hadn't gone ahead with PGS. Maybe not knowing the sex - not being able to imagine her features - would make the decision less difficult. Maybe nothing could make this decision any easier. For now, we'll stick with option four and keep her frozen indefinitely. At $900 a year, it's a costly choice, but it's one we can live with. And someday, when our children are grown, we can make our final decision together as a family.
My Husband Wanted to Name Our Baby After His Grandfather, and the Name Made Me Cringe
Bringing another human into this world is arguably the biggest responsibility you will ever take on. Giving that tiny human a name is a close second. After all, that name can be the basis of someone's first impression. It can be the source of taunts. And if you want to get unique, you could be subjecting your child to a lifetime of correcting people on its spelling or pronunciation. It may not seem like much to you, but as someone who has spent their entire life correcting just about everyone I meet (my name is pronounced Mar-EE-sa, not Marissa), I assure you that it gets old fast. So what happens when your partner is dead set on naming your child something that you hate? In our case, it was a battle of wills until fate stepped in.
Nothing I said or did was going to change his mind. For eight weeks, it was all we talked about. And during those eight weeks, neither of us budged.
When I was 12 weeks pregnant with our firstborn, the ultrasound technician confidently told my husband and I that we were expecting a boy. My husband's face lit up at the thought of having a son, who he was hell-bent on naming Joseph, after his grandfather. I have nothing against the name Joseph. In fact, I think it's a nice name. It's solid and classic . . . but it's also common. And at the time, when we were living in an area where many people prided themselves on their Italian heritage (my husband's family included), it was a little too common.
I tried explaining to my husband that given the area in which we lived, our son would always be one of umpteen Josephs in his class. I even offered up a yearbook from the school at which I was teaching so that he could go through and count all of the Josephs, Joes, and Joeys. But nothing I said or did was going to change his mind. For eight weeks, it was all we talked about. And during those eight weeks, neither of us budged. I was convinced that we would leave the hospital with a nameless child.
During our 20-week ultrasound, we were asked if we wanted to know the sex of our baby. We said we already knew we were having a boy. Well, we were wrong. The technician who had told us that we were having a boy did so prematurely. The 20-week scans confirmed from every angle that we were having a girl. I practically jumped off the table, and everyone in the office heard my shriek of excitement. Not only had I always dreamed of having a little girl, but now the weeks-long battle over a name was over. I had won by default.
Choosing a name for our daughter proved much easier since my husband wasn't interested in any female variations of Joseph. On the day she was born, we arrived at the hospital with two potential names and a plan to select one when we finally met our little girl. In the end, however, my husband got to see and hold her first. I heard him say his first hello, followed by her name. It was one of the two names we had chosen together, but the final decision was ultimately his, and I have no regrets. Not only does her name suit her, but one of our twins has the other name, and never was a baby more aptly named. I'd say that when it came down to choosing a name, we both won, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Unless number four comes along and happens to be a boy. Then we'll be right back to square one.

I Hired a Doula For My Second Pregnancy, and It Was the Best Decision I Ever Made
Looking back on my second pregnancy, there were a lot of things I chose to do differently than with my first. But out of everything I changed, the best thing was the decision to get a doula. It's hard to put into words just how valuable my doula was to me and my birthing experience. Being a new mom is really hard, and when I think back to my first pregnancy, doing it without a doula made it even harder.
The first time around, I really didn't know what I was in for. I took a birthing class and religiously went to my doctor appointments, but on delivery day, I felt like I walked into the hospital totally unprepared. So when I got pregnant with my second child, I knew I wanted things to be different. That's when I found a doula. My doula embodied everything you'd want in the hospital room when you're bringing a new life into the world - she was kind, warm, supportive, and encouraging.
My mental health and happiness were her priority, and it felt so nice to have someone looking out for me.
Due to back injuries, I was unable to get an epidural during my first labor. I had no pain alternatives in place and screamed my head off for hours on end. For my second labor, I decided to practice self hypnosis, and my doula helped me with this. During the labor and birth, my doula was by my side reciting my hypnosis prompts. When my doctor began insisting on Pitocin to induce my labor, my doula was there to support my desire to hold off until absolutely necessary. She was my walking, talking, real-life birth plan. When my son was born, my doula helped me breastfeed him for the first time while also remembering to take out a camera and capture the beautiful memory for me. She did so many things, and I'm so grateful she was there.
Because my husband was by my side through both deliveries, he was also very grateful for our doula. It took some of the pressure off of him. All he had to worry about was staying by my side, massaging me, and supporting me however I needed it.
After the birth, my doula came to our home to check on me. While I saw my doctor and our pediatrician, this was a different type of check-up. She wanted to check on me as a mother, not a patient. She wanted to know how I was feeling, how I was hanging in there, and how I was adjusting to my new addition. My mental health and happiness were her priority, and it felt so nice to have someone looking out for me in that way when I was consumed with thinking of only my new baby. She reminded me that I matter, even in those first few hectic weeks after welcoming a child.
If you've been on the fence about hiring a doula, I highly recommend it. And if a doula doesn't fit well into your family budget, there are often doula students who need to take on clients for certification purposes. They get more experience, and you get more support, and when it comes to labor and delivery, take all of the support you can get!

Beyoncé is starting her year off strong with her first outfit post of the year. Fans of the singer will know she seldomly posts to Instagram, but every now and then, she'll decide to serve up some style inspiration. Beyoncé recently shared pictures from an impromptu photo shoot taken by her daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, and she's wearing a mesmerizing striped outfit that coordinates nicely with the artwork she's posing in front of. David and Victoria Beckham in His-and-Her Blazer Coats Prove Romance Isn't Dead
Victoria Beckham had the support of her family, plus Brooklyn's new girlfriend, Hana, when she stepped out to celebrate the launch of her new Reebok collection in NYC. While Brooklyn and Hana followed a few steps behind, David and Victoria led the way in their matching blazer coats. David went casual underneath - he wore Dr. Martens under rolled jeans, a white tee, and a gray hoodie - but Victoria's outfit confirmed she deserved all the attention.
The designer paired a snakeskin blouse and clutch with red trousers and heeled boots. Her own outerwear was a wool and mohair blend tuxedo coat from her namesake label, but any well-tailored, button-front jacket could've matched David's and aptly given us the heart eyes we have now. Read ahead to get inspired by the duo's coordination, then shop the look.
