I Have 3 Daughters, and I'm So Over Selling Girl Scout Cookies

I have three daughters. They've all done Girl Scouts at some point over the past several years. And that means each Winter, we're tasked with selling cookies . . . lots of them. And I dread it. Like, really dread it. Because with everything I already have going on as a mother of four (I also have one son), I now have to worry about harassing my friends and family near and far to buy boxes of Thin Mints. I'm over Girl Scout cookies, and I honestly don't want to so much as send one email or ring one doorbell with my girls this year.

Suddenly, I'm also responsible for the forms, which look like payroll spreadsheets, and you have to go online and register your girl to sell cookies to out-of-town family and friends.

I remember selling Girl Scout cookies back when I was a kid, and I never thought about the burden it placed on my mom. All I cared about was having decent sales. But now that I'm the mom, I get it. I'm trying to get through each day remembering field trip money for school and making sure all of my children are prepared with clean clothes and completed homework, as well as lunches, water bottles, and snacks. I'm driving them to swim practice, gymnastics, and Girl Scout meetings. Meetings require major prep before you ever add cookies into the equation; there are badges to iron on and there's snack duty to sign up for . . . and then remembering the right date to bring the snack, how many girls are in the troop, who is gluten-free, and who is allergic to peanuts. It goes on and on and on. I'm lucky to get my girls to their meetings on time and in a clean uniform. When that happens, I feel like a freakin' superhero.

But then cookie-selling season comes around. Suddenly, I'm also responsible for the forms, which look like payroll spreadsheets, and you have to go online and register your girl to sell cookies to out-of-town family and friends. There are custom-generated emails you can send; it's high-tech now! You would think that would make selling Samoas easier, but I feel like it only adds to the pressure to sell, sell, sell. Last year, our Girl Scout leader sent out updates of how many cookies each girl had sold, which made me start to worry that my kids weren't living up.

Besides the insane demand to tally up the number of boxes of cookies your kids sell, I honestly hate the element of having to ask people in our lives to spend money on my kids. It's one thing for Grandma and Grandpa to buy a box or two, but that's not enough anymore. When little Sally from the troop is selling 142 boxes, I'm suddenly looking through the contact list on my phone to see who we can put the heat on next. And then there are the booth sales, which take place outside local businesses. Last year, my girls were asked to sit outside in the freezing cold for hours to "torment" every patron who came in or out of a convenience store with a plea to buy some cookies. I wasn't loving that experience for even a minute, let alone for the entire day.

Listen, I think the Girls Scouts is an amazing organization, and my daughters have definitely benefited from membership. They learn about self-respect and respect for others, and they have taken part in some awesome community service projects. I'll take those character-building lessons and activities any day of the week. And yes, I know that selling cookies helps fund those exercises, but can we maybe take some of the pressure off? Both the kids and the parents? It just seems to have turned into one big competition, and I'm so tired. And I know I'm not the only one.

In fact, my youngest daughter's troop leader is allowing parents to donate money in lieu of selling cookies if they just don't want to deal with storing dozens of boxes of Do-si-dos in their basement until they find 18 extra hours in their day to deliver orders to everyone they've ever known. I'm so writing that check!

Here's hoping the Girl Scouts organization identifies other fundraising activities for members. How about a walk-a-thon? Or a family day? Something positive and healthy that affords families time together. Am I the only adult who doesn't think Girl Scout cookies are the best thing ever (I definitely wouldn't miss Tagalongs or Trefoils)? OK, I might be alone in that opinion.

Organizing Your Life by Color Is Actually Really Practical, and Your Whole Family Will Love It

After spending about a half hour scrolling through The Home Edit's feed on Instagram to write an article about its organization solutions for kids' rooms, I had looked through so many photos of belongings in rainbow order, I went home and reorganized every single app on my Apple TV home screen according to ROYGBIV. Then I did my phone apps, even though my thumbs were screaming at me not to due to the muscle memory they've built over time. The feeling I had looking at both screens afterward was, not to be dramatic, one of euphoria.

Which is what I told The Home Edit's Clea and Joanna when I spoke to them on the phone the next day. The pair teamed up with Amazon Alexa to chat to POPSUGAR about staying organized in the new year, and while all of their tips for organizing are amazing (seriously, one look at their Instagram and you'll fall in love), I couldn't help but be fixated on the whole rainbow philosophy.

"It's really useful!" Clea said to me when I told her about organizing my phone apps. "It's a big conversation starter." She's not wrong - one look at my phone and my boyfriend asked with a hint of judgment, "Is your phone . . . rainbow now?" So I wondered, what's their solution when someone is anti rainbow organization?

"In a playroom, it's extremely helpful. It's very intuitive for kids."

"There are definitely people - either for aesthetic purposes or because they just can't wrap their head around it - who are not rainbow candidates, and that is totally fine. We do not push our rainbow ways onto people!" Clea said. "There are a lot of people whose aesthetic is natural woods, or a black and white situation."

Although they don't force their love of rainbow on their clients every time, they are passionate about color order in specific parts of the home. "In a playroom, it's extremely helpful," Clea said. "It's very intuitive for kids, so for children and their rooms specifically, it is a really smart way for them to learn where things go and where to find what they're looking for."

Stimulating vs. Soothing: Which Nursery Is Better?

The following story was originally published on bloom baby.

There are plenty of daunting decisions to make as you prepare for your baby to arrive, from strollers to cribs to names. But decorating the nursery can feel as fraught as a family name vs. a trendy name, with concerns over how the room itself will affect baby's development in their first year. And let's not forget how odd it can feel to take your own carefully decorated home and insert tons of toys and baby gear into it.

One of the first major questions to ask is what kind of sensory environment are you looking to provide your little one - do you want them to feel stimulated and engaged by what's around them, or are you looking to provide a soothing space that works toward a goal of maximum sleep and calm? According to Dr. Laurie Wilkie of Riley Children's Health pediatric hospitalist, "Infants cannot see colors until about six months of age, so the décor of the newborn nursery isn't as important as making sure that whatever is in the nursery is safe for the baby." (She particularly emphasizes making sure the crib you use is up to current safety specifications). You can change the nursery as the baby grows to incorporate more elements or take away any that might not be as safe as the baby grows. For simultaneous stimulation and help getting to sleep, Dr. Wilkie suggests "a mobile which has bright colors and can play soothing music that can be placed over the crib, but should be removed by about five months of age or whenever baby can sit up and possibly grab it."

For new mom and interior decorator Jennifer Hunter of Jennifer Hunter Design, it's all about creating a soothing base that can grow with the baby and adding in stimulating color accents. "I try to keep, even for the clients and myself who love color, the foundation [of the nursery] very neutral. That means the carpet and the crib and the changing table and all the larger pieces are creams and neutral," says Hunter. "I think fabrics and other accents is kind of the way to go to bring in that pop of color." She suggests incorporating colorful bedding, meaningful artwork, and even a pillow on the glider.

As the baby grows, the décor of the room can develop along with them. As opposed to the first few months where safety outranks color, once the baby hits six months, you can adjust the nursery décor. As the baby becomes more active through crawling around eight months, you should remove anything from the crib or the floor that might act as a choking hazard. Hunter focuses on how to design a room that can grow with the child not only through their first year but beyond. "I always like my spaces to be versatile and grow with the child so that it can be a young adult's room as well."

Then there are the elements you can't buy off the shelf at a store. Hunter loves incorporating personal elements into the nursery, whether it's a needlepoint that's been made just for the baby or a family heirloom. For her own daughter's nursery, she had the artwork made for her birth announcement framed and hung in the room with the goal that she's creating "something special that can grow with the child and they can eventually hopefully pass down."

For Dr. Wilkie, that special element is the parents and caretakers themselves. "Babies are very much influenced by their overall environment, and the most important part of that environment is the people they see every day," she explains. "Infants need personal interaction for optimal growth and development, starting at birth. Taking the time to read to your newborn or infant every night can go a long way toward developing cognitive skills. Talking to your baby can help to develop verbal skills, and pointing out objects can help their visual skills to develop." In fact, it may be you that's the most soothing or stimulating element in your baby's nursery!

Dad Sees Dog’s Toy Outside, Finds Its Pulse, Performs CPR, Hooks It Up to an IV, and OMG, This Story

A dad is going viral on Twitter after his daughter shared a family text exchange in which her father outlined an emergency situation with . . . their dog's stuffed animal. "I have sad news . . . I found one of Lucky's babies outside," Michaella's dad texted his family, alongside a photo of the sopping wet stuffed bear. From there it only got sillier, and honestly, more moving.

"I found a slight pulse, I'm doing CPR," her dad texted before announcing "I SAVED HIS LIFE." But it was the photo updates that really had Michaella and her mom scratching their heads and, quite frankly, judging the hero. In one photo, Lucky and the family's other dog are essentially holding vigil by the bear's bedside while he's hooked up to what looks like an IV.

"Where the hell did you get that thing?" Michaella asked him. "He's not a 'thing!' I saved HIS life," her dad responded. Michaella clarified that she was referring to "the arm thing," so her dad told her that he crafted the makeshift IV himself. Meanwhile, Michaella's mom barely managed to get out an "omg" during the exchange.

How do we get into this hilarious family? See Michaella's original tweet and some of the most hilarious reactions to the entire ordeal ahead.

20 Indoor Activities So Good, Your Kids Will Actually Start Dreading Warmer Temps

Winter can be terrible. While the beauty of snow isn't lost on me, the season also brings things like freezing rain, dirty slush, and frigid temperatures. In general, I miss the days of Summer, Spring, and Fall when you didn't need 10 layers of clothing to make life outside bearable. And because of all this, I like to find every excuse under the (hidden) sun to stay inside, but when you have a kid, that task can be incredibly difficult. They have tons of energy they need to get out, they want to be entertained at all times, and they can get bored easily. So what are you supposed to do? Luckily - with both a little planning and a little creativity - there are tons of unique and fun indoor Winter activities for kids that they (and you!) will enjoy. Keep reading to see them all now.

Marie Kondo's Adorable Family Might Be the Only Thing More Perfect Than Her Folding

Since Netflix released Tidying Up With Marie Kondo, it seems that sparking joy is all anyone can talk about. But aren't you curious to learn more about the woman behind the insanely popular organizing method? While Marie has been helping others tidy up for years, it should come as no surprise that her own house is immaculate - even with two toddlers! Her family of four includes her husband, Takumi Kawahara, who is the CEO of KonMari Media, and her 2- and 3-year-old daughters, Miko and Satsuki.

Marie and Takumi are both from Japan and continue to practice Japanese traditions even now that they've moved their family to California, where their company is headquartered. In addition to their working relationship, it seems they've perfected their roles at home, too. Marie shared on her blog that she and her husband "have established a rhythm" when it comes to household chores after using a spreadsheet system early in their marriage. These days they don't need a spreadsheet, but Marie handles cleaning and tidying (no surprise there!) and Takumi does the cooking, which he loves.

And now that they have children, the girls are their top priority. In fact, as the business continues to grow, Marie's main goal is "to work as efficiently as possible so [she] can spend more time with [her] children." Having children has also helped her think about her work from a different perspective: "After giving birth, I realized I'd been living my life thinking about what sparks joy for me. Now I'm thinking about what sparks joy for my child, for my family. Realizing how happy I can be when I'm spending time with my family has been one of the wonderful surprises."

Marie told Time in 2017 that she loves to "sing children's songs" and "read out loud" to her daughters. And based on her Instagram snaps, she also enjoys spending time with them outdoors, going on lunch dates, and doing crafts together. But don't think Satsuki and Miko aren't in on the family business, too! They've been helping keep things tidy from a young age. Marie told The Wall Street Journal that "It's never too early to learn how to tidy up. You can let your children take on a challenge when they turn about 1 year old."

See the girls practicing their tidying skills and spending time with their multimillionaire parents with the family's most adorable Instagrams ahead.

Welp, Cardi B Just Made "Baby Shark" Fashion, and We've Officially Merged All Worlds

There are likely two distinct camps when it comes to the all-too-catchy "Baby Shark." One group does everything humanly possibly to avoid clicking and listening to another version of it for fear of never getting it out of their heads, and the other just can't get enough of the boppy tune. New mom Cardi B seems to be in that latter camp.

A pro at singing to her newborn, Kulture's mom gave fans an inside look at just how far "Baby Shark" has penetrated into their home. Wearing oil-slick leather pants and a neon, barely there bodysuit, Cardi gives Instagram major catwalk fierceness. And it looks completely normal until you crank up the volume button and crane your neck to see what she's lip syncing. There it is: baby motherf*cking shark. Not even Cardi is safe.

This 10-Year-Old Just Won a Science Fair For His In-Depth Look at Whether Tom Brady Is a Cheater

Hey, Tom Brady, Ace Davis would like to have a word with you. The 10-year-old student from Lexington, KY, is making waves after his school science project alleging that Tom Brady is a cheater went viral. "Hater level: 100," his dad, Christopher Davis, wrote on Facebook. Not only did Ace win the school science fair, but he provided an in-depth analysis based on the New England Patriots quarterback's stats - and it's almost more impressive than Tom's career records. Ahead of his ninth Super Bowl appearance, Ace concluded that Tom is, in fact, a cheater.

Ace was inspired by the 2015 Deflate-Gate, when it was believed that Tom ordered the deflating of footballs in the Patriots' AFC championship game against the Indianapolis Colts. "I hate Tom Brady, he's been accused of cheating before, I want him to be caught," Ace told NFLDraftDiamonds in an interview. To test his experiment, Ace, his mom, and his sister threw footballs at different weights to see how it impacted the way they threw the ball. The science fair champion wrote in the conclusion: "The Patriots were found guilty of doctoring football, thus losing $1,000,000 and future draft picks. Tom Brady is indeed a cheater."

The 10-year-old is heading to the district science fair with a vengeance, and as a quarterback himself, it's clear that Ace is ready to take on anything. Read on to get a closer look at his project - but Patriots fans, you might want to look away.

This Couple Had a Spectacular Wedding With a View (and a Slide!), and the Photos Are Breathtaking

Why walk down the aisle when you can slide down the aisle? That's right, when Heather and Jordan decided to say "I do," they chose to celebrate their union at the OUE Skyspace in LA. This unique venue is an open-air observational deck with a panoramic view of Los Angeles and a glass slide on the edge of the building that is roughly 1,000 feet in the air!

"You don't see too many weddings taking place 'in the sky' like this," photographer Monique Dao said. "It provides a unique scene for romantic photos of the bride and groom, and an unforgettable experience for all."

With such an amazing venue, the wedding included some cool decor such as an installation of colorful angel wings on the glass of the observation deck, which provided guests with the perfect backdrop for an awesome Instagram photo. There was also a map of the world on which guests could mark where they live; because the groom is Australian and the bride is American, this showed the merging of family and friends from two different continents.

Nothing Can Top the Look on This Groom's Face When He First Sees His Christmas Bride

Christmastime is a wonderful time. With the heavenly white snow, beautifully decorated trees, and glimmering lights, it's hard not to fall in love with the whole season. Aside from the beauty of the season, this bride wanted to incorporate some fun into her big day, and that wasn't complete without a Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer mask. Trust us, you will want to see this!

Besides the hysterical first look from the groom, the wedding dazzled with holiday cheer. The venue was decorated with at least five Christmas trees and about a hundred strands of twinkling lights, and it even featured a choir made up of bridesmaids. The photographer, Rachel Whitehurst, had this to say about the happy couple:

"When I think of a Christmas wedding, this is what I dream of. Liz and Pat are two of the most fun humans I have ever met, and their wedding was one I will never forget. Deep red curtains, sparkling gold lights, the smell of pine, and a warm wooden ceiling made the venue feel both cozy and otherworldly. It was full of goofiness (literally . . . their recessional song was 'Eye to Eye' from A Goofy Movie), but also felt magical - like that feeling I remember from childhood laying beneath the ornamented tree on Christmas Eve."

Take a look at their beautiful day ahead, and try not to laugh when you see the bride's big Rudolph reveal!

Could the Future of Skincare Shopping Eliminate the Need For In-Store Beauty Consultants?

If you're invested in skin care - and if you buy skincare products, you know it's often an investment - there's a few shopping options we've all grown accustomed to: purchasing online after reading or watching reviews, deciding to buy after seeing a post (or more likely, #ad) on Instagram, or taking a chance in a store. The latter has been somewhat of an alleged ghost town for consumers; in 2019, we have everything we need at our fingertips. I say "alleged" because many publications like to cover the trend of "dying retail," but if you go into retailers like Sephora and Ulta Beauty, the aisles are brimming with customers. Even mass retailers like Target have upped its beauty offerings, making them a legitimate contender in the space.

Pop-ups are also a huge part of the purchasing experience - people want to be able to physically engage with a brand. Benefit launched the Roller Liner Diner pop-up in Los Angeles for 10 days in January to promote its new product, Roller Liner; the Chanel Beauty House was a four-day affair around Oscars weekend on Sunset Boulevard to celebrate the brand's new Instagram page, We Love Coco; brands Too Faced and Jouer have also presented in the pop-up space. While these short-lived shops have been sporadic disruptors in retail, plenty of brands - from Glossier to CoverGirl - have opened up their own permanent brick-and-mortar locations. Needless to say, it appears consumers crave a brand experience, which could translate to more singular brand stores in our future.

In standard shopping environments, you may feel a few emotions: overwhelmed by the breadth of offerings; annoyed by salespeople, usually marketed as consultants or cast members, pushing certain types of products on you. You might even feel embarrassed by assessments from these "experts" about your skin. Then there's that moment when you get home: you physically have the product, and you're willing to try it, but will you keep up with it over time? More importantly, will you see results?

"It's a lot of pressure to shop in the skin care aisle. It's both the pressure to buy things that you don't necessarily want to buy sometimes, and also the pressure of being judged by the beauty consultants out there."

These were the concerns SK-II thought of when it came to the retail experience. The Japanese brand, famous for the Facial Treatment Essence, decided to take a risk and try their hand in the retail space, launching the SK-II Future X Smart Store - first launched in Tokyo, then Shanghai and Singapore in 2018. Describing it as a "phygital" experience - physical + digital - the store utilizes technology like facial recognition, computer vision, and Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) in conjunction with SK-II's proprietary skin science and diagnostics innovation. This, along with Instagrammable photo opps, is meant to take the nerves out of shopping for a skincare regimen.

"The starting point of this is that the physical shopping environment today is quite intimidating," said Sandeep Seth, vice president, global at SK-II. "It's a lot of pressure to shop in the skincare aisle. It's both the pressure to buy things that you don't necessarily want to buy sometimes, and also the pressure of being judged by the beauty consultants out there. What we want to achieve is to really remove that pressure. That is the end goal."

18 Black-Owned Beauty Brands That Need to Be on Your Radar

As a woman of color, finding makeup formulated for my skin tone can be difficult to say the least. A lot of brands see brown foundation and somehow think gray or orange is the perfect accompanying undertone (spoiler: it's not). And don't even get me started on "nude" lipsticks. Even though many popular drugstore brands have made efforts to step up their shade ranges and formulations, it's still important to celebrate and support black-owned brands that make products specifically for women of color. Keep reading to see which black-owned brands are slaying the beauty game right now.

Along with a shampoo and conditioner, it will include five styling products, so every step of your hair routine is covered. "My hair has seen it all, from the stage to the studio to the stylist chair," she told POPSUGAR. "I created Adria by Thalia because I know the transformative effect that great hair can have on your confidence."

A central part of the line are the two scents, which Thalia designed herself. "I became obsessed with selecting the fragrances for the products," she explained. "We ended up using two for the line because I loved them both." One of the scents is rose-based, and the other is an aloe-based fragrance. "It feels like a spa indulgence. I hand-selected the notes of green leaves, rose petals, sheer musk, apple, pear, aloe, fresh cucumber, and violet petals. [They] are intoxicating without being overbearing."

As far as making your hair healthy, the hero ingredient in the line is a proprietary blend that includes coconut, agave, passion fruit, peony, and avocado extracts, which are filled with amino acids and proteins to strengthen your hair. Ahead, you'll see each product in the line, which you'll be able to shop starting this month.

This Magical Serum Completely Transformed My Hair, and You Can Buy It on Amazon

I have a love-hate relationship with my hair. I was lucky enough to be born with incredibly thick hair, but the downside is that it never quite does what I want it to. Plus, after a traumatic seventh-grade cut, I don't take chances when it comes to my hair - even though I've been going to genius hairstylist Nick Chavez to get my hair cut for the last 10 years. At the moment, I've got waist-length layers, and at my most recent appointment, when we were discussing all my hair woes, he gave me a product that changed my life: the Nick Chavez Beverly Hills Professional Velvet Mesquite Serum ($65).

My issues were complex. I wanted something that would maintain the thickness of my hair while also combating frizz and split ends. It's a lot to ask for, but he told me that he's been putting the serum in my hair every time he blows it out. You can always tell how gorgeous my hair looks after a trip to his salon, so I was excited to try it out for myself at home. I washed my hair, worked a nickel-size dollop through my ends after I showered, and went to bed. I was not expecting what happened when I woke up the next morning.

My hair was soft - like, commercial-worthy soft. It was also silky and manageable and all the things I've ever wanted my hair to be. It's Winter, and usually that means my ends are bone-dry, but no more, thanks to this magical serum. As if that weren't enough, it actually makes my hair look even thicker than it already is. I just found my new holy grail product, and the proof is in the pictures.

Jenna Dewan Uses a Massive Face Tool That Looks Like a Sex Toy, but Here’s What It Really Does

Jenna Dewan likes to wake herself up with a face massage. The star posted an Instagram Story of her morning skincare routine, which consists of applying an undereye mask and running a massive, metal face tool up the contours of her jawline. While it might look like some sort of sex toy, the tool is more than likely the ReFa Carat ($290), a facial massager beloved by celebrities, their estheticians, and makeup artists.

The ReFa Carat gives your face a lymphatic massage, which assists with the removal of toxins and can leave you with depuffed and soothed skin. Some even swear that lymphatic massages can help with the prevention of acne. The ReFa Carat also has a mini solar panel built in to stimulate skin and muscles with microcurrents for a toned, leaner face.

See Dewan give her face some R & R ahead.

Anne Hathaway's Best Beauty Looks Are Fit For a Royal Genovian

You likely fell in love with Anne Hathaway in 2001 when she awkwardly fumbled around high school as Mia Thermopolis, casually finding out she was royalty in The Princess Diaries. In addition to remembering the movie makeover to end all movie makeovers, we're taking a look back at the star's most iconic beauty moments of all time before the Princess of Genovia gives us even more makeup and hair inspiration.

That's why when brand founder Jerrod Blandino shared a sneak peek at a long-discontinued product, the Gossip Gloss, on Instagram, fans totally freaked out. Many comments included requests like "Okay. Bring these back! Tooooo cute 😍," while others reminisced about the product's glossy shades ("Yes! Butterfly and Love Lisa were my jams!").

PSA: Taco Bell Has New Shredded Cheeses in Flavors Like Zesty Ranch and Salsa Verde!

Ranch-flavored cheese isn't something I thought I'd ever type, but thanks to Taco Bell, it now exists. Taco Bell is adding its own flair to prepackaged shredded cheese with the launch of four new options in grocery stores: Salsa Verde, Zesty Ranch, 7-Layer Blend, and Breakfast Fiesta, all available at Meijer, according to Delish.

The Salsa Verde is shredded Monterey Jack, sharp white cheddar, sharp cheddar, and mild cheddar with salsa verde seasoning, and the Zesty Ranch has shredded Monterey Jack with ranch seasoning. The Breakfast Fiesta has a bolder flavor thanks to bacon and smoke flavor added to cheddar cheese, and the 7-Layer Blend has a mix of mild cheddar, sharp white cheddar, Monterey Jack, low-moisture mozzarella, sharp cheddar, and "queso quesadilla cheeses."

I don't know about you, but I'd put these upgraded cheeses on just about everything. Scrambled eggs, breakfast quesadillas, Mexican casseroles, pizza, mac and cheese, grilled cheese, and, of course, tacos will never be the same! See photos of each of the exciting new items ahead, and then remember to try Taco Bell's recently relaunched Nacho Fries if you haven't yet.

How Indoor Plants Can Help You Avoid Getting Sick This Flu Season

Think that the role of household plants is to just brighten up living spaces and look nice on shelves? Think again. Many common household plants, such as ferns, palms, and ZZ plants, can actually lower the infectivity of airborne viruses by raising humidity levels indoors. Yes, you heard that right. One of the secret weapons to fending off or dealing with the common cold or flu may not just be in your medicine cabinet - but also on your windowsill.

According to research, when humidity hits above 40 percent, it is able to greatly reduce the virulence and infectivity of the flu virus. Higher humidity also means lower infectivity of airborne viruses. This is where plants come in: all plants, with the exception of succulents and cacti, have the ability to increase humidity levels through a process known as transpiration.

"Transpiration occurs when direct sunlight strikes the leaves and pulls water from them into the air," explains Christopher Satch, head of plant science and education at The Sill. "The plant, in turn, pulls water from the soil to replace the water that has evaporated into the air. The bigger the plant, the more transpiration that occurs, and the more water that gets moved into the air. Humidity increases with increased transpiration and having more plants and bigger plants raises humidity the most."

So don't be afraid to splurge on plants this year - not only do they purify the air we breathe, but they can also keep us healthy. Read ahead for 15 humidity-generating plants, and where to buy them, that can help us to feel our best.

Why This Controversial Organizing Method Is Exactly What You Need

Letting go of clutter is hard to do. Anyone who has encountered the teachings of Japanese cleaning guru Marie Kondo knows that minimalism is currently all the rage; her housekeeping manual, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, has inspired legions of readers to throw away their unneeded belongings. And now her Netflix series, Tidying Up, is ushering in a new wave of devotees. We love all things related to organization and have to admit to clearing out our drawers and closets in a fit of aspirational tidying ourselves.

Not everyone, though, is on board with KonMari, the nickname Kondo gave her techniques. As with any good trend, there's a corresponding backlash. A writer for The New York Times extolled the virtues of living a life surrounded by things in an article called "Let's Celebrate the Art of Clutter." Plus, her stance on ridding your home of books that don't "spark joy" has had book-lovers up in arms.

Whether you're pro- or anticlutter, you must admit there's a certain calmness to be found in a well-organized drawer. Read through to see aspirational examples of Marie's method at work, and see if you aren't a little inspired to take a turn at organizing your own home.
