Ariana Grande Reacts to Winning Her First-Ever Grammy After Skipping the Show: "This Is Wild"

It looks like 2019 is going to be even bigger for Ariana Grande. The 25-year-old won her very first Grammy on Sunday for her fourth studio album, Sweetener, and to quote her first response on Twitter, "F*ck."

The Recording Academy announced the singer's best pop vocal album win via its Twitter page hours before the 2019 Grammy Awards began on Sunday. Grande was originally meant to attend and perform at the Grammys, but following a dispute with the show's producers over which songs she would perform, she pulled out and announced she wouldn't even be attending.

Grande addressed the win and her absence in her followup tweet, saying, "I know I'm not there tonight (trust, I tried and still truly wished it had worked out tbh) and I know I said I try not to put too much weight into these things .... but f*ck ....... this is wild and beautiful. Thank you so much."

She went on to thank Pharrell Williams, her manager, producers, and "every human being at @republicrecords." Of course, she couldn't leave out her dedicated band of "Arianators," thanking them for "being my main source of joy and inspiration always." And since Twitter always knows the best way to celebrate any win, Grande also retweeted a photo of her as a child, edited to show her carrying a Grammy Award, with a simple "Thank U."

Grande also proved that her not attending the Grammys didn't mean she couldn't dress up like the other stars lighting up the red carpet. The singer posted several photos in her custom Zac Posen would-be Grammys gown, captioning the first post, "When Zac Posen makes you a custom gown it doesn't matter if you're singing or not. Thank you." Super casual. Check out the photos ahead!

Yolanda Adams, Fantasia Barrino, and Andra Day Pay Dazzling Homage to Aretha Franklin at the Grammys

If there's anyone who can do a tribute for Aretha Franklin right, it's Fantasia Barrino, Yolanda Adams, and Andra Day. The trio paid tribute to the late Queen of Soul at the Grammys on Sunday night, and they did so with the passion and reverence that would make Franklin proud. The artists performed a soulful rendition of her classic hit "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman."

Numerous artists have paid homage to the legendary singer since she passed away on Aug. 16, 2018, and this performance is another outstanding production to add to the list. Check out the video above and photos of the trio ahead!

6 Fast Facts About Ultracool Singing Sisters Chloe x Halle

Sisters Chloe and Halle Bailey, better known as Chloe x Halle, are just 20 and 18 years old, respectively, but have already taken the music world by storm. The native Atlantans got their start on YouTube nearly a decade ago before hitting it big and landing their own record deal. They even scored two Grammy nominations at the 2019 ceremony after dropping their debut album in 2018. We highly recommend you get to know these talented ladies, because their star is only going to continue to rise.

  1. They have Beyoncé to thank for a lot. The sisters were discovered back in 2013 by Beyoncé herself after they posted a cover of her "Pretty Hurts" to YouTube. She signed them to her label, Parkwood Entertainment, and invited them to open up for the European leg of her Formation tour in 2016 and the On the Run II tour in 2018.
  2. Their debut album was a long time coming. Chloe and Halle didn't release their first album, The Kids Are Alright, until March 2018, three years after they started working on it. They also told Essence that most of the music was recorded in their living room.
  3. They star in Grown-ish. Though the sisters aren't really twins, they play twins in the Freeform show. They play Skylar and Jazlyn Forster and count star Yara Shahidi as a close friend, if her comments of praise on their Instagram are anything to go by.
  4. They're self-taught musicians. Chloe and Halle didn't have formal training when it comes to music. They told Time that their dad encouraged them to teach themselves to write music and play it, so that's exactly what they did. Chloe said she used YouTube and Google to learn to play the keys and produce music.
  5. They've been growing their hair since they were children. The gorgeous, waist-length locks Chloe and Halle both have have taken them years to grow, according to Essence.
  6. They work hard to stay healthy. Both Chloe and Halle stick to a vegan diet and enjoy hot yoga to keep their bodies healthy and in tip-top shape for performing.

Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott Cuddle Up For a Musical Date Night at the Grammys

Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott got pretty cozy on the red carpet at the Grammys on Sunday night. The two had a jam-packed weekend between throwing their 1-year-old daughter Stormi an epic birthday bash and attending Clive Davis's pre-Grammy party. Kylie showed up to the big award show in a pastel pink structured ensemble, while Travis opted for an all-black suit. The famous duo remained close as they embraced each other while cameras captured the moment.

Kylie is there to support Travis, who received three Grammy nominations: best rap performance and best rap for "Sicko Mode" and best rap album for Astroworld. He's also set to perform, so we're sure Stormi is somewhere cheering her father on like she did when he graced the Super Bowl stage on Feb. 3.

What's the Sexiest Part of Jada Pinkett Smith's Grammys Look: the Train, the Leotard, or Her ARMS?

Birds of a feather flock together, and on Sunday night, they flocked to the Grammys red carpet. Jada Pinkett Smith might've been without her hubby, Will Smith, during the award show, but her showstopping dress left jaws on the floor all on its own. The 47-year-old actress turned a plunging leotard into a red carpet gown with a feather-covered train and sequined details across the bodice. She completed the look with Lorraine Schwartz jewels and Giuseppe Zanotti heels.

Between the completely open back and the embellished underwear, Jada's look was absolutely one to remember. Now, if you're standing on stage alongside Michelle Obama, you have to go all out, and that's exactly what Jada did. How about those arms, too?! Ahead, find photos of Jada's gorgeous Grammys look, and then check out the sexiest dresses from the show.

Kacey Musgraves's Golden Romance With Ruston Kelly Will Give You Butterflies

Over the past few years, fans have fallen in love with Kacey Musgraves's no-nonsense attitude and witty lyrics, but she showed a softer side with her third studio album, Golden Hour. As she sings about falling in love and finding the right person, it's pretty obvious the inspiration behind her songs is her real-life love story with fellow country singer Ruston Kelly. In fact, she wrote her hit single "Butterflies" after meeting him. "[I'm] in a really happy stage of my life, a really beautiful chapter," she told The Fader. "And I obviously was very inspired to write about that."

The two first started dating in early 2016, and they got engaged on Christmas Eve later that year when Ruston proposed in Kacey's childhood home. In October 2017, the pair made things official when they tied the knot during a gorgeous woodsy wedding in Tennessee. While they've only made a handful of public appearances together, it's clear from their photos that they do, in fact, give each other "butterflies." See some of their sweetest moments together ahead.

The 30-year-old country singer showed up to Sunday's award show in a strapless pale pink tulle dress that looks sweeter than cotton candy. The delicate dress is belted at the waist and fans dramatically at the top, giving off a similar appearance to Kacey's Golden Hour album cover, which is nominated for album of the year.

Kacey has already secured two Grammy wins from the album. Her song "Butterflies" won best country solo performance and fan-favorite track "Space Cowboy" won best country song. Could there be more in store for Kacey tonight? Scroll through these photos of her angelic gown below, while we wait and see.

If You Thought Miley Cyrus's First Grammys Outfit Was Hot, Wait Till You See What Came Next

Leave it to Miley Cyrus to blow us away with stunning performances and multiple memorable outfits at the Grammys. After walking the red carpet in a badass black pantsuit, Miley changed into a structured black dress by Jean Paul Gaultier that's just the right amount of sheer.

It almost looks like a strapless crop top and a skirt, thanks to the see-through detailing, but the artistic embellishments at her midriff tell a different story. The boxy, high-up neckline that lands just under Miley's chin is almost an overpowering element, but the rest of the dress is so minimal that it works. See photos of her supercool look ahead, and don't forget to watch Miley's performance of "In My Blood" with Shawn Mendes.

Lady Gaga and J Lo Wore the Same Heels to the Grammys, 'Cause Stylish Minds Think Alike

What's better than one powerhouse celebrity wearing a pair of stunning shoes? How about two powerhouse celebrities wearing the same pair, like Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez? The incredible vocalists attended the 2019 Grammys on Feb. 10 in completely different dresses, but they chose the same pair of Jimmy Choo "Max" platform sandals for the award show. Great minds think alike!

J Lo went for a white, straight-off-the-runway Ralph & Russo gown, while Gaga opted for a silver Celine number. In each case, the metallic heels complemented the entirely different dresses. The dynamic duo met up on the red carpet, and while we can't be sure they made the Jimmy Choo connection, they clearly had fun together. Keep reading to see their outfits in full and live vicariously through their fashionable friendship.

Lady Gaga Looked So Good at the Grammys, Even Jennifer Lopez Was Overwhelmed

Lady Gaga looked so good at the Grammys, even Jennifer Lopez was stunned. The singer and A Star Is Born actress attended the award show in a metallic Celine dress with dramatic ruffles at the side. Gaga accessorized the effortlessly cool outfit with a diamond necklace and earrings by Tiffany & Co. As she walked the red carpet - striking incredible poses, per usual - J Lo stopped in her tracks to look at Gaga. The two then proceeded to pose together, making red carpet magic. See Gaga's look from all angles ahead.

The Single Button Holding Together Miley Cyrus's Blazer Deserves Its Own Grammy, TBH

Miley Cyrus pulled off not one but two outfit switch-ups at the Grammys, and each look was just as daring as the last. After walking the red carpet in a sexy pantsuit and performing alongside Shawn Mendes in a belly-button-baring ensemble, the 26-year-old star took the stage for a Dolly Parton tribute performance in another power suit that commanded our undivided attention. Her outfit featured an oversize blazer (that was held together by one very strong button) and matching pants, both made of a yellow lace material covered in sparkly silver embellishments. Miley paired the suit with white heeled booties, silver hoops, and a choker-style chain necklace. Keep reading to get an all-angles look at the singer's performance outfit, and then see what other stars wore on the award show red carpet.

Taylor Swift Blindsided Us All With Her Plunging BAFTAs Dress

Surprise! Taylor Swift was totally at the BAFTA Awards to support her boyfriend Joe Alwyn's new film, The Favourite. But she didn't walk the red carpet. Rather than choose to make an official public appearance at a ceremony on the same night as the Grammy Awards (Reputation was nominated for best pop vocal album), Taylor snuck into the BAFTAs in her plunging Stella McCartney dress, complete with a layer of chiffon pleating. The star swept up her hair to reveal drop earrings and she wore delicate rings to complement her baby blue look. Ahead, check out Taylor's romantic post on Instagram and see her gown spread elegantly around her in all its glory.

There's Only 1 Feminine, Floral Dress That Will Leave You Speechless, and It's Kendall Jenner's

When most celebrities visit The Ellen DeGeneres Show, it takes about 0.2 seconds until my attention has completely shifted to Ellen herself and whatever hilarious, witty remark she makes upon starting the interview. Not the case when it comes to Kendall Jenner, who walked right onto the stage in this formfitting Vetements minidress that made her legs appear miles - like, hundreds of miles - long.

The supermodel talked about her famous family, her relationship with Ben Simmons, and her willingness to open up about her experience with acne and Proactiv. Every time I caught a glimpse of that dress, though, or the neon orange pumps that somehow looked totally effin' cool with it, I felt the itch to shop over anything else. Sorry, Ellen, you're great, and I want to hear what you have to say, but can you just wait while I run to get my credit card?

Why Yes, Cardi B Did Arrive at the Grammys in an Oyster Shell - You Were Saying?

Leave it to Cardi B to surprise us all with a truly unpredictable outfit for the 2019 Grammys. The 26-year-old rapper showed up to the red carpet on Feb. 10 with her on-and-off again partner Offset, dressed like a pearl of the sea. Her voluminous awards show gown is Mugler Couture from 1995, but in my 23 years of life, I've never seen anything quite like it on a red carpet before.

Cardi's look spread like wildfire across the internet and, naturally, became an instant meme. Twitter users started comparing her outfit choice to Ursula from The Little Mermaid, and the pearls adorning her hair to a Ferrero Rocher tower or an onion volcano.

Is there an award we can give Cardi for making the most waves before the show even started? Not that she needs it - Cardi's already up for five awards. Ahead, see a few hilarious reactions to Cardi's creative look, and then keep reading to catch it from all angles.

Sure, Ariana Grande Didn't Attend the Grammys, but That Didn't Stop Her From Wearing Her Gown at Home

Ariana Grande may not have attended the 2019 Grammy Awards, but that didn't stop her from rocking her outfit at home. The singer posted a picture of her would-be Grammys gown on Instagram with the caption, "When Zac Posen makes you a custom gown it doesn't matter if you're singing or not. Thank you." Her light blue gown featured a boned bodice and a voluminous skirt that gave us major Cinderella vibes. She accessorized with a Butani diamond necklace and Borgioni opal diamond studs. Read on to get a closer look, then take a look at every outfit from the Grammys red carpet.

7 Grammys Looks Everyone Will Be Talking About Tomorrow

Keep reading to admire Michelle looking like an absolute queen in her shiny outfit, then be sure to check out the rest of the Grammys looks that made our heart go pitter-patter.

Small Bust? Shop 20 Figure-Flattering Suits to Enhance What You've Got

Swimsuit shopping is a unique battle for anyone, especially if you're self-conscious about being smaller up top. So this season, arm yourself with tricks and you'll be able to stroll seaside with confidence.

  • Flaunt what you have, and fake what you don't. If you're looking to create more cleavage, opt for an underwire bra top (or padding). A structured top will shape what you have, while padded cups can actively fake more if that's the look you're after.
  • Distract, distract, distract. Ruffles, bold prints, and splashes of color are all far busier than a simple, solid suit and can claim an onlooker's attention.
  • Embrace what you can wear. Tiny tops and unique shapes are cute but often spell disaster for women with larger chests. Trendy styles are easy to conquer when support isn't mandatory, so go ahead and play around with fun cuts.

Now that you're up to speed, just read on to shop the cutest suits for small-busted beach babes.

Don't Let Miley Cyrus's Sexy Grammys Pantsuit Distract You From Her Custom Heels

Miley Cyrus has officially arrived at the Grammys, and once again, her outfit of choice doesn't disappoint. After sporting a sparkly LBD at the MusiCares Person of the Year gala in LA on Friday, the 26-year-old singer switched up her look for the award show, stepping out on the red carpet in a sexy, black Mugler pantsuit with a plunging neckline. But the most stunning part of her outfit is the detail you probably missed at first glance: her shoes.

Miley accessorized her look with a pair of black sandals with gold-accented straps and a gold heel in the shape of her first initial. Considering these heels and the similar shoes that Beyoncé wore to the Roc Nation pre-Grammys brunch on Saturday, it's clear that we need more stars wearing their initials on their feet. Read ahead to see more photos of Miley's outfit from all angles.

You Have to Take a Closer Look at the $10 Etsy Earrings Jameela Jamil Wore to the Grammys

Jameela Jamil wore, hands down, the raddest accessory to the Grammys this year, and they only cost her 10 forking dollars. The British actress rolled up to the red carpet rocking a pair of earrings she bought from Etsy - but they weren't just any ol' studs or hoops. They were designed to look like teeny-tiny goldfish swimming in water-filled plastic bags. She definitely gets brownie points for individuality!

In addition to her one-of-a-kind earrings, The Good Place star wore a two-tone J. Mendel gown, red Brian Atwood pumps, a sparkly cuff bracelet, and silver rings while walking the red carpet with her Grammy-nominated boyfriend, James Blake. Keep reading to get an up-close look at Jameela's Etsy earrings, and to score a pair for yourself while they're still in stock!

Ashlee Simpson Looked Like a Party Personified in Her Sheer Silver Jumpsuit at the Grammys

Ashlee Simpson got groovy on the Grammy Awards red carpet Sunday night. The singer wore a sheer Georges Chakra jumpsuit, which featured elaborate beading and whimsical feathers at the waist. Ashlee completed the disco-ball-like look with matching silver tassel earrings.

Ashlee was in attendance with her husband, Evan Ross, who wore a much edgier outfit consisting of a red velvet blazer, distressed jeans, and ankle boots. The couple was there to support Diana Ross, who is going to be honored with a "75th Diamond Diana birthday performance." See photos of Ashlee's daring red carpet outfit ahead.

Sofia Vergara Is Empowering Women With Her New Walmart Line: "I Love Fashion, I Love Jeans, I Love Women"

Sofia Vergara has been bringing the laughs for seasons on Modern Family, but now the star is inspiring happiness in an entirely new way with the release of an affordable denim line with Walmart.com. The online-only collection includes almost 100 items ranging from jeans and denim jackets to graphic tees and will offer sizes ranging from 0-20. The best part? It's all $40 or less.

The actress (and now, designer) spoke with us to give the scoop on all the details of her new line. Read on to hear more secrets on the collection from Sofia herself and to shop our favorite pieces available at Walmart.

"I don't care what anyone says, all women want to look cute. If I can have them look at themselves in the mirror and say, 'Oh damn, I look super cute,' I'm happy."

POPSUGAR: What inspired you to create this line with Walmart?

Sofia Vergara: I love fashion, I love jeans, I love women. I like buying clothes and I have access to a lot of things, but I have always imagined what I could create at a lower price than what I already buy. I wanted to create a jean line because I think it's one of the most important pieces of clothing every woman owns in 2019. I don't know anyone who doesn't own a pair of jeans. My mom is 70 and she wears jeans, my niece is 26 and wears jeans. I needed a retailer like Walmart to get it out there and I think we did a great job with the line. Since the moment the jeans came back from production, I've been wearing them! It makes me really proud to see them on the models. They are of all sizes and they all look so amazing.

PS: Do you have a favorite piece from the collection?

SV: My favorite is the Sofia; I named them after myself. I have that same style of jeans in other expensive brands, so I re-created it with a more affordable price. The style is super comfortable and beautiful.

These Are Frida Kahlo's Favorite Beauty Brands, and You're Probably Wearing Them

These days, you can spot Revlon products gracing the faces of everyone from Gal Gadot to Ashley Graham, but we bet you'd never guess one of the brand's historical fans. As The Guardian reports, none other than Mexican artist Frida Kahlo used the brand's products to fill in her famous unibrow during the mid-20th century.

This news comes via an exhibition at London's V&A Museum that features more than 200 of Kahlo's possessions and beauty Instagram account, Estée Laundry sharing some close up images of her favorite products. These items were saved by the artist's husband Diego Rivera, who locked up the belongings in a room of the "Blue House" they shared together near Mexico City.

Per Rivera's wishes, Kahlo's things were left untouched until 2004. While the collection contains many items such as clothing and the back support corset Kahlo wore after a bus accident that almost killed her, beauty lovers will mostly be interested in the makeup products she wore.

Among Kahlo's collection are two Revlon products: a black brow pencil and a lipstick called "Everything's Rosy," which was supposedly her go-to. Both products are sadly discontinued, but we love the brand's current ColorStay Brow Pencil ($5), as the creamy formula helps darken and shape even the lightest of brows into a Kahlo-approved masterpiece. Other products in her arsenal include reds and pinks that give Kahlo her famous power red look, as well as a staple favorite, Ponds Cold Cream.

This Is What a Dietitian Really Thinks About J Lo's 10-Day No Carbs and Sugar Challenge

In case you didn't know, Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez have started a 10-day no sugar and no carbohydrates challenge that is going viral. The couple also challenged a few of their celebrity friends like Michael Strahan, Leah Remini, and Hoda Kotb to join in on the, err, uhhh . . . fun? We love a good challenge, but we wanted to know the pros and cons of eliminating carbs and sugars from our diet. POPSUGAR spoke to Despina Hyde Gandhi, MS, RD at NYU Langone's Weight Management Program to find out if their challenge is worth following.

Is It OK to Eliminate Carbs From Our Diet?

"Our body preferentially burns carbohydrates for energy; it's our preferred fuel source," Despina told POPSUGAR. "So what happens when people restrict carbs to a really low amount, and that number is usually around 40 to 50 grams per day, the body has to shift gears so it needs to find another fuel source." Instead of burning carbs for energy, your body will begin to burn fat for energy which is a metabolic state called ketosis, she explained.

If you're trying to burn fat this may sound great, but Despina said when going low-carb, "Not everyone feels well. It may make you feel tired, lethargic, have headaches, and dizziness." People cut out obvious sources of carbs like bread, pasta, and rice, but according to Despina, it's hard to completely cut out carbs because foods like vegetables still contain carbs.

Despina doesn't promote eliminating carbs because, "When you cut out carbs, you're saying no to fruit, you're saying no to legumes and lentils, sweet potatoes, and all these wonderful foods that provide fiber for us. It's really hard to get fiber from protein . . . so carbohydrates provide a good source of fiber and also vitamins and minerals," she explained. Despina said people may overeat carbs but, "I don't think we need to cut them out completely." Instead, she recommends incorporating "a reasonable amount at each meal" in order to stay balanced.

In a previous interview with POPSUGAR, Lori Zanini, RD, CDE said, "45 to 65 percent of the average person's daily caloric intake should be made up of carbohydrates." The USDA recommends that people one year and older consume a minimum of 130 grams of carbohydrates per day.

Is It OK to Eliminate Sugar From Our Diets?

Eliminating carbs may make you feel lackluster but cutting out added and processed sugars won't do you any harm. "If you cut out sugar from added sources it's going to be a good thing. In the American diet we probably get too much of that," she said. A benefit of eliminating added sugars is that you'll more than likely begin to eat more whole foods as opposed to foods that have been processed, Despina said. You may also experience a boost in your mood as added sugars disrupt our insulin levels and tend to make us feel unwell and tired.

But when you cut out complex carbohydrates (the "good carbs") like sweet potatoes and lentils, which are technically a form of sugar, you miss out on fiber which promotes digestion and can actually help you lose weight. According to Despina, naturally-occurring sugars like fructose, which occurs in fruits, and lactose, which naturally occurs in milk and yogurt, provide nutrients in the form of minerals and protein for us. "If you say goodbye to all of those things just because they have sugar, you're going to miss out on nutrients that your body needs."

Despina's final verdict on the no carbs and sugar challenge: "Instead of taking the approach of cutting [them] out completely . . . make sure that you're eating healthy, high-fiber complex carbohydrates and eliminating refined sugars and added sugars and processed carbs."

The Sad Truth - Sometimes Divorce Is the Best Option

There are lots of "D" words in this world that people don't want to say or hear, and divorce is one of them. But sometimes, no matter how you slice it, divorce is the absolute best option.

Don't get me wrong; I'm not an advocate for divorce. I am an advocate for trying your hardest to make your marriage work. But sometimes continually trying to force something together that clearly doesn't belong together ends up doing more harm than good. I know from personal experience.

I never thought I would find myself divorced young. I never thought I would find myself divorced, to be honest. I had been with my husband a total of 14 years, and we had been through so much together. However, we had some fundamental issues that didn't give us the strongest basis for our marriage. In our defense, we were high school sweethearts who stayed together before our identities were fully formed. Before we chose careers. Before we gained our total independence.

I'm on the other side now, and I'm here to tell you something: It's sad. It's hard. But sometimes it's the best option.

We dated, got engaged, moved in, got a dog, got married, and then found ourselves at a crossroads. Little problems had grown into big problems, and the resentment piled on. We were either fighting, not speaking, or being passive-aggressive with each other. We decided to go to therapy. Twice. Then we separated, planned date nights, and spent time together, but the resentment didn't subside. Then we tried one last time to get back together and make it work. Spoiler alert: it didn't.

I cried while we signed our divorce papers. Sobbed. Not because our marriage was over, not because we didn't try, but because the life I thought I was going to have was gone and I didn't know where to start or how to start.

I'm on the other side now and have been for a few years. And I'm here to tell you something: It's sad. It's hard. But sometimes it's the best option.

Here's some real talk. No matter how many people are involved - maybe you have six kids, maybe it's just you and your spouse - you deserve to be happy. Getting divorced is not a selfish act, by any means. Sometimes getting divorced allows you both to become the best versions of yourselves, and you both deserve that. You also both deserve to be fully, completely in love with someone, for better or worse, and to be fully and completely loved back. And sometimes what attracted you to someone changes over time. Maybe these reasons are shallow. Maybe they're deep. Maybe they're serious. Whatever they are, sometimes you need to let go of the baggage to be a better person or a better parent. Your children know you're not happy and may act out. Your parents know you're not happy. Your friends know you're not happy. And if you've exhausted all options, it's time to part ways - hopefully amicably.

I understand that there are lots of consequences with a divorce, too. You may lose friends. You may have to sell the house you made a home. A percentage of your pension - the money you worked so hard for - may be lost to an ex-spouse. These are all hard pills to swallow.

But I will say this: there is absolutely no price tag on happiness. You will make it. You will come out on the other side. And you'll look back and realize that letting go of your marriage was for the best.

The Sexiest Books of All Time Will Have You Blushing With Every Turn of the Page

Sexiness in books is preconceived to be limited to romance novels, but it's more than that. It's a universal concept that takes on many connotations about having power and agency and challenging old norms about sex. Whether it's Lolita and Anna Karenina for class or picking up Zane's book for pleasure (pun intended), these stories center on a woman's narrative or celebrate sexuality in a liberating way that's not exclusive to romance. Books that were considered too scandalous and taboo for society are now being praised for their revolutionary schools of thought, particularly now because we are at a juncture in society where we're having open discourses about sex and pushing marginalized voices to the forefront. The impressive books on this list have been doing that way before it registered in our collective consciousness.

Millennial Boyfriend School

Millennial Boyfriend School

Posted by Trey Kennedy on Friday, January 25, 2019

Men, grab a notepad and listen up, because comedian Trey Kennedy is here to teach you everything you need to know about being the picture-perfect millennial boyfriend - with a hilarious twist, of course. In one of his recent weekly videos, the YouTube personality breaks down some "lessons" about the key to a young gal's heart, and the whole thing is just so painfully accurate, I'm honestly wondering if Trey was a millennial woman in a past life.

Before explaining the ideal formula for a mushy goodnight text message, he lays out all the foods a boyfriend should provide his lady to keep her happy, narrowing it down to the acronym "SPIRIT," which stands for sushi, pizza, ice cream, Rosé, iced coffee, and tacos. I mean, he's not wrong. Check out a few other standout teachings below, then join the more than six million people who have viewed Trey's viral video by watching it above.

  • "Who in here thinks you should be the only man in her life? Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong. There's gonna be two other men in her life: one's named Ben, one's named Jerry."
  • "When she's in a dark place, dark chocolate in her face."
  • "If you go on vacations with your girl, you're no longer her boyfriend - you're a photographer. You're a Boomerang specialist. You're a frickin' paparazzi."
  • "Any Bachelor fans in the house? All of your hands should be raised. You will be. And if she asks if any of the girls on the show are pretty, remember this: 'Play dumb, save your bum.'"

My Mom, Daughter, and I Take a Girls' Trip Every Winter, and You Should, Too

As a Midwesterner, I like to say that I'm a fan of the seasons, but I'm lying. I pretty much despise Winter. Sure, I'll admire the beauty of the first snowfall and revel in the guilt-free nature of Netflix binges in front of a fire (it's too cold to do anything else), but really, my favorite part of Winter is escaping it. And my favorite excursion, undoubtedly, is the annual trip my mom, my daughter, and I take for a long weekend in February.

I love the men in our lives, but there's something about a girls-only getaway that's so extraordinary.

Our destination is a resort where drinks are served on the beach and by the adjacent pool and the preferred mode of transportation is a golf cart. And while that's all part of the allure, it's really the company that makes this particular trip one that I know all three of us will cherish for the rest of our lives.

Don't get me wrong: I love the men in our lives - grandpas, dads, uncles, and brothers - but there's something about a girls-only getaway that's so different and extraordinary. As wonderful as those boys and men of ours may be, their agendas and ideas of what constitutes fun are often much different than our own. But when it's just the ladies, we can fully relax and bond while doing the things we love, which, yes, includes shopping, spa-going, and sunning.

Some of my own favorite childhood memories involve taking big-city trips with my grandma, aunt, and mom, where we would spend hours wandering the stores on Chicago's Michigan Avenue, then retire to our hotel room to chat about everything under the sun and order room service. I remember listening to them call their husbands to check in, but, truthfully, we didn't miss them a bit. We were loving every minute of glorious girl time.

Our annual beach vacation gives my 7-year-old daughter this same wonderful experience with the added benefits of a few extra days and escaping the cold, and I know she appreciates both as much as I do. Away from school schedules and family routines, we're able to just enjoy each other, and any time her moodiness or my stubbornness threatens that enjoyment, Grandma is there to quell the storm and remind us how lucky we are to have each other. And we are so lucky.

This trip, like my childhood girls' trips, won't last forever. One day, my daughter won't think sharing a room with her mom and grandma sounds like a dream, and one day, my mom won't be around for us both to love on. But this year, and hopefully next year and the year after that, we're all on the same page, thrilled to have quality time together. And I plan to soak up every minute of it.

There's a Period Emoji Coming, So I Guess That's a Step in the Right Direction

All of the emoji you normally use to indicate that you're on your cycle can go back to their original uses now, because thanks to a campaign led by Plan International UK, we're finally getting the period emoji that we all bloody deserve (sorry). Plan International UK is a girls' rights organization that's spent the last few years attempting to get the emoji added to keyboards as a way to destigmatize periods, and make it an easier topic for women to talk to their peers about.

"The fact so many women in this country still find it difficult to talk to work colleagues, friends, and family about their period shows that it remains a taboo subject and something women feel ashamed to discuss," Girls' Rights Campaign Manager Lucy Russell said when the push began in 2017. "We know that these taboos can have a damaging impact on the lives of girls around the world. Many missing school because they face bullying or unfair treatment, or experiencing infections due to a lack of menstrual hygiene education and products."

Russell continued, "Women have told us that by having an emoji, it will make it easier for them to talk about periods with others and so that's why we're addressing the need and creating something that everyone can use. Hopefully this will go some way towards breaking down the stigma surrounding periods once and for all." Unicode officially confirmed in February that the character, a red drop of blood, will be released with the newest batch of emoji coming soon.

Here's Why Divorce Just Isn't an Option For Us

A little over 11 years ago, my husband and I stood together in a room full of our family and friends - and a few random, obscure cousins no one had ever mentioned until it was time to mail out wedding invitations - and promised to love each other in good times and in bad. I meant those words when I said them that day, but the truth is I didn't really understand their true implication. We were just kids who fell in love and thought the security marriage offered seemed like a pretty solid way to go. But we also respected the institution and wouldn't have bothered getting hitched if we weren't planning on staying together. And even though we were young enough to stay out drinking all night, then go to work the next day without feeling even remotely hungover, my husband and I believed then that marriage was a lifelong commitment and that divorce wasn't really an option.

I know now how naive I was when I repeated my vows that day. Because I distinctly remember looking at our pastor and thinking, "How bad could times get?" Oh, if only I could go back and tell that dewy-skinned bride she would come to know very bad times. I'd tap my dapper new hubby's shoulder and gently whisper in his ear how our fairly naive sense of what fidelity meant would be more than tested. But the wiser, more-hardened-by-life me would also want that beaming, wide-eyed couple to know they'd get through the toughest of times, grow to appreciate their dedication to each other, and respect the sanctity of marriage more than they ever thought possible.

That may sound all glossy and pretty, but know that the word "divorce" has been uttered in our home many times. I whimpered it from the floor of our foyer, where I lay, deeply depressed, after losing a baby late in pregnancy. "How can we stay together when our lives have fallen so spectacularly to pieces?" I wondered, my grief so raw and out in the open, while his was hidden behind a strong exterior as he carried on with his life as if nothing had happened. The word "divorce" was paraded about again during the many months we spent apart due to career obligations. I figured, why keep trying so damn hard to keep our marriage alive if the universe was so intent on forcing us to be apart? There have been other tough times; we were eaten alive by the bad housing market, and we've fought bitterly over in-laws, finances, and, ironically, how we fight so differently from each other. We've been dug down deep in the trenches of raising four kids, working opposite schedules, and subsisting on no sleep, leftovers, and hope things would get just a tad easier.

Here's the beauty of surviving really awful, brutal, miserable, sometimes heartbreaking bad times: you realize that if you were going to split up, you would have done it already.

But here's the beauty of surviving really awful, brutal, miserable, sometimes heartbreaking bad times: you realize that if you were going to split up, you would have done it already. That if you managed to weather all that sh*t - and you've said the worst things to each other, you've thrown the "d" word out, you've cried and driven away, flown away, slept on the sofa, at a hotel, literally been sure you hated the other person for even being born - well, from there, you can exhale. And accept that the two of you are in this - really, truly, 100 percent in it. That there's no splitting up; there's only sticking together through it all. At this point, what we've built is so strong, the bad times don't have a chance to topple our foundation. I'll stop short at saying we laugh in the face of bad times, but you get my point.

It's hard to imagine that something else could happen in the future for us to even consider ending our marriage. Of course, before any of that other stuff happened, it was hard to imagine, too. Unfortunately, you just never know where life will take you, but that's something you're promising to deal with together when you say "I do." So, I'm sure in another decade, I'll be reflecting on the challenges my husband and I have faced. As I contemplate the many highs and lows we will have undoubtedly experienced, I can only hope he is right there by my side. And that we are as devoted to this union then as we are today. And that we have even more reverence for the vows we spoke to each other on our wedding day, all those years ago.
