33 Stunning Birth Photos That Will Convince You to Consider a Home Birth

Although most people likely conjure up an image of a chaotic hospital room when they think of childbirth, there are many moms who choose to have their babies at home, in their own space, surrounded by their family. And thankfully, some of them invite a birth photographer to capture the intimate event. Every year, Birth Becomes Her - an international community of birth photographers created by Monet Nicole and Jennifer Mason - holds a birth photography contest in which these amazing photographers from all over the world can submit their work to be judged within specific categories. Even though they can't all be winners, every single submission to the contest was absolutely stunning.

Ahead are some of our favorite out-of-hospital birth photos submitted to the contest for consideration in 2019.

So . . . Is Colton Hopping That Fence on The Bachelor Anytime Soon?

After all of the promos hinting at this week's Bachelor drama, it's no wonder many of us thought this would be the week of Colton Underwood's already infamous fence jump. But another week has gone by, and the scene still hasn't happened. With this week's focus on Colton second-guessing whether some of the contestants are only there to become the next Bachelorette, we're wondering what could be more dramatic than that?

Before this week's episode aired, though, host Chris Harrison actually revealed that the fence jump wouldn't be taking place yet. Harrison told Entertainment Tonight that there are still "a few episodes" left until the fence jump happens - so don't hold your breath, people.

With hometown dates on the horizon, it seems likely that the jump will happen during the same episode as the fantasy suites. If Colton is visiting the final four ladies' hometowns, he's probably not going to strand one person in order to jump a fence. During the fantasy suite episode, though, it's more likely that the ladies will be all in one place, which could lead to his attempted escape if there's more fighting.

And while Colton's escape definitely looks shocking for TV, it was pretty daring in real life, as well. In his conversation with ET, Harrison likened the former football player to "a gazelle being chased by a cheetah." He was determined to extract himself from the situation, doing whatever he had to in order to get a few moments alone.

"This is your life," Harrison told the outlet. "This is hopefully the woman of your dreams and somebody you're going to spend the rest of your life with. You should care about that. You should want to fight for that; you should want to leap over a fence for that. That's kind of where he was. He was, when push came to shove, he was ready to push back."

Hopefully Colton will find love at the end of this Bachelor season and all of the dramatic moments will be worth it. And if he does end up marrying someone from the show, they can always laugh about the fence jump at their wedding. (Or not.)

Ben Higgins Popped Up on The Bachelor, and Now We Just Want to Know If He's Single

Bachelor Nation has gotten to know Ben Higgins throughout different stages of his life. After a recent cameo on The Bachelor, we couldn't help but wonder what this handsome man has been up to. We know that the cofounder of Generous International LLC and podcast host at iHeartMedia is very focused on his career, but - forgive us for asking - is he single?

Ben started out pining for Kaitlyn Bristowe's heart during season 11 of The Bachelorette, and after being runner-up, he became the leading man on season 20 of The Bachelor. He proposed to Lauren Bushnell at the final rose ceremony, and their engagement seemed picture-perfect; the duo even landed their own show, Ben & Lauren: Happily Ever After?. Sadly, they broke up. Ben ended up on The Bachelor Winter Games, which he left early because he wasn't in the right mind space to be there. It's been a while since then, and it looks like his love life is headed in a positive direction.

First, let's rewind. Ben and Lauren broke up in May 2017, and we didn't get a reason as to why it didn't work out right away. Lauren expressed that she was hurt that Ben loved JoJo Fletcher, the runner-up on his season, even though he loved Lauren more. Pressure from the public eye also seemed to play a role in the split. Although Lauren had moved to Denver to be with Ben, the two ultimately couldn't make it work.

It appeared that Ben was ready to try dating again when he signed on to The Bachelor Winter Games. However, it didn't take long for him to realize that he shouldn't be there. He decided to leave and told Chris Harrison (in reference to his failed engagement), "As much as I've moved on, and I have, it still hurts." At that point, it seemed that Ben was not ready to date just yet, but things have changed since then.

In August 2018, Ben told Us Weekly, "I'm not dating but am interesting in dating, open to dating." Now for the million-dollar question: is Ben dating anyone? Yes! On the Jan. 14 episode of The Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous Podcast, when the two Bachelor alumni interviewed Colton Underwood, Ben confirmed there is someone special in his life.

"I was just telling someone the other day I started dating again," Ben said on the podcast. "This is big news, right? I am dating." Although we don't have the name of that person, we'll probably find out who she is soon. "I'm actually dating one person that we will talk about in a couple weeks on the podcast."

In the following week's podcast, Ben confirmed that his relationship is long-distance, and since there was some speculation, no, "she's not from Colton's season." We're not naming names (because we genuinely don't have them), but sleuths on Reddit have some ideas.

Back in 2017, Ben said that it wasn't totally out of the question that he would sign on as the Bachelor again. But it looks like he wouldn't do it at this point . . . for the best possible reason!

Why Did Ben Affleck Stop Playing Batman? He Says He Couldn't "Crack It"

I've gotta be honest: Ben Affleck seems remarkably chill about the fact he's no longer going to be playing Batman in the DC film franchise.

Despite appearing as the caped crusader in three recent movies - Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, and Justice League - Affleck is hanging up his batsuit to make way for a younger version of the character, who will take over the mantle in 2021's The Batman. Rather than making his retirement from the character a big to-do, Affleck retweeted the news of his departure in January, adding, "Excited for #TheBatman in Summer 2021 and to see @MattReevesLA vision come to life."

He continued his streak of taking it all in stride while sitting down with Jimmy Kimmel on Thursday to promote his next film, Triple Frontier. Naturally, the discussion led to Batman, and the 46-year-old star had a fairly simple explanation as for why he's stepping away.

"I tried to direct a version of it and worked with a really good screenwriter but just couldn't come up with a version - I couldn't crack it and so I thought it's time for someone else to take a shot at it," he said. "They got some really good people so I'm excited."

Watch him explain above, and keep your eyes peeled for a cameo from Jimmy Kimmel Live!'s Guillermo Rodriguez dressed up in an old-school Robin uniform as they retire Affleck's cape.

Reading a Book by a Nigerian Author Changed My Life - Here Are 6 Others That Might Change Yours

The first time I picked up a book by a Nigerian author, I was in college, sifting through my understanding of what it meant to be black. The book was Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and it's safe to say it changed my life.

The main character, Ifemelu, is forced to contend with her own blackness for the first time when she moves to America - a process that is foreign to someone whose race is thrust upon them the moment they enter the world. Before Adichie, I was well-versed in the imaginings of blackness through the American lens - both black and white. I understood the deafening cloud of oppression and the persistent struggle that weaves its way through every narrative. I understood that blackness, even when unmentioned, always lurked quietly in the background - easily called up when a new character crossed the page.

Americanah is different. Ifemelu is black but not in the way the American characters in the book are; not in the way that I am. Her blackness is more solid somehow, unburdened by quarter-white 23andMe test results and a torrid history that is danced around delicately. She looks at black American culture from a precarious distance and conceptualizes race in a way that is captivating because while she's aware of it, she isn't consumed by it. She learns what it means to be black over the course of the novel - because race isn't something she is forced to consider before she arrives in America.

It's the perspective I didn't know I needed as a young, queer black girl looking to understand myself.

It made me reexamine my understandings of race and its mere existence as a category. It's the perspective I didn't know I needed as a young, queer black girl looking to understand myself. From there I fell in love with Adichie and Nigerian authors as a whole (seriously, it's all I talk about on the 'gram). And while no two authors are the same, they all share the ability to create bodies of work where blackness isn't prescriptive but descriptive. Their worlds are often filled with black characters who are just living, which taught me that I could just live, too.

Although I have my own personal infatuation with Nigerian authors, they're part of a new generation of young Nigerian artists captivating readers worldwide. In early 2017, The New York Times reported the renaissance taking place on the continent and the ways their works challenge and address age-old taboos and traditions that went previously unaddressed. The result is vibrant and energetic prose - work that delights, haunts, and travels everywhere from the streets of Lagos to small, American towns.

Ahead, I've rounded up the contemporary Nigerian authors you need to read now - and which books to start with.

Badass Bo Peep Teams Up With Woody on a Rescue Misson in This Toy Story 4 Clip

Are you ready for a whole new Little Bo Peep, Toy Story fans? Because she's taking control in the fourth film, and we personally can't wait to see her in action. Fortunately, we got a little taste of what she'll be like courtesy of Good Morning America on Friday.

A few weeks after Disney revealed her badass makeover (above), the voice of Bo Peep, Annie Potts, stopped by GMA to share a new clip from Toy Story 4 featuring her character. In it, we see Bo Peep and Woody teaming up with the rest of the toys - Buzz, Jessie, the Barbies, Slinky, and more - to try to get a bedroom window open so they can escape and rescue a toy stranded outside in a rain-filled gutter. It's a tense, exciting scene, but it also shows Bo in her flouncy dress and bonnet - so, what's the deal?

According to Potts, the scene is actually a flashback to before her character decided to ditch her frilly skirt for some practical pants and a pretty awesome cape. "Bo's got some 'tude now," Potts joked.

Although Bo appears in the previous films as the pretty, soft-spoken, and a little bit sarcastic toy who Woody has a big ol' crush on in Andy's bedroom, we're excited to see her break out of her casing for the fourth installment of the Disney Pixar franchise. According to a press release celebrating Potts's addition to the cast, the studio wrote that she and Woody haven't seen each other "in years," and that Bo has become "chipped and faded" over time.

"Bo's strength and sarcasm always belied her delicate porcelain exterior, and it turns out she's an adventure-seeking free spirit who feels right at home on the road. When she and Woody are reunited under unlikely circumstances, they realize they've grown worlds apart when it comes to life as a toy."

It will be interesting to see how she fits into Woody's new world, especially since Toy Story 4 was originally pitched as a romantic comedy featuring the two before evolving into a story that involves Tony Hale's new character, Forky.

Alicia Keys May Be Able to Simultaneously Play 2 Pianos, but Ellen DeGeneres Can Do THIS

Oh, you thought Alicia Keys simultaneously playing two pianos was impressive? Ellen DeGeneres recently revealed her "hidden talent," and it definitely surpasses that memorable 2019 Grammy Awards moment. "It's impressive - and I wasn't gonna bring this up - but when she did it, it reminded me I used to do that trick in bars growing up," DeGeneres said. The talk-show host then proceeded to play a clip of herself playing two pianos with all four limbs at once. Who knew? No matter how silly the award show spoof may be, chances are it'll still get a chuckle out of you. Watch it above.

10 Inspiring Game of Thrones Quotes That You Need This Week (and Every Week)

Sure, the battles in Game of Thrones are undeniably epic, but nothing is quite as epic as the words exchanged between our favorite Westeros residents. From hilarious quips to profound statements, the show knows how to deliver some serious food for thought - especially when those quotes come directly from George R. R. Martin's books. Jordan Peele Ushers Us to a New Dimension in the Spooky Teaser For The Twilight Zone

When CBS announced the brand-new reboot of The Twilight Zone quite some time ago, the network had already attached Jordan Peele as an executive producer. But thanks to the new ad that dropped during the Super Bowl, we've been able to catch a glimpse of the horror auteur in his other role for the series: as the even-keeled host of the show itself, just like the original's Rod Serling. The new teaser is appropriately creepy, setting up the strange multiverse we've come to expect from the mysterious show. Did the Super Bowl really happen, or was it just a figment of our imaginations?! We'll find out when the reboot drops on April 1. In the meantime, you can check out the star-packed cast and scour the teaser for Easter eggs.

Meghan Trainor’s Bizarre Album Press Release Made My Eyes Pop All the Way Out of My Skull

I was recently just minding my own business when I logged onto Twitter and saw that Meghan Trainor was trending. I wondered, "Maybe she dropped a new song that people are talking about?" I also thought perhaps she and husband Daryl Sabara made some sort of special announcement. But nope. I quickly realized that's not at all why Trainor was trending, and I was far from prepared to find out the real reason why the Twitter sphere was buzzing about the artist.

Turns out, it had less to do with the actual singer and more to do with Epic Records's press release for her latest album, The Love Train. A user shared screenshots of the emailed release, and it's, uh, wild. Between describing the "hot newlywed sex" Trainor sings about one of her songs and legitimately including the phrase "smashing bae's junk to smithereens" (an expression - let's not forget - that was actually popularized by the entertainment site Bossip), people are truly taken aback by the erotic email.

At one point, the release even says, "We know, it's a little bit #Vomworthy, but also, am I chopping onions right now or are those tears rolling down my face? I'm not crying, you're crying." Look, I can't make this up. I don't know whether to keep laughing (like I have been the past 20 minutes) and commend whoever wrote this for their passion or smash my phone "to smithereens" to keep from ever having to come across anything like that again. While I decide which one to do, check out some of the most hilarious reactions to the insane email!

Derek Shepherd's Fourth Sister, Kate, Is Joining Grey's Anatomy - Here's Who's Playing Her!

Even though it feels like we're constantly saying goodbye to cast members on Grey's Anatomy, at least the show keeps finding ways of bringing new and exciting characters on board. Case in point: Derek Shepherd's fourth sister, Kathleen Shepherd, who will be joining the long-running ABC medical drama before you know it!

We've known about the arrival of Kathleen (aka Kate) since early February, but now we also know who's going to be playing her: Amy Acker. Deadline reports that the Gifted actress has signed on for a guest-starring role in the upcoming Amelia-centric episode. If you don't watch Fox's The Gifted, then you likely recognize Acker from her roles in shows like Person of Interest, MacGyver, and Suits. Although the exact date for the episode that she's going to appear in has yet to be announced, there are a few other details regarding Kathleen's arrival to obsess over in the meantime.

As a reminder, her existence was first mentioned way back in season three, and since then, we've met the other members of the Shepherd clan: Amelia (Caterina Scorsone), Liz (Neve Campbell), and Nancy (Embeth Davidtz). Like the rest of her family, Kathleen is also a doctor (she's a psychiatrist, to be specific).

Sadly, there aren't that many other details about the new character just yet, but hopefully more information about her - and why she's visiting Seattle - will start rolling in once ABC shares the date of the Amelia-focused episode.

If It Wasn't For Princess Margaret, You Probably Wouldn't Be Able to Read Your Horoscope Today

Did you know that the horoscope you read every day in a newspaper, magazine, or on your favorite website has a fascinating connection to Princess Margaret? Yes, the Princess Margaret - younger sister to Queen Elizabeth II, she of biting British wit, headline-making romances, and extravagant morning routines. As crazy as it may sound, Margaret is pretty much the sole reason that sun sign horoscopes exist. You're probably wondering how the hell this is possible, right? In his inventive new biography, Ninety-Nine Glimpses of Princess Margaret, journalist Craig Brown details how daily and weekly horoscope columns came to be, thanks to one astrologer and one newborn princess. And as a huge fan of both astrology and the British royal family, my mind was basically blown.

HRH Princess Margaret Rose was born on Aug. 21, 1930 to the then-Duke and Duchess of York, who just a few years later would ascend the throne and become King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. Margaret was fourth in the line of succession when she was born, and in the tradition of royal baby births, her introduction into the world was marked by gun salutes, official portraits, and of course, tons of press. In London, Sunday Express editor John Gordon, as author Craig Brown wrote, was "struggling to come up with a fresh angle on the news of another royal birth." He came up with the idea to ask Cheiro, a famous astrologer and palmist during that time, to make a prediction about what might unfold during the newborn princess's life. Gordon reached out to Cheiro - whose real name was William John Warner - but he was busy, and instead the assignment was taken on by Cheiro's assistant, a man named R.H. Naylor.

Naylor's article, titled "What the Stars Foretell For the New Princess," was printed in the Express the following Sunday, four days after Margaret was born. The idea was so new that the introduction included an explanation:

"Everybody is interested in the future. Can it be told by the stars? Readers of the Sunday Express will be able to judge for themselves after reading the following article, which tells you just what is expected to happen during the remainder of the month. Mr. Naylor has included in the article an extremely interesting horoscope - an observation of the heavens at the hour of a person's birth."

According to Ninety-Nine Glimpses, the piece predicted that Margaret would have "an eventful life" (OK, obviously) and that "events of tremendous importance to the royal family and the nation" would occur around the time Margaret turned seven. Naylor's prediction story was a huge success, and John Gordon ended up commissioning him to write more general forecasts to be printed over the next few months. One of Naylor's most notable prophecies was that "a British aircraft will be in danger between Oct. 8 and 15." While he didn't hit it on the nose, he was right: on Oct. 5, 1930, an R101 airship crashed in France, killing 48 people. This prediction sent Naylor's fame skyrocketing, and soon enough, Gordon offered R.H. Naylor a weekly column in the Sunday Express making predictions for all readers according to their birthdays. It was called "Your Stars."

You Have to See Reese Witherspoon Enthusiastically Dancing With the Harlem Globetrotters

Reese Witherspoon should have known that she wouldn't be able to sit quietly through a Harlem Globetrotters game without being coerced into getting involved. The actress sat courtside on the weekend, and she quickly caught the attention of the team. In addition to getting down in her seat when Bull Bullard stole her phone to record a video, Reese was also dragged onto the court by Ant Atkinson for another, more public, dance break. The actress was a great sport, happily playing along and dancing for the assembled crowds. But it didn't end there: Reese also shared some videos on her Instagram stories that showed a further bit of audience participation from her family. Reese's husband, Jim Toth, was called upon to slow-dance with his wife, in celebration of his first visit to a Globetrotters' game, and he seemed all to happy to oblige. Take a closer look at Reese's cute dance moments ahead, along with a few of her sweet snaps from the visit.

Oh No! Netflix Just Canceled Jessica Jones and The Punisher

Be sure to pour one out for the citizens of Hell's Kitchen today: Netflix has officially canceled Marvel's Jessica Jones along with another Marvel series that remained on the platform, The Punisher. The news was announced on Feb. 18 in a statement from Netflix. "Marvel's The Punisher will not return for a third season on Netflix," the streaming giant wrote. "Showrunner Steve Lightfoot, the terrific crew, and exceptional cast including star Jon Bernthal, delivered an acclaimed and compelling series for fans, and we are proud to showcase their work on Netflix for years to come."

Netflix added that the third season of Jessica Jones, which was just announced last Spring, will be the show's final one. "We are grateful to showrunner Melissa Rosenberg, star Krysten Ritter and the entire cast and crew, for three incredible seasons of this groundbreaking series, which was recognized by the Peabody Awards among many others. We are grateful to Marvel for five years of our fruitful partnership and thank the passionate fans who have followed these series from the beginning."

The first season of Jessica Jones debuted on Netflix in late 2015, and the final season has yet to air. The Punisher's second season aired back in January. These cancellations of both shows come just months after Netflix axed Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Daredevil, and their removal marks the end of Netflix's partnership with Marvel TV.

Marvel later confirmed the news in an open letter to viewers on Marvel.com. "On behalf of everyone at Marvel Television, we couldn't be more proud or more grateful to our audience," wrote Jeph Loeb, head of Marvel TV. "Our Network partner may have decided they no longer want to continue telling the tales of these great characters . . . but you know Marvel better than that. As Matthew Murdock's Dad once said, 'The measure of a man is not how he gets knocked to the mat, it's how he gets back up.'" He added, "To be continued!"

How Did Princess Margaret Die? The Depressing End to an Unconventional Royal Life

Image Source: Getty / ullstein bild Dtl.

The second season of Netflix's hit series The Crown shed lots of light on Queen Elizabeth II's hapless younger sister, Princess Margaret. From her dramatic love life and nude photo scandal to her penchant for drinking and smoking, it's been made abundantly clear what most royal family aficionados knew all along: Margaret was never meant to blend in. She was always going to stand out.

Margaret was everything you'd expect a spare heir to be; much like Prince Harry and Princess Charlotte after her, she was irresistibly charming, attention-seeking, extroverted, and much more rebellious than her older sister - after all, if you don't bear the direct responsibility of one day taking the throne, you have less pressure put on you to be perfect. Margaret was only 22 when her sister became queen, and while her duties mostly consisted of representing the family on royal tours of Jamaica, Japan, Australia, and the US, she also had a vested interest in welfare charities, music, and the ballet.

After failed engagements, one divorce, two children, and a handful of extramarital affairs, Princess Margaret's royal reputation wasn't one to be desired. Throughout her later life, her health began to severely decline and the glamorous jet-set lifestyle she was known for faded away; a cigarette smoker since 15, Margaret had part of her left lung removed in 1985 (an operation similar to the one her father, King George VI, underwent three decades earlier) - and though she was able to kick the habit some years later, she continued to drink heavily. The '90s brought a bout with pneumonia, a mild stroke, and a bathroom incident - during which her feet were burned from scalding-hot bathwater - that resulted in loss of mobility to her feet.

By the early 2000s, Margaret needed help walking (and would sometimes use a wheelchair), and in January and March 2001, she suffered more strokes that inhibited her vision and paralyzed her left side. By the end of that year, Margaret would make only two official public appearances; one in August for the 101st birthday party of the Queen Mother and one in December to celebrate her aunt Princess Alice's 100th birthday.

Margaret was everything you'd expect a spare heir to be; she was irresistibly charming, attention-seeking, extroverted, and much more rebellious than her older sister.

On Feb. 9, 2002, Princess Margaret died at the King Edward VII Hospital in London after suffering another stroke. She was 71. Her sister, Queen Elizabeth II, announced the news "with great sadness" in a statement from Buckingham Palace. A private service for family and friends was held six days later, on the 50th anniversary of her beloved father's own funeral. Margaret was cremated - a rarity for royals - and her ashes were placed in the tomb with her parents, King George VI and the Queen Mother (her mother died just seven weeks after Margaret), at Windsor Castle. In April 2002, a state memorial service was held for Margaret at Westminster Abbey. And like the unconventional badass that she was, Margaret even wrote her own epitaph, which was carved on a memorial stone.

We thank thee Lord who by thy spirit doth our faith restore
When we with worldly things commune & prayerless close our door
We lose our precious gift divine to worship and adore
Then thou our Saviour, fill our hearts to love thee evermore

As far as her legacy goes, royal biographers have posited that Margaret paved the way for future members of the family to come out on the other side after divorce. Without her public split from Earl of Snowdon in 1978 - and bearing the brunt of bad press and criticism that came with it - it may not have been as easy for her niece, Princess Anne, and nephews Charles and Andrew to go through with their own divorces (from Captain Mark Phillips, Princess Diana, and Sarah, Duchess of York, respectively).

Get Yourself a Slice of Cheesecake Because a Golden Girls-Themed Cruise Is Coming!

Gather your favorite gal pals and get ready for a sweet vacation! Next year, a Golden Girls-themed cruise will allow fans to sail the seas while reveling in an atmosphere reminiscent of the 1985 classic. The cruise - hosted by Minneapolis-based party promoters Flip Phone Events - will begin on Feb. 24, 2020, and leave from Miami before making stops at Key West and Cozumel, Mexico. It will then return on Feb. 29. A cabin will reportedly cost around $1,000 per guest and passengers will get to enjoy a "One Night in St. Olaf" dance party as well as a karaoke party.

Flip Phone Events has previously hosted gatherings based on the show and figured it was time to take things to another level with a cruise. "We are avid cruisers and die-hard Golden Girls fans," Flip Phone co-owner Chad Kampe told outlet Hornet. "After two successful Golden Girls bar crawls in Minneapolis - where we had over 1,100 people each time - I knew I wanted to create a new and unique experience for Golden Girls fans." Kampe then described even more of the activities people can expect, including a sail-away party, a Golden Girls trivia session, and a costume contest.

The sitcom - which took place in Miami - ended in 1992, but it still has a dedicated fan base that can never get enough of Dorothy (Bea Arthur), Blanche (Rue McClanahan), Rose (Betty White), and Sophia (Estelle Getty). Be sure to read more about the cruise and start saving up now if you're hoping to ride the Golden Girls wave in 2020.

The Way The Bachelor Handled Caelynn's Story Is Just the Latest Example of a Disturbing Trend

When you get down to it, The Bachelor hasn't changed much from the very first season. The show follows a man as he dates about two dozen women (or a woman and her suitors, in the case of The Bachelorette). The dates are extravagant, the drama is over-the-top, and the tears are flowing. That being said, longtime watchers of the show may have noticed gradual changes over the years. One in particular sticks out and has been leaving me with an unsettled feeling: the show has a way of using tragic stories as currency. Having a heartbreaking story to share seems to have become a positive on the casting side, as if it gives the producers something to capitalize on.

Before I get into it, this is in no way criticizing the men and women who have shown their bravery by sharing their stories on national television. This is to point out the way production makes having a tragic story a mere check on a Bachelor résumé.

When a contestant shares a horrible event they've gone through, it's almost guaranteed to make the cut in an episode. It's as if the show, which has faced criticism for its unconventional approach to love, sees it as an opportunity to showcase depth. And the trend is apparent now more than ever. The problem with highlighting these situations over and over again is that they become too heavily part of the contestant's identity - that one thing is how we end up "knowing" them. She's no longer the woman from this state with a thriving career in this field; she's the one who suffered this tragedy. And just like how the show has latched on to Colton Underwood's virginity, these things become repeated points.

When we met Emily Maynard on season 15 of The Bachelor - before she became the leading lady on The Bachelorette - it didn't take long for her story to come out and overshadow every other part of her personality. Her late fiancé, Ricky Hendrick, a NASCAR driver, passed away in a plane crash. Days afterward, she found out she was pregnant with her daughter, Ricki. The tragedy followed her through the seasons and was constantly shown as a reminder to reviewers, as if there was a reason for it to be reiterated that often.

Rewind to season 13 of The Bachelorette when Rachel Lindsay started her journey to find the love of her life. On the first episode of the season, we were introduced to prosecutor Josiah Graham . . . and his life-shattering story. His late brother, Sam, was bullied when he was a kid for being overweight. Sam hung himself in their family's backyard, and a 7-year-old Josiah cut him down from the tree. (During his segment, producers went so far as to go to his childhood backyard and film that tree.) Fast-forward to later in the episode when Josiah was suddenly made out to be an overly confident villain. It was sh*tty editing and not the way such a personal, emotional story should have been shared.

In the current season of The Bachelor, Caelynn Miller-Keyes opened up to Colton, bravely sharing the sexual assault she went through in college. This was a huge moment for The Bachelor, and we should all applaud Caelynn for her willingness to open up. This wasn't the first time she had done so; being an advocate for sexual assault was a title she wore in the pageant world. "As a survivor, she is a dedicated advocate for sexual assault prevention by speaking to high school and college students about the importance of consent," her pageant bio reads.

Just like how production had to have known about her preshow feud with former roommate Hannah Brown, it's hard to believe they didn't think her sexual assault experience would make good screen time. Caelynn and Colton's connection seems genuine, so I personally think she would have told him (and viewers) about that horrible night regardless of whether or not she felt she had to.

Another one of Colton's contenders, Demi Burnett, called her mother for the first time since she got released from prison . . . with Colton by her side. The women don't have access to cell phones, televisions, internet, or even music, so she had to have gotten permission to make the call. That same episode, Demi told Colton she was falling in love with him. He wasn't feeling the same way and sent her home. Was it really necessary to include such a big moment in Demi's life when she was going to be sent home anyway? It doesn't sit well with me that salacious television takes precedent over treating contestants like human beings with feelings.

Contestants shouldn't be used for what "shocking" information they can bring to a show. They should be chosen based on their compatibility with the Bachelor. We know contestants go through multiple rounds of interviews before ever stepping foot in front of the camera, so it would be naive to think personal tragic situations aren't vetted beforehand.

On the flip side, imagine being sent home on The Bachelor for not having a tragic story to share; that appeared to be what happened when Colton said goodbye to Caitlin Clemmens. It's no secret that things move at least three times faster on The Bachelor than they might in a typical relationship. If you don't open up within the first few weeks, you'll have a tougher time building a connection to match others, and Caitlin just didn't have anything to open up about. "I'm not really sure what to, like, open up about other than the fact that, like, my life has been, like, good," she said during some one-on-one time.

In the same conversation, Colton sent her home, saying he didn't feel a spark. He told the cameras: "Tonight, I'm looking for developing these relationships on a deeper level, and as much as I wanted tonight to grow and progress in my relationship with Caitlin, I just didn't feel it." Granted, it was only the third episode. But should someone be sent home because they don't have something vulnerable to say? Is it a bad thing that they don't have a life-altering event to reveal? It was a strange situation and one that left Bachelor Nation scratching their heads.

Bizarre "tragedies" count too for screen time. Remember Annaliese Puccini from Arie Luyendyk Jr.'s season? As a race-car driver, the Bachelor took some women on a group date to do an adult version of bumper cars. Annaliese broke down crying and explained that she went through a bumper car trauma as a kid. Her car got stuck at the center of the rink, and other kids were ramming her car from all angles. Some people found the story completely laughable, while others said you should never make fun of someone else's trauma story. Either way, producers must have thought it made good television. Although Annaliese's story doesn't fall in the same category as Josiah's, Emily's, or Caelynn's stories, it was a trauma to her.

Is saying The Bachelor exploits contestants' deepest traumas too extreme? Maybe, but maybe not. I'm not saying these stories shouldn't be aired. I'm saying these contestants have so much more to offer, but it feels like production is restricting that for the sake of a heart-wrenching storyline. While we should be applauding contestants for being vulnerable, we should also question why those are some of the longest and most publicized one-on-one conversations. We understand reality television needs the drama, but should individuals' personal horror stories be sacrificed in the process?

Meghan Markle's $35 H&M Dress Was the Perfect Addition to Her Maternity Wardrobe

Fresh from her bright and beautiful appearance with Prince Harry in Birkenhead earlier in the week, Meghan Markle stepped out solo on Wednesday as she made a visit to animal welfare charity Mayhew, one of the charities she has recently been made patron of. It's the first of two royal engagements for Meghan today; later, she will join Prince Harry for a visit to the Royal Albert Hall, where they will attend the premiere of Cirque du Soleil's "Totem," in support of Harry's charity Sentebale.

For her first outing of the day, Meghan teamed high end with a bargain buy, wearing a classic Armani coat over a knit dress from H&M's maternity range, Mama. It makes sense that the duchess is looking to more affordable brands when it comes to her pregnancy purchases: after all, with the royal baby due in just a few months, she won't need this dress for long. Slingback pumps and a Stella McCartney bag finished the neutral-hued look. Keep reading to see it for yourself and to shop that dress.

17 Models Bringing Their Black Girl Magic to the Fashion Week Runways

More black models walked the Fashion Week runways in 2018 than ever before. Almost 40 percent of the models in the Fall 2018 shows were models of color, almost double the percentage reported in 2015. Black models are making strides that in years past would have never seemed possible: opening and closing some of the biggest shows, appearing in groundbreaking campaigns, and splashing the covers of some of the biggest magazines. These models are showing what the power of a little melanin and a lot of strength can do for the fashion industry.

There is still a long way to go for inclusion on the runway. It's not often you see someone who is differently abled, trans, or any size that would qualify as plus-size walking the catwalk. But tides are shifting in the world of fashion, and it's cause for celebration. Read ahead for some of the black models who are changing the catwalk one step at a time.

Shay Mitchell Can Paddle Away in Her Kayak, but We Won't Forget the Plunge on That Swimsuit

Shay Mitchell embarked on yet another "Shaycation," this time to islands in the Philippines, and for that, she packed some solid swimwear. The You actress shared photos of herself kayaking through Big Lagoon with a friend, giving us a peek at her revealing one-piece from all angles. It's a good thing, too; otherwise we wouldn't have noticed the burnt-red design's cheeky fit and plunging halter neckline, which flattered Shay's curves and long legs. She styled her swimsuit with sunglasses, earrings, and a striped headband, proving it's possible to still accessorize when you're getting active. I'm on Edge Just LOOKING at Kim Kardashian in This Vintage Thierry Mugler Cutout Dress

Kim Kardashian has worn many a naked dress in her day, but the vintage gown she sported at the Hollywood Beauty Awards on Feb. 17 might be among one of her most revealing looks yet. The reality star and beauty mogul appeared at the event wearing a busty black Thierry Mugler dress with a thigh-high slit, a wraparound neck, and two large cutouts in the upper torso area. The velvet panel of the dress's upper area featured dangerously small straps, and I can't help but be filled with anxiety at the thought of making one wrong move in this dress and very quickly crossing over into wardrobe malfunction territory. Thankfully, Kim was able to pull the look off without any issues in front of the cameras.

Read ahead to see more photos of her daring dress from all angles.

Kate Middleton's Classic Green Dress Hides a Surprise When You See It From the Side

A busy month of royal engagements continued for the Duchess of Cambridge on Tuesday as she took a trip to Forest Hill in south London to attend the launch of Family Line, a confidential helpline for families from the charity Family Action. Stepping out on a crisp Winter day, Kate chose one of her signature looks, a smart long-sleeved dress. Her deep green design was from Beulah London, and she accessorized with a pair of deep green suede heels, an L.K. Bennett clutch bag, and a belt with a gold buckle. At a quick glance, this dress looked like a classic we've seen Kate wear so many times in the past, but it was hiding an extra little detail. The skirt was actually split, fastened with dozens of covered buttons set off-center on the skirt, putting a fun and modern twist on the look.

This is the duchess's third royal engagement in London this month. She first took a trip to a community garden, where she made pizzas and bird boxes with a group of cute kids. The duchess then made a visit to the Royal Opera House, where she saw costumes and met members of the wardrobe department. This time around, she met members of the Family Line team, as well as families who've benefited from their services. Take a closer look at her visit ahead, and see that cozy Winter outfit in much more detail.

3 Editors, 3 Different Styles: These $37 Jeans Are So Flattering

Flattering trousers? They're an enigma. There's a reason we're all so obsessed with The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, after all. That's why I audibly gasped when I slipped on these Wide-Leg High-Waisted Crop Pants ($37, originally $50). I got a preview of the latest POPSUGAR at Kohl's collection drop, and this design immediately called my name.

The flattering cut and bold red hue made these pants a standout piece, so I called upon two of my fellow editors to try them on as well. Spoiler alert: they love them too. We broke down exactly why this piece is our current favorite (with photos for proof, of course). They come in sizes 0-18, so a wide variety of body types can give these trousers a try. Read on to see how they look on all of us, then consider a pair for yourself.

Forget the Flowers! Kylie Jenner's $65 Valentine's Day Dress Is All I'm Thinking About

Valentine's Day was not a small affair in Kylie Jenner's household this year. Kylie's boyfriend, Travis Scott, treated her (and their daughter Stormi) to a lavish heart-shaped rose tunnel, adorned with candles and neon lights. You'd think the showstopping display would steal all the attention, but naturally, Kylie found a dress that had me saying, "What flowers?"

Just days after Kylie stepped out in a stunning floor-length scarlet gown, she wore another fiery shade for the romantic holiday. She opted for a fitted red White Fox minidress, and guess what? It's only $65! Now that's a price I can truly love. Ahead, see Kylie's exact dress, and keep reading to shop similar styles for yourself.

I Wore the Jeans All the Supermodels Have Been Wearing to Fashion Week

The trendiest denim of 2019 looks great on the supermodels, but I found myself wondering how easy it would be to pull off leopard print and a baggy boyfriend fit IRL. Would cargos make my abs look like Emily Ratajkowski's? I wanted to know. (Spoiler: not really.) But when I took the freshest crop of styles for a whirl during Fashion Week this season, I did discover a few flattering ways to wear them anyway.

The trends in question? Colored denim, animal pattern, a baggy slouch, ultra-flares (think Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen in the early 2000s), and cargos, aka carpenter pants. Now, before I give you the background on my approach to the challenge, there are a few things you should know. Firstly, everyone's body type is different. Yes, I know you're well aware. But what I'm trying to say is I'm 5'1" and petite, but with athletic legs and a booty, so the jeans I slipped into might look totally different on you than they do on me.

But I made it my mission to construct outfits that I could envision on a wide range of figures. I aimed for universally flattering proportions, crafting looks that are effortless and not too involved, but still feel modern. I incorporated a tie-dye top, a rainbow puffer, and even seashell jewelry, since I wanted to keep things on trend. My "Limited Too" combination with bell bottoms might've felt basic in 2004, but now it's a throwback statement we're seeing all over the streets.

While it's easy to stick to your favorite skinnies or mom jeans and throw on a cardigan, I invite you to embrace these five new silhouettes with me and take my tips for pulling them off. I can't promise you'll instantly feel like a supermodel when you look in the mirror, but I can promise you the confidence of that girl, the one who has updated her wardrobe for the new year and is damn proud of it.
