Confused About Camp? Here's What This Year's Met Gala Theme Actually Means
Image Source: Getty / Neilson Barnard
The 2019 Met Gala, fashion's biggest night of the year, will be ostentatious, flamboyant, and everything else the theme demands. It is camp, after all. The theme is "Camp: Notes on Fashion," based on Susan Sontag's 1964 essay "Notes on 'Camp.'" And on a night that already promises to deliver the most incredible fashion you could wish for, we have high hopes for what we might see.
It's about going over the top just enough to make a statement but not so over the top that you've jumped into the kitschy category.
So what is camp, really? In Sontag's essay, she provides 58 definitions for camp. Among them is "The hallmark of Camp is the spirit of extravagance. Camp is a woman walking around in a dress made of three million feathers." And for a gala and collection that's underwritten by Gucci, a fashion house that has built its success in recent years on being over the top yet cool, camp makes complete sense.
Alessandro Michele, Gucci's creative director and one of the cochairs of the 2019 Met Gala, told Vogue that Sontag's essay "perfectly expresses what camp truly means to me: the unique ability of combining high art and pop culture."
While at the helm of Gucci, Michele has sent models down the runway carrying mannequin heads and toed the line of androgyny with his menswear and womenswear, all hallmarks of the over-the-top nature of camp itself. And Gucci's resident poster boy Harry Styles is fittingly also cochairing the Met Gala. The musician is well-known for not just wearing Gucci's flashy suits with sparkles and bell bottoms but all other sorts of prints and ruffles.

Andrew Bolton, the curator in charge of the Costume Institute, told Vogue that camp "has become increasingly more mainstream in its pluralities - political camp, queer camp, Pop camp, the conflation of high and low, the idea that there is no such thing as originality." Camp can possibly be traced back to the French term se camper, which means to pose exaggeratedly.
It evolved into taking on a meaning of being effeminate, when noted cross-dresser Frederick Park wrote a letter and referred to his "campish undertakings." Camp grew to become the "love of the unnatural," Sontag wrote in the Partisan Review, and now it encompasses everything flashy, ironic, and cool - but not cheesy or kitschy.
Bolton pointed out to The New York Times that "Camp really means the unique ability of combining high art and pop culture," rather than something frivolous that can be ignored. It all boils down to one word for Bolton: surplus. It's about going over the top just enough to make a statement but not so over the top that you've jumped into the kitschy category.
We think this could translate into oversize flared pants (like Styles frequently wore on tour last year), sequins and sparkles from head to toe (like Lady Gaga, another of the event's cochairs, has been known to wear), or even a complete look with each piece labeled, à la Off-White by Virgil Abloh. After all, another of Sontag's definitions of camp is: "Camp sees everything in quotation marks. It's not a lamp, but a 'lamp'; not a woman, but a 'woman.'"
We'll have to wait until May 6 to see what the cochairs (Vogue Editor in Chief Anna Wintour, Michele, Styles, Lady Gaga, and tennis star Serena Williams) and the rest of the guests will wear. We can bet that at least a fair few will follow the theme and do camp its flashy and flamboyant due diligence.

Meet the Star-Studded Cast of Dolly Parton's Netflix Series
Dolly Parton is as busy as ever! The legendary country singer-songwriter, who was most recently honored at the Grammys with a star-studded tribute, is hard at work on her next project. Heartstrings, an anthology series, is set to debut on Netflix later in 2019. The concept of the show is to highlight some of Parton's most iconic songs, telling standalone stories with different settings and characters to underline the themes of each song. Parton is executive producing the series and is set to appear in each episode in some capacity as well, and she's assembled a huge cast of stars to tell each of the eight stories. We've rounded up some of the biggest names attached to the project, plus a few details that we know so far about who they're playing - click through our gallery below!
Olivia Munn Reflects on Accusing Brett Ratner of Sexual Harassment in the Pre-#MeToo Era
Women in politics and Hollywood came together to talk about gender equality, the 2020 election, and sexual abuse om Feb. 19, and the conversation that followed was equal parts uplifting and infuriating. CNN host and journalist Lisa Ling moderated a panel with actors Olivia Munn, Amber Tamblyn, and Melissa Fumero, and Cook County State Attorney Kim Foxx - who is making headlines for going after R. Kelly - in a candid, moving discussion.
The event was hosted by EMILY's List, an organization that helps elect Democratic, pro-choice women, and drew guests including Felicity Huffman and California Rep. Maxine Waters.
52 Pictures That Will Make You Realize You Have a Big Crush on Chadwick Boseman
Chadwick Boseman is finally getting the attention he so deserves. He's been in handfuls of TV shows since the early 2000s, and the South Carolina-born star broke out playing Jackie Robinson in 2013's 42. Since then, he's acted opposite Kevin Costner and portrayed the legendary James Brown, but his latest role is the biggest deal of all: Black Panther. Boseman, who is unbelievably 41 years old, made his debut as the superhero in Captain America: Civil War, which was really just an introduction before his upcoming stand-alone film. Ahead, take a look at some of Chadwick's sexiest moments.
4 Major Plot Points the Big Little Lies Stars Have Revealed About Season 2
It's safe to say that we're more than a little excited about the big return of Big Little Lies. With intriguing new characters (hello, Meryl Streep!) and insane new drama, the second season of the hit HBO show has sparked tons of speculation - especially since this season will be continuing the story of Liane Moriarty's original novel (which means we have no idea what will happen next!). Moriarty did pen the new story that season two will be based on, so you can rest assured that it is just as juicy. She and the Monterey mom-squad are divulging as little information as possible, but here's what we've gathered so far about what we can expect when the latest season premieres in June.
1. We'll Learn a Lot More About Bonnie
If you've been dying to know more about Bonnie (who's played by Zoë Kravitz), then you're in luck. Bonnie's character development was explored much more in Moriarty's novel than it was on season one, detailing her complicated childhood history. When Moriarty first spoke about her ideas for the second season, she said that developing the untold story of Monterey's hippest mom was one of her first instincts. "The obvious thing is, first of all, I think we could bring in more of Bonnie's story from the book," she told The Sydney Morning Herald.
Kravitz also mentioned that she's glad to see Bonnie getting a larger role. "Now [we're] revealing who she is, why she is the way she is, and why she did what she did," she told Refinery29. "I don't think you will be disappointed." One thing we know for sure: we're going to meet Bonnie's parents. Though they unfortunately won't be played by Kravitz's real-life parents, Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet, we'll instead get to see Martin Donovan from Weeds and newcomer Crystal Fox take on the roles of Martin and Elizabeth Howard.
2. Renata Gets Welcomed Into the Fold
It seems that trouble-making mom Renata (played by Laura Dern) will finally put aside her differences with the other Monterey mothers and join their girl gang after what went down at the end of season one. As Laura Dern said, it's "thrilling for Renata to have any friends," since the usually abrasive mom will finally get a chance to open up for once. Reese Witherspoon added that it's "really cute" to see Renata bonding with the other ladies, breaking down the divide between the working moms and stay-at-home moms. "Dern's character is so excited that she has girlfriends!" she said. "And she wants to hang out and drink wine." Don't we all?
3. Perry Will Return
Wait just a second - isn't Perry dead? Though Alexander Skarsgard's character, Perry Wright, seemingly died at the end of season one, the actor was playfully cryptic when asked on the Golden Globe Awards red carpet if he'll return for the series' second season. "I don't even know if I'm really dead or not," he said. "I feel OK right now but we'll see." Skarsgard confirmed the rumors that he appeared on set for season two on The Tonight Show, but he was tight-lipped about whether his character appears as a flashback in the second season or even at all. "I don't want to get in trouble," he told host Jimmy Fallon. "I was on set, yes. But I can't disclose what I did on set." It sounds like we haven't seen the last of Celeste's despicable husband.
4. Celeste and Her Mother-in-Law Get Close
If you haven't already heard (where have you been?), Meryl Streep is taking on the role of Mary Louise, mother of Perry and mother-in-law of Nicole Kidman's Celeste, who comes to Monterey looking for answers about her son's death. Though it looks like Mary Louise and Witherspoon's Madeline will have a major showdown involving an ice cream cone, she and Celeste might actually bond despite the tension involving Perry's death. During the show's panel at the 2019 Winter Television Critics Association press tour, Streep kept pretty quiet about the dynamic between Mary Louise and Celeste, but when Kidman turned to her and said, "You love me," Streep agreed. "I do love you and I do love her," she said. "And that's the only thing I'll tell you."
While Meghan Has Her Baby Shower, Prince Harry's Getting in Some Last Minute "Parenting" Practice
A lot of British kids are currently enjoying half term, an extra week's break in the middle of the school semester. For many, this extra "holiday" is a chance for fun, but it can put a huge strain on the country's poorest families, who rely on the activities and meals that schools provide each day. On Tuesday, Prince Harry had an opportunity to find out more about Fit and Fed, a national initiative that provides children and young people free access to activities, sports, and nutritious food during school breaks. Harry got to see events happening firsthand and even got stuck in serving lunch to the kids . . . though we did notice he cleverly positioned himself right by the garlic bread - we've seen before that Harry loves to steal those carbs for himself!
Harry has always had a special way with kids and always looks in his element when he's with them, but this visit had even more significance, as the prince prepares to welcome his first child with wife Meghan Markle. It's fitting that while Meghan enjoys a bit of not-so-secret downtime in NYC with friends ahead of the birth, Harry's getting in some last-minute training with some adorable kids. See all the photos from his sweet visit ahead.

If you're going to have a wedding, why not include some Easter eggs from your favorite movies? The Super Snow Moon Is the Biggest and Brightest Event of 2019 - and It's Tonight!
Cancel any plans you had to finish binging the rest of Russian Doll tonight, because space is gracing us with another celestial wonder: a second 2019 super moon! The super snow moon - aptly named because February is one of the snowiest months of the year - is expected to really light up the sky tonight. In fact, compared to January's super blood wolf moon (which was totally a real thing, BTW), tonight's moon will be an entire 362 miles closer to Earth, according to NASA.
So what's so special about a super moon? Well, tonight's moon is something to get excited about because it will be at its biggest and brightest, appearing almost 14 percent larger and nearly 30 percent brighter than a typical moon. As explained by NASA astronomer Mitzi Adams, super moons appear largest as they are rising and setting due to an optical illusion known as the "Moon Illusion." This occurs when everyday objects like trees and buildings are nearby, and our minds trick us into thinking the moon is closer because of its proximity to the objects in our line of sight. So the moon isn't actually further away when it's right above you, but it will definitely look a lot more like a super moon if you can pull out your phone to snap a pic just as it's rising into the sky.
Because of the nature of the snow moon, it's possible that the snowy weather just might come between you and this wow-worthy celestial moment. If you don't want to miss out on the lunar spectacular, you can visit Virtual Telescope, based in Rome, for a real-time glimpse at the moon, starting at 11:30 p.m. ET, or check out Slooh starting at 7 p.m. ET.
And, if you miss out on tonight's full moon, don't worry; a third super moon is expected to make an appearance in March 2019!
Red, Yellow, or Blue? Here's What Each Rose Color Means For Your Relationship
Giving roses to someone can say many different things - I'm sorry, I love you, cheer up, thank you, and so on. And choosing roses for all of these occasions isn't surprising. They're beautiful, they smell amazing, and they come in a ton of different colors. But did you know that each color actually has a very specific meaning? Yeah, so if you were thinking of giving someone special a bouquet of roses, you might want to make sure the color isn't actually appropriate for funerals (queue the awkward silence). Keep reading to see a breakdown of what every color means, so you're armed with the right information and ready to purchase.
- Red: Traditional red roses definitely hint at love and romance, so if you got them from your significant other, things are looking good. They also signify beauty and perfection.
- Pink: Gentler in shade than their red counterparts, pink roses have many meanings, including admiration, gratitude, elegance, gracefulness, and joy.
- Yellow: As you would expect from such a bright, cheerful color, yellow roses convey cheer and joy and are a great flower to express friendship (i.e. these are NOT what you want your significant other to send you!).
- Dark Crimson: This deeper color is appropriate for funerals, as it conveys grief and sorrow.
- White: White is the color of purity, so it's no surprise that white roses represent innocence. They go along with the white dress at many weddings, where they also symbolize new beginnings.
- Orange: Someone may be looking to spice things up with fiery orange roses, which are traditionally the color of passion and desire.
- Blue: You may be someone's secret crush if you receive a bouquet of blue roses, which represent mystery and intrigue.
- Peach: These "thank-you" roses are the perfect way to show appreciation or gratitude.
- Lavender: If you receive a bouquet of lavender roses, things could get very interesting, as they represent love at first sight.
- Salmon: With a hue that falls somewhere between orange and peach, salmon roses symbolize desire and excitement and are a great choice for a new relationship.
- Purple: It was Prince's favorite color for a reason - in addition to its associations with pride and enchantment, the purple rose also has ties to royalty.
- Burgundy: They might be a little too subdued for romantic holidays like Valentine's Day, but burgundy roses, which represent "unconscious beauty," are a great choice for Wintertime decorations.

Date nights are great in theory, but once you've been with your partner for a significant period of time, coming up with different ways to keep things fun can be a little hard. While the idea of a date night jar might not sound exhilarating, it's actually been the best way my husband and I ensure we still get alone time and try new things while we're at it. And the best part about having a jar is you can customize it to fit your and your partner's needs, as many times as you want.
Once you have a standard mason jar and a package of popsicle sticks (or just a bunch of pieces of scrap paper), both of you write a handful of date night ideas that you want to do and add them to the jar. You can also color-code them, using one color for at-home dates, another for adventurous dates, etc. When your next date night comes around, just pull a stick from the jar and do whatever it tells you to do. Not only is this a great way to experience things your partner enjoys, but having the jar visible in your home will definitely inspire you to do more things together. Keep reading for 25 ideas that are perfect for your date night jar.

We Asked Dentists If Kombucha Is Damaging to Your Teeth, and You Might Want to Sit Down
Kombucha is the wellness drink of the moment, and for good reason. The fermented tea is rich in probiotics and prebiotics, which help increase the good bacteria in the gut, improving digestion and overall health. But if you really love kombucha, sad news: it may not be as great for your teeth.
"The dominant type of bacteria in kombucha creates acetic acid," Jeffery Sulitzer, DMD, chief clinical officer at SmileDirectClub, told POPSUGAR. "On the pH scale, white distilled vinegar tests around 2.4 pH. A properly brewed batch of kombucha may fall anywhere from 2.5 to 3.5."
Acid is known to wear down tooth enamel, but "the acidic pH found in kombucha also allows the 'bad' bacteria already found in your mouth to potentially create an unhealthier environment for your gums," Dr. Sulitzer said. "Drinking kombucha can be just as harmful for your teeth as drinking a sugary soda since the net result is lowered pH and the potential of having an increase in tooth decay and gum disease."
Like other dark beverages, including wine and coffee, kombucha can also cause the surface of your teeth to become discolored. "Because kombucha contains tannins, drinking it over time will stain your pearly whites," Dr. Sulitzer said.
Sipping tea through a straw can help. "Place a straw behind your front teeth, so that the acidic beverage has less of a chance of coming in contact with your teeth," said Tricia Quartey, DMD, FAGD, a spokesperson for the American Dental Association. "After consuming any acidic beverage, it's good to drink fluoridated water, which will rinse your mouth and help keep acids under control."
This helps protect that precious enamel, which not only makes your teeth appear whiter, but also serves as a barrier against bacteria that can cause cavities and infection, Dr. Quartey explained. So, have your kombucha - but not without taking some precautions.

Velvet Sports Bras, Here to Make You Feel Like the Sweating, Shining Queen You Are

Take a moment.

There may be nothing more stubborn than belly fat, but too often the way we go about tackling it is all wrong. While core strengthening exercises are key to sculpting your waist, experts agree that crunches and planks alone won't burn the fat that keeps those muscles hidden. "Blasting belly fat takes effort from your whole body, not just core work," said NASM-certified personal trainer Kendall Wood, MS, CSCS, co-author of Core Fitness Solution. In other words, you can't reduce fat in your midsection without shedding it all over.
The best method for doing that, according to Kendall? "High-intensity training that hits all major muscle groups," he told POPSUGAR. "This will get your heart pumping and fat melting, which is the only way to reveal a tight tummy." With that in mind, here are five exercises Kendall suggests will work. "Do these moves until you can no longer perform a form-accurate rep, and rest for only 30 seconds between each one," he said. You heard him - let's go.
10 Low-Carb Breads For Those Days When You Just Really Need a Sandwich (Ugh, Same)
Going low-carb (or even keto!) doesn't have to mean cutting out bread completely. And if that news weren't reason enough to celebrate, consider this: there are tons of companies that cater to low-carb sandwich-lovers by creating breads made from whole grains or virtuous ingredients like almond flour. If you like to get in the kitchen yourself, there are even premade mixes available to take the guesswork out of whipping up your own recipe. Keep reading for a wide range of breads that are equal parts tasty and light in carbs - and just begging to be topped with avocado and greens.
Yes, a Podiatrist Says You Can Work Out in Converse - but Only These Specific Exercises
Whenever I see someone in the gym or on Instagram working out in Converse, my arches ache. I love Chuck Taylors, but I can't walk more than half a mile in them before my feet start throbbing. And if that's just walking, it can't be good to work out in them, can it?
Well, actually, it can. Monara Dini, doctor of podiatric medicine and associate clinical professor at UC San Francisco, told POPSUGAR that there are three weightlifting exercises that can really benefit from a flat shoe like Converse: squats, bench presses, and deadlifts. That's because the flat surface mimics being barefoot, which forces you to use your whole foot to "grip the ground and remain planted," Dr. Dini explained. It also helps you push through the heel, an essential movement when you're lifting. She added that it's most important to wear flat shoes when you're lifting heavier weights; for a workout with light or medium dumbbells, it's not as crucial.

It's true that Converse aren't ideal for all workouts, though. Dr. Dini pointed out that they don't have good arch support (hence my painful arches from walking long distances), making them and other flat shoes a bad choice for workouts with running and jumping. For those exercises, you can break out your cushy, comfortable athletic shoes to provide that extra support.
And if you're looking for a solid, all-purpose gym shoe, Dr. Dini recommended cross trainers. Their flat soles make them more flexible and allow for a wider range of movements, making them great for aerobics, weight training, and multidirectional workouts like kickboxing. As for your Converse, save them for days when you're just looking to do heavy weightlifting. Just further proof that these old classics will never go out of style.
I’ve Tried a TON of CBD Brands, but This 1 Definitely Reigns Supreme
As a person who has really gravitated towards CBD products this year to curb my anxiety and regulate my sleep schedule, let me assure you there's absolutely no shortage of brands and products to try. While I've been pretty particular about the items I've used over the last few months, after getting sent samples of products from Mary's Nutritionals, I can pretty much confirm it's my favorite line yet. In the past, I've generally stuck with some of the classic examples of CBD-enriched products the industry is best known for - gummies, tinctures, and muscle-relieving rubs - but lately I've been experimenting with lesser-known CBD methods, like some borderline life-changing Elite Capsules ($65), and using an Elite Transdermal Gel Pen ($50) and an Elite Transdermal Patch ($30) that's a must-try.
Eager to try another brand when it comes to fulfilling your CBD needs? Here's why Mary's Nutritionals are the best way to go, whether you want to try an out-of-the-box product or stick with methods you already know and love.

Ballerina Alison Stroming Dishes on Her Diet, Her Exercise Routine, and Why She Loves Being Black
There are so many beautiful, strong, and powerful black women dominating the fine arts (and let's be real, the world). In the world of ballet, professional ballerinas like Alison Stroming are challenging the deep-rooted "norms" of ballet being an art form exclusively for those who are elite and white. Keep reading to find out more about the phenomenal ballerina, the advice she'd give her younger self, and young ballerinas on her radar.
Her Diet and Exercise Routine
"I am not on a strict diet and eat pretty much everything except dairy," Alison told POPSUGAR. She explained that she likes to have three meals a day, dinner being her largest meal and with the most protein. Because Alison trains three to four hours a day, she makes it a point to fuel her body with foods that will power every turn and leap.
To stay energized, Alison said, she'll have a banana, because they're "perfect to eat in between rehearsals or even during a performance if I'm running low on energy." She also likes to snack on nuts, apples, and rice cakes with almond butter to keep her energy high.
When she isn't practicing dance, Alison said she cross-trains to "keep everything in tune." If she isn't at the studio, you can find her at the gym, doing Pilates or yoga, or hiking.
What She Would Tell Her Younger Self
"If I could tell my younger self anything, it would be to not sweat the small stuff," Alison said. Instead of spending energy on things that were out of her control, she said, she would also tell herself that "life goes on and you can survive any failure. If you learn from your mistakes, you will come out stronger, smarter, and wiser." Most importantly, Alison said she'd tell herself to trust her gut, because "the only person who knows what's best for you is you."
Up-and-Coming Dancers on Her Radar
When it comes to women supporting one another, Alison described herself as blessed to have had teachers and mentors like Misty Copeland who believed in her as she was growing up. Because of that, it excites her to be able to do the same for up-and-coming ballerinas. "There are so many young, gifted ballerinas that I cannot wait to see flourish into professionals," Alison said. Marjá Miller, Kaeli Ware, Kayla Mak, Quinn Starner, and Destiny Wimpye have caught Alison's attention. "They are all very dedicated, poised, and are all now training at prestigious ballet schools across the country."
What She Loves About Being Black
Ballet has historically excluded people of color, especially black women. Fortunately, ballerinas like Alison, Misty, Ingrid Silva, and many more continue to break down barriers for other black women, and all women of color, every day. When asked what she loves about being black, Alison said, "I feel powerful, proud, and I love the skin I'm in!"

Help! My Sweet Tooth Can't Decide Which of These 40+ Baked Desserts to Make First
You want to bake, but if you eat too much sugar or white flour, you won't feel so hot. These healthy recipes are just what you need on a laid-back Sunday afternoon when you feel like turning on your oven. From black bean brownie bites to chocolate cupcakes with avocado frosting to vegan protein banana bread, these treats taste amazing but are much healthier for you than recipes that call for four sticks of butter creamed with three cups of sugar. Let's get to baking!
Skipping Booze? Sip on These Low-Sugar, Adaptogen-Packed "Curious Elixirs" Instead
There are many reasons to skip booze during a night out, and sometimes it's fine to sip on juice, soda, or plain water while everyone else is drinking. But it can also be an utter drag. That's why mocktails are great - and why we wish they were a little less of a sugar bomb than most of them are. Some Shirley Temples, for example, can have around 59 grams of sugar in one drink, according to the Nutritionix database.
If you're looking for a booze-free cocktail with more nutritional value, plus a more complex taste, Curious Elixirs might be the brand to try. They come in three varieties so far and stand out for their all-organic ingredients and interesting, low-cal blends of juices, herbs, adaptogens, root extracts, and (in one of the cocktails) even CBD. If you're looking for some fizzle, they're carbonated as well. And each flavor features zero grams of added sugar, meaning that the only sugar comes from the natural ingredients. Even then, one flavor only has three grams.
Each flavor comes in a classy bottle, and its website describes the taste and best serving combinations for each to maximize your alcohol-free drinking experience. You can order them online in a case of 12 bottles ($89) or a box of four ($35), and its website says that each bottle splits into two cocktail servings. Read on for different flavors and nutrition facts for each swanky, booze-free drink.
These Egg White Chips Are Packed With Protein and Straight From Your Low-Carb Dreams
It's my firm belief that a crunchy, salty snack should be a staple in any balanced diet. Healthy choices like nuts and kale chips can satisfy, but sometimes even the most health-conscious eater just needs a handful of Lay's. Still, if we could opt out of the carb load and add a couple more nutrients in there, we wouldn't complain.
Quevos might be just what the salt craving ordered. They're chips made of egg whites that aim to give you the nutrition of an omelet in the convenient, crunchy package of a bag of chips, a Quevos rep told POPSUGAR. Nutrition-wise, they come with a solid 10 grams of protein, 6 grams of fiber, and just 8 grams of carbs. Compare that to Lay's Classic potato chips, which come out to 2 grams of protein, 1 gram of fiber, and 15 grams of carbs. And Quevos are made with avocado oil and chia seeds, giving you a nice dose of healthy fats. They're dairy- and gluten-free as well.
There's an interesting story behind these unique chips, too. They're inspired by the crunchy egg white crisps you get when you cook them in a pan, which are co-founder Zach Schreier's favorite part of an egg white dish. As a type 1 diabetic, Zach ate egg whites for a low-carb meal that helped him avoid an insulin shot. If you're looking to cut carbs without sacrificing the crunchy, salty satisfaction of a good chip, Quevos might be a good brand to try. Buy them online in four varieties: Quevos Rancheros, Cracked Black Pepper, Sweet BBQ, and Three Cheese (the last two are temporarily out of stock, but a Quevos rep told POPSUGAR they'll be back up again soon). Check out full nutrition facts there, too.
I Do CrossFit, and These Are the 22 Exercises That Completely Transformed My Butt
While walking up the stairs the other night, my husband following me, he reached up and touched my butt, which kind of took me by surprise. When you're married for over 10 years with two young kids, I hate to admit it, but those little subtle moments of affection are few and far between. "Damn, your butt looks good," he said, and I knew why.
If there's one thing CrossFit has done for me, it's grown and shaped my butt. But it's not just for looks (although I do feel more confident in my leggings and do love when my husband notices), but it's also made me feel stronger and more explosive when skiing, running, hiking, and swimming. It seems like just about every day in CrossFit, my butt and legs get worked. It makes me walk funny the next day, but that's why I love it! Here are the glute-building exercises I do every week.

Katelyn Ohashi's Michael Jackson Routine Went Viral, but Her Other Floor Routines Deserve a Perfect 10, Too
In case you haven't met Katelyn Ohashi, let us introduce you. In 2018, her viral Michael Jackson-inspired NCAA gymnastics floor routine for UCLA featured the moonwalk. Her newest performance to classics like Tina Turner's "Proud Mary" and "September" by Earth, Wind, & Fire opened up with a killer split leg double layout. On Feb. 10, at a meet against Washington, the gymnast scored her second perfect 10 of the year and her seventh overall. Now that you've gotten acquainted, let's move on.
Katelyn's carefree showmanship and undeniable skill have taken the internet by storm alongside powerhouse teammates such as former Fierce Five Olympian Kyla Ross and freshman Sekai Wright. But before her days as a Bruin, Katelyn was an Olympic hopeful. She stepped down from the Olympic track after a series of injuries and surgeries - she'd been competing on a fractured spine and two torn shoulders.
Katelyn revealed in a Players' Tribune documentary last year that the elite level "broke" her. "I was unbeatable . . . until I wasn't," she said, explaining that gymnastics was her world, but she was under constant pressure from coaches and fans to "look a certain way" and always come out on top. It took finding UCLA and "having a different goal and path to follow, to finally find joy and love within the sport again." Now, she's thriving in NCAA gymnastics. Check out how Katelyn's floor routines have progressed throughout her elite-level and collegiate careers. They're all amazing and are worth a watch (or five)!
