5 Tips For Making Your Small Apartment Look Bigger
If you've been living in apartments since your college days and have not yet graduated to a house, chances are you've probably wished for more space on more than one occasion. City apartment living usually comes with minimal closet space, smaller bedrooms, and compromised open concept areas (aka lack of separate dining rooms or even living rooms). Because of this, apartments can look (and feel) much smaller than they actually are.
Thankfully, there are ways to maximize the space you do have and make it appear much more open and airy than it may actually be. POPSUGAR spoke with a few experts to learn some quick and easy home design and decor tricks you can implement to do this. From choosing the right paint color for the walls to skipping out on certain decor components, each tip will breathe new life into your home.
Costco Has 5-Cheese Shamrock-Shaped Ravioli For St. Patrick's Day, So I'm Feeling Very Lucky
If you're still stressing about a somewhat elaborate St. Patrick's Day menu, you might want to put a hard stop on planning and get this shamrock-shaped ravioli instead. Costco is now carrying the festive item from Nuovo Pasta, the same company that sold its adorable heart-shaped ravioli for Valentine's Day. As cute as the themed ravioli is, it's all about taste, too - there's a blend of five cheeses in each little pillowy pocket of dough.
Imported Irish aged cheddar gives it sharpness, while mozzarella, ricotta, parmesan, and white cheddar add creaminess and a salty bite. Serve it simply with butter and parmesan cheese, or dress it up with your favorite sauce (Might I suggest pesto for an extra dose of green?). At $10 for two big 20-ounce packages in one, this grocery-store gem has us feeling pretty lucky. Nuovo has had the popular shamrock-shaped pasta for years, so if you've yet to try it, stock up ahead of March 17.

The Internet Is Divided Over This Viral Pineapple Hack, and I Really Don't Know What to Believe
I love pineapple, but I'm not sure pineapple loves me back. The tasty tropical fruit is almost irresistible to my taste buds, but it leaves me with an itchy mouth, and it's oh so annoying to cut. At least, that's what I thought before I saw Tik Tok user @dillonroberts22 peel his pineapple piece-by-piece. Uh, excuse me? How has this hack just been lying in plain sight?
I'm not the only one thoroughly mesmerized by this trick. People on the internet went into an uproar over the video and quickly tried to put it to the test in their own kitchens. Here's the thing: it only works some of the time. LA Times columnist Lucas Peterson and many others didn't see success when trying the hack themselves. Others found that a superripe snack pineapple (and maybe even some time in the microwave) is necessary to get the juicy, fall-off-the-core chunks. I guess there's really no way to know for sure until I try it at home.
Ahead, see a few attempts at this viral hack: the good, the not so good, and the straight-up messy.
7 Tips For Getting the Beautiful, Organized Bookshelf of Your Dreams
Books are magical. Not only can they be portals to other worlds, they can also educate us, make us laugh, and put a smile on our face when nothing else can. We love nothing more than curling up on a comfy sofa and diving into our favorite new read.
But if you love to keep a large collection of books, you may be wondering what the best way to store and display them all is. Some people prefer only keeping the classics on show, some want them scattered in every spare corner around their house, and some want them all in one place. The good news is that there's no one right way to do it, but it can be overwhelming with so many options. We personally love the Instagram trend of arranging your books by color. It looks so beautiful and neat.
We know the age-old saying of "don't judge a book by its cover," and normally we would always agree, but in this case, it's kind of important that we throw that rule out the window, because, well, the covers matter. To learn exactly how to get your dream rainbow book shelf, keep reading.
I Swapped My Down Duvet For the Buffy Comforter, and My Bed Just Became My New Best Friend
In my seemingly never-ending quest to create a sleep oasis in my bedroom - from blackout curtains to sleep-inducing potions, linen sheets, and a Casper mattress - I decided to try out the much-hyped Buffy comforter, and all I can say is: bye, forever, down duvet.
The eco-friendly, sustainably made Buffy comforter has a lot going for it on paper. The moisture-wicking and temperature-regulating fabric is made from eucalyptus fibers, which according to the brand uses 10 times less water, and the filling is made from recycled plastic bottles, which have been diverted from landfills. It's also free of harmful chemicals; hypoallergenic; and hyper-resistant to microbes, mites, and allergens.
This all sounds great, but would it live up to the "silky-soft" hype? Would I really feel like I'm sleeping under a cloud? At the same time that I was debating swapping my feather-down duvet, Buffy reached out to see if we'd like to test out the comforter for review purposes. Ahead, here are my honest thoughts a few weeks in on whether it's as wonderful as it sounds.

This Odor-Neutralizing Hand Soap From Amazon Gets Rid of ANY Smell, Including Garlic
I love garlic, but I hate the way it makes my hands smell. I usually give my hands a quick wash after I finish chopping any cloves as I'm prepping dinner, but I could never really get rid of the strong smell until I discovered Kirk's Odor Neutralizing Hydrating Hand Soap. This is not exactly a new discovery - the brand has been around since 1839 - but it's new to me. For the past few months, I've been using the Lemon & Eucalyptus scent in my bathroom and the Rosemary & Sage scent in my kitchen, and is it weird to say I look forward to washing my hands more than I normally would?
The soap has a natural, hypoallergenic formula that's free of sulfates, parabens, phthalates, artificial fragrance, and harsh chemicals, which is something I personally care about as I strive to put more clean products on my skin. It's extremely soft, and while I love the fresh scents, I like that there's a fragrance-free option too. You can find Kirk's in some stores including Whole Foods, but it's also available on Amazon, which is even more convenient. Spaghetti night in my house is now even more enjoyable, thanks to this odor-obliterating soap.

76 Adorable Plant Gifts That Will Prickle Your Green Thumb's Fancy
As a millennial plant parent, I am the first to say that plants are one of my favorite decor staples in a home - I should know; my previous apartment was filled with them - and luckily, my taste in Scandinavian and bohemian design supports my obsession. Plants add a breath of fresh air (literally) into any space, especially in a stuffy city apartment like my own, and bring a pop of color against bland white walls that can't be painted. As a 20-something who feels as though I can barely take care of myself, the most fulfilling part of owning a plant is waking up each day knowing that I can care for another living thing; it seriously gives me hope for my future. Not to mention, they're extremely fun to shop for, as nothing makes me happier than buying a cute new pot for my plants to flourish in. If you're on the same plant-loving page as me or know of someone who is, then I've rounded up some cute plant gifts that I either own or wish I owned. Have a look!

I'm Unable to Wrap My Head Around How Hot Shay Mitchell Looks With Blond Hair
You guys, Shay Mitchell just went blonde - well, momentarily, at least. Before attending the iHeartRadio Music Awards, the 31-year-old actress tested out the ol' "blondes have more fun" adage by getting a fresh, platinum wig - and DAMN, did she look good.
Los Angeles-based hairstylist Jesus Guerrero helped transform Mitchell from brunette babe to blonde bombshell by painstakingly braiding her hair and applying a wig with a choppy, shoulder-length cut. Shay documented the whole process on her Instagram Stories, where she shared plenty of fire-emoji-worthy angles of her sexy, though temporary, look. Read on to see just how hot the star looks with a blond bob.
We Have 1 Thought After Seeing Captain Marvel in the New Avengers Trailer: We Like This One
Buckle up, folks, because Avengers: Endgame is about to take us on a crazy journey with Earth's mightiest heroes. And this time, they have a new ally: Captain Marvel (Brie Larson). The film's second full-length trailer dropped on March 14, and it's chock-full of emotional tidbits and epic battle scenes (which begs the question: whomst are they even fighting?!). But the real scene-stealer is Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, who meets Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) - something that shouldn't come as a surprise for those who (SPOILER) have already seen the midcredits scene in Captain Marvel.
Let's back up a bit and review everything that's led up to this moment. At the end of Infinity War, we see Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) use a pager to send out an alert to Captain Marvel right before he turns to dust. And in Captain Marvel, we learn that Carol herself gave the pager to Nick, telling him to use it only for emergencies (and we'd definitely qualify the current situation an emergency). We also find out that Captain America (Chris Evans) and Black Widow have been keeping the pager nice and safe while it continues to beep and summon Carol. Finally, Captain Marvel arrives - thank God she didn't disintegrate - which is what the newest Avengers trailer ends with.
In the trailer, Carol and Thor are having a stare-down while the buff Asgardian conjures his Stormbreaker axe. The weapon comes flying in, right past Carol's head but - being the badass she is - Carol doesn't even flinch, prompting Thor to say arguably the best line in the preview clip: "I like this one." We do, too, Thor.
Naturally, fans LOST IT at this part and have a lot of thoughts about Captain Marvel arriving to kick names and take ass (RIP, Mantis) as well as potentially develop a bit of chemistry with Thor. See some of the best reactions ahead!

Get Ready, Broadway - Hugh Jackman Takes the Lead in the Upcoming Music Man Revival
It's been over 10 years since Hugh Jackman took the Broadway stage by storm, and this time around, he's making a lot more noise.
The Greatest Showman star will take on the role of con man "Professor" Harold Hill in a major upcoming revival of Meredith Wilson's The Music Man. The story follows the charismatic con man as he arrives at the small Iowa town of River City posing as a boys' marching band organizer. Hill's big plan is to run away with the money he collects for musical instruments and uniforms, but librarian Marian sees through his scam and plans to expose him. Of course, romantic complications ensue.
This will be Jackson's first musical role since his 2003 Tony-winning Broadway debut in the Peter Allen bio-musical The Boy From Oz, though he has appeared on Broadway in limited engagements three times since. The actor confirmed the news on his Twitter page with a photo of a trombone and suitcase with a luggage tag reading "Professor Harold Hill," writing that the show would open on Oct. 22, 2020. Scott Rudin, who's produced To Kill a Mockingbird and a revival of King Lear, has been tapped to produce The Music Man.
"The first musical I was ever part of was the phenomenal The Music Man," said Jackman in a statement. "The year was 1983, and I was at Knox Grammar School in Sydney, Australia. I was one of the traveling salesmen, and I think I can actually (almost) remember that unforgettable opening number! That was probably the moment when the magic of theater was born in me."
"The idea of bringing The Music Man back to Broadway has been lurking in the back of my brain for a long time, maybe even for 35 years," he continued. "When Scott Rudin called me with that very idea, I was floored. To finally be doing this is a huge thrill."

34 Memes That Perfectly Sum Up Colton's Season of The Bachelor
Wonder of wonders, miracle of miracles, Colton's season of The Bachelor is FINALLY done. Against all odds, somehow my body, soul, and sanity all survived intact. I, like the rest of Bachelor Nation, will now proceed to chug an entire bottle of wine and sleep peacefully for the first time since season 23 began back in January. But before that happens, however, I think we owe it to ourselves to reflect on the emotional roller coaster that was Colton's somewhat disastrous journey to everlasting love with Cassie Randolph.
Because this is The Bachelor, obviously the entire season was filled with so *clap* much *clap* DRAMA *clap* between Colton and his contestants. For instance, there were two huge feuds that exploded between two sets of women. And then there were all the endless, incredibly awkward jokes and questions about the status of Colton's virginity. Oh, and how could I forget about the many, many women who decided to self-eliminate, making Colton the most-dumped Bachelor in the TV show's history?
Like I said: so much drama.
Given how season 23 was a wild ride for both Colton and for fans of the show, Bachelor Nation brought their A-game when it came to sharing observations about the reality series on social media. (ESPECIALLY during the season finale.) If you're in the mood to laugh (and cringe), check them out ahead. In the meantime, I'll be enjoying a peaceful life without this franchise (well, until The Bachelorette comes back on).

I'm Full-On Melting Over Alicia Keys and Her Son Performing "Raise a Man" Together
It looks like Alicia Keys's son Egypt has piano skills that are just as impressive as his mama's! The 8-year-old took the stage at the 2019 iHeartRadio Music Awards to help Keys perform "Raise a Man," a beautiful track she released last month after hosting the Grammy Awards. As his mom belted out the song's touching lyrics, Egypt played the piano in a bedazzled white outfit like a total pro. Perhaps the best part of their joint performance was when Keys stood up and told the crowd to wave their hands to the song, which prompted Egypt to start floss dancing, naturally. Keep reading to see the sweet mother-son duo in action - your heart just might melt from cuteness overload.
Surprise! Chris Pratt Joined Garth Brooks For His iHeartRadio Music Awards Performance
Chris Pratt channeled his inner country star for a moment when he joined Garth Brooks on stage at the iHeartRadio Music Awards on Thursday. First, Pratt presented Brooks with the iHeartRadio artist of the decade award, and he shared a funny story about the first time the two met. "I said, 'Garth, you ever need a lead man to play you in a movie, I can make that happen," Pratt explained. "True story: he looked me square in the eyes, and he said, 'Really? You know Bradley Cooper?'"
Following Pratt's introduction, Brooks hit the stage to perform a medley of some of his greatest hits. A couple of songs in, Pratt surprised the crowd when he joined the country star on stage, microphone in hand, to sing a few notes himself. The moment meant a lot to Pratt, who later posted about the night on Instagram, writing, "Welp. I guess I died and gone to heaven. Thank you @garthbrooks and congratulations on the artist of the decade award. It was an honor to sing with you and the band on stage. I can't wait for the upcoming stadium tour. God is so good. Thank you thank you thank you." He also shared a video of himself hanging out with Brooks and the band backstage, writing, "A moment I will never forget." Keep reading for a look at Garth Brooks and Chris Pratt's fun night.
Lucky Us! Kate Middleton Pulls Double Duty and Does Back-to-Back Appearances in London
No rest for Kate Middleton! After attending Commonwealth Day service with the royal family on Monday, Kate Middleton pulled double duty the following day when she visited London's Henry Fawcett Centre and made a stunning appearance at the 2019 Portrait Gala later that evening. Clad in a black floral gown (which she first wore to the 2017 BAFTAs), the Duchess of Cambridge stepped out solo for the event and was all smiles as she made her way inside. This year's gala supports the Inspiring People project, which aims to help the gallery complete its renewal and refurbishment of the building.
Kate is a patron of the National Portrait Gallery, and it likely holds a special place in her heart, as it was one of the very first patronages she announced when she became a royal back in 2011. Fun fact: the mother of three studied art history at the University of St. Andrews, and one of her watercolors even appeared on the order of service at sister Pippa's wedding in 2017.
Chrissy Teigen Gets Luna Her First Big-Girl Bed, but It's Missing a Few Important Details
As if the Legend-Teigen household wasn't experiencing enough changes to the family structure this week (don't forget they got a hamster just a few days ago), it seems little Luna Stephens isn't so little anymore. In an adorable Instagram video, Chrissy Teigen proudly captures the moment they unveil a brand-new "big-girl bed" to Luna, now 2 years old.
She looks at it, assesses it for all of its worth, and makes some critical upgrades, heading to her collection of dolls, which must have moved, according to the young sleuth. "Why you take these out?" she asks, picking them up and relocating them to her new bed. Her parents can't stop laughing, and neither can we. Congrats on the new bed, Luna!
Ariana Grande Performed "Needy" For the First Time, Leaving Everyone an Emotional Mess
Ariana Grande basically used the 2019 iHeartRadio Music Awards to kick off her highly anticipated Sweetener world tour, which begins March 18. Following an introduction by Pharrell Williams, Grande - who also won the award for female artist of the year - "performed" her Thank U, Next song "Needy." Being that she's days away from starting her tour, however, the low-key performance was prerecorded for the show.
The pseudo appearance actually comes about a month after Grande canceled her Grammys performance and skipped the show, following a disagreement with producers over which song she would perform. "It's about collaboration. it's about feeling supported. it's about art and honesty. not politics," Grande tweeted at the time. In an interesting turn of events, Grande would go on to win her first Grammy the day of the show for best pop vocal album.
While it would've been incredible to see Ariana perform live, fans will have nearly 100 opportunities to do so as she tours the world. In the meantime, check out the performance clip, as well as Williams's introduction, ahead.
The Dirt: Think Mick Mars Looks Familiar? He's Game of Thrones's Worst Villain
We never knew that we needed a Mötley Crüe biopic in our lives, but now that it's happening, it feels so right. Based on Mötley Crüe's bestselling 2001 autobiography The Dirt: Confessions of the World's Most Notorious Rock Band, this long-awaited biopic will follow the story of the heavy metal band's rise from obscurity to super stardom and international fame during the course of the 1980s. You may not recognize all of the names of the cast (though you'll definitely know Machine Gun Kelly, who's playing Tommy Lee, and Pete Davidson, who's playing record executive Tom Zutaut), but even if the name Iwan Rheon doesn't sound familiar, you'll recognize plenty of the other shows and movies he's been in.
Thirty-three-year-old Welsh actor Iwan Rheon portrays Mick Mars - lead guitarist of Mötley Crüe - in the film, which makes sense, as the actor has been singing and songwriting since the age of 16. However, he actually got his start in theater, his first starring role being Moritz Stiefel in the London production of Spring Awakening in 2008. For his performance, Rheon won the award for Best Supporting Actor in a Musical at the 2010 Olivier Awards, and he soon after landed the role of the timid Simon Bellamy on the British sci-fi drama Misfits, his first major TV role. Then, once he'd announced his departure on Twitter at the end of season three, the actor got ready to take on his first film role.

After costarring in the 2012 crime drama Wasteland and playing real-life military commander Daniel O'Leary in the 2013 Spanish–Venezuelan historical drama The Liberator, Rheon landed his breakthrough role playing Ramsay Bolton in Game of Thrones. Believe it or not, Rheon had originally auditioned for the role of Jon Snow, but we honestly couldn't imagine anyone else playing GoT's most villainous psychopath (and luckily, there's no hard feelings between him and Kit Harington, as they are still good friends). Rheon also asserted that the producers made the right choice in giving the role to Harington over him, and as he told Interview, "It would've been a very different Jon Snow if I'd played him."
Even though Ramsay Bolton met his demise in season six when he was (spoiler alert!) mauled by a pack of dogs, Rheon's appeared in plenty of TV shows since then, including the British sitcom Vicious, the BBC military drama Our Girl, the unfortunately short-lived ABC Marvel Comics series Inhumans, and the sci-fi horror miniseries Residue (in which he plays the boyfriend of fellow GoT cast member Natalia Tena). He has also continued to appear in stage productions in London and Wales, most recently playing William Bloor in Foxfinder.

Besides his upcoming role in The Dirt (which debuts on Netflix on March 22), he also appears in the recently released romance Berlin, I Love You alongside a whole bunch of A-list actors, including Keira Knightley, Helen Mirren, Hayden Panettiere, Jenna Dewan, Diana Argon, and several others. Coming up, you can catch him in Mission of Honor when it's released in the US on March 15, which tells the story of the Polish pilots known as Squadron 303 during World War II, and a dark comedy thriller called The Toll, which hasn't yet received a release date.

So, Alicia Keys's 4-Year-Old Son Was Fixated on Taylor Swift at the iHeartRadio Awards
Taylor Swift might have attended the 2019 iHeartRadio Music Awards without a date, but she's certainly leaving with a new admirer. Seated next to Alicia Keys and her family, Taylor struck up a sweet friendship with Alicia's 4-year-old son, Genesis Ali Dean. In fact, while accepting her innovator award, Alicia joked, "I'm sitting with Taylor and Maren and we're talking. Actually, I think my son Genesis is maybe trying to take Taylor out later tonight." Alicia wasn't kidding, either - Genesis pretty much stared at Taylor all night long, and it was so damn adorable. See the two interact ahead.
Despite a Fan Movement to Save It, Netflix Has Officially Canceled One Day at a Time
When One Day at a Time premiered on Netflix back in January 2017, the rebooted sitcom had some hefty shoes to fill thanks to Norman Lear's beloved predecessor of the same name, which aired on CBS from 1975 to 1984. Luckily, it didn't take long for a new generation of audiences to fall in love with showrunner Gloria Calderón Kellett's updated take on the family comedy. Unluckily, Netflix has pulled the plug on the show after just three seasons.
The series stars Justina Machado as a veteran and newly divorced matriarch of a Cuban-American family living in the same house, which includes her teenage daughter, Elena (Isabella Gomez); her tween son, Alex (Marcel Ruiz); and her absolutely fabulous mother, Lydia (played by the equally fabulous Rita Moreno). Despite the presence of an old-school laugh track, One Day at a Time has proven again and again that it should be taken just as seriously as any prestige drama.
Few shows on the air right now have tackled tough subjects like depression, addiction, coming out, gender, and other cultural issues in the nuanced, thoughtful way this series has. Not only that, but it has so much genuine heart and humor that it made watching it a joy (oh, and it's one of Netflix's few shows that are actually well-lit - shouldn't that count for something?!).
Calderón Kellett shared on Twitter in February that the show might not get a fourth season, writing that Netflix executives "made clear that they love the show, love how it serves underrepresented audiences, love its heart & humor, but...we need more viewers. They'll decide soon. I wish I felt more confident WHAT CAN YOU DO? Tell friends to watch!" The co-showrunner's call to action spread like wildfire on Twitter, igniting a movement among fans to get people to watch One Day at a Time in hopes of saving the show.
Despite the buzz, the streaming giant officially canceled it on March 14. "It's been a great honor to work with the legendary Norman Lear on One Day at a Time. I've personally spoken with Norman, and co-creators Gloria Calderón Kellett and Mike Royce, to express my gratitude to them, all the writers, the dedicated crew and the cast including the brilliant Justina Machado and dazzling Rita Moreno for creating a series with such humor, heart and humanity," Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos said in a statement about the disappointing news. "This was a very difficult decision and we're thankful to all the fans who've supported the series, our partners at Sony, and all the critics who embraced it. While it's disappointing that more viewers didn't discover One Day at a Time, I believe the series will stand the test of time."
You can distract yourself from the upsetting turn of events by reliving season three in photos, ahead.
The Backstreet Boys' Nostalgic iHeartRadio Awards Performance Just Took Us Way Back
The Backstreet Boys mixed the old with the new as they performed at the iHeartRadio Music Awards. On Thursday, the group took to the stage to perform their new song "Chances," but things took an unexpected twist when they started singing their 1999 hit "I Want It That Way." I'd be lying if I said I didn't scream at my TV screen. Those moves! Those voices! Yep, they've still got it. I, for one, can't wait to scream like a teenager during their DNA tour this Summer!

Aww! Meghan Markle Was Caught Tearing Up During Commonwealth Day Service Performance
Meghan Markle may have been all smiles when she and Prince Harry arrived for a Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey in London on Monday, but once inside, things got quite emotional. The purpose of the celebration was to "celebrate the vast diversity, strong unity, and uplifting values that define the Commonwealth," and during the service, Meghan was caught tearing up as Alfie Boe performed an a cappella version of Snow Patrol's "Run." With lyrics like "Light up, light up / As if you have a choice / Even if you cannot hear my voice / I'll be right beside you dear," it's no wonder the Duchess of Sussex was in her feelings. Harry also seemed to be feeling the music, as he was seen bobbing his head along to Clean Bandit's performance of "Symphony." Gosh, we just love these two! Catch Meghan's emotional moment at the 45:00 mark ahead.
People Are Photoshopping Their Own Cats Into Captain Marvel Posters, and It's Purr-fection
Captain Marvel has given us a lot of unexpected things: a newfound appreciation for Nine Inch Nails, the No Doubt song "Just a Girl" stuck in our heads on a loop, and a deep obsession with a deadly alien named Goose, who happens to look like a cuddly little house cat. It's the latter aspect of Marvel's latest superhero romp that has inspired not only a slew of memes dedicated to Goose, but also some truly adorable (and hilarious) stabs at Photoshop.
On Saturday, Twitter user @doryheartsbooks pointed out that the hashtag "#캡틴마블_우리집구스" had started trending in Korea, and featured a bunch of Captain Marvel posters, only with people's own real-life cats edited into the frame to take Goose's place.
Um... Korea is trending a hashtag for Captain Marvel's Goose in which people are editing their cats into a Captain Marvel background. #캡틴마블_우리집구스 Click on the hashtag. You're welcome.

Emilia Clarke "Completely Broke Down" After Filming Her Last Scene in Game of Thrones
The Mother of Dragons has come a long way since she first began her journey on Game of Thrones, and it's safe to say fans cannot wait to see how it all ends in the final season, premiering on April 14. You know who else is excited about the final season? The Breaker of Chains herself, Emilia Clarke! The 32-year-old actress has been sporting a white-blonde wig and burning legions of people atop a CGI dragon for ten years, and in an interview with Harper's Bazaar she had to admit, "[The ending] was just the mother of all releases."
To be fair, Clarke's had a decade-long run as queen Daenerys Targaryen and she's put in a lot of work for the role. She's walked through fire (unburnt, duh), dealt with copious misogyny, and, oh yeah, set out on a campaign to claim her rightful place on the Iron Throne. So, she's been pretty busy! But the final season of GoT isn't the end for Clarke by a long shot. The actress has plenty of projects lined up, including the upcoming holiday rom-com Last Christmas, also starring Crazy Rich Asians' Henry Golding, and a chilling thriller titled Above Suspicion, which is based on real-life events.
But before she moves on to all that greatness, we'll have to say goodbye to a certain Khaleesi. Read on for some of Clarke's sweetest quotes about bidding adieu to the one and only Daenerys Stormborn of the House Targaryen.
Should You Listen to Music When You Run? 2 Running Coaches Weigh the Pros and Cons
Picture this: you're running a 5K Turkey Trot in your hometown that you participate in every year; to back out would break family tradition. You're on your second mile, and everything is going great. Then, all at once, your Bluetooth headphones die and you're bombarded with the sudden realization that you're stuck hearing yourself breathe, sometimes unsteadily, alongside other runners (and their heavily breathing bodies), and there's nowhere to go but toward the surely nonexistent finish line. In silence. Yes, this happened to me, and yes, I finished the race without the help of Rihanna or Drake or DJ Khaled. Sure, it was tough, but professional runners run without headphones all the time at much further distances than 5Ks. This had us wondering: is it even OK to listen to music while you run in the first place? We asked some experts.
The short answer is that it depends on who you ask, based on personal preference, and if you're running in a race with thousands of people vs. on the treadmill alone. Some road races will ban headphones for safety reasons, so check their rules beforehand to find out. If you know that a race you're doing doesn't allow headphones, maybe listen to music a little here and there, but don't rely on it, RRCA-certified running coach Marni Wasserman told POPSUGAR. "Train how you're going to race."
Reasons You Might Not Want to Listen to Music
Besides the fact that you don't want to be out of your element if a race prohibits earbuds and you've been reliant on playlists to get you through your miles, Roberto Mandje, head of training at New York Road Runners and former Olympic runner, suggests not wearing headphones because there's "a lot you can learn about yourself while running." For example, you can monitor your breathing and other body cues that you wouldn't necessarily be aware of with music playing, such as heavy footfalls that indicate you're feeling tired. Then, there's running etiquette and safety, Roberto explained. "This refers to which side of a running path you should run on in respect to other runners, cyclists, or other pedestrians. Not knowing isn't the end of the world, but having headphones on could prevent you from hearing a faster runner overtaking you shout, 'On your left!,' or any other last-minute heads up."
Marni agreed: "Outside, I don't run with headphones; I like to be aware of my surroundings." She does, though, listen to music when she's training indoors, but she said that for the first minute or two of her run, she strides in silence so she can check in with herself and assess if anything is hurting.
Reasons You Might Want to Listen to Music
Music can act as a tool, Marni said, because it can affect your pace and your energy. "If you're listening to a fast song, you're probably going to speed up, and if you're listening to a slow song, you're going to go a little slower," she explained. So you can use that to your advantage and change up the playlist depending on the type of run you're doing. For me, I know I need good pump-up songs to get me through a run. There's no question (case in point when I lost my Bluetooth connection during that 5K and felt my pace lag).
Tips For Learning to Run Without Headphones
If a race you're training for bans the use of headphones, or if you just want to focus more on your breath and don't want the distraction of your favorite artists in your ears, Marni suggests working on getting rid of music slowly. Try running for 10 minutes without headphones before letting yourself turn on Spotify. Then, a couple weeks later, run for 15 or 20 minutes without music, and start building up the time, Marni said. Also, it's helpful to find things that motivate you. "I like to visualize a lot, so I'll think about the races I want to do. I'll think about mile 20 of the marathon and still running strong, and I'll just play that through my head," she explained, adding, "It's different for everybody. Maybe you're just thinking about what you're going to eat after the run. That's totally fine, too." (For me, that's avocado toast.)
