You Probably Don’t Need This Cat-Butt Tissue Dispenser, but You Also Don’t Not Need It
Feeling the change in weather, but absolutely not looking forward to your usual flare-up of allergies? Make this year's incessant nose-blowing a little bit happier with this oh-so-bizarre Cat-Butt Tissue Holder ($35). Just place your standard-size tissue box inside of its butt, and you're good to go. The product description on Amazon's site actually says, "Makes getting tissues disturbing, but somehow fun!" and I don't know about you, but when I'm feeling that pressure mount up in my sinuses from a head cold or from pollen, I want something mildly disturbing to get me through it!
FYI: This Sparkling Rosé in a Can Is Low-Calorie, So It's Time to Celebrate!
The best thing about Summer day drinking: deliciously fruity drinks. The worst thing about Summer day drinking: the inevitable fruity drink midday hangover. However, just like the new Michelob Ultra Infusion Beer line, Archer Roose believes in creating adult beverages that are light, tasty, and perfectly suited for warm weather. This four-pack of Archer Roose Spritz Rosé Cans ($11) is definitely not your parents' stuffy wine - they don't require a corkscrew, wine glass, or any pretension to enjoy.
Instead, this sparkling rosé - sourced from a sustainable winery in Luberon, in the heart of Provence in France - offers the sweet taste of raspberries, lavender, and strawberries, and all for only 90 calories and a six percent ABV. The best part: unlike your typical bottle of rosé, these little spritzers won't leave you with a pounding headache.
Affordable, sustainably produced, and packaged with portability in mind, there's never been a better (or more delicious) way to rosé all day. Now go grab a four-pack and meet us on the beach!
The Prettiest Mosquito-Repelling Candles You've Ever Seen and Sniffed
Nothing ruins a beautiful Summer evening quite like mosquitoes. The pesky insects often seem to come out of nowhere, attacking every uncovered inch of your skin and leaving painful, itchy, red bites that are enough to keep you inside all season long. Not to mention the potential for spreading harmful diseases.
While mosquito-repellent candles are nothing new, they aren't always the prettiest addition to your decor. Luckily, you no longer have to choose between comfort and a perfectly accessorized space. These beautiful mosquito-repellent candles will give you the relief you need from those dreaded blood-suckers while giving your patio or deck some much-needed ambience.

Stars Were Dressed to Impress at Marc Jacobs and Char Defrancesco's Glamorous Wedding
Full suits, flowy dresses, and fun colors were all the rage at Marc Jacobs and Char Defrancesco's star-studded NYC wedding reception on Saturday. The celebration was fittingly a fashion spectacle, featuring celebrities such as the style-coordinated Hadid sisters, Naomi Campbell, and Anna Wintour. While some marched to the reception wearing structured looks, others sauntered in free-flowing ensembles.
As for Marc and Char, they, of course, looked dapper in suits with a special accessory: penguin jewelry pins made by Fabio Zambernardi. Marc shared an Instagram photo of the add-on to give his followers a closer look. "One of the pair of Art Deco Diamond and Onyx Penguins," he captioned the post. "Penguins have only one partner and mate for life. A great example of faithfulness and fidelity."
Look ahead to see even more amazing looks from the big day!
Last Season, You Couldn't Pay Me to Wear These Sandals - Now I Can't Pick a Favorite
I love being outside, but I refused to wear sporty sandals because, frankly, I thought they were ugly. But it's 2019, and I'm allowed to change my mind, especially when designers are coming out with shoes that are both comfortable and cool. Yes, they're chunky, but they add something decidedly fashion-forward to any look. Plus, it's impossible to ignore how kind they are to your feet. If you've been eyeing the trend, these 12 impossibly chic pairs will convince you to take the plunge.
I'm an A-Cup and I Finally Found a Flattering Swimsuit That Makes Me Feel Confident
I'm an A-cup and I have a butt, and finding a swimsuit that fits me perfectly feels impossible at times. The second we started getting some sun this year, I was already hunting for my new suit. I've splurged on $200 choices, one-pieces, and even a couple sexy bikinis, but time and time again I boxed them up and sent them right back. Just as I was ready to give up, I decided to give Reformation's new sustainable swimsuits a try. As a fan of the brand, it was easy to get behind the eco-friendly story - plus, the price was just right.
The Hermosa Bikini Top ($78) and Palms Bikini Bottoms ($58) were the pieces I finally decided on. I just wanted that one black bikini I could always turn to and would make me feel good no matter what . . . and this one ended up being perfect.
In jeans I'm normally a size 6 or 27, and I opted for a medium in the bottoms. They don't sag or cling too tightly, and they make my butt look good. The top in a size small was ideal for my tinier bust. My favorite feature: the top's front tie makes it so you can adjust it to the right fit for you.
The bikini top comes in several other colors and patterns, and the bottoms are available in a variety of different shapes. Keep scrolling to shop all the options and find your match.
Kendall Jenner's Minidress Still Manages to Have All the Things: Pink! Feathers! Ruffles!
Why wear one trend when you can manage to wear them all in a single garment? Kendall Jenner really went for it at the Tiffany & Co. flagship store opening in Sydney, Australia, on April 3. The model wore a pink off-the-shoulder taffeta minidress with ruffled sleeves and a feathery neckline - whew! deep breath - from the Ingie Paris Spring 2019 collection.
The look was unexpectedly ultrafeminine for Kendall, whose off-duty style tends to be more sporty. Kendall paired the dress with white pointed-toe pumps and a butterfly necklace by Tiffany & Co., of course. See photos of her fun appearance ahead, as well as the Ingie Paris look's runway debut.
Gigi Hadid Styled a Crystal-Encrusted Blazer With, Wait For It, UGG Boots!
Gigi Hadid is all about trying new trends, even if they're resurrected from past. The supermodel was seen in New York City wearing a bedazzled silver blazer with a striped pussybow blouse underneath. She completed her look with distressed denim, sporty sunglasses and the last pair of shoes we expected to see her in: black UGG boots. Her cozy boots were definitely a blast from the early '00s, but even Rihanna has been seen rocking the style this year. Read on to see her whole look, and buy similar versions of her shoes if you're feeling particularly inspired.
You'll Love Jameela Jamil's Style Even More Than Her Witty Comments
Jameela Jamil is quickly proving that her style is one to watch. Whether she's on the red carpet or taking selfies in a bathroom mirror, Jameela's style is as good as her witty commentary. Want proof? All you need to do is take a look at her Instagram. The Good Place actress has worn everything from a stunning Christian Siriano dress with studded combat boots to a chic animal-print Roberto Cavalli suit. She even wore a pair of combat boots with her Oscar de la Renta gown at the 2019 Critics' Choice Awards, because "comfort." Read on to see our favorite Instagram style moments ahead.
Jennifer Aniston's Heels Are So Wild, I'm Pretty Sure They're the Boldest Pair of Shoes in Her Closet
Jennifer Aniston always sticks to the basics when it comes to footwear. Chances are, you can probably find her either in a pair of fresh white sneakers or strappy Summer sandals that'll instantly have you wishing you were on vacation. Which is why when we saw her latest heels, we were not only shocked but we wanted to get a pair, stat. Jennifer was seen grabbing coffee with friends wearing a pair of brown wide-leg trousers with a short black jacket on top. She completed her look with a pair of leopard-print heels that we're completely wild about. Read on to take a closer look, and shop similar versions for your closet ahead.
Surely Sophie Turner's Latest Look Is Enough to Secure Her the Iron Throne
The cast of Game of Thrones celebrated the end of an era on Wednesday night, when they came together for the premiere of the final season of the HBO show. Though they'll no doubt reunite as we head toward the finale, this epic event did mark one of the last times we'll see the whole cast together, so it's no surprise they all pulled out the stops when it came to their outfits.
Sophie Turner, who arrived on the arm of her fiancé Joe Jonas, was one such star, picking a Louis Vuitton look first shown less than a month ago during Paris Fashion Week. The Fall/Winter 2019 look comprises a plunging zip-front bustier top with a star print and a black lace skirt with embroidered silver spots, and Sophie teamed it with black sandals with Perspex heels and some seriously stunning diamond earrings. Not only did Sophie's look complement her beau's gray Prince of Wales check suit, it also matched her best friend (and future maid of honor) Maisie Williams's similar black and silver Miu Miu gown. Keep reading to see for yourself, then get a look at some of Sophie's other sexy red carpet moments.
How Chef and Reality TV Star Mia Castro Brings Her Puerto Rican Heritage to Her Cooking
Once in a while you'll come across women who are so unapologetically themselves, you can't help but feel inspired by them. It doesn't hurt if they're also extremely successful and not only making strides to reach the top of their craft in a male-dominated industry, but do it with a little Latina flair. I'm talking about chef Mia Castro.
If her name sounds familiar it's because she competed in season 13 of Food Network's Chopped when she was only 23 years old. She made it to the final round where she was defeated by Royden Ellamar, executive chef of Sensi (now Harvest) at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. Now 28, she recently competed on the 18th season of Fox TV's hit show Hell's Kitchen, hosted by world-renowned chef Gordon Ramsay. As one of the youngest contestants, she again earned a spot in the final, only to be defeated by chef Ariel Contreras-Fox. But that hasn't stopped Mia, who now works now full time as a private chef in NYC.
POPSUGAR caught up with this hardworking Puerto Rican, who has continued inspiring us as she makes strides and positions herself as one of the best chefs in the country.
POPSUGAR: When did you know you wanted to be a chef?
Mia Castro: About a year before high school graduation. I was forced to decide what field I wanted to specialize in. Cooking had always been a passion and hobby of mine, so it was only fitting to pursue culinary school.
PS: What would you say is your style? What do you enjoy cooking the most?
MC: When it comes to food, my philosophy is "less is more." I like to cook with fresh ingredients, and allow those to speak for themselves and shine on their own, only applying techniques that will enhance them.
Risotto is one of my favorite things to cook and I've gotten to practice and perfect my technique through the years. It is a great canvas to showcase seasonal ingredients.
PS: How has your background influenced your cooking style?
MC: I grew up cooking with ingredients that were hand-picked by my grandparents from their yard and now focus my cooking on highlighting fresh, wholesome products. I think it's safe to say my background is what propelled my entire career.
PS: What are your favorite foods to eat?
MC: Fresh, handmade pasta and rice. All the carbs, really. And ice cream, duh!
PS: What's your go-to dish?
MC: White rice with a runny, over-easy egg to mix in. It was my mom's go-to dish when she was tired from work, so I think it's comforting because it reminds me of her. And now, as a busy adult, I understand why it was hers and I appreciate it even more.
PS: Do you play music when you cook? If so, what's on your playlist?
MC: I love music when I cook, and also wine! What I listen to depends on my mood. Saturday and Sunday mornings are the days when I'm more likely to get in the kitchen and elaborate as a hobby. If I do, I'm probably in a chill, ready-to-relax-and-unwind kind of mood. In these instances, I love Latin reggae bands like Cultura Profética, and also Latin pop and bolero singers such as Vicente Garcia, Carla Morrison, and Natalia Lafourcade. If I'm feeling energized and find myself moving to the music, I'll play some salsa by El Gran Combo, Rubén Blades, and Marc Anthony, or some merengue by Juan Luis Guerra.
PS: You've been hustling since a very young age, competing against established chefs when you were 23 and now again at 28. What was the key to surviving those competitions?
MC: Working hard, surrounding myself with positive, constructive influences, learning from my only-human mistakes, and learning to recognize negative influences in order to ignore any crap they may try to throw my way. Sorry, but it's true.
PS: Women, and especially Latina women, have to fight extra hard in order to claim our rightful space in any industry we choose to work in, sometimes resulting in people categorizing us as "arrogant" or "bitchy." Have you experienced this type of issue, and how have you addressed it?
MC: Of course I have, and that's OK. Thankfully I only care about how I feel about myself at the end of the day and not what others think or say about me. I'm a no BS kind of girl, and those who truly know me know I mean business. That's the reason why I've achieved so much at my age. Because of my work ethic, goal-mindedness, professionalism, and enthusiasm to learn, excel, and push my own personal boundaries, I've earned the respect of people I look up to, and those are the people whose opinion I like to focus on.
PS: Does it bother you when people call you arrogant?
MC: Not at all. It just shows they don't truly know me because the ones who do and don't want to bring me down have a different word for it: confident.
PS: Do you feel like your personality has gotten in the way or helped your success?
MC: It has helped me succeed all the way. Being in this industry has helped me grow a thick skin, but I always try to remain who I am as long as what others say or do doesn't affect my work-life quality. I may look sweet, nice, and smiley, but I will never allow anyone to walk over me or push me around. And I think I've proven I can stand up for myself.
PS: What advice would you give young chefs trying to get established in the industry?
MC: People who try to bring you down are probably jealous or scared that your success will dull or affect theirs. Always focus on yourself and your goals - not others. Don't stop learning - be a sponge! Find ways to improve yourself and your work, and don't pay attention to anyone who tells you you're not good enough, because it's probably a reflection of themselves.
PS: What has been the best life advice you've received and how have you applied it to your career?
MC: My Godmother Tatiana - may she rest in peace - would always tell me: "A genius will learn from others' mistakes, an intelligent person will learn from their own mistakes and, well, someone who is less than that, won't ever learn." Her advice always resonated with me and I try to apply it to my entire life in order to become a better person and professional. I always observe others and try to learn good habits and recognize bad ones to avoid making mistakes. But making mistakes is human and inevitable so, in that case, I strive to always be at the very least intelligent. I like to believe that was her point.
PS: What's next for chef Mia?
MC: One request I always get is, "When can I taste your food?" So, I will be cooking at the Saborea Festival in Puerto Rico from April 4 to 7, and will hopefully do a pop-up dining experience in New York soon for press and meet-and-greets. I'm also working very hard right now on a few projects that are currently being developed and involve getting some fresh, personal content out. Hopefully a cookbook and more TV soon!.
Oreo Is Releasing a New Flavor Inspired by the Best Ice Cream Flavor of All Time
It is a widely accepted truth that mint chocolate chip is the best ice cream flavor, and soon you'll be able to enjoy it in Oreo form. Baskin Robbins Mint Chocolate Chip Oreos are reportedly hitting shelves sometime this year, and they are not messing around. There's a layer of chocolate creme and a layer of mint-flavored creme studded with chocolate chips, which is all sandwiched between two original chocolate cookies. The news was first rumored in late 2018, and now snack-focused Instagrammers like Junk Banter have gotten their hands on an early package. There's no official release date yet, but here's hoping these taste just as good as the Oreos inspired by strawberry shortcake ice cream bars.

Here's Exactly How to Hand-Wash Your Favorite Sweaters So They Don't Ruin or Stretch
Anyone who's ever done laundry knows how delicate some items can be. Whether it's lacy intimates or bulky knit sweaters, sometimes the washer and dryer aren't exactly kind to your favorite items of clothing. And unfortunately, you can only wear sweaters so many times before they start to be in need of a refresh. When it comes to pullovers, cardigans, and other knits, the idea of washing them by hand can seem tedious, but spending the time can be worth it to avoid a snag or tear. From cashmere to wool, and even down to polyester, this is a great hand-washing method for your coziest clothes!
1. Wash Sweaters in the Sink
Before you wash any sweater by hand, turn it inside out. This can help to prevent any pilling or friction in the fibers. Next, fill a clean sink (or bathtub, if you're doing a few sweaters at a time) with lukewarm water and a mild soap, shampoo, or dish soap. It's important not to use water that's too hot or too cold to avoid shrinkage or stretching. If it's been a really long time since you last washed your sweater, add a bit of white vinegar to get rid of body odor. Make sure the sweater is fully immersed in the water, then let it soak for about 10 to 15 minutes. For tough stains, gently work in a stain remover (I personally swear by OxiClean!) with your hands and let the sweater soak again.
2. Dry Sweaters Carefully
When the sweater has had time to soak, rinse it with clean water. Then, squeeze as much of the water out as possible by wringing it out gently, being careful not to stretch the sweater. You can put some sweaters in the dryer on a low spin cycle for five minutes to get more moisture out; just check your sweater's label to be sure. Sweaters are best left to dry on a flat, hard surface with a clean towel underneath, out of the sun and heat.
3. Avoid Clothes Hangers
When it's dry, fold the sweater neatly and place it in a drawer or on a shelf. Never hang sweaters on clothes hangers, as this can cause stretching and leave your sweaters misshapen - sometimes irreversibly. A neatly folded sweater will stay fresh and wrinkle-free, and will be good as new when you're ready to wear it again.
Is Your Home in Need of a Fixer Upper? Take a Look at Magnolia Home's Spring Collection
It's no secret that HGTV couple Chip and Joanna Gaines have been in high demand since the conclusion of their show, Fixer Upper, back in 2017. The pair are a match made in heaven, not only due to their quirky and fun relationship, but also for their ability to turn any home into a charming, modern farmhouse - or you know, whatever style their client is looking for. Since the end of their show, it's needless to say the renovation dream team has kept busy, as they've recently agreed to design one of Jennifer Lopez's homes, have written three books, and are managing their massive Magnolia brand, all while producing new decor through their Hearth and Hand line at Target. The list goes on, but one thing is clear - people love the Gaineses.
We browsed their Magnolia website to check out their Spring collection, and, in the name of shiplap, we promise it's lust-worthy. Scroll through all of their desirable rustic products ahead!
Latte-Flavored Oreo Thins Are Coming Soon, and OMG, Where Have These Been All My Life?!
Oreo has released many a wacky flavor in its day, which is why it's pretty crazy to think that one of the brand's newest flavors hasn't existed until now. According to an Instagram photo shared by blogger The Junk Food Aisle, Oreo is gearing up to release latte-flavored Oreo Thins, which means that you'll now see your obsession with coffee and cookies married into one. The new cookies are made with a latte-flavored creme sandwiched between two thin and crispy Oreo cookie wafers. They'll officially be available to purchase nationwide in June, and instead of limited roll-out, the cookies will actually be a permanent part of Oreo's extensive lineup. I guess I'll be counting down the days until Summer now for more reasons than one.

Love Game of Thrones? OkCupid Will Now Let You Prove It With a Badge on Your Profile
Winter is coming soon, and so is a potential new love interest if you're serious about a new app feature that OkCupid just introduced. For the people out there who think having a partner who doesn't share an interest in Game of Thrones is a deal-breaker, the dating app recently rolled out a feature that will allow users who watch the HBO drama to display badges on their profiles that say so. What a time to be alive.
According to a post on OkCupid's official blog, the idea was inspired by the over two million mentions of the show on user profiles. Because of people's interest in bonding over discussing who should sit on the Iron Throne, OkCupid also introduced GoT-related prompts for users to respond to when they initially make their profiles.
"We're so excited to be the first dating app to match people on their favorite TV show - starting with Game of Thrones," Melissa Hobley, OkCupid's chief marketing officer, said in a statement. "We're all about matching on what matters - and what matters to millions of people around the world is what they're watching."
Game of Thrones officially returns on April 14, and if you're looking for someone to watch the final season premiere with, you're definitely gonna want to take advantage of this. Read ahead to get a peek at how the badges will look in action.

Forgot Your iPhone Passcode? Here’s How to Get Back In
It happens to the best of us - you grab your iPhone to check your email or scroll through Instagram, but your brain completely blanks when it comes to your passcode. You've typed it in hundreds of times before, but having what seems like a million passwords for every site, portal, bank account, and channel can sometimes make them all melt into each other. Yikes! So what do you do?
Unfortunately (or fortunately, if you're worried about your phone falling into the wrong hands), Apple hasn't made it easy to get around a forgotten passcode. In order to get back into your phone, you need to perform a restore, which erases all the data on the phone, including photos (this is why backing up data on your phone is so essential!). If everything is backed up, which you can do through iTunes or by paying for Apple's iCloud service, your phone will look just like it did before the restore.
When you're ready to perform a restore, here's how:
- Connect your phone to your computer.
- Open (or download and then open) iTunes.
- While the device is connected, do a force restart (for iPhone 8 and iPhone X, this is done by pressing then quickly releasing the volume up button, pressing then quickly releasing the volume down button, then pressing and holding the side button until you see the recovery-mode screen).
- On your computer, you'll see the option to update or restore. Choose restore.
And voila! Your phone is back in service and you'll (hopefully) never forget your password again.
This Handy Little Trick Lets You Take Photos on Your iPhone Even When Your Storage Is Full
Raise your hand if this has happened to you at least once: you're at an exciting event or spending time with friends, you go to snap a quick photo, and you're greeted with one of the most annoying iPhone prompts ever - "iPhone Storage Full." You frantically go through your camera roll and delete old selfies and the thousands of candid photos you have of your sleeping pet to make some extra room. But it's too late - by the time you're able to take a photo, the moment has already passed.
Well, what if there was a trick to taking more photos on your iPhone even when it tells you its storage is full? As it turns out, there is an easy way to remedy this (if you don't have extra time to delete old content, that is). All you have to do is open up one of your social media apps - could be Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook, click on the camera icon, and take a photo. The image will then be automatically saved to your camera roll - pretty great, right?
Of course, if you want to avoid getting the "iPhone Storage Full" message repeatedly, you're going to have to manage your iPhone storage so that it can free up more space, which isn't as complicated as it sounds.
I Was in an Emotionally Abusive Relationship, and I Didn't Even Realize It
At 23 years old, I fell fast and hard for an outgoing, charismatic man. When we began dating, he made me feel special, beautiful, and loved. I decided that any negative aspect of our relationship didn't matter because he loved me so much - there was a reasonable explanation for all of it. So when he proposed to me after almost a year of dating, I was overjoyed. I found a guy who wanted to commit his life to me. We were going to build a future together.
Six months into our engagement, that image of our life crumbled to pieces. My fiancé decided that he didn't want to marry me anymore, and it felt like a tragedy. I dreaded telling my friends and family; I was devastated. But their reactions to my news were not what I expected at all. One friend broke into tears. Another told me she was proud of me. My family felt guilty that they had let the relationship progress as much as it did.
They were relieved that my engagement to this man was over. Everyone had been scared for me, and I didn't get why. I was confused.
Everyone had been scared for me, and I didn't get why. I was confused.
This was the worst thing that had ever happened to me, wasn't it? But then, loved ones started telling me of times when they wish they had said something to me. Times when my fiancé would put me down or yell at me in public. And as more people stepped forward and told me that ending this relationship was a good thing (including this guy's own close friends), I came to a horrifying realization.
I was emotionally abused, and I could not admit to myself that it was happening at the time.
There were glimmers of problems from the beginning of our relationship, but I made the choice to ignore them. He would say little things to me or shout for a moment, but I brushed it off. It didn't become bad until we moved in together a month after our engagement.
My friends only saw what was happening in front of them, but behind closed doors it was even worse.
The first memory I have of definitive emotional abuse was an evening just a week or two after we moved into our apartment. We were sitting at the bar below our place having a drink when I noticed that he was getting Snapchats from a girl he nicknamed Kate Upton in his phone. I had mentioned to him once before that this made me uncomfortable, so when I saw that she had popped up once again, I questioned him about it. And he became furious with me.
He immediately stomped up the stairs to our apartment, and I quickly followed behind. He was livid. He told me I was ridiculous and jealous for questioning if he would be inappropriately interacting with another girl. And I felt terrible that I would ever question him - we were getting married, after all.
But the more I cried and apologized, the more he screamed at me.
But the more I cried and apologized, the more he screamed at me. I began to have a panic attack and I melted down to the ground, curled up in a ball in the hallway. But instead of stopping the yelling, he stood over me and continued to scream. I started hyperventilating. He told me I was faking it and I was pathetic. After he finished the shouting, he walked away from me. We were silent for about 20 minutes, then we got into bed and went to sleep. The next morning, he said he was sorry, but I needed to calm down with my emotions. So in the end, I was the one apologizing for what transpired the night before.
This was not a one-time thing. There were many more fights like this. And in the end I was always the one made to feel guilty. How dare I ever question him - he proposed to me. How could I do that to him? I was disgusted with myself for doubting him on a regular basis. I told myself that it was my anxiety making me paranoid.
But the screaming wasn't the only problem. This man would criticize me, put me down, and make me feel small constantly. If he didn't like something I was wearing, he would make sure I knew it. He told me I wasn't very funny and he didn't get why my friends laughed at me. He would constantly belittle me for being clumsy. I was afraid to spill something in front of him.
Another problem entirely was his lack of respect for people close to him. I watched him yell at his family on a regular basis over the tiniest things. He started off being incredibly close with my parents (they even helped him pick out my engagement ring), but as soon as we started planning the wedding, everything changed.
I started gaining weight. I became very quiet at work. I saw less of my friends. I felt bad about myself, but I didn't understand why. Wedding planning was not fun; I found it stressful. Like always, I told myself it was all in my head.
He had a lot of opinions about how he envisioned our wedding should be, and if my parents or I had a differing opinion, he was angry about it. We weren't putting a dime of our own money into the big day, so I felt weird about his resentment toward any ideas other than his own. When I tried to tell him that, he would tell me I was wrong. "Don't you love me because I have a lot of opinions?" he would say.
He stopped visiting my family with me. When I mentioned my parents, he would make snide remarks about them. I stopped talking about them altogether because it made me uncomfortable. My family loved me, and all they were trying to do was give us a dream wedding.
I loved this guy so much that I didn't care how I was feeling on the inside.
I loved this guy so much that I didn't care how I was feeling on the inside. I would do anything for him, and he knew that. So when he told me he was unhappy in our relationship, I asked him what I could do to fix that. All he could say was that he didn't know.
Eventually he told me that proposing to me was a mistake, but he wanted me to stay with him to see if we could work things out. More specifically, if I could fix all the things that were "wrong with me." And I did stay for a while. I so desperately wanted him to wake up and realize that no woman would love him the way I did. But he went about every day like things were normal, and I woke up every morning filled with dread, unsure of my future.
I asked him what was going on with our relationship a couple times, and each time it would result in an intense fight where we would part ways and stay with our families for a night or two. He told me I was impossible to talk to because I was too emotional.
After a weekend without hearing from him, I texted him asking if we could meet at the apartment and talk. His response - "Why?" I told him we needed to figure out what was going on, and he told me it wasn't a good thing for him personally to talk to me. We ended things.
I said I was moving out, so he went through everything I owned and put it in the middle of the family room. "I hope I made it a little easier for you," he said. While I sat at my parents' house (my new temporary home) and cried for a week straight, I received texts and calls from all over town - people told me he was out drinking most nights with his friends. They were confused by his actions. It hurt.
He blocked me and my friends from every social media platform. But that didn't stop the awful screenshots of his tweets bragging about going out and joking about needing a wingman. Even his friends were not loyal to him because they knew he turned me into a shell of the person I used to be.
A week later, on top of everything I had just gone through, I learned that he was not faithful to me. He was sending all sorts of photos of his penis to another girl before we were even engaged. Several people who knew about the exchanges informed me, even providing physical proof that the "other girl" admitted to all of it.
When I confronted him and his parents about his infidelity (bravest thing I've ever done, by the way), he pulled me to the side and asked me why I was trying to ruin his life. "We're done, Macy," he shouted at me. "You're trying to cause drama."
But I wasn't trying to cause drama. For the first time in my life, I was standing up to him. He had made me feel so guilty for questioning him all this time. And that feeling in the pit of my stomach was right all along. After trying to protect him and our relationship for a year and a half of my life, I was done. I missed who I used to be. I missed being happy. I realized that I had dedicated a huge period of my life trying to make sure I didn't make someone mad, and I was exhausted.
Why am I telling you this story? Because I know there are other people out there like me. People who lose themselves in the name of love, even if that love isn't healthy. Nobody deserves to be screamed at. Nobody deserves to be berated. I didn't understand that before, but I certainly know it now.
I was so scared to write about my experience, but now I feel empowered by it.
I was so scared to write about my experience, but now I feel empowered by it. I wanted to protect my former fiancé because a part of me still loves him, but I'm finished doing that now. I am trying to remind myself that yes, I am smart, funny, and strong. I didn't feel like I was any of those things for a long time. I'm having a hard time telling myself that now, but I will believe it again soon.
If you feel like you're being emotionally abused, trust your gut. Don't make excuses for it like I did. Learn from me. Talk to someone you trust. You may feel like you can't live without your partner, but you can. It will hurt. I'm still hurting every single day. But little by little, you will find yourself again. You won't believe you lived the way you did because of how happy you are now. And you will be stronger for it.
