The Spring Fragrances That Make Our Editors Feel All Kinds of Sexy

Fragrance has always punched above its weight in terms of sex appeal potential, but lately, perfume brands are turning it waaaay up, especially for Spring. It makes sense; this is the season where people - minus anyone with allergies, who effectively turns into a social pariah and probably buys Kleenex wholesale - are wearing fewer clothes, enjoying the sunshine, and (quite literally) stopping to smell the roses.

Hello, Hi, This Tortoiseshell Makeup Deserves Your Attention - Here's How to Re-Create It

Tortoiseshell: it might remind you of those glasses that your mom made you wear as a child (which have since come back into fashion) or it might remind you of that adorable neighborhood cat that roams around your street. But for us beauty enthusiasts, tortoiseshell is the newest inspiration for, well, everything. First there came tortoiseshell hair, then our nails got involved, and now it's making its way into your makeup routine. Yep, the trend has made its way onto our eyelids, and we couldn't be happier.

The stylish brown and black pattern looks like leopard print's distant cousin who has a cute accent, lives in a stylish studio apartment, and has an espresso machine. It's also pretty easy to re-create according to its birth mom. Makeup artist Alexandria shared her tortoiseshell eye makeup on Instagram, and it's one of our new favorites. The inspiration behind the look? Apparently it was her boyfriend's idea. Good work, boyfriend.

Alexandria gave POPSUGAR all the details on how to re-create this look. Firstly, she brushed up her (probably already incredibly perfect looking) brows and filled them in with Benefit Cosmetics Ka Brow in shade 3 ($24). Then using three eye-shadow palettes (props to Alexandria for actually using palettes rather than just hoarding them), Lorac Cosmetics Pro Palette ($44), Give Me Glow Cosmetics Summer Vibes Palette ($54), and Kat Von D Beauty Mi Vida Loca Palette, she started with a white base followed by yellow and created a wing shape - we recommend using some tape to create a line sharper than your neighborhood tortie's nails. She then added some spots of black eyeliner using Urban Decay Eyeliner in Perversion ($22) and blended the edges with dark brown eye shadow, followed by an orange/red shade into the yellow. To finish, she cleaned everything up with some concealer and a flat brush.

Her look has already been re-created once, and we bet it won't be long before this trend ends up all over your Instagram feed.

Wish You Were at Meghan Markle's Baby Shower? SNL's Version Is Pretty Amazing

Meghan Markle's due date is fast-approaching, so Saturday Night Live decided to throw her a baby shower. In its April 14 episode hosted by Emma Stone, Prince Harry, portrayed by Mikey Day, walks through the baby shower in a home video he'll later show the royal baby.

Meghan unfortunately isn't actually shown in the sketch, plenty of other notable guests make appearances. There's James Corden, 21 Savage, and Harry's ex-girlfriend, portrayed by host Emma, who's doing great these days - just ask her! "Your dad broke up with me on WhatsApp. I'm so busy, and happy . . . I don't want to be a duchess and live in a big house for free," she says to the camera. Prince William is of course also there, except he's dressed as Freddie Mercury after Harry told him the party had an '80s theme.

Since we might never get this kind of inside look at the real-life royal baby shower, this sketch will have to do. Check out a clip above.

Emma Stone Gets Sentimental During Her Fourth Time Hosting Saturday Night Live

In case you hadn't heard, Emma Stone is celebrating her fourth time hosting Saturday Night Live. Oh, but don't worry, she'll keep making that fact known. On April 13, the actress opened the show with a monologue that poked fun at the lacking pomp and circumstance that four-time hosts receive compared to five-timers.

"SNL has always been such a huge part of my family's life," Emma said at the start of her monologue. She then went on to sweetly point out her mom and grandmother were in attendance. She added, "My real family is meeting my SNL family." It's also worth noting Emma is dating SNL writer Dave McCary.

While it seems Emma assumed the cast might have put together a special surprise for her fourth episode, they did not. Cut to Kenan Thompson and Kate McKinnon scrambling to come up with a song on the spot ("I remember when she used to host, and now she is hosting . . . Oh, Emma she hosts.") and Melissa Villaseñor tricking Emma with her celebrity impressions. Hey, at least next time she'll get the real five-timer treatment.

Lauren London Gives a Heartbreaking Eulogy at Late Boyfriend Nipsey Hussle's Memorial

Thousands of people gathered at LA's Staples Center for Nipsey Hussle's (born Ermias Asghedom) Celebration of Life memorial service on Thursday afternoon. One of them was the rapper's longtime love, Lauren London, who delivered a heartbreaking eulogy. Dressed all in white, the 34-year-old actress read an emotional text that she sent to Nipsey back in January. "Ermias, I want you to know that I feel real joy in my heart when I'm around you. I feel safe around you, protected, like a shield over me when you're around," she said. "I love you so much unconditionally. My truth is this: I'm never going to give up on you. My love and my devotion is to you."

Lauren - who was in attendance with their 2-year-old son, Kross - then praised Nipsey, calling him "the strongest man that I ever knew" and "a divine light." "Ermias always used to say that you can't possess people, that you experience them, and I'm so honored and blessed that I got to experience such a man," Lauren continued. "To Ermias, the love of my life, you know what it is. Grief is the final act of love. My heart hears you, I feel you everywhere, I'm so grateful that I had you. I love you beyond this Earth."

The somber event brought out Nipsey's closest friends and family, including celebrities like Beyoncé, JAY-Z, G-Eazy, Meek Mill, and Cassie. Barack Obama also wrote a touching letter for the memorial, which was read at the beginning of the service by hip-hop media personality Karen Civil.

Nipsey was fatally shot outside of his Marathon Clothing store in LA on March 31. He was 33. Nipsey and Lauren had been together since 2013 and welcomed Kross in 2016. They also parented Lauren's 9-year-old son, Cameron Carter, from her previous relationship with Lil Wayne, as well as Nipsey's daughter Emani. Following the event, Lauren revealed that she got a tattoo of the late rapper on one of her arms. "Real Love Never Dies," she wrote on Instagram. "When you see me, you will always see him #LoveYouHussle." Our hearts go out to Lauren and her family!

Why Is Pet Sematary Spelled Like That? There's a Simple, but Creepy Answer

As an entertainment journalist, there are certain movie and TV series titles that make my job harder than others. Jordan Peele's recently released Us, for example. (And This Is Us, for that matter.) Netflix's You is another one. Despite being short and simple, it makes writing headlines a little bit of a pain. But the latest contender is annoying for a reason that should become immediately clear as soon as you lay eyes on it: Pet Sematary. Why, oh why, is it spelled like that?!

The 2019 reboot of Stephen King's classic, terrifying story - which was first published in 1983 and adapted for the big screen in 1989 - is now in theaters. Which means that it's now all over social media, in giant headlines on ads in the city where I live, and plastered all over freaky commercials that will keep me awake for a week straight (at least). But in addition to being creeped out by all the screeching cats and zombie children, the heinous spelling of "cemetery" is also enough to give me chills. In order to explain why King opted for an unorthodox spelling, I need to shade in a few of the plot details for you.

The horror film follows Louis Creed (Jason Clarke), who moves into a sprawling rural home in Ludlow, ME, with his wife, Rachel (Amy Seimetz) and their two young children, 8-year-old Ellie (Jeté Laurence) and toddler Gage (twins Hugo Lavoie and Lucas Lavoie). Not long after they arrive, their neighbor Jud Crandall (John Lithgow) informs them about the eerie pet cemetery located in the woods bordering their home, which isn't your average burial place for beloved cats and dogs. Instead, when dead pets are buried on a plot of land just beyond the pet cemetery in the woods (which used to be a burial ground for the Micmac tribe), sometimes they come back, albeit in a much more aggressive, evil, zombie-like state.

Even though the Creeds live on the land, kids from Ludlow have no problem roaming freely as they perform burial rites for their deceased pets (they wear animal masks, beat a drum, and a ton of other stuff that will make you never want to procreate). If you've read any of King's work, then you know that creepy children are a trope that he loves to infuse his stories with, from The Shining to Children of the Corn. The film doesn't really get into this, but he expands more on the band of kids who use the cemetery more in his novel.

When the kids in town discovered that the land brought their pets back to life, they took a bit of ownership of the graveyard and continued the tradition of covering their pets in the soil there over the years. In the story, the burial ground full of necromantic power is able to revive animals such as bulls, cats (RIP Church!), and dogs. The remake's version of Jud mentions that his childhood dog Biffer (who was "a hell of a sniffer") was buried there, but came back far meaner and more aggressive than he was before, leading to his father putting him down (again).

In King's novel, a soldier named Timmy Baterman is buried in the cemetery by his grieving father, and comes back possessed by the Wendigo - the demon who possess the cemetery. Jud and other townspeople beg Timmy's father to kill his reanimated son, which he eventually does before taking his own life.

Because these young kids became the cemetery's caretakers, so to speak, they're also the ones who wrote the sign that reads "Pet Sematary" - the spelling error can simply be chalked up to the fact that a young child who doesn't have a perfect handle on the English language is the one who painted it.

What's even more interesting is King's connection to a pet cemetery he encountered in his own life. The author has said the inspiration for this story came from real life, which he explains in the forward of later editions of his book. Fresh off the success of Carrie, the author was invited to be a writer in residence and professor at the University of Maine at Orono in the late 1970s, which also happens to be his alma mater. He promptly moved his family to a rural home in Orrington, MI, that abutted a road that frequently had big trucks zooming by. As a result several lives of the local pets were claimed, and the kids established a pet cemetery in the woods. According to King, he visited it and saw that it really was marked by sign that read "Pet Sematary."

So, in short, even though my eye twitches every time I read it, I can totally understand why King chose to go with that spelling. (It doesn't mean I can forgive him for all the nightmares he's left me with after seeing Pet Sematary, but I digress.)

Game of Thrones: How Many Clues Can You Find in Maren Morris's New Song About Season 8?

Over the course of the past seven seasons of Game of Thrones, the music has consisted of a gorgeous, haunting score composed by musical genius Ramin Djawadi. Tracks like the show's pounding main theme and the chilling season six finale score, "Light of the Seven," have now reached icon status. But with the final season of the HBO fantasy series on the cusp of its premiere, the network decided to mark the occasion by getting A-list artists like SZA, Ellie Goulding, Maren Morris, The Weeknd, and more to record brand new original songs for an epic season eight soundtrack.

Columbia Records and HBO announced in early April that the album, For The Throne, will debut on April 26. But with the eighth season's premiere just days away, we've been blessed with a special treat in the form of Morris's song from the album, titled "Kingdom of One." The ballad is stunning - to be fair, Maren Morris's voice could make even the "Itsy Bitsy Spider" sound like a Grammy contender, let's be real - and features lyrics that hint at sacrificing everything you love for ambition, "cold nights" that "take your life," and other relevant themes that make sense in the context of the show. Perhaps the most telling is the chorus, though:

"So you wanna play God? Come on
Is that all you got? Come on
Would you sell your soul? Burn it all
Everything that you love
Finally become second to none
In a kingdom of one"

Pretty ominous, no? Listen to the song in full ahead to see if you can pick up on any clues about season eight, then keep reading to get all the lyrics.

Maren Morris "Kingdom of One" Lyrics

[Verse 1]
First light, a sacrifice
Bird's eye, saw the signs
Cold nights will take your life
Reach out and touch your faith
Give up on everything
To carry the world on a string

[Pre-Chorus]
All you can give, all you can beg
All that you longed for, nothing compares
When nothing is sacred, no one is safe

[Chorus]
So you wanna play God? Come on
Is that all you got? Come on
Would you sell your soul? Burn it all
Everything that you love
Finally become second to none
In a kingdom of one

[Verse 2]
Dig down, far below
Lost souls, feed the crows
Hell's fire keeps you warm

[Pre-Chorus]
All you can give, all you can beg
Look to your heart, but nothing is there
When nothing is sacred, no one is safe

[Chorus]
So you wanna play God? Come on
Is that all you got? Come on
Would you sell your soul? Burn it all
Everything that you love
Finally become second to none
In a kingdom of one
In a kingdom of one

[Bridge]
Come on
Come on
Come on
Come on

[Chorus]
So you wanna play God? Come on
Is that all you got? Come on
Would you sell your soul? Burn it all
Everything that you love
Ash to ash, dust to dust
Everything in God above
Shed a tear, shed your blood
No, you cannot give enough
Finally become second to none
In a kingdom of one

The Real Legend of the Wendigo in Pet Sematary Is Actually Pretty Terrifying

Warning: spooky spoilers for Pet Sematary ahead!

Stephen King's Pet Sematary has returned to the big screen, and the 2019 reboot of the terrifying story - which King originally published in 1983 and was also adapted in a 1989 film - makes a few big updates to its source material. But for the most part, it's a faithful retelling of the core story, down to the chilling inclusion of an ancient creature known as the Wendigo.

If you're familiar with King's book or the new horror film, then you know that the story follows the Creed family as they move from Boston to a big farmhouse on a sprawling, 50-acre piece of land in the small town of Ludlow. Unfortunately their property includes the cursed "pet sematary," where kids from Ludlow perform creepy burial rites for their deceased pets (they wear animal masks, beat a drum, and a ton of other stuff that will make you never want to procreate).

As the patriarch of the Creeds, Louis (Jason Clarke) is tasked with burying his daughter Ellie's beloved cat, Church, after it gets hit by a tractor trailer just beyond their driveway. His neighbor Jud (John Lithgow), a lifelong Ludlow resident, takes him aside and fills him in on a little nugget of eerie history about the Creeds's new property: if you walk into the woods beyond the pet sematary and bury your dead pet in a certain plot of land, the animal will return. (It will be an extremely f*cked up, angry, mean version of your pet, which Jud conveniently neglects to tell Louis.)

So, what fuels the dark magic of the land? According to Jud, Native Americans used to occupy the land but eventually fled to escape the hellish presence of the Wendigo. In both Pet Sematary and in The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, King features the primal demon as an antagonist, of sorts, and explains that it haunted the Algonquian tribe, as well as the Micmacs and others. It's also responsible for cursing the land that now brings things back from the dead.

The Origins of the Wendigo

The Wendigo hails from legends of the Algonquin-speaking peoples: the Ojibwe, the Saulteaux, the Cree, the Naskapi, and the Innu. It's sometimes depicted in legends as a tall, hunched over, moose or deer-like creature with huge antlers that stands on two feet. Sometimes its body is rotted away, exposing its bones and innards, and other times it's seen as more of a blurry black shadow. It is also said to appear as a monster with humanoid characteristics, or merely as a spirit that possesses an actual human and makes them engage in similarly evil, monstrous behavior.

The mythical creature would devour humans and animals, and was native to the northeastern forests of North America, stretching all the way up from the United States into Canada. The Wendigo is historically associated with traits and themes like murder, overwhelming greed, cannibalism, and environmental destruction.

What Does the Wendigo Have to Do With Pet Sematary?

As legend has it, the Wendigo inhabited the north east all the way up to Canada, and was able to command any living creature in its domain (or at least have a strong influence over it). In King's stories, the creature eventually encountered the Micmac burial ground in Maine, which would eventually become part of the town of Ludlow.

In Pet Sematary, it's explained that the Wendigo cursed the Micmac burial ground that the Creeds eventually live on, making sure that any corpse laid to rest in the soil there would reanimate within a day as a murderous, evil shell of their former self. (And sometimes, they'd become cannibals.) Unsurprisingly, the Micmac tribe abandoned Ludlow.

The burial ground full of necromantic power is able to revive animals such as bulls, cats (RIP Church!), and dogs. Jud mentions that his childhood dog Biffer (who was "a hell of a sniffer") was buried there, but came back far meaner and more aggressive than he was before, leading to his father putting him down (again). In King's novel, a soldier named Timmy Baterman is buried in the Micmac cemetery by his grieving father, and comes back possessed by the Wendigo. Jud and other townspeople beg Timmy's father to kill his reanimated son, which he eventually does before taking his own life.

In the 2019 remake, the Wendigo isn't featured as prominently as in the book. It's mentioned briefly by Jud during a chat with Louis as they page through a book about Native American legends around their part of Maine, and can be heard roaring in the woods as they take Church's body to the burial ground. It roars again when Louis carries his daughter's dead body there, too, and he stares through the woods and seems to glimpse a shadow of the creature. It never fully appears onscreen in the flesh, though.

The Wendigo in Other Pieces of Pop Culture

The Wendigo is a well-known legend, and thus has inspired fear in writers and artists all over the world. For instance, the demon appears in Marvel comics written by Steve Englehart (drawn by artist Herb Trimpe), and is seen as the twisted result of a curse that attaches itself to cannibals. It even goes head-to-head with the Hulk in The Incredible Hulk #162, as well as Wolverine.

On screen, creatures based on the Wendigo legend have appeared in films like Dark Was the Night and Ravenous. TV series that have a supernatural bent have also made use of its infamy, like Grimm, Charmed, and Supernatural. Notably the character of Will Graham sees it in a number of dreams in the TV adaptation of Hannibal, where the Wendigo symbolizes the cannibalistic habits of the show's titular character.

All the Marvel Shows Announced to Premiere on Disney's New Streaming Site, Disney+

If you thought the adventures of our favorite Avengers could be contained to the big screen, you thought wrong, buddy! Back in 2018, Disney announced its plans to launch a brand-new streaming service called Disney+, and since then it's been steadily adding a number of limited series centered on popular characters from the MCU. Not only will the service have original Marvel shows, but it'll also exclusively house Marvel films instead of Netflix, starting with Captain Marvel, which premiered on March 8.

Subscribers to the service will get the classic blockbuster MCU films along with their TV counterparts, which Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige told Screen Rant will be directly intertwined with the events from the movie side of the franchise. It's a different approach from other Marvel TV shows that have so far functioned as more of side stories to the MCU thus far. Freeform's Cloak & Dagger, ABC's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Netflix's now-defunct Defender series are rarely acknowledged by their movie counterparts, and thus, are limited to their own worlds. These Disney+ show will directly tie in with the films and be integrated in MCU's story-building.

Out of the four series, only Hawkeye's show has not been confirmed to be in development. Nonetheless, we're super excited for all these series and what they could add to the MCU lore. Check them out ahead!

The Annabelle Comes Home Cast Shares the Spooky Supernatural Things That Happened on Set

When you strip away all the movie magic, horror films aren't actually that scary. After all, what makes a good horror film? It's an insanely creepy score. It's a well-placed jump scare (though we appreciate when there aren't any jump scares just as much). But on the set, in the silence, with 50 actors, directors, and crew members milling around, it's hard for the set of a horror movie to be scary. That said, every once in a while, a strange and impossible-to-explain occurrence will rattle everyone who's there to witness it. Case in point: the spooky Los Angeles set of Annabelle Comes Home on the Disney Burbank lot, which I visited in December 2018.

No, for the most part, production went off without a hitch . . . until it didn't. Here and there throughout the shoot, many of the stars described unsettling things that happened to them that they couldn't fully hash out with logic or a laugh. It got to a point where they decided to have a Catholic priest bless the set, something I learned is a tradition and superstition for pretty much every film in the Conjuring universe. Wondering what sorts of things the actors witnessed after the camera stopped rolling? You've been warned: some of them might give you goosebumps.

Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel Hold Hands After Hitting Up Dwyane Wade's Retirement Bash

It was date night for Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel when they stepped out for pal Dwyane Wade's retirement party at Catch in NYC on Wednesday. The couple - who will be celebrating seven years of marriage in October - kept things cool in color-coordinated ensembles and held hands as they exited the restaurant. Dwyane had his final home game with Miami Heat on Tuesday before retiring after his 16th season in the league. Also at the bash were Dwyane's wife, Gabrielle Union; Carmelo Anthony; and Lebron James.

Justin has been busy hamming it up on his Man of the Woods tour (which ends on April 13), and his wife has been by his side supporting him the entire way. In fact, during his April 4 concert in Michigan, things got pretty flirty between them. In an Instagram video captured by a fan, Justin is shown giving Jessica a couple of pelvic thrusts as she cheers him on from the front row. Clearly, the spark is still very much alive for these lovebirds!

Chrissy Metz Rapped "Ice Ice Baby," and Now I'm Desperately Waiting For Her Mixtape

Chrissy Metz is a woman of many talents: she can act, she can sing, and apparently, she can rap, too! If you don't believe me, I'd like to briefly direct your attention to the above video, in which the This Is Us star casually flows along to Vanilla Ice's "Ice Ice Baby." On Thursday, Chrissy stopped by Sway in the Morning to chat about her new movie Breakthrough, when host Sway Calloway began asking about her musical capabilities. They briefly talked about her recent stunning duet with Carrie Underwood at the Academy of Country Music Awards, as well as her rap battle with Jesse Tyler Ferguson on Drop the Mic. Shortly after, Chrissy begins rapping the words - or, at least, the ones she remembers - to "Ice Ice Baby" along with cohost OQ, and she barely misses a beat. Thanks to this clip, I can now say that if she were to drop a mixtape today, I wouldn't not buy it.

Weapons of Valyrian steel are a safe bet as the substance is one of two strong enough to kill White Walkers, but an effective protection plan goes far beyond mere metal. On Earth Day, Turn Your Jog Into a "Plog" by Picking Up Trash Along the Way

We typically think about workouts in terms of what they can do for our bodies. With Earth Day upon us, though, it might be time to switch that up. Exercising is good for you, sure - but what if it could help the planet, too?

Allow us to introduce plogging. This Swedish-born trend is simple: put on your running shoes, grab a trash bag, and go for a jog, picking up litter as you go. The name "plogging" is actually an amalgamation of "jogging" and "plocka upp," which is Swedish for "pick up."

Simple, right? And effective - which might be why plogging has slowly grown into a global movement. A quick scroll through the #plogging hashtag on Instagram shows ploggers in Russia, India, Japan, and Italy, to name just a few, and the trend is making its way to the US, too. Laura Lindberg, a runner from New Jersey, told The Washington Post that once she heard about plogging, "It was a no-brainer. I knew I could incorporate it into my runs." She said she even felt a little guilty for not starting it sooner, because of how easy it was: "All you need is a bag."

The environmental and community service benefits of plogging are plain to see, but what about the fitness aspect? Plogging is essentially running combined with intermittent squats, so you're adding more of a muscle-building burn to what's usually just a cardio exercise. (With that in mind, if you're giving plogging a try, make sure to start with a dynamic warmup to your prerun routine, if you haven't already.) The fitness app Lifesum allows you to actually track plogging as an exercise, and according to the app, plogging does in fact burn more calories than a regular jog: 288 calories for 30 minutes of plogging, compared to 235 from jogging.

And if running isn't your thing, there might be another benefit to plogging: it gives you a goal to focus on, one that's not related to your body, weight loss, or the actual exercise. Hate the lung and leg burn of a long run? Scouring the streets and paths for trash can keep you distracted and make your run feel like a success, no matter how fast or slow it was.

Before you head out for a plog, grab a couple of trash bags and pull on a pair of plastic or gardening gloves for safety. Keep an eye out for small pieces of litter, like cigarette butts, bottle caps, and pieces of styrofoam, alongside bigger items like plastic bottles. Grab whatever trash you see and feel comfortable picking up - it's OK to skip things like syringes, for example - then empty your bags in public trash cans along the way or save them until you get home.

The trend might sound strange at first, but it's a simple and effective way to get outside and clean up your community. What better time to try it than right now?
