These British Easter Traditions Will Surprise You - and Make You Jealous

Everyone has their favorite public holiday. Whether you're all about those Fourth of July fireworks or you prefer the last-days-of-Summer vibes of Labor Day, those extra days off work give you more time with your loved ones, and make the rest of the 9-to-5 so much more bearable. But there's one holiday that the US has not fully embraced yet, and that's Easter. For that, you have to look to the UK, where the Spring holiday is taken very seriously indeed.

Obviously, Easter is primarily a Christian holiday with religious significance that goes far beyond cuddly bunnies and painted eggs, but just like that other big Christian holiday - Christmas, anyone? - Easter in the UK has now become an excuse for country-wide celebrations, whether or not you're religious. The main reason for that? Food! As a POPSUGAR editor based in the UK, I was blown away to discover that my colleagues in the US don't get time off at Easter, and had no idea about our giant chocolate eggs, hot cross buns, or pancake day. If you're in the same boat, here's a little breakdown of what you're missing out on.

The Annabelle Comes Home Cast Shares the Spooky Supernatural Things That Happened on Set

When you strip away all the movie magic, horror films aren't actually that scary. After all, what makes a good horror film? It's an insanely creepy score. It's a well-placed jump scare (though we appreciate when there aren't any jump scares just as much). But on the set, in the silence, with 50 actors, directors, and crew members milling around, it's hard for the set of a horror movie to be scary. That said, every once in a while, a strange and impossible-to-explain occurrence will rattle everyone who's there to witness it. Case in point: the spooky Los Angeles set of Annabelle Comes Home on the Disney Burbank lot, which I visited in December 2018.

No, for the most part, production went off without a hitch . . . until it didn't. Here and there throughout the shoot, many of the stars described unsettling things that happened to them that they couldn't fully hash out with logic or a laugh. It got to a point where they decided to have a Catholic priest bless the set, something I learned is a tradition and superstition for pretty much every film in the Conjuring universe. Wondering what sorts of things the actors witnessed after the camera stopped rolling? You've been warned: some of them might give you goosebumps.

Why the Golden Company Is Such a Big F*cking Deal to Cersei on Game of Thrones

Warning: GOT spoilers ahead! Proceed with caution.

The war between the two queens continues to heat up (literally) on Game of Thrones, even as a frozen, undead army descends from beyond the Wall.

Think back to the Loot Train Battle in the season seven episode "The Spoils of War" - Cersei deals with her first major defeat, but it might not have been a total failure for the Mad Queen in training. In that episode, Randyll Tarly notes that the gold the Lannister army takes from Highgarden is already safely within the walls of King's Landing. Cersei then uses that influx of gold to pay her debts and borrow enough money from the Iron Bank to hire the Golden Company. "OK but what even is the Golden Company," you might ask? They are a sellsword company said to be 20,000 strong. Based in Essos, this band of exiles has a stellar reputation since they're known for never breaking a contract.

As we see in the riveting season seven finale, Cersei wants to use the money borrowed from the Iron Bank to hire out these men and have Euron bring them to Westeros on his ships in order to replenish her dwindling army. Just in time to defend them from the Night King's undead army, right?

In the season eight premiere, which aired on April 14, Euron makes good on his promise and arrives in King's Landing with the Golden Company and Captain Harry Strickland - an exiled knight of House Strickland and known in the books as "as Homeless Harry Strickland" - in tow.

Now that the Lannisters have lost even more soldiers, the Golden Company could be the key to keeping the devious queen in the game. In the books, the group of sellswords is made up of highly trained men willing to fight for anyone with enough money to pay them, and they take their jobs seriously. While sellswords in general are thought to be oathbreakers by nature (that's why Stannis declines to hire the company when Ser Davos suggests it in season four), the Golden Company takes great pride in their reputation. As a result, they keep their word once money exchanges hands. But just because they've never broken a contract before doesn't mean they never will, especially when it comes time to fight for Cersei and Euron.

The Lannister queen is making a smart move by bringing the Golden Company to King's Landing, there's no doubt about that. They are a ready-made army of trained men with battle experience. And since they are based in the Free Cities, they may have experience fighting against Dothraki Screamers, something the young soldiers of Westeros are clearly not prepared to do.

One potential downside is that she could be seen as bringing a foreign threat into the land, just like she accuses Daenerys of doing. But after the Loot Train Battle and the big wight reveal, her remaining allies will surely prefer the Golden Company's services over losing more of their own men to dragon fire or an army of frozen zombies. As a group, these sellswords could give Cersei major leverage, but there's one thing the queen isn't taking into consideration: the Golden Company could be swayed to Daenerys's side.

Targaryen bastard Aegor Rivers is the founder of the Golden Company. Many years before the events of Game of Thrones, he leaves Westeros and gathers the exiled knights and lords seeking sanctuary in the Free Cities to form a company of sellswords who stay true to their word. Even though this current iteration of the group never met Aegor, their company would not exist if not for a Targaryen. This could work in Daenerys's favor, especially when Jorah is factored in.

The newly cured Jorah is back by Dany's side, and his timing couldn't be better. Way back in season four, the Dragon Queen chastises Jorah for being suspicious of Daario's sellsword past because Jorah himself once worked for the Golden Company. That's right; before he is enlisted to spy on Daenerys and later switches to her side, Jorah worked for the most famous group of sellswords in the known world. Whether or not the knight left on good terms remains to be seen, but his passion for his queen could compel him to intercede on her behalf with his old band of brothers.

A dragon is responsible for founding the Golden Company, and even gold may not be enough to make them fight against the last Targaryen in the world (at least, the last one anyone knows about). Granted, their entire reputation is built on not breaking their contracts, but in the books, they compromise their motto to fight alongside a Targaryen who hasn't been a part of the show until recently - Rhaegar's supposed son, Aegon. Now that we know Jon Snow's real name is Aegon and he's the legitimate son of Rhaegar and Lyanna (and also the heir to the Iron Throne, NBD), there's an even stronger chance that the mercenaries could flip sides.

Whether the Golden Company follows through in their contract to fight for Cersei (or flips to Team Daenerys), look for this crew of sellswords to turn the tide of the war for whichever woman is lucky enough to contract them. A ready-made army with 20,000 fighters is bound to be formidable, whether they're fighting alongside dragons or against them.

Some of the Hottest Guys on Game of Thrones Happen to Be Dead

On Game of Thrones, Westeros is rife with drama, blood, and, yes, snow - but there's also a pretty healthy handful of eye candy under all that fur and leather. But because of all the aforementioned drama, a lot of those hotties end up six feet under. Let's look back at the sexiest dead guys from Game of Thrones IRL - may they rest in peace.

Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner Are Heating Things Up in Mexico - Good Luck Keeping Your Cool

Forget feeling cool: Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner are heating things up in Mexico! On Friday, the couple was spotted soaking up the sun as they set sail on the Bad Romance III ahead of the Easter break. The Jonas Brothers frontman put his tattoos on display as he went shirtless, while the Game of Thrones actress recycled her sexy black Onia one-piece. At one point, Joe could be seen spraying sunscreen on Sophie before the two kicked back with some drinks.

The relaxing vacation comes after a busy few months for the pair. While Joe recently reunited with his brothers and released new music, Sophie has been promoting the eighth and final season of GOT. And their schedules are only going to get even crazier from here! The Jonas Brothers are getting ready to go on tour, Sophie's film Dark Phoenix is set to release in June, and the couple is set to tie the knot this Summer. They better get in as much R&R during their getaway as they can!

An Uncomfortable Reminder of How Daenerys and Jon Snow Are Related on Game of Thrones

Incest-y spoilers for Game of Thrones below, so proceed with caution!

For so long, one of the biggest questions on the minds of Game of Thrones fans everywhere was that of Jon Snow's parents: who are they? Not Ned, and certainly not Catelynn, but his real parents.

Finally, after many seasons of speculation, Game of Thrones confirmed Lyanna Stark is indeed Jon Snow's mother in the season six finale. Then, in the season seven finale, we learn that Jon is a legitimate heir to the Iron Throne - he's the son of both Lyanna and Rhaegar Targaryen, making him Ned Stark's nephew, not his son. This is a tragedy on many different levels - the first and most obvious being that Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen are related. Though their connection is undeniable, boning your aunt is kind of a mood killer, you know?

As a reminder, Rhaegar Targaryen is Daenerys's oldest brother and the eldest son of "Mad" King Aerys II, which made him heir to the Iron Throne. The Targaryens were originally allies with the Lannisters way back when, and Cersei always thought she would be betrothed to Rhaegar. In the end, though, a wedge grew between the two families when the Mad King instead had Rhaegar marry Elia Martell of Dorne, with whom he had two children. But everything really fell apart in the Seven Kingdoms when Rhaegar laid eyes on Lyanna Stark at the Tourney of Harrenhal.

It was love at first sight for Rhaegar, who found himself instantly smitten with Ned Stark's sister. Even though she was Robert Baratheon's betrothed, Rhaegar boldly gave the victor's wreath he won in the tournament to Lyanna instead of his wife, sparking outrage. As the story goes, Rhaegar later allegedly abducted Lyanna and raped her, but as we now know from season six, she was just as in love with him as he was with her; she went with him of her own free will and they secretly got married.

Their love affair is what spurs Robert Baratheon's rebellion, backed by the great Houses Arryn, Greyjoy, Stark, and Tully. Finally, in the Battle of the Trident, Robert gets his revenge by killing Rhaegar with his war hammer. Tragically, Lyanna later dies, too, as she gives birth to Jon in the Tower of Joy.

All of this is to say that Jon Snow is very much Dany's nephew, and therefore heir to the Targaryen throne himself.

In the season eight premiere, the pair gets closer than ever (much to the chagrin of Drogon, who keeps a VERY close eye on them as they make out by an icy waterfall). It's not until the final few scenes of the episode, when Samwell Tarly finds Jon in the crypts of Winterfell and relays the news about his real parents, that we start to see a crack in the former King in the North's calm, measured facade.

It'll be interesting to see what Jon does with the news that Rhaegar is his father, and if he'll try to stake a claim for the Iron Throne in competition with Daenerys. Given his reaction to Sam's confession, that seems a bit unlikely. Instead, we hope that Jon and Dany will find a way to unite the Targaryens and the Starks in the way that Lyanna and Rhaegar never got a chance to.

This Lizzo Song From Netflix's Someone Great Is the Power Anthem We All Need Right Now

If you need a major dose of girl power in your life, then you're in luck. Netflix just dropped a new rom-com Someone Great, and if you haven't seen it yet, "great" doesn't begin to describe how fun this movie is. Starring Jane the Virgin's Gina Rodriguez, Pitch Perfect's Brittany Snow, and She's Gotta Have It's DeWanda Wise, the comedy tells the story of aspiring music journalist Jenny (played by Rodriguez), whose boyfriend of nine years unceremoniously dumps her as soon as she lands her dream job in San Francisco because he's not willing to make long distance work. However, her two BFFs, Blair and Erin (played by Snow and Wise, respectively), are there to help her get over her ex and give her one last crazy weekend in New York City before she moves across the country. Yes, ladies!

On top of plenty of reasons to laugh AND cry, this flick boasts a killer soundtrack. Particularly, the song that's featured both in the film's trailer as well as a cathartic, extended dance sequence in the kitchen between Jenny and Erin that kicks off with, "Why men great till they gotta be great?" The track is by the fabulous Lizzo, a rapper, singer, and classically trained flautist from Minneapolis who released her debut album, Lizzobangers, in 2013, which was followed by Big Grrrl Small World in 2015 and 2019's Cuz I Love You.

One of her best gifts to the world, however, is definitely her 2017 single (and the best single-girl anthem since Beyoncé's "Single Ladies"), "Truth Hurts."

In the music video, Lizzo is seen marrying herself in a praiseworthy ode to self-love. "You're 'posed to hold me down / But you're holding me back / And that's the sound of me not calling you back," she raps, standing on her own in a wedding dress. Later, she declares, "I put the sing in single / Ain't worried 'bout a ring on my finger."

We couldn't think of a better sentiment to complement Someone Great. After all, relationships come and go, but your dream job at Rolling Stone might only come around once!

Though Lizzo's third album, Cuz I Love You, hit shelves on April 19, we've already been jamming out to her latest singles like "Juice" and the title song, "Cuz I Love You." And even more coincidental? Someone Great became available to stream on Netflix the exact same day Lizzo's new album dropped! Suddenly April is our favorite month.

Queens Supporting Queens! Michelle Obama Praises Beyoncé For Inspiring Homecoming Film

Beyoncé dropped her highly-anticipated Netflix documentary, Homecoming, on Wednesday, and Michelle Obama could not be any prouder. While we're all still recovering from Beyoncé's mind-blowing Coachella performance, the former first lady took a break from her Becoming book tour on Thursday to praise her girl for "constantly raising the bar for us all."

"Girl, you make me so proud and I love you," Michelle said in an adorable Instagram video. "I love that you're using this film to inspire the next generation of history makers and record breakers who'll run the world in the years ahead. So to you, my dear friend, I just want to say: Keep telling the truth."

Beyoncé's Homecoming documentary mainly focuses on her historic 2018 Coachella performance, but it also gives fans glimpses of her home life, including her children, 7-year-old Blue Ivy and 1-year-old twins Rumi and Sir.

Michelle and Beyoncé quickly became friends after the singer had the honor of serenading the Obamas at the 2009 Inaugural Ball, so her tribute certainly doesn't come as a surprise. In fact, Beyoncé recently penned an essay about her pal for Time's annual 100 Most Influential People issue, calling Michelle the "portrait of grace." We love queens supporting queens!

Game of Thrones MVP: 5 Moments From the Season 8 Premiere That Prove Sansa Stark Is a Boss

Welcome to Game of Thrones: MVP of the Week, a new feature in which we crown the character who stands out most during each episode of season eight. The MVP may have had the most kills, the best monologue, or died the most heroic death. (Hey, we're just covering all our bases!)

The final season premiere of Game of Thrones started off with a castle-full of drama, intrigue, and a healthy dose of pettiness. The Dragon Queen arrives in Winterfell and the preparations for the Great Battle are underway. Considering that almost every main character from the last few seasons has some stellar moments in the premiere, you would think it would be hard to pick one who should own the title of "Most Valuable Player," but there is one clear winner claiming the throne for this week: Sansa Stark, Lady of Winterfell.

Now I can already sense the side eyes and the hurt feelings, but there's just no denying that the eldest daughter of House Stark came for people's necks in the premiere. She takes no sh*t from her special guests and doles out zingers like she's serving House of Frey pot pies. It's amazing to see Sansa - who is now firmly established and comfortable with her place as a leader for her people - speak with folks who haven't figured out that she's not a shallow little girl anymore. She has no problem asking the hard questions, forcing people to realize they aren't as smart as they think they are.

Keep reading to see the many ways Sansa Stark came out on top during Sunday's episode and, once you've finally converted to Team Sansa, check out all the other major moments from this season premiere!

Eminem Celebrates 11 Years of Sobriety With Powerful Instagram Post: "Still Not Afraid"

Eminem is celebrating a major accomplishment. The 47-year-old rapper shared a heartfelt tribute to his 11 years of sobriety on April 20. "Still not afraid," he wrote alongside an Instagram photo of his sobriety chip. The coin is a milestone marker and is engraved with the words "unity," "strength," and "recovery," as well as the phrase "To thine own self be true" and the Roman numeral "XI" to commemorate 11 years.

Eminem has been candid about his recovery over the years. Last year, he acknowledged his decade of sobriety through another Instagram post. He also detailed his struggle with substance abuse in his song lyrics and through media interviews. In 2015, he told Men's Journal he overdosed on pills in 2007, and found exercise to be a substitute for his addiction.

"When I got out of rehab, I needed to lose weight, but I also needed to figure out a way to function sober," he said. "Unless I was blitzed out of my mind, I had trouble sleeping. So I started running. It gave me a natural endorphin high, but it also helped me sleep, so it was perfect. It's easy to understand how people replace addiction with exercise. One addiction for another but one that's good for them."

Should You Remove Dip Powder Nails at Home? The Answer Might Surprise You

If you're a beauty enthusiast, you know there are a few cardinal rules. Don't wear mascara with your eyelash extensions; don't wax after a spray tan; and absolutely never peel off your gel manicure. When sporting a supershiny gel set, it is always advised to go and see your nail tech for proper removal. But not all manicures are created equal. When it comes to dip manicures, the rules are slightly different.

You don't need to wait to visit the salon when your nail are in need of removal, because with dip manicures, you can actually remove them at home. Risé Carter, director of education at LeChat Nails, gave POPSUGAR all the details of what to do and what not to do when it comes to removing dip manicure nails.

Carter explained that a dip manicure is "the easiest to remove because it uses a cyanoacrylate: a simple nail glue that is more sensitive to solvents," meaning that dip removes easier than traditional gel manicures. Of course, as with all at-home beauty experiences, there is a possibility of adverse reactions, but Carter said the worst thing a DIY dip manicure could do is cause drying of the skin around the nails (that's nothing a good cuticle oil or hand lotion can't fix).

How do you actually remove dip manicures? First, buff the shine of the nail surface, Carter explained, then reach for 100 percent pure acetone (you can buy this from most beauty supply stores). Loosen the cap, and place the bottle of acetone into a glass bowl of warm water for approximately 10 minutes. This will warm the acetone and make the process quicker. Afterward, empty the water out, and pour the acetone into the bowl. Carter said there are two options for removal: you can either soak the nails and place a dry towel over the hand and bowl, or use a saturated cotton pad on the nail and wrap your fingers in a small piece of foil.

Then kick back and relax, leaving the acetone to work its magic on the nails for 10 to 15 minutes. (Carter advises you don't keep looking to check it, just leave it be.) Finally, gently lift the dip powder off, wash your hands, and hydrate with lotion and oil. If the dip powder hasn't quite lifted, place back into the acetone for a further 10 minutes.

Even If You're Not a Mother of Dragons, You Can Look Like One With This Tutorial

If you're just as hyped as we are about the return of Game of Thrones, then step this way. Not only do we have all the content you'll ever need about season eight, but we also found a stylish hair tutorial to match.

Justine Marjan blessed us with a tutorial that shows exactly how to get a pretty and actually wearable Game of Thrones braid so that you can take your love of the show beyond your sofa. Marjan posted the half-up double dutch braid with twisted detailing - which captures Daenerys's signature look perfectly - and captioned it, "taking a break from the festival content to give you this #gameofthrones #braid #hairtutorial." And boy, are we glad she did. Not only is the hairstyle based off our favorite show (and doubles as a perfect festival style), it also only requires one hair product to recreate. Enter: Tresemme Micro Mist Level 4 Hairspray, which holds the intricate braids in place without that stiff hairspray feeling. For a braid that is as epic as the show (without being anywhere near as complicated as the plot), get a closer look ahead and see how Marjan created the braided half-up hairstyle.

The Wisteria Flower Tunnels of Japan Look Like a Fairy Tale Come to Life

The wisteria tunnels at the Kawachi Fuji Gardens in Kitakyushu, Japan, are almost otherworldly in their beauty. While thousands of tourists flock to Japan to see the country's fabulous displays of cherry blossoms every year, the lesser-known wisteria tunnels remain a little off the beaten path, despite an increase in popularity over the past few years.

Wisteria is a climbing flower that blooms in the Spring with a variety of colors that make up a stunning Spring palette, including violet, light pink, and white. Every year at the end of April, the long-established wisteria at the gardens bloom and transform the man-made trellises into spectacular works of art. The combination of the aroma and stunning visual display make it a true sensory experience.

There are two tunnels to enjoy, each measuring about 100 meters long and consisting of up to 20 different varieties of wisteria, known locally as fuji flowers. If you want to visit, make sure to plan ahead - the display usually only lasts a few weeks. While the gardens are notoriously difficult to get to, the payoff is totally worth it. Look through to see stunning photos of this fairy-tale destination!

We can't help but revisit the days of our first crushes with jams that will instantly transport you back to the school gym. So grab your honey, pop in that breath mint, and hit play.

I'm the Only Married One in My Friend Group, and Honestly, It Does Feel Weird

Let me preface this by saying that I have never once regretted getting married at 26. I have no question that I've found "the one," and I certainly don't have any wild oats left to sow. Since getting married six months ago, my life has barely changed at all, especially since my now-husband and I had already been living together for over two-and-a-half years by the time we tied the knot. But one thing has become obvious from time to time: I'm now a married woman, and I'm the only one in my friend group who can claim that.

If you had asked me five years ago what I would look like as a married woman, I certainly wouldn't have pictured myself still wearing dirty Converse and a ponytail every day - perhaps instead a twin-set and some pearl earrings - but here I am. Being married doesn't mean I still can't go to bars and clubs and drink and dance and meet new people, but having a wedding band on your finger does change certain things. Most of my friends are single, and though I'm always happy to play wing woman, I have no desire to give the wrong impression. I don't wear what I used to consider "club outfits" anymore, and I'm definitely calmer in general whenever we're all out together. And all of that makes me happier. I'm inextricably bound to someone else now, and I do want others to recognize that.

Even my friends who are in committed relationships will sometimes make comments about not yet being ready to "settle down," and I feel a sting of shame.

Weekend trips feel different now, too. My single friends don't have a partner they feel obligated (or simply want!) to bring along, so to ask to bring my husband feels a little embarrassing sometimes, like trying to sneak a childhood blanket into a sleepover party. It's not that I can't have fun without him there (he's definitely not allowed on girls-only trips), but his desire to be welcomed into my friend group only makes me feel guiltier for saying maybe he should sit this one out. If all of my friends had partners, it would be different. To be the only one who brings a spouse along, however, is decidedly uncool.

I was never the one in a relationship in high school or college. When my friends would ditch plans or spend nights in with their significant others, I would roll my eyes. Now the tables have turned, and I have a husband who I cook dinner with every night. We have a dog. We have a shared bank account. He's the best friend I've ever had and every morning when I wake up next to him, I feel deliriously happy all over again, remembering just how lucky I am.

But that's not what single people want to hear. Even my friends who are in committed relationships will sometimes make comments about not yet being ready to "settle down," and I feel a sting of shame. I certainly haven't "settled" in my relationship, but being in a marriage does keep me grounded in some ways. Unlike my friends, I can't book a flight to Napa Valley last minute for a three-day weekend. The dog would need someone to watch him. The cost would need to be discussed with my husband. And my husband would need to be OK with me taking off for three days. It's not just me I need to consider anymore, and I genuinely love that.

Being the first one married rather than the last one definitely has its benefits, too. All of my friends could attend my bachelorette party, and not many of them needed plus-ones for my wedding. I can watch my friends swipe through dating apps, knowing I'll thankfully never have to go on another awkward first date ever again. I feel more comfortable and confident in myself than I ever have, not because I have the security of a man waiting for me every day, but because I'm in a partnership that makes me want to be better.

While most of my husband's friends are in serious relationships or on the cusp of marriage, not many of my friends are there yet, and that's OK. To a lot of people, I got married "young." I'm a firm believer that there's no right timeline for anything, and marriage is also definitely not for everyone. However, I'm still looking forward to the day when my husband will be invited on certain trips with my girl gang rather than feeling like a weird male interloper.

At 17, I Had to Go to Court to Fight For My Abortion

When I was 17, I found out I was pregnant. I knew immediately that I needed to have an abortion.

I had just gotten into the University of Texas at San Antonio and was ready to change cities and start working toward a career in electrical engineering. I knew I definitely wasn't ready to start a family. But in Texas, the law said I needed my parents' permission to have an abortion.

I cried and panicked, unsure what I would do if I couldn't get the abortion.

My father is religious and conservative, and I knew I couldn't talk to him about it. I wasn't sure my mom would give me permission, and I was scared that even asking her would pull us further apart. I cried and panicked, unsure what I would do if I couldn't get the abortion.

Thirty-seven states require a parent to be involved in a minor's abortion: 21 require parental consent and 11 require parental notification; five states require both consent and notification. Florida is currently considering legislation that would require notarized parental permission, bumping parental-involvement states up to 38.

If they can't get parent permission, the Florida bill would require minors to appear before a judge and prove that they are "mature"; the judge gets to decide if they can get an abortion. The process is called judicial bypass, and I went through it in Texas.

In Texas, there is a nonprofit called Jane's Due Process that helps minors navigate the judicial bypass process. But most states don't have Jane's Due Process, making it harder to find a lawyer who can help you. Many teens must appear before the judge themselves, unprepared to face a legal proceeding about a private medical decision.

I reached out to Jane's Due Process and was fortunately able to meet with a lawyer, who walked me through the many steps I needed to get through before appearing before the judge, including getting a sonogram and working with my lawyer to compile evidence of my maturity.

I was nervous to appear before the judge; it seemed like anything could happen. I felt like if I messed up when I spoke or left out something for my case, the judge would rule against me and I wouldn't be able to get my abortion. It felt like I was being treated like a criminal when all I wanted to do was get an abortion.

Ultimately the judge ruled in my favor. But I still had to deal with cost and travel, barriers that are harder for young people - especially teenagers - to overcome. In some places, you have to wait for weeks and drive for hours to get an appointment at the nearest clinic. When you add the delay of having to appear before a judge, it's even longer before you can get the abortion, pushing it further into your pregnancy, and making the cost even higher.

Young people like me are responsible enough to make our own decisions about whether or not we want to have a child. I knew that if I couldn't have the abortion I might not be able to finish school and wouldn't be able to create the life I have planned. That's why Florida Bill HB 1335, and the many laws like it around the country, are so harmful and unjust. And the judicial bypass, which legislators claim is intended to help those who can't get parental permission, is actually designed to discourage minors and influence their decision.

I started sharing my story to try to change parental notification laws and others that threaten abortion access. We all have the right to end a pregnancy if we're not ready to carry it to term - and to make that decision on our own, without parents, lawyers, or judges.

My Partner and I Took Our Sweet Time Before Saying "I Do," Because What's the Rush?

My husband and I dated for almost 10 years before finally tying the knot. We met during our freshman year of college, stumbling into each other in the basement at a party. As many 18-year-olds, we were wild and naïve. I guess we were both late bloomers because it took us a while to get the hang of the whole being a couple thing. And while our relationship has been very far from perfect, the one thing I am happy we decided as a couple was to wait to get engaged, because why rush it?

Yes, my husband and I were both a little wild when we first met each other. While we couldn't ignore the chemistry we had between us, we also refused to commit right away. A few times, we toyed with the idea of being together, really together, but it never lasted quite long enough. That may sound like we were both being insensitive or selfish, but I think that deep down, we both just knew that we were too immature to settle down at such a young age.

But finally, during our junior year of college, we had had enough. We made it official and dated no one else. We learned to enjoy the rest of college, wild still, but this time together. After graduation, I went on to graduate school, and my husband got a job. He even bought a house. We danced around the big marriage conversation many times, too. Honestly, I felt like he was feeling a little pressure from good old society because some of his other friends were getting engaged. But I certainly did not want him to feel that way. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, right?

I told him, "Look, there is no rush in getting married right now. You are getting settled into your career, and I still need to start mine myself."

The stress flew off his shoulders. "Really?" he asked. "I'm honestly so relieved!"

We simply enjoyed each other as a young couple. The fact that we were getting a tad older didn't necessarily mean that we had to get married yet.

From here, we simply enjoyed each other as a young couple. We lived a commute away, and I didn't move in with him. Looking back, it was such a fun time for us. We'd make plans each weekend. We'd hit up big sporting events, concerts, weekend trips, and of course, bars. The fact that we were getting a tad older didn't necessarily mean that we had to get married yet. We were too busy settling into the realities of adulthood and making memories for ourselves, too.

Once we settled into our late 20s, we were finally ready. My now husband took me on a beautiful hike near Lake Michigan on a crystal blue Fall morning. Once we circled back to the beach, he dug his knee into the sand and pulled out a ring. "We've waited long enough, don't you think?" he said. "Will you marry me?" We said "yes" to our marriage in our own time.

We needed that time - time to mature individually, time to grow as a couple, and time to just have fun together.

Many of our friends met and got married much quicker, but for us, well, we needed that time - time to mature individually, time to grow as a couple, and time to just have fun together. My husband and I didn't want to fall into the seriousness of planning for a wedding too soon, because honestly, we just weren't ready.

I'm thrilled that we waited almost 10 years, because you know that honeymoon phase? While some of the fireworks weren't as hot as other newer couples might have experienced, we also didn't have to take the time to get used to each other. We already knew our partner's pet peeves, quirks, and little annoyances. He accepted the fact that I left empty water glasses all over the house, and I got over him falling asleep on the couch some nights. You see, there was no more learning curve. And it turned out that we still were crazy for one another despite all of that. I mean, we did have almost 10 years of practice behind us, after all.

If You're Eating Any of These Foods Late in the Evening, They Could Be Messing With Your Sleep

There are so many things that can disrupt your sleep - from stress about work deadlines to the temperature of the room - but if you find yourself tossing and turning after a late night with friends or an indulgent meal at home, you may need to reevaluate your eating habits.

Eating too close to bedtime can be especially problematic if you're prone to heartburn. "Laying horizontally after a meal can allow stomach acid to travel back up the esophagus, leading to a bitter taste in the mouth or burning in the chest," Lauren Cadillac, a registered dietitian in New York City, told POPSUGAR. "In addition to spicy foods, acidic foods like tomatoes, tomato sauce, and citrus fruits may be problematic, and chocolate may also worsen reflux."

Foods and beverages that contain caffeine, such as coffee, tea, and soda, should be avoided as well, she added. Caffeine blocks a chemical that helps make you sleepy, and it's also a diuretic, which can cause you to make a trip to the bathroom during the night. Lauren recommends cutting yourself off from caffeine after lunchtime.

"Eating a large meal right before bedtime can also affect your ability to sleep," Lauren said. "If your stomach feels overly full and you can feel the contents churning, this can cause discomfort and prevent you from falling asleep. A high-protein or high-fat meal is more difficult to digest and should be avoided before bed."

If you find you're still hungry in the late evening, Lauren suggests eating a carbohydrate-rich snack, such as a small cup of oatmeal or rice cake with peanut butter, which may increase the level of the sleep-inducing amino acid tryptophan in the blood. When you're mindful, food can actually help ease you into sleep instead of keeping you up.
