Toy Story 4 Feels Like a Definitive End to the Pixar Franchise - but Is It?
If there's one story that movie-lovers are okay with never ending, it's probably the adventures of Toy Story. Yes, each installment emotionally eviscerates us, but there's always a happy ending that reminds us that life can't be that terrible if Disney and Pixar keep churning these bad boys out. But ever since the announcement that we would be getting Toy Story 4, there has been suggestions that this adventure with Woody, Buzz, and the rest of the gang might be the last. And with the film's very conclusive ending, it looks like this may indeed be our last rodeo after all, cowboys.
Spoilers for Toy Story 4 ahead!
The film's great climax begins building up the moment Woody sets out to retrieve Bonnie's new toy, Forky, after he attempts to run away by jumping out the family's RV during a roadtrip. As Woody and Forky make their journey back to their family of toys, and Woody helps Forky understand their importance as kid toys, they get separated and Woody runs into his old flame, Bo Peep. The toy is vastly different from the last time Woody saw her and is living her best life as a free toy. As the two work together, Woody sees how fulfilling Bo's life is - especially in comparison to how meaningless he feels as Bonnie's toy.
When the time comes to reunite with the rest of the toys and Bonnie's family, Woody realizes that his time living as one kid's toy has come to an end, even if it means saying goodbye to the family he's made through the years. He parts ways with Buzz, Jessie, and the rest of the gang, deciding to travel along with the carnival with Bo Peep and the other free toys. As the credits roll, Woody and Bo Peep work with their new gang to ensure that all the kids visiting the carnival go home with toys that desperately want a kid, and Forky meets a lady love of his own to welcome into Bonnie's vast collection of toys.
It's a beautiful ending, but it's also pretty clear-cut. Woody is off living a new life with his shepherdess love and the rest of the gang is happy to stay with Bonnie as she grows older, just like they did with Andy. It doesn't help that the actors themselves have hinted that this is the final adventure for our favorite stuffed friends. Both Tom Hanks (Woody) and Tim Allen (Buzz Lightyear) took to social media to say goodbye to their characters at the end of filming.
"Final line, final session as Woody of Toy Story 4," Hanks captioned an Instagram post in January. "We rode like the wind, to infinity and beyond. Hanx." On the exact same day (really twisting the knife there fellas), Allen tweeted, "Finished my Buzz for Toy Story 4 today and it got emotional. Wonderful full body story." Sounds like a pretty final goodbye, doesn't it?
Of course, the Toy Story franchise has pulled the wool over our eyes before - after all, who thought we'd even be getting a fourth film? But we have a feeling that, if nothing else, this will probably be the last film with both Hanks and Allen voicing the leading gentleman. If there is another Toy Story, it might follow the adventures of other toys, maybe even completely new ones. Anything is possible when it comes to a franchise as successful as this one. Either way, we'll definitely be re-watching Toy Story 4 for years to come.

Lizzo's BET Awards Performance Was So Good, She Got a Standing Ovation From Rihanna
When I first found out that Lizzo was performing at Sunday's BET Awards, I knew she was going to kill it, but I certainly wasn't ready for this. Dressed in a bridal-inspired look, the 31-year-old singer had everyone on their feet during her energetic performance of her hit "Truth Hurts." She even brought out her famous flute! As if that wasn't exciting enough, Lizzo got a standing ovation from Rihanna, who made a surprise appearance at the show. OK, I would totally be down for a Lizzo and Rihanna collaboration, just saying! Watch Lizzo's fun-filled performance ahead!

Jessica Jones Gets a Hunky New Love Interest in Season 3 - Say Hello to Erik
Just in time for Jessica Jones to go off the air, the series has introduced a hunky new love interest for its ass-kicking heroine. Because, of course.
The show has returned for a third and final outing, which sees Jessica facing off against a truly terrifying serial killer who manages to stab her in the abdomen within the first episode. Not exactly the type of guy you want handling your kitchen knifes, you know? Erik, on the other hand, is totally ready and willing to use those knives to make you the best burger you've ever had . . . and potentially also blackmail you for thousands of dollars. It's really a toss-up with him. However, since Jessica isn't pure, straight-up evil, Erik is able to put his evil-sensing superpower to rest, and the pair make a surprisingly good couple (not as hot as Jessica and Luke Cage or as healthy as Jessica and Oscar, but we'll take it).
Erik isn't a new character in the Marvel universe, either; he actually exists in the comics. In print, he's more commonly known as Mind-Wave, but he's not as charming as his onscreen counterpart is. Instead, he's a villain who uses ESP to mess with those who don't have telepathic gifts, and he drives an armored vehicle called the Think Tank that specializes in robbing banks. Although he doesn't really cross paths with Jessica Jones in the comics, he does end up as a foe for both the Punisher and Daredevil.
So, who's the actor responsible for giving you a new Marvel crush? Benjamin Walker, 36, who is perhaps best known for playing the title role in the 2012 film Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. If you went to see the American Psycho adaptation on Broadway in 2016, you might also have caught him playing Patrick Bateman. If neither of those titles are ringing a bell, though, never fear - ahead you'll see all the other exciting roles he's brought to life over the years.

A Royal Showdown! Who Would You Rather: Prince Carl Philip or Prince Harry?
As much as I enjoy swooning over every Prince Harry appearance, he isn't the only royal I'm lusting after. I've also had my eye on Prince Carl Philip from Sweden for quite some time now, but if it came down to choosing between the two princes (in my dreams), I don't know who I'd pick! Both Harry and Carl are extremely good-looking and truly care about making the world a better place, so there's really no right or wrong choice. So I guess I'll let you decide: Who would you rather?

I Did Gymnastics For the First Time in 5 Years and Remembered How It Felt to Conquer My Fears
Gymnastics was all I knew growing up - that and boy bands - and it played a part in my road to becoming an adult. I've written before about how over a decade of competing in the sport taught me to embrace imperfection. It also taught me discipline - how to block out the rest of the world and focus on one event. One routine. It's safe to say that, since quitting right before college, I miss it every day - I'm reminded of it when I'm working out, rewatching Katelyn Ohashi videos, even dodging commuter traffic on the sidewalk in NYC. So I jumped at the chance to take a gymnastics class with Olympian Laurie Hernandez, associated with her Eye Can, Eye Will Alcon campaign, at Chelsea Piers.
Stepping onto the floor gave me that familiar jolt of adrenaline. My body felt the need to flip. The group, though, stuck to the basics because it was a beginner class. We walked around on tip-toe and on our heels, practiced stretches for our splits with Laurie, and did drills for handstands and cartwheels. Sure, this stuff was easy, but it was a good reminder that having a solid foundation of skills will help you progress toward bigger goals.
The Chelsea Piers coaches teaching with Laurie could tell I had a background in gymnastics - they might have also heard her tell me during our warmup that my "inner gymnast" was showing. So with the little time we had left, I mentioned that I wanted to work on a back handspring and a standing back tuck (essentially a backflip on the floor without momentum from a tumbling pass). One of the coaches assured me he'd be there to help.
Laurie's mantra at the 2016 Olympics was "I got this" (which is, not surprisingly, the title of her memoir). I never had a mantra, but I used to talk myself down when I was scared of dismounting off bars or landing my last tumbling pass in my floor routine. I'd take one final breath in through my nose, out through my mouth, and I'd fix my eyes on a stationary spot in front of me. Then, I'd go for it. Before I did my back handsprings and back tucks at this class, I took a breath. I paused. And I let muscle memory guide me.
Of course I was nervous, but I remembered exactly how to quell my state of fear into a state of determination. As Laurie reminded me during our interview together, "Training is definitely physical, but a majority of it is mental." It's no wonder Simone Biles and Laurie herself sought the expertise of a mental toughness coach leading up to the Rio Olympics. It's easy to lose confidence in your abilities even if you have the capacity to land on your feet every time. Now, that's not to say you should try whatever makes you scared - but with a little push, and a reminder to trust yourself and those helping you, you've got the option to.
I told the coach who led me through my flips that he'd made my year. It's true - doing skills I once did with ease was thrilling. Half a decade away from the sport and I still had the same form and prepared for these flips the same exact way. I still smiled when I (almost) stuck the landing. Ahead, check out how I did - and hopefully you'll find your way back to old passions, too. The familiar thrill, the joy, is worth it.

Expectant Parents Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds Cuddle Up on Set, and Wow, We're Melting
Ryan Reynolds had the support of his biggest fan, Blake Lively, while filming Free Guy in Boston on June 22. The 42-year-old actor began shooting his newest project this week, alongside actors Joe Keery and Utkarsh Ambudkar. He shared a snap of himself and Blake, 31, hugging on set, and captioned it "Great Scott!" - a nod to Back to the Future.
After a whirlwind of red carpets and social media banter in 2018, Blake and Ryan have stayed relatively under-the-radar over the past few months. The couple last made a public appearance in May, when they stepped out for Ryan's Pokémon Detective Pikachu premiere, and revealed Blake is pregnant with their third child. Their newest addition will join the pair's daughters 4-year-old James and 2-year-old Inez. Hopefully we'll get to see more on-set family moments before Blake's presumed due date this Fall!
Toy Story 4's Perfect Ending Completes the Franchise For Good
Though some would say that the Toy Story franchise didn't need another movie after the gloriously touching ending of Toy Story 3, there's no doubt that Toy Story 4 will change their minds. The film takes fans on a wild journey filled with the usual hysterical mishaps (though some are a little creepy, even for this grown-up) and a little bit of heartbreak along the way. And it all starts in a closet . . .
Warning, all the spoilers for Toy Story 4 ahead!
The film picks up soon after the events of Toy Story 3, with Andy's toys mixing in among Bonnie's toys. Despite being Andy's favorite, Woody is quickly downgraded to closet status by the much younger Bonnie, who even takes his sheriff's badge to pin on Jessie. His frustration with being demoted leads him to steal into her backpack when she leaves for school and indirectly inspire the creation of Forky, a spork who vehemently protests his sudden sentience.
Forky's existence comes around just in time for Bonnie's family to set out on a road trip, during which Woody assigns himself as Forky's aggravated guardian. The spork, who believes himself to be trash despite Bonnie favoring him above all her other toys, forces Woody to stage a rescue mission after the googly-eyed utensil jumps out of the family's RV. The stuffed sheriff explains the significance of their purpose as kids' toys to Forky as they work to get back to the RV, but Woody's feelings of diminished self-worth are brought to the surface when he runs into his lost love, Bo Peep.
She's a lot different from the last time Woody saw her, when he very briefly thought about leaving Andy behind to run away with her. Now that he sees how fulfilling Bo's life is as a free toy - especially in comparison to how meaningless he feels as Bonnie's toy - he begins to question his choices.
Woody's emotional conflict fuels much of the movie's events, as he makes the self-appointed mission of keeping Forky safe his sole purpose. Even when his dangerous decisions end up hurting the new friends he makes after reuniting with Bo Peep, he self-destructively pushes on, going so far as to give up his voice box in his desire to fulfill the imperative he's echoed since the first Toy Story: keep his child happy. It's obvious that Woody has conflated making a child happy with his own sense of worth, and Bonnie's rejection of him has caused him to fear losing that.
It's not until the time comes to reunite with the rest of the toys and Bonnie's family that Woody realizes that his time living as one kid's toy has come to an end, even if it means saying goodbye to the family he's made over the years. He realizes that being there for Andy until he grew up was fulfilling his "purpose" and essentially his go-ahead to retire. So the sheriff delivers Forky to the RV and parts ways with Buzz, Jessie, and the rest of the gang, deciding to travel along with the carnival with Bo Peep and the other free toys. As the credits roll, Woody and Bo Peep work with their new gang to ensure that all the kids visiting the carnival go home with toys that desperately want a kid, and Forky meets a lady love of his own to welcome into Bonnie's vast collection of toys.
It's the perfect ending for a story that started with one simple, intriguing question: "What if toys are secretly alive?" We began with Andy's story and end with Woody's, learning along the way that a kid's love can bring a toy to life but that there's more to life than only caring for one single kid. In the grander scheme of things, it's about living life to the fullest and doing what makes you happy. After all, everyone grows up and moves on - even our toys.

What's Better: "Leg Days" and "Arm Days" or Full-Body Workouts? These Experts Have the Answer
It's hard not to love a good full-body workout, but you might also hear about "leg days" and "arm days," workouts that focus on certain muscle groups. Those are called split workouts, because you "split" up your weekly workout routine to dedicate an entire day to each muscle group. If you're trying to build muscle, both are effective as long as you're doing resistance training a few times a week, eating plenty of protein, and increasing your weight as you get stronger.
More on all of that later. Figuring out which is more effective, full-body or split workouts, is the first question you want answered.
Full-Body Workouts vs. Split Workouts
Full-body workouts are the best choice for most people, said exercise physiologist Tom Holland, MS, who's also a fitness adviser for Bowflex. The major reasoning behind that? Time efficiency. You won't have to work out as often if you do full-body workouts, Tom told POPSUGAR. "When time is the number one reason people give for not exercising, this is the best approach," he explained. "For the vast majority of people, whose primary goals are to increase their functional strength, fix muscular weakness and imbalances, and build lean muscle, full-body workouts make the most sense," Tom said.
Another positive, according to Jeff Monaco, MS, CSCS, fitness education manager at Gold's Gym: full-body workouts often use a lot of compound movements, which are exercises that combine one or two moves to work multiple muscle groups. Think: squat to overhead press or plank with row. This trains your muscles to work together instead of in isolation, he told POPSUGAR, which helps you with functional fitness in your day-to-day life. Plus, he said, it burns more calories than just working one muscle group at a time.
There's also one important factor in building muscle, Tom told POPSUGAR, which is "the number of times per week that you work the same muscle groups." Ideally, that would be two to three times per week for each muscle group. It's another reason full-body workouts are a good choice: you're trying to build muscle in the fewest amount of workouts per week.
Split workouts are best for the more advanced, Tom said - that is, "those who plan on lifting weights almost every day per week, and sometimes twice daily." Jeff added that they're also great if you're looking to build up one muscle group or correct muscle imbalances. Still, he agreed, "Split workouts require more time and days in the gym to get the same benefit as the full-body workout. This generally means anywhere from four to six days per week in the gym." Not in the cards for you? (Me neither.) Then you'll likely see the best results from your full-body routines.
Eat Protein and Rest to Build Muscle
Of course, if muscle-building is your goal, a few other factors come into play. "You must ensure that you're getting in adequate amounts of daily protein," Tom said. Registered dietitian and ACSM-certified Jim White told POPSUGAR in a previous interview that a muscle-building diet should be about 25 percent protein, so try to ensure that a quarter of your plate at every meal (and snack) is devoted to protein sources like lean meat, fish, or tofu. To build muscle, Jim said your other macros should be 55 percent carbs and 20 percent fat.
Rest and recovery are also crucial, Jeff told POPSUGAR. "The body has to have enough rest and recovery to adapt to the stress that is put on it during a workout," he explained. He recommended waiting 48 hours between strength-training workouts if you're a beginner, and more if your muscles are sore. "You'll do more good letting those muscles rest another day than putting them through another tough workout when they're still recovering from the previous workout," he said.
How Often Should I Do Full-Body Workouts?
For beginners, Jeff recommended starting with two full-body strength workouts per week and gradually working up to three. "It's always advisable to start slow and gradually increase the amount of exercises, sets, and repetitions in a given workout over time so the body can adapt properly," he told POPSUGAR. That means you should do them on nonconsecutive days, Tom said, and keep them to around half an hour in length. On your non-strength-training days, get in some steady-state cardio like running, swimming, or cycling. You could also throw in one or two HIIT workouts, but avoid doing more than that, as HIIT can be particularly draining on your body and muscles. To get that essential balance, check out this four-week workout plan that'll help you build muscle and lose weight.
As you get stronger, it's essential that you keep bumping up your weight to continue building your muscles and avoid a strength-training plateau. You can start with bodyweight routines like this 20-minute full-body workout, including simple but effective moves like push-ups and squats. Then, gradually incorporate resistance through machines or dumbbells. Pick weights that are challenging you through your last few reps without losing form, Tom said. "When the last few repetitions become easy, it's time to increase the weight." Just starting? We've got you covered with this guide on choosing the right weight.
That might seem like a lot to keep in mind, so we'll make it a little simpler: unless you plan on lifting weights every day, go with full-body workouts. Make sure your diet has protein aplenty to fuel your workouts and help your muscles grow. Gradually increase the weight in your strength workouts with progressive overload, and do your best to strength train two or three times a week.
Now is the fun part: picking out your new, full-body routines. We've got lots: try this 30-minute weightlifting workout that's perfect for beginners; pump up your heart rate with this strength-building, HIIT-style video; or grab a pair of dumbbells for this fast and effective muscle-building routine. Let's get that burn on.
