A Quick Refresher on the Harsh Fate of Stranger Things Cinnamon Roll, Bob Newby

On a show like Netflix's Stranger Things, death and horror are just part of the experience. This is a story about a young group of kids who discover that their small town basically sits on a Hellmouth, so yeah, some death is to be expected. But still - even after we went through our grieving process over Barb - there's one that truly hit us deeply: the death of Bob Newby, aka Bob the Brain. The small-town hero (played by living legend Sean Astin) made his entrance and departure in season two of the sci-fi series, but he damn sure made his mark.

Bob is Hawkins's local RadioShack manager and the so-earnest-it-hurts new boyfriend of one Joyce Byers. He pretty much signs his death warrant by getting into the relationship, but he's also full of the sweetest dad jokes, so we just have to savor his angelic self while he's around. Over the course of the season we learn that not only is Bob a beautiful cinnamon roll who desires everything he wants, but he's also a former classmate of Joyce and Jim Hopper, who founded the Hawkins Middle AV Club that the boys gleefully take part in.

The Hawkins native visibly dotes on Joyce and even suggests that the two of them move out of the small town to Maine with Will and Jonathan (which is a great idea considering how terrible their life is there). He even reaches out to Will - currently fighting a mental battle against the Mind Flayer who is attacking his psyche with Upside-Down nightmares - and attempts to help him deal with them with a clever reference to Stephen King's It.

But all good things must come to an end and Bob meets his maker in the eighth episode of the second season. Everything goes to sh*t when Will is taken to Hawkins Lab and everyone realizes that he's been mentally hijacked by the Mind Flayer. Bob, Joyce, Hopper, Mike, and Dr. Owens find shelter in a control room when the Mind Flayer unleashes a pack of Demodogs into the lab, killing everyone else in the facility.

The power goes out, which puts the complex on lockdown and traps everyone inside with the monsters. As the only person who understands BASIC, Bob volunteers to go to the breaker room and turn the power back on, resetting the locks. He urges Hopper not to wait around for him when he gets the power back on, and with the guidance of Dr. Owens, is able to get to the breaker room and restore the power.

In a painful twist, just as Bob has been guided out of the lab and literally feet away from safety, he's tackled by a demodog and quickly torn apart as several others join the first. Joyce looks on in horror before Hopper guides her out and Bob Newby's chapter is officially closed.

Harsh, right? The season finale shows that the Byerses definitely haven't forgotten Bob, as they hang a hand-drawn picture of Bob dressed as a superhero on their refrigerator. A proper tribute to the hero that the folks of Hawkins needed, but will never know they had. R.I.P. Bob Newby.

Shay Mitchell Bares Her Pregnant Belly in Italy, Wearing Bikinis That Are Far From Boring

Fun fact: Shay Mitchell's growing belly looks even cuter in a bikini. The 32-year-old actress has always been a swimsuit queen in our books, and that sure hasn't changed since she recently revealed she's pregnant with her first child. Spider-Man: Far From Home Isn't the First Reveal of Spidey’s Identity

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Spider-Man: Far From Home!

The Spider-Man: Far From Home final scene introduces the spoiler to end all spoilers. Mysterio, despite succumbing to death as confirmed by Tony Stark's artificial intelligence EDITH, has the last laugh at the expense of our boy hero by exposing Spider-Man's alter ego to the world and naming Peter Parker as the perpetrator for the vicious drone attack on London. While this grave cliffhanger provides essential fodder for a sequel - as Parker will need to clear his name - the predicament implies larger repercussions for the global presence of Spider-Man.

Overall, the Marvel Cinematic Universe takes a different stance on hero identities than most feature film mega franchises in that a few characters, like Iron Man and War Machine, as well as Captain America and Captain Marvel, to a varying degree, have identities that are essentially part of the public knowledge within their worlds. However, a massive public reveal of a hero's secret identity isn't something the Marvel Cinematic Universe has dealt with since Phase 1. One could hypothesize that this breach of superhero protocol could affect Spider-Man's world in a manner that spills into other Marvel franchises. This, indeed, becomes a valid theory when we look at the unmasking of Spider-Man in the comics - an event that's happened at a familial level on numerous occasions, mostly due to Parker's own carelessness. However, there is one notable storyline that arose in the 2006 comic Civil War#2, a seven-issue series written by Mark Millar and penciled by Steve McNiven, that not only exposes Spider-Man's identity to the world but also echoes that of the film Captain America: Civil War and could inspire alternate storylines for other characters within the MCU.

In the comic, the US government passes the Superhero Registration Act designed to have those with superpowers file with the government, although their true identities would technically remain hidden. Like the film, Captain America opposes the act while Iron Man supports it with Spider-Man caught in the middle of their tense battle. The comic's main difference from the movie, however, is that after a soul-searching conversation with his Aunt May and wife MJ, Parker decides to publicly reveal his identity of his own volition as a message of peace. Spider-Man hopes to serve as an example for those who remain undecided and end the bickering from those who remain opposed.

Of course, the comic eventually rolls back the reveal with a moral dilemma and a bit of magic in Amazing Spider-Man #544 (2007), written by J. Michael Straczynski and penciled by Joe Quesada. As the story unfolds, Parker finds his Aunt May in mortal danger. In a fit of desperation to save her life, he allows the demon Mephisto to rewrite history. The cost of this reboot is that Parker's marriage to MJ disappears from existence, but the event also restores his secret identity.

Let's just hope the MCU uses this source material in a less heartbreaking manner, whether it decides to let Spider-Man's secret identity play out for the long haul like Iron Man's or uses the Mephisto storyline of self-sacrifice to finally bring the reality of the multiverse to the big screen.

Henry Cavill Smolders as Geralt of Rivia in First-Look Photos From Netflix's The Witcher

If you've grown tired of watching Henry Cavill fight evildoers and monsters in the DC universe as Superman, we have good news: you'll soon be able to watch him fight evildoers and monsters in a new universe! And this time, he'll be wearing a long, white wig. So, there's that.

On July 1, Netflix released a number of first-look images at its upcoming series The Witcher, which sees Cavill in the lead role as Geralt of Rivia, a sorcerer, outcast, and cold-blooded killer who's tasked with ridding the world of monsters. The TV adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski's fantasy novels, which also spawned an insanely popular video game of the same name, has Lauren Schmidt Hissrich - who's produced everything from The Defenders to Parenthood - on board as showrunner and has the cast all lined up. Yennefer will be played by Wanderlust and Sherwood alum Anya Chalotra, while Into the Badlands actress Freya Allan is taking on the role of Ciri.

Netflix's official description for the series is as follows:

The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.

Check out the first images from the series ahead, and if you're going to San Diego Comic-Con this year, make sure you stop by Hall H at 2:15 p.m. on July 19 to see the cast speak on a panel about the series moderated by sci-fi superfan Yvette Nicole Brown.

Spencer, Fridge, Martha, and Bethany Take Things to the Next Level in New Jumanji Trailer

The 2017 sequel to Jumanji, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, was a hilarious thrill ride from start to finish, and it seems like the next installment in the franchise will be much of the same.

In the first trailer for for Jumanji: The Next Level, we see young Spencer (Alex Wolff) longing for the friendships he shared with Fridge, Martha, and Bethany within the video game they got sucked into the previous year. So, despite knowing danger awaits him, he tinkers with it until he ends up back in the jungle they narrowly escaped the last time around. Naturally, his friends follow.

The adult avatars they initially chose (played by Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black) are back in action, albeit with some unexpected twists - Johnson's Spencer and Hart's Fridge are now the avatars of IRL Spencer and Fridge's grandfathers (played by Danny DeVito and Danny Glover). On top of that, the game has changed entirely, and the players now have to brave unexplored areas and new locales - dry AF deserts, snow-covered mountains - to save Spencer and once again escape the world of Jumanji.

Watch the trailer for the new film above, and keep an eye out for it when it swings into theaters on Christmas day.

Priyanka Chopra Says Meghan Markle Was "Meant For Big Things" in a Sweet New Interview

Priyanka Chopra is gushing over her good friend Meghan Markle! In the August issue of Elle UK, the 36-year-old actress - who has been friends with Meghan since 2016 - praises her companion for all she's accomplished over the years. "Megs . . . she was always meant for big things," Chopra said. "To be a change and be an important voice in doing that. It's amazing that she found that calling and has the platform to be able to do it."

Even before she married Prince Harry, Meghan used her platform to make a positive difference in the world. She's supported important causes, such as providing essentials for homeless shelters and soup kitchens, advocating for gender equality, and encouraging pet adoption. As a duchess, she's been able to bring awareness to the arts, as well as promote children's education around the world.

According to Priyanka, Meghan becoming royalty was fate. "By the time this comes out, she will have a baby - it's so amazing how lives change," she said, referring to Meghan and Harry's newborn, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. "I'm a big believer in taking charge of your life, but there's got to be something bigger that puts us into the circumstances that we are put in. Destiny has a weird way of helping you to find your calling."

Priyanka even revealed to Elle UK that she and Meghan might live in the same region at some point in the future. After being crowned the winner of 2000's Miss World pageant in London, Priyanka felt attached to the city. "I will never forget how the Millennium Dome [now The O2] looked that night, and how I felt after I won," she said. "Nick and I want to get a place in London at some point. Whenever I go there, I feel connected to the city."

This isn't the first time Priyanka has applauded Meghan. Back in June, she spoke about the Duchess of Sussex during an interview with The Sunday Times and pushed back on hypercritical reports about her. "It has to do with racism, it's an obvious reason," she said. "But the beauty of Meg is that she's been herself through all of this. A lot of people got to know her after everything [once she started dating Harry], but I knew her before, and she's the same chick." She went on to commend Meghan on her philanthropic attitude, adding, "What you see now is authentically her. She's always been the girl wanting to move the needle."

Is It a Summer Cold or Seasonal Allergies? A Doctor Explains How to Tell Them Apart

If you're suddenly feeling cold symptoms in the Summer, it's possible you've caught a virus - but how can you tell it's that and not seasonal allergies?

"Sneezing, congestion, and runny noses are all the prime symptoms of either a cold or an allergy," Lakiea Wright, MD, a board-certified physician in internal medicine and allergy and immunology at Brigham and Women's Hospital and the medical director at Thermo Fisher Scientific in Boston, told POPSUGAR. "And because allergies and colds share similar symptoms, people are often left wondering which offender is the true culprit."

One distinct difference: "The symptoms of a cold can become severe," she said. After all, your body is fighting a viral infection, rather than unleashing an immune response to a perceived threat, as it does when encountered with an allergen. Here are some symptoms of a cold that you're unlikely to have with allergies, according to Dr. Wright:

  • Fever: "Despite the term hay fever, there is no fever associated with allergies."
  • Headaches and muscle aches: "Very common in colds, but rare with allergies."
  • Runny nose: "Seasonal allergies usually produce clear nasal secretions; green or yellow mucus can indicate a cold or infection."
  • Cough: "Allergies usually create a dry cough. It's a direct reaction to something you're sensitive to in the airway. Coughs from colds (or the flu) tend to be on the wetter side (caused by mucus your body is trying to move out of your body)."

Ultimately, though, it might be the length of your symptoms that distinguishes them the most. "The duration of symptoms is a key determining factor between a cold and allergies," Dr. Wright explained. "Cold symptoms typically last about seven to 10 days. Allergy symptoms may last several weeks, especially depending on season and environment."

To make matters worse, your allergies may then lead to more illness. "The inflammation associated with allergies can make you more susceptible to catching a cold," she said. "It makes your membranes - which would normally serve as a barrier to protect you from viruses - leaky, making it easier for viruses to penetrate your immune system." So, if you've been feeling under the weather for a while or your symptoms become unbearable, talk to your doctor.

Prince Harry Attends the Diana Awards to Give a Heartfelt Speech About His Late Mother's Legacy

Prince Harry was front and center for the the Diana Award National Youth Mentoring Summit at The Banking Hall in London on Tuesday, just one day after what would have been his late mother's 58th birthday. The Duke of Sussex suited up in gray for the event, where he mingled and posed for photos with fellow attendees who are part of the organization's mentoring program; the Diana Award was established in 1999 with the aim of continuing the princess's philanthropic legacy in the UK.

During the summit, Harry took the stage to give a heartfelt speech about the importance of being a role model and leading by example with kindness. He spoke about his "newfound clarity as a father" since he and Meghan Markle welcomed son Archie Harrison in May and his "knowing that my son will be watching what I do, mimicking my behavior, [and] maybe one day following in my footsteps." Harry also cited the charitable influence of his mother, Diana, who died in 1997 when he was just 12 years old. "My mother, Princess Diana, was a role model to so many, without realizing the impact she would have on so many lives," Harry said. "You don't have to be a princess or a public figure to be a role model. In fact, it's equally valuable if you're not, because it's more relatable."

Harry and Meghan will join the rest of the royal family for baby Archie's christening at the queen's private chapel at Windsor Castle on July 6. Watch Harry's speech and see photos of his outing ahead.

The Spider-Man Cast Just Visited a Children's Hospital, and the Video Will Make Your Day

The cast of Spider-Man: Far From Home has been to many a press event since before the superhero flick hit theaters on July 2, but none of them can quite compare to the adorable visit the film's stars paid to a children's hospital earlier this week. Tom Holland, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Zendaya - who play Spider-Man, Mysterio, and MJ, respectively - recently popped up at Children's Hospital Los Angeles to surprise patients who were attending an advance screening of the new movie.

The actors arrived in costume to chat with the excited group of youngsters, and Tom Holland, of course, wowed the crowd with a few effortless backflips before heading from room to room to sign autographs and take pictures with patients. Selena Gomez Is Hot and Unbothered During a Bachelorette Party on the Beach

Selena Gomez had some fun in the sun during a beach day in Punta Mita, Mexico, last week. On Sunday, the singer and actress slipped into a sleek white one-piece L*Space swimsuit to celebrate a friend's bachelorette party and was spotted helping her pal adjust her bridal veil on the beach. Selena also took to the ocean for a relaxing paddleboarding session and looked completely unbothered in the waves. Anyone else need a vacation right about now?

Selena recently starred in the zombie comedy The Dead Don't Die and premiered the movie alongside costars Bill Murray, Chloë Sevigny, and Adam Driver at the Cannes Film Festival last month. She also promoted the flick during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and revealed that she's finished her upcoming album, which promises "a sense of strong pop." It's been nearly four years since Selena's last project, Revival, and I think we're all ready for some fresh new bops from the star. Keep reading to see her Summer vacation vibes in action.

Jason Momoa, His Biceps, and Lisa Bonet Make Quite a Sight by the Pool in Italy

Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet are bringing the heat to Venice. Shortly after Lisa's daughter, Zoë Kravitz, tied the knot with Karl Glusman in Paris, Jason and Lisa spent the afternoon poolside in Italy - the prime way to enjoy Summer, IMO. On Tuesday, Jason lounged shirtless by the water (peep the signature scruff growing back nicely) while Lisa strolled around wearing a beachy red dress and tan fedora.

Jason and Lisa are taking their time in Europe with their children, 11-year-old Lola and 10-year-old Nakoa-Wolf, after celebrating Zoë's wedding weekend. The Aquaman actor and former Cosby Show star have been together since 2005 when they met through a mutual friend, and subsequently married in October 2017. They've been making PDA-heavy red carpet appearances ever since, and we love them for it. Ahead, see even more snaps from their temperature-raising getaway.

Post-Gone Girl, Here's How These Authors Are Moving the Psychological Thriller Genre Forward

Gillian Flynn paved - nay, frickin' bulldozed - the way for female authors in the psychological thriller genre when she published her bestselling novel Gone Girl in 2012. The story follows Nick Dunne, a man who is suspected of murdering his wife, Amy, when she goes missing on their wedding anniversary. Filled with almost too many shocking twists to count, the book was met with critical acclaim - so much so that an equally as popular film adaptation was released in 2014 with Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike as the leads.

"She came out of the gate talking about women in a frank and disturbing way we hadn't really seen."

In the seven years since Gone Girl's publication, the novel has continuously inspired other women in the same genre to push the envelope. Four of those said writers - Wendy Walker, Andrea Bartz, Rachel Howzell Hall, and Michele Campbell - shared their insights on Flynn's impactful work and the future of the novel category at POPSUGAR Play/Ground this year. For Bartz, author of The Lost Night, Flynn's portrayal of Amy in Gone Girl provided a much-needed example of giving female characters a gritty edge beneath a veneer of perfection. "She came out of the gate talking about women in a frank and disturbing way we hadn't really seen, and the world was ready for it," Bartz said on the ThrillHER panel at Play/Ground. "Now it feels pretty familiar, but it actually was quite new [back then]."

Hall, author of They All Fall Down, echoed a similar sentiment, noting that Flynn developed the antithesis of the overused "manic pixie girl" character. "We were so tired of that, and finally here's this woman that curses and drinks and plots setting her husband up," Hall said of Gone Girl's leading lady, Amy.

"This genre has allowed writers to explore the female psyche with a new kind of freedom."

Seeing as many novels in the thriller genre focus on male protagonists, Flynn putting Amy's complexities at the forefront was pretty trailblazing and has since driven other writers to give their female characters similar psychological depth, The Night Before author Walker said during the panel discussion. "This genre has allowed writers to explore the female psyche with a new kind of freedom where we can apply all of the psychological conditions and behaviors that originally in suspense were with male characters," she said. "Women were sort of either total crazy sociopaths or detectives or victims, and now they can be so nuanced." Walker is aware that some critics think doing so gives women a bad rap, but she isn't here for the naysayers. "I don't think it's making women look bad. I think it's basically saying there's a whole spectrum of psychological characteristics that apply to men and women. It has nothing to do with gender; it has to do with psychology." Amen to that!

Bartz explained that Flynn "kicked off this new era of domestic noir," driving her, as a single woman in her 30s, to give her thriller a "female-driven" storyline that doesn't revolve around the romance between a man and woman. "There's just as much intrigue and intensity and passion and drama in friendships, for women especially, as there are in romantic relationships," Bartz explained of The Lost Night. "For me, it was really fun to push the genre away from 'Oh, she's the wife who seems to have the perfect marriage but actually doesn't' . . . and push it into exploring all the intense social webs of a single woman."

Yes, Peter Parker Is Still a High Schooler in Spider-Man: Far From Home - Here's Why

Avengers: Endgame might tie up some loose ends, but it also blasts a gargantuan hole through the wall of possibility for Marvel's fourth phase. Spider-Man: Far From Home is the official final movie in the Infinity Saga, and it's already giving us a glimpse at just how wild things are going to get once we dive into the new MCU era. We already know that the film hints at the possibility of a multiverse - an infinite realm in which different versions of our world exist - but there's another anomalous occurrence that the movie addresses: how the heck are Peter Parker (Tom Holland) and his classmates still in high school?

The answer is simple, albeit trippy. But let's first rewind a bit. We already know that Thanos delivers the noxious snap in Avengers: Infinity War and wipes out half the universe, including Spider-Man (and no, we're still not over his heartbreaking "death" scene). After the Avengers suffer from that devastating defeat, it takes them five years to figure out a way to hatch a victorious plan and bring back everyone who whisked into thin air.

Peter's friend Ned (Jacob Batalon), his crush MJ (Zendaya), and his nemesis Flash Thompson (Tony Revolori) are among those in his class to have evaporated in what they now call "the blip" (which is considerably less dramatic than the comic book's labeling of the event as "the Decimation"). So if they vanished for five years, it might be hard to imagine why they're still in high school. But here's why that is: anyone who was affected by the snap simply didn't age within those years. And those who were left - including the new character and high school stud Brad Davis (Remy Hii) - did get older.

When Iron Man brings back the fallen, he isn't technically creating a different timeline in which they all age before joining together at the battlefield. It'd be pretty hard for specks of dust to age anyway. Iron Man is just undoing what was carried out five years prior, but within that present timeline (with the help of Doctor Strange, of course). So in a way, time as we know it stood still - or, perhaps more accurately, ceased to exist - for the dusted. That means their physical beings are based on who they were before the snap, even though their existence resumes in a latter-day timeline.

Mike Has Won Fans Over on The Bachelorette - Get to Know Him Even Better

The Bachelorette isn't even over yet, but Bachelor Nation is already rallying behind one contestant for the next season of The Bachelor. Ever since Mike Johnson stepped out of the limo, fans have been swooning hard for the 31-year-old. And it's not hard to tell why. Not only is he easy on the eyes, but he really is a sweetheart.

So, just who is Mike? According to his bio on ABC, he is a portfolio manager and Air Force vet who hails from San Antonio. Aside from his work as a portfolio manager, it appears he's also dabbled in modeling based on his dapper Instagram photos. In his free time, he enjoys Krav Maga and going to trampoline parks. He describes himself as a "city boy who loves to get down and dirty," which makes him a great fit for Hannah Brown.

During episode three of The Bachelorette, Mike showed us his vulnerable side as he opened up about one of his previous relationships. As Mike explained, he and his ex were expecting a baby together, but they ended up losing the child during the second trimester. Though it was a difficult point in his life, he clearly is a family man at heart as he is constantly sharing photos of his loved ones on social media.

In the most recent episode, fans were crushed when Hannah decided to send Mike home after feeling like she had a stronger connection with some of the other men. Of course, the good news is now there's even more of a chance that we'll see him on The Bachelor next season. Consider this our official petition to have Mike as the next Bachelor!
