Orange Is the New Black Launched a Criminal Justice Reform Fund to Help Incarcerated Women
Orange Is the New Black is officially on a mission to help incarcerated women on and off screen. On Thursday, Netflix posted a YouTube video announcing the launch of The Poussey Washington Fund, which will support eight non-profit organizations focused on issues and themes relevant to the women throughout the series, including criminal justice reform, ending mass incarceration, and protecting immigrant rights.
The fund is named after Samira Wiley's character Poussey Washington, a Litchfield inmate who is accidentally suffocated during a prison riot by an untrained corrections officer. Following Poussey's death, her best friend Taystee starts a foundation in her name to help incarcerated women, and the show has since made it a reality. "Through the Poussey Washington Fund, our characters can live on and continue to make an impact after the show has come to an end," the show's creator Jenji Kohan told The Hollywood Reporter. "Taystee recognized an opportunity to make a difference for her fellow inmates, and we saw no reason why we couldn't launch our own initiative to have an effect in the real world."
In playing Poussey, Wiley has seen the impact that her character's story line and that of other characters has had on viewers. "We have seen how Orange Is the New Black has impacted you and people all over the world," Wiley said in the video announcing the initiative. "We've been honored to tell these stories of these characters, and we've learned first-hand that the system is failing women, both inside and outside of prison walls."

The eight programs supported by the fund aim to help women from all walks of life who are affected by the prison industrial complex in the United States.
"A number of [the programs] are led by formerly incarcerated women, which is really important to all of us who are associated with the fund," said Piper Kerman, the author of Orange Is the New Black: My Year in a Women's Prison, which inspired the Netflix series. "These are programs, quite frankly, that should be replicated in every state in the country . . . The Poussey Washington Fund has the potential to be really transformative to these organizations, and I believe the fans will absolutely rise to the challenge." In addition to supporting the foundation, Kerman continues to urge lawmakers to pass criminal justice reforms to improve conditions for female inmates.

The New Downton Abbey Movie Poster Is Nothing Short of Glamorous
Hopefully you have a steaming pot of tea at your disposal, because you'll need it after looking at all of the posters for the Downton Abbey movie.
The most recently released poster, which made its debut on July 22, features the Crawley family standing inside their stately home looking every bit as regal as ever, while the house staff strikes a pose below. The new image comes after a handful of group posters and solo shots released ahead of the film's September debut. For instance, Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) and Lady Edith (Laura Carmichael) make cameos in two of the posters celebrating the film, both wearing beaded, flapper-style gowns and silk gloves that have us suddenly craving a reread of The Great Gatsby (we see that '20s bob, Mary). In addition to the Crawley siblings, the posters also feature a sliver of Thomas Barrow (Robert James-Collier) and Andrew "Andy" Parker (Michael C. Fox), looking sharp n their uniforms.
For those of you who still haven't found the time to binge-watch all six seasons of the critically acclaimed TV series that follows the lives of the Crawley family and the servants who work for them at the turn of the 20th century, hopefully you'll get a chance before the Downton Abbey movie hits theaters on Sept. 20, 2019.

Can't Remember If Certain Batteries Are Dead? Try This Simple (and Really Cool) Trick
Have you ever gone to turn the channel while watching TV and your remote suddenly stopped working? Or you notice the hands on the clock on the wall definitely haven't moved in over an hour? After you desperately search for spare batteries and find a handful of loose ones in a random drawer, you probably have no idea if they are fresh or were used before. But instead of wasting time trying to remember, there's a supersimple trick to figuring out if your batteries are out of charge or not.
All you have to do is hold the battery a few inches above a hard surface, such as a hardwood floor or a kitchen table. If you release the battery and it falls straight down, hitting the surface with a "thump" sound, then that means the battery is charged. A charged battery may also "stand up" on its own when dropped. On the other hand, if you drop the battery and it bounces and falls over, that means the battery is dead and will not be able to provide any power to your devices.
Why does this happen? Well, according to the above video, when the alkaline inside a battery becomes depleted, it creates a gas, which causes its inability to stand up on its own.

A New Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark Trailer Is Here, and No, I Will Never Sleep Again
I don't know about you, but I spent many a night as a kid reading (and later, having nightmares about) Alvin Schwartz's Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark series. (If parking anywhere at night doesn't give you flashbacks to "The Hook," then you're made of much stronger stuff than I.) And now, because apparently he doesn't want me to sleep as an adult, either, Guillermo del Toro is bringing the iconic tales to the big screen.
The film adaptation of the same name is directed by André Øvredal, and was penned by del Toro, Daniel Hageman, and Kevin Hageman. Judging from the new trailer for the horror flick, which hits theaters on Aug. 9, it seems the creepy visuals were directly inspired by the original illustrations for Schwartz's books done by Stephen Gammell. Starring Zoe Colletti, Michael Garza, Gabriel Rush, Austin Abrams, and more, the official plot description from Lionsgate is as follows:
"It's l968 in America. Change is blowing in the wind . . . but seemingly far removed from the unrest in the cities is the small town of Mill Valley where for generations, the shadow of the Bellows family has loomed large. It is in their mansion on the edge of town that Sarah, a young girl with horrible secrets, turned her tortured life into a series of scary stories, written in a book that has transcended time - stories that have a way of becoming all too real for a group of teenagers who discover Sarah's terrifying tome."

'Tis the season for Christmas movies! At least, it is according to Lifetime, which just announced its 2019 Christmas movie lineup, and '90s kids are going to recognize a lot of familiar faces. As part of the channel's "It's A Wonderful Lifetime" holiday campaign, we can expect to see 28 new Lifetime Christmas movies this year, premiering from Oct. 25 to Dec. 25.

Lynn, who considered Cline a mentor, later released an album in her honor, I Remember Patsy, which included several covers of Cline's songs, including "Crazy" and "I Fall to Pieces." 27 Veronica Mars Fans Who Would Like to Speak to the Manager About THAT Shocking Death
Let me get something off my chest really quick: what the hell, Veronica Mars?! How could you do that?! OK, OK. Deep breaths. Before I spin out into a rage spiral, let me back up and explain, you guys. (Just be warned: Giant spoilers for Veronica Mars ahead!)
After showrunner Rob Thomas brought the beloved mystery drama back from the dead for a fourth season on Hulu this Summer, fans likely expected to see Kristen Bell's titular character balancing solving crimes like she did in the original three seasons with her romance with longtime love Logan Echolls (Jason Dohring). And for most of the eight-episode season, she does! She and Logan are living together, with Logan occasionally needing to jet off with the Navy while Veronica holds down the fort in Neptune. In season four, the couple even teams up to help figure out who the bomber plaguing Neptune is (and they get married!). And then, in the last few minutes of the finale, Logan is tragically blown to smithereens by one final bomb. So, again I say: what the hell, Veronica Mars?!
Although Thomas has defended the decision, Logan's untimely demise is not sitting well with fans (I can vouch). Watching Logan finally evolve into the more mature, stable partner that Veronica not only deserved, but desperately needed, only to receive a pointless death? So she can . . . what, become even more cynical and jaded than she already is? It's disappointing, to say the least. Fortunately, we can all grieve Logan together, as you'll see in the tweets ahead.
