Cleo Wade Wants to Remind You "There's Nothing Wrong With Being Pissed Off"

When 30-year-old speaker and poet Cleo Wade and 85-year-old feminist icon Gloria Steinem sat down in a Beverly Hills ballroom for a conversation on activism, hope, and progress, they did so in front of a crowd of women whose diversity in age reflected their own. More than 650 people - mostly women ranging in age from teenagers to women of Steinem's generation - packed into the Nov. 18 event hosted by Visionary Women, a nonprofit women's leadership network.

"Because I remember when things were worse, I have hope."

Wade and Steinem seized the opportunity to get candid about how important it is that we band together across generations. Steinem pointed out that age discrimination can be just as divisive as any kind of discrimination -- whether it's leveled against younger or older people. She said making friends and finding collaborators of different ages is vital in life and activism. "I just had to wait for some of my friends to be born," she quipped. From her perspective, she said, she had many decades of perspective to offer those friends: "Because I remember when things were worse, I have hope." And when they opened things up for a Q&A with the audience, one 22-year-old's question about being discounted as a young woman really stood out.

"I am a part of Gen Z, and sometimes it feels like we are the underrated youth," she said. "We are the kids that are always on our phones that every generation looks down on and says, 'Oh my gosh, they're always on their phones, they're never gonna do anything.' So as someone who has lived through the revolution and now we have to start a new one, what is your advice to start the revolution? What's your advice for being heard when you're a little bit underestimated and still young?"

Steinem didn't pause for a second. "Anybody that underestimates you is crazy, OK? And the comparatively lower turnout of younger voters is something that I think we see rapidly changing," she said. "In fact, we see younger candidates for office than we ever had before. Don't let anyone tell you that your generation is - just don't listen to that. You have the biggest stake in the future obviously. So you have the biggest motive to make it a better future and to be an activist and to get your age group out there. And we are just here to make you look reasonable."

"I also think it's important to remember that there is nothing wrong with being pissed off."

Steinem's latest book is a collection of her most memorable and impactful quotes titled The Truth Will Set You Free, But First it Will Piss You Off, so when I had the chance to ask her a question before the audience, I had youth in mind, too. What would she say to young women who don't have as much lived experience or perspective and feel more pissed off than free these days? Steinem, despite her legacy and experience, was hesitant to dole out advice.

"I worry a little bit about the question because it's as if I have the answer, and I think actually each young woman has the answer," she said. "And my job is to support her. If we just say, 'OK, I'm going to act on every unfairness I see, however small or large it may be. I'm gonna do whatever I can all the time, and find companionship with other people who are doing that,' then we'll get there. It's not looking up for advice. It's looking to your own sense of what is fair and what is unjust and acting on it."

Wade followed up with another point about rage - one so good, it made me want to print out and frame it.

"I also think it's important to remember that there is nothing wrong with being pissed off," she said, generating lots of applause. "I think a lot of the times we are afraid to be angry, or we think that anger is a sign that something is wrong. And anger is a sign that something is wrong around us, not within us."

Before You Watch Netflix's Bikram Doc, You Should Know Where the Disgraced Yogi Is Now

Netflix's Bikram: Yogi, Guru, Predator documentary presents an in-depth look at the cult-like founder of Bikram yoga (a specific type of hot yoga). While the practice of hot yoga has helped people worldwide, there is a dark side to Bikram Choudhury, a man who abused his power while teaching yoga classes by making racist, homophobic, and degrading comments about his students - and who allegedly did much worse behind closed doors.

Since 2013, six women have come forward to accuse the yogi of rape and sexual assault: Jill Lawler, Sarah Baughn, Larissa Anderson, Maggie Genthner, Dana McLellan, and a woman who goes by Jane Doe #3 to protect her anonymity. After hearing their allegations, the question on your mind will be, "Is Bikram Choudhury in jail?" The short answer is no, and aside from leaving his life in the United States behind him, the yogi hasn't been forced to deal with the serious consequences of his alleged actions.

Only one woman has successfully won a judgment in court against Choudhury: his former lawyer Micki Jafa-Bodden. She sued for wrongful termination and sexual harassment, but by the time she won her lawsuit, the yogi had left the United States and divorced his wife in a move that may have been designed to protect his assets. Since Choudhury was in no hurry to pay Jafa-Bodden, she was awarded his intellectual property, what was left of his business, and his collection of cars. In May 2017, a warrant for his arrest was issued due to his failure to pay his former lawyer what was owed to her.

As for Choudhury, he's still teaching his nine-week training sessions for $10,000 per student in Mexico and India. He reportedly no longer draws the same crowds that he did at the height of his fame, but per ESPN's 30 for 30 podcast, in the Fall of 2017 he had 70 students in his class. He holds these classes twice a year, which adds up to a tidy sum of money. One of his most recent classes was held in Acapulco, Mexico - and according to The Huffington Post, the yoga studios that retain the Bikram name may still owe a percentage of their profits to the disgraced yogi, although it's unclear whether he's profiting off of the businesses at this time.

While many practitioners of hot yoga have sought to distance themselves from Choudhury, the truth that he's still teaching classes and living his life despite the horrifying allegations against him shows that he hasn't faced any serious consequences for his alleged actions.

Pete Davidson Transformed Into a Naked Ken Doll, and I'm . . . Uncomfortable

Pete Davidson is one of the two cover stars for Paper magazine's #BreaktheInternet issue this year (BTS is the second), and he left nothing to the imagination in his unique cover shoot. The spread reimagined the Saturday Night Live star as a giant Ken doll complete with biceps, abs, and, uh, no pants. Also, where did his nipples go?

Pete was joined by a model dressed like Barbie herself, and they had more than a little fun together. The two did everything from tanning in the back garden to enjoying a bubble bath together. There were even a few more risqué photos that showed Barbie with her zebra print heel pressed on his crotch, which definitely seemed like a nod to his "HUUUUGE" BDE (Big D*ck Energy).

In Fascinating News: These Were the Biggest Beauty Brands Around the World in 2019

Beauty is, for all intents and purposes, an international language. You needn't download Google Translate on your iPhone to understand lipstick or know you like someone's hair color, and you certainly don't need frequent flyer miles to be well-versed in buzzy beauty brands.

As it turns out, many of the cosmetics companies you know and love have an even bigger reach around the world. According to global beauty discovery platform Cosmetify, which analyzed the monthly search data across more than 1,500 beauty brands in each country, some have ballooned in popularity in certain markets more than others - and the findings are downright fascinating, to say the least.

Kylie Cosmetics, for example, is one of the most-searched brands in more than 10 countries (perhaps a reason it was recently acquired by Coty?), while brands like Glossier and RMK are only popular in one or two. You could hover over the "buy now" button on Priceline to ask people yourself, or you could just keep reading for the biggest brands of 2019 around the world.

New Moms, Listen Up: Kayla Itsines Launched a Postpregnancy Workout Program Just For You

BBG, short for Bikini Body Guide, has been around for the better part of this decade thanks to Australian trainer Kayla Itsines. She then launched the SWEAT app, where you can find BBG as well as the more gym-focused BBG Stronger. On Nov. 18, Kayla officially added two new programs to the BBG family: BBG Beginner and Post-Pregnancy. These two in particular are close to her heart because, seven weeks after giving birth to her daughter, Arna, she was cleared to work out again, and her journey to regaining her strength commenced. It was a slow and steady process that, to her, was humbling, and she's still getting back to where she used to be. Kayla sat down with POPSUGAR to discuss these new programs that she can't wait to share with the world.

What Is Kayla Itsines's BBG Beginner Program?

The first four out of 12 weeks of Kayla's original BBG program are considered beginner level, but BBG Beginner itself is a separate eight weeks, and even the first four weeks of that have zero jumping. "BBG Beginner is a low-impact, low-intensity program that will slowly increase and allow you to enter into BBG, which is a high-intensity program," Kayla told POPSUGAR. "I felt like there was a need for BBG Beginner because I myself started off after postpregnancy into working in the beginner phase."

BBG Beginner is still set up like BBG, Kayla said. "It's time-based, there are more rests, but it gives you three exercises or, when you go up further [into the program], four exercises within a seven-minute time frame." Each week, you'll have two resistance-training workouts: lower-body and full-body. There are also low-intensity cardio sessions (LISS) like walking or biking built in, and the upper-body day that is optional in the first six weeks will become recommended in the last two. (Note: you'll be using light dumbbells for both BBG Beginner and Post-Pregnancy, and Kayla suggests picking a weight that you can do 12 to 15 reps with and feel the resistance.)

Kayla explained, "BBG Beginner was designed for the person who either hasn't worked out before and wants to build that foundational strength and fitness or for someone who was super fit but has taken six months off, and then doesn't want to go straight back into high-intensity and wants something that they can just start off with to build that strength." You'll have access to BBG Beginner if you pay the monthly ($20) or annual ($120) fee for the SWEAT app. Kayla answered more questions about BBG Beginner on her website.

What Is Kayla Itsines's Post-Pregnancy Program?

As mentioned above, Kayla was cleared by her doctor seven weeks after giving birth. She went to her physical therapist and worked through what exercises were safe for her to ease into (it was a lot of band work, she said). When she went back to the gym shortly after, she could barely keep up a 14-minute slow walk on the treadmill. She focused a lot on posture, and, because she had a C-section, ab exercises where she was sitting up were off limits at first, she said. Lunges were particularly difficult due to the way her C-section was cut. Kayla recalled, "I sort of just showed up day after day and just did a little bit, so it'd be a five-minute workout and then a 10-minute workout." Now, she said, she's built back up to doing the 28-minute workouts that BBG is known for.

Post-Pregnancy, backed by medical professionals, allows you to go at your own pace, which differs from how the other BBG programs are structured. "It's very focused on things that you need as a postpregnant mom," Kayla explained. "Great posture, correct posture, mobility, being able to move." It also is dependent on your own journey - before you start the program, you'll answer questions about the delivery you had and if there were any complications. It's a 12-week program with four extra foundation weeks in the beginning honed in entirely on rebuilding foundational core and pelvic floor strength.

Each week, there are two recommended workouts, Upper Body & Core and Lower Body & Core, and an optional full-body session. The workouts themselves take less time than typical BBG sessions - 15 to 25 minutes - and there are even shorter optional sessions that you can tack on as well: Upper-Body Posture, Hip Strength, and Lower-Back Relief. And, like BBG Beginner and the rest of Kayla's BBG programs, a few days of LISS are also built in.

"Post-Pregnancy is not a progression into any of the programs. It is a program within itself," Kayla noted. You can redo it if you listen to your body and realize you're not ready for anything further. You can also, Kayla said, try BBG Beginner depending on how you're feeling. Before getting started with Post-Pregnancy, Kayla advised you get clearance from your doctor. And, like BBG Beginner, you'll get access to it when you download and pay for that app. Kayla answered more questions about the Post-Pregnancy program on her website.

Looking Ahead

Kayla said that, after experiencing her own postpartum and beginner fitness journeys, she's able to confidently give guidance for those stages of a person's life with her two new programs. From there, people can take on BBG and BBG Stronger. Kayla's goal now is to get even "stronger and better" than she was before her pregnancy.

She said, "I think it took me three months to just ease into beginner work," and shared that progressing back into chin-ups was a big milestone for her in the strength-regaining process. She couldn't even do one at first, but she walked herself through what she typically tells her clients who are learning chin-ups, working with bands and practicing holding herself up to the bar. Only recently did she reach her goal of 15 in a row - and it felt amazing. "I just freaked out. My legs were shaking from excitement, and it was just a moment where I felt so proud of myself as an athlete. You set those goals for yourself and you complete them," Kayla stated. "I was my own motivation and my own trainer."

Here's What Scammer Anna Delvey - Netflix's Latest TV Subject - Is Doing Now

From Hustlers to The Inventor, we've been seeing a slew of female scammers in pop culture recently. The latest grifter to get the onscreen treatment is none other than fake heiress Anna Delvey - born Anna Sorokin - an NYC "socialite" who stole money from her friends to keep up with a lavish lifestyle.

Shonda Rhimes has rights to the New York Magazine story about Sorokin along with a bountiful Netflix deal. While we await actress Julia Garner's take on Sorokin/Delvey in the upcoming Inventing Anna, where exactly has the real NYC con artist been since her scams fell through?

Let's first talk about Sorokin's origin story. Sorokin first arrived in New York City in 2013 at age 22, telling acquaintances that her father, really a former trucker in rural Germany, was everything from an oil industry titan to a Russian diplomat. Her claims of a 60-million euro trust fund ushered her into the city's elite social circles. The con artist attended fancy parties, rode private jets, tipped exorbitantly, and made plans to set up an art club called the Anna Delvey Foundation. In addition to scamming friends for thousands of dollars, Sorokin forged bank statements and deposited bad checks, taking out money before her checks bounced.

Her scheming days came to an end in 2017 when a friend came to an assistant district attorney to pursue legal actions after Delvey stole dozens of thousands of dollars from her. Before her sketchy activities stopped, Sorokin took from friends, businesses, and banks an approximate $275,000.

Determined guilty for grand larceny and theft of services, Sorokin learned her sentence on May 9, 2019 after a brief trial. She received four to 12 years in prison, needed to pay $199,000 in restitution, and was fined $24,000. The fake heiress also faced the possibility of deportation to Germany for overstaying her visa. Her current residence is at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility, though she spent her time on trial at Rikers Island, where it's rumored she found a girlfriend.

Netflix reportedly agreed to pay her $100,000, plus $15,000 per episode for consulting and $7,500 in royalty fees for her story, but the state of New York invoked the Son of Sam law, which prevents criminals from profiting off of their crimes. Judge Diane Kiesel has signed a restitution order for $198,956.19, which would go towards paying back the banks that Sorokin scammed.

Sorokin hasn't shown remorse for her crimes, telling The New York Times, "I'd be lying to you and to everyone else and to myself if I said I was sorry for anything." In prison, she's accumulated over 13 infractions for fighting and disobedience. While at Rikers, she planned to write two memoirs: one on her misadventures in New York and another on her time in prison.
