The Confession Killer: Ottis Toole's Story Is Even Worse Than Henry Lee Lucas's

While most serial killers work alone, it's not always the case. Now the subjects of Netflix's latest true-crime docuseries The Confession Killer, Ottis Toole and Henry Lee Lucas would develop a sexual relationship and bond over a mutual fascination with murder. Lucas confessed to killing over 600 people, while Toole admitted to a little less: just over 100, including Adam Walsh, the six-year-old son of America's Most Wanted host John Walsh.

In 1976, Toole and Lucas first encountered each other at a soup kitchen. The men shared deep similarities: both grew up in abusive households and had a penchant for murder. Also like Lucas, Toole first killed in adolescence at age 14, claiming to have run over a salesman who made advances towards him. After hitting things off, Toole and Lucas supposedly abducted, raped, and murdered as they drifted across the country together. Lucas later became involved with Toole's intellectually impaired niece Frieda "Becky" Powell and killed her along with his 82-year-old landlord Kate Rich.

In 1982, Toole set a fire that killed 64-year-old George Sonnenberg in Jacksonville, FL. Soon after getting convicted for that crime, he was indicted for the murder of a 19-year-old woman in Tallahassee. Later, he also pled guilty for four other deaths in Florida. And long before that, Toole was also a prime suspect for the deaths of Patricia Webb and Ellen Holman.

The biggest twist in Toole's story is that in prison, he corroborated Lucas's claims of a murder spree during their cross-country trip. Toole admitted to helping Lucas with 108 murders. However, much like Lucas's confessions, most of Toole's turned out to be false. Still, while law enforcement convicted Toole for six counts of murder, it's entirely possible that he may have had more victims. Years after his death to cirrhosis in 1996, authorities stated in 2008 that he likely killed and beheaded 6-year-old Adam Walsh in 1981.

Hooked on Servant? Here's When New Episodes Are Set to Drop

M. Night Shyamalan's spectacularly creepy thriller Servant premiered Nov. 28 on Apple TV+, with the first three episodes dropping all at once. If you're used to watching full seasons on Netflix or Hulu, three episodes may have felt like a mere teaser. In case you're banking on watching episodes immediately to avoid spoilers on Twitter, you may want to know exactly when fresh episodes are coming out - we've got you covered.

Similar to Disney+, Apple TV+ is experimenting with a hybrid release model. With some shows, like Servant, Apple TV+ premieres several episodes at once to garner attention and hook viewers. After the initial release, they adopt a more traditional pattern, debuting new episodes once weekly. Despite Servant's first episodes premiering on Thursday, Apple has confirmed the remainder of the season will air on Fridays. And just like Disney's streaming of The Mandalorian, Apple promotes the airdate of the releases and not so much the time. However, they remain pretty consistent with dropping episodes at 3 a.m. Eastern time, which is subsequently at midnight Pacific time. Apple's headquarters resides in Cupertino, CA, so the midnight release may or may not have something to do with their own time zone scheduling, but it might be safer to assume the timing is so the show is available to everyone within the continental US to access on the same day. Which is fair, because, you know, spoilers.

The benefit of the episodes dropping in the morning is that the method allows viewers to watch whenever they want the day of, and no one is restricted to a set time. So, unlike HBO where we were all scrambling to turn on Game of Thrones at exactly 6 p.m or 9 p.m., Apple's model provides for a lot more flexibility.

Servant has already been renewed for another season (proving it really is just that good) and Shyamalan has already spoken about his vision for a full six seasons. If you haven't jumped into the story, it should be fairly easy to binge the first few episodes to catch up!

Lena Waithe's New Comedy Series Twenties Looks Like a Solid Representation of Adulthood

No one ever said being a 20-something was easy, but it's still a hilariously wild ride anyway. That's pretty much the basis for Lena Waithe's new project, Twenties, a comedy series that the Emmy winner dropped the first official trailer for on Dec. 3. The show is based on Waithe's 2013 web series of the same name, and it's set to premiere on BET in early 2020.

According to EW, the debut season will feature eight episodes that follow Hattie (Jonica "JoJo" T. Gibbs), an aspiring TV writer, and her two best friends, Marie (Christina Elmore) and Nia (Gabrielle Graham), as they all navigate - you guessed it - life in their 20s. From the looks of the trailer, the show will also feature an all-star group of guest stars that include Big Sean, Vanessa Williams, Rick Fox, Iman Shumpert, and more. Watch the full trailer for Twenties above!

Amazon Made a Documentary About Mariah Carey's Christmas Hit, Because She IS Christmas

When we think of Christmas, we think of Santa Claus and Mariah Carey, and Amazon is ready to celebrate that. On Dec. 4, Amazon Music released the trailer for its upcoming minidocumentary, Mariah Carey Is Christmas: The Story of "All I Want For Christmas Is You," which will honor the talented singer and her iconic 1994 hit. Releasing later this month, the documentary will dive into the story behind the hit song and how it came to be such a success. The song has spent 36 cumulative weeks at No. 1 on Billboard's holiday chart since 2011 and is showing no signs of slowing down.

"To come up with an original holiday song that becomes a hit [is] next to impossible," Carey's longtime collaborator Randy Jackson said in the trailer. Now, 25 years later, we'll learn about Carey's inspiration and how she created the song and her first holiday album, Merry Christmas, in October 1994. The Confession Killer: How Many People Did Henry Lee Lucas Actually Kill?

Would you believe someone if they confessed to over 600 murders? Netflix is back with its true-crime content, this time taking on the very curious case of convicted murderer Henry Lee Lucas in the docuseries The Confession Killer. During his longest stint in prison, Lucas confessed to hundreds of murders, which, ironically, brought him preferential treatment in jail. But obviously, there have been reasonable doubts over Lucas's grand claims. So, how many people did history's allegedly most prolific murderer actually kill? The answer is probably much less.

Let's rewind to Lucas's first known murder. In 1960, Lucas, just 23 at the time, was arrested for killing his abusive mother during an argument. Despite claiming self-defense, he faced a 20- to 40-year sentence at Michigan State Penitentiary. In 1970, he was released from jail on parole due to prison overcrowding. Lucas returned to prison in Texas during the '80s after confessing to the murders of his girlfriend Becky Powell and 82-year-old landlord Kate Rich. During his arraignment, he then asked the judge what they should do about the other 100 women he had killed. That, of course, raised a red flag for law enforcement.

Texan Sheriff Jim Boutwell created a task force to look into Lucas's alleged murder spree, which he supposedly committed with his partner Ottis Toole, Powell's uncle. Boutwell took Lucas seriously because Lucas could conjure up important details about the cases, even when he appeared all too willing to confess with every interrogation. Lucas confessed to hundreds of murders, allowing the police to close 213 unsolved cases. Law enforcement even developed a rapport with him, bringing him milkshakes and letting him wander freely without handcuffs. His knowledge of the crime scenes was uncanny, but it was likely that he parroted back clues that investigators gave him.

At the end of the day, the logistics of Lucas's confessions didn't really make sense. While he was convicted for 11 murders in total, his claimed kill count, often inconsistent, ranged from 100 to 600. But homicide detectives persevered and talked to him about an estimate of 3,000 homicides in 40 states. Reporter Hugh Aynesworth also pointed out that Lucas would have had to drive 11,000 miles in October 1978 alone to murder eight people. Moreover, DNA evidence has shown that he didn't kill 20 of his alleged victims. Journalists and officers who studied him believe that his stories were made up for him to maintain preferential treatment and celebrity status, as well as for Boutwell to appear like a hero. Many victims' families did not believe Lucas killed their loved ones either.

Lucas eventually received a death sentence for the murder of a then-unidentified victim named "Orange Socks," but George W. Bush, when he was governor of Texas, commuted Lucas's sentence because the facts of the case lacked certainty. Near the end of his life, the murderer recanted his confessions, insisting he had only killed his mother. Still, investigators never reopened many of these cases. Ken Anderson, the district attorney who prosecuted Lucas, believes that the murderer probably killed between three to a dozen people. In 2001, Lucas died from heart failure, taking to the grave his true kill count.

A Quick Reminder of What Happens to Madeleine in Spectre - and Why It's Important

What happened to Madeleine Swann? That's one of the biggest questions raised by the No Time to Die trailer, which places Léa Seydoux's brilliant psychiatrist - and her relationship with James Bond - at the center of the conflict. Before we dive into theorizing about her role in the new movie, let's recap what we saw of her in the last movie, 2015's Spectre.

Spectre gives us some incredibly important information about Madeleine, going all the way back to her childhood. Her father, "Mr. White," was a longterm SPECTRE operative, working for the evil mastermind Blofeld for many years. As an adult, Madeleine is found by Bond after her father's death and helps him on his mission to find and stop Blofeld. Along the way, the duo are abducted by SPECTRE operatives, and Madeleine is apparently taken prisoner and hidden away as a trap to try to force Bond to get trapped in a building rigged to explode. Fortunately for them both, Bond is able to find her in time and they escape, then head off into the sunset after sparking a romantic relationship.

On the surface, Madeleine's arc in Spectre isn't that different from a usual nonevil "Bond girl," with her murky past but good heart and ability to kick butt on her own. A few details, however, seem to suggest that what we saw in that movie isn't the end of the story, and since she's back in No Time to Die under mysterious circumstances and with some knowledge of the new villain, that seems more and more likely. The new trailer makes it appear that, for some reason, Madeleine and Bond's relationship didn't work out and that, by the time we pick back up with the new movie, they've split up because of some secret she's been keeping. Could it be that her ties to SPECTRE aren't just about her father?

Madeleine has two things that seem too important to overlook: experience handling weapons (as a child, she shot a man who came after her father) and a position at MI6. The trailer kicks off with Madeleine asking Bond, "Why would I betray you?," to which he bitterly replies, "We all have our secrets - we just didn't get to yours yet." An exchange like that certainly seems to hint at something bigger unfolding with Madeleine, but we won't find out for sure until No Time to Die hits theaters on April 8, 2020.

Whether you suffer from seasonal depression or the year-round variety (whoop whoop, where my people at?!), sometimes the best thing to do is close your eyes, breathe, and lean into the sad b*tch energy. After all, it's important to feel your feelings - and forcing yourself to "cheer up" or "snap out of it" can often be counterproductive. Personally, music is my life blood. And when things get heavy and depression and anxiety start whispering lies in my ear, listening to a good melancholy song is all I can do.

So with a little help from my friends and POPSUGAR colleagues, I've put together an extensive (though highly curated) list of the best songs to be sad to. It should last you well through the dark, gray Winter months, and hopefully help you work through your feelings during any especially tough times. Yes, at some point you will need to pick your head up, put your shoulders back, go out into the world, and fake it 'til you make it - but there's nothing wrong with throwing yourself a little pity party and processing your emotions at your own pace (and to a killer soundtrack that spans genres and generations).

Scroll through for a sampling of the sad songs featured, then check out our full Spotify playlist at the end.

The Mandalorian: Here's the Exact Time Disney+ Releases New Episodes

We get more impatient every week for new episodes of The Mandalorian, so it's important to know what time new episodes come out if you want to be among the very first to watch each episode. Although Disney+ has adopted the weekly release model, it still releases episodes early in the day like typical streaming services.

Most new episodes of The Mandalorian drop on Disney+ at exactly 3 a.m. Eastern time on Fridays. While this might seem random at first glance, it actually makes a lot of sense. New episodes are supposed to come out on Fridays, and by holding the release until 3 a.m. Eastern time, it means that it will officially be Friday everywhere in the continental United States by the time they're released; it's midnight on the West Coast when the episodes come out.

As has been noted before, Disney+ is experimenting with a different kind of release schedule. Instead of releasing an entire season at once - the binge-watch model pioneered by Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime - Disney+ is going back to basics. One episode gets released each week, on a specific day of the week (in the case of most Disney+ shows, that day is Friday), until the season is over. It's essentially adapting the old-fashioned mode of watching TV to the streaming age. The only difference, of course, is that these episodes drop first thing in the morning, allowing people to watch whenever they want.

The Mandalorian's first season consists of eight episodes. The first episode was available on Disney+'s debut day, Tuesday, Nov. 12, followed by a second episode on Friday, Nov. 15, which moved the show to its usual Friday release date. The season finale is set to start streaming on Friday, Dec. 27. At the moment, there is one more scheduled interruption to the usual release schedule. Episode seven will air on Wednesday, Dec. 18, only five days after episode six, and there will then be a nine-day wait for the season finale on Dec. 27. One can assume that this is to avoid conflicts with the theatrical release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker on Friday, Dec. 20.

15 Quotes From The Office's Christmas Episodes to Use This Holiday Season

Some TV shows just know how to do the holidays right. Though it's been off the air for years now, we'll always treasure The Office's Christmas episodes, especially the ones from when Steve Carell was still on the show. The Dunder Mifflin crew always celebrated with tinsel, vodka (looking at you, Meredith), and plenty of awkward moments. In honor of those classic episodes, here are the quotes you can still use this holiday season!

This Newborn Is Chillin' Like a Villain, and Her Mean Mug Is Absolutely Everything

As a professional photographer, Ohio-based Justine Tuhy has seen a lot of hilarious facial expressions in her career, but nothing tops a recent photo shoot she did with a 2-week-old baby girl named Luna. Justine shared two photos of the newborn - who has clearly already perfected the art of the mean mug - in a now-viral Facebook post. (We can relate to her facial expression particularly on Monday morning!).

"These might just be the best baby facial expressions I have ever captured!" she captioned the pictures. "Mom and Dad both said she came out with this same face! I just love it!" So far, the post has been shared 44,000 times and has already garnered 15,000 reactions since being shared on Dec. 3.

"She was very expressive throughout her session with her silly faces," Justine told POPSUGAR. "This was most definitely one of the funnier newborn sessions I have ever had. But honestly, little Luna gets all the credit for her work she put in with those incredible facial expressions. I'm overjoyed that she has brought so much happiness to so many. I can't wait to see her expression as she grows."

Isn't it amazing how babies seem to develop personalities right off the bat? Too cute!

Disney Channel fans are probably already familiar with Dove Cameron's name. The 23-year-old actress and singer first got her start playing twins on Liv and Maddie and Mal in the Disney Channel original movie Descendants. Since then, she has gone on to have roles on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., in Netflix's Dumplin', and even off-Broadway as Cher in Clueless.

While her name is certainly becoming more recognizable in the industry, what you might not know is that her birth name isn't actually Dove. The actress was born Chloe Celeste Hosterman but decided to legally change it when she got into acting. She explained the heartbreaking backstory on social media, saying that "Dove" was actually a nickname her dad, Philip Hosterman, used to call her.

"My father passed away a few years ago, right around the time I started acting," she explained in an Instagram post in 2014. "So, I decided to change it legally in honor of him, which gives me great joy every day that I was able to do something so lasting and permanent to pay homage to his memory."
