Daenerys Targaryen's White Fur Coat Foreshadowed Her Descent Into Madness All Along

For any Daenerys Targaryen stans still reeling over that controversial Game of Thrones series finale, it looks like the Mother of Dragons' fate was foreshadowed long before Jon Snow showed up with a knife. In an interview with TV Guide, Emmy-winning costume designer Michele Clapton revealed that Daenerys's white fur coat in the season eight premiere was a huge hint at her transformation into the Mad Queen. More than a few Reddit users caught onto the significance of Daenerys's wardrobe while the series was still on air, and we should have known our Khaleesi was going to lose control all along.

"When she arrives and descends on this dragon, she is this sort of angel of mercy."

"Initially it was about the idea that if she's riding a dragon to the North, she should be warm," Clapton said. "And then I decided that actually it's the first time she's performed a completely selfless task - because it's usually for her own gain - and on this occasion, it was actually for her love. So, I loved this idea, as I developed this costume, that it's almost [as if] she sees herself as this savior, this angel. And so when she arrives and descends on this dragon, she is this sort of angel of mercy. I think it just said so much about her mental state at the time, how she saw herself."

Clapton wanted the white fabric of Daenerys's coat to represent purity, while also calling attention to her coldness. It's through the coat that we see Daenerys's parallels to the White Walkers and better understand how she perceives herself as a savior, not just to Jon, but to all of Westeros. See Clapton's full video ahead to hear more about Daenerys' coat and to see original sketches of the symbolic design.

The Key to Taking Care of My Mixed Daughter's Hair? A Really Good Conditioner

When I had my amazing mixed race, multicultural little girl, I had to quickly learn how to take care of her beautiful hair. Her hair texture is very different from my own, which meant I needed to learn new haircare rules. Her big, bouncy curls could easily become full of knots after a night's sleep, so my main job was figuring out how to maintain them, keep the knots at minimum, and come up with cute styles for days we didn't have time to condition and comb them out.

It was a learning curve, but I was amazed at the amount of unsolicited advice I would get while out and about with my little girl. Other mothers of mixed children who had similar hair or who had experience with her texture of hair would suggest all sorts of things: coconut oil, conditioners, sprays, gels. But, I quickly learned that there are a wide range of differences in mixed children's hair. Some might have perfectly straight hair, while others might have tight little curls - and both types need different love. My daughter has tight, soft curls around her face and the top of her head, and hair that's a bit drier and prone to knots in the back.

Even when their suggestions and comments don't apply, I sometimes get a bit flustered when someone feels the need to talk to me about my daughter's hair. It's like any other time someone tries to give you unsolicited parenting advice - it makes me self-conscious and sometimes ashamed. I worry that people think I don't understand that her hair is different than mine, or think that I've just not done a good job. As any parent knows, there are days when everything goes wrong, so we've just rushed out of the house. On days like that, her hair might be looking dry and just out of sorts (aka a bad hair day), and the comments on those days always cut especially deep. I feel as if that stranger is saying that I can't take care of my mixed girl and how she looks. Most of the time, I know these people don't mean for me to feel this way, and that I'm just being sensitive. But I want to be seen for knowing her and understanding how she is different from me - and for recognizing the special care she needs for her hair, skin, and body.

Related: She's Beautiful, Is She Yours?

And over the years, I've heard it all. I've been told to put relaxer in her hair to make her curls not so "big." I've been told to comb it everyday with leave-in conditioner and a brush. I've been told to use all different types of combs. But through our four years of trial, error, advice, and feedback, I've learned that what works best for my daughter's hair type is very simple: condition, condition, and condition some more, then finger-comb.

Ideally, I would condition my daughter's hair daily and finger comb it while wet and with the conditioner in her hair. But spending 20 minutes on her hair in the tub is not her favorite thing to do, so I do this process every few days. In order to work the conditioner in, I have to really soak her hair, which can take a while. Once her hair is fully wet, I work through a conditioner, usually either one for dry hair or one for hair repair, and one without unneeded chemicals and fragrance. The real key for us is to not rinse the conditioner out, even though it's not formulated as a leave-in conditioner. I find this best keeps her hair soft and her curls bouncy. While she's in the tub with the conditioner soaking, I finger-comb through her knots and curls. This can take a while, depending on how many days it's been since we last washed her hair, if she's been playing outside (wind, dirt, and leaves are not kind!), or had her hair up. But always finger combing! That is the trick that works best. If I use any other type of brush or comb, it breaks up her curls and makes her hair a bit drier and frizzier. So while finger combing doesn't always get all of the knots out, it works best for her curl pattern for now.

While I'd prefer to do bath time before bed, if she falls asleep with a wet head full of curls, she'll wake up and the work we did is lost. So I make a point to only wash her hair in the afternoon or morning. And by washed I mean conditioned - I rarely use shampoo with her. I only break it out when we've had a particularly dirty day (an afternoon spent rolling down hills comes to mind).

It's taken some time but I think I've finally figured out how to help treat her curls so they really shine. However, I'm still learning in many other areas: like how to avoid knots at bedtime. I've tried velvet caps, silk scarfs, and putting her hair in braids, but they haven't worked well for us yet. So, if anyone out there has a little advice, send it our way! For now though, we'll continue our little routine and keep learning - hopefully showing my daughter just how beautiful and special her big, bouncy curls are!

The Heartwarming Reason Dove Cameron Changed Her Name When She Started Acting

Image Source: Getty / Jason LaVeris

Disney Channel fans are probably already familiar with Dove Cameron's name. The 23-year-old actress and singer first got her start playing twins on Liv and Maddie and Mal in the Disney Channel original movie Descendants. Since then, she has gone on to have roles on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., in Netflix's Dumplin', and even off-Broadway as Cher in Clueless.

While her name is certainly becoming more recognizable in the industry, what you might not know is that her birth name isn't actually Dove. The actress was born Chloe Celeste Hosterman but decided to legally change it when she got into acting. She explained the heartbreaking backstory on social media, saying that "Dove" was actually a nickname her dad, Philip Hosterman, used to call her.

"My father passed away a few years ago, right around the time I started acting," she explained in an Instagram post in 2014. "So, I decided to change it legally in honor of him, which gives me great joy every day that I was able to do something so lasting and permanent to pay homage to his memory."

Good Trouble's Cierra Ramirez Is Ready For Mariana to Change the World, One App at a Time

Living with siblings can be a pain, but Good Trouble's Mariana and Callie Adams-Foster take rubbing each other the wrong way to a whole new level. Although, if you watched the two grow up on the Freeform family show The Fosters, you know it could be much worse. "At the end of the day, these girls really love and need each other, and I don't think they understand that right now," Good Trouble star Cierra Ramirez told POPSUGAR during a phone call ahead of the spinoff show's return from Summer break. "It'll be interesting to see how that progresses and [how they come to] that realization during the rest of the season."

The last time we see the sisters in the season 2A finale, Callie (Maia Mitchell) tells Mariana (Ramirez) that she's moving out of the Coterie to live with boyfriend Jamie Hunter (Beau Mirchoff). The drastic move could be seen coming from a mile away since the two have been at each other's throats since the season began. But even though we all love a little familial drama, it's nice to see the two on friendlier terms in the two-episode holiday special, which aired on Monday, Dec. 16.

"The special is kind of a standalone that takes place before all the drama went down," Ramirez explained. While the episodes gave fans some insight into where season two will go when it returns on Jan. 15, they mostly blessed us with a joyful meeting between the Adams-Foster family and the residents of the Coterie.

"At the end of the day, these girls love and need each other."

"We've never had a holiday special like this, so to be able to combine the Coterie family and the Fosters family is cool," Ramirez gushed. "We film in Santa Clarita in the Summer, so even though it didn't look like the holidays, it felt like it. It was really special just to have [the Fosters cast] back because it's so different having everyone together in the same room. It's so nice, we feel like we're back at home!"

Sadly, all that goodwill and cheer can only last so long. Ramirez revealed that when we jump back into the regular season, things won't be quite so copasetic within the gang, especially for Mariana. The software engineer's career life has been nothing but dramatic from the start, and it doesn't look like it'll get easier. Season 2B will be a time of transition for everyone, and Mariana's job at Speckulate might be in real danger.

"Things are gonna be shaken up for sure. We saw Mariana announce she was the one to release [the employee salary information exposing the pay gap between men and women], but now people are investigating, and it's put fear in a lot of the employees," Ramirez said. "But Mariana will continue to make as much progress as she can with [the Byte Club] because it means a lot to all the women.

"I think it's inspiring to see someone making a change and not taking no for an answer."

One element of Mariana's journey that has been so inspiring for fans is her decision to become an active force of change in her workplace and her life. Her Activism app, geared toward helping people who are interested in joining social causes, featured a spotlight in season 2A. It's been exciting for Ramirez, who said she would love to explore Mariana becoming more engaged in activism along with her housemate, Malika Williams (Zuri Adele).

"I think it's so inspiring to see someone smart making a change and not taking no for an answer," she shared. "I hope that she has plans to take the app above and beyond. It would be great to have her talk more about battered women and the foster system and have her give a voice to a lot of communities and issues."

Do we get a vote in this? Because we absolutely would love to see it!

Paris Hilton, Self-Described "Juicy Girl For Life," Reflects on the 2000s Tracksuit

"When people think back on 2000s fashion, the first thing they're gonna think about is Juicy Couture," Paris Hilton recently told Vogue. (We'd like to add that the second thing people will likely think of is Paris herself.) In a video interview that seems practically plucked out of Sofia Coppola's mind, the socialite reflected on Juicy Couture tracksuits and how they coincided with her own rise in fame.

When Juicy Couture founders Pamela Skaist-Levy and Gela Nash-Taylor introduced the brand's tracksuit in 2001, fashion was being dominated by distinctive logos, embellishments, and a general air of excess. "I feel like everybody just had fun with their fashion choices. I think it was just all about being super extra," Paris said. "Before there was Juicy, I think tracksuits were just very sporty and athletic. They were the first ones to actually make a tracksuit cool."

Just before she began filming A Simple Life in 2003, Paris was introduced to the tracksuit through publicist Lara Shriftman. "As soon as I put on my first Juicy tracksuit, I was obsessed," she said. "I just fell in love with the brand, and it basically became my uniform."

Needless to say, the show made Paris and Nicole Richie household names - along with Juicy Couture, which they wore plenty of on the show. "When we shot the show, I had no idea how huge it would be. That just took me to another level where I literally could not leave my house without being mobbed every single day," Paris said.

"I'm a Juicy girl for life."

Nearly a decade later, Paris still wears Juicy Couture tracksuits. In fact, she has an entire closet dedicated to the brand: "I've never stopped wearing it, and I never will, because I'm a Juicy girl for life." Though Paris can take partial credit for the trend's former ubiquity, her famous catchphrase, she cannot. "'That's hot' is something that my sister actually always used to say - but I trademarked it and I own it," she said. "Sorry, Nicky."

An Anti-Diet Dietitian Shares Advice on How to Stop Making Weight Loss Your Life's Goal

While talking to a friend who's a registered dietitian, she shared how much she hates this time of year: resolution time. So many of her female clients come to her with the sole goal of wanting to lose weight. What if we could encourage women to have a new resolution: to stop trying to lose weight and to focus on being healthy and happy?

I'd love to be able to encourage women to give up the "I want to lose weight" resolution. How can someone not respond to the pressure to lose weight, and instead give up dieting after being stuck in the cycle for most of their life? Christy Harrison, MPH, RD, CDN, an anti-diet registered dietitian nutritionist, certified intuitive eating counselor, and host of the Food Psych Podcast, shared her advice.

"It's totally understandable to have the desire to lose weight in this culture, especially for higher-weight people who are constantly bombarded with messages that their bodies are wrong and need shrinking," Christy said. Giving up the pursuit of weight loss is challenging, and even harder the more weight stigma you've experienced in your life and the longer you've been dieting. If you've been stuck in the cycle for decades, it's incredibly difficult to move away from the dieting mentality, but it's also freeing. "I've talked with countless people who've been able to do it, including those in large bodies, and truly feel they've gotten their lives back."

Be Honest: Has Dieting Worked For You in the Past?

"I think the way to get started on the anti-diet path when you've been dieting for so long is to have a real talk with yourself about whether dieting has actually 'worked' for you long-term, or whether you've just been cycling on and off diets (not to mention weight cycling) for all those years," Christy said.

She added that if you're one of those rare weight-loss "success stories" who's somehow managed to lose significant weight and keep it off through intentional means for more than five years, what have you had to give up in order to maintain that weight loss? What's been the effect on your mental health, your relationships, your life? What about your relationship with food and your body? Have you started obsessing about food, binge eating, or using other disordered behaviors?

And have you had any unexplained physical health issues crop up in the wake of your weight loss such as hair loss, chronic fatigue, osteopenia (weak bones) or osteoporosis, missing periods, or digestive problems?

Explore the Anti-Diet Approach

If you've thought through these questions and come to the realization that diets have never worked for you (or that they've robbed you of your well-being in various ways), then you're in a good place to start exploring the anti-diet approach. Christy said, "It can be helpful to start by thinking of it as an experiment." She suggested taking the next few months to experiment with giving up dieting and making peace with food. Of course, you can always go back to dieting, since diet culture isn't going anywhere.

"But you've dieted for years and it's never brought you the peace and well-being you were looking for, so why not try something totally different for a while?" she noted.

Don't Do It Alone

For some people, the anti-diet experiment can bring up a lot of anxiety and internalized weight stigma, and working with a therapist who's well-versed in intuitive eating and Health at Every Size (HAES) can be essential for helping you process those feelings. If you need help finding someone, here's a list of providers Christy recommends.

Wait, Did You Realize Billie Eilish Has an Even Cooler Name Than We Thought?

Billie Eilish, whose full name is amazingly Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O'Connell, has steadily been building a following for her music career since 2016, when her debut single "Ocean Eyes" was released on SoundCloud and subsequently got so much attention that major record companies came calling. But we need to back up a little talk more about that name!

Talking to the BBC in 2017, Eilish explained the family connections (and one hilarious family squabble) behind her full, lengthy name.

"[Eilish] is my middle name. So I'm Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O'Connell. Pretty weird, right? Pirate was going to be my middle name, but then my uncle had a problem with it because pirates are bad. Then Baird is my mother's name."

So, to recap: Billie uses her mother's maiden name as an extra middle name. On top of that, she's got one of the coolest middle names ever! And for her stage name, she uses her middle name, Eilish (pronounced "eye-lish"), which she wouldn't even have had as a name if her uncle hadn't objected to "pirate" being her "main" middle name!

As her name suggests, Eilish is of Irish and Scottish descent, and you can see that in the names of her family, too: her mother is Maggie Baird, her father is Patrick O'Connell, and her brother is Finneas O'Connell. And although "Eilish" might sound like an unusual name to American ears, it's actually just the Gaelic version of a very common English name: Elizabeth. Eilish's unique name is just one of many unique things about her, and it's also superspecial. Rather than being a name that's unusual just because it's trendy, every part of her name has some particular meaning related to her family, which makes it truly unique!

The Cold-Weather Layering Secret 1 Fashion Editor Swears By

When I got my first job as a fashion market assistant at a magazine in New York City, I discovered bodysuits-and I have never looked back. In fact, rarely does a day go by that my outfit doesn't include one in some way, shape, or form. During the cold winter months, though, I love them even more than ever, counting them as the one secret cold-weather wardrobe essential that I will never ever let go.

First things first, the ability of a bodysuit to make me look pulled-together without my top ever untucking, bunching, or showing a panty-line is undeniably priceless. Especially back in my assistant days, hauling the heaviest of couture pieces from rack to rack, on my knees to merchandise shoes, and standing on tip-toes in order to reach the top-most shelves in the fashion closet, there was never more of a need for an outfit that didn't budge an inch. Bodysuits it was. Since then, though, I still appreciate the stay-put nature of a bodysuit with everything from slouchy denim to elegant midi skirts alike.

What's more, when I want to layer up for the frigid weather that seems to have dropped on top of the East coast of the country with fervor, a bodysuit will keep me warmer than ever, with little extra bulk. Whether I'm looking for a turtleneck to peek out from underneath a chunky knit, or simply an extra tank to add a little insulation to my slimmer top or sweater outfit of the day, my ode to the wardrobe essential is a long one.

Ahead, find my favorites-from colorful styles you're going to want to show off to classic black styles that are the perfect addition to every single look in your closet, you're going to want them all.
