Yara Shahidi Is "That Somebody" in This Badass Tommy Hilfiger Look Inspired by Aaliyah
Yara Shahidi paid tribute to Aaliyah's iconic style in preparation for the upcoming Spring finale of Grown-ish, and this look is taking me on a journey to the past. "No Timbs were hurt in the making of this episode," Yara captioned her Instagram photos sharing a sneak peek at her outfit, which featured a pair of Tommy Hilfiger boxers ($24), a brown leather Tommy Hilfiger belt ($46), and a customized Tommy Hilfiger logo bandeau top. Yara, who plays Zoey Johnson on Grown-ish, paired her character's look with loose bangle bracelets, a matching silver necklace, a pair of Timberlands, and maroon lipstick.
While Yara's outfit is slightly different than the one Aaliyah wore in her iconic 2001 Tommy Hilfiger commercial, I definitely had to do a double take when I saw this on my dashboard. She even got the poses right! Keep scrolling to see Yara work her Aaliyah look in the promo for the upcoming episode of Grown-ish and to take some style inspiration from some of Aaliyah's most popular looks.

This Nighttime Habit Could Be Making Your Spring Allergy Symptoms Worse
Spring allergy season can arrive as early as late February, depending on where you live - and with it, the itching, sneezing, sniffling symptoms you probably know all too well. If you find that you feel especially restless at night, you're not alone.
In fact, it's quite common to feel worse late at night if you spend a lot of time outside during the day. "This is because pollen sticks to you from outside," David Erstein, MD, a board-certified allergist and immunologist in New York City, told POPSUGAR. Meaning, you should really change clothes and shower before falling into bed, no matter how exhausted you feel.
This is true even if you typically only spend evenings outside - because while pollen counts are generally higher in the morning, the warmer temperatures push pollen up into the air during the day, leaving them to fall back down once the temperatures cool, explained Allan Rosenbaum, MD, a board-certified otolaryngologist at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, TN.
Then there's the issue of indoor allergens, including dust mites and pet dander - both of which can wreak havoc when you're at home. "No matter how much you try, you'll never be able to get rid of those dust mites completely, and pet [dander] removal is not usually an option, so reduction strategies help immensely," Dr. Erstein said. He suggests trying to avoid carpet in your bedroom, using non-feathered pillows, and changing your sheets weekly, cleaning them with hot water and high heat. "Dust mite covers for the mattress and pillow cases may also help, and air purifiers with HEPA filters can reduce the pet dander suspended in the air," he added.
Still, it's best to get ahead of your symptoms by working with an allergist to develop the best treatment plan. "Thankfully, there is more help available to sufferers than what you can get over the counter at your local pharmacy," Dr. Erstein said. "Allergists can prescribe other helpful medications if symptoms warrant and can provide specific allergy immunotherapy to help build up your tolerance to the pollens you are allergic to, if necessary."
It's Officially Spring - Before You Go For a Run Outside, Take These Allergists' Advice
If you live in a part of the country that experiences heavy snow and frigid Winter temperatures, you've probably been counting down the days until Spring would arrive in all its flowery glory. But the second you step outside for a run, you're met with another reality. With those sunny days come seasonal allergies - symptoms that are only made worse when you're huffing and puffing through a thick haze of pollen.
Fortunately, there are ways to work around it. "Pollen counts are typically higher in the morning, from 5 to 10 a.m., so waiting until the afternoon and evening may be more helpful to reduce exposure," David Erstein, MD, a board-certified allergist and immunologist in New York City, told POPSUGAR. You can also check the pollen count in your area with a quick google search and limit your time outside on days when allergens are most severe.
"It's also helpful to avoid running on windy days as the pollens tend to be whisked around and can affect a sufferer more," Dr. Erstein said. "You may find more relief running after a good rain shower which helps to wash away the pollens suspended in the air."
If antihistamines help to relieve your symptoms, you can also try taking one up to an hour before your run to alleviate any discomfort you'd feel during your workout, Lakiea Wright, MD, a board-certified physician in internal medicine and allergy and immunology at Brigham and Women's Hospital and the medical director at Thermo Fisher Scientific in Boston, told POPSUGAR.
Running with eyewear such as sunglasses can also help prevent itchy, watery eyes, and if you're up for it, a mask or bandana over your nose and mouth can limit the amount of pollen that makes its way into your respiratory passages.
Finally, be sure to change out of your workout clothes and shower as soon as you get home from a run. Pollen sticks to you, only prolonging your exposure to allergens, Dr. Erstein explained - just one reason allergy symptoms tend to worsen at night.

We Asked a Sleep Doctor How to Fall Asleep Faster, and His Solution Made Us Feel Blessed
Drifting off to sleep can be super hard some nights, but what if we told you that getting a bite to eat could help you fall asleep faster? It's true, as long as you choose an evening snack that's rich in melatonin.
"Melatonin is the chemical that makes us sleepy at night. Light - either from the sun or your laptop - suppresses melatonin," W. Christopher Winter, MD, author of The Sleep Solution: Why Your Sleep Is Broke and How to Fix It, told POPSUGAR. That means you should power down your devices in the evening, but supplementing with melatonin can also help improve sleep and combat insomnia. That said, taking it in the over-the-counter form you find in pharmacies may not be safe, particularly over the long-term. Instead, try one of these three melatonin-packed snacks:
- Walnuts: "In addition to having high levels of tryptophan (an amino acid that aids in melatonin production), walnuts also have a unique form of melatonin in high levels," Dr. Winter said.
- Tart cherries: "Tart cherries have been shown to produce a surge in melatonin that can be helpful with sleep initiation," Dr. Winter explained. A 2017 pilot study found that those who drank one cup of tart cherry juice twice a day for two weeks increased sleep time by 84 minutes compared to those in the placebo group.
- Kiwis: The fuzzy fruit can seriously help you fall asleep. In a small study, people who ate two kiwis an hour before bed for four weeks decreased the amount of time it took for them to fall asleep by 35 percent.
6 Lifestyle Changes That’ll Boost Your Brain Power, According to a Neurologist
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is like wearing a helmet throughout life: it's the first line of defense when protecting your brain.
While there is "no silver bullet for promoting brain power," setting good social, physical, and nutritional habits is the key to promoting cognitive wellness, says Dr. Jennie Valles, MD, a neurologist in Burke Rehabilitation Hospital's brain injury program.
Yes, "mentally engaging" activities like reading or playing video games that include motion capture or virtual reality can help stimulate the brain, but Dr. Valles credits big-picture lifestyle choices - like eating right and perpetuating a full social calendar - to long-term prosperity.
So, instead of flipping through the app store for brain games, try evaluating your behavioral patterns first. You can start by prioritizing Dr. Valles's tips for optimizing brain power.
Spend Time With Loved Ones
Call up your friends and establish a weekly game night or solidify your Taco Tuesday plans.
According to Dr. Valles, spending quality time with friends and family can do wonders for your brain cognition.
In fact, Healthybrains.org reports that individuals with more social interaction experience the slowest rate of memory decline, due to having a support system that helps to reduce stress, combat depression, and enhances intellectual stimulation.
Try Out the Mediterranean Diet
Here's to more lean proteins, low-starch vegetables, and fruits!
The Mediterranean diet is a great option for anyone looking to boost their cognitive health, Dr. Valles says. Eating this way is believed to reduce inflammation, protect against cell damage, lower blood pressure, and improve cholesterol levels, all of which promote a healthy brain, reports Brain&life.org.
If the Mediterranean route isn't your vibe, remember that a well-balanced and calorie-controlled diet, in general, can play a protective role in overall brain health, Dr. Valles admits.
She even pointed out that malnutrition, low BMI, and insulin resistance (like type two diabetes mellitus, for example) have all been linked to higher rates of dementia and brain function.
Talk to Your Doctor About Vitamins and Supplements
If you're maintaining a well-balanced diet, you're on the right track to managing your cognitive health - keep it up.
But, if your healthcare provider suggests taking supplements due to nutritional deficiencies, it would benefit your cognitive health greatly to listen, Dr. Valles explains.
Make sure you're abiding by a doctor's orders closely - taking too many supplements and vitamins could potentially result in toxicity if one is not careful.
Recharge With Meditation
While Dr. Valles admits that "the jury is still out" on whether or not meditation affects cognitive decline, she suggests the possibility of improved brain function due to the practice.
One study divulges into this idea further, stating that the influence of meditation on cognitive functions implies a positive effect, especially on attention, memory, verbal fluency, and cognitive flexibility.
Try defaulting to meditation when your brain is feeling burnt out - science may not 100 percent back this claim, but recharging with the practice won't do any harm, either.
Get Plenty of Sleep
We all know how hard it is to function after a poor night's sleep, but what are the long-term effects?
"Many studies have shown a relationship between sleep disturbances (like fragmented sleep and disordered breathing, for example) and cognitive decline and dementia," Dr. Valles explains.
Since sleep is so important for memory consolidation, she suggests seeking help from a sleep specialist for anyone who often feels unrested.
Sweat It Out
If you're not already working out two to three times a week for at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise, your long-term cognitive health is a great reason to start.
Dr. Valles stressed the imperative relationship between exercise and the proteins in the body that promote the preservation and the growth of brain cells.
Studies have also shown that exercising slows the shrinking of your hippocampus, which is responsible for memory and cognition. Sounds like a win-win to us.

This Simple Breathing Trick Helps Me Fall Back Asleep Instantly, Transforming My Mornings
Like many people, I went through a phase in my life of waking up in the middle of the night and being unable to fall back to sleep. I'd stare at the clock, watching the minutes tick by relentlessly, feeling more and more stressed about how tired and unproductive I'd be the next morning.
When I say "many people," that isn't hyperbole: in one study, more than a third of participants reported waking up during the night at least three times a week, and of those, 43 percent struggled to doze back off. There are a number of reasons you might wake up during the night - it could be that your room is too hot or noisy, or that you're hungry or too full. I tried everything from sleep apps to white noise to powering down my devices an hour before bed, but no matter how desperately I tried to solve the problem, it still happened.
Finally, I came across a breathing trick that promised to put me back to sleep in roughly a minute by easing stress and relaxing the nervous system. It's called the 4-7-8 method, and it worked wonders. The next time you're struggling to fall back asleep, try it for yourself, and enjoy how well-rested you feel the next morning. Here's how:
- Place your tongue just behind your front teeth. Keep it there throughout the exercise.
- Exhale through your mouth, making a whooshing noise.
- Close your mouth, and inhale quietly through your nose while you count to four in your head.
- Hold your breath for a count of seven.
- Exhale through your mouth, making a whooshing noise to a count of eight.
- Repeat three more times for a total of four cycles.
Bindi Irwin Shares an Adorable Home Video With Late Father Steve, and Crikey, It’s Too Cute

In the brief clip, a cute Bindi bops her dad on the nose with her chocolate ice cream cone. Steve takes it all in stride, laughing as his daughter giggles, but then snatches the cone and turns it on Bindi yelling "I'll get ya!," and then tries to smear the cone on his his wife Terri's face, too. Bindi captioned the Instagram post with "These memories make me smile💛🍦", and it's certainly made us smile this morning as well. See the full clip above.
These Spring Nail Polish Trends Actually Are, Um, "Groundbreaking"
Five years ago, not even the most revered beauty editor could have anticipated the meteoric rise of chipped nail polish or french manicures in 2020, and yet - it's that element of the unexpected that makes a trip to the salon feel more like a Bear Grylls adventure by the day. This Spring, the coolest nail color trends are no exception.
"Instead of the usual predictable pastel shades, I expect to see a variety of full-coverage neutrals," said Jin Soon Choi, NYC-based manicurist and founder of her eponymous brand. 'Neutral' also applies to color; in fact, the common denominator across the board, adds Olive & June founder Sarah Tuttle, is sourced straight from nature: "Think garden party hues like a sunny yellow, pinky lavender, and sage green. Instead of last Spring's neons and nudes, this season you'll also see lots of sheers."
You don't need access to the Discovery channel to know what that looks like; ahead, Choi and Tuttle are breaking down the four (Mother Nature-approved, probably) nail polish colors you'll want to add to cart this Spring.

Sure, you can try a new eyeliner technique or lipstick shade, but the best way to shed the old and celebrate the new is with a fresh hairstyle. Whether you're after a subtle tweak or bold transformation, there are plenty of Spring hair color trends to choose from this year.
"Things are going to be a lot more fun for hair this Spring," colorist and Matrix brand ambassador George Papanikolas said. "There will be brighter blonds, vivid colors, and dimensional brunettes. The mood in Spring is always lighter, brighter, and more fun."
Ahead, Papanikolas and Chicago-based colorist Karissa Schaudt shared their biggest hair color trend predictions for Spring 2020 - you may want to book your salon appointment now.

Time to Learn How to Make Italian Beef! Love Is Blind's Mark Is Ready to Date Again
The Love Is Blind finale ended with a not-too-surprising breakup between Mark and Jessica. After being dumped by Jessica, is Mark still single now? Mark's current relationship status is unclear, but he's handled the breakup and its aftermath with admirable grace (and workout pics).
"This was the best thing that ever happened to me," he told the New York Post. "Without Jess, there would not be a Mark of today. I really am thankful for Jess and everything that we went through, because she challenged me in a lot of different ways. The age gap is a real thing, and things that I didn't know that I needed to be ready for - she prepared me for that mentally. I'm so thankful for that. So I wouldn't do anything different. It taught me so many values in terms of how I want to be, in a relationship."
The one thing we do know? He and Jessica are definitely not in touch at all. "We haven't talked since the wedding day," Mark told the Post. "I reached out at some point - nothing bad, just to say, like, 'Hey, I hope everything's going well, I hope everything's doing all right.' I didn't hear back. But to me, it's just sending love out there. Like, 'Hey, I hope you're doing OK.' And that's that."
For the moment, it looks like Mark is single, although we'll definitely know more once the Love Is Blind reunion airs on March 5 and reveals the aftermath of the show (which filmed way back in 2018). For now, we're going over every possible clue on social media to see if we can suss out any information - keep reading for our thoughts!

Playing Mo on Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist Helped Alex Newell "Fall in Love With [Himself] More"
After wowing audiences with his incredible voice on Glee, Alex Newell is returning to musical television once again with NBC's new series Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist. The 27-year-old, who identifies as a gender nonconforming gay man, first rose to fame with his role as Wade "Unique" Adams on Glee back in 2012 and has developed quite the résumé ever since, including starring in Broadway's Once on This Island musical and releasing his debut EP Power. Now, after all of his success as an artist, Newell is returning to his TV roots.
The show centers around a woman named Zoey (Jane Levy) who suddenly develops the ability to hear people's inner thoughts through popular songs. Newell plays the title character's genderfluid neighbor and eventual friend Mo. While most of the first season has portrayed Mo as Zoey's witty and fun sidekick, an upcoming episode will show Mo in a whole new light. The episode, which airs on March 1, showcases how Mo struggles with the intersection of his faith and sexuality, which is something that hits close to home for Newell.
"It is my story completely," Newell told POPSUGAR. "Not word for word, but it is quite literally something that I went through at my church." In fact, Newell chatted with the show's writers ahead of time about how to handle the story. "It's a lot of people's stories it all encompasses, but it was really one of those things where [show creator Austin Winsberg] asked me, 'You have such a confidence, where are any of the flaws? And I'm always just like, 'Well, there are many flaws. It's just they're all personal. I know who I am. Why try to hide that?'"
"This is who I am, and you can take it or leave it if you want."
Newell added that the episode's ending scene was especially emotional to act out. "[It was] wonderful to get to the end of that entire episode [with] a cathartic moment of, 'This is who I am, and you can take it or leave it if you want.'" Through this episode and Mo's character, Newell hopes to inspire fans, especially within the LGBTQ+ community, to "start a conversation." "We need to start having conversations about those that are so strong and the confidence that they exude, what's really going on with them," he said. "Especially in our own community. We have so many things already working against us that in our own communities [we need to] lift each other up."
While Newell's personal story has influenced his onscreen story arc, playing Mo has also inspired him in his everyday life. "Playing something that is so reflective of who you are, you know new things about yourself that you really didn't understand," he said. "I find myself noticing the little tics that I do that Mo does. I really see the Southern side of me come out a lot. Mo is a direct carbon copy of my mom and all of my aunts and everyone that I've ever encountered, a lot of female presences. I fall in love with myself more and more as I play Mo."
"I fall in love with myself more and more as I play Mo."
Overall, Newell is just really appreciative of playing a multidimensional character like Mo on TV. "I get to express for those that don't have the voice to express," he said. "I've always done that. Any body of work that I've done on television, I like to do this. I like to be myself on television because there's somebody that is a direct reflection of me out there that needs to have their story told."
