Olympic-Bound Cyclist Chloe Dygert Breaks Her Own World Record, Twice - on the Same Day
Less than five months out from the Summer Olympics, Chloe Dygert is busy grabbing record after record on cycling's biggest stages and cementing her status as the cyclist to beat in Tokyo.
Most recently, the 23-year-old American blew away her previous 3000m individual pursuit world record - twice, in the same day - at the 2020 World Track Cycling Championships, first breezing by it by a full three seconds (3:17.2) in qualifying on Feb. 29, then shaving off another three-tenths of a second in the final later that day (3:16.9). Chloe's previous world record was 3:20, set in 2018; for context, no other cyclist has ever broken 3:22. In this race, she beat her opponent by over six seconds to secure her third individual pursuit world title, after missing 2019 worlds due to concussion. Chloe also helped the US team reclaim their world title in the team pursuit, the discipline in which she holds her only Olympic medal so far, a silver medal from Rio. (Individual pursuit is not an Olympic discipline.)
And that's just on the track. Chloe secured her 2020 Olympic qualification last year in road racing, which is a completely different ballgame: track cycling takes place indoors, in a stadium called a velodrome; road racing is competed in long outdoor courses. In September, Chloe upset a veteran field by a record margin (one minute, 32 seconds) to become the youngest world champion of any gender in road time trial, according to NBC Sports. It was an all-out effort in rainy Yorkshire, England, that left her spent and collapsing at the finish line.
"I live in Washington State so I'm used to riding in the rain," Chloe told the press after that September win. "I really prepared very well for this. We took this year and just worked towards this race." But after taking home world championship gold in track, Chloe flashed some ambition, telling NBC Sports that her goal is to drop her record by another two or three seconds, to 3:15 or 3:16, and eventually break 3:10.
Ahead, you can Chloe's latest record-setting performance, which, FYI, came in the same six-month span as her road race records. Go ahead and get familiar with her name, because we predict you'll be hearing a lot of it in Tokyo this summer.

Billy Porter Will Play a "Genderless" Fairy Godmother in Cinderella: "The Kids Are Ready"
Billy Porter is confidently creating a new kind of Fairy Godmother for Sony's upcoming Cinderella remake. The Pose actor recently sat down with CBS News and revealed his version of the character - renamed "the Fab G" - will be "genderless" and "really powerful."
"Magic has no gender," he said. "We are presenting this character as genderless. That's how I'm playing it." Porter is catering this twist on the traditional fairytale to the younger audience. "This is a classic fairy tale for a new generation. I think that the new generation is really ready," he continued. "The kids are ready. It's the grownups that are slowing stuff down."
The movie is currently filming in England with Camilla Cabello as Cinderella, Idina Menzel as the Wicked Stepmother, Pierce Brosnan and Minnie Driver as the King and Queen, and newcomer Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Robert - oh, and James Corden is producing! It's rumored the film will drop on Feb. 5, 2021, and we can't wait to see "the Fab G" in action.

This Intense CrossFit Workout Will Kick Your Ass and Remind You How Lucky You Are to Be Alive
The other day at my CrossFit gym, we took a break from our regular programming to do a hero workout to honor and celebrate a former member, Ryan Hawks, who died in a tragic ski accident during a free skiing competition in California nine years ago at just 25 years old.
As one of his best friends, Jade Jenny, co-owner and head coach of Champlain Valley CrossFit, named this workout "Hawks," and it's posted at the front of the gym. Ryan was known by his friends and family as incredibly positive and adventurous with a passion for skiing and a love of the mountains. Not long after his death, his 14 core principles for living were found on his computer, which included "Live every day, all day" and "Never stop exploring life."
Before doing this workout, co-owner, level 1 coach of Champlain Valley CrossFit, and CrossFit competitor Dani Jenny reminded us that although this workout would be physically and mentally challenging, that we get to work out. And we should use this workout as an opportunity to think about how grateful we are to be alive and to have this body that allows us to experience life. I never knew Ryan, but I was tearing up before we even started.
There's no need to do all reps of each exercise at once. Dani suggested breaking them up so for example, when you do the deadlifts, do 10 reps at a time, taking a short break in between. That way when you get to the overhead walking lunges, you won't be completely exhausted. This workout will take anywhere from 20 to 45 minutes (it took me 34), depending on the weights you use and how fast you move through the reps. So push yourself as hard as you want, doing it AQAP (as quick as possible). This is your workout.
"Hawks" AQAP Workout
Equipment needed: rower, barbell and plates (or kettlebell and dumbbells), plyometrics box, and a jump rope
Directions: After a five-minute dynamic warmup, complete the below workout AQAP. The workout on the left uses a barbell; feel free to modify the weight amount to suit your strength and abilities. I did 55-pound deadlifts, and since I'm nursing a shoulder injury, I did 35-pound thrusters. If you're not a fan of using a barbell or don't have one, complete the workout in the right column. See the instructions ahead for more details on each exercise.
After the workout, be sure to do a cooldown such as these leg stretches, or grab a foam roller for your legs and butt. Also stretch your calves to prevent soreness from jumping rope.
| Hawks Workout | Hawks Workout (Easier) |
|---|---|
| 1,000 meter row | 1,000 meter row |
| 50 deadlifts (155 pounds or less) | 50 kettlebell deadlifts (35 pounds or less) |
| 50 thrusters (65 pounds or less) | 50 dumbbell thrusters (15 pounds or less) |
| 50 box jumps | 50 box jumps |
| 50 burpees | 50 burpees |
| 100 alternating overhead walking lunges (25-pound plate) | 100 alternating overhead walking lunges (10-pound plate) |
| 100 double-unders (or 200 single-unders) | 200 single-unders |
A New Dating App Blurs Profile Photos, So It's Basically Like Being in a Love Is Blind Pod
Secretly curious to know if the concept behind Love Is Blind could help you find that special someone like it did for Lauren and Cameron and Amber and Barnett? Then you may want to download S'More, aka "Something More." (Unfortunately not related to the gooey, chocolatey campfire treat.)
The dating app launched in January, coincidentally just one month before Love Is Blind took Netflix by storm, and it nixes the usual selfie-swiping notion in favor of blurred profile photos so users can learn more about a match before judging their appearance. So yeah, it's pretty much like the app-based version of meeting someone in a Love Is Blind pod - no shimmering blue wall required.

Here's a quick breakdown of how S'More works, along with some standout features:
- First, you create your own profile, choosing responses for categories about your education, what you're looking for, your musical tastes, and more.
- Each day, you receive five profile recommendations based on your preferences and behavior. You can also use the Discover feature to scope out additional options.
- While checking out someone's profile, you can listen to their favorite song and even hear them answer a question with their real voice, if they chose to do so. You must "Wink" at three criteria to show your interest, which makes their photos to start to unblur. Then you can send them an initial message, and if they reply, their profile will then completely unblur for you.
- Whoever receives your initial message can't just automatically open it - they must first go to your profile and "Wink" back to indicate their mutual interest.
- The more you chat with someone on the app, the more profile features you'll be able to unlock, including video responses, social media pages, and photo galleries.
- The number of match conversations you can have at one time are limited in order to hopefully encourage deeper interactions.
In the two months that S'More has been available in Boston, New York City, and Washington DC, the app already accumulated close to 15,000 users, and CEO Adam Cohen Aslatei thinks that number will undoubtedly continue to grow. "The world has been waiting for an app that is laser-focused on relationships and one that is based on compatibility instead of one that forces you to make decisions based on a headshot - one like is likely outdated, fake, or overly airbrushed!" he told POPSUGAR via email. "Given the popularity of [Love Is Blind], we think millions of people will be interested in experiencing a similar journey themselves on S'More, minus the required engagement."
Want to try S'More for yourself? After already rolling out in the three aforementioned cities, it will soon be available in San Francisco, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia, too. You can download it from Apple's app store and get on the waitlist in the meantime. Ahead, take a closer look at S'More's interface to see what the hype is all about.
I Curl My Hair Every Day, but This Air Dry Foam May Convince Me to Skip Styling For Good
I'll admit it - I'm not very adventurous when it comes to my hair. Yes, there was once a time (read: my 16-year-old emo phase) when I would dye my bob haircut black or platinum or fire-engine red on a whim; however, since my mid-20s or so, my cut, color, and style have pretty much been the same. There have been different levels of blond-ness, but the middle part and loose beach waves have remained consistent (shout-out to the geniuses at Whiteroom Brooklyn!). I'm definitely one of those people who, once I found a style that works for me, have stuck to it through thick and thin.
That means that almost every morning - except for the days when I'm feeling lazy and throw it in a messy bun - I blow-dry and curl my hair (I like to think I've perfected the art of the imperfect beach wave). But sometimes, I just don't have time to go through the whole styling process, or I know that weather like rain or extreme humidity is going to ruin my masterpiece the second I walk out the door.
Enter: Ouai Air Dry Foam ($28) - the only product that lets me skip styling and let my hair air-dry. I have pretty fine hair, but there's a lot of it, and it tends to get super frizzy when I let it air-dry on its own. Ouai's foam is super light, so it lets my natural texture shine through while making my waves more uniform and less all over the place. Here's how I use it to style my wet hair without using any heat whatsoever.
I Completely Changed My Parenting (and My Kid's Future) With This Under-$25 Product
About two years ago, my husband and I made the decision to completely change our lifestyle. Tired of living paycheck to paycheck, we swore off credit cards, created a detailed budget, and started really tracking our money and living within our means. Making such life-altering changes came with its own set of challenges, but over time we got the hang of it and are now working toward a life of total financial independence. We wanted to teach our children to live the same way, so we purchased financial expert Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace Junior Kit ($22). I knew that it would help me teach my children about money basics, but I didn't know that it would completely change how I parent.
The kit, which was created for children ages 3 to 12, comes with a parent guide, kid's activity book, magnetic chore chart, reward chart, and designated give, save, and spend envelopes. It's remarkably simple: Your children are given a chart with age-appropriate chores to complete each day. For each chore they complete, they earn a "commission." We use the kit for our almost-6-year-old (our twins are only 2 years old, so don't quite understand the concept of earning money yet), and pay her anywhere from $0.05 to $0.10 per chore. Every Saturday morning, we add it all up and pay her what she's earned, which is typically around $3. Then, we divide the money among the kit's three envelopes. She puts some in her giving envelope, and at the end of the year, she can use that money to select and purchase a toy for a child in need. The rest of the money is split between her saving and spending envelopes. Right now, she is choosing to save up spending money for our next trip to Disney. Getting my five-year-old to do her chores every day doesn't always come without some resistance, but every Saturday morning, she beams with pride over how much money she is earning and saving.
But here's what's been the real game changer: I get to do fewer chores. Raising three kids who are all under age 5 is chaotic to say the least. And because it seemed easier and faster to do everything myself, I used to waste so much time finding something to keep the kids out of my hair while I cooked, cleaned, did laundry, or whatever other chores needed to be done throughout the day. Well, it turns out, doing it all myself isn't actually that much easier. Mornings were a nightmare, and I felt like I was hanging on by a thread by the time I got my oldest daughter off to school. When dinner rolled around, I was counting the minutes until bedtime. So even though we ordered the kit optimistically, I had no idea where I was going to find the time to use it - let alone find the patience to fork over any control or household duties to my oldest. But I am so glad that I took the time to get her started. In addition to helping me teach my children about money in a way that they can understand, it has also helped me let go of some of my control issues and just be a more pleasant parent in general.
Bringing Financial Peace Jr. has inspired me to find new ways to include my children in the running of our home. Now, instead distracting my kids while I clean, I let them help. I even get my 2-year-old twins in on it. They don't earn money yet, but they clearly enjoy helping Mommy and work hard at whatever tasks I give them. Handing me their plastic dishes from the dishwasher, moving clothes from the washing machine to the dryer, and emptying bags after a trip to the grocery store are some of the simple and mess-free "chores" that they enjoy doing under my supervision. Giving my older daughter ownership of her morning (getting herself dressed, making her bed, and brushing her teeth) and after school (emptying her backpack and putting away her shoes and coat) routines has made our days so much easier. Now, instead of barking orders and running around every morning stressing about not getting out the door on time, I can actually take the time to let her choose a hair style on Pinterest and do my best to execute it.
Our shopping trips have also become easier. Before we started using this kit, walking into a store caused me to brace myself for the inevitable fights. A stroll past the toy aisle turned my daughter into Verruca Salt, which was equal parts frustrating and humiliating. Complete avoidance of the toy aisle resulted in nonstop pleading and crying to go to said toy aisle, which made me want to scream. I was unfair; I was the mean mom with no patience. But that's also changed.
Now, we always visit the toy aisle. When my daughter sees something she wants, there are no tantrums that the entire store gets to enjoy. Instead, we look at how much it costs, and talk about how long it will take to save up for it. She asks what she can do at home to earn bonuses to help her save faster, and, if it's a big-ticket item that she's passionate about, my husband and I have her to save up half of what it costs, and we match the other half.
When things are easier at home or when we're out in public, I'm less stressed. When I'm less stressed, I'm a better mom. I'm not short with my kids or counting down the minutes until they go to sleep, or waiting for my husband to get home so that I can get out of the house. Plus, I love the lessons that my kids are learning, or will learn, from Financial Peace Jr. Watching my daughter develop a generous heart fills me with an immeasurable amount of joy. As I see her think about and make financial decisions, I realize just how much she's growing up, and I am so incredibly proud of the person she is becoming. Each time I experience that joy or that sense of pride, I am inspired to keep going, and to keep encouraging her. I think it goes without saying that for our family, this was the best $22 we've ever spent.

Kendall Jenner Wants to Write a Love Story About This Baroque Bikini, and We Can't Blame Her
Kendall Jenner probably packed a suitcase full of swimsuits for her latest tropical getaway, but it appears she only really needed one: her baroque print bikini from Sommer Swim. The tiny printed two-piece made its debut in a bunch of photos on her Instagram on Tuesday. "Me and this bikini: a love story," Kendall captioned the gallery. It's easy to fall in love with a piece of clothing, and after a glance at Kendall's swimwear, you can totally see why she's obsessed.
The bikini's colorful halter top can be worn around the neck, but Kendall decided to switch things up and tie it as a bandeaue while she lounged in the sun. Her high-cut brazilian bikini bottoms also feature delicate gold embellishments to give the suit a luxe feel. She tied the whole look together with a wide-brimmed woven hat and the best accessory: fresh watermelon. Keep reading to see her exact bikini and shop similar styles.

Could the Coronavirus Outbreak Put the 2020 Olympics in Jeopardy? It's Possible
As coronavirus continues to spread globally, officials must now consider the possibility that the virus could impact the upcoming Summer Olympics in Tokyo. While Japan's Olympics minister, Seiko Hashimoto, told parliament that the contract calls for the Games to be held within 2020 - which, in theory, could allow for a postponement - the decision to cancel ultimately rests in the hands of the International Olympic Committee, and at least one member believes the Olympics are more likely to be cancelled than postponed.
The IOC's longest-serving member, former Canadian swimmer Dick Pound, told the Associated Press that decision is likely to come later this Spring. "In and around that time [late May], I'd say folks are going to have to ask: 'Is this under sufficient control that we can be confident about going to Tokyo or not?'" he said. From an outsider's perspective, it might seem more logical to move the Games to another location if Tokyo were deemed unsafe, or simply postpone them until the danger has passed, but Pound noted that both of those options are difficult to execute.
"You just don't postpone something on the size and scale of the Olympics," he explained to the AP. "There's so many moving parts, so many countries and different seasons, and competitive seasons, and television seasons. You can't just say, 'We'll do it in October.'" Similarly, moving the Games to another city would be nearly impossible "because there are few places in the world that could think of gearing up facilities in that short time to put something on." The only options would be cities that have very recently hosted a Summer Olympics - think: Rio de Janeiro or London - and even that would be difficult to pull off on such short notice, since most Olympic venues are put into use for other purposes after the Olympics have ended.
At this point, it's very much a waiting game to see what happens with the coronavirus and how it continues to affect travel to and from Asia. It's worth noting that the most recent Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro did go ahead despite an outbreak of the Zika virus, and both Hashimoto and Pound seem optimistic that the Tokyo Games will go forward as planned. "As far as we all know, you're going to be in Tokyo," Pound said, directing his remarks to the athletes. "All indications are at this stage that it will be business as usual. So keep focused on your sport and be sure that the IOC is not going to send you into a pandemic situation."
I Left My Kid Home Alone at 7 Years Old . . . Does That Make Me Free-Range?
Most states do not have a law designating a specific age that children can be left home alone - in fact, according to U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Child Welfare Information Gateway, only three states have such laws: Illinois, Maryland, and Oregon. While other states have recommendations for the appropriate age, or checklists to determine if a child is ready, there's no nationwide consensus. Well, I've left my son home alone a handful of times when he was only 7 - does that make me a free-range parent?
I'm not so sure if it does (though I do believe freedom is important for kids) but more pressingly, I think leaving your kid home alone depends on the child. My son demonstrates the attributes of a stereotypical firstborn. He's a rule-follower, a people pleaser, and generally responsible (he has his moments, of course). If I didn't trust that he would be okay, or most importantly, if he didn't feel comfortable being home alone, I would never have considered it. But my boy was more than okay with it and felt safe. Plus, we had a plan in place each time before I left.
I've only ever left him home alone four about fifteen minutes at a time. The first time, my son was home sick with a fever and I had to drop his little sister off at preschool. We live close to the school, so I knew that I wouldn't be gone long. I looked at my son, shivering under blankets on the couch. I hated the idea of bundling him up and making him get in the car - and then making him walk through the parking lot and into the school. There was no drop-off line in preschool, making things even more difficult. So, I asked him, "Do you feel comfortable staying home alone for about fifteen minutes?"
As his teeth chattered, he responded, "I just want to stay home."
My husband and I talked it over before he left for work and we both felt comfortable letting him stay home. From there, my son and I talked about a plan (which is something we'd gone over before). I left my cell phone with him in the unlikely event of an emergency. He knew how to call 911 or even the neighbors if there was a problem. He also knew that he could run over to the neighbors if he had to. Next, I phoned the neighbors to let them know the situation and to be sure that they were home, which they were. I put a cartoon on, kissed my son on his forehead, and took his little sister to school. I'll admit, that first time I felt nervous. But when I got home, he was more than fine. Not only was he safe, still resting on the couch, but I noticed a sense of pride beaming from his sick little body. "I'm a big kid," my son said to me.
"You sure are," I said.
I don't think that all kids should be left home alone. I don't even think parents should consider it if they're not comfortable with it themselves. In my mind, it all depends on the dynamic in the home and the child. Because my son is still so young, I wouldn't leave him home for much longer than I did. But honestly, after doing it, I know that I probably could have because of how well he handled it. He didn't feel afraid, and after that first time, I didn't either.
I guess some would consider me to be a free-range parent for this. And maybe I am a little. Overall, I think that giving your child a little freedom (even at age 7) can be a valuable thing. They'll learn that they are trusted by their parents and that they can even trust themselves. With the right safety measures, I think leaving some kids home alone, can lead to growth - and I don't see anything wrong with that.
