In somewhat surprising but welcome news, Christopher Meloni is bringing Detective Elliot Stabler back to TV! But why did Meloni leave Law & Order: SVU in the first place? As speculation ramps up about the newly-announced SVU spin-off that's set to star Meloni, we're revisiting why he left the flagship show all those years ago. Det. Stabler was one of the central characters, but as it turned out, this was most likely a case of when creativity and money clashed.
Although it was never officially confirmed, the widely-accepted reason for Meloni's departure in the first place was a salary dispute. His contract, along with that of co-star Mariska Hargitay, expired in 2011, after season twelve, meaning that he and NBC had to re-negotiate and come to new terms for him to continue on with the show. As recently as 2010, TV Guide reported that both actors were among the highest-paid on TV, with salaries of approximately $395,000 per episode. During negotiations, however, The Hollywood Reporter suggested (as reported by Today) that Meloni had been offered a new contract of $8 million per year. Although that sounds like (and is) a huge salary, doing the per-episode math over a 26-episode season meant that he would be taking a pay cut to around $300,000 per episode - nearly 25 percent less than he'd been making before! With the two sides unable to come to a final agreement, Meloni instead left the show.
With little room to maneuver, the writers made an unexpected choice when writing off Det. Stabler that nonetheless meant the actor could, theoretically, return at any time. Instead of killing him off or otherwise removing him permanently, Stabler's final storyline instead ended with him making a shocking, split-second decision. In the season twelve finale - his last episode - a gunfight erupts when a woman opens fire on criminals locked in a cell. When she aims at the detectives, Stabler shoots her to stop her, resulting in her death. When the show returned for season thirteen, it's revealed that Stabler was first placed on administrative leave following the shooting, and instead of trying to return to work, he decides to retire off-screen.
According to initial reports from Deadline, the spin-off "revolves around the NYPD organized crime unit led by Stabler." NBC has reportedly already given the show a 13-episode order. The show will still be set in New York and in the existing SVU world, meaning that there's a possibility for Stabler to cross over to the original SVU or for other characters to cross over to the new show. It's a reunion a decade in the making, and we can't wait!

Your Home Will Now Become the Hottest Club Thanks to Maluma’s New Song “Que Chimba”
Leave it to Maluma to drop a new music video accompanied by a social media challenge to stay at home. The global Latin music idol just released "Que Chimba," an electronic Colombian guaracha produced by Víctor Cárdenas that will bring joy and light to his fans looking for good energy to uplift themselves.
The song got leaked months ago by DJs in Colombia's clubs, where it became an underground hit, and by popular demand, Maluma officially released it along with a video he directed and produced with his creative director and photographer Tes (César Pimienta).
The video was recorded in February and early March on a mobile phone on the streets of Prague and Munich, before Maluma's European leg of his tour was canceled due to the current situation. The idea was to bring the music of his native Medellín to the European streets and it came from a conversation between Maluma and Tes that eventually made it into the video.
"Do you know what would be sick?" Maluma says. "Doing a video now that we are here in Europe. Like taking Medellín to the whole world. Cool, right?" And that's what is reflected in the song's official video.
"Que Chimba," which is Colombian slang for "How cool" or "How dope," has also served as an initiative to bring awareness and encourage people to stay at home to prevent the spread of coronavirus. By using the hashtag #QueChimbaQuedarseEnCasa, which means, "How dope it is to stay home," people can post a video of themselves dancing to the song at home, and then Maluma will select the best ones and reshare them.
Besides encouraging his fans to stay home, he's done the same with the families of the 170 youth that benefitted from his foundation, El Arte de los Sueños. Concerned about their hardships, the foundation has bought and delivered groceries to help them through this period of sheltering at home.
Through El Arte de los Sueños, Maluma has also made significant donations of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) to hospitals such as Hospital San Rafael in Venecia, Ces Prado Centro Clinic, and San Vicente Hospital Foundation in Rio Negro, all in Colombia.

Instead of carefully tracking calories or eliminating certain foods, you simply reduce the window in which you eat during the day. But while intermittent fasting can be an effective way to lose weight, it can also come with side effects, especially when you're first getting started. Your body needs time to adjust to a new eating pattern, which can lead to hunger pangs, headaches, and general discomfort. One symptom that can have larger health implications is nausea, Miriam Christie, MS, RD, LD, a nutritionist and dietitian in Pittsburg, CA, and medical advisor for eMediHealth, told POPSUGAR.
"Nausea, vomiting, and dizziness may be associated with high or low blood sugars," Christie explained. "These feelings are not normal and should you experience them the recommendation would be to stop practicing intermittent fasting." She noted that intermittent fasting isn't something she would recommend long-term, even if you aren't experiencing side effects: "Ensuring you are receiving a balanced diet utilizing a variety of foods is the healthiest way to maintain your health," she said.
What If I Only Feel a Little Nauseous While Intermittent Fasting?
If you're in the very early stages of slight nausea while intermittent fasting, take a closer look at what you're eating. "To ensure you are receiving 100 percent of your nutrient, protein, and calorie needs, it is important that you include a balanced diet with a variety of foods," Christie told POPSUGAR. This means making sure you're eating enough protein and consuming enough calories. Your diet should also be balanced otherwise, with enough fiber and a sufficient variety of fruits and vegetables. If you notice your calorie count is way down, start there and bump yourself up to a healthy range.
If you feel like your diet is as balanced as it should be and you're still feeling sick or experiencing any other side effects of intermittent fasting, Christie recommends stopping the practice immediately. Ultimately, you have to listen to what your body is telling you. If you've gone back to a regular eating schedule and you're still experiencing troubling symptoms, it's time to check in with your doctor.

We were one week into shelter-in-place in the Bay Area, and I felt like I was letting things really fall apart. We were one week into shelter-in-place in the Bay Area, and I felt like I was letting things really fall apart. Just Because I Have an Accent Doesn't Mean I Don't Understand You

Soon, it will be five years since I moved to the United States, and although I write, speak, and understand the English language very well, my accent precedes me. I must confess that I used to be very ashamed of the way I speak, but little by little, I've overcome that shame and learned to see my strong accent with fondness.
Whether it's in our native language or in one we learned, the accent is that personal seasoning that gives flavor to the words we say. And to be honest, there's something special about the cadence, the tone, and rhythm of the Latin accents. Sofía Vergara and Salma Hayek are the best proof. Instead of seeing their accents as a weakness, they - and many other Latinx in the entertainment business - have capitalized on it and use it as their personal trademark. And we all should do the same.
For me, sadly, it was a long road before I was able to embrace my accent. I admit that not being able to speak English as a native has given me more than one headache, and has affected my self-esteem. In my first days in the country, I frequently talked to customer service representatives who asked me if I needed an interpreter to better understand what they were saying.

Some of them, especially in Miami where most people speak Spanish, stopped speaking to me in English right away and hit me with the same condescending comment: "We can continue in Spanish if it's easier for you." For a long time, I thought I couldn't speak English.
It doesn't matter if the conversation in English is flowing smoothly, knowing you have an accent triggers something in your mind. It becomes an irrevocable statement: this person can't understand me.
Work wasn't any different. I was overlooked to take charge of important client presentations because communication needed to "flow as smoothly as possible." One time I even told my boss that I had an accent to speak, but not to think.
Sometimes I doubted myself so much that I thought about taking accent-reduction classes. Then I remembered the best advice a close friend gave me: "Why do you care? You can speak and understand two different languages, plus you are collaborating to create a more diverse and multicultural work environment." So if you've ever felt unsure about your accent, please keep that in mind.
No one should feel insecure about expressing themselves, even with a borrowed language. For a long time, I saw English as a straitjacket, I only used it for what was strictly necessary, and I even avoided reading in the language of Shakespeare, looking for vain excuses such as "it's not the same as reading in Spanish".

When I moved to the US I had to dive headfirst and use English at all times. I had to overcome fear and start writing in English, reading, studying, and practicing pronunciation in everyday life situations. Doing so changed my perspective, opened my horizons and gave me new, and very valuable opportunities and experiences. Once again I confirmed that if you're scared of something, you have to do it anyway.
Of course, there will always be an unfortunate comment, a mockery, people who will attempt to detract from the capabilities of others. We are not exempt from meeting head-on people whose insecurities drive them to diminish the virtues of others in a desperate attempt to exalt their own.
Yes, I have had to deal with comments like, "Wow, despite your accent you speak quite good English." Luckily they are not that many. Most of the people you meet along the way appreciate the effort Latinx make in the US to communicate and survive using - and honoring - a borrowed language. Many have praised me and encouraged me to continue learning.
The important thing for me was to understand that I don't have to apologize for having an accent, but rather pride myself in my bilingualism, not apologize for not speaking perfectly, but be proud of trying my best every day. I have learned to see my accent as an indelible mark of who I am and where I come from. I know that I can carry on a conversation and be understood perfectly with the level of English I have today. And that is more than enough.
