Misty Copeland and 31 Ballerinas From Around the World Danced Together, and It's Mesmerizing
Like countless other art organizations, ballet companies depend on ticket sales to stay in operation, but selling tickets is impossible when performance venues are closed. The coronavirus outbreak has shut down theaters, museums, galleries, studios, and opera houses, and as a result, culture is suffering just as much as the economy. Of course, artists and performers who don't know when they'll see another paycheck are also taking a major hit. That's why American Ballet Theatre principal dancer Misty Copeland and her former colleague, Joseph Phillips, decided to launch Swans for Relief, a special video performance featuring dancers from ballet companies around the world.
With help from The Entertainment Industry Foundation and seed funding provided by K Period Media, Copeland and Phillips were able to organize the virtual event, with the goal to raise money for ballet dancers struggling with rent and other living expenses. The video performance features 32 ballerinas, representing 22 ballet companies from 14 countries, including the US, the UK, Australia, South Africa, Norway, Russia, Cuba, France, the Philippines, Canada, Austria, Mexico, Denmark, and China. Though scattered throughout the world, the 32 dancers all perform a variation from Le Cyne (The Swan), accompanied by cellist Wade Davis, and the result is pretty magical.
While the video performance is free to watch, the campaign asks that supporters donate whatever they can on Swans for Relief's GoFundMe page. Copeland and Phillips hope to raise $500,000, and those proceeds will be distributed to the relief funds of the participating dancers' companies.
As the organizers explained on the GoFundMe page, "Art brings people together to provide a beautiful escape, and ballet in particular is a very unifying experience both on and off the stage, filled with history and imagination." This video certainly proves how powerful it is when performers with a shared cause come together.
Try This 34-Minute Tabata Workout at Home - It's Printable and Entirely Bodyweight

For Tabata, you perform an exercise at maximal intensity for 20 seconds, followed by 10 seconds of rest. You repeat this on-off pattern a total of eight times, making one complete Tabata round four minutes.
This time-saving Tabata session ahead works your entire body in under 40 minutes with six rounds of Tabata, punctuated with three short body-part specific exercise series spaced throughout. (The whole workout, including two one-minute rest periods takes approximately 33 minutes and 30 seconds.) And with no equipment needed, you have no excuse not to give it a try!
Adapting My Favorite Hispanic Foods to a Keto Diet Has Helped Me Cope With the Times
Since I've been home 24/7 social distancing, admittedly I have gained a few extra pounds. I owe this to the comfort I find in eating typical Hispanic foods - nachos, rice and beans, tostones, ceviche - you name it and I've probably had it in the past couple of months. Tapping into my heritage, even if it's just with the food I consume, brings me happiness and joy in these uncertain times.
However, I noticed that I wasn't being as healthy as I wanted to be, so I set my mind to find a happy middle. After experimenting a little, I was sold: I was going to make my favorite Hispanic foods keto.
See, typical Hispanic foods are normally comprised of two of the best parts of life: carbs and fats. I decided I needed one or the other and have since opted for fats, modifying my carb intake significantly to practice a low-carb, keto-friendly approach to food.
Related: These Are the Foods You Absolutely Must Cut Out While on the Keto Diet
I am still having all of my favorite Hispanic comfort foods such as tacos - which I make using the Siete Tortillas shells - and tostones (enter: breadfruit tostones, the best low-carb invention ever). I even incorporate rice into my meals at times - Miracle Noodle rice that is, a no-carb alternative that is not a favorite but I prefer it over cauliflower rice.
The good part about a low-carb, higher fat approach is that you can have one of the most decadent foods of all time: queso! I add it to many dishes, in moderation and sometimes in excess. There's no need to skip the cotija cheese on your favorite enchiladas, and you can even make taco shells out of cheddar cheese for Taco Tuesday.

I've found a way to moderate my carb intake while still feeling like mamá (could have) made my meals, and therefore manage my weight gain (as much as I can and without being hard on myself). I'm sharing this in hopes you realize that indulging in the comfort foods that remind you of home doesn't have to be totally unhealthy.
After all, eating habits during COVID-19 are varied, and there's no one size fits all - with the exception of the size of a banana bread, which is always the perfect fit.

Behold: I Finally Found the Softest and Most Affordable Bath Towels
Now that my linen closet is stacked to full capacity, it feels safe and only right to share details about the towels I no longer want to live without. Full disclosure: I was first turned onto Hotel Collection's Ultimate MicroCotton Bath Towels ($21, originally $36) through a PR pitch and had meager expectations, until I actually gave the free towel samples a try. Whoa.
From the first wash cycle to the first time I used them, I immediately noticed how much softer, fluffier, and more absorbent they were than any of the other towels I owned. After six months of heavy use and wash rotation - because who wants to use the crappy towels anymore? - I noticed another thing: they're remarkably resistant to mildewy funk. As someone making due in a tiny bathroom with limited ventilation and towel-hanging real estate, this was a problem for me - even with frequent laundering and vinegar cycles. These, however, are different.
The towels come in 17 shades, ranging from easy neutrals to pretty pastels and a handful of bold jewel tones. I've stocked up on vapor - a warm, pale gray that feels as versatile as white but doesn't show my makeup residue as easily. It's the lighter of the two gray options.
While the original price is $36 for a bath towel, you can score one for $21 on sale, which is what propelled me to finally stock up. Like sheets, buying high-quality towels at a price you can afford is an investment worth making. If you're looking for an affordable upgrade to your daily shower or bath routine, I highly recommend them.
Make DIY Oven Cleaner at Home With This Easy Recipe
If you've got a dirty secret hiding in your kitchen, then it's time to take care of it. Instead of purchasing a chemical-filled oven cleaner, make your own to leave your oven looking sparkling clean. And guess what? This DIY costs basically nothing to make and doesn't involve breaking a sweat. You won't be embarrassed to open your oven in front of others ever again after trying this homemade cleaning concoction!
What You'll Need:
- 1/4 cup liquid dish soap
- 1/2 cup baking soda
- 1/4 cup hydrogen peroxide
- Zest of one lemon
- 1 tablespoon vinegar
- Scrub sponge
- Paper towels
Directions:
- Even if you're dealing with years of baked-on grime, giving it a quick wipe-down with warm, soapy water with a scrub sponge is a great starting point for tackling the mess. Rinse the sponge often to remove grease.
- Mix together the ingredients until it resembles thick glue. The baking soda naturally scrubs without scratching, while the hydrogen peroxide and dish soap tackle all that gunk. Lemon zest offers a fresh scent along with the vinegar.
- Remove the racks and use a paper towel or sponge to smooth the cleaner all over the inside of the oven, including the oven door. You'll see it start working right away, but don't be tempted to scrub! The longer the concoction sits, the better. Once you've run out of cleaner and the oven is coated, shut the door and let it work its magic for at least four hours.
- Open the oven and use a damp scrub sponge to remove the cleaner, and also give a little scrub here and there. It's helpful to have a bucket of warm, soapy water nearby for this step. And without any serious scrubbing, the oven is noticeably cleaner!
- Set your oven to self-clean, and close the door. It's OK if some of the cleaner is hanging around in crevices or on areas that were really baked-on, but the entire oven shouldn't still be coated while it's cleaning. Allow your oven to run its self-clean cycle, and then let cool for at least an hour before the next step.
- Open your oven and use a damp paper towel or sponge to wipe away any remaining cleaner and residue left over from the self-cleaning. The result is a sparkling-clean oven!

Why Resistance Bands Are as Good as Free Weights, According to a Trainer
Whether you're in the process of building up your home gym with the right equipment or don't have the space (or budget) for a set of free weights right now, here's some good news for your strength training routine: resistance bands can be just as effective, if not more so. "To start, resistance bands are key to a no-excuse workout," Juliet Kaska, a celebrity health and fitness expert and member of the Vionic Innovation Lab, told POPSUGAR. "They are inexpensive, store away easily, and fit into a suitcase or even a purse, adding only an ounce or so of weight." But aside from being so portable and wallet-friendly, these little bands can have some big benefits for your muscles. Read on to find out why, plus how to make sure you're using them correctly.
Why Do Resistance Bands Work Better Than Free Weights?
"Resistance bands require you to work both the eccentric and concentric contraction," Kaska explained. "The concentric contraction is the shortening of the muscle (what most people think is the actual exercise). For example, if you're doing a bicep curl, this is the portion where you bring the weight up, shortening the space at the elbow. The eccentric contraction is when you bring the weight down." It's this eccentric movement that most often gets neglected when doing exercises with free weights, leading someone to drop the weight rather than slowly bring it down with resistance. By using a resistance band, you're less likely to cheat yourself out of half an exercise, keeping your muscles engaged throughout.
How Do I Know If I'm Using a Resistance Band Correctly?
It's one of the more confusing things about using resistance bands: making sure your form is right. If it's not, using one may not feel like much of a workout at all. "People can often get frustrated when using a resistance band because at the start of the move it seems like the resistance isn't heavy enough," Kaska said. "But it's the nature of elasticity that the further you pull it, the 'heavier' it gets, so by the time you get to the top of the exercise the band should be very heavy. This is when you want to engage a little further and pull or push out to that last inch to maximize the repetition."
How Should I Care For My Resistance Bands?
Resistance bands are great space savers - roll them up and stick them under your bed, in a closet, or any other nook you can find. Just be sure that wherever you keep them it isn't in direct sunlight, Kaska explained. Doing so can make your bands more brittle and less stretchy. Before using, check for any discoloration or tears. "Even a micro tear can expand quickly under pressure and snap a band," she said. Replace them regularly - at least every year, possibly less than a year depending on how often you use them - to stay safe from wear and tear while you work out.

This FedEx Driver Surprised a Kid With Cupcakes When She Celebrated Her Birthday at Home
Ok @FedEx our driver deserves a bonus! He realized it was our daughter's birthday & went to @DairyQueen to get her ice cream cupcakes. Planning a child's birthday celebrations while social distancing can prove difficult, which is why it's so touching when someone goes out of their way to help make the day special. Take Jodan Price, for instance. The FedEx driver recently went above-and-beyond to surprise a young girl with Dairy Queen ice cream cupcakes, and gave her mom something to smile about.
Mom Liz Paternoster shared her gratitude for "Mr. Price" on Twitter and expressed plenty of thanks for making her daughter Emma's day. According to Liz, Jodan simply wanted to make up for the birthday celebrations Emma might've lost while staying at home. The story quickly gained traction on social media, and many people responded with their own heartwarming stories and love for Jodan's actions. (His son even got in on the fun!) Eventually, Jodan made his way back to Liz and Emma's home and they were able to thank him in person. Watch the video below to see the sweetness go down.
Update: My Dad went back around to the house today and this is what happened. Thank you again for all of the comments! And thank you @Mrs_ConCon1787 for capturing this moment! pic.twitter.com/CqBKgAsriZ

9 Common Side Effects of Intermittent Fasting and How to Deal With Them
While weight loss is a huge reason people try intermittent fasting (IF), there are tons of other health benefits. You may experience reduced inflammation, improved digestion, reduced bloating, increased mental clarity, better sleep, and getting a handle on sugar cravings and food addiction.
You're ready to give it a try, but you need to be aware of some not-so-awesome side effects that you'll likely experience in the beginning. POPSUGAR caught up with Stephanie Ferrari, a registered dietitian, who said, "Think about it this way - people don't go from couch potato to triathlete overnight. Your body needs time to acclimate to any extreme changes. So you're going to experience some side effects when you suddenly stop eating for long periods of time." These can be unbearable at the beginning, but as long as you know how to deal with them, you'll be able to stick with IF and reap all the benefits.
Before starting any new diet plan, including intermittent fasting, be sure to check in with your doctor first.
1. Hunger
When you're used to eating five to six times a day, your body comes to expect food at certain times. Stephanie said, "The hormone ghrelin is responsible for making us feel hungry. It typically peaks at breakfast, lunch, and dinner time and is partially regulated by food intake. When you first start fasting, ghrelin levels will continue to peak and you will feel hungry." At first, it will take serious willpower. Days three through five may feel the worst, but there will come a time when you reach the beginning of your eating window and you don't even feel hungry!
Dr. Luiza Petre, a nutrition and weight-loss specialist and board-certified cardiologist, suggests combating hunger in that first week or two by drinking tons of water to keep your belly full, help you feel more alert, and help satiate that habit of having to put something in your mouth. Within 30 minutes of waking up, pound at least 12 ounces. If you feel a pang of hunger, drink another 12 ounces or more. One thing intermittent fasting will teach you is that what you thought was hunger was probably thirst or boredom.
Drinking black coffee and tea can also curb hunger. Also get enough sleep, keep busy, and avoid strenuous workouts in the first couple weeks, since that can increase hunger. Eating enough the day before and getting your fill of carbs, healthy fats, and protein is also key in preventing hunger.
2. Cravings
Stephanie said, "If I told you that you couldn't eat watermelon ever again, chances are, all you'd want to do is eat a slice of watermelon. During intermittent fasting, you're going extralong periods without eating. So chances are, you'll only be able to think about eating. That's when the cravings kick in. You'll also find that you're more likely to crave sweets and/or refined carbohydrates because your body is looking for that glucose hit."
Do whatever you can to not think about food, and be sure to indulge a little during your feeding window so you have the chance to satisfy those cravings.
3. Headaches
As your body is getting used to this new eating schedule, dull headaches that come and go are pretty common. POPSUGAR caught up with Edward Vasquez, who has an intermittent fasting YouTube channel called Fledge Fitness which offers information, tips, and inspiration for IF. He said dehydration can be one factor, so make sure you're drinking tons of water during both your fasting and feeding windows.
Stephanie adds that headaches can also be caused by blood sugar levels decreasing and by stress hormones released by your brain while fasting. With time, your body will get used to this new eating schedule, but try to remain as stress-free as possible.
4. Low Energy
Your body is no longer getting the constant source of fuel you used to get from eating all day long, so expect to feel a little sluggish those first couple of weeks. Try to keep your day as relaxed as possible so you can exert the least amount of energy. You might want to give your workouts a break or just do light exercise like walking or yoga. Getting extra sleep may also help.
5. Irritability
Feeling hangry is real, and it sucks. Stephanie says to expect to feel a little cranky when your blood sugar levels drop or you're dealing with the other side effects of IF, like cravings and low energy. You can deal with this by avoiding situations and people that might make you more annoyed and focusing on doing things that make you happy.
6. Heartburn, Bloating, and Constipation (Oh My!)
Your stomach produces acid to help digest your food, so when you're not eating, you may experience heartburn (this side effect isn't as common as the others). This could range from mild discomfort to burping all day to full-on pain. Time should cure this side effect, so just keep drinking water, prop yourself up when you sleep, and when you do eat, avoid greasy, spicy foods that could make your heartburn worse. If it doesn't go away, speak to your doctor.
Intermittent fasting can also cause constipation if you're not staying hydrated, which can cause bloating and discomfort. Stephanie suggests drinking tons of water to prevent this issue, which can also help prevent headaches, and make you feel more energized.
7. Feeling Cold
Cold fingers and toes while fasting is pretty common, but for a good reason! When you fast, blood flow increases to your fat stores. Called adipose tissue blood flow, this helps to move fat to your muscles, where it can be burned as a fuel. Stephanie says that when your blood sugar decreases, that can also make you more sensitive to feeling cold. Combat coldness by sipping hot tea, taking warm showers, wearing extra layers, and avoiding being outside in the cold for prolonged periods of time.
8. Overeating
Edward also brought up this negative side effect, and Stephanie agrees. People tend to overeat in the beginning of the IF journey, either because they heard calories don't matter (they do!) or because they are so excited about food that they overdo it. Planning out your meals ahead of time can keep portions in check.
You may also feel so famished by the time your fasting window ends that you eat really fast and end up eating way more than you normally would. Stephanie warns, "When the fasting period is over during IF, you need to be mindful about your first meal. You may feel like reaching for a slice a pizza (or four), but opt for the grilled chicken and salad instead. Your future self will thank you."
9. Bathroom Trips
Because you're drinking oceans of water to stay hydrated and fill you up, you're going to feel the need to run to the bathroom more often. We're talking maybe even twice an hour! Sorry to say there's no way around this. You definitely don't want to reduce your water intake, so just make sure you're always close to a bathroom.
Also Important: Know When to Quit
All of this sounds pretty bad, but I speak from experience - these symptoms generally only last a week, maybe three at most. The best way to alleviate the side effects is to ease into intermittent fasting - don't go from eating six meals a day to eating two. Dr. Petre adds, "Just give it some time and intermittent fasting becomes natural and healthy, with less appetite, more mental sharpness, and an enviable waistline in the long run."
Always Listen to Your Body
Stephanie says, "Intermittent fasting is not for everyone. For example, people with diabetes, pregnant or nursing mothers, and children should not practice intermittent fasting. People who are managing chronic illnesses should always check in with their doctor prior to starting any new diet or eating regime. Finally, anyone with a history of or risk for developing eating disorders should avoid fasting of any kind."
There is a time when these side effects shouldn't be ignored. Stephanie says, "IF might not be for you if you experience dizziness due to low blood sugar, if fasting is interfering with your ability to keep up with your responsibilities, or you develop an unhealthy obsession with food." You may need to cut your fast short and eat earlier than you planned, or you may need to stop fasting altogether. If you have any concerns or issues, it's always a good idea to consult your doctor.

5 Stretches You Should Do Every Day, According to a Yoga Instructor
You probably already stretch before and after exercising, depending on the workout, but stretching is something you need to do every day, whether you work out or not. That's because it keeps your muscles from shortening (hello, tight hamstrings from sitting at a desk all day), and helps with flexibility, mobility, and range of motion. Aside from making you strong and limber, stretching regularly will protect you from injury, too.
Thankfully, it doesn't take a ton of time. These five exercises from Tessa Jenkins, training director for Bulldog Online and Bulldog Yoga, can be done in just five minutes at any point during the day. Whether you prefer to wake up and stretch or shake off brain fog with some midday poses, the benefits of this routine will help both body and mind.
