This 60-Minute CrossFit Home Workout Is Guaranteed to Make You Strong and Sweaty!

If you're itching to do a longer workout to up your fitness game or because it's the weekend and you finally have some free time, here's a 60-minute CrossFit home workout you can bust through. What's great about this workout is that it includes eight different basic CrossFit moves, but you do them in a random order (chosen by a random generator), keeping your mind and your muscles guessing. Jade Jenny, head CrossFit coach and owner of Champlain Valley CrossFit, chose eight basic bodyweight and dumbbell moves like plank holds and chest presses you can do with minimal equipment.

This is an EMOM workout (every minute on the minute), but since it's 60 minutes, Jenny simplified the structure of the workout by having us repeat each exercise for two minutes (so it's 30 rounds). I did this workout over Zoom with about 60 other members of my box, and by the 30-minute mark, I wanted to shut my laptop and call it a day. But seeing everyone struggling through deadlifts, lunges, and seemingly endless burpees, I felt inspired to push even harder! It also reminded me how much I miss my gym and made me fall in love with CrossFit all over again.

If you can't get to your gym or you love home workouts, give this 60-minute HIIT workout a try. You'll be sweaty, but knowing you're getting stronger will make you feel so good! As Jenny says before every workout, "Get after it!"

The 60-Minute CrossFit Home Workout

Equipment needed: One or two pair of dumbbells; choose a weight you'll be able to work with throughout the workout (I used 15-pound and 25-pound dumbbells).

Directions: Before the workout, complete a five-minute dynamic warmup. This is a 60-minute workout, but do whatever you have time for, whether it's 20, 30, or 40 minutes. There will be eight different exercises in this workout, and they should be completed in the specific (yet random) order listed in the chart ahead. Repeat each movement twice (so for two minutes) before moving on to the next exercise. For each minute, complete as many proper reps as you can in 40 seconds, followed by a 20-second rest. Rep suggestions are listed below; beginners can do fewer reps, and more advanced athletes can go for higher reps.

After the workout, make time for this 10-minute stretching routine. Read on for a rundown of the exercises you'll be doing and directions on how to do each exercise.

  • Exercise 1: Dumbbell forward lunge: five to eight reps per side
  • Exercise 2: Dumbbell deadlift: eight to 12 reps
  • Exercise 3: Single-arm dumbbell overhead shoulder press: five to eight reps per side
  • Exercise 4: Dumbbell chest press (on floor or bench): 10 to 15 reps
  • Exercise 5: Burpee: eight to 12 reps
  • Exercise 6: Air squat: 15 to 25 reps
  • Exercise 7: Plank hold: 30 to 40 seconds
  • Exercise 8: V-up: 10 to 20 reps
Time Exercises
Minutes 1-10 2-4-3-7-4
Minutes 11-20 7-2-3-8-5
Minutes 21-30 2-5-8-4-2
Minutes 31-40 1-8-1-4-7
Minutes 41-50 3-8-7-5-8
Minutes 51-60 5-1-5-1-5

To be clear on how this workout is carried out, for minutes one and two, I did 12 dumbbell deadlifts. During the third and fourth minutes, I did 12 dumbbell chest presses on the floor, and during the fifth and sixth minutes, I did 12 single-arm dumbbell overhead shoulder presses. And yes, move six (air squat) never happens in this workout, but there are plenty of deadlifts, lunges, and burpees to make up for it!

Educate Yourself: 13 Podcast Episodes About Black Life in America to Download Right Now

If we're going to root out the systemic racism that pervades this country, Americans - white Americans, in particular - have enormous work to do. Before we can raise a new generation of antiracist children, we have to first turn inward and do the work of educating ourselves. It's not incumbent on members of the Black community to make us understand the brutal realities of racism - it's on the rest of us to take a seat, listen, and learn from the ample resources that already exist.

Below, we've rounded up a small sampling of podcast episodes that tackle issues from housing discrimination and historically racist land-ownership policies to police brutality and white fragility.

From Soccer to the NBA, Here's When Major US Sports Leagues Are Planning to Return

Some businesses and services are beginning to reopen in the wake of the coronavirus shutdown, but large gatherings are still prohibited in most areas. That means that professional sports - or at least, professional sports as we're used to experiencing them - will have a longer and more complicated path to return. The good news is that most major pro leagues are planning a comeback of some kind; the bad news is that we may not be able to see them in person for a while, maybe not until a vaccine is widely distributed.

Globally, the Korean Baseball Organization was one of the first pro leagues to resume play. The Bundesliga, Germany's elite soccer league, followed suit in mid-May. Keep reading to see how and when American pro sports are planning to return, and what you can expect to see when they do.

MLB

Major League Baseball and the MLB Players' Association are stuck in contract negotiations. The latest proposal from the MLBPA asks for a season of 89 games with full prorated pay (their full-season salary, but decreased based on the shortened playing time) and expanded playoffs, according to a source speaking to ESPN on June 10. Their proposed season would start July 10 and end Oct. 11. However, an MLB source told ESPN that this proposal was likely to be rejected. The MLB's current proposal, announced June 8, sets up a 76-game season and would pay players 75 percent of their prorated salaries. The regular season would end by Sept. 27.

The players' union is refusing anything less than full prorated pay. As an explanation for this hard stance, Washington Nationals pitcher Sean Doolittle tweeted, "It's frustrating to have a public labor dispute when there's so much hardship. I hate it. But we have an obligation to future players to do right by them. We want to play. We also have to make sure that future players won't be paying for any concessions we make."

MLS

Major League Soccer is set to return July 8 with the MLS Is Back tournament. All 26 teams will participate, and the competition will be held in Orlando at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex (part of the Walt Disney World Resort). The games will be played without fans but the matches will be televised; broadcast and streaming information haven't yet been released.

Each team will play a three-game group stage, with the top two teams in each group moving on to a round of 16 knockout stage. The final is scheduled for Aug. 11. Regular season play will resume after the tournament, though the full schedule has yet to be released. A regular postseason is also planned.

NBA

The National Basketball Association will return in late July with a 22-team format. Each team will play eight regular season games to determine seeding before moving into the playoffs, The Washington Post reported. The games will be played at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Disney World without fans in attendance.

NCAA Sports

So far, most of the focus has been on whether college football will be able to hold its season in the fall, and it's reasonable to assume that most other sports will follow a similar plan. The latest update, reported June 8 by ESPN, would plan for the season to begin on time (in late August and early September), with coaches beginning to work with players as early as July 6. Meetings and walk-throughs with a football would start in mid-July if the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) approves the current plan.

Much can change between now and the projected start of the season, and in a call with Congressional leadership, NCAA president Mark Emmert said that some teams may not return at all. However, leaders appeared confident that football will be played with at least some fans in the stands, according to Sports Illustrated.

NFL

The National Football League's season is still scheduled to begin on Sept. 10, with no word yet on whether fans will be able to attend games. Players are currently training remotely, with team training camps set to open in late July.

NHL

The National Hockey League's Return to Play Plan will have 24 teams compete to determine playoff seeding. Sixteen teams will play in eight best-of-five series while the top four teams in both conferences will play a round robin, setting rankings for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Still to be determined: the start date and two "hub cities" that will host the games.

NWSL

The National Women's Soccer League is set to be the first US sports league to return. The 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup will kick off June 27 in Utah, with broadcast coverage on CBS All Access. No fans will be in attendance for the 25-game tournament, which all nine clubs will participate in. Each team will play four games, with the top eight teams advancing to the quarterfinals.

WNBA

No official statement has been made about the return of the Women's National Basketball Association. On June 4, ESPN reported that the league's current proposal is a 22-game regular season beginning July 24, and with playoffs ending in October, all played at a single site in Florida. The proposal was described as tentative and players have not yet agreed to its terms, according to ESPN's sources.

The Heartbreaking Reason Michael Jordan Decided to Pursue a Career in Baseball in 1994

Michael Jordan's career in basketball is the stuff of legend - as the docuseries The Last Dance shows - but did you know he spent a season playing baseball, too? Jordan's brief stint on the baseball diamond may seem like an unexpected detour, but in fact, it was a special tribute to his father, who died suddenly in 1993.

According to a Sports Illustrated retrospective, Jordan said he was "pursuing a dream of his late father, who always envisioned his son as a big leaguer." In August 1993, his father James Jordan's vehicle was found in North Carolina, and an investigation launched, since no one had heard from James since he traveled to Wilmington, NC, for a funeral. Authorities soon concluded that he had been shot and killed in a botched robbery, according to the Chicago Tribune. The Washington Post reported that his body was found in a swamp in South Carolina nearly two weeks after he was attacked on the side of the highway, but it was so badly decomposed that it wasn't immediately identified.

Jordan retired from the NBA two months later, sending shock waves through the sports world. He surprised fans again in February 1994, when he announced he had signed as a minor league baseball player with the Chicago White Sox, joining the Class AA team the Birmingham Barons. "It began as my father's idea," Jordan told The New York Times. "We had seen Bo Jackson and Deion Sanders try two sports and my father had said that he felt I could have made it in baseball, too. He said, 'You've got the skills.' He thought I had proved everything I could in basketball, and that I might want to give baseball a shot. I told him, 'No, I haven't done everything. I haven't won a championship.' Then I won it, and we talked about baseball on occasion, and then we won two more championships. And then he was killed."

At the age of 31, Jordan was a rookie right-fielder going up against younger prospects who had dedicated themselves to baseball from the start. He batted a mediocre .202, but according to Sports Illustrated, he was one of only six Class AA players with at least 50 RBIs and 30 steals. Jordan only played one season of baseball, however, returning to basketball in March 1995.

If You're Planning on Attending Gatherings, the CDC "Strongly Encourages" Wearing Face Masks

As states are reopening and lifting social distancing restrictions amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, some communities have begun to host gatherings again. The Centers For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is recommending all Americans to continue wearing cloth face coverings, among other guidelines, to help lower the risk of spreading the virus during gatherings and events.

In its updated guidelines, the CDC "strongly encouraged" cloth face coverings in settings where "individuals might raise their voice," citing shouting, chanting, and singing as examples. These settings might include protests, concerts, conferences, and weddings, or any other gatherings where physical distancing may be difficult. As a reminder, wearing a cloth face mask isn't necessarily meant to protect an individual from getting the virus, but rather to protect them from unknowingly spreading the virus to others, if they aren't showing any symptoms, according to the CDC.

While the World Health Organization (WHO) recently said the asymptomatic spread of coronavirus is "very rare," the CDC advises event organizers and attendees to continue to exercise caution, and prioritize outdoor activities as much as possible. "The more people an individual interacts with at a gathering and the longer that interaction lasts, the higher the potential risk of becoming infected with COVID-19 and COVID-19 spreading," the CDC states.

In addition to wearing face masks, the CDC recommends washing hands often and maintaining distance when possible, and discourages individuals from exchanging physical interactions, like handshakes, fist bumps, and high-fives at events. If you believe that you're infected with the coronavirus, are showing symptoms, or have been in close contact with someone showing symptoms within the past 14 days, you should stay home, especially from gatherings. If you have COVID-19 symptoms, here's how you can take care of yourself at home.

I Live in a Tiny Apartment, and Here's How I Store All My Winter Coats

I love almost everything about my apartment, with one notable exception, the closet space. I've yet to meet a person who truly feels like they have enough room for their clothes, but the biggest issue I have, without question, is storing winter coats. When the temperature dips and I have to start breaking them out, there's simply no room. My dresses, tops, and fall jackets take precedence; hanging one parka in the closet would take up the same amount of space as five other items of clothing, so it's not practical either. Enter: the coat rack.

I have a skinny little coat rack that sits perfectly in an awkward corner between my living room and kitchen, and it might just be the best thing I've bought for my apartment. This thing is small but mighty - it stores seven of my winter coats without a problem. It hasn't tipped over or broken, despite the weight of down and shearling. If you're living in a small space, I cannot recommend this enough. It barely takes up any room, it's super convenient, and it allows you to hang all your other clothes. I found the exact coat rack I use, plus a few more options, all on Amazon. Thank me later.

Experts Explain Why a Vaccine Is the Only Safe Way to Achieve Herd Immunity For COVID-19

You may have heard the term "herd immunity" tossed around in response to the novel coronavirus, but the idea that we could overcome the pandemic if enough people were exposed to COVID-19 is a dangerous notion. In fact, experts told POPSUGAR that it could lead to "millions of excess deaths."

"There is a common misconception about the coronavirus that all that is needed is herd immunity and the pandemic will cease," said David Cutler, MD, a family medicine physician at Providence Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica, CA. "The misconception is that herd immunity can be achieved with ease, low cost, and few lives lost." According to Dr. Cutler, this couldn't be further from the truth, and herd immunity is actually quite difficult to achieve.

What Is Herd Immunity?

"Herd immunity occurs when a high percentage of a population is immune to a disease, either from having a prior infection then recovering or from a vaccination," Natasha Bhuyan, MD, a physician and regional director at One Medical, told POPSUGAR. "The exact threshold for herd immunity depends on the specific disease."

Dr. Cutler explained that this threshold varies based on how easily the disease is spread. "Measles, which is highly infectious, requires over 90 percent of the population to be immune before herd immunity will be achieved. Meanwhile, influenza can be controlled with a 60 percent level of herd immunity," he said. COVID-19 might be somewhere in the middle: "Most experts expect that coronavirus would require 70 to 80 percent protection to achieve herd immunity."

Herd immunity is typically achieved through a vaccine, such as that for polio. "This is a disease which just a few decades ago brought fear to parents that their children would be paralyzed for life. And although isolated cases still occur in many places, a high enough proportion of people are immune through vaccination that epidemics no longer occur," Dr. Cutler said.

In other cases, like chicken pox, herd immunity has been achieved through vaccination and natural exposure, he explained. "Before the vaccine existed, parents would bring previously uninfected children into contact with the disease to get them infected, and thus immune before adulthood, when the disease could be much more serious."

Why Can't We Achieve "Natural" Herd Immunity to COVID-19?

There are a few reasons. First, "the prevalence rate is not high enough currently to confer immunity in enough individuals," Dr. Bhuyan said, meaning that many more would need to be exposed to achieve herd immunity. "Additionally, we actually know very little about individual immunity from COVID-19." It's still too soon for medical experts to know how many people develop antibodies to the disease or how long that immunity lasts, which means we could be risking people's lives with little to no hope of achieving the desired outcome.

That's where things get particularly dangerous with COVID-19 - because while some would argue that the virus isn't that deadly, that simply isn't true. The death rate is much higher for those over 80, Dr. Cutler explained, and "sex, race, and underlying health conditions can also pose increased risk." Bottom line: "This approach to achieving herd immunity assumes vulnerable people will not be exposed, and that is why achieving herd immunity without a vaccine is problematic," he said.

"It would result in millions of excess deaths in the hope of achieving herd immunity through widespread exposure," Dr. Cutler continued. "And even if enough people got infected, there would be no assurance of achieving effective herd immunity." The focus should instead be on developing a safe and effective vaccine as soon as possible.

POPSUGAR aims to give you the most accurate and up-to-date information about the coronavirus, but details and recommendations about this pandemic may have changed since publication.

A Look Back at LGBTQ+ Weddings That Have Us Believing in Happily Ever Afters

June is Pride Month, and celebrating the love between LGBTQ+ couples is just as important this month as it is every month of the year. From intimate moments shared between an eloping couple to bold and bright celebrations with the whole family in attendance, these weddings prove that love knows no boundaries.

We're taking a look back at the most memorable LGBTQ+ weddings we've featured on POPSUGAR over the years. Get lost in the beauty and romance of these love-filled wedding moments ahead.

Llane Wants to Make Us Fall in Love “Como Antes,” and I Approve of the Chivalry

Llane is a man after our hearts. With a beautiful bolero mixed with modern Latin rhythms, the Colombian artist showed his versatility and vulnerability with his surprise drop "Como Antes," a tribute to romanticism that will make you believe in love again.

"I always dreamed to be able to do a song that mixed my own identity as an artist with classic Latin music elements," Llane told POPSUGAR. "In this case, bolero has been a genre I grew up listening to and loving, and now I get to combine it with the rhythms that have defined my career." He added that what he loves the most about this song is that it makes you feel a "positive nostalgia."

I always dreamed to be able to do a song that mixed my own identity as an artist with classic Latin music elements.

"Como Antes" was written about a year ago by Llane along with Ángel "Pututi" from Cuba and Cris Chil from Ecuador. Llane revealed that at the time he was in a relationship and this was the song to show that person how important they were to him. "I really wanted this person to understand how relevant they were," Llane said, "and I think that when you're saying that to someone, you have to do it with a masterpiece, and I think this song is a masterpiece."

While Llane is not with that person anymore, he thinks this song is perfect for all of those who need to show their significant other how much they mean to them, especially since the lyric is a "confession of vulnerability" and "opens your soul and shows you exactly the way you are."

The song comes accompanied by a seductive music video directed via FaceTime by Teo, who has already worked with Llane on "Más de Ti" and "Amor Bailando." Here, we see a romantic and enamored Llane, dressed formally but with his characteristic edge, preparing for an evening full of emotion and good music with candles and wine setting the mood.

"We shot the video here in my house," Llane said. He had the help from three of his closest team members who "created a new universe" in his home and did the camerawork, and the director called the shots over video call.

Llane revealed his inspiration behind the concept for this video was Frank Sinatra and old Hollywood films that "took fantasy to a new level." "I even cried while shooting the video," Llane said. "I really got into the character."

Llane reveals that he broke down during the shoot, because of the very aspects that made the song personal. This is his mom's favorite song, and in the arrangement, Llane added "philharmonic-type chords" that reminded him of his father. "My dad was a big proponent of culture in Sabaneta, where I grew up," he said. "Before he passed, he created a symphonic band. After he passed, they named the band Juan David Castaño Arango, after him."

"Como Antes" is a song that wasn't supposed to be released because, according to Llane, a lot of people thought it was too risky. But if he's learned anything from his time at home thanks to social distancing, it's to let go of your fears. "This is a before and after of my career," he said. "You know when your time is right, and I feel like this is my moment!"

Mariah is Saying “Gracias” and Moving on to Better Things in Her New Music Video

Maybe you've been there: you're in a relationship with a manipulative person who continues to hurt you in many ways, but can't seem to let them go - even though you know better and despite our loved ones' advice and concern. But once we finally realize our worth and we separate from that person for good, it feels like a huge weight was lifted off our shoulders and now we're unstoppable.

That's the vibe Mariah put into her new song, "Gracias," a ballad unlike what we're used to hearing from her, yet a nice surprise to come from Miami's newest princess. The song was a collaboration co-written and produced by rising Venezuelan newcomer Andry Kiddos, and continues positioning Mariah as Latin music's newest breakout star.

"'Gracias' is my form of manifesting liberation from the toxicity that a bad situation can cause on the soul and how we can walk away stronger and unbroken," Mariah said in a press release. "I hope it helps anyone who is going through a tough moment and needs the motivation to push through."

The music video, directed by José Emilio Sagaro, shows Mariah's most vulnerable side, with mostly close-up shots that reflect the internal turmoil she's going through, as she realizes she's a strong woman who is capable of creating her own happiness.
