Leave it to culinary queen Ina Garten to share a quick tip on how to cut it without making a huge mess. Cutting the corn in a downward motion is the common method; however, this usually causes kernels to fly all over your kitchen. Ina's helpful trick is to place a clean kitchen towel on the counter first. Then, cut the kernels off the cob (using a sharp knife) right on top of the towel. You can then scoop up the kernels by picking up the towel and pour them all into a bowl in one swift motion.

Netflix and Laverne Cox Team Up For Doc, Disclosure, to Examine Transgender Representation on Screen
On June 19, Netflix released a new documentary, Disclosure, which examines 100 years of transgender depictions in film and television. With Laverne Cox (Orange Is the New Black) as executive producer and Sam Feder as director, the documentary shows the connections between trans representation on screen, society's beliefs, and the reality of trans lives - revealing "how Hollywood both reflects and manufactures our deepest anxieties about gender."
Disclosure traces the history of transgender representation through films like A Florida Enchantment (1914), Dog Day Afternoon, The Crying Game, and Boys Don't Cry, and with shows like The Jeffersons, The L-Word, and Pose. Through a series of powerful interviews, the documentary explores how trans people have been depicted in ways that are dehumanizing, yet also in ways that are evolving, complex, and sometimes humorous. The documentary comes during Pride Month, which has joined with the Black Lives Matter movement to protest for equality in the United States.
Over the past week, there have been numerous demonstrations to support the Black trans community. On Sunday, June 14, thousands of protesters gathered outside the Brooklyn Museum in New York City to demand justice for the deaths and disproportionate violence Black trans people face everyday. The following day, on June 15, the United States Supreme Court ruled that the Civil Rights Act of 1964 - which prohibits sex discrimination in the workplace - includes LGBTQ+ employees. It's a step in the right direction, but there is still a hell of a lot of work to be done, and more representation on screens is a crucial step in the right direction.
"I think the way trans people have been represented on screen have suggested that we are not real, have suggested that we are mentally ill, that we don't exist," says Cox in the documentary's trailer. 5 Expert Barre Workout Tips to Improve Your Sweat Sessions
I wouldn't consider my go-to barre workout to be a high-risk activity for injuries. Still, without an instructor at home to correct my form, I know the potential is there. Talking to Elements Fitness Studio barre trainer Darby Fulcher further opened my eyes to some poor workout habits I've formed - and usually dismiss - that could lead to muscle tightness or strains.
I know I'm not the only one who skips cooldowns or starts to sag midplank, so when Fulcher offered some tips for improving my home barre workout sessions, I felt compelled to spread the word.

Choose Your Weights Wisely
If working out from home means you only have access to one set of heavy dumbbells, Fulcher believes it's better to skip the weights or opt for lighter alternatives instead.
"Using weights that are too heavy can affect your form, causing you to raise your shoulders or yank the weights up to try to complete the exercise, which can lead to injuries," she says.
Since barre prioritizes higher rep counts, it's important to use lighter weights (Fulcher recommends between two and five pounds) to create lean muscles.
"If you don't have lighter weights, consider swapping out your heavy set with water bottles or cans as an alternative, or lower the amount of reps you do so that you can maintain your form and prevent injuries," she adds.
Check on Your "Barre" Height
Chances are you don't have a ballet barre at home - I surely do not. Fulcher says that alternatives, like a chair or tabletop, are encouraged for balance as long as you're maintaining proper posture.
"Barres in studios are set up to be at a height where you can rest your hands on the barre without having to pitch forward or backward. When using a chair, it might be a bit lower than the typical barre, so really think about your form,"
Her trick: imagine there is a string coming out of the top of your head that reaches up to the ceiling. Lower just your arms (not your upper body) to meet your makeshift barre, and use your core to stabilize. If the chair or counter still feels too low, Fulcher says to move to the wall where you can place your hands at the proper height for balance.
Pay Attention to Your Shoulders While Planking
We've all experienced shaky planks - you're engaging your core, arms, back, and legs to maintain good form when the muscle fatigue hits. According to Fulcher, the minute you sink into your shoulders and your head drops toward the mat, you're putting yourself at risk for neck and back strain. At that point, your neck is being pulled down by gravity instead of supported by your muscles.
If you feel yourself sag midplank, Fulcher suggests pressing your palms into the mat as if you're pushing it away and holding your gaze about six inches beyond your fingertips to ensure your head stays in alignment with your spine.
Don't Roll Those Hips Back
There are several ways you can tone your glutes through barre - but, many of those moves allow for the same mistake, Fulcher says.
"When lying on your side doing poses like clamshell, where you're mostly working your top leg, it's common to roll back on the hip, opening the hips up toward the ceiling."
When doing this, Fulcher says you won't feel the exercises as deeply, because gravity is doing some of the work for you.
"Think of stacking your hips, one on top of the other, and create a navel-to-spine connection to stabilize yourself as your lower body moves around," she adds.
Don't Forget to Cool Down
By exiting out of your virtual barre class early, you're only doing yourself a disservice - Fulcher says that the cooldown portion of your workout is "vital."
"You're not allowing your muscles the proper recovery time, which can leave you feeling stiff and sore. Stick it out, and give the cooldown the same amount of love and attention you'd give to the rest of the class," she says.

6 Cross-Training Exercises That’ll Boost Your Running Performance
Attention all runners: adding 20 push-ups to your routine jogs could give you a leg-up when it comes to boosting performance and staying healthy.
"Cross training is important for strengthening your muscles and connective tissues for injury prevention and rehabilitation," Victoria O'Neil, an NASM-certified personal trainer and coach for STRIDE, explains.
According to O'Neil, building your upper and lower body, core, and feet muscles can also enhance your stability, endurance, forward propulsion, breathing, posture, balance, stride, coordination, and mobility.
By building leaner muscles, you're increasing your metabolism, too, which can help to up your speed, muscle control, and oxygen intake, O'Neil adds.
So, if you're looking to beat your personal record (and feel good while doing it), try out Steve Stonehouse, an NASM-certified personal trainer, and Courtney Braun's, an ACSM-certified personal trainer, cross-training exercises ahead about two to three times a week, alternating with the days you run.
Squat Jumps
- Start in a standing position with your feet shoulder-width apart.
- Bend at the knees as you sit your hips back and down to at least knee height. Your weight should be on your heels.
- Explode back up into a jump before returning to a squat position.
- Repeat this movement until you've completed 20 squat jumps.
Side Lunge and Knee Drive
- From a standing position, step your right foot out to the side, bend your right knee, and sit your hips back and down. Your left leg should be extended out to the left side.
- Squeeze your quads and glutes and press through that same right foot to propel yourself back up.
- In one fluid motion, bend and drive that right knee up in front of you and toward your chest as you stand on the left leg.
- Return to the side lunge position. Repeat this series 10 times on your right leg before performing 10 reps on your left leg.
Curtsy Lunge and Oblique Crunch
- From a standing position, take a long step back and across the midline of your body with your right foot - bend both knees 90 degrees to perform a lunge.
- Standing back up, lift your right knee up and out to the side while crunching your torso in one fluid motion before returning to your curtsy lunge position.
- Complete 10 reps on your right leg before performing 10 rounds on your left side.
Glute Bridges
- Lay down on your back, bend your knees, and bring your heels in close to your glutes.
- Drive your heels into the ground and push your hips up, squeezing your glutes - your upper back should stay on the ground.
- Lower your hips back to the floor and repeat for 20 rounds.
Supermans
- Lay down on your stomach with your arms outstretched in front of you.
- Squeezing the muscles around your lower back and your glutes, lift your chest and arms up off the ground. Then, slowly lower them back down to the floor.
- Repeat for 20 rounds.
Push-Ups
- From a plank position with your hands slightly wider than shoulder-width apart, lower yourself toward the ground by bending your elbows 90-degrees. Then, push yourself back up.
- Complete 20 reps.

Ralph Fiennes stars as the "Duke of Oxford," who appears to be leading the very first iteration of the secret, independent intelligence agency we now know and love, while Gemma Arterton, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Matthew Goode, Tom Hollander, and Djimon Hounsou round out the rest of the cast.
As far as plot is concerned, we'll get to see what spurs the formation of the Kingsman: history's most infamous tyrants and criminal masterminds decide to team up to plot a war that will kill millions of people. (It's not Samuel L. Jackson creating evil cell phones or Julianne Moore putting dudes in a meat grinder, but we'll take it.) The new trailer builds on the story we were introduced to in the two teasers, which were released last summer. But while the second trailer starts with a sweeping view of a war-torn battleground, before quickly descending into a mishmash of epic fighting scenes, soundtracked with equally epic music - the third trailer jumps straight into the action.

Keegan-Michael Key, comedian, actor, and man who misses sports as much as the rest of us, got three-and-a-half minutes for an ESPYs skit and crammed into it as many Olympic athletes - and medals - as possible. The goal was simple, but steep: to get 150 medals on one single video call.
No easy feat, but it helps when you bring in the heavy hitters. Simone Biles, Allyson Felix, Mikaela Shiffrin, Simone Manuel, Gabby Douglas, Mary Lou Retton, and other legendary Olympians all joined in with medals in hand. Keegan-Michael Key, comedian, actor, and man who misses sports as much as the rest of us, got three-and-a-half minutes for an ESPYs skit and crammed into it as many Olympic athletes - and medals - as possible. The goal was simple, but steep: to get 150 medals on one single video call.
No easy feat, but it helps when you bring in the heavy hitters. Simone Biles, Allyson Felix, Mikaela Shiffrin, Simone Manuel, Gabby Douglas, Mary Lou Retton, and other legendary Olympians all joined in with medals in hand. Sabrina Ionescu became a bona fide basketball superstar at the University of Oregon, but her senior year - and her last chance at an NCAA championship - was cut short by the pandemic. The same thing happened at schools across the country, depriving thousands of student-athletes of their long-awaited senior season. In a touching video at this year's ESPYs, NFL quarterback Tom Brady and Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts honored Ionescu, Michigan State basketball star Cassius Winston, and all other high school and college seniors who lost out on their final season.
"I know what you were thinking when you came back to school this year," Roberts opened the segment, speaking to Ionescu and Winston. "You came back because you wanted to win." The accompanying highlight reel showed some of the athletes' greatest moments, spotlighting Ionescu's 2,000 points, 1,000 assists, and 1,000 career rebounds at Oregon - she's the first player in NCAA Division I history to reach all three benchmarks. "Everything was coming together, until your last shot got taken away." Winston and Ionescu, she went on, were just two of the many seniors "who missed out on what should've been one of the greatest years of your lives."
Despite the disappointment, Ionescu (the No. 1 pick in this year's WNBA draft) and Winston, along with their fellow graduating seniors, are still only at the beginning of their careers. Roberts closed by offering advice for finding closure and moving forward: "Never forget [your senior season]," she said. "Never stop chasing what you lost. And use your loss to make an even bigger impact than you ever thought possible."
