There's a Theory That Dead to Me Is a Grace and Frankie Prequel and . . . We're Into It
After binge-watching the morbidly dark, buddy comedy Dead To Me in its entirety, I craved another strong female relationship, but without the homicidal subplot. Naturally, that desire led me to another Netflix original, Grace and Frankie. A striking similarity between the lead characters of both series made me wonder if Netflix is secretly making their own Marvel-esque universe. Certainly, Netflix has built a culture within its original content by recycling familiar actors in new releases, and even cross-promoting on shows (cue To All The Boys I've Loved Before star Lana Condor crashing an episode of Nailed It!). While it may seem far-fetched to link the happy-go-lucky lives of Grace and Frankie to Dead To Me's Jen and Judy, here are five reasons why it isn't totally impossible.
1. Identical Personalities
Jen (Christina Applegate) is a strong-willed, uneven tempered blonde with killer looks. Grace (Jane Fonda) is exactly the same, plus a few decades. Both women have a sharp tongue used most often to criticize the hippie antics of their best friends. Jen and Grace both begrudgingly befriended a brunette flower child with a minor marijuana habit. Frankie (Lily Tomlin) and Judy (Linda Cardellini) follow their hearts, guided by spiritual connections to the universe and soul-soothing crystals. While Judy and Frankie's organic, quirky auras provide comic relief in each show, they also balance Grace and Jen's coarse personalities.
2. An Affinity for the Beach
Both shows make a point of flaunting the wealth of their locations and proximity to beach life. Jen and Judy call Laguna beach home, but who's to say they didn't relocate to sunny San Diego years later, and change their names to Grace and Frankie? Jen built her career on selling multi-million dollar beach homes, and Grace was very adamant about keeping the beach house after her divorce. One Reddit thread even noted that the shows may use the same sets. Coincidence? I think not.
3. Judy and Frankie's Infertility
A major plot line in Dead To Me's first season is Judy's struggle to conceive and carry a child to term. After experiencing five miscarriages, she had nearly given up her dream of becoming a mother. After an assumed pregnancy scare, Judy learns that she is no longer able to become pregnant. Frankie has two adopted sons, and also struggled to conceive with her ex-husband, Sol (Sam Waterston).
4. Grace and Jen's Unhealthy Relationships
Both Grace and Jen have a tendency to stay in unhappy relationships for far too long. Jen and her husband were at each other's throats constantly before he died, and it was later revealed that he had been having an affair for over a year. Grace's husband also had an affair for twenty years, citing her lack of love for him as a reason for straying. Grace admitted to never truly being happy with him, and Jen often berates herself for not leaving her husband when things got rough. If Grace is future Jen, it seems that some old habits don't die.
5. Connected by the Men in Their Lives
The death of Jen's husband brought her to Judy, and the death of Judy's ex-fiancee forever bonded her to Jen. Even when the two have a falling out, they are always brought back together by the secrets they share about their deceased partners. Grace and Frankie hated each other, only connected by their husbands' law partnership. When that law partnership blossomed into something more, the two women were forced together, inevitably falling into an enviable friendship. In both shows, the friends regularly swear each other off, only for their shared circumstances to push them back into each others' good graces by the next episode.

Summer Walker and Usher took us on a cotton candy-colored trip back in time with their passionate performance at the 2020 BET Awards on Sunday. The duo performed a stripped-down version of their song "Come Thru" in front of cloudy pastel backgrounds that evoke the '90s in the most nostalgic way possible.
Walker opened the performance with her song "Session 32," which she sang barefoot on a stool in front of a lounge-themed set - complete with a lit candle on the coffee table - while playing the electric guitar, and it really doesn't get more '90s than that. Usher soon joined Walker to harmonize on "Come Thru" for a performance that was soulful, romantic, and soothing in the best possible way. In case you were wondering, there isn't a situation in which Chloe x Halle won't deliver an incredible performance. And they did it again for the 2020 BET Awards! The sister duo virtually performed their latest singles, "Forgive Me" and "Do It," replicating the sets from each music video for their performance. The resulting video takes us from a dark and sensual jungle to a latex red room where there's no escape, but we're OK with that. The performance streamed on YouTube as part of Global Citizen's virtual event, Global Goal: Unite For Our Future. The celebrity appearances (Chloe x Halle, Jennifer Hudson, and John Legend showed up too) were to encourage a hopeful future and raise money for the fight against COVID-19, as well as support the Black Lives Matter movement and take a stand against the social injustices in our country.

Watch Every Powerful Performance From the Global Goal: Unite For Our Future Event
Artists and activists came together on Saturday for the Global Goal: Unite For Our Future event. The two-hour virtual assembly, hosted by Global Citizen and Dwayne Johnson, featured discussions with political, social justice, and healthcare leaders who explored a series of topics regarding COVID-19 and its demographic impact on the world and the scientific field. Celebrities who took part in the conversations included Billy Porter, Charlize Theron, Naomi Campbell, Olivia Colman, and Salma Hayek. This is the second Global Citizen forum of its kind, following the One World: Together at Home global remote concert that broadcasted in April.
In true Global Citizen fashion, there were a handful of powerful performances. Jennifer Hudson started the event with a gorgeous rendition of Gladys Knight & the Pips' "Where Peaceful Waters Flow," followed by John Legend's performance of "Bigger Love." Other standout sets included Chloe x Halle's striking staging of their song "ROYL" and Miley Cyrus's fervid cover of the Beatles' "Help!". While the actual 2020 Eurovision Song Contest may have been canceled due to COVID-19, it doesn't feel like we've missed much thanks to Netflix's Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, which was released on June 26. Thanks to a number of cameos from real Eurovision stars, the "song-a-long" that happens during the middle of the film truly embodies what makes the Eurovision Song Contest great: the music.
It's clear from how the song-a-long is shot that the highlighted singers are important, yet to an audience unfamiliar with Eurovision - since only countries that are part of the European Broadcasting Union can participate - they come across as a group of fabulous yet unfamiliar talent. Artists and activists came together on Saturday for the Global Goal: Unite For Our Future event. The two-hour virtual assembly, hosted by Global Citizen and Dwayne Johnson, featured discussions with political, social justice, and healthcare leaders who explored a series of topics regarding COVID-19 and its demographic impact on the world and the scientific field. Celebrities who took part in the conversations included Billy Porter, Charlize Theron, Naomi Campbell, Olivia Colman, and Salma Hayek. This is the second Global Citizen forum of its kind, following the One World: Together at Home global remote concert that broadcasted in April.
In true Global Citizen fashion, there were a handful of powerful performances. Jennifer Hudson started the event with a gorgeous rendition of Gladys Knight & the Pips' "Where Peaceful Waters Flow," followed by John Legend's performance of "Bigger Love." Grab 2 Dumbbells and Get Ready to Crush This 20-Minute Full-Body Strength Training Workout
Twenty minutes may not sound like enough time to get in a quality workout, but this 20-minute full-body workout is going to have your muscles quivering once it's over. "This full-body workout is a great way to help you build muscle with a combination of upper- and lower-body compound lifts," Stephanie Sanzo, a VFA-certified and Sweat app trainer - and creator of the BUILD and LIFTING at Home program - told POPSUGAR.
Because this is a circuit-style workout, you're going to be challenged aerobically in addition to challenging your strength. This workout is for all levels, and Sanzo recommends beginners complete three rounds of each circuit, and those who are more advanced to complete five rounds of each circuit. Grab some water, a towel, and your weights because it's time to put in work!

Equipment needed: a set of medium-weight dumbbells - here's a guide on how to choose the right weight. Before getting started, make sure you adequately warm your body up – here's a dynamic warmup we like. This 20-minute work consists of two, total-body circuits containing three exercises each.
Complete the designated reps for all three exercises in circuit one, taking little to no rest in between each exercise, then take 30 seconds of rest once the circuit is complete. Repeat for a total of three rounds before advancing to circuit two. - Circuit 1, exercise 1: reverse lunge: 20 reps

Nickelodeon's Baby Shark Series Is Coming in 2021, but a Holiday Special Will Air in December!
If you thought the "Baby Shark" song craze was eventually going to tire itself out, you were very, very wrong. Nickelodeon announced in June 2019 that it had an animated Baby Shark TV show in the works, and we can now confirm that the preschool series, titled Baby Shark's Big Show!, will debut this December with a holiday special, followed by an official premiere in spring 2021!
The animated series, which is coproduced by Nickelodeon and SmartStudy - the company behind the brand Pinkfong - will have 26 30-minute episodes in its first season. The show will center around Baby Shark and his best friend William, who go on exciting and funny adventures in Carnivore Cove, where they live. And of course, there will be extremely catchy songs throughout (what would a Baby Shark show be without the music?!).
"Having the opportunity to dive deeper into this incredible world and create all-new storylines has been extremely exciting, and our head of preschool Eryk Casemiro and his team can't wait to help grow the Baby Shark universe and fanbase with an amazing new series that captures the heart and spirit of this beloved property," said Ramsey Naito, executive vice president, Nickelodeon Animation.
And this isn't the only airtime Baby Shark might be getting! Netflix announced in January 2019 that it is also developing a children's show inspired by the song, so we're eagerly awaiting further details.
Although spring 2021 feels far away, we already know that pulling our kids away from the screen will be nearly impossible. Thank goodness for the holiday special coming in December, which we are poised and ready to set our DVRs for!

Beyoncé had the Beyhive buzzing with joy on Saturday after the singer revealed the forthcoming release of her visual album, Black Is King. In a one-minute teaser, a montage of beautiful odes to African culture plays as Beyoncé declares, "The ancestors never left you." The project is based on the music from Bey's 2019 LP The Lion King: The Gift, which she dropped in conjunction with the release of Disney's The Lion King live-action remake. In the film, the songstress voiced the fierce Nala alongside Donald Glover's Simba.
"Black Is King is a celebratory memoir for the world on the Black experience," Disney and Beyoncé's Parkwood Entertainment said in a statement. "The film is a story for the ages that informs and rebuilds the present. A reunion of cultures and shared generational beliefs. A story of how the people left most broken have an extraordinary gift and a purposeful future." The project - written, directed, and executive produced by Bey - will premiere on Disney+ on July 31. In anticipation of the visual album, go ahead and blast Bey's latest song, "Black Parade," as well as The Lion King: The Gift.
