Forget the Cake, These Massive Candle Centerpieces Were Made to Light Up Any Party
Annie Lindsley (pictured above) loves to celebrate people. For her daughter Olive's first birthday, she wanted to find something special that would allow her two sons to also participate in the typical "blowing out the candles" tradition. Inspired by a German Waldorf ring, she decided to take matters into her own hands. The result? A massive candle centerpiece that she knew "would be a hit with our kids!"
Her personal creation became a business idea, and thus, Aglow was born. The Utah-based company now sells the giant bases and candles together or separately, for those looking to add a little light to their next party. And let's face it, they make a pretty incredible Insta opportunity.
Lindsley told POPSUGAR she's received an "outpouring of support from people all over the USA and globally" since launching the centerpiece. She's seen it used for birthdays, baby showers, graduations, and holidays. While social distancing means parties are off the table for most Americans right now, her creations are also a fun way to spice up family-only events or mark special moments at home. "It has been fun to see all of the different ways people have chosen to celebrate with Aglow," she said.
Although the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted Aglow (like many small businesses), Lindsley has still found a silver lining in giving people something special for their homes. Lindsley is busy preparing to launch a new product later this year, but in the meantime, she hopes to "continue to share our love of celebration, light, and traditions" through Aglow. Keep reading to see the beautiful centerpieces up-close.
These Bear Paw Succulents Have Fuzzy Leaves You’ll Want to Pet With Your Bear Hands
If you're a fan of cute plant babies like teeny-tiny cacti or pretty rose succulents, we have another option to round out your collection: succulents with fuzzy green leaves shaped like bear paws. Officially called cotyledon tomentos, but better known as bear paw succulents, these little fellas are sure to add a little fun and coziness to your space.

And if you're like me and just can't seem to keep a plant alive, you'll be happy to learn that bear paws are relatively easy to care for and can grow up to 12 inches tall, which makes for the perfect statement-making house plant.
Though bear paw succulents are quite peculiar, you can find a wide range of the popular greenery on Etsy. I never thought that I'd be itching to pet a succulent, but scrolling through pictures of these cute house plants have certainly changed my mind. Get a closer look at bear paw succulents below.

How to Safely and Effectively Work Out in a Face Mask, Straight From Doctors and Trainers
With the weather getting warmer and gyms reopening in many parts of the country, you may understandably be anxious to get back to your workout routine. Of course, like everything else, exercising during COVID-19 is different than what we're accustomed to. Experts recommend wearing a face mask while exercising if you're at a gym or on an outdoor path where you may encounter other bikers and joggers, and it's an adjustment, to say the least. POPSUGAR spoke with doctors and trainers to learn how you can get in those miles and reps without sacrificing your safety.
1. Consult a Doctor If You Have Any Underlying Conditions
Tista Ghosh, MD, senior medical director and epidemiologist for Grand Rounds, told POPSUGAR that for most people it is safe to exercise while wearing a face mask - and it's part of your responsibility to keep your community safe and prevent the spread of COVID-19. However, if you have underlying medical issues, like cardiovascular or respiratory conditions, Dr. Ghosh recommends consulting your primary care doctor about "the safest way to work out and how to best wear a mask when doing so."
2. Use a Lightweight Mask
Dr. Ghosh cautioned against using N95 or surgical masks to work out. She noted that these masks could make your workout much more difficult and should be saved for medical use. "Instead, look for lightweight, cloth masks that fit snugly but comfortably against the side of your face. Leaks or gaps can reduce a mask's effectiveness," Dr. Ghosh said. "Cloth masks can be laundered and machine dried without damage or change to the shape, which is important. You should never exercise in a dirty mask."
Many small businesses and sports brands are now selling face masks that are specifically designed for running - they're more breathable but still provide protection. Dr. Ghosh recommends using one of these masks if possible. "The tolerability of a mask is often impacted by breathability, heat buildup inside the mask, skin irritation from rough materials, and difficulties in talking," she explained. Dr. Ghosh suggests wearing the face mask at home and jogging in place or trying some jumping jacks to test out how comfortable it is before you head to the gym or hit the trails.
3. Take It Slow and Listen to Your Body
Reuben Elovitz, MD, internist and CEO at Private Health Dallas, stressed the importance of starting at a slow pace. Your body isn't accustomed to working out with a facial covering, which can restrict how much oxygen you're getting, and it may take time for you to get comfortable exercising this way. "Some people are going to have some degree of feeling that you were overexerting yourself," Dr. Elovitz told POPSUGAR. "Once you feel like you're pushing yourself too hard, then you need to take a few minutes and then reset at a lower intensity."
Dr. Ghosh added that you should "pay attention to any dizziness, lightheadedness, or shortness of breath." If you experience any of these symptoms, take a break from the workout until you've fully recovered. If they're a frequent occurrence, it's best to stick to exercises like yoga, Pilates, or lower-intensity workouts.
4. Set Reasonable Expectations
"Be kind [to yourself]," said Stephanie Abrams, an NASM-certified personal trainer based in Los Angeles. Don't be discouraged if you jump in and find that you're not training at the same level as you were before. Abrams noted that, in addition to wearing a mask and going a while without access to gym equipment, "your body, mind, and heart are going through a lot more stressors."
Kelly Bryant, an NASM-certified personal trainer and founder of Kelly Bryant Wellness, recommends erring on the side of caution and trading really intense workouts for light- to moderate-intensity forms of exercise. She also suggests using mechanisms other than heart rate to measure intensity. "Heart rate metrics will be inaccurate because something is covering our mouths, making it more difficult to breathe," she explained. Instead, Bryant's suggests using the "talk test." While doing moderate-intensity exercise, you should be able to speak but struggle to get out full sentences. During lighter workouts, your ability to speak shouldn't be hindered at all.
"Prioritize safety rather than the perfect workout regimen, especially as we're just starting to return to public gyms," Bryant said. If you can't wait to take your mask off once your workout is complete, make sure you're outdoors before you do so.
5. Take Frequent Breaks
"I can't stress this enough," said Abrams, emphasizing that now is not the time to focus on personal records or reach for heavier weights. "Check in with what your body needs," she advised. "Use this as an opportunity to listen and get to know yourself better."
And if you're frustrated by the limitations of training with a mask, Abrams recommends reminding yourself of the bigger picture. You're helping yourself and others by doing your part to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Plus, she says there's a silver lining to these adjusted workouts: "It's like training at altitude. [It's] tough, but you can do it."
I Swapped My Morning Coffee For This Collagen Beverage, and It Gave Me Energy For Hours
If living the last four months staying home and social distancing has taught me anything, it's that I'm not exactly a morning person. Sure, when I wake up early and go for a walk or get in a workout before logging on for the workday, I feel more energized and productive. The problem? I can never get up early enough. I've overcompensated for this fact drinking way too much coffee. Like, the equivalent of a Big Gulp from 7-Eleven amount of coffee, which is not exactly great for my anxiety. Coffee can be healthy for you, sure, but consuming too much caffeine has trapped me in this cycle of not being able to fall asleep > sleeping in > trying to wake myself up with too much coffee, and repeat. (Not to mention the unpleasant GI symptoms I experience from drinking too much coffee. But I digress.)
I'm not ready to give up my caffeine habit just yet, but I could definitely cut back. That's why I was so excited to try Vital Proteins new drink: Morning Get Up and Glow ($30). I'm already a fan of Vital Proteins and add the unflavored collagen powder to my morning coffee or drink the matcha collagen as an afternoon pick-me-up. But when I read up on this beverage as a morning energy and beauty boost, I was intrigued.
Morning Get Up and Glow is made with 10 grams of collagen peptides per scoop, which translates to nine grams of protein per serving, which is satisfying when I'm not hungry for a big breakfast. It also has biotin for skin and nail health, 600% of your daily value of vitamin C, and 90 milligrams of caffeine, which is about as much as a cup of coffee. It comes in powder form, which easily dissolves in cold water with the help of my mini mixer stick (I'm obsessed with this thing).
That's all well and good, but how does it taste? Morning Get Up and Glow is a light and refreshing citrus taste that's not too overwhelming; there's only one gram of sugar and it's sweetened with monk fruit, so it doesn't have that artificial sweetener aftertaste. It reminds me of a tastier Emergen-C without the effervescence. Pro tip: mix it with eight ounces of orange juice in the morning for even more vitamin C and a richer flavor.
I'm not ready to give up coffee entirely just yet, but Vital Proteins Morning Get Up and Glow is definitely a healthy replacement with a moderate amount of caffeine for when I want to cut back. After just one cup, I still had energy and focus throughout the morning without all the nasty GI side effects. I'm excited to add this into my rotation of Vital Proteins collagen drinks. If powdered drinks aren't your thing, Morning Get Up and Glow is also sold in capsule form ($30 for 60 capsules). Since I already take so many vitamins, I'll stick to the beverage.

A Royal Scrapbook of All the Birthday Portraits Kate Middleton Has Snapped of Her Family
The British royal family are known for their many traditions. While most of them are pretty formal and require certain protocol, there's one simple yet sweet tradition in particular that we look forward to every year: Kate Middleton's family birthday portraits. To commemorate a royal's special day, the palace typically releases a new batch of portraits, giving the public a more intimate glimpse at their personal life. Usually, a photographer is hired to snap these palace-approved photos, but ever since, Princess Charlotte's first birthday in 2016, the Duchess of Cambridge has put her photography skills to use and made it a tradition to take these portraits for Charlotte, Prince George, and Prince Louis.
Most recently, she shared some adorable snaps of Prince William playing with their kids for his 38th birthday, and with George turning 7 on July 22, we can only imagine the cuteness that awaits us. Ahead, take a look at all the precious birthday portraits Kate has shared of her family over the years.

Please Enjoy This Very Fascinating Behind-the-Scenes Video About the Making of Floor Is Lava
Floor Is Lava is one of the best new shows added to Netflix in 2020. And by best, we mean most ridiculous. The competition show, inspired by an age-old game played by kids in their living rooms, has groups of three make their way through themed obstacles courses surrounded entirely by treacherous lava - or, you know, some sort of mystery goo. Nearly a month after the show's arrival, Netflix shared a fascinating video detailing how the show and its sets came together.
For starters, a production village and test space was set up in a former Ikea. Then, over the course of six weeks, the various sets were built by a construction team, with each and every prop being built from scratch, hand-painted, and tested for safety. Certain parts of the course were also set up in a pool in the parking lot, where stunt people of varying skills and physical abilities would give them a shot.
As for the lava, the production team got help from the chemistry lab responsible for a lot of the slime shown in Alien or Ghostbusters. A special effects team also rigged various contraptions to make the lava bubble up during inopportune times for contestants. As a result, nearly 2,000 towels were used a day to clean up the edges of the set. Our favorite tidbit, however, might be the fact that contestants initially thought they were applying for a show called Devil's Run. (That's probably coming to Netflix in 2021, right?) Watch the video above to learn more Floor Is Lava production secrets.
Bella Hadid Gets in Touch With Her Inner Mermaid For Calvin Klein's Swimwear Campaign
Bella Hadid dives to new depths in Calvin Klein's dreamy underwater swimwear campaign. "Heaven to be able to work in the water," the model wrote on Instagram referencing her pre-COVID photoshoot from "almost a year ago" - back when it was the norm to scout locations and enlist the help of massive teams. Nowadays, at-home photoshoots are more typical, but that won't stop us from admiring Calvin Klein's latest designs.
Bella joined models Conor Fay, Malika El Masiouhi and Solange van Doorn at a home in upstate New York to show off the bold swimwear selections for photographer Charlotte Wales. The collection includes standout logo banding along each playful suit, while still maintaining their classic styling. The brand told POPSUGAR that Bella "loved all of the brightly colored neon pieces," so we wouldn't be surprised if she kept a few for herself. There's nothing like watching a movie or TV show and thinking, "Wow, I can totally relate to the lead's experiences." For Latinas in the US, this isn't necessarily the case that often, because we barely see ourselves represented in the main characters. It's so important and necessary to see more Latinas showcased in a strong and positive role, rather than just as the submissive maid, or the heavily accented comedic relief.
That's why we've rounded up 5 movies and TV shows with a strong Latina leads that you can stream on Canela.TV, the new minority and women-owned service that provides free access to unique, culturally relevant content for Hispanics and Latinx. From groundbreaking women, to boss ladies, this selection will provide new role models Latinas - and women in general - can look up to. Keep scrolling to find more.

Lucifer Is Back in a Season 5 Trailer Full of Brotherly Woes, Butts, and Lots of Hellfire
It's finally here! The trailer for the fifth - and not so final - season of Lucifer has finally arrived, and the two-minute video is packed with delicious surprises. Welcome the latest member of Lucifer's family to make their onscreen appearance: Michael, his twin brother!
Instead of everyone's favorite fallen angel making his return to Los Angeles after leaving for Hell in season four, it's Michael who makes his grand entrance under the guise of being his brother. Michael holds a grudge against Lucifer and plans to usurp the latter's life on the mortal plane as payback. He must be the younger brother. There's no telling how long Michael plays the role of his brother, but when Lucifer finally makes his way back topside, it's far from a happy reunion. And of course, the rest of the cast has to deal with their shenanigans as well as their own life: Chloe seems to have serious misgivings about romance, Ella finally finds a nice guy, and Amenadiel adjusts to the whole fatherhood thing. It's definitely going to be a fiery season!
Watch the trailer above, and take a first look at the special noir episode from the upcoming season before Lucifer returns on Aug. 21.
This Artist Smashes Stereotypes by Giving Men Superheroes a Sexy, Pinup-Style Makeover
In David Talaski-Brown's mind, Thor doesn't wear a red cape and full-body armor - he rocks a pink polka-dot robe, green Hulk slippers, and, well, that's about it. Portland-based artist David is flipping the script with men superheroes, giving them a sexy makeover as a nod to the way scantily clad women superheroes are traditionally depicted.
"There's always been a lack of sexy male art on comic convention floors," he told POPSUGAR. "I thought this would be a fun way to create some equal opportunity when I tabled at my first convention last year. I've always been a big fan of midcentury pinup artists like Gil Elvgren, and the idea of putting male superheroes in similar poses and situations typically portrayed with women felt appropriate and cheeky."
And cheeky they are! David's illustrations, which he paints digitally using the Procreate app on his iPad before adding the finishing touches in Photoshop, show a whole lotta skin, and sometimes even subtle peeks at the character's derriere. David's art has garnered positive reactions far and wide - so much so that his Etsy shop, which sells prints of his sexy men superheroes, is constantly selling out. Ahead, admire David's unique depictions of Star-Lord, T'Challa, Doctor Strange, and more. Our fingers are crossed for sexy Spider-Man and Hulk portraits soon!

Sports Illustrated's Swimsuit Cover Is Here, and Chainlink Swimwear Has Never Looked So Appealing
Sports Illustrated's annual Swimsuit Issue cover is revealed with Kate Bock, Olivia Culpo, and Jasmine Sanders on the cover. All three women, who are on the cover for the first time, were shot by longtime SI photographer Yu Tsai in Bali. In addition to their triple shot, where the supermodels wear black swimwear with gold chainlink details, they also each have their own single covers, and we've got details on all their amazing bikinis and one-pieces after the jump.
Sports Illustrated's Swimsuit Issue editor-in-chief MJ Day commented on the decision to feature Kate, Olivia, and Jasmine in a press release, explaining, "These three women that make up the 2020 cover are inherently unique in many ways, but a solidarity exists among them in terms of their ambitions, goals and what they stand for," noting Jasmine's strong platform where she advocates for social justice, Olivia's recent MoreThanAMask initiative, and Kate's dedication to her mental health and wellness work. "These women are limitless, unstoppable and collectively represent the next wave of moguls to come out of the franchise."
The 58th installment of this issue celebrates diversity and includes athletes, entrepreneurs, mothers, and models, many of whom are rookies, such as Valentina Sampaio and Marquita Pring, who we were excited to see included. A total of 33 women (in addition to Kate, Olivia, and Jasmine) are featured throughout: Anita Marshall, Anne DePaula, Brooks Nader, Camille Kostek, Caroline Marks, Courtney Conlogue, Danielle Herrington, Emily DiDonato, Haley Kalil, Halima Aden, Hunter McGrady, Hyunjoo Hwang, Josephine Skriver, Kelsey Merritt, Kim Riekenberg, Lorena Duran, Malia Manuel, Marquita Pring, Myla Dalbesio, Olivia Brower, Robin Holzken, Samantha Hoopes, Valentina Sampaio and Vita Sidorkina, along with the six Swim Search finalists: Brielle Anyea, Christie Valdiserri, Clarissa Bowers, Jamea Byrd, Kathy Jacobs and Tanaye White.
Scroll down to catch another glimpse of the cover, on sale July 21, along with the three individual covers, and find all the style notes we know you'll appreciate in the captions.
