Hunter Schafer Talks Fashion and Defying "Cisgendered Standards" of Beauty on Euphoria

While we're all still waiting for the second season of Euphoria to drop, Hunter Schafer and costume designer Heidi Bivens teamed up for a video to discuss the stories behind our favorite looks. In the conversation, the pair discussed the close collaboration between Heidi and the actors, as well as the process for sourcing clothing, which Heidi says was at least 50 percent vintage for the women cast. Hunter, who was actually preparing to go to fashion school before snagging her role on the HBO series, often worked with Heidi to customize and perfect her character Jules's style.

Heidi explained that she saw Euphoria, which was recently nominated for an Emmy for its outstanding contemporary costumes, as an important opportunity to "portray young people in a way that hadn't been seen before," and worked closely with Hunter, Zendaya, and Alexa Demie to curate their characters' looks in a real way. More specifically, she discussed collaborating with Hunter to find intimate garments that the transgender actress felt comfortable wearing.

"There's a lot of power in seeing a young trans girl not trying to conform to a cisgendered standard in that way."

"I think it's so special to take into account the actor's opinion, at least with a show like this, where some actors have bodies that aren't necessarily the 'norm,'" Hunter said. "And also particularly because we were going to be seeing Jules in her underwear, and I had been thinking about whether or not I wanted to be tucked for some of the shots. . . There's a lot of power in seeing a young trans girl not trying to conform to a cisgendered standard in that way."

The costume designer added that when she was sourcing clothing for season one of the show, she could only find one designer who was making "the kind of intimate garments [she] wanted," but while prepping for season two, she felt it was much easier to gather the items she needed. "So we're evolving as humans," she said. Watch their conversation in full above and look back on the first season's incredible style moments.

Selena Gomez Remixed a Classic Ice Cream Flavor With a Blackpink-Inspired Cookie Twist

In celebration of her upcoming "Ice Cream" collaboration with Blackpink, Chef Selena Gomez has put a sweet twist on a classic ice cream flavor. The Cookies & Cream Remix ice cream, made in partnership with Serendipity Brands, is a mix of pink vanilla ice cream, cookie chunks, and gooey gobs of Moose Tracks chocolate fudge. "So, basically, it's heaven," Selena said in a promo video on her Instagram introducing the new flavor to the world.

"For the Cookies & Cream remix, I wanted to put my own personal spin on this classic flavor by making it with pink vanilla ice cream as a nod to my girls BLACKPINK and celebrate our new song 'Ice Cream,'" Selena added in a press release. The play on Blackpink's name with the pink ice cream and dark cookie chunks is definitely fun, but I'm going to skip the "eating with my eyes" bit and go straight to digging in with the biggest spoon I can find once I get my hands on a pint.

Cookies & Cream Remix will be available beginning Aug. 28 for $6 per pint in supermarkets, convenience stores, and other food retailers nationwide. The frozen dessert will also be available online at SerendipityBrands.com. In the meantime, see how Selena transforms the new flavor into a delicious-looking chocolate sundae, and take a peek at what it'd be like if Selena had her own ice cream truck ahead.

LOL, LA Clipper Kawhi Leonard's Daughter Has Slept Through Her Dad's Victory Parade

Los Angeles Clippers player Kawhi Leonard is one of the greats in the NBA right now, but he's also incredibly private and extremely low key. He's won two NBA championships - with the San Antonio Spurs and the Toronto Raptors - and earned Finals MVP status both times, but outside of basketball, Kawhi pretty much keeps to himself. The Los Angeles native has been dating his girlfriend, Kishele Shipley, for years, and they're already parents. However, neither uses social media, so we don't know a whole lot about their family. See - low key!

In 2016, Kawhi and Kishele welcomed their daughter Kaliyah. The little girl has made a few public appearances with her mom at games and other sporting events. She even very famously slept through the Toronto Raptors victory parade in Summer 2019. Though her dad was named Finals MVP, this little one couldn't be bothered. She slept right through all the hullabaloo with her parents at her side.

Kawhi and Kishele had their second baby in April 2019, a son, though there are no confirmed reports of the little one's name. Kawhi hasn't spoken much about the little guy, but according to Narcity, after moving from the Raptors to the Clippers, Kawhi mentioned his son in a press conference. He thanked Toronto for allowing him to play there and he also thanked the fans and the doctors who delivered his son a few months prior. So his son was definitely born in Canada!

We got a glimpse of the baby during the 2020 NBA All Star Weekend when Kawhi, Kishele, Kaliyah, and the baby were taking photos behind the scenes. Kishele's holding the little one while they take photos before Kaliyah marches up to her dad and asks why he's always wearing that - pointing to his basketball uniform. Kids, we love 'em! You can also see a few snippets of Kawhi holding his son in these videos from All Star Weekend as well. But we don't need many photos to know that Kawhi and Kishele have an adorable family!

Crispy, Gooey, and Chocolatey, Brownie Edge Pieces Are Undeniably the Best

Whether they're fudgy and rich or packed with chocolate and nuts, brownies are kind of the perfect dessert, if you ask me. They fill the house with an unmistakably mouthwatering scent and somehow manage to be crumbly and moist at the same time. Despite their sweet perfection, brownies do bring up one age-old question that has my family practically wrestling each other over the baking pan every time I whip up a batch: "What section of the brownie tray is the best?"

As someone who's eaten a lot of brownies in her life, I would never shy away from a wonderfully crunchy corner piece or an ooey gooey center piece hot out of the oven. But, when it comes down to it, edge pieces are the real star of the show. Often overlooked, edge pieces are a happy medium between the moist center and the crispy corners, adding just a little bit of crunch to the warm, chocolatey goodness.

I don't want to have to reach for a fork because it's too soft to eat with my hands; and I definitely don't want the sometimes overcooked corners that leave more crumbs on my shirt than in my mouth.

Now, my dad might argue that edge pieces are nothing compared to center pieces, which are clearly superior because they're cakey, soft, and melt in your mouth. Not to mention, the center pieces tend to be gold mines for mix-ins like chocolate chips, walnuts, or mini marshmallows. My mom, on the other hand, would say that corner pieces are truly where it's at, because what's dessert without a little bit of crunch? The crispy to soft edge ration is perfectly 50/50, and there are only four corner pieces for any batch of brownies, making them the rarest - and thereby tastiest - treat.

But, when I reach for a brownie, I don't want to have to grab a fork every time because it's too soft to eat with my hands; and I definitely don't want the sometimes overcooked corners that leave more crumbs on my shirt than in my mouth. I want a dessert that's mostly soft and gooey but that also has a little bit of crunch and substance to it. I want a dessert that's rich and chocolatey, but that doesn't fall apart in my hand. And, most of all, I want a brownie that makes me want to reach for a second piece ASAP. That's why I highly recommend two things for all edge brownie-lovers: this maze-like brownie pan that only make edge pieces and my go-to recipe for vegan almond butter brownie's by Simply Quinoa. The combination of the ingenious pan design and the moist brownie batter makes for perfect edges every time.

At the end of the day, all brownies - including blondies and slutty brownies - are delicious as long as they're made with a little bit of love. But, if you put a hot tray and a cold glass of milk in front of me, you can bet I'm reaching for an edge piece every time. Check out the full recipe ahead, and order an all-edge pan for yourself to create the ultimate edge piece brownies.

FYI Trader Joe's Has an Awesome Plant Selection, and the Prices Have Us Filling Our Carts

A trip to Trader Joe's always holds a fun surprise. Whether it's beauty products, adorable greeting cards, or monthly releases of new food items, there's always something exciting that the grocer has in store. One thing I look forward to most of all is its impressive plant selection. In addition to flowers, Trader Joe's also sells houseplants. While it's easy to skip over the leafy greens on a busy shopping day, you can typically spot them along the borders of the store or out front. And once you see them, you'll never forget that Trader Joe's sells plants again. Its selection holds a goldmine of greens that range from fiddle leaf figs to prickly pear cacti to peace lilies and trendy coffee plants, and it's all for a price that can't be rivaled. Even if my intentions are never to buy a plant, I usually end up picking one up, "because for that price, how couldn't I?" That's what I tell myself, anyway.

While its selection ranges seasonally and from store to store, there's usually at least one plant that'll be calling your name. Check out some of the best plants TJ's has ever sold ahead, and don't be afraid to pick one up on your next shopping trip!

Coffee Plants Are Comin' in Hot This Year, and Trader Joe's Is Selling Them For $8

ICYMI, Trader Joe's has an impressive houseplant and flower selection, and right now they're serving the hottest houseplant of 2020, the coffee plant, for what you'd easily spend on a couple lattes at Starbucks.

Forget high-maintenance and expensive plants like fiddle-leaf fig trees, the coffee plant is easy to care for and has vibrant and shiny leaves. It likes bright, indirect light and only needs watering every one to two weeks, depending on the season and how much light it gets. Just don't expect it to actually grow your morning cup of coffee, an indoor store-bought houseplant is unlikely to produce the berries that contain coffee beans, but if you give it enough time (like, years) and research how to optimize the conditions for harvesting, who knows!

I've personally had a difficult time getting my hands on a coffee plant from plant delivery services because they're so popular (plus the price at TJ's for the potted plant can't be beat), so head to your Trader Joe's before they sell out!

Prices and products may vary by Trader Joe's location.

Grab your broomsticks, LA-based Harry Potter fans! We've discovered a fun coffee shop for Potterheads to get their caffeine fix, and it goes by the name of Nimbus Coffee.

Located in the South Park neighborhood in downtown LA, Nimbus Coffee first opened its doors in June 2018 and welcomes all witches, wizards, warlocks, and even dogs to its enchanted property. Although it's not an official Harry Potter-owned property, its atmosphere sure feels like one. Filled with wizard celebrity portraits (the Albus Freeman one is too good), Hogwarts-bound trunks, and even a wall of magical wands, this cafe is an ideal destination for those with an imagination. Take an Instagram pic in front of its whimsical decor, and then open the menu to discover a list of magical drink options like the Mandrake Matcha (a spiced dark chocolate fudge and white vanilla bean matcha) and Witches Cold Brew (a coffee drink with oat milk, cold milk, and condensed spices), or order a sandwich or snack (like the Dark Arts pop tarts)! Due to COVID-19, Nimbus Coffee is currently only offering delivery and takeout orders, so show your support now and hopefully you'll be able to dine in their magical space when it's safe to.

These Pure Beauty Glow Face Masks Were the Key to My Self-Care Weekend

Some days you wake up feeling like your best self, and other days you wake up and wish you could hit the snooze button for all of eternity. This weekend I was feeling more evil stepsister than Cinderella, so I decided to give myself an at-home spa day. Sometimes you've just gotta make yourself some cucumber water in a fancy wine glass, put on a face mask that makes you look like Mrs. Doubtfire, and chill. And that's exactly what I did.

The heroes of this at-home spa day operation were two masks from Pure Beauty Glow: the Decongestant Sulfur Masque ($30), and the Hydrate Me Masque ($40). For the unfamiliar, Pure Beauty Glow is a skin-care line geared toward acne-prone skin created by aesthetician Sylvia Brownlee, who also owns a spa in Ohio by the same name. For those of us who can't get to her IRL, she created the brand as a way to achieve spa quality results at home, and I'm so thankful she did.

I've struggled with acne for years now, so finding products specifically geared toward combating breakouts always pique my interest. In fact, I had two big zits that seemingly appeared overnight on the right side of my face, so I decided to start there.

The Decongestant Sulfur Masque contains - you guessed it - sulfur, which dries up the blemish, plus bentonite and kaolin clay to absorb excess oil. I've tried clay masks in the past, but I typically avoid them because they leave my skin feeling tight and dry. However, desperate times call for new measures. After applying onto my clean skin, letting it sit for 10 minutes, and rinsing with warm water, my face felt anything but dry. This mask did a great job of cleansing my pores without stripping my skin of its natural oils, leaving it feeling soft and supple afterward. The best part? My pimples were already starting to look less red and angry.

My next step was the Hydrate Me Masque, which is recommended for all skin types. It combines aloe vera (to soothe), hyaluronic acid (to hydrate), and green tea extract's antioxidant benefits (to target dullness). I applied to my once again clean, dry skin and let it sit. The soft jelly-like texture had an instant soothing effect. I grabbed a book, sat back, and let the mask do its magic. After 30 minutes, I rinsed it off with cool water, and was immediately impressed with the results. It didn't leave my skin feeling greasy or sticky, but instead soft to the touch.

I have used both masks twice more since my impromptu spa day and I'll definitely continue using them weekly. The Hydrate Me Masque will also make a great holiday gift for my mom, who also struggles with super dry skin. (Here's hoping she doesn't read this before then.)

Milwaukee Brewers Lead the Way as MLB Players Sit Out Games After Jacob Blake's Shooting

MLB players are sitting out at least two games tonight, a decision made following the police shooting of Jacob Blake on Aug. 23. Blake was shot multiple times outside his car in Kenosha, WI, with his three children still in the vehicle. His father said the bullets severed Blake's spinal cord and shattered several vertebrae, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down.

The games being boycotted are the Cincinnati Reds and Milwaukee Brewers game at Miller Park in Milwaukee, and the Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres game at San Diego's Petco Park. According to MLB.com writer Adam McCalvy, the Brewers agreed unanimously to the boycott, which follows the Milwaukee Bucks' boycott of their playoff game earlier today. The Bucks' decision led to the NBA postponing all three playoff games on today's schedule.

Speaking about the Bucks' decision earlier today, Brewers pitcher Josh Hader called the boycott "an enormous stand. It's more than sports... This is a time where we need to, really, not stay quiet and show and empower our voices."

The MLB has yet to release a statement about the boycotted games or the fate of the league's other scheduled games, but ESPN's Jeff Passan reported that other teams were discussing sitting out as well.

In a joint statement, the Brewers and the Reds stated, "The players from the Brewers and Reds have decided to not play tonight's baseball game. With our community and our nation in such pain, we wanted to draw as much attention to the issues that really matter, especially racial injustice and systemic oppression."

On Twitter, Mariners second baseman Dee Gordon released a powerful statement as well. "There are serious issues in this country. For me, and for many of my teammates, the injustices, violence, death and systemic racism is deeply personal. This is impacting not only my community, but very directly my family and friends. Our team voted unanimously not to play tonight," he wrote. "Instead of watching us, we hope people will focus on the things more important than sports that are happening."
