If You Buy Any Skin-Care Product This Month, Make It One of These Editor-Approved Picks
Imagine a world in which you believe, like the swarm of people ardently waiting for Disneyland to reopen, that the "happiest place on earth" couldn't possibly be relegated to the four walls that make up your bathroom. That a night of uninterrupted self-care with the season's best skin-care products can't induce the same unadulterated magic. No, dear reader, you know far better than that.
In fact, if it's this month's skin-care concoctions we're talking about, there's much more enlightenment to be had. There are exfoliating scrubs that will get your blood flowing like a slide down Splash Mountain! Brightening serums that lend a better glow than the fireworks behind the illustrious Castle (and with results that last far longer than the allotted 16 minutes!). You might not get any face-time with good ol' Cinderella, but who needs that when you've got a bedtime facial oil that keeps working even after the clock strikes midnight?
To help you sort through the crowd, we've asked editors to share their favorite new treatments, cleansers, face moisturizers, and other skin-care products worth trying this month. Don't worry, we won't make you wait in line or anything.
15 Reusable Animal Face Masks That Are Protective, Yet Playful
On a recent visit to see my parents, we all put on our face masks and decided to head to the store. When my parents came to tell me they were ready, I burst into laugher. They were both wearing masks that had the print of a grizzly bear's mouth. My parents are the outdoorsy-type and love camping, so this was super on-brand for them.
During our store visit, I couldn't believe all the compliments they received on their masks; people were asking where they got them from. Turns out, my parents shop on Etsy, which was a shocking revelation. I decided this seemed to be a new mask trend for people who are looking for something both protective and fun. I went home and searched for animal face masks on Etsy and confirmed there was a ton of cute (and safe) options to wear. Ahead, I curated some choices that you can shop too. Take a look.
This Full-Body Workout With a Chair and Pair of Dumbbells Is a Trainer's "Sweat Therapy"
We know home workouts can be tough, but if 2020 has taught us anything about exercise, it's that sweat sessions in our living rooms (or any room, for that matter) really can work! Trainer and founder of Thick Athletics Lita Lewis is here with a routine that will work your entire body right at home, and all you need are a chair (a stool, bench, couch, or sturdy surface also could suffice) and a pair of dumbbells. Lewis uses 20-pound dumbbells but says to lift what you can - and if that means 10-pound weights, that's totally fine!
Lewis's full-body workout consists of seven compound exercises, which are movements that work large muscle groups at a time. Do 12 reps of each move - or 12 on each side - for three rounds. The moves are: sit squat and jump; Bulgarian split squat; single-leg Romanian deadlift (with your back foot elevated) and bicep curl; squat, curl, and press; alternating front lunge with Romanian deadlift; Romanian deadlift and bicep curl; and front row with alternating forward lunge.
Watch Lewis demonstrate the compound exercises in the Instagram slideshow above, and get ready to sweat. Lewis even calls this "sweat therapy," and we could definitely use some!
This 15-Minute Step Workout Is Easy on the Knees - But Will Seriously Make You Sweat
From dumbbells to booty bands to treadmills, turning your living room into your personal fitness studio can be a journey packed with product research. We hope you don't mind, though, because we have yet another to add to your shopping list: an aerobic stepper.
According to NASM-certified personal trainer Jenna Langhans, steppers pack a whole lot of health and fitness power, including engaging the calves, hamstrings, glutes, quads, and core, aiding in fat loss, improving coordination, and revving up your cardiovascular health. And, if you're looking for a new low-impact workout for your sensitive knees - one that doesn't involve buying a stationary bike - the stepper will shine.
"The motion of stepping on and off the stepper can actually help strengthen the muscles around the knee joint, which can be beneficial for those experiencing knee discomfort," Langhans says. The stepper can also get your heart rate up through non-jumping moves, which Langhans says could be a bonus for someone looking for a high-intensity yet low-impact exercise.
Since knee discomfort is a complex issue, steppers aren't for everyone - in fact, Langhans says, depending on your concern, they might not be the most effective way to exercise, or even be considered safe. So, it's crucial to consult with a physical therapist or a doctor before beginning an aerobics stepper exercise program.
If you do have the green light to utilize a stepper in your routine, give Langhan's 15-minute, 4-move low-impact workout a try. "All of the moves in this workout are low-impact but high-intensity, meaning no jumping on or off the stepper, allowing people with knee issues to perform them without feeling excessive pressure in their joints," Langhans says.
Before performing any of the moves, make sure your body is properly prepped for the work ahead. Langhans suggests a low-impact workout that introduces movement to the body while raising the heart rate slightly - around two minutes should be sufficient here, but remember to listen to your body for guidance, too.
Langhams recommends performing moves like marches, jumping jack step-outs, air squats, and grapevines for 30 seconds each. Then, move into the 15-minute program. Perform three rounds of the four-move circuit, resting for 15 seconds in-between each move, or more if needed. Then, finish up with a one or two-minute cooldown to slow the heart rate down safely and stretch the muscles slowly.

7 Causes That Were Near and Dear to Princess Diana's Heart
Princess Diana was known for her impeccable sense of style and flawless beauty, but she is best remembered for her heart of gold. Diana spoke out on a wide range of issues close to her heart - including HIV/AIDS, leprosy, and cancer - and used her global influence to raise awareness as well as funds. She regularly visited hospitals, schools, and fundraising galas and even took trips to Angola, India, and Pakistan, touching the lives of many wherever she went. While Diana is no longer around, her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, have carried on her legacy by championing some of the same charities and causes as their mother and carrying on her traditions in their personal lives.
I Stopped Eating Oil For 6 Weeks, and My Skin, Energy, and Digestion Have All Improved
I've always believed and encouraged people to include healthy oils in their diets. I mean, that's what all the experts say, right? Olive, coconut, avocado - you need these healthy fats in your diet. But after reading ]Eat to Live, a book by Joel Furman, MD, I felt compelled to give it a try.
Dr. Furman does believe we need healthy fats in our diet, but he thinks we should get them in the form of whole foods like avocado, nuts, and seeds. When you eat healthy fats in whole-food form, you get the added benefit of fiber, protein, and other nutrients. He says cooking with oil adds extra unnecessary calories - 120 per tablespoon for some oils. It may not seem like much, but I was using it every day - a couple tablespoons in my salad dressing, a couple tablespoons to roast veggies or in stir-fries, and a generous smear on toast (vegan butter). I also found oil hidden in foods I bought like tomato sauce and vegan meats, and I also used it in my baking, which I realized, really adds up.
Related: I Ate 4 Pieces of Fruit Every Day For 2 Weeks, and No, I Didn't Gain Weight
I decided to give up oil for six weeks, as recommended in the Eat to Live Six-Week Plan. I always thought including oil in my diet made me feel better. But keep reading to learn about all the health benefits I experienced when I went oil-free that have made me want to cut down on my use of added oil as much as I can.

Telfar Is Restocking AOC's Coveted Red Bag Tomorrow
It looks like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is also a fan of Telfar's covetable shopping tote, which has been dubbed "the Bushwick Birkin." Telfar Clemens is the brains behind the nongendered brand, which was created in 2004. AOC carried the brand's highly sought after bag, which was introduced in 2014. The oxblood shopping tote prominently features the brand's sleek logo embossed on the side. Sadly, when Alexandria first debuted the $257 bag, it was sold out on Telfar's website, but the brand announced via Instagram that it's restocking the oxblood and yellow color ways in all three sizes tomorrow, including the exact bag the congresswoman carried.
AOC was seen carrying her bag while leaving the Capitol building in Washington DC after voting on a bill on the US Postal Service operations. She even went on to write about the brand on her Instagram, saying, "Fun fact: Telfar is now known as a globally celebrated designer, but did you know this Black, LGBTQ+ designer + founder got their start in LEFRAK CITY, QUEENS. That's right! Telfar Clemons is a HOMETOWN HERO from our district! Another NY-14 native using their talents to challenge us to question convention and imagine a different world. Our community is so proud!"
Read on to see images of AOC carrying the bag from all angles ahead, and get ready to shop your own when they restock on Telfar on Tuesday.

Everything You Need to Know About Emma Corrin, The Crown's Princess Diana
Netflix has released the first teaser for The Crown season four, and with it, our first glimpse at Princess Diana. But who is Emma Corrin, the actress beneath the perfectly-replicated pouffy wedding gown featured in the brief clips? Corrin was announced in 2019 as the first actress to take on the role of the late Princess of Wales. In some ways, it makes sense that a newcomer would be the best choice to play Diana, who went from being someone largely unknown outside of British aristocratic circles to one of the most famous women in the world - and we can't wait to see Corrin's take on the role!
Corrin will only play Diana for season four, set for a November 2020 release; once season five arrives, Elizabeth Debecki will take over the role for the remainder of the princess's life story. Since Corrin is so new to the industry, we haven't gotten to hear much from her yet, but keep reading for a few fun facts that we've learned about her so far.

DaBaby Brought Current Events to Life With His Powerful Medley During the MTV VMAs
It was the Charlotte rapper's first-ever performance for the VMAs and a stellar night for it; DaBaby is up for four awards this year including artist of the year and best hip-hop video and best choreography for his music video for "Bop." With the Jabbawockeez at his side, DaBaby performed a medley of hits "PEEPHOLE," "Blind," and "Rockstar." His performance was a nod to the recent police brutality protests, having DaBaby riding cuffed in the back of a cop car before ending the performance against a backdrop of fire. Beyond this, it also referenced the COVID-19 pandemic, as the boxes during "PEEPHOLE" were full of face masks. You can watch the story unfold for yourself with his full performance above.
Confused About If the MTV VMAs Are Live This Year? Here's the Situation
The 2020 MTV VMAs are technically airing "live" on Sunday night, but in reality, they're not actually live this year. Due to the restrictions from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the usually huge, live ceremony and night-of performances couldn't happen as they usually do, and reportedly, MTV's solution was to put together a broadcast assembled from prefilmed footage - including the award announcements themselves.
The majority of the show was filmed ahead of time in New York City. Anyone traveling into New York to film performances or other content had to quarantine for three to four days before their scheduled filming time slot, and all crew on the set were also frequently tested for the virus in order to comply with CDC recommendations. For artists who didn't want to fly into New York or were unable to, MTV helped them film from Los Angeles using green screens to make it appear they were blending into the New York sets.
"Performers in Los Angeles were all shot in-studio on a green screen. Miley Cyrus, Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga, Doja Cat all shot theirs on a screen to make it look like they were in New York but they never came here," a source told Page Six.
It's reportedly not just the performances that were filmed ahead of time. All the things we'd think of as being "live" for a normal award show, like "red carpet" interviews, were also prefilmed and packaged in advance. Even the awards themselves (and the acceptance speeches!) were prefilmed during these carefully choreographed and quarantined production bubbles. It makes sense, especially for a production-heavy show like the VMAs, that any sort of live show would simply not be feasible with the social distancing still recommended for safety during the pandemic. Instead of live numbers from living rooms and home studios, MTV opted to find the safest way possible to still bring major production values, and sacrificing a few live performances seems like an OK price to pay!
Miley Cyrus Goes Full Wrecking Ball For Her VMAs Performance of "Midnight Sky"
Miley Cyrus returned to the MTV VMAs stage as she performed "Midnight Sky" live for the first time on Sunday night. Wearing a sexy black dress, the 27-year-old singer strutted her stuff as she crooned the lyrics about letting go of past loves. Of course, one of the best moments of the performance was when she ripped off the skirt of her dress and swung on a disco ball. Anyone else getting "Wrecking Ball flashbacks? The new track, which dropped on Aug. 13, seems to chronicle her most publicized romances over the past year, as she makes references to exes Liam Hemsworth, Kaitlynn Carter, and Cody Simpson. Seeing that she performed her emotional breakup song "Slide Away" during the show last year, her latest performance about embracing the single life really brings things full-circle. Watch her incredible performance above.
In Case It Rains on Her, Lady Gaga's Intergalactic Outfit at the VMAs Has Her Covered
Lady Gaga is ready to make it rain at the 2020 MTV VMAs. The singer, who is performing her hit single "Rain on Me" with Ariana Grande for the first time ever, pulled out all the stops for the virtual award show's red carpet. Gaga wore a dramatic metallic dress paired with superhigh platformed lace-up boots and a headpiece that's perfect for someone nominated for nine awards. The singer is nominated for video of the year, artist of the year, song of the year, best collaboration, best pop, best quarantine performance, best cinematography, best visual effects, and best choreography.
Gaga is no stranger to going all out for the award show – I mean, I still think about her meat-covered ensemble at the 2010 VMAs regularly - and her metallic outfit during Sunday night's show is definitely one to remember. "I was wearing face shields before it was a thing 👆🤣 #VMAs," she wrote on Instagram. Check out Lady Gaga's outfit at the 2020 MTV VMAs ahead.
Miley Cyrus Is the Epitome of '80s Glam at the MTV VMAs
The mullet haircut has been staging a comeback this year, but tonight may be the first time that we've seen the throwback style hit a red carpet all year thanks to Miley Cyrus and her appearance at the 2020 Video Music Awards. The singer has been wearing the haircut for a few months now, but somehow when she showed up to the show's virtual red carpet on Sunday night, her hair looked even more mullet-y than before.
Cyrus's style for the event mimicked the '80s glam that seemed to inspire her latest music video for "Midnight Sky." She wore a strapless, mesh maxi dress with jewel accents and matching elbow-length gloves that she paired with bright red lipstick and black eye makeup. Read ahead to see more photos of Cyrus on the red carpet.
Joey King Is Serving Up Realness on the VMAs Red Carpet: "I Don't Really Look Like This"
Joey King gave us a peek at her 2020 MTV VMAs outfit ahead of Sunday night's show, but we still weren't fully prepared for just how good she looks. That dress! Those nails! That makeup!
The Kissing Booth star hit the red carpet dressed in a full Versace ensemble, complete with thick gold chains and gold hair clips. Her soft glam makeup look was done by celebrity makeup artist Allan Avendaño, while her extra-long hair was styled by Dimitri Giannetos.
When Travis Mills asked King what went into picking her outfit, she gave the most amazingly candid answer. "Uh, I'm wearing Versace. My first time wearing Versace. What's up? And what all went into it is I'm wearing a lot of Spanx, I've got some fake makeup on my legs so that they look shiny, and yeah, I have extensions in my hair. So you know, I don't really look like this." We love the realness.
See more shots of King's VMAs look, ahead.
From Gray Hair to Red Nails - Get a Look At the Best Beauty Looks From the MTV VMAs So Far
Candidly, we didn't really know what to expect going into the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards. Aside from the usual questions - like who will win artist of the year? Who is performing? What over-the-top beauty looks will this year's guests pull out? - we were all curious to see how the COVID-19 pandemic would change this year's event.
We've seen so many show-stopping, amazing beauty looks at the annual VMAs over the years. Miley Cyrus alone has had more jaw-dropping looks than we can count, and of course, it's hard to top the moment Lady Gaga emerged onto the red carpet in 2010 in a meat dress. Good times.
Now that the big night is here, we're happy to report that stars like Keke Palmer, Joey King, and Bebe Rexha did not let this year's unique situation stifle their creativity . . . like at all. Ahead, we rounded up a few of the best beauty moments from the 2020 VMAs.
Lady Gaga Brought Major Moon Person Energy to the VMAs, and We Need Space to Take It In
Dress for the award you want - that's how the saying goes, right? Well, Lady Gaga must've gotten the message because she showed up to the MTV VMAs channeling full Moon Person energy, and we're here for it. The "Rain on Me" singer is nominated for nine awards and is set to perform her hit single with Ariana Grande later in the Aug. 30 show, which is sure to be a must-watch.
We never know what we're going to get when Gaga takes the VMAs stage, but it's guaranteed to be entertaining! Fingers crossed she takes home a trophy tonight to match her look.
The Weeknd Takes the MTV VMAs to New Heights With His "Blinding Lights" Performance
As expected, The Weeknd did not disappoint when he opened Sunday's MTV VMAs. Clad in his now-signature red-and-black suit, a bloodied and bruised The Weeknd performed his hit "Blinding Lights" from over 1,000 feet above Manhattan on the observation deck of Edge at Hudson Yards.
The song is about drunk driving, and in a recent interview with Esquire, The Weeknd explained, "'Blinding Lights' [is about] how you want to see someone at night, and you're intoxicated, and you're driving to this person and you're just blinded by streetlights, but nothing could stop you from trying to go see that person, because you're so lonely. I don't want to ever promote drunk driving, but that's what the dark undertone is."
It's a big night for The Weeknd, who scored six nominations at this year's ceremony, including artist of the year and best R&B for "Blinding Lights." It also marked his second time performing at the show following his fiery debut in 2015.
