Costco's New Cookies and Cream Cupcakes Will Be the Sweetest $11 Treat I've Ever Given Myself
I consider myself an amateur baker after working my way through sourdough bread and oh-so-many chocolate chip cookies at home, but I'm ready to give my KitchenAid the night off after seeing Costco's new Cookies and Cream cupcakes. Let's leave the baking to the professionals, shall we? After eagle-eyed foodie @costcobuys spotted a 12-pack of these sweet treats for $11, I knew a trip was in my future.
The cupcakes are made with a yellow cake base, a chocolate chip mousse, and an actual chocolate chip cookie on top. So yes, I'll take all 12, thank you very much! It's unclear exactly which Costco bakeries will be carrying this dessert, so make sure you call ahead to your closest location before making a trip. Happy snacking!

I Was Supposed to Finish My 50th Race This Year, but When I Finally Do, It'll Mean Even More
The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted virtually every part of my life, from my work as a theme park journalist and not being able to see my friends for extended periods of time, to how I go to the grocery store and how I train for half marathons. You see, I'm an avid runner, and this year I was supposed to cross the finish line of my 50th RunDisney race.
Earlier this year, I completed two races at RunDisney's Princess Half Marathon Weekend, a virtual Star Wars-themed half marathon, and a 5K on Disney's private island, Castaway Cay. The last of those was in March, and then the novel coronavirus emerged and everything shut down. My goal to cross the finish line of my 50th race had been put on hold, but I held on to hope that I'd at least be able to compete during the RunDisney Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend at Walt Disney World in November.
In the meantime, I kept up some outdoor training and stayed motivated with RunDisney's annual summer virtual 5K series, which this year was themed to classic Disney attractions. Then the inevitable happened.
In July, when I got the Twitter alert from RunDisney announcing that the Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend was canceled as an in-person event and being turned into a virtual race, I was devastated. I was holding out a small sliver of hope that the race could somehow go on, even though I knew in my head there was no possible way to bring thousands of runners to Walt Disney World to complete the course and ensure everyone's safety. RunDisney gave runners the option to cancel their registration for a full refund, or still participate virtually and receive a Disney gift card. I got a refund for the 5K I was registered to do, and decided to run the 10K virtually.
When I got the news about the canceled race, I decided to stop running until later in the fall. It wasn't worth the ridiculous heat and misery of doing training runs in July and August, when morning temperatures started out in the 80s.
In November, I'll complete the 10K, setting up fake character meet and greets, virtually running by attractions that would have been along the race course at Epcot and Disney's Hollywood Studios, and taking the coveted finish line photo - all in my neighborhood - then finishing the race off with a beer. All of this has been inspired by one of my favorite running and fitness Instagram pages, Crowned Athletics, who has been hosting their own virtual races with people from around the world who love RunDisney.
This virtual 10K will be my 47th race, and another Star Wars virtual race in January will be my 48th. So, when will I get to cross the finish line and celebrate 50 RunDisney races? Hopefully next April during the Star Wars Rival Run Weekend. Registration is already open, and I've signed up for the 5K and 10K with the hope that a vaccine will arrive and life will return to some level of normalcy that allows us to run races again.
Until then, I'll be dreaming of the day when runners can gather again, and I hope everyone who has lost so much during the pandemic can find something to look forward to and hope for in the future.

You Heard It Right - This 10-Minute Resistance-Training Circuit Counts as Cardio
When ACE-certified personal trainer Jennifer Nagel is short on time, she says there is nothing better than doing workouts with dual benefits of resistance and cardiovascular training. It's her trick for keeping exercise boredom at bay, too.
Just as long as your heart rate stays at a moderate to vigorous level (50-85 percent of your max heart rate!) for at least 10 minutes during an exercise, Nagel says it counts as cardio.
"A quick way to calculate your approximate maximum heart rate is 220 [minus] your age," she explains.
Traditional strength training moves don't normally make the cardio cut because of rest periods that bring your heart rate down, Nagel says. But, a resistance-training circuit with little-to-no rests keeps your heart pumping while targeting multiple muscle groups - don't let the goal hinder you from taking breaks or modifying moves when needed, though!
"These types of workouts are effective when you include compound exercises that work large muscle groups such as legs, back, and chest, or even when you can combine multiple compound movements into one exercise," Nagel says. Think of doing a squat to an overhead reach, for example.
Every great workout is nothing without a warmup and cooldown. Before getting started on Nagel's circuit, she suggests walking in place or dancing around followed by dynamic movements like arm swings, torso twists, knee hugs, and air squats.
You'll be tired by the end of this sweat, but that doesn't mean you should skip out on Nagel's cooldown stretches: overhead reaches, chest openers, and quadricep stretches. These will keep your head above your heart until your heart rate slows to less than 50 percent of your max, she adds.
Finish off the cooldown with toe touches, static lateral lunges, and a Cat to Cow pose for 3-5 deep breaths.

15 Reusable Animal Face Masks That Are Protective, Yet Playful
On a recent visit to see my parents, we all put on our face masks and decided to head to the store. When my parents came to tell me they were ready, I burst into laugher. They were both wearing masks that had the print of a grizzly bear's mouth. My parents are the outdoorsy-type and love camping, so this was super on-brand for them.
During our store visit, I couldn't believe all the compliments they received on their masks; people were asking where they got them from. Turns out, my parents shop on Etsy, which was a shocking revelation. I decided this seemed to be a new mask trend for people who are looking for something both protective and fun. I went home and searched for animal face masks on Etsy and confirmed there was a ton of cute (and safe) options to wear. Ahead, I curated some choices that you can shop too. Take a look.
This Full-Body Workout With a Chair and Pair of Dumbbells Is a Trainer's "Sweat Therapy"
We know home workouts can be tough, but if 2020 has taught us anything about exercise, it's that sweat sessions in our living rooms (or any room, for that matter) really can work! Trainer and founder of Thick Athletics Lita Lewis is here with a routine that will work your entire body right at home, and all you need are a chair (a stool, bench, couch, or sturdy surface also could suffice) and a pair of dumbbells. Lewis uses 20-pound dumbbells but says to lift what you can - and if that means 10-pound weights, that's totally fine!
Lewis's full-body workout consists of seven compound exercises, which are movements that work large muscle groups at a time. Do 12 reps of each move - or 12 on each side - for three rounds. The moves are: sit squat and jump; Bulgarian split squat; single-leg Romanian deadlift (with your back foot elevated) and bicep curl; squat, curl, and press; alternating front lunge with Romanian deadlift; Romanian deadlift and bicep curl; and front row with alternating forward lunge.
Watch Lewis demonstrate the compound exercises in the Instagram slideshow above, and get ready to sweat. Lewis even calls this "sweat therapy," and we could definitely use some!
This 15-Minute Step Workout Is Easy on the Knees - But Will Seriously Make You Sweat
From dumbbells to booty bands to treadmills, turning your living room into your personal fitness studio can be a journey packed with product research. We hope you don't mind, though, because we have yet another to add to your shopping list: an aerobic stepper.
According to NASM-certified personal trainer Jenna Langhans, steppers pack a whole lot of health and fitness power, including engaging the calves, hamstrings, glutes, quads, and core, aiding in fat loss, improving coordination, and revving up your cardiovascular health. And, if you're looking for a new low-impact workout for your sensitive knees - one that doesn't involve buying a stationary bike - the stepper will shine.
"The motion of stepping on and off the stepper can actually help strengthen the muscles around the knee joint, which can be beneficial for those experiencing knee discomfort," Langhans says. The stepper can also get your heart rate up through non-jumping moves, which Langhans says could be a bonus for someone looking for a high-intensity yet low-impact exercise.
Since knee discomfort is a complex issue, steppers aren't for everyone - in fact, Langhans says, depending on your concern, they might not be the most effective way to exercise, or even be considered safe. So, it's crucial to consult with a physical therapist or a doctor before beginning an aerobics stepper exercise program.
If you do have the green light to utilize a stepper in your routine, give Langhan's 15-minute, 4-move low-impact workout a try. "All of the moves in this workout are low-impact but high-intensity, meaning no jumping on or off the stepper, allowing people with knee issues to perform them without feeling excessive pressure in their joints," Langhans says.
Before performing any of the moves, make sure your body is properly prepped for the work ahead. Langhans suggests a low-impact workout that introduces movement to the body while raising the heart rate slightly - around two minutes should be sufficient here, but remember to listen to your body for guidance, too.
Langhams recommends performing moves like marches, jumping jack step-outs, air squats, and grapevines for 30 seconds each. Then, move into the 15-minute program. Perform three rounds of the four-move circuit, resting for 15 seconds in-between each move, or more if needed. Then, finish up with a one or two-minute cooldown to slow the heart rate down safely and stretch the muscles slowly.

I Stopped Eating Oil For 6 Weeks, and My Skin, Energy, and Digestion Have All Improved
I've always believed and encouraged people to include healthy oils in their diets. I mean, that's what all the experts say, right? Olive, coconut, avocado - you need these healthy fats in your diet. But after reading ]Eat to Live, a book by Joel Furman, MD, I felt compelled to give it a try.
Dr. Furman does believe we need healthy fats in our diet, but he thinks we should get them in the form of whole foods like avocado, nuts, and seeds. When you eat healthy fats in whole-food form, you get the added benefit of fiber, protein, and other nutrients. He says cooking with oil adds extra unnecessary calories - 120 per tablespoon for some oils. It may not seem like much, but I was using it every day - a couple tablespoons in my salad dressing, a couple tablespoons to roast veggies or in stir-fries, and a generous smear on toast (vegan butter). I also found oil hidden in foods I bought like tomato sauce and vegan meats, and I also used it in my baking, which I realized, really adds up.

I decided to give up oil for six weeks, as recommended in the Eat to Live Six-Week Plan. I always thought including oil in my diet made me feel better. But keep reading to learn about all the health benefits I experienced when I went oil-free that have made me want to cut down on my use of added oil as much as I can.
From Beyonce to Rihanna, We're "Crazy in Love" With This 2000s Dance Cardio Workout
The 2000s had many things (questionable fashion trends! The best Disney Channel Original movies!), but top-tier pop music is what really defines this era in our minds. And if you're ready to take a trip down memory lane and get a quick sweat session in at the same time, look no further than this gem of a dance cardio workout from Maddie Lymburner, aka the fitness YouTuber behind MadFit.
This 15-minute dance workout starts (of course) with "Crazy in Love" by Beyoncé and Jay-Z, a true 2000s anthem, segues into "Buttons" by the Pussycat Dolls and "Yeah" by Usher (again, iconic), and closes out with "Don't Stop the Music" by Rihanna. In between beginner-friendly dance moves, Lymburner mixes in squats, punches, lunges, and other simple but effective bodyweight moves.
