Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Has Died at Age 87
Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has died at age 87, the Supreme Court announced on Friday. The feminist icon and champion for women's rights had been battling metastatic pancreatic cancer. Ginsburg had served on the Supreme Court for 27 years since she was appointed by former president Bill Clinton in 1993.
"My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed," Ginsburg had said in a statement dictated to her granddaughter, Clara Spera, days before her death, according to NPR. Referred to as the Notorious RBG by many of her fans, the justice was only the second woman to serve on the Supreme Court and a pioneer in the fight for gender equality. In July, Ginsburg revealed she had been undergoing chemotherapy since May.
"Our Nation has lost a jurist of historic stature," Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr. said in a statement released by the Court. "We at the Supreme Court have lost a cherished colleague. Today we mourn, but with confidence that future generations will remember Ruth Bader Ginsburg as we knew her - a tireless and resolute champion of justice." Ginsburg died on Sept. 18 surrounded by her family at her home in Washington, DC. She is survived by her two children and four grandchildren.

Social Media Consent: Chris Evans vs. Emily Ratajkowski
When you recall the last celebrity photo scandal B.C. (Before Chris), who comes to mind? Is it a woman? Was the leak intentional or from an anonymous party? Did the person become a trending topic online? How did you find the photos? Did someone share them with you, or did you share them with someone else?
Over the weekend, Chris Evans unintentionally shared a private photo of himself on his Instagram account. While he was able to delete the evidence shortly after, we all know that as soon as something hits the Internet (especially with a following of 6.3 million), it's sure to spread. As Chris inevitably became a trending topic and hashtag, something truly amazing happened. Online mentions of the actor were quickly overwhelmed with positive photos and news of his philanthropic work to rightfully humanize the person behind the image.
This progressive effort from a community of strangers showed the power of respect and range of understanding we can have for one another. It also exposed the double standard women have faced in similar situations, as actress Kat Dennings tweeted. Coincidentally, model Emily Ratajkowski published an essay for The Cut a few days later about a social media situation similar to Evans', but with a much more traumatizing ending.
"Social media has both supplied and demanded constant access to people's lives, careers, relationships and bodies - with women granted the least amount of respect and privacy."
In "Buying Myself Back: When does a model own her image?" Ratajkowski shares how nude photos of her from a professional modeling gig were shared by a man without her consent - a man who, she also claims, sexually assaulted her. In fact, photographer Jonathan Leder was rewarded with sold out art galleries, multiple book releases, and a follower increase for publishing Ratajkowski's naked body for anyone to access. What makes Ratajkowski's story even more infuriating was her desperate plea for ownership of her own body - which was continuously denied by Leder and consumers in favor of social media traffic. Her body was shared to such an extent that it intentionally demoted her emotional, mental, and physical well-being to a secondary status beneath a man and audience who controlled discussion and distribution of Ratajkowski's body before her. Why bother seeking the approval from an actual person, when degrading her to an object is so much sexier, and doesn't require any accountability?
In her essay, Ratajkowski courageously recounts other exploitative experiences driven by social media, one of the most notable being the 4chan leak. In 2014, an anonymous user published hundreds of nude photos of Hollywood women including Ratajkowski, Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Upton, Vanessa Hudgens, and more.
A revolutionary way to connect, social media has both supplied and demanded constant access to people's lives, careers, relationships and bodies - with women granted the least amount of respect and privacy. The 4chan photos (and other similar leaks before and since then) are then dubbed "scandals" - as if they are sensationalized headlines, rather than intimate moments violently ripped from women and plastered online for strangers to scrutinize. Not only are these photos shared without their consent, but women are insulted further, to quietly accept this reality, and in some cases issue a very public apology, for a very private matter.
Unfortunately, Ratajkowski's story of social media clicks at the expense of her body is something women are disproportionately affected by. Of course women aren't the only ones subject to invasive sharing of private moments. Justin Bieber and Noah Centineo are some men who have been targets of both hacking and paparazzi exploitation. However, women take the lead as victims, where a UK study found that almost 75% of so-called "revenge porn" cases target female. This study categorizes this in two forms: public punishment from a past relationship or extortion.
While there are definite differences between Evans and Ratajkowski in terms of circumstance and time, what is undeniable is the amount of respect for their consent. Both Evans and Ratajkowski did not want their intimate photos shared, but where Evans received unspoken support to not share his photos from the online community, Ratajkowski was met with silence and likes.
As an internationally recognized, billion dollar funded superhero and a cis straight white male, Evans is the literal and figurative symbol of America, in the traditional and un-defeatable sense. He deserved respect for his mistake. He still deserves that respect. Women do too. Whether public protection for Evans was due to a strong cultural shift and a generational understanding for privacy, or simply because we love our Captain, will we remember to protect women at this same length? Even if she isn't our Miss America?
Here’s Why Peloton’s Guided Stretching Videos Are One of the App’s Best Features
Throughout all the Peloton hype, no one is talking about what I believe to be one of the app's best features. So, I've taken it upon myself to share what I think is currently Peloton's best-kept secret: the music-backed guided stretching videos.
For those who haven't taken the Peloton plunge, the app offers more than just cycling videos. The $13 membership gets you a plethora of guided workout sessions from strength training to running to meditation - and yes, stretching.
When it comes to warming up for and cooling down from workouts, I'm notoriously lazy - but the music behind Peloton's stretching videos has been a total game-changer.
Peloton instructor Olivia Amato's 10-Minute Full-Body Stretch sparked this obsession. One day after a spin session, I stumbled on the video. I was feeling tight and tired until Justin Bieber's "All Around Me" hit my ears.
I could have been looking in all the wrong places, but I feel like most guided stretching videos are set to tranquil, soothing soundscapes. It wasn't until Peloton that I realized how motivating stretching to pop hits can be. It gets my energy up before a workout and helps me push through a cooldown when all I want to do is shower and jump in bed.
If the Biebs isn't your preference, you can filter through stretching videos based on music genres from alternative to classic rock to indie. Maybe a Latin flow or country vibe is the inspiration you need to loosen up those joints and feel good.
Sure, Peloton's stretching section has other awesome features, too - like how there are videos (both warmups and cooldowns!) to match just about any workout class the app offers. You can even filter through their stretching selection by the teacher or how much time you have.
Now, I no longer dread that extra 10 minutes of post-workout stretching, and my body is so much better for it.

Class is in session! A star-studded cast that even had Chrissy Teigen shook got together for a virtual table read of the 1982 comedy Fast Times at Ridgemont High on Thursday night, and it was totally awesome, as Jeff Spicoli would say. The fundraising event featured a reunion between Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt, as well as stars Julia Roberts, Dane Cook, Sean Penn, Morgan Freeman, Henry Golding, Jimmy Kimmel, Shia LaBeouf, John Legend, Ray Liotta, and Matthew McConaughey, who sat down to act out iconic scenes from the movie, which Penn originally starred in.
The virtual special featured a series of memorable moments, including LaBeouf's hilariously accurate portrayal of Jeff Spicoli enjoyed by Penn himself, Morgan Freeman's dramatic narration, Julia Roberts (Stacy Hamilton) and Aniston's (Linda Barrett) adorable friendship, and a comical reenactment between Aniston (Linda) and Pitt (Brad Hamilton) as their characters shared a flirtatious scene in a daydream sequence.
Fans were excited to see Aniston and Pitt reunite once again, albeit virtually, after the two crossed paths backstage and were photographed sharing a hug at the SAG Awards earlier this year. The pair, who were married from 2000 to 2005, delivered an amusing scene that did not disappoint, in which Brad Hamilton imagined hooking up with Linda, made even funnier by Freeman's thrilling storytelling. Hosted by Cook (Mark Ratner), the event celebrated the coming-of-age film's 38th anniversary and raised money for COVID-19 relief and criminal justice reform through CORE and REFORM Alliance. Watch the table read in full above.

19 Real-Life Tattoo Tales That Will Make You Laugh - and Possibly Cry
Not unlike a signature scent or the qualities you tick off on the "Looking For" section of a dating profile, tattoos are often deeply personal and largely dependent on personal preference. In fact, the design you choose, at which magnitude, and whether you want it etched along your spine, down the sole of your foot, or somewhere in between can be motivated by many a thing - including, but not limited to, a damn good story.
From book references to favorite foods to some really touching tales that represent a tear-jerking experience, we asked POPSUGAR editors to share their personal favorite tattoo from their own collections (plus the stories behind them) in case it helps inspire your next piece of ink. Some are hilarious, others are touching, but all of them are bound to make you smile. (Besides, show us someone who doesn't love a good origin story and we'll show you a liar. We said what we said!)
Starbucks Is Dropping So Many Boo-tiful Halloween Cups, We Can't Pick a Favorite
We suggest you form a calming circle, because Starbucks is slowly but surely unveiling its Halloween merch collection, and the products are causing quite the frenzy on social media. The coffee chain kicked things off by releasing a cup that looks like it was designed for glam wannabe witches, featuring a black base color, shimmery iridescent finish, and studded surface. Coffee-lovers have unofficially nicknamed it the "Dark Bling Cold Cup," and we'd say that's pretty darn fitting. The eye-catching tumbler dropped on August 25, the same day Starbucks's beloved Pumpkin Spice Latte hit menus again for the fall. It's available in a venti size at Starbucks locations and in a grande size at Target stores.
That's not the only spooky item Starbucks is blessing us with this year though - it's also quietly begun rolling out a scaly, glow-in-the-dark cold cup, a shiny purple tumbler decorated with a black cat, and a colorful set of reusable hot cups that say phrases like "hot off the cauldron" and "goblin juice" and come with glow-in-the-dark lids. A few lucky customers have already snagged these additions at some Starbucks stores in the States, but they're apparently slated to hit shelves in late September.
Ahead, take an up-close look at all of Starbucks's new Halloween cups. Fair warning: they're selling out fast, so you may want to board your broomstick and fly to the nearest Starbucks ASAP to claim your own.

Brace Yourselves, PEN15 Fans: Even More Season 2 Episodes Are Coming Next Year
PEN15's second season is finally arriving this week in all its painfully awkward, brace-faced glory, providing a much-needed mental escape back to the year 2000. If you're planning to binge-watch it on Hulu and are preemptively craving more of Maya Ishii-Peters and Anna Kone's cringe-worthy antics and Y2K style moments, we're here to reassure you that, yes, more episodes are indeed on the way. The first seven episodes hit Hulu on Sept. 18, and the streaming service has plans to release seven more sometime in 2021 once it's safe to resume filming. This means we're getting a total of 14 freakin' episodes, compared to season one's 10 episodes - heck yeah!
To refresh your memory, PEN15 debuted back in February 2019, introducing us to 13-year-old BFF duo Maya Ishii-Peters and Anna Kone, played by real-life 30-something pals Maya Erskine and Anna Konkle. The first season explores some of their highly relatable middle school experiences, from flirting via AIM (will the real FlyMiamiBro please stand up?) to wearing a classmate's stolen thong (sorry not sorry, Heather!).
Meanwhile, season two dives a bit deeper into Anna's struggle to cope with her parents' separation, along with some hysterical moments for her and Maya, including a pool party, experimentation with witchcraft and wrestling (separately, of course), a school play, and quite the eventful sleepover. Hulu has yet to tease what the remaining seven episodes will be about, but we're hoping to see Sam finally own up to his big crush on Maya.
Lululemon Now Has Extended Sizing, and Says "It's a Start."
Lululemon is a top destination for workout clothes; we love their highly-rated leggings and supportive sports bras. Starting today, though, more people can wear the comfortable, sweat-wicking clothes, because the company has announced it's expanding the size range. Six of the bestselling styles will now be available in sizes 0-20, with Lululemon itself maintaining, "it's a start."
According to the brand, "inclusion is a journey, and we know we have work to do." The company hopes to have the majority of the clothes be size inclusive by the end of 2021, which is encouraging. Keep on reading to shop the collection; we're obsessed with the Align leggings.
PEN15's Anna Konkle and Maya Erskine Have a Real-Life Bond We Can't Get Enough Of
Maya Erskine and Anna Konkle don't just share names with the characters they portray on Hulu's PEN15, they also share the same close friendship in real life. The executive producers and actresses - who play the roles of Maya Ishii-Peters and Anna Kone, respectively, in the hit series - have been pals since junior year of college, as both went to NYU's Tisch School of Arts for experimental theater. Now both 33 years old, their close bond is palpable as they flawlessly mimic awkward seventh graders with a little help from prosthetic braces, horrific bowl cut wigs, and plenty of early-2000s-approved outfits.
Similar to their characters, Maya and Anna cheer each other on for their IRL accomplishments, blessing fans with a heavy dose of #BFFGoals every step of the way. In honor of their weirdly wonderful friendship and PEN15's second season, join me in looking back on Anna and Maya's best photos together, including some hysterical behind-the-scenes snaps from the set of their Hulu show. NASA's Smoke-Filled Satellite Photos Show the Devastating Impact of the West Coast Wildfires
Wildfire season has ravaged the West Coast from Washington down to Southern California in the last several weeks, forcing thousands to evacuate their homes and many to lose their lives. The extensive fires have produced thick clouds of smoke, and a recent photo taken by NASA's Terra satellite camera puts the devastating impact of the disasters on full display. The photo, seen above, was taken on Sept. 9, the day before the San Francisco Bay Area awoke to orange skies and pitch black homes.
According to a separate photo taken by NASA's Earth Polychromatic Imaging Camera (EPIC) on NOAA's DSCOVR satellite, the widespread mass of smoke is visible 1 million miles away from Earth and obscures large sections of Oregon, California, and the northeastern Pacific Ocean. On the ground level, the air quality is so hazardous that many cities have become temporarily unliveable, while others have suffered long-term destruction from the fires themselves.
The smoke has begun to disperse in certain regions, but the ongoing wildfires are still burning. The fires are a direct result of climate change - namely high temperatures and sweeping winds - and have destroyed 3.4 million acres of land in California alone. In Oregon, at least five people have lost their lives as a result of the fires and over half a million people are on evacuation alert, according to Reuters. Up north, fires in Washington have scorched 626,000 acres and flattened over 180 homes, according to The Seattle Times. The fires are expected to spread as high-speed winds carry smoke across the country and even as far as 5,000 miles away in Europe. As the West Coast grapples with the effects of these disasters, NASA's photos serve as a reminder of the crucial work yet to be done to reduce climate change.
Tyra Banks Teaches Drew Barrymore the Importance of Smizing in the Age of Face Masks
If you ever caught an episode of America's Next Top Model back in the late 2000s or if you were just an obsessed fan of the show like I was, you've probably heard of the art of smizing (a word coined by Tyra Banks, which means to smile with your eyes). While the concept may have been introduced over a decade ago, the Tyraism is more important than ever now as we wear face masks to protect ourselves from COVID-19. The supermodel and entrepreneur paid a visit to The Drew Barrymore Show on Thursday to teach Drew how to master the smize.
Tyra explained that since most people are used to smiling with their mouths, they might look angry or unhappy while wearing masks - that's why we have to smile with our eyes. "Now, a smize doesn't just mean, 'I'm fierce.' A smize today means 'thank you' or 'you go first.' Or a smize means, 'I'm gonna be here for you during this difficult time that you are going through right now,'" she explained.
She hilariously coached Drew through smizing, sharing that in order to get the right smize, you have to think of something that delights you. The model - who's currently the host of season 29 of Dancing With the Stars - had the talk show host imagine she was watching her daughters perform on stage as she advised her to squint her eyes. Watch the fun moment in the video above.
Freaked Out by The Social Dilemma? You Should Make Qwant Your Default Search Engine
If you haven't already watched The Social Dilemma, then we'll warn you: it's going to make you want to delete all your social media accounts. The Netflix documentary explores the ways in apps like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok have become harmful to society, and not only because of their impact on users' mental health. According to The Social Dilemma, social media also uses surveillance capitalism and data mining for financial gain and contributes to the spread of conspiracy theories and misinformation - though luckily, not all websites and apps utilize user tracking. Unlike Google, Qwant is a search engine that respects your privacy and won't retain your personal information.
Launched in 2013 and based in Paris, Qwant is one of the few search engines with its own indexing capabilities, which means that it doesn't employ user tracking or personalize search results based on past searches. Instead, Qwant provides neutral results without using or even storing your private info for advertising or other purposes. Similarly, the search engine works to make the entire web accessible without filtering results for commercial, political, or moral reasons, so you can say goodbye to bias. Qwant also delivers all results for your search on the same page, including websites, images, videos, shopping, and all other relevant resources.
Though developed and based in Europe (which means it abides by stringent European privacy laws), the site is accessible in the US and is even available in 26 languages. Parents will likely appreciate the Qwant Junior portal for kids, which filters out inappropriate results or any adult content. As Qwant co-founder Éric Leandri explained to The New York Times back in 2014, Qwant isn't looking to compete with Google - they want to offer a privacy-oriented alternative. "Google isn't a search engine anymore," he explained. "We are just a search engine. We don't do robots."

Dynasty Star Liz Gillies Married Composer Michael Corcoran in an Intimate Ceremony
Congratulations are in order for Liz Gillies and Michael Corcoran! The 27-year-old Dynasty star revealed on Instagram and in a Vogue exclusive on Wednesday that the pair tied the knot back on Aug. 8 in an intimate ceremony at a farm in New Jersey.
The former Victorious actress, who had been dating the composer and producer for six years prior to getting married, wore a gorgeous, vintage-feel wedding gown for the occasion. Though the couple's wedding was originally set for April, they had to make changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic. "Initially, we planned on postponing a year," she told Vogue. "Then, as time went on, we decided a big wedding was no longer something that made sense for us." After searching for outdoor venues that offered micro weddings on the East Coast, they landed on for a 10-guest ceremony at a "picturesque" farm in New Jersey, where Liz's family lives.
While Liz and Michael had been together for over six years, Liz had met the composer long before then and "always had a crush on him." Once they decided to tie the knot, the couple bought a house together in Atlanta, after two years of traveling back and forth between Georgia and LA, where Michael lived. Cheers to the happy couple!
