Since moving into my studio apartment, I've told people I live alone. In fact, I actually have a secret boarder, and his name is Kevin. He is a little prickly, loves to spread out, and takes up the only window in my place. That's because Kevin is an aloe vera tree.
Kevin requires a lot of maintenance and care - I tell people he's preparing me for motherhood. I have to water him, clip him, and sing to him. (The carbon dioxide my breath omits helps him grow.)
Taking care of an aloe plant is a little bit of work, but it's not a one-way street. Along with keeping me company, Kevin provides a plethora of skincare assets. Even Drew Barrymore is a fan of his kind. Here are a few ways aloe vera can help your skin.
- It calms redness: If you pop open an aloe vera stem, some pus-like goo will come out. It may not look pretty, but it's a natural anti-inflammatory. That means it helps to depuff, soothe redness, and kill bacteria. If you pop it under your eyes, it will reduce swelling that comes with seasonal allergies or staying up too late. Similarly, it will quench dry skin. The antibacterial element kills surprise zits that have already started to come to a head.
- It brightens: Got hyperpigmentation? Aloe plants naturally contain vitamin C, which works to brighten dark spots over time. Apply gobs of the stuff to your acne scars before bed, and you'll see a difference with continued use.

These are desert plants; as such, they demand tons of sunlight and won't survive if you don't give them prime window real estate. Today, the pioneer's legacy lives on - both through her eponymous haircare brand, which is sold at Sephora and QVC, and now, a just-announced Netflix show.

"You almost have to wear the bare minimum, otherwise you'll just sweat it off or look really oily. Especially on camera, you can look really shiny and the oil shows up a lot on your face."

In Paradise, it's almost like a vanity setup, with mirrors and chairs, but it's all outside. It can get very hot, and sometimes it rains, but we all still put on makeup regardless. One good thing about it is that you're reminded as you're putting on makeup in the heat not to do too much, because you know it might look crazy in the sun and you're going to feel it."

Keeping hair looking good despite the searing humidity is an entirely different story: "By day three, it's so hot that you're throwing your hair on top of your head anyway," Gates said, adding that she also had a secret weapon: braids. "One of my girlfriends going on Paradise this season asked how I dealt with frizz before she left, and I told her, 'Get yourself a spritzer - it doesn't matter which kind, whatever you can get - and some hair ties, and then braid it in a side ponytail.' Luckily for me, Danielle Maltby was on my season of Paradise, and she could braid my hair like nobody's business."

Truly Is Releasing a Rosé Spiked & Sparkling Water - and Yup, We'll Take a Million
I'm going to shoot straight with you: Rosé has never been my first choice off the drink menu at a restaurant. And yes, I know that's borderline sacrilegious during the sweltering Summer months on the East Coast. While my friends' gazes immediately land on the Rosé section of the wine list, I usually go all or nothing with a dry white or a full-bodied red because Rosé registers as just a little too sweet for me on the average afternoon.

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Finally Has a Premiere Date - and It's Perfect
On July 29, Netflix held a series of panels and presentations as part of the Summer TCA press tour. And though there was no planned panel for the hotly anticipated witch-romp, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, we still got an exciting surprise announcement: a premiere date! Netflix pulled out all the stops for the reveal: a whole group of identical Sabrinas lined the stage in Letterman jackets, chanting, "Something wicked this way comes." Another fleet of Sabrinas marched into the audience and passed out candied apples.
As the red lights flickered and the creepy music intensified, the stage Sabrinas turned around, and each jacket had one letter (or number) of the premiere date. Remember those really tall carnival slides you would go on when you were a kid? You would sit on potato sacks and slide down from way above the ground. Or maybe you recall the playground slides where groups of children would gather around the stairs leading up to them, excitedly waiting their turn to slide down. Now imagine a slide, similar to these two, but just much, much higher and nearly 180 feet in length, amid a forest - dreamy, right?
This famous 180-foot giant slide is located at Baumwipfelpfad Schwarzwald in Germany and is open from mid-March through early November each year from morning until later in the evening. To get to the top, slide-goers must travel up a curving wooden tree walk that takes you high above Germany's Black Forest, offering a scenic view of one of the country's largest vacation destinations along the way. Visitors, ages 6 years and up, use large, sliding mats to plunge down the 180-foot tunnel, winding tens of stories down and eventually landing at the base of the forest.

How to Know Your Partner Might Be Cheating Based on Body Language
When it comes to relationships, cheating is pretty much a no-brainer offense. While some people might have different ideas of what cheating really is, such as a flirting over text with another person or watching porn, when it comes to physical touch with someone else, its pretty clear that that's NOT OK. Luckily, cheaters often possess the same body language traits, so it could be somewhat easier to spot if you've been suspicious. Here are a few clues that your partner might be up to some no-good behavior.
They're Protective of Their Phone
If your partner is crazed about you peeping at his or her phone, it could be a sign. "The cheater will have guarded body language when on their mobile devices," says David Bennett, counselor and relationship expert with Double Trust Dating, to POPSUGAR. Your partner might choose to hold the phone in a clear way so you can't see it, or even suddenly lock the screen and put their phone out of reach when you are around, he says. There's probably some secretive stuff in there.
What's more, your partner might pull away and freak out when you do happen to see something on their mobile device, he says. "If someone is using their phone for honest reasons, they have no reason to act surprised and/or jerk their phone away if their partner happens to see what's on the screen. However, if they are cheating, this reflex reaction is going to happen automatically and subconsciously, and their body language will suggest they just got 'caught,'" he says.

They Get Nervous When Discussing the Other Person
If the other person happens to be in your partner's life regularly or you know of this person, your partner could tense up upon hearing the name from your mouth. "They might show signs of nervousness when you talk about the suspected "other woman" or "other man," says Bennett. "Signs of nervousness include speaking more quickly, tension in the face, and stroking their forearms gently or touching their chest area (men may adjust their ties - these last two are called 'pacifying behaviors' and help a nervous person feel more relaxed)," he says. Be on the lookout for these warning signs when in conversation about your partner's relationships with others.
What's more, let's say you're in front of the other man or woman, where you see them together. "Body language is ultimately subconscious, and many cheaters will feel the desire to be physically close with the person they are cheating with," he says. For example, if your partner is cheating with a coworker, and every time you see them together, they are barely inches apart, sitting extremely close, making significant eye contact, and touching each other, something's going on.

They Smile at Their Phones
Cheaters will sometimes flash a full smile while looking at their phones, says Bennett. Of course, this could be harmless, so don't assume the worst if there aren't other signals of cheating behavior. "If you see your partner doing a lot of typing, which they may claim is work related or something along those lines, but they flash a full, genuine smile (called a Duchenne smile, which involves the eyes and cheeks), this may be a sign they aren't exactly focusing on work," he explains.
They're Openly Closed Off to You
Cheaters will have closed off body language toward their partner. "Many cheaters ultimately feel bad about their cheating and/or like the other person better, so they will stop having open and happy body language around their partner," he says. The cheater will likely keep physical distance, touching less and less, smiling less, and crossing their arms when they are around their partner, he explains. This could also be indicative of other marital problems and not just cheating, too.
