Richard Linklater Is Reportedly Making a 20-Year Film With Beanie Feldstein and Ben Platt

Boyhood director Richard Linklater is reportedly embarking on another ambitious project: a movie spanning 20 years starring Beanie Feldstein and Ben Platt. According to Collider, it will be a remake of Stephen Sondheim's 1981 musical Merrily We Roll Along, which is based on a 1934 play of the same name. The musical is a dark comedy that follows the successful career of Franklin Shepard, a Broadway composer who becomes a Hollywood producer, but instead of being in chronological order, it follows the story backward from 1976 to 1957. During those years, the audience sees how Shepard grapples with his rise to fame and fortune and how he alienated meaningful relationships with friends and family.

Platt will reportedly play the main character, and Feldstein will play his best friend, a theater critic named Mary Flynn. While neither actor has commented on the new movie yet, 26-year-old Feldstein most recently starred in Olivia Wilde's hilarious and modern take on a high-school coming-of-age movie, Booksmart. Feldstein also starred in Lady Bird, and Merrily We Roll Along is actually the musical the students audition for; Feldstein's character Julie gets the lead. Meanwhile, 25-year-old Broadway star Platt rose to fame after his performance in Dear Evan Hansen. He also stars in Ryan Murphy's upcoming Netflix series, The Politician. Platt and Feldstein are close friends in real life and recently performed together at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's Grants Banquet.

Linklater's Boyhood - which stars Ethan Hawke, Ellar Coltrane, and Patricia Arquette - was filmed over the course of 12 years and went on to receive six Academy Award nominations in 2015, including best picture. Arquette won the Oscar for best supporting actress. While few details about Linklater's current plans are known, we know Merrily We Roll Along's adaptation is in good hands.

I Replaced Diet Soda With This Spiced Drink For 2 Weeks, and the Results Were Surprising

After recently being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis (an autoimmune disease), I really started to think about the choices I was making for my health. For years, Diet Coke was a staple for me, but I wanted to find a healthy alternative - something I could feel good about putting into my body - so I decided to read up on golden milk.

Golden milk, also known as turmeric milk or a turmeric latte, is a hot (or iced) drink made with milk and various spices - most notably turmeric, which gives the drink its signature yellow color. Turmeric, and specifically the active ingredient curcumin, is a natural anti-inflammatory and has many scientifically-proven health benefits. One review of the research concluded that curcumin, when combined with pepper to increase its bioavailability, can help better manage conditions including metabolic syndrome, arthritis, and anxiety, and ease exercise-induced muscle soreness, among other things. The researchers noted that even people without a diagnosis can benefit from a relatively low dose of the stuff. That was enough to convince me.

Many people enjoy golden milk at night, but I decided to drink it every morning for two weeks. My mornings are crazy, and since I don't have the time to make my own turmeric concoction, I used Vahdam Teas Turmeric Classic Latte Mix ($15), which is a powder you simply mix with a milk of your choice (I prefer almond milk). It contains pepper as well, which is important for absorption.

The first thing I noticed about golden milk is that it's surprisingly tasty. It's comforting and spicy in a good way, and I didn't feel like I needed to sweeten it with anything. I also found it to be filling; Diet Coke seems to fuel my appetite, but golden milk has the opposite effect. Mostly, I just feel good after drinking it, not bloated the way I feel after downing a lot of soda.

Bloating creeps up almost every night like clockwork, but after a few days without soda, I started to notice an improvement.

In fact, the most dramatic effect I've noticed since giving up carbonated beverages and replacing them with a healthy alternative is how much it has benefited my digestive health (another long-touted benefit). Along with RA, I've also suffered with irritable bowel syndrome since I was 18 years old. My IBS causes chronic bloating, the kind that makes me look like I'm six months pregnant. Not only is it embarrassing, but also very painful. It creeps up almost every night like clockwork, but after a few days without soda, I started to notice an improvement. Now I only get bloated once in awhile, and when I get strong cravings for something fizzy, I reach for a kombucha instead.

I'd love to say that drinking golden milk cured me of my rheumatoid arthritis, but that's not accurate or realistic. I'm currently in the early stages of this disease, I'm focusing on doing all I can to reduce inflammation in my body. It's simply too early to tell if drinking golden milk is helping with that, but I do know that I feel better since giving up soda and starting to drink turmeric, and right now that's good enough for me.

Lizzo Doesn't Want to Be Praised as "Brave" For Being Confident: "I'm Just Me"

When Lizzo opened her performance at the 2019 MTV VMAs with a giant inflatable butt across the entire stage, the crowd went wild. Her empowering songs and self-assured attitude are what makes her impact so powerful, but Lizzo doesn't want to be considered "brave" for radiating such levels of confidence; it's just who she is. In a new interview with Glamour, Lizzo spoke about how frustrating it is for society to admire her confidence, as if it's not expected of her because she's a fuller-figured woman.

"When people look at my body and be like, 'Oh my God, she's so brave,' it's like, 'No I'm not,'" Lizzo said. "I'm just fine. I'm just me. I'm just sexy. If you saw Anne Hathaway in a bikini on a billboard, you wouldn't call her brave. I just think there's a double standard when it comes to women."

She added, "I don't like it when people think it's hard for me to see myself as beautiful. I don't like it when people are shocked that I'm doing it." But Lizzo is 100 percent that b*tch, and she doesn't want her self-love to be treated any differently than someone else's.

"I don't like it when people think it's hard for me to see myself as beautiful."

Following her show-stopping VMAs performance, Lizzo shared a message on Instagram about how much it meant to her having a group of black women standing behind her on stage. "Every woman on that stage had a story of either why they shouldn't have been on that stage or why they didn't believe they deserved to be on that stage, including myself," she wrote. "Not only were we taught to believe we didn't belong in the spotlight, but when we finally get to a place to self-worth the world tries to knock us down. Not this time. The world smiled with us. The world sang us. The world saw our beauty last night. The world saw black women feeling Good As Hell and cheered us on . . . Being a big black woman with y'all by my side is the honor of my life, and I hope this moment stays forever between yo titties."

Lizzo is unapologetically herself, and her lyrics are helping others feel that same self-love she radiates. She said that the internet really helped her "find the beauty" in herself after seeing other beautiful people online who look like her. "You'll find yourself reflected," she said.

As for the future, Lizzo just hopes that no one's confidence is ever considered "surprising." Confidence comes from within, and Lizzo's powerful lyrics and honest attitude are helping others feel that same way. "Let's just make space for these women," she said. "Make space for me. Make space for this generation of artists who are really fearless in self-love. They're out here. They want to be free. I think allowing that space to be made is really what's going to shift the narrative in the future. Let's stop talking about it and make more space for people who are about it."

Leslie Jones Will Host a Reboot of Supermarket Sweep After Leaving SNL

ICYMI, Saturday Night Live's fabulously funny Leslie Jones is leaving the late-night show after five years of writing and performing in some of our favorite skits. But the 51-year-old comedian and actress already has big plans lined up, namely hosting a reboot of the 1960s (and later 1990s) game show classic Supermarket Sweep!

For anyone who didn't grow up watching this show in the '90s and early aughts, the game show is set in a faux grocery store and challenges contestants to race through the aisles to throw as many expensive items into their shopping cart as possible to beat the opposing team. The team with the highest-valued cart wins, and I, for one, am ready to shop.

The show, produced by Fremantle, doesn't have a release date yet. In the meantime, though, we can look forward to Jones's other projects, including her first stand-up comedy special on Netflix, a role in the Coming to America sequel, and a role starring alongside Kristen Bell in Queenpins.

Wondering If Your Tattoo Should Be Healed by Now? Here's How Long It Takes

When you get your first tattoo, maybe you're eager to share it with the world, but it won't look quite how you imagined at the beginning and will scab over during the healing process. Tattoo artist Michelle Santana from celebrity-favorite parlor Bang Bang Tattoo said this is when most first-timers tend to get concerned.

"My most common freak out with customers is when they get home and see blood or ink smudging under the bandage," she explained. This is totally normal, and you won't see what your ink will really look like for several months after you get it done. "After about two to three weeks the tattoo will be healed enough to have an idea of how the tattoo will end up looking, and the following months the ink will settle in to the skin," said Santana. The best thing you can do while patiently waiting for it to heal is to keep the area clean and lightly moisturized.

How can you tell if your tattoo is healed then, you wonder? Santana explained: "It's fully healed when all scabs are completely gone and it looks a little shiny." Ahead, check out a few tips to ensure your tattoos heal without infection.

Normani Wore the '90s French Manicure to the VMAs Red Carpet, and It Was Flawless

Normani just brought the french manicure trend - which has been hugely popular this Summer - to the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards. The singer showed out on the red carpet with a traditional version of the look: nails with a pink base and off-white tips. She wore the manicure with a square shape.

The nail trend - which was at the height of its popularity in the '90s and early 2000s - has been experiencing a resurgence, with A-listers like Khloé Kardashian, Hailey Baldwin, and Bella Hadid putting their 2019 spin on the trend. Normani's decision to wear its traditional iteration might be influenced by her nostalgic "Motivation" music video (which is filled with references to the decade), or perhaps it's just her great taste.

VMAs: Missy Elliott Delivers a Deeply Heartfelt Vanguard Acceptance Speech About Her Legacy

The MTV Video Music Awards belonged to Missy Elliott on Monday night - everything and everyone else was just background noise.

The legendary rapper and hip-hop star hit the stage about halfway through the award show in Newark, NJ, to perform a truly epic set before accepting the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. After dancing and belting out hits like "The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)," "Throw It Back," "Get Ur Freak On," and "Work It," she was introduced by Cardi B and delivered a heartfelt, teary-eyed speech touching on her legacy in the music industry.

"I promised I wouldn't cry because I cry every award [show], but the Video Vanguard Award means so much to me," she said. "I have worked diligently for over two decades. I never thought I'd be standing up here . . . it don't go unnoticed, the support and love you've shown me over the years."

She went on to thank God, her mother, Aaliyah, Timbaland, Busta Rhymes, Janet Jackson, Peter Gabriel, Madonna, MTV, and more. She also made sure to shout out all the dancers who have helped her music videos reach icon status over the years.

"Lastly, I want to dedicate this award to the dance communities all around the world. When y'all get on the stage with these artists, y'all are not just props," she told the dancers around her, ushering them to the front of the stage. "Y'all are the icing on the cake, y'all are the beat to the heart. I dedicate this to every dance community out there."

Fans of The Wire Will Love Netflix and Drake's Revival of Gritty British TV Drama, Top Boy

"The olders are washed, the youngers fear nothing. And everyone wants to be a Top Boy."

That's the basic premise behind Netflix's new series Top Boy, which follows rival gangs fighting for control of East London streets. The series originally aired on Channel 4 in the UK from 2011 to 2013. Drake purchased the rights to the British TV drama in 2017 and serves as the series' executive producer (which is actually his second series, after the HBO drama Euphoria) alongside the show's original creative team: Charles Steel and Alasdair Flind for Cowboy Films, Ronan Bennett (who also wrote the series) for Easter Partisan, and Yann Demange.

The show's ten-episode revival on Netflix will pick up where the drama left off, with Dushane (Ashley Walters) returning from exile to his home in London to reclaim his throne in the highly lucrative drug market. He teams up with Sully (Kane Robinson), his "spiritual brother, partner, and sometime rival" who is also returning to the same streets after being in prison. Their plans put them at odds with Jamie (Micheal Ward), the young, hungry and ruthless gang leader whose ambitions leave no place for Dushane and Sully. The first look revealed surprise appearances from British rappers Little Simz (real name Simbi Ajikawo) and Dave (David Omoregie) in undisclosed roles.

"We couldn't be more excited for Netflix members around the world and a new generation of fans to discover the authentic, raw and real world of Top Boy," said Netflix's vice president of original content, Cindy Holland. "Drake came to us several months ago with a passion to help bring this series back to life, and we're thrilled to support the original creative team to do just that."

Watch the new trailer for Top Boy above and get ready to head back to East London when the series begins streaming on Sept. 13.

Against All Odds, Timothée Chalamet Manages to Make Bowl Cuts Sexy in The King Trailer

When I was about 6 years old, my mom bought an "As Seen on TV" contraption called a Flowbee and used it to chop my hair into a floppy blonde bowl cut. It was heinous. Fortunately, it seems Netflix provided enough funds for their upcoming medieval drama, The King, to miraculously make star Timothée Chalamet's bowl cut . . . dare I say . . . hot? (I'm sorry it's true.)

In the first trailer for the film above, the Little Women actor plays Hal, a rebellious prince who's turned his back on royalty despite being heir to the English throne. But his low-key lifestyle is shattered when his tyrannical father dies, leaving Hal crowned King Henry V. As he navigates the perilous ups and downs of politics within his kingdom, as well as the debt of war his father left behind, Hal is forced to evolve into someone he swore he'd never be.

In addition to Chalamet and his bowl cut, The King also stars Lily-Rose Depp, Ben Mendelsohn, Robert Pattinson, and Joel Edgerton. Keep an eye out for the movie when it begins streaming on Netflix this Fall.

We'd Watch Missy Elliott's VMAs Vanguard Performance on Replay Forever - It's *That* Good

In case you've forgotten that Missy Elliott is unf*ckwithable, please look toward her mind-boggling MTV Video Vanguard performance at the 2019 VMAs and get with the program! The 48-year-old took the MTV stage to perform for the first time since 2003, and it was pretty much everything a fan could ever dream of: an electrifying medley of her greatest hits (of which there are many) including "The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)," "Throw It Back," "Get Ur Freak On," "Work It," "Pass That Dutch," and "Lose Control."

Just like her iconic music videos, Elliott's performance gave us nostalgic dances, epic hairstyles, and elaborate sets that included cornfield imagery, a rainstorm, the surface of a fiery planet, a UFO, and more. To quote Cardi B, the performance was "FIRE!" (And possibly the best moment of the night.) MTV could have ended the show right then and we all would have gone to bed satisfied.

Watch the incredible performance ahead, then keep scrolling to see choice moments from Elliott's set.

Alyson Stoner's Missy Elliott Dance Video Is Still 1 of the Best Tributes Ever

Back in the early 2000s, Alyson Stoner was a mainstay in Missy Elliott's music videos, including "Work It" and "Gossip Folks" - and though the little girl we all wanted to be is now an adult, she hasn't forgotten about the artist who gave her her big break. Alyson, now 26, recently reunited with Missy at the MTV VMAs as part of her Video Vanguard Award medley. She wowed the crowd with her breakdancing and backflips, proving that she'll be working it forever.

In 2015, Alyson also paid homage to her former collaborator with an awesome dance routine done to a medley of Missy's hits, which she posted to her YouTube channel. The dancer and actress enlisted the help of Monica Parales, who also danced in the "Gossip Folks" video. Alyson gave an exclusive interview to Buzzfeed at the time, saying, "When Missy comes on the radio or in public, I immediately pause, feel so sentimental, and start replaying memories in my head." Missy herself reached out to Alyson via Twitter after watching the tribute, writing, "Very sweet of you." Relive the impressive video above now.
