This Instagram Account Uses Cardboard Cutouts to Make You Reimagine the Magic of Sunsets

Sunsets are beautiful to witness in person, but sometimes you just gotta do it for the 'gram. Instead of just snapping a shot of the spectacle, Emmy-award-winning TV producer and writer John Marshall uses it as a backdrop for a much more creative photo op. His project, called "Sunset Selfies," includes setting up cardboard cutouts of well-known characters against the sunset to cast a silhouette and create the scene. Animals, objects, and predominately Sesame Street characters are featured on his Instagram account with more than 1,700 followers.

The concept is super simple but so cool. "Each day I draw a picture on a big sheet of cardboard, then I cut it out and pose with it at sunset," Marshall wrote on BoredPanda. He also mentions how in addition to original characters, he mainly features friends from Sesame Street since he's a big fan of Muppets creator Jim Henson.

Take a look at some of his shots below and get inspired to make your own "Sunset Selfie" or get creative with paper cutouts. For more cardboard magic, check out Jim's Tumblr and Facebook.
