Ryan Murphy Now Says the Election-Themed Season of AHS Won't Feature Trump or Clinton

The theme of each season of American Horror Story is usually teased out over the course of a few months, but creator Ryan Murphy seemed happy to share the season seven theme a little early on a recent episode of Watch What Happens Live! "I don't have a title, but the season that we begin shooting in June is going to be about the election that we just went through," he told host Andy Cohen. "I think that will be interesting for a lot of people." So does that mean one of Murphy's small pool of favorite actors will appear as Donald Trump? "Maybe," he said at the time.
Flash forward a few weeks, and now it appears that Murphy is reneging on his big reveal. Well, sort of. Blaming his loose lips on drinking "three martinis in 20 minutes" on WWHL!, the showrunner has clarified that although the season will still tackle the 2016 presidential election, it won't feature Hillary Clinton or Trump. "The themes of American Horror Story have always been allegories. You will not see Trump and Clinton as characters on the show," he said at the Publicists Guild Awards on Friday, before mentioning that he could envision friend and frequent collaborator Sarah Paulson (who presented him with an award at the event) as Kellyanne Conway. "Now as I look over at Sarah Paulson, I think of Kellyanne Conway. I don't know! I might be rewriting!"
At this point only Paulson and Peters have been confirmed for season seven, so we'll just have to wait and see how it all shakes out when the show returns in Fall 2017.
