The Temporary Tattoos Models Wore on the Dior Runway Were Showstopping
Over the past year, we've seen designers make political statements at Fashion Weeks across the globe, but that activism doesn't always translate to runway beauty looks. That just changed in a big way at Dior's Spring Summer Couture Fashion Week in Paris, where models presented their gowns wearing temporary tattoos spelling out messages of protest.
At first, the masks and capes in designer Maria Grazia Chiuri's Dior collection looked so surreal, we thought we were back in the 1930s at a party hosted by Salvador Dali. But there was one very modern twist, courtesy of lead makeup artist Peter Philips.
Models were sent to walk the Musée Rodin wearing the ink drawn onto their fingers, necks, and ears. These French sayings included "Liberté," which means "freedom." Other phrases were, "L'Amour est Toujours Devant Yous. Aimez!," which translates to "Love is always before you. Love!"
In keeping with the amorous theme, another model was seen with the words, "Au Départ Il Nes'Agit Pas De Comprendre Mais Bien D'Aimer" written across her chest. That means, "At the beginning it is not necessary to understand but to love."
