Fitness magazine, health and fitness magazine, healthy smoothie recipes for weight loss:Jessica Simpson's Daily Workout Is Surprisingly Simple

Jessica Simpson has always been vocal about her weight-loss goals, from becoming a Weight Watchers spokeswoman to showcasing her hard work in the gym with celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak. So when she debuted her new activewear line, The Warm Up, this month, she had our attention. The line, available at Macy's as part of her current clothing collection, features flattering cuts and a wide range of sizes and is made for every woman. "As with everything we do, we want women to feel good in their skin and what they're wearing," Jessica recently told us. "Our busy lifestyles can take us from the gym to errands or out to lunch, so the styles have to be cute and versatile, but entirely functional for your workouts." Her favorites: the spaghetti strap sports bra ($15, originally $32) and the "You Don't Know Squat" tank ($32).

When it comes to fitness recommendations, we'll take them from Jessica, who lost 60 pounds after her second pregnancy and continues to wow. So what does she do when she's rocking her new performance apparel line? Jessica's workout is surprisingly simple and one we all can copy. "I walk three miles a day," she says. "Eric and I love taking the kids out for long walks in the neighborhood; chasing them around our yard is a workout all its own!" She also spends time on the treadmill instead of the couch. "I love my treadmill, it's great 'me time'," she explains. "I walk and walk while I catch up on my shows."

In addition to walking every day, Jessica's strength-training routine is just as easy to emulate. To sculpt definition in her legs, she also adds squats, uphill lunges, resistance band exercises, and exercises on the BOSU. Check out some of our moves below to get legs like Jessica!

Fitness magazine, health and fitness magazine, healthy smoothie recipes for weight loss:Calorie Hacks to Lighten Your Favorite Thanksgiving Dishes

We all have Thanksgiving Day dishes we love but the calories and saturated fat, not so much. Dietitian Julie Upton, MS, RD of Appetite For Health has great tips and simple tweaks to make your favorite holiday dishes healthier without sacrificing the flavor.

Rich and creamy mashed potatoes, sweet cranberry sauce, bread stuffing, pecan pie . . . oh my! Eating healthy isn't the first thing that comes to mind at Thanksgiving, but with a few simple tweaks, you can lighten up even the most decadent holiday recipes.

Here are 10 tricks that slash calories, added sugars, and artery-clogging sat fat while instantly upgrading your diet - all without sacrificing taste!

  1. The traditional turkey sidekick, bread stuffing, is loaded with both calories and saturated fat, thanks to the butter, sausage, and fat drippings (if cooked inside the bird) it contains. Instead of bread stuffing, switch to a wild rice-based stuffing with dried or fresh fruit and plenty of earthy herbs and spices.
  2. Many sweet potato casseroles call for a stick of butter (1/2 cup), which contains nearly four day's worth of saturated fat and more than 800 calories. Replace stick butter with a "light" whipped butter or a soft spread. In place of the sugary marshmallow topping, top your casserole with toasted chopped pecans and a drizzle of antioxidant-packed maple syrup.
  3. To make trimmed-down mashed potatoes, skip cream or whole milk and mash your potatoes with skim or 1% milk or buttermilk. Add sweet roasted garlic for an unexpected flavor boost.
  4. To cut the tartness of cranberries in your sauce or relish, use chopped apple or unsweetened applesauce in place of up to half of the sugar in your recipe. (1/4 cup of sugar can be replaced with 1/2 cup of unsweetened applesauce or chopped apples.)
  5. Cut the crust: pie crusts are high in calories and saturated fat, so the best options are single-crust pies like pumpkin or pecan, or go crustless. Here are two of my irresistible fruit-based desserts - Apple-Ginger Phyllo Nests and an Apple-Cranberry Crisp - that allow you to indulge without the bulge.
  6. Cut a quarter of the sugar from recipes. Most recipes have way too much sugar, so you can safely nix a quarter of it without negatively impacting the recipe whatsoever.
  7. Replace up to half of the fat in baked goods like cookies, muffins, and quick breads with an equal amount pureed beans, canned pumpkin, or unsweetened applesauce. (Trust me - no one will even notice.)
  8. Instead of baking with shortening or butter, which pack in saturated fat, use canola oil. Canola oil is best for baking because it's heart healthy and has a neutral flavor and creates the perfect texture for baked goods.
  9. Replace buttercream frosting on cakes and cupcakes with lower fat meringue frosting, made from just sugar and egg whites.
  10. Swap half the white flour in a recipe with an equal amount whole-wheat flour for more nutrients, antioxidants, and fiber.

Healthy smoothies for weight loss, recipes for weight loss:Stop Rinsing Your Turkey Before You Roast It

I know my mom always rinses whole chickens and turkeys in the sink before roasting them - it's something that generations of folks have done, but after attending a turkey-cooking seminar at Butterball, I learned that's the last thing you should do.

The most bone-chilling reason is you run the risk of splashing salmonella everywhere. Even if you have no cutting boards or dishes near the sink for salmonella-contaminated water to touch, the sink and faucet handles themselves may get contaminated. And when there's so much other stuff to clean, why take up your time to scrub everything with a decontaminator (including inside the sink) after raw poultry has touched it? No one has time for that.

To top things off, rinsing the turkey may waterlog it, meaning the turkey skin steams rather than roasts into that coveted crispy, brown exterior. [Insert cry emoji.] So instead, this year, be bold. Don't rinse your turkey. Just remove it from the package and blot it dry with paper towels. Your family will high-five you for keeping them safe.

Healthy smoothies for weight loss, recipes for weight loss:Don't Have Day-Old Bread? Here's How to Fake It

Dishes like stuffing, french toast, stratas, and bread pudding may be thrifty ways to give yesterday's bread a second life, but that doesn't mean that there's always stale bread on hand when a craving hits. Instead of buying a loaf only to wait an extra day to get your carb fix, try this simple trick for near-instant stale bread:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Slice the bread into the size specified by the recipe. If your recipe calls for no crusts, remove them now.
  3. Arrange the slices or cubes into a single layer on a half-sheet pan. Do not season or coat the bread with oil.
  4. Bake for about 15 minutes, or until the bread is toasted and dry, but not browned.
  5. Use the dried-out bread in your recipe.

Healthy smoothies for weight loss, recipes for weight loss:The Ideal Pan to Use When Roasting a Turkey

While at Butterball, I learned there are a few crucial pieces of kitchen equipment a home cook needs in order to perfectly roast a turkey - and know that a suctiony basting tube and electric carving knife aren't included. Many of these you may already own, but in case you don't, these are the essential items you need to have stocked so you can have a flawless Thanksgiving.

  1. Kitchen shears: The best way to remove the plastic wrapping from a turkey is to use a sharp pair of kitchen shears. If you use a knife, you run the risk of tearing the turkey skin. Use the scissors to cut around the sides of the bag, rather than cutting at the top, which could dig into the breast.
  2. Paper towels: Don't skimp on the cheap stuff! When it comes to blotting the turkey dry and cleaning up any surfaces, you want something highly absorbent and durable.
  3. Stainless steel roasting pan: Butterball has experimented with every type of pan there is (including the retro speckled ones and disposable aluminum pans), but there's only one that they stand by, and that's a shallow, two-inch stainless steel roasting pan. Stainless steel is a great conductor of heat, plus the shallow pan allows the turkey to be exposed to all that hot air. Lastly, you can put the pan directly on the stovetop to make gravy.
  4. Flat roasting rack: Many roasting pans come with a rounded roasting rack, but according to Butterball, this squishes the thighs, which means they will take longer to cook. Instead, opt for a flat roasting rack, so no matter the size of the bird, it will fit comfortably inside the pan.
  5. Heavy-duty foil: Foil has so many purposes when roasting a turkey. If you don't have a flat roasting rack, a coil of foil can be used. If the turkey thighs hit the edges of your pan, a foil buffer protects them from overcooking. And most commonly, a tent of foil over the breasts keeps the meat from drying out while the thighs reach the right temperature.
  6. Silicon basting brush: This is not for basting the turkey. Say what?! We'll explain later, but stop basting your bird while it cooks. Instead, use this silicone brush for brushing on the oil or butter inside the pan, rack, and turkey itself before popping it into the oven.
  7. Oven thermometer: Is your oven really at the right temperature? It's impossible to know if you setting it to 325°F really means it's at 325°F unless you have an oven thermometer placed inside the oven to prove it. Especially when you are roasting a big bird, you want to make sure the oven is at the right temperature for food safety and so you can accurately calculate how long it will take you to cook the bird to temperature.
  8. Meat thermometer (preferably two!): The experts at Butterball swear by the Thermapen for its reading accuracy. While they recommend having two thermometers to double-check your work, it's important to have at least one functioning thermometer. Stick it in a cup of boiling water to test its accuracy before you use it on Thanksgiving.
  9. Chef's knife: It's nice to have a carving fork and knife, but they aren't 100 percent necessary. It's more important to have a sharp chef's knife on hand and to carve the turkey on a meat-safe cutting board.

Healthy smoothies for weight loss, recipes for weight loss:Forget the Pie and Make These Brie and Fig Bites Instead!

I don't know where I was or what I was looking for, but I stumbled upon a Joy the Baker recipe that sent my heart in a flutter of wild palpitations. It involved puff pastry, brie, and preserves, and I knew I had to create my own version.

Instead of puff pastry, I opted to use pie crust. I envisioned creating little Pop-Tarts pastries, filled with brie and fig preserves. Rather than cut the rectangular shapes by hand, I used a round cookie cutter, because it makes for an easier, faster prep than measuring and hand-cutting the dough squares.

Pie dough thaws fast, so you really need to cut it quickly and throw the pieces back into the fridge to firm up before stuffing and closing them.

The round shape, fork crimping, and "X" on the top give the impression that these are miniature pies! Upon biting into the flaky, layered crust, the salty brie and sweet fig preserves ooze out. It was everything my fluttering heart had hoped for, and these bites disappeared quicker than they were made. Now it's your turn to make these adorable brie bites. from:POPSUGAR Food http://ift.tt/1QOun7D ---------------------------

Healthy smoothies for weight loss, recipes for weight loss:What to Do If Your Turkey's Still Frozen

If it's crunch time and you've reached for the turkey in the fridge only to realize it's still a frigid solid mass, don't freeze: we've got some methods for quick thawing, pointers for how to know when your turkey's completely defrosted, and what to do if you don't have time to thaw your bird.

For our favorite quick-thaw method, try submerging the turkey (breast-side down with its wrapping still on) in a sink or a cooler full of cold water, changing out the water every half hour. Allow 30 minutes to thaw for each pound of turkey. FYI, a 16-pound turkey will take eight hours. (If math's not your thing, then simply plug the weight of your turkey into this defrost calculator.)

Once you've allowed your turkey to thaw, perform two tests on the bird to confirm that it's completely defrosted: reach your hand into the bird's cavity to make sure there aren't any ice crystals, and poke the thicker parts of the turkey with a fork. If you get icicles doing either one of these, then your turkey needs more time to warm up.

Hours of thawing time may not be an option, in which case you can simply cook the bird in its frozen state: Allow four-and-a-half to six hours, as opposed to the usual three-and-a-half hours, to cook a 12- to 13-pound thawed turkey. Don't stuff it; this will up the cooking time even more. When ready, the turkey should reach at least 165ºF at the thickest part of the inner thigh.

Weight loss smoothie, weight loss smoothie recipes:These Are the Trendy Temporary Nail Tattoos Every Polish Junkie Needs to Own

Nail artist Simcha Whitehill, aka Miss Pop, is no stranger to working under pressure. She has designed the manicures for top New York Fashion Week shows like Rodarte, Jeremy Scott, and Alice + Olivia. And she's also done the digits of such celebrities as Gwen Stefani, Ariana Grande, Amy Schumer, and Janelle Monae. Though she is pretty much a genius when it comes to nail art (see her gorgeous work here), something was holding her back: not having the proper tools.

To create today's top nail art fads like negative space and geometric shapes, you need a stencil. Many turn to household items such as tape for this. But according to Simcha, painter's tape doesn't produce a crisp line and Scotch tape leaves a residue.

So, she took matters into her own hands and spent a year formulating her own line of stencils and decals that launch on Friday, Nov. 27, on tattify.com.

"Backstage, you have to make these looks happen in 15 minutes," she told us. "So I created products so people can make these just as fast. They actually help you get a foolproof designer, because they're very grippy." The bottom line: anyone can DIY crazy-cool nail art without having skills.

The offering includes two main iterations: sticker stencils and metallic nail art foils. The stencils, which are black, can be placed over lacquer or on a bare nail to create a negative-space nail art look. Shapes include a half moon (great for curved french tips or moon manis), an elongated triangle (to create chevron styles), and a bar (for stripes). Or, you can rock them on top of a color for a black-designed look.

Then, there are the metallics, which are basically like Flash Tattoos for your fingertips. Choose from silver, gold, black, and a standout holographic finish (which Simcha joked "will make a unicorn jealous because they shoot rainbows!"). Simply adhere these durable foiled pieces atop bare or lacquered nails, and then finish with topcoat. You'll get flawless designs such as dots and half rectangles without having to paint a single line.

Since these sets are priced at $8 to $16 per pack (including 50 decals), they won't cost you anywhere near what a manicurist would charge. Plus, you can cut them up to customize bespoke versions.

"I wanted to help people to create their own nail art looks without needing to go to a salon or even having to practice," she explained. "I wanted to make custom nail art even more accessible - and sparkly! All you have to do is peel, stick, seal with topcoat, then sit back and enjoy the compliments."

We're already obsessed and dreaming about way to deck out our digits for holiday parties and New Year's Eve. Keep reading to see more images of this hot new launch, plus get quick tutorials from Miss Pop on how to use them.
