Is There a Best New Artist Curse? Here's What Happened to These 24 Grammy Winners
This year's Grammy nominees for best new artist are Courtney Barnett, James Bay, Sam Hunt, Tori Kelly, and Meghan Trainor - it's undoubtedly going to be a heated race for the coveted award, whose past recipients include household names like The Beatles, Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey, and Maroon 5. While those musicians' careers are still firmly intact, there are a handful of other best new artist winners who haven't fared so well (for example, Paula Cole once asked us, "Where have all the cowboys gone?" but now we're just left wondering where she's gone). In honor of the upcoming Grammys on Feb. 15, we're looking into the status of some of the past best new artist award winners. Keep reading to see what's become of them, and let us know whether you think they've avoided a curse or not.

These New Quotes May Have Just Confirmed a Huge, Devastating Death on The Walking Dead
The threat of Negan's arrival on this season of The Walking Dead has been looming over us for a while now, especially since his presence in the comics comes with the very shocking death of fan-favorite character Glenn (Steven Yeun). Although Glenn's brief brush with death earlier this season had fans hoping he'd be alive and well for many episodes to come, a few of the show's cast members may have inadvertently dropped some major spoilers regarding his fate.
In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, the intensity of the sixth season's finale came up, and Andrew Lincoln - who plays Rick Grimes - had quite a few troubling things to say. "I felt sick to my stomach when I read the script. It was the first day in the whole six years of working on The Walking Dead that I was late for work because I woke up in the middle of the night and I couldn't get back to sleep," Lincoln revealed. "I was so angry and frustrated and I felt sick. And that was just after reading it."
Although Lincoln's comments are definitely telling, it's the comments from Lauren Cohan (who plays Maggie, Glenn's one true love) that have us the most worried. "[Hearing] the word 'finale' gives me a physical reaction because it's the hardest day on set that I've ever had in my life," she said. "I never even imagined that as an actor you could have that experience. It's one of the most raw experiences that I think any of us have ever had. Andy talks about being late to work; I didn't want to go to work that day. It took a really, really long time for everybody to feel okay again after the finale, let's put it that way."
It looks like we have a long road ahead of us, zombie fans. Until the show comes back on Feb. 14, check out photos from the midseason premiere!

Yes, Dairy Queen Created a New Blizzard Just For Single People
Though a little harsh, Dairy Queen is encouraging single people everywhere to "break the cliché" and treat themselves this Valentine's Day with their latest creation - the Singles Blizzard. No Valentine's Day Plans Yet? Here Are a Few Easy Ideas For the Single and Taken
Singer, actress, fashion designer, entrepreneur, writer, and mom of two Thalia shares her parenting, lifestyle, fashion, and beauty tips as POPSUGAR Latina's contributor.
Valentine's Day is right around the corner. If you haven't had time to think about what to do to celebrate with the one you love, do not fret! Here are some ideas I thought might inspire you - even if you're single.
If You're Single . . .
The most important thing is to love yourself! Look in the mirror and say: "I love you. Thanks for everything, and for always being there for me. You are my best friend. Have an amazing day of friendship and love." Remember that even if you do have a partner, love begins within you, and it is never too late to start being kind to yourself. So, spend this Valentine's Day celebrating the beautiful heart that you have inside.
If you're enjoying the single life, Valentine's Day is still a fun day for you. Call your friends, have them all come over so you can get ready together, do your makeup and fix your hair as a group, and go out to a restaurant and later to a bar where you can dance, have fun, and celebrate one of the best gifts life can give us: friendship. Remember, not everybody is fortunate enough to have really close friends who will always watch your back. Make sure your friends know how much you appreciate them and love them, especially on Valentine's Day.

If You're in a Relationship . . .
In an age where online apps provide lots of short-term relationships and not much commitment, those who find a great partner and a long-lasting, committed, and positive relationship are truly lucky! That is a good reason to celebrate and go all out on Feb. 14.
If you are one of the lucky ones, focus on what's important and be available, in the moment, and dedicate 100 percent of your attention to talking, holding hands, and being present for your partner. Spending quality time together is key! Plan a romantic dinner at home or in a restaurant that you don't visit often, or come up with a fun, unexpected activity that will make you laugh and draw you closer together.

If You Have Kids . . .
Let's not forget our little ones, who have also stolen our hearts! I am looking forward to celebrating the day of love and friendship with my husband, who is my ideal partner and the love of my life, and with my two children, who I adore and make my life as colorful as a rainbow! We are planning on going out to a restaurant, and afterward, we'll stop by the ice cream shop and sit down to talk about the week and our favorite things. That will be a perfect Valentine's Day for me, and could be for you, too.

If You Want to Celebrate With Friends . . .
If you enjoy being a hostess and opening your home to all of your friends, there are some things you can do to impress them on the day of love and friendship. First, make sure to greet them with a delicious Valentine-inspired cocktail - you can use strawberries or beets - and make little appetizers in heart shapes to match the occasion. You can also buy a bunch of inexpensive lipsticks and sticky notes in different colors, set up a board and markers at the entrance of your home, and ask your friends to paint their lips and leave kisses on the notes along with love or inspirational phrases. Plus, your friends will love the new lipsticks they get to take home!
Remember, the greatest love is the one that we share, the one that we demonstrate in person with hugs and smiles, not via text messages. Do not wait for Valentine's Day to live intensely and share your feelings with those you love. Have a happy day of love and friendship today and every day!

I'm a Fashion Blogger, and I Created a 3-Item Plan to Save My Sanity and My Wardrobe
The following post was originally featured on Yanira Garza and written by Yanira Garza, who is part of POPSUGAR Select Latina.
I know, everyone is in organization mode but this is something I've thought about for a while, but would like to implement this year. First things, first. I have taken out 100 items from my closet. Yes, you read that correctly. I have donated two boxes and one bag full of clothing and accessories. But the truth is, a few of these items were kept because of either sentimental value or because they were expensive (though I got a deal). I never wore them more than once or kept tossing them in the "maybe" pile; as in maybe one day I will wear them. Those 100 pieces were all "maybe" pieces.
As a stylist, I know better but sometimes you just cannot help yourself . . . I am human, too, you know. However, I have been pickier when I shop and at times have told my husband that I wasn't even in the mood to shop. Gasp! I don't know, maybe the tide is shifting and I need to love what I am wearing now to wear it. So, no more maybes. Here is the plan I'm sticking to after cleaning out my closet.
The Three Item Plan
At the beginning of every season, I will allow myself to purchase just three items. I am looking not to replace the 100 pieces I have tossed, but to invest in pieces that will get more wear. Do these have to be splurges? No. They could be a pair of $40 shoes as long as I wear them and wear them often. That is what I mean by quality. I have to see its worth in wearability. Being limited to only three items will be hard, but doable. There are only a few exceptions to the rule:
Undergarments: These need to be replaced often, so they will not be included in my three-item plan.
Beauty Products: Mascaras should be replaced every three months for hygienic reasons, and my skincare is non-negotiable. This applies to wardrobe pieces only.
Gifts: Anything that is gifted will not be included; however, if I get a gift card and use it to purchase an item, then it counts towards the three.
Brand Collaborations: Sometimes my job has a few nice perks. At times, I get offered these projects that involve gifted wardrobe items. This will not be included. However, I will be just as picky about these items, as I do not want to start creating another "maybe" pile.
Why the torture? Because I had 100 items in my closet that I barely wore. Will I save more money? Maybe or maybe not. I'm not limiting myself to an actual budget. If the item is worth the splurge and something I know I will wear regularly, then I will buy it. So maybe I will spend the same amount on 12 pieces that I did on that 100 or maybe not.
I will say this, this will be hard so I need a few of you to join me on this! Feel free to tag me on purchases using the hashtag #3ItemPlan. Who's in?

8 At-Home Remedies Your Grandma Swears By That Actually Work
Readers, it's time to thank your grandma. Those crazy Latin at-home remedies she showered on you when you were under the weather might have actually worked. In fact, Dr. Keith Roach, associate professor of clinical medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City, says that even the rituals that don't have any scientific backing could work - just because you believe in them. "The placebo effect is powerful," he said.
While there are certain Latin cures the doctor advises you should skip when you're sick (like anything involving raw egg, which can carry salmonella, or a shot of alcohol, which can actually be dangerous to your liver during certain illnesses), he weighed in on why some of the most popular get-better-soon treatments that your grandma used actually, truly work. I Tried the Viral Red Wine Spaghetti Recipe, and Here's What Happened
Since both cooking spaghetti in tomato sauce and Martha Stewart's one-pot pasta hack turned out to be total failures, I had to see if the same was true for Food and Wine's spaghetti cooked in red wine. Spoiler alert: it was the opposite. Thousands of people, like me, were intrigued by the publication's recipe video that went viral on Facebook, so I had high hopes that the pasta would taste as delicious as it looked. The verdict is in, and all I can say is this fast and easy dish will no doubt be added to my regular dinner rotation.
The recipe involves simple pantry staples (salt, olive oil, garlic, red pepper flakes, parsley, walnuts, and parmesan), but the red wine adds a slightly sweet, rich flavor that's unlike anything you've had before. I used Cabernet because that's what I like drinking, but you could use any dry red wine. You boil an entire bottle of wine (plus a little more from a second bottle) with a few cups of water before cooking the pasta al dente. The fascinating part is the noodles transform colors as they cook. What starts as regular spaghetti quickly develops a deep, purlish red as it absorbs the liquid. Many of our tasters mistook the noodles for whole-wheat spaghetti and even soba.
As a hardcore pasta-lover, I was pleasantly surprised how light, flavorful, and sophisticated this pasta dish turned out. I'm obsessed, but I'm not the only one. Other taste testers (aka my co-workers) made comments like, "I love this. I can't get enough." "Simple and tasty." "Literally amazing."
So, without further ado, it's your turn to try this amazing technique.

There's Going to Be a New Harry Potter Book - This Is Not a Drill
Are you sitting down? It doesn't matter, because you need this news anyway. You know how there's a play called Harry Potter and the Cursed Child coming to the stage in London this year? Maybe you thought, "I love Harry Potter, but I can't afford to go all the way to London." Well, now you don't have to! The script for the play is becoming a book. That's right - an eighth Harry Potter book. "As the U.S. print publisher, Scholastic introduced Harry Potter and J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World to American readers nearly 20 years ago and experienced firsthand the anticipation and excitement of the publication of each of the books over the years," said the president of Scholastic Trade, Ellie Berger, in a statement. "We are thrilled to publish Harry Potter and the Cursed Child this Summer." This Summer! Here's the synopsis:
It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn't much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband, and father of three school-age children.
While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes darkness comes from unexpected places.
While the play is by Jack Thorne, the story was written in collaboration with J.K. Rowling and John Tiffany. Basically, this is going to be magical.

Watch Lana Del Rey's Trippy, 11-Minute-Long Music Video For "Freak"
Lana Del Rey has finally released her 11-minute-long music video for "Freak," and it's every bit as trippy, hazy, and eyebrow-raising as you might expect from the singer-songwriter. The video is a collaboration with fellow musician Father John Misty and gives a haunting glimpse into what looks like the life of an acid-popping cult leader, with Del Rey playing a doe-eyed member of his harem. The song, off of her fourth album, Honeymoon, runs a little over five minutes before it's replaced with Claude Debussy's "Clair de Lune." Watch the druggy video above, and then check out her song "Big Eyes."

We've seen some pretty insane Beyoncé dance videos in the past - remember that crazy "7/11" video from 2014? - but this is a whole new level of domination. I Tried the Ridiculous New Instagram App Everyone's Obsessed With
If you've ever wanted to know what your babies with Leonardo DiCaprio would look like, now is your chance. Using a free app called MSQRD.me (think "masquerade"), you can transform your selfies with a variety of filter options, ranging from Darth Maul to a polar bear to Leo. The entertaining camera tool, which operates like a more intuitive version of Snapchat's face-distorting filters, is quickly taking over Instagram - celebrities like Cara Delevingne can't get enough! So naturally, upon discovering the types of ridiculous effects made possible with the app, I decided to download MSQRD and try it out for myself.
The filtering tool is refreshingly easy to use, with near-instant facial recognition and simple sharing options for videos and selfies. According to the app (currenlty available just for iOS), more filters are in development and set to launch soon; in the meantime, I tried out some of the most hilarious options currently available. Here are some of my favorite results from this mid-workday selfie session! (But a word to the wise before attempting this at home . . . seeing yourself as Donald Trump may cause permanent emotional damage.)

How Sex and the City Helped Me Through My First Big Breakup
"I deserve better than this." I was already crying. I wasn't even looking at him. I mean, I couldn't even bring myself to look at him. Instead, I sat and stared at the sunset, wondering how we'd ended up here. Underneath the sound of my pounding heart, I thought about how this was so some stupid movie scene from some stupid romantic comedy. Sitting by a fountain on a college campus, one boy breaking up with another boy as the sun dips below the horizon on another day. The sky was fiery red. The end of a day, the end of a relationship. Inside, I scoffed. Outside, I kept talking out loud.
"I deserve someone who loves me and wants to be with me." More tears. The platitudes kept coming out of me. I couldn't really stop them, but I also didn't want them to. I wasn't really saying them to John. I was sort of saying them to myself, although I didn't believe anything I was saying. I guess I was hoping the words would hang there in the air long enough to land on my skin and sink back in.
I looked at John. He was crying, too. There was nothing left to say. I'd already tried to cling to him and the relationship we had together. But it hadn't worked. I didn't have as much power over the universe as I thought. I think he left first. And I sat there. Glum, still crying, still sort of hoping he'd come back. After a while, I moped away with dragging feet and heavy shoulders, and I slumped right into the open arms of Carrie Bradshaw.
There I was: a single, heartbroken, 22-year-old gay man, and I'd never watched Sex and the City. I knew, on some level, that I would at some point. I personally considered it some sort of right of passage. So, when I found myself truly devastated by love for the first time, it felt right. So I tried to let go of John, and welcomed Carrie, Miranda, Samantha, and Charlotte in his stead.
It became a nightly ritual. After I suffered through all my college lectures for the day, I'd watch one or five or ten episodes. There was usually pizza. My roommate Molly often watched with me, which honestly was the best kind of support I could get from a friend. Just having someone next to you can go a long way.
I started my journey. I walked by Carrie's side. I watched her meet Mr. Big in the very first episode, right after she and her friends agree to stop looking for perfection and start having sex "like men." I watched this stunning, empowered, sharp-witted writer fret and worry as I had fretted and worried. Her insecurities and crises mimicked mine - so did her devastation, and her heartbreak.
Carrie tries and fails and tries and fails with Mr. Big. She does her own damage, too - she wrecks the heart of a carpenter named Aiden. A fellow writer, Berger, breaks up with her on a Post-It note. A Russian artist sweeps her off her feet with poetry, songs, lavish gifts, and doting attention. I watched as Carrie's heart gets cracked by the men who don't matter and shattered by the men who do. And each time, she collects the broken pieces and glues them back together. She has the constant strength and supportive help of her friends, of course, and there's always a new man on the horizon, but her resilience and her ability to dust off and move on always struck me.
What does Carrie do? She keeps working. She throws herself into her writing. She turns her heartbreak into words. She plunges into new men. She dishes at brunch with the three most important women in her life. She shops. It's not science, it's easy. She just keeps breathing. Even fierce, established columnists have crappy days at baseball games, where they're eating subpar hotdogs and feeling like hot trash. Carrie makes mistakes. She vows to never date a man ever again. She hurls herself wholeheartedly into singlehood. She dates New York City. She dates more men. She falls in love. She takes next steps. She's happy, and sad, and everything in between. Time after time, she finds herself on the verge of collapse, of utter loss, and she always picks herself up, slips into some Manolo Blahniks, throws on a f*cking fabulous outfit, and moves on. And so, I did the same . . . except, without the Manolos.
My heart hurt a little less with every passing day. I did what Carrie did: I kept living, and I kept breathing. I worked, I wrote, I surrounded myself with friends, and I pressed on. Sometimes, it was hard. Sometimes, I felt fingers curled around my heart, and I thought maybe I wouldn't be able to take another breath, but I always did. The lonely nights started feeling less lonely. It was time that I had needed all along.
I crawled through the Winter and Fall of my senior year with Carrie Bradshaw by my side. I made it to the end of the series by Spring, and I almost felt like myself again. I watched the first Sex and the City movie, in which Mr. Big abandons Carrie on her wedding day. Even after she thinks she's made it to her happy ending, there's still more devastation to come. And still, she rises, even after the biggest blow. She leans on her friends, and she leans hard into her sorrow. And one day, she laughs again.
That Spring, I also found my laughter. The smiles bloomed on my face more and more. I knew, of course, there would always be a chance of sadness ahead, and I knew I'd always hurt a little when I looked back. But if I learned anything from Carrie, it's all just another opportunity to pick myself up, buy an expensive pair of shoes, and keep walking.

Here's Your Guide to the Top Destination to Visit in 2016: Mexico City
Image Source: Esteban Fuentes de Maria
Mexico City is one of the largest, most vibrant cities in the world, so it's no wonder that The New York Times recently named it the number one place to visit in 2016. I'm from Puebla, just an hour's drive outside of Mexico City. My friends and I love to head into the city on weekends to soak up the rich culture. Whether it's a show, a concert, or a nightclub, there is literally never a dull moment.
If you are planning on visiting the top destination to travel to this year or have already booked a trip, here's an insider guide to all the must-see places. Consider this your ultimate Mexico City bucket list.
Teotihuacan
Image Source: Esteban Fuentes de Maria
This imposing city of the gods, located on the outskirts of Mexico City, preserves the remains of one of the most important civilizations of Mesoamerica, the Aztecs. It offers majestic buildings, including The Pyramid of the Sun, the Temple of Quetzalpapalotl, and the Avenue of the Dead. The beauty of this place and its mystical energy will amaze you. Plan to spend an entire day here.
Museo Soumaya
Image Source: Esteban Fuentes de Maria
If you're into the arts, the Soumaya Museum has one of the most impressive collections in Mexico City. Sponsored by the Carlos Slim Foundation and free of charge to visitors, the Soumaya offers some of the best exhibits in paintings, sculptures, coins, and folk art.
Museo Frida Kahlo in Coyoacán
Definitely one of the most interesting museums in Mexico City, it's located in Kahlo's childhood home - where she grew up before meeting her famous painter husband, Diego Rivera. The museum is a walk down Kahlo's life as a feminist painter, through her art, quotes, and photographs. It's packed with a punch of color and will not disappoint. Plan to arrive early before the crowds get there; however, once you are in, it will not take long to make your way through.
Next, walk out into the neighborhood of Coyoacán, the cultural and colonial heart of the city. This vibrant area is thriving with restaurants, bookstores, sidewalk cafes, and a quaint plaza where you can sit and people-watch while enjoying ice cream from the shops surrounding it. Be sure to take a walk through the historical monuments and amazing gilded churches, too.
Castillo de Chapultepec
The Chapultepec Castle is witness to the history of Mexico, located at the top of the Chapultepec hill and in the middle of Mexico City's version of Central Park. Originally a military school, it later served as the home of Emperor Maximilian and his wife, Carlota, before the Mexican government executed Maximilian and Carlota went mad from grief. It has beautiful gardens and artifacts full of history. You can take a leisurely stroll up the hill until you reach the castle and enjoy the amazing view of the city.
Basílica de Guadalupe
This is a place where history and faith intersect in a simply extraordinary way. Visited each year by more than 12 million faithful, the Basílica is located just at the foot of Tepeyac Hill and is considered one of the leading Catholic campuses across America. Its scale and its importance will astound you.
Masaryk (Polanco-Shopping)
Looking for a place to see and be seen? When it comes to shopping, Avenida Presidente Masaryk is the most exclusive street in the city. With its designer boutiques and jewelry stores, Mazaryk provides a sophisticated atmosphere (similar to Rodeo Drive) with some of the finest hotels, the most exclusive art galleries, and the trendiest restaurants. Speaking of food - lunchtime in Mexico City does not begin before 2 p.m., so don't bother showing up to a restaurant before then.
Palacio de Bellas Artes
Image Source: Esteban Fuentes de Maria
Where to begin? This Fine Arts Palace is such an imposing structure. It's home to the National Symphony, the Mexican Opera Company, the National Dance Company, and the world-famous Folkloric Ballet, as well as a museum with murals by Mexico's most famous artists: José Clemente Orozco, David Alfaro Siqueiros, Rufino Tamayo, and Diego Rivera.
If you're into art, the facade is mostly neoclassical with some touches of art noveau, yet when you enter the grand foyer, the style changes to art deco - it's such a visual treat. Plan to attend one of the musical or dance events there, if you can. At the very least, walk by and notice how the palace, like many of the surrounding buildings, is sinking, because it's sitting on a dried-up lakebed from the Aztec time.
Palacio de Correos
Also known as the Main Post Office, it's a jewel of architecture with its eclectic mix of styles ranging from Renaissance revival to art deco. The interior is filled with lots of gold and intricate ironwork. Since admission is free, it's definitely worth going.
Zócalo and Cathedral (Centro)
The historic center of the city, with its imposing cathedral on one side and the Presidential Palace on the other, faces one of the largest squares in the world: the Zócalo. All the streets leading into the Zócalo are a reflection of Mexico's culture and history.
Xochimilco
Located in the south of the city, Xochimilco means "place of flowers" in Nahuatl. The name was given to the area because almost the entire population in the neighborhood works in the cultivation of flowers. Arrive around lunchtime, hire a trajinera - the large barges adorned with fresh flowers - and plan to spend the afternoon floating through the canals. Sit back and let the barge driver do all the work. Food and music barges floating by will complete your festive afternoon.
Restaurants
If you're interested in exploring Mexico City's food scene even more, these are the restaurants you should have on your radar.
