Exclusive Pictures: Jake Gyllenhaal Is Your Tragic Movie Crush in Demolition
Most humans with a pulse have had a crush on Jake Gyllenhaal for years, though there hasn't been a Jake Gyllenhaal movie in a long time that has inspired that much swooning - but that ends with Demolition. In the Jean-Marc Vallée film, which I fell head over heels for at TIFF, Gyllenhaal plays a widower who deals with his grief in a variety of unconventional ways. The sad subject matter makes for a dynamic role for the actor to show a lot of range - and superficially, for him to show a lot of his most handsome side. We have a batch of exclusive pictures from the film, out April 8, which showcase Gyllenhaal and his equally talented costars, including Naomi Watts.

Is Your Favorite Airline About to Be Purchased by a Competitor?
Goodbye, guaranteed free WiFi; goodbye, hilarious - albeit slightly annoying - onboard safety tune; goodbye, dimmed purple lights; goodbye to the crowd-favorite airline: Virgin America. At least, that's the word on the street. But don't freak out just yet: on top of an offer from Alaska Air, JetBlue has also expressed interest in buying the San Francisco-based Virgin America.
We're not sure about Alaska Air, but a JetBlue and Virgin America merger would not be an utter catastrophe . . . if there were two airlines that belonged together, it would be them. Remember when JetBlue offered a free round-trip ticket to a plane full of people if they could unanimously decide on a destination? That's airline fun we will always support. Bloomberg notes that JetBlue would be a likely buyer so it could expand its West Coast presence.
In a market where most airlines are posting losses, it goes against the trend that Virgin America earned $201.5 million last year. Other airlines obviously want another slice of the pie, but since nothing is official yet, you can continue to cherish your flights on Virgin America. Just be prepared if it does announce a sale!

The interviewees in SoulPancake's video certainly have, and we love all the amazing tidbits they share. There's the 80-year-old man (who's in fantastic shape, by the way!) with the belief that you only succeed by keeping your eyes and ears open, and the 17-year-old with "get comfortable being uncomfortable" as her leading principle in life. There's a whole range of ages - all the way up to 105! - but every piece of advice is meaningful and can be applied to our own lives. Check out these below (the ages are in black on the left side).
And finally, my all-time favorite.
There's No Right Way to Be a Parent, but Does This Mom's List of Mistakes Go Too Far?
One afternoon when we were still living in New Zealand, I sat on the couch pretty much topless, as one is when nursing a...
Posted by Mama Lion Strong on Sunday, March 27, 2016
Whether you are a new mom or have years of raising kids under your belt, you're bound to have made mistakes along the way. One mom shared her personal list of major parenting snafus in an effort to foster a spirit of understanding and support among parents.
In her intimate Facebook post, the mother of three first recounted an incident when she was breastfeeding her newborn while her older two boys were playing in their gated backyard.
The couch faced the back deck and I had our garden doors open to the back yard. I wasn't watching TV or looking at my phone, I was just staring into space not thinking of anything in particular . . . Probably wondering how I was going to find the energy to make supper. I could see my 4-year-old son playing on the slide, but the 2 year old was out of sight - not unusual as we had a very large, gated yard.
I didn't even have time to cover myself before a woman came around the corner, a look of fury on her face and my two year old on her hip. She started yelling the second she saw me. "Do you know where I just found your child?"
By then she had glanced down and noticed my nursing baby on one side, and me fumbling with a leaky breast and a nursing bra on the other side. Perhaps she could even see the deep, dark bags under my eyes. All at once I was horrified and ashamed but praying that this woman would take pity on me. I thought, please let her see that I am already failing at life. I don't need her to tell me.
She regained her composure but instead of showing me compassion, chose to continue lecturing me. "He was on the road," she hissed. "Cars come flying over that hill and they wouldn't even have seen him! You are lucky I came along when I did."
Jen let the gravity of the situation hit her and was guilt-ridden by the thought of something happening to her child, especially an accident under her own care.
However, this wasn't the last accident her kids endured. Here, a sampling of her complete list:
- "We never figured out how he got out of the yard that day. It happened one more time, when a repairman left the gate open. That time my husband found him just as he was stepping out on the street."
- "A few months after that, my oldest son fell in the backyard and split his head open."
- "A year after that we were back living in Canada and our middle son (clearly the escape artist) was found wandering around outside in boots and a t-shirt in -20C/-4F weather."
- "Six months after that we were in a busy downtown area and I lost my oldest son. He just biked away from us."
- "A few weeks ago I walked into the kitchen and my youngest (now two) had a butcher knife in his hands and was trying to cut a block of cheese on the floor."
This mother has shared her experiences in hopes that others will meet future parenting missteps with support instead of judgment. "Next month it will be something else. Next year something else," Jen wrote. "We really don't know if one day a terrible tragedy will befall our family - because of a lag in supervision, a safety measure we forgot to take, a lapse in judgment, a child's curiosity, a teenage boy's risk. We don't know because accidents happen."
After reading this mom's list of mistakes, Facebook commenters were torn with whether she deserves their sympathy or if she should start taking responsibility. What do you think?
Adele's Rant About Breastfeeding in the Middle of a Show Was Obviously Awesome
Wrapped in a British flag, the queen of the music world and mommy game, Adele, paraded around her concert stage last week and chatted with her crowd about Mariah Carey, wearing her own merchandise with her face on it, and - in response to a fan's comment - breastfeeding. Her reply, as you could imagine, was given fast, contained tons of profanity, and was paired with her usual, effortless humor.
"Breastfeeding mummies? You know what, the pressure on us is f*cking ridiculous, and if you're one of those people who puts the pressure on you can go f*ck yourselves. Because it's hard, some of us can't do it. I managed about nine weeks, and now my boobs . . . I mean, I'd trip over them but I've got a very good push-up bra.
Breastfeed if you can, but don't worry, cow's milk is just as good. . . . All I wanted was to breastfeed my kid, and now I feel like, if I was in the jungle back in the day my kid would be dead because all my milk's gone. It's not funny!"
Watch the video to hear her hilarious little quips, and try not to be too upset that you weren't actually there to witness this amazing rant firsthand.

Not only did Josh look oh so charming as he joked around with Colin O'Donoghue (Captain Hook), but Ginnifer also had that pregnancy glow as she covered up her growing baby bump. The actress, who is already mom to son Oliver, is currently expecting her second child with Josh.

Prince William and Kate Middleton's Upcoming Tour of India Promises to Be a Powerful Cultural Experience
Prince William and Kate Middleton are leaving the comforts of Kensington Palace for an exciting trip to India next month! The official tour, which will kick off the second week of April, is the proud parents's first since visiting New York in 2014, and it already sounds like they have quite the itinerary lined up.
Will and Kate's first day in Mumbai on April 10 will be a study in extremes when they enjoy a game of cricket, go to the poorest parts of the city, and later check out the glamorous Bollywood nightlife. The next day they'll venture to New Delhi for an emotional journey to the spot where Indian independence leader Mahatman Gandhi was assassinated in 1948, as well as participate in a garden party celebration to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II's 90th birthday. After leaving New Delhi, the royal pair will go to Kaziranga National Park to observe conservation efforts and check in on the Elephant Family charity, an organization that Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, supports. The couple's following two days will be spent in Bhutan, where they'll visit with the country's king, queen, and newborn son. The week-long trip will round out with a tour of the Taj Mahal on April 16, the spot where Princess Diana made an iconic visit to in 1992.
In addition to Will and Kate's tour of India, the royal family has a whole lot planned for 2016, so keep an eye out for more updates!

This Hysterical Newborn Photo Proves That Babies Just Don't Care About Your Own Agenda
So .... This happened today! In case anyone wants to know what really happens during a newborn session.
Posted by Abbie Rogers Photography on Thursday, March 3, 2016
When parents plan a picture-perfect photo shoot with their newborns, they hope to leave with priceless images that show the special bond between parent and child. Luckily for one couple, their talented photographer managed to snap all of the intimate moments - including the exact instant their precious baby boy started peeing on Mom and Dad.
Considering that this little one was warm and naked for an extended period of time during this photo shoot, it shouldn't come as a surprise that he ended up relieving himself. But Abbie Rogers from Abbie Rogers Photography managed to catch an epic snapshot that showcased the baby boy midaction along with his parents' hysterical reactions.
Abbie told the Daily Mail Australia that this sort of thing happens during almost every newborn shoot but she's never caught it on camera before. "I had stepped down because he had started squirming and as soon as I did it happened so I snapped one quick image," Abbie said. "When you have little boys this happens a lot and this was the couple's third boy so it wasn't really a shock. We all had quite a good laugh."
While this image shows the less glamorous side of parenthood, it's a real and relatable moment that's bringing a good chuckle to many parents across the world.
After Another Girl Died in a Bouncy Castle, Should Inflatables Be Banned For Good?
The first time a bouncy house was carried away - with children still inside it - by heavy winds, it was deemed a freak accident. But because it has happened again . . . and again, it's no longer just some tragic fluke. It's a genuine cause for concern.
During an Easter Fair in Essex, England, this weekend, 7-year-old Summer Grant was playing in a Toy Story bouncy castle when a strong gust of wind swept up the dome-shaped inflatable structure, carrying her over trailers and caravans in the park before landing 500 feet away.
The incident - horrifically witnessed by her father, who chased after the house, and younger sister - left the girl seriously injured when the castle finally crashed to the ground on a hill, and she later died of those injuries at a nearby hospital.
"It was a sudden gust," Ray Smith, a representative of the Showmen's Guild of Great Britain, told the BBC. "Had it been a consistent wind they would have closed down all the inflatables."
However, other operators opted not to even open their inflatable attractions due to the weather forecast for that day. Smith was confident the fair's organizers properly staked out the castle, but a man and woman have been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter by gross negligence.
Police are investigating the incident and urging any attendees with video of it to come forward. Meanwhile, others are calling for an all-out ban on bouncy castles at public events, particularly considering a similar incident - in which a giant inflatable suddenly collapsed - at the same venue just last year.
Robert Halfon, the Conservative MP for the town, implored such a law, saying all bounce houses "should be banned from town fairs, until we can be sure that they are completely safe, so such a horrific tragedy never happens again."
How to Respond to the Salary Question
The question "What are your salary requirements?" can strike fear into the eager hearts of job seekers. Here, a reader asks for advice on how to respond:
When you are applying for a job and an interviewer asks for your salary requirements, how should you respond, especially if you do not have a current salary?
Our answer: Your salary requirements are quite simply, and honestly, negotiable. You don't have a salary history to divulge, so you really are at a jumping-off point, and your salary will be based not only on what is a fair number but also on the other benefits offered.
If asked for your requirements in a cover letter, write, "My salary requirements are negotiable." Something so simple can help you get your foot in the door for an interview; naming a number too high could make them apprehensive about bringing you in, and identifying a number too low could hurt your chances of securing the best possible salary. If you've done thorough salary research using the Internet, made phone calls, and had discussions with other first-year associates, you could name a salary range, but only do so if you're very comfortable and confident that you've gathered accurate information.
It's also likely that you will be asked about salary during your interview. Prevent a deer-in-headlights reaction by having a prepared response. Choose from two options: Respond by saying something along the lines of, "My salary is negotiable considering other benefits and what your firm thinks is a reasonable start." The other choice would be to mention a salary range that leaves plenty of room for negotiation.
5 Things You've Been Wanting to Know About Gwen Stefani's Breakup Album
Gwen Stefani has a new interview in the April issue of GQ Magazine, and it seems there's only one thing she wants to talk about: the truth. It all started back in August, when Gwen divorced Gavin Rossdale after 13 years of marriage. The shocking breakup led to a scathing new song called "Used to Love You." More songs came out, including that song about Blake Shelton, called "Make Me Like You," and Gwen opened up about her divorce, even going so far as to nearly break down in tears on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Before we knew it, Gwen had a new album: This Is What the Truth Feels Like. Just in time for the record's March release, read the singer's newest quotes about her music and her divorce, straight from GQ.
- Putting all that drama out there is kind of a strange task. "It's been such a whirlwind doing a record during the craziest, most unbelievable time in my life. Normal people, in real life, we don't talk to people we don't even know about personal things! It's such a weird process. I've done it half of my life since I've been in a band."
- The experience was actually more cathartic than sad. "It was so fun. Part of it wasn't fun. 'Fun' isn't the right word. Magical and spiritual. I can't believe all those songs came out. They're going to capture that time period of my life in such a magical, perfect way. I got a hold of things by writing those songs and giving them a little place where they can live, instead of being all over the place in my mind."
- The new album was her way of picking herself up and dusting herself off. "I did not think anything. I wasn't thinking. I was feeling and I was dying. And then I was just like, You can't go down like this! You have to turn this into music. You have to try, at least. I was so embarrassed by just everything. I just didn't want to be that person that just went down after all of that."
- The album wasn't about making new music, it was about processing everything that happened. "Everything happens so fast. It's all happening in real time in the sense that, 'Used to Love You' came out only a couple weeks after I wrote it. The only reason I did that was just being honest. There's been a lot of dishonesty around me, and I just don't understand that because it's just not how I live. I didn't want to make a record: I just wanted to not die. That's it. The fact that now I have a record and people are hearing it, it just blows my mind."
- She got by with the support of her loved ones. "I got the perfect combination of people to really support me and make me feel confident. It was an amazing awakening. I walked into the session and I was like, 'You gotta know, I don't care about anything except the truth right here.'"
Kate Middleton Says the Royal Family Teases Her About This 1 Thing All the Time
The new documentary on Queen Elizabeth II, Our Queen at 90, aired in the UK on Sunday night and proved to be very enlightening indeed. Not only did it reveal Prince George's adorable nickname for his great-grandmother and the surprising gift Kate Middleton once gave the queen for Christmas, but also the fact that one of the royal family's favorite activities is teasing Kate for being . . . wait for it . . . too friendly.
"She has been very generous and not, sort of, been forceful at all in any of her views," Kate said about her grandmother-in-law. "I feel she's been there as a gentle guidance really for me. Everyone teases me in the family that I spend far too long chatting so I think I have still got to learn a little bit more and pick up a few more tips." If that doesn't confirm your love for the down-to-earth princess, nothing will. Check out which royal traditions Kate and Prince William are dedicated to keeping alive for their children, and then see photos from their fun St. Patrick's Day outings over the years!

Parents should feel safe dropping their children off at school every day - especially parents of children with special needs - so when Sarah Patterson dropped her 4-year-old son off at school last Thursday, she was not expecting to see a surveillance video of his teacher harming him later that day.
Amelia Stripling, 71, worked as a special-education teacher within the Tift County School District in Georgia for over 20 years, but this video showing her thrusting her knee into a 4-year-old's back, sending him flying through a door, has caused her to resign from her position at Tift County Pre-K Center. Though the young boy with special needs wasn't injured, the district reported the incident to the Division of Family and Children Services.
Stripling turned herself in to the police after a warrant for her arrest was issued and has been charged with second degree cruelty to a child. See the shocking surveillance video above.
The Reason Pez's Easter Egg Hunt Was Canceled Will Make You Shake Your Head
Pez's annual Easter egg hunt in Orange, CT, was unexpectedly canceled this Saturday after parents chaotically descended upon the field, aggressively searching for the hidden eggs. Now we don't know if that makes us want to laugh or cry.
The event was set to begin at 10:30 a.m., however, guests were supposed to be let in periodically by age group. For example, the older kids, age 9 and up, were to be let in at 11 a.m. Unfortunately, many attending parents weren't having any of that, and they instead just rushed the field so they could get to all those chocolate-filled plastic gems.
One attendee told CNN, "The parents just bum-rushed that area. When my son left, he had a broken basket, and he was hysterically crying."
As a result, Pez prematurely shut down the event and promised to compensate guests who would be going home empty-handed. In a later press release, a representative for the candy company said, "We made efforts to get everyone something before they left and passed out tons of candy and coupons," adding, "Due to the actions of a few, the good intent turned into a mess."
While we understand that Easter egg hunts can be a little competitive for the little ones, there's no reason for parents to be so eager that it then becomes unsafe for everyone involved.

The animated Caped Crusader is voiced once again by Will Arnett, who originally made his hilarious debut in 2014's The Lego Movie. Two teaser trailers have been released so far, and they're full of his trademark cocky lines, Wayne Manor, a peek at a Lego version of the Justice League, and plenty of breakdancing. Don't Even Try to Watch the Lights Out Trailer by Yourself
Ready to get your face scared off? OK, that might be an exaggeration, but Lights Out looks incredibly scary. Teresa Palmer (The Choice) stars as Rebecca, a woman who returns home to find the spirit that once haunted her is now haunting her little brother (Gabriel Bateman). The ghostly girl only appears when the lights go out, and she may or may not be their mother's (Maria Bello) ill-fated childhood friend. The premise sounds relatively straightforward when it comes to horror, but good luck getting through this trailer without jumping out of your seat. Check it out, and prepare yourself for the many horror movies coming out in 2016. The movie is out on July 22!

We're inching ever closer to the season six finale of The Walking Dead, and we're starting to feel like we're in for a harrowing, bleak, and devastating conclusion to the season. This Is How Bella Thorne Went From Child Star to Fashion It Girl
It's hard to believe Bella Thorne is only 18 years old. The redheaded actress has been on the red carpet and sitting front row at fashion shows for years, and it seems like ages ago that she was sharing the screen with best friend Zendaya as part of Disney Channel's Shake It Up.
It's probably because even when Bella was only 7 years old, she was striking the perfect pose for the cameras and wearing the cutest, most fashionable dresses she could get her hands on. Keep scrolling to see what we mean by taking a walk down red carpet memory lane with Bella.
Kelly Rowland Is Launching a Makeup Line For the "Chocolate Girls" Out There
The makeup industry is making strides to better represent people of all skin tones, so when Kelly Rowland announced she was getting into the beauty game, we got seriously excited. The Destiny's Child singer, who is teaming up with her makeup artist Sheika Daley on her upcoming brand, revealed to Essence that their first product will be concentrated on lashes.
She also acknowledged how important it was for the line to have products suited for ladies with darker skin tones, saying, "Definitely making sure we have our chocolate girls covered. Gotta get the chocolate girls in there! We have to have that, you know."
Though there isn't a set launch date for Kelly's makeup line or any information about what the names of the products will be (any chance she'll name something after her BFF Beyoncé?), we're eagerly anticipating her collection. Though we've seen more brands celebrate deep complexions in recent years, the industry still has a long way to go in terms of diversity. Beauty fanatics of all skin tones should have a variety of options to choose from, so Kelly's company will be a welcome addition to the market.

8 Things That Are Decreasing Your Productivity at Work
You're at work, and you just can't seem to focus. Maybe it's because you didn't get enough sleep the night before (read: you spent way too much time watching Netflix), or because you skipped breakfast this morning. Or maybe it's neither: maybe, just maybe, you're wasting time at work doing things other than . . . work. That said, here are the eight biggest time-sucks when you're in the office, plus solutions for increasing productivity so you can do your best job ever.
1. Texting.
How much time do you spend texting your roommate about what to make for dinner tonight? "Turn off your phone during peak work hours!" says Hallie Crawford, career coach and founder of HallieCrawford.com. And if you really must know if he's cooking shrimp scampi or chicken parmesan, wait till lunch to hound him.
2. Leaving your office door open.
"Shut it when you have an important project to focus on," Crawford says simply. Leaving your door open invites coworkers to come in and chat, which is OK . . . once in a while.
3. Talkative coworkers.
And speaking of chatty colleagues, sometimes you just have to shut 'em down (politely!). "It's amazing to have friends at the office, but keep in mind you're at the office," says Jill Jacinto, a millennial career expert for WORKS. "Don't let personal conversations with your work BFF go on and on." Her easy fix? "Make plans for an after-work happy-hour to get the lowdown."
4. Checking your email.
You'd rather be doing anything but totaling those sales reports, so you refresh your email sixteen times in a row (maybe you got a new one that requires your urgent response!). "Log out so it doesn't beat you," Crawford says. Seriously! Exit out of the tab. Give yourself a fifteen minute timer for the next time you can check it - and only allow yourself three minutes once you're logged on.
5. Going out for lunch.
Taking your sweet time at Chili's so you can delay that task your boss has been bugging you about? Not your best idea. "If [your lunch breaks] last too long, bring your lunch a couple of days a week," Crawford says. It'll take you twenty minutes to polish off your peanut butter sandwich, and then you can jump back into your work with minimal time wasted.
6. Long meetings.
"Make sure there's an agenda and someone to keep time and lead the meeting," Crawford says. "Have everyone prep in advance." Your team should be striving for quick, concise, and to-the-point meetings, so you have more of your day to work on projects.
7. Online chats.
Those work chatrooms the company set up are great for when you need a quick response from your coworker about the upcoming marketing campaign. However, they're not intended to be used for discussion about your cat's latest antics. "Ween yourself off of [IM chat]," Jacinto says. "Don't be the first to IM. Know that you can share and chat on your personal time!" Jacinto also recommends you schedule a specific period of time in your day to log on and chat - during your afternoon slump is best, because it'll pick you up.
8. Not prioritizing.
We're all guilty of it: working on the stuff that isn't time-sensitive simply because it's easier. "Create your to-do list for the next day the day before so you don't waste time in the morning," Crawford says. Around 4:30 each afternoon, create a quick doc on the things you're going to take on tomorrow. Look at that - you're well on your way to a higher, better performance at work!

4 Genius Mascara Hacks That Will Change the Way You Do Your Eyelashes
Ask women what makeup step they won't leave the house without, and the majority will respond: mascara. These itty-bitty brittle brushes have potent power to transform your eyes - opening them, brightening them, and making them appear more wide set. Some say they feel naked without any lash enhancement.
Since we are all so obsessed with and devoted to wearing mascara, we asked Nars makeup artist Niko Lopez how to take one wand (Nars Audacious, specifically) and manipulate it four ways to create different lash looks. The results are mesmerizing.

The Me Before You Trailer Will Wreck Your Heart in the Best Possible Way
An extended trailer for the highly anticipated Me Before You is here, and fans of the beloved book need not worry: it looks every bit as wonderful as we all hoped. As Ed Sheeran's "Photograph" plays in the background (and Kleenex's stock no doubt skyrockets), the trailer introduces Louisa "Lou" Clark (Game of Thrones' Emilia Clarke), a bubbly, working-class woman who finds herself as the new caretaker for the wealthy, quadriplegic William Traynor (The Hunger Games's Sam Claflin). Their relationship starts off rocky but ends up being a life-changing experience for both of them. Watch the touching trailer above, and then check out the rest of the all-star cast.
Ivanka Trump Shows Off Her Newborn Baby Boy With the Sweetest Photo
The Trump family received the sweetest treat of all this Easter! Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner, welcomed their third child and shared a sweet photo of both mom and baby shortly after his birth. "Jared and I feel incredibly blessed to announce the arrival of Theodore James Kushner," the fashion designer and entrepreneur posted on Twitter.
While baby Theodore's debut was a low-key one, for a long time running, it seemed People had a monopoly on introductory celebrity baby photos. Nicole Richie, Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Lopez, and the Jolie-Pitts all turned to the well-established magazine to show off their newest family members. However, today, many celebs are turning to competitors who are doling out generous offerings to new parents. Others like Kim Kardashian are releasing their own photos - either on their own or through photo agencies - to bypass the whole magazine scenario. See how your favorite celebrity parents debuted their little ones, and tell us how you think the newest babies will be introduced to us!
A Few Unexpected Side Effects of Becoming a Parent
When you have a baby, you see firsthand how life turns sideways in the early months - depending on the sort of baby you get, your capacity for not-nearly-enough sleep, the amount of extra hands around the house, and your own tolerance for wearing the mantle of incompetence. Welcome to a nearly permanent state. As you venture further into parenthood, there are some strange and unexpected side effects besides wearing baby barf.
You begin showering at night
Because your hands are tied during the day. And because at day's end, you are completely filthy. Showers never felt so good.
You hear phantom cries in the shower
If you do shower while your child is awake, supposedly napping, or supposedly in bed, you will still manage to hear them calling you, in reality, and in your warped mind. The upside is that you can even step out of the shower to lovingly tend to them. Your ears, they are fantastic.
Your nightmares take on a terrifying dimension
I find my kids' nightmares almost amusing. My toddler claims, for example, that at night the wall talks to her. Those woodland creatures we stuck to the wall are more creepy than cute. My own shock me. Sometimes my husband and I will relate a nightmare we had about one of our children, and then we share a sad, stunned moment of silence. Those fears are real and hard to stomach.
You never know where things are: keys, wallet, phone.
If you were absentminded before, now you are underslept, and every time you cannot find something, you have to consider the fact that your child may have placed it, like, anywhere. Your keys might be in the toilet or in your child's rain boot. They might be behind the piano or stuck way deep into the couch. And it only gets worse. That book you were reading? That necklace you wanted to wear? A kid has already put it . . . somewhere.
You will resent that your pets also have needs.
Because everybody poops. You will discover your personal limit for poop. When you hit it, you'll do nearly anything to get your kid out of diapers.
A certain kind of miserly frugality may emerge
You loathe spending money on random "stuff" or even replacing your own tattered socks. And then you drop $100 on kiddie soccer programs.
You don't need a thermometer to tell when your kids are sick
I don't use the hand to the forehead, but I can usually see a fever before I get out the thermometer.
Your kids think you're funny
This is a wonderful side effect: despite having no comic skill or timing, your baby thinks you are hilarious. Usually they first laugh at something unexpected - you sneeze or when you accidentally drop an egg onto the floor. But whatever it is, work it.
44 Completely Rational Reasons My 3-Year-Old Tantrumed Today
We all have rough days, but 44 tantrums in one day is a new record. From our friends at Babyology, read about the hilarious and rational problems that were worth crying about for this 3-year-old!
Have a threenager at home? Please, pull up a chair, pour a glass of wine, and enjoy these completely reasonable reasons my 3-year-old daughter cracked it today. Yes . . . all of these outbursts happened in a 24-hour period. I wish I was making this up.
My daughter's favorite pastime these days is to yell at me. Today, rather than simply struggle through the daily tantrums and tears, I decided to track them. Every time my daughter whined, cried, screamed, kicked, or lay on the floor with her feet in the air, I wrote it down.
My daughter discovered 44 problems worth crying about. And almost half of them occurred before 9 a.m.
- She wanted to wear her Elsa shirt (which is in the dirty clothes pile).
- She put her underwear on backwards.
- I put the wrong episode of Strawberry Shortcake on.
- I didn't get her breakfast quickly enough.
- She didn't want cereal. She wanted oats.
- I gave her the wrong bowl for her oats. She wanted the bowl that her uneaten cereal was in.
- She spilled oats on her knee.
- She wanted the small spoon.
- I gave her the yellow blanket instead of the pink blanket.
- She wanted to wear her Elsa dress instead of her Elsa shirt.
- It's not her birthday today.
- Her seat belt felt funny.
- Her brother looked at her in the car.
- The cat wouldn't let her pick him up by the tail.
- She couldn't open the wrapper to her muesli bar.
- I opened the wrapper to her muesli bar too much.
- Her muesli bar broke in two.
- When coloring in, I used the wrong color of blue for Cinderella's dress.
- I sat on her imaginary friend.
- She put her shoes on the wrong feet.
- Peppa Pig ended.
- I cut her sandwich into triangles.
- I cut her second sandwich into squares.
- I wouldn't let her play in the car.
- I suggested we take a nap.
- She dropped her hat on the road.
- I didn't let her answer the phone.
- I sat on the wrong side of the couch.
- It started to rain.
- I had to cook dinner.
- Her brother talked to her.
- She spilled her water.
- I used the red towel to clean it up. I should have used the pink one.
- I had a shower without her.
- I helped her brother with his homework.
- She lost her doll's pink shoe.
- I asked her to take a bath.
- I asked her to get out of the bath.
- The towel felt itchy.
- Her brother got his pajamas on quicker than she did.
- I turned the page of her bedtime story incorrectly.
- Teddy fell off the bed.
- I didn't tickle her arm properly.
- I yawned.
The next time your toddler screams the house down because you didn't cut his sandwich right, just remember, there is a whole world of moms and dads out there, cutting the crusts off their triangle sandwiches and silently cursing the skies for this difficult stage in parenting.
Please, share the completely illogical reasons your toddler lost it today so I can revel in the fact I am not alone.
And let's prepare to do it all over again tomorrow. Because even the worst of tantrums can be erased with a simple cuddle, kiss, and "I love you, Mommy."
