Is Your Favorite Airline About to Be Purchased by a Competitor?

Goodbye, guaranteed free WiFi; goodbye, hilarious - albeit slightly annoying - onboard safety tune; goodbye, dimmed purple lights; goodbye to the crowd-favorite airline: Virgin America. At least, that's the word on the street. But don't freak out just yet: on top of an offer from Alaska Air, JetBlue has also expressed interest in buying the San Francisco-based Virgin America.

We're not sure about Alaska Air, but a JetBlue and Virgin America merger would not be an utter catastrophe . . . if there were two airlines that belonged together, it would be them. Remember when JetBlue offered a free round-trip ticket to a plane full of people if they could unanimously decide on a destination? That's airline fun we will always support. Bloomberg notes that JetBlue would be a likely buyer so it could expand its West Coast presence.

In a market where most airlines are posting losses, it goes against the trend that Virgin America earned $201.5 million last year. Other airlines obviously want another slice of the pie, but since nothing is official yet, you can continue to cherish your flights on Virgin America. Just be prepared if it does announce a sale!
