The Simple Yet Incredible Thing 1 Cafe Is Doing For Breastfeeding Moms

Isn't this a delightful sight #breastfeedingmothersfriendly The Willows at Willoughby

Posted by Carolyn Hastie on Monday, March 7, 2016

Trying to find a spot to breastfeed your little one can be a difficul task for nursing moms. Between dealing with looks from strangers who have a negative attitude toward breastfeeding in public and the logistics of just finding an available space, many new moms come to expect less-than-pleasant experiences. But one cafe in Australia is making it a point to treat nursing mothers the way that they should be treated - with respect - and its welcoming attitude is being met with applause from many.

Not only does The Willows Cafe in Sydney offer a free cup of tea to breastfeeding moms, but it also has a large sign that says "Breastfeeding moms, pop in, have a free cup of tea if you need a pit stop . . . no need to eat, no need to ask - please relax." This very public invitation sets the tone that this is a welcoming environment for nursing mamas, where they will be greeted with the warmth and support that they deserve.

If You're Looking to Lose Weight, Add These to Your Bowl of Oatmeal

Full of protein and fiber, oatmeal is one of the best foods if you're trying to lose weight. You want to be careful about how you eat this whole grain since buying those sugar-laden packets can turn your breakfast into a nutrition nightmare. Here are some tips on how to make your bowl as healthy as possible.

To increase the fiber and protein: Choose rolled oats over quick oats. They'll take longer to cook, but a half-cup serving offers five grams of fiber and seven grams of protein - the quick oats only offer four grams of fiber and five grams of protein. Rolled oats also take longer to digest, so they'll make you feel fuller for longer. Short on time? Make these overnight oats recipes the night before.

To increase the protein: After your oats have cooked, stir in a tablespoon of almond or peanut butter, half a scoop of protein powder, or half a cup of plain Greek yogurt. Or it may sound weird, but mashing chickpeas into your oatmeal or mixing in pureed beans will add protein and increase the creaminess of your bowl.

To increase the fiber: Cut up some dried apricots or dates, throw in some fresh or frozen berries, or toss in some diced fresh pear or apple. Chia seeds are also bursting with fiber - one tablespoon offers five grams.

To get your fill of omega-3s: Sprinkle on one tablespoon of ground flaxseed. It offers 1.6 grams of omega-3s (1.1 grams is the recommended amount per day).

To decrease the amount of sugar: Instead of adding maple syrup, brown sugar, or honey to your bowl of oats, sweeten your breakfast with unsweetened applesauce, mashed banana, or pureed strawberries.

Dating Site Apologizes For Calling Freckles "Imperfections"

Many redheads with freckles grew up being teased for their unique looks. Now, Match.com is adding insult to injury with a new advertisement.

As part of the company's #LoveYourImperfections series, the above shot of a stunning flame-haired, spotted woman has been plastered throughout the London Underground. "If you don't like your imperfections, someone else will," declared the sign, referring to the model's beauty marks.

Many were outraged and took to Twitter to express their dissatisfaction, with some calling the series "profit by bullying." Twitter user HeatherDeLand added her own sticky notes to the surface of the advertisement. "Sorry, but isn't judging people on skin pigmentation universally regarded as a dickish move?" read the notes. "Advert fixed now," declared Heather.

According to The Guardian, the #LoveYourImperfections series has been running since 2014, but prior billboards were regarded as humorous, calling out such "imperfections" as inability to pronounce a subway stop or failing to get their train pass out on time. None had gone so far as to critique looks until this controversial ad.

Commenters on a blog post discussing the topic on the Ginger Parrot, a website celebrating redheads, were appropriately incensed. "Shame on you Match! You wouldn't think of posting someone of color and calling their skin color an imperfection," said one Facebook user. "My 7 year old daughter has red hair, brown eyes and freckles. I tell her how special her features are. I'm glad I didn't see this poster when out and about with her (and her younger red-haired sister)," remarked another.

Match.com has since apologized. "Our adverts reveal common perceived imperfections and quirks of Brits – these include freckles which some people who have them may see as an imperfection. We think freckles are beautiful and our posters are designed to encourage everyone who has them to be proud," the company said in a statement. "We're sorry if anyone has been offended by our latest ad - that was not our intention – but we're really encouraged to see so many people standing up for what makes them unique."

According to ITV, Match will be removing the billboards as soon as possible. Read on to see some of the tweets that the advertisements inspired.

Prince Harry Says He Sees Queen Elizabeth as His "Boss" More Than His Grandmother

Although Queen Elizabeth II's 90th birthday isn't until the end of April, the royal family has been busy helping her celebrate all month long. In addition to a big birthday bash Kate Middleton and Prince William attended in her honor in India, the documentary Elizabeth at 90 – A Family Tribute has been giving the world an in-depth view into the Queen's life bit by bit over the past few weeks. First, Kate revealed the sweet nickname Prince George has for his great-grandmother, and later talked about the surprising gift she once gave the Queen for Christmas. Now, Prince Harry has opened up about his life with his grandmother, and it definitely doesn't sound like a typical family dynamic.

"I still view her more as the Queen than my grandmother," he says in the documentary. "You have this huge amount of respect for your boss and I always view her as my boss, but occasionally as a grandmother." There's no doubt that the Queen must be more than proud of Harry, thanks to his many philanthropic ventures, including the rousing speech he recently gave in Nepal and his tour through South Africa in November. Despite the fact Harry and the Queen might have a more business-like relationship, it's heartwarming to know he has such a playful one with Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

Meet "Damn, Daniel," the Viral Video That Will Take Over Your Damn Life

"Damn, Daniel." If you haven't been slammed with the phrase at least 1,000 times this year, then we can assure you that your time will come soon, because Daniel and his white Vans are pretty much taking over the Internet.

You might be wondering, "Who TF is Daniel? And why is everyone talking about him?" Well, Daniel made his debut in a 30-second video posted to Twitter on Feb. 15 by his friend Josh. In the video, Josh captures Daniel walking around, smiling, looking cool, and showing off his outfits. Josh, unable to control his amazement at Daniel's swag, compliments his friend by exclaiming, "Damn, Daniel!" Josh seems to especially love it when his bud comes to class "back at it again with the white Vans."

Both terms have since sparked an Internet frenzy and have become the new way to compliment your friends, ignite the love in a bromance, or just be annoying AF. The video has been retweeted over 300,000 times and has since resulted in a variety of memes and even a rap song. The video has become so popular that the two boys behind the video were guests on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and they even have a cameo in the new Weezer music video, "California Kids."

While we still can't put our finger on what makes the video so hilarious, we admit: once you watch this a few times, it'll be hard to not get Daniel (or his white Vans) out of your head. Read on to crack up at some of the hilarious memes.

Prepare to Have This All-Too-Real "Homework" Parody Stuck in Your Head All Day

If you woke up this morning thinking, "You know, I no longer have the lyrics to 'Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)' stuck in my head, and something is deeply missing from my soul," then you came to the right place.

Thanks to the clever parody-making Holderness family, there's a version of Rihanna's buzzy hit "Work" that will have you hooked. Their version, however, is a bit more PG than RiRi's - it's all about frustrations that come with helping our kids do their homework.

And if you've ever been curious as to how Penn and Kim Holderness manage to create these viral parody videos, this one lets you in on their process with a little behind-the-scenes footage. In fact, they solicited the topic, sample buzzwords, and even the song itself from their Facebook fans – so you can thank all of them for the fact that you'll be mumbling "We're doing homework work work work work" for the rest of the day. Or, you know, eternity.

Kate Middleton Gets Asked About Her Weight During a Birthday Bash For the Queen in India

Queen Elizabeth II is ringing in her 90th birthday on April 21, and even though she's not in India with Prince William and Kate Middleton this week, she was still honored with an early birthday bash in a stunning garden in New Delhi. Will and Kate were on hand to cut the queen's cake with a sword, and Kate looked as lovely as usual in a printed top and skirt by Alice Temperley. Prince William addressed the crowd with a moving message about his beloved grandmother, calling her "a remarkably energetic and dedicated guiding force for her family," adding that he was "so glad" that his children, George and Charlotte, are able to get to know their "Gan-Gan."

During the big event, one party guest, Professor Bulbul Dhar-James, asked Kate a potentially touchy set of questions; the professor told People that she inquired, "How do you lose all the weight after having two kids?" to which Kate replied, "I am running after my kids!" She also asked Kate if she was "tired of smiling" at her various appearances: "I'm just reciprocating," Kate reportedly said, adding, "Everyone is so warm." Lea Michele has amassed quite the collection of tiny tattoos, with everything from musical notes from Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" on her shoulder to a gold star on her wrist as a subtle nod to her years playing the role of Glee's HBIC, Rachel Berry. The Scream Queens actress added a few more on Monday night when she comissioned NYC'S Prospect Tattoos to give her two sweet representations of her late grandmother and her late boyfriend, Glee costar Cory Monteith. "I lost my beautiful grandma this week. . .She wasn't your typical grandma," Lea captioned an Instagram photo showing off the itty-bitty coffee cup she got inked on the inside of her finger. "She gave me my first cup of coffee when I was 8 years old. She said something inappropriate to every boyfriend I've ever had. She never made pie or knit me a sweater. But she was my grandma and I loved her. . .More than anything. . .I love you Grandma."

In addition to the coffee cup, Lea also got a subtle and simple number five on her side in honor of Cory's Glee character, quarterback Finn Hudson. Here's the Right Way to Repost Instagram Photos

Instagram is among our first-thing-in-the-morning go-to apps. But its almost too simple interface has us wanting functions available on other social networks, chief among them: the repost (also known as a retweet, reblog, or share depending on your social site of choice). Fear not 'Grammers, discover the ways to share a picture you more than just love and give credit to the original poster while doing so.

  • Repost for Instagram (free for iOS and Android) - View your feed in this app, then tap on a picture you'd like to repost. The user's account and profile picture automatically appear as a bar on the image that can be rotated. Hit repost to open and share the photo in the native Instagram app.
  • Repost on Iconosquare - If you use the web client Iconsquare (formerly Statigram) to view Instagram while on a browser, click on the picture you want to share, and find the repost button below the photo. Select that to preview an image of the to-be-shared pic with a reshare icon in the upper left corner (as seen above). Click "Send me by email," to receive an email from Statigram with the preview image attached. Save that to your phone's photo library and upload to Instagram as normal. Though the original photographer's name appears in the photo, don't forget to give them an extra shout-out in the caption.
  • Repost on Websta - Websta (formerly Webstagram) users can apply the same directions as the above Statigram reposting method and have the picture, marked with the original poster's name, emailed.

Kate Middleton and Prince William Keep the Sweet Moments Coming During Their Indian Trip

Prince William and Kate Middleton have officially kicked off their week-long tour of India and Bhutan. On Sunday, the royal couple touched down in Mumbai, where they paid a visit to the Taj Palace Hotel Memorial and laid wreaths in honor of the victims of the 2008 terror attacks. During the afternoon, Will and Kate, who was clad in a colorful tunic, met with children for a fun game of cricket and were presented with gorgeous flower garlands and tilaks by the locals at the Banganga Water Tank. The duo then made their way back to the hotel, where they wrapped up their night at a Bollywood-inspired charity gala.

On Monday, the pair visited Gandhi Smiriti, an Indian museum dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi in New Delhi, laid a wreath at India Gate Memorial to honor soldiers from Indian regiments that fought in World World I, and attended a Young Entrepreneurs Event in Mumbai. Later that evening, Will and Kate attended a garden party celebrating Queen Elizabeth II's upcoming 90th birthday and cut a birthday cake in her honor.

Will and Kate's tour marks their first official trip since they visited NYC in 2014. The Shockingly Easy Way to Beautify Your Ugly Air Vents

One of the best things about being an interior-design-obsessed person is that you appreciate the small things in your home, from the crown molding on the ceiling down to the air vents on the baseboards. And if those air vents are the standard unattractive ones found in most homes, they might be driving you nuts. That was the situation for blogger Hillary of The Friendly Home.

When repainting her home, she took the boring vent grilles off so she could paint behind them, and when she was done she couldn't bring herself to put them back on. Instead, Hillary decided to beautify her air vents. She purchased some sheet metal with a vibrant pattern on it, cut it to fit over the vents, painted it, and secured it. Et voilà - one less ugly air vent in the world!

Take a peek at the before and after pictures below, and check out the complete tutorial on The Friendly Home.

This Is How Much You Should Really Be Spending on a Baby Shower Gift

Just when you thought the confusion of gift-giving etiquette was behind you once all your friends got married, those weddings have led to the next stress-inducing shopping event: baby showers.

So, how much should you really be spending on your boss, your sister-in-law, or your old roommate? The most important thing is that you give what you feel comfortable giving, but aside from that, the breakdown is actually quite simple.

Co-workers and acquaintances: $25

Don't feel guilty for spending relatively little on gifts at office showers - particularly for employees you barely know. Giving even $15 to $20 is suitable in this case.

Friends: $50

It's standard operating procedure to spend this amount on the vast majority of friends, both old and new.

Close friends and family: $100

For best friends and relatives, consider making more of a splurge. If the baby is a niece, nephew, or godchild, you might want to spend even more, up to $150.

4 Ways to Spend Less Without Anyone Noticing:
If you're concerned about the spending requirements for the growing stack of baby shower invitations you've been sent, all your money is not lost. Here are some financially savvy tips to make the most of your gift:

  • Go in on a big-ticket item with another person or small group. Splitting the cost of a $400 glider among five cousins is a great way to stay under budget while providing the recipient with an essential item they might not have received otherwise.
  • Coupon hunt. Just because the nursing pillow cost $40 at full-price doesn't mean you need to spend that much. If you snag something during a sale or apply a buy-one-get-one-free coupon, consider it a win-win: they get what they wanted while you get to keep some extra dollars in your wallet. Just skip the gift receipts on these.
  • Include something handmade. The art supplies required to knit a hat or crochet a blanket cost far less than the retail price of one. It's polite to include at least one item from the registry, but pairing it with a personally crafted one can save you some cash.
  • Create a theme to make smaller items more substantial. A baby registry often has lots of under-$10 products, and as wanted as those odds-and-ends are, they don't leave a lasting impression. Instead, pull together similar items for a "bath time" theme - lotion, shampoo, towels, wash cloths, and tub toys - or a "chef-in-training" theme with cups, bowls, spoons, and teethers.

We Didn't Realize Flip or Flop's Tarek and Christina Had So Much to Be Grateful For

Every Flip or Flop fan knows that Tarek and Christina El Moussa can turn even the most hopeless-seeming disaster into a profitable success, but they may not know that the HGTV couple's triumphant spirit extends beyond dilapidated homes to harrowing medical situations.

In 2013, registered nurse Ryan Read was tuning in to a Flip or Flop marathon when she noticed a suspicious lump on Tarek's throat. She sent the show's production company an email with her concerns, which prompted Tarek to get the lump checked out. It turned out that the lump, along with other ailments like a cough they had been attributing to Tarek's heavy smoking, was actually a symptom of stage 2 thyroid cancer. The parents of young daughter Taylor were scared but moved forward with signature determination.

Within a month, Tarek had his thyroid and lymph nodes removed and was undergoing iodine radiation. The treatments were not only unpleasant, they also derailed the couple's plans for a second child. Determined to grow their family, Christina underwent in vitro treatments. After one failed attempt and another that sadly ended in miscarriage, their son was conceived. "I had to do one full week in bed. For 13 weeks after that, I couldn't go for a walk and couldn't lift anything over a gallon of milk," Christina told People. "We did everything we could to make sure this one worked."

This August, nearly two years after the diagnosis and a year and a half of being cancer free, the couple welcomed baby Brayden James. We have no doubt the holidays will be extra meaningful in the El Moussa house this year.

Want more Christina and Tarek? Check out season four of Flip or Flop airing Tuesdays at 9pm ET on HGTV and learn 18 things you probably didn't know about the couple here.

This Hilariously Cruel Baby Shower Card Is Actually a Good Warning to Expectant Moms

If you're looking for the perfect gift to give your pregnant loved one, you might consider paging through their registry. If you're wanting to get something for your expectant frenemy or bitter rival, however, we know just the thing - an unassuming baby shower greeting card that delivers a deeply scarring surprise.

Sounds a little intense? That's because it is. Travis and Nick Peterson have created a prank "musical" greeting card that plays the sound of a newborn crying for more than three hours straight. It only stops wailing when the battery dies or if you somehow manage to destroy it - and allegedly, ripping or crushing doesn't cut it. Adding insult to injury, each time you press the sound button, the crying only gets louder and louder. (The video above gives you just a three-minute taste - imagine having that playing for another 177-odd minutes!)

This card - which, rather cruelly, has "the gift that keeps on giving" written inside - is one of several prank cards from Joker Greeting, a company funded by Kickstarter, and it's described as the perfect way to "welcome soon-to-be parents to the joys of parenthood with the soothing sounds of incessant crying."

The sender of the $12 card, which is available for preorder for March, can test out the noise in a safe mode before removing a pull-off tab that enables the nonstop sound when activated.

If you dare give one of these out, consider it a helpful warning of what's to come as well as your not-so-subtle hint that you won't be lining up to help babysit anytime soon.

You're Going to Be Obsessed With AstroTurf After You See This

Wondering what to do with your deck? Wish you had a soft, grassy yard? Want to make a big style statement when outdoor entertaining? Blogger Kristin Jackson of Hunted Interior has just the solution for you: turn your deck into a gorgeous, maintenance-free lawn with AstroTurf! Looking to cover the peeling paint on her deck, Kristin turned to the artificial green stuff and has been head over heels in love with the results ever since.

"After using AstroTurf on a bocce court the year before, we loved the quality and how well it had held up," Kristin explained. "With a small child and little dog who love to run around the deck, we decided the softer AstroTurf was more friendly than splinters from our existing deck."

The installation was relatively simple. She just used a sharp pair of scissors to cut the large roll of AstroTurf to size and recruited a few strong bodies to help lift the heavy roll onto the deck. "It simply unrolled to cover the entire surface and lays as an area rug would," she said.

Forget a lawn mower - while AstroTurf is just as cushy underfoot as real grass, its maintenance is much less demanding. Kristin keeps the surface clean by using a leaf blower to remove dirt and debris. If a spill occurs, she simply rinses it off with water.

Time has not faded Kristin's enthusiasm for her AstroTurf deck. "I would absolutely do it again!" she exclaimed. "We use this space so much more now and enjoy walking around on the soft 'grass.'" We're sold!

Only Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard Would Geek Out This Much at the Game of Thrones Premiere

It's no secret that Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard are one of Hollywood's cutest (and most hilarious) couples, but their intense love of Game of Thrones really does put them on a whole new level. The couple attended the show's season six premiere at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood on Sunday, proving their dedication knows no bounds. The Boss actress took to Instagram to share an intense snap of them posing at the premiere, writing, "Dax and I went to the premiere of #GOT last night. Everyone was in suits and dresses. People were sipping cocktails. We were in tank tops that said 'Stark in the streets, Wildling in the sheets'. We sported temporary tattoos that said Ours Is The Fury and Winter Is Coming. At one point I lifted a cantaloupe in the air and said 'this egg shall change history' and ran out the fire exit." Dax posted the same image, writing simply, "Come correct."

Of course, this isn't the first time we've seen these two show off the funny side to their romance. In addition to making their own music video during a trip to Africa, they also shared a hilarious photo of themselves watching the Parenthood finale last January. You'll LOL When You Hear What the Property Brothers Found Inside the Walls of a Reno

If you've ever been frustrated by the part in the beginning of every episode of HGTV's Property Brothers where Drew shows the family their dream home only to dash their dreams by telling them that the house they've just fallen in love with is comically out of their budget, then you're not alone. Jonathan hates that part, too! "He calls it the Drew jerk part," Drew admitted during the Scott brothers' recent appearance on NPR's beloved quiz show, Wait Wait . . . Don't Tell Me!. "I'm just trying to bring people out of the clouds and show them that they've got to be realistic," Drew justified. Jonathan wasn't buying this explanation, claiming, "If Drew had a hairless cat that he could pet while doing that . . . he would!" We can't stop laughing at the image of Drew showing houses as Dr. Evil!

During the radio appearance, Jonathan and Drew also went on to reveal some of the bizarre things they've come across during home renos. "We've opened walls up to find the craziest, most disgusting things you can possibly imagine," shared Jonathan. "On the more pleasant side, I found an entire hidden antique Playboy collection. On the less attractive side, I've found petrified rats who had chewed through electrical and met their demise."

Drew seconds Jonathan's story, adding the unforgettable tale of a Texas home owner who got rid of a raccoon living inside his walls by ripping back a panel and firing off several rounds of his gun. He succeeded in killing the pest, but "after a couple days, the smell [of the dead animal] started to get to him, plus his electrical and plumbing stopped working because he had shot through it." Yikes! Even though the Property Brothers only answered one of the three quiz questions they were asked correctly, we think these hilarious show insights make their appearance a huge success.

These Over-the-Top Private Mansions Are Located Right on Disney World's Grounds

The Four Seasons is offering two different-size villas, but both are equally elegant. At a whopping 11,192 square feet, the Portfolio Home is the larger of the two variations; it has six bedrooms, a pool, and two guest suites. The Capolavoro design is only slightly smaller at 8,160 square feet and has the same amenities as the Portfolio home - a pool, one guest suite, and six bedrooms. Disney fans will be delighted to know that the Capolavoro home even has a mouse-ears-shaped bathtub; seriously. Residences will obviously also have access to the hotel amenities year round. Start saving, because these mansions will set you back $5 million. We're going to need a few piggy banks.

This Heartbreaking Theory Explains Why Harry Potter's Hogwarts Class Is So Tiny

A question that comes up often in Harry Potter fan circles is about the size of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. JK Rowling describes the magical institution as one of Europe's largest, with hundreds of students attending every school year. But, as book readers are well aware, the series's namesake character seems to have very few classmates, a mere handful of boys and girls in Gryffindor, with similarly scant enrollment of Harry's grade level in Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin.

Well, one Tumblr user has come up with a theory for why Harry Potter's grade level is so small.

http://ift.tt/1ROTzrU

This theory, though heartbreaking considering its implications, has been parroted across Reddit and other fan blogs. It makes sense, right? Given that Harry's parents were killed when he was only 15 months old, it would explain tiny class sizes immediately surrounding Harry's year - Voldemort was at his peak leading up to and immediately following Harry's birth. Understandably, couples likely avoided conceiving during such terrifying times, with only a few brave wizards in Britain deciding to procreate despite the horrors of Voldemort's reign.

This sort of wartime fear surrounding major life events is a common theme in the Harry Potter series. In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Molly Weasley explains that she and Arthur married young because everybody did during Voldemort's rise to power - they didn't know how much time they had left. And her son Ron justifies kissing Hermione during the Battle of Hogwarts for a similar reason.

"Is this the moment?" Harry asked weakly, and when nothing happened except that Ron and Hermione gripped each other still more firmly and swayed on the spot, he raised his voice. "Oi! There's a war going on here!"

Ron and Hermione broke apart, their arms still around each other.

"I know, mate," said Ron, who looked as though he had recently been hit on the back of the head with a Bludger, "So it's now or never, isn't it?"

So next time you're wondering why you only ever hear about a handful of Hogwarts students in Harry's grade level, understand that they're the few whose parents were brave (or foolish) enough to bring babies into the world during the reign of a complete monster.

How My Family's Unrelenting Love For Our Dog Saved His Life

By the time I was 12 years old, my family had just about every type of pet you could own. We adopted hamsters, a rabbit, countless fish, a turtle, frogs, and even birds - needless to say, we're animal people. But no matter how much we enjoyed our small pets, my sister and I always longed for a puppy. So when I returned from sleep-away camp in sixth grade and was welcomed by a furry little Shih Tzu named Tyler, it was quite possibly the happiest day of my life. He was the perfect surprise, and my family became attached immediately.

A couple of years went by and Ty was the picture of perfect health, until we came home from a family vacation to find him acting unlike his usual happy self. He had no interest in playing or eating, he was losing tons of hair and weight, he incessantly gnawed at his skin, and he would arch his back at random times throughout the day.

Frantic with worry, we rushed him to the vet to run tests. After the results were inconclusive, we took him to have an X-ray, which is when doctors found a large mass on his thymus gland. Lodged between his heart and his lungs, my little boy had a malignant tumor. Every doctor we spoke to insisted he be put to sleep. We were told that even if we tried to treat his cancer, he would only live another two to three years.

I distinctly remember the day my parents broke the news. We sat on the kitchen floor holding our sick puppy and cried for hours, completely heartbroken and torn. How could we give up on this precious thing? How could we not fight for him?

And so we did.

An invasive surgery such as Ty's is draining for a human, and he was only a 10-pound dog. After doctors removed his tumor, they advised that we continue with chemotherapy, so for six months we took him to get his treatment. He lost all of his hair, and as many canine enthusiasts know, Shih Tzus are known for their luscious manes, so this was particularly upsetting.

Once his cycle was finished, all we could do was wait. He was successfully in remission, but we still couldn't shake what the doctors had told us: "Only two to three more years . . . " So with that in mind, we treated him like the prince he was. Each day we spent with our strong survivor was cherished. We loved him like no puppy has ever been loved before - at least in our minds.

Ty is turning 11 years old this year.

He has beat the formidable odds, and we can't help but consider him a medical miracle. The only explanation doctors have offered to us is that he is still alive because of the immense bond he has with my family. He is our pride, our joy, and our whole world. As he ages, memories of the emotional roller coaster we all endured grow foggier, but what he went through has never been forgotten.

This Ikea Play Kitchen Hack Is Everything

As if Ikea's play kitchen ($100) wasn't cute enough, blogger Jenny Collier took the child's toy to the next level with a few ingenious designer-grade hacks. Now, her daughter's play kitchen has all the style of Pottery Barn's much pricier Chelsea set ($499) at a fraction of the cost. Jenny's first hack was to cover the countertop in marble-patterned contact paper to give it a high-end look. Then, she spray painted all the hardware on-trend brass. For the backsplash, she used a foam core board and traced black lines with a sharpie to create faux subway tile. The resulting play kitchen is every child's - and parent's - dream. We just wish it came in adult size. Visit Jenny Collier's blog for the full tutorial and more images.

Fans Are Photoshopping This Picture of Mark Hamill and Daisy Ridley - and It's AMAZING

Although the arrival of Star Wars: Episode VIII feels like it's galaxies away, Mark Hamill took to his Twitter account to #bless Star Wars fans with an epic behind-the-scenes moment.

He posted a photo of himself hitching a piggyback ride from Daisy Ridley while on set of the film, which is currently in production. The adorable photo was posted in honor of Daisy's 24th birthday this past Sunday, and the pose was a nod to the 1980s snap of Yoda on Luke's back in The Empire Strikes Back.

The internet got a hold of the image and started a full-on Photoshop battle on Reddit. The picture has since been turned into a variety of hilarious parody images and memes that fans (and Mark!) got a real kick out of.
