Experts Share the Perfect Snack For Maximum Weight Loss
It's not just for preschoolers! Snack time is important for adults, too, because it can satiate hunger between meals to prevent overeating and help you lose weight. Snacks can also be a way to get valuable nutrients you're missing from meals alone. But not all snacks are good ones. We've enlisted the expertise of two nutritionists - Stephanie Clarke, RD, and Willow Jarosh, RD, of C&J Nutrition - to share the perfect equation for how to choose a delicious and filling snack that will help you reach your weight-loss goals. Follow their advice below to start seeing results.
Calories
Aim for two 150-calorie snacks each day. Think of them as ways to fill nutrition holes in your diet, such as getting your fill of fiber or a boost of calcium.
Carbs
Anywhere from 40 to 50 percent of your calories at snack time should come from carbs, which works out to 14 to 20 grams. Choose high-fiber carbs such as fruit, whole grains, and starchy veggies like peas, corn, sweet potato, pumpkin, and Winter squash. Carbohydrates that are naturally high in fiber tend to be less refined and processed and also typically yield a larger portion size for fewer calories, making them more satisfying.
Protein
Go for six to 10 grams of protein, which is 15 to 20 percent of your total snack calories. Protein is essential in order to make what you nosh on feel more satisfying. Protein also helps to even out the rate that carbohydrates enter your bloodstream, so if you eat a snack that's low in protein, a spike in your blood sugar levels could result in stronger cravings and the need to munch on more.
Fats
Far should constitute 30 to 40 percent of your snack's calories, which works out to between six and 10 grams. Including healthy fats also adds to the "I feel satisfied" feeling. The one thing to watch out for is portion size, since fats like nuts, seeds, and avocado tend to be high in calories.
Fiber
Getting enough fiber in your snack - at least three grams - is a must to not only help you feel satiated for longer, but to also help you reach your daily goal of 25 grams. Getting your fill of fiber will ensure you stay regular, which can help you avoid that bloated feeling, making you feel more energetic. It can also help maintain stable blood sugar levels, which keeps cravings at bay.
Sugars
Aim for no more than 10 grams of total sugar and no more than four grams of added sugar (one teaspoon of honey, sugar, or maple syrup).
Timing
Most people like to include their two 150-calorie snacks between their three main meals, so one in the late morning and one in the late afternoon. A good rule of thumb is to eat every couple of hours, so find the schedule that works for you. Maybe you eat a later lunch and an earlier dinner so an afternoon snack isn't necessary but a bedtime snack is. Remember that experiencing a little hunger is OK, but snacking can prevent that famished feeling that makes people overeat. And eating late at night won't cause weight gain, but overdoing it on your daily calorie intake will. If you know you like to eat a little something before bed, make sure you save 150 calories in order to stick to your daily limit.
Eating and Working Out
If you're grabbing a pre-workout snack, aim for a 3:1 ratio of carbs to protein. After a workout, go for a 2:1 ratio of carbs to protein. A banana with some nut butter or a small smoothie is a great option. For workouts that are an hour or shorter, don't stress too much about getting the exact amount. As long as your snack includes a combo of carbs, protein, and healthy fats, and is under 150 calories, you're good! Generally it's good to enjoy a pre-workout snack 30 to 90 minutes before a workout, but eating beforehand isn't a necessity. Some people prefer working out on an empty stomach, so do what's right for you. Then refuel with a post-workout snack within 30 to 60 minutes.
A Few Examples of Snacks
The above info would make an ideal snack, but if you can't meet all the requirements, it's OK to fall short of one of these - fats, carbs, fiber, or protein - just make sure your snack meets the other three.

Snack Mistakes to Avoid
- Not enough variety: While a cheese stick seems like a healthy snack, it's only offering you protein, so you'll soon feel hungry afterward. To feel satiated, make sure your snack has at least two of these - carbohydrate, protein, and fat - or, better yet, aim for all three.
- Skipping: If you head into lunch and dinner completely starving, you know all too well how easy it is to eat way more calories than normal. Snacking between meals controls hunger, which controls cravings and can help you consume fewer daily calories.
- Not counting calories: A snack is just that - a snack. It's not a minimeal, so stick to that 150-calorie amount. Be mindful that prepackaged snacks like granola bars, protein bars, smoothies, or bags of crackers can offer almost 200 calories or more. On the same token, mindlessly reaching into a bag can result in devouring more than one portion without you even realizing it. So measure out your portion and put the bag away!
Looking to drop pounds during other times of the day? Here's what to eat for breakfast and lunch, and dinner to lose weight.
6 Things to Never Ever Post on Social Media
Privacy's a rarity these days, and your beloved social media sites are largely to blame for that. But there are things you are doing on those sites that are making the situation even worse. Before you ever hit "share" again, make sure you're not posting one of these six things.
1. Your home and work addresses
"Duh," you think. But we're not just talking about typing your whole address onto your Facebook profile. "Checking in" and geotagging photos can give away your address even when you don't realize are. For instance, you know how you can create your own geotags for Instagram photos? When you do this, it pulls the location of where you're currently at. So if all your made-up geotags point to the same location, some creep can assume that's where you live or work.
Also be mindful of other people who may tag your address. One time a friend "checked in" to my apartment on Facebook - address and all - without asking for permission. Not OK.
2. Certain photos of kids
If there's one time you should be extra, extra careful, it's when it comes to children and social media. When they're not your own kids, you should always get permission from their parents before you post anything. And even if they are your kids, you still want to steer clear of uploading these compromising images, including where they go to school.
3. Vacation details
Telling people you're away from home for an extended period time is an invite for robbers to break in. This doesn't mean you can't post photos from your trip while you're on vacation. Just limit this to a select, trustworthy group of people as opposed to your entire network. And never post your entire itinerary ("I'm in Madrid Oct. 10 to 17, Berlin Oct. 17 to 25, and Rome Oct. 25 to 31 before flying back home. Know anyone in those cities who might want to hang out with a new friend?").
4. Password clues
Online security questions aren't the strongest, especially when they require information that you could easily give away on social networks. The small town where you grew up, your childhood pet's name, where you were married, your first boyfriend's name - these are all specific details your larger social circle doesn't need to know anyway.
5. Private photos
We're not assuming you would ever post nude photos on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter. But you may Direct Message or Snapchat them. That's still a bad idea, seeing as how no one but you can be trusted with those photos these days.
6. Credit card or financial information
Yup, some people post pictures of their credit cards on social media (please say you're not one of them). But less obvious details you might unintentionally give away through Facebook or Twitter conversations: what bank you use and your income range. Even your birth date and place give hackers enough details to access your financial information.
This Couple Threw a Super Mario-Themed Wedding - and It's Adorable
Mad props to Sheana and Mark. The couple walked down the aisle in Dallas while the Super Mario theme song played in the background. And that's not the only way the pair incorporated the highly beloved video game into their nuptials - they went all out.
"Their ring bearer wore a DIY Lakitu costume, cloud included, and their bridal party was dressed as Luigi and Toad," designated photographer Megan Saul said. "[The couple wore] a white to pink dress and red and white tux. Everything about their wedding describes them to their fullest."

This Is What You Were Really Thinking During the Jon Snow Resurrection
The resurrection of Jon Snow is all Game of Thrones have been talking about for the last couple of weeks - hell, it's all we've been talking about for the last year. This week, Saturday Night Live took on the plot twist - or, rather, the plot twist everyone saw coming but the show took its sweet time revealing. Relive and laugh along with the SNL cast as they make fun of everything from Melisandre to some of the more boring scenes in GOT history.

Someone Made the Nimbus 2000 From Harry Potter and It Looks Insanely Difficult
As we've learned from people's various takes on the Weasley family clock, Harry Potter-inspired DIY projects don't tend to be easy. Case in point: Imgur user Goodmen999's construction of the Nimbus 2000 racing broom.
The beautiful broom was first made by scaling its dimensions as it appeared in the movie - the only issue being that different brooms were used throughout filming. After determining the approximate measurements, he sawed the shape down from a piece of mahogany wood, attached styrofoam to one end of the broom, and covered the styrofoam with thin branches. Then, once he created a metal gold stand, he painted the finished product in a clear lacquer. If we're being honest, the whole project sounds hard as f*ck.
Check out the impressive undertaking below. Full disclosure: this is not a DIY for the faint of heart - but it is awesome.
Warging on Game of Thrones Is More Complicated Than You Thought
It would be an understatement to say that things in the Game of Thrones universe have gotten complicated over the past six seasons. Jumping between several storylines was complex enough when the story was simply a political one - and now, with the addition of ancient magic and multiple seemingly powerful gods, it's no surprise that viewers need comprehensive guides to keep track of the plot. One type of ancient magic, warging, comes up time and again in the series (particularly in Bran's and Jon's respective storylines), so let's refresh about what it means and why it's vital to the story.
Before we get into warging, it's important to distinguish that there's a difference between warging and skinchanging. Many people use these terms interchangeably when referring to GOT, but there is a distinct difference.
Skinchangers
A skinchanger is a human with the ability to enter the mind of an animal, controlling its actions and experiencing the world through the beast's senses. One example of a skinchanger from the HBO series is Orell, the Wildling scout who uses his bonded eagle to look out for danger. In the books, another Wildling named Varamyr Sixskins is known for his ability to channel his consciousness into a broad range of animals (hence his last name).
Wargs
A warg is a specific type of skinchanger that connects with wolves (or, in the case of the Starks, direwolves). In short, all wargs are skinchangers, but not all skinchangers are wargs - the title "warg" denotes skinchanging into a wolf breed.
Bran Stark has the ability to warg, exploring the world through the eyes and sense of his wolf, Summer. While the show has explored Bran's warging and greenseeing abilities in detail, it has yet to touch on the fact that all of the Stark children are wargs. Arya and Jon experience "wolf dreams," during which they connect with their respective direwolf, and Martin has claimed that Robb, Sansa, and Rickon also possess warging abilities.
So, why is this important for season six? Well, in addition to further exploration of Bran's magical abilities during his training with the Three-Eyed Raven, it's also possible that the other Starks' warg powers will come into play. In the wake of Jon Snow's resurrection, there has been speculation that he warged into Ghost before his death . . . if this proves true, then his ability to warg will likely play a huge role in his postrevival character arc. Plus, let's not forget that Rickon and Shaggy Dog are still out there somewhere (likely to return this season) and that Arya's banished direwolf, Nymeria, still roams the woods in the Riverlands.
We're sure to learn even more about this complicated ability as the season plays out. Until then, feel free to explain the complexities of the magic next time somebody wonders whether you can "warg into a dragon"!

Prepare to Feel Overwhelmingly Nostalgic After Looking at the Art From Every Chapter in Harry Potter
Everything great about the Harry Potter series doesn't start and end at the story. It's the smaller details and inner workings of J.K. Rowling's mind that we continue to uncover and love. While we've grown up with the illustrations from every book's chapters, we didn't think about looking at them all in one place - until now.
A collage of the entire series's artwork created by Reddit user ajcfood has recently resurfaced since first appearing three years ago. From baby Harry in the "Boy Who Lived" chapter to Platform 9 and 3/4 in the "Epilogue: 19 Years Later," you get a good sense of the storyline just by looking at the artwork in sequential order. Not only does your heart start to melt into a nostalgic puddle, but you'll also notice how the illustrations get darker as the series does.

9 Tips to Save a Bundle on Flowers
Now that Valentine's Day is almost here, it's got everyone thinking about flowers. Getting flowers for your loved one is a hallmark of this holiday of love, but it can be pretty pricey. Whether you're buying them for yourself or someone you care about, here are some tips to save on flowers.
- Additional reporting by Macy Williams
1. Make your own: You can always go the DIY route and make your flowers out of creative everyday items like tape and old book pages for an eco- and budget-conscious move. These handmade flowers will not only save your wallet, but they are also a unique and creative touch.
2. Time it: Having the flowers delivered the day before and not on Valentine's Day can be a lot cheaper, so check to see if there is a difference in cost. Buying flowers the day after can be a lot more affordable as well, so you might want to wait a little.
3. Artificial flowers: If you're not the DIY sort, then you can always purchase artificial flowers, whether made of plastic or some other material. They tend to be a lot cheaper and last longer as well.
4. In-season flowers: Flowers that are in season tend to be cheaper than those that aren't, so consider visiting your local florist to get the details. Some in-season flowers include orchids, jasmine, hyacinth, anemones, and waxflowers.
5. Mix up the colors, flowers, and sizes: Don't go the traditional red, long-stemmed roses route, because they will be overpriced. Instead, mix up the colors and opt for other types of flowers. And if you're insistent on getting a red rose, who says a dozen roses is more romantic than a single elegant rose?
6. Go grocery shopping: Check out your local grocery stores, discount chain shops, and superstores like Costco for flowers. If the packaging or arrangement of the flowers looks cheap, then deconstruct the bouquet and arrange them so that they'll look more chic.
7. Potted plants: Get your loved one a potted plant, like an orchid, so she can watch it grow, while you save money. It's a great alternative because you're giving a one-of-a-kind gift that can keep on growing - a living testament of your love.
8. Use greenery: Instead of flowers, consider using greenery to amp up your bouquets. It's a refreshing take on the traditional Valentine's bouquet.
9. Skip the vase: The cost of a vase can tack on more than $20 to the total price of your bouquet. Skip the store-bought vase, and use your own. If you don't have a vase, then be creative and use something lying around the house, be it an old wine bottle, mason jar, or tin can.

This Instagram Account Uses Cardboard Cutouts to Make You Reimagine the Magic of Sunsets
Sunsets are beautiful to witness in person, but sometimes you just gotta do it for the 'gram. Instead of just snapping a shot of the spectacle, Emmy-award-winning TV producer and writer John Marshall uses it as a backdrop for a much more creative photo op. His project, called "Sunset Selfies," includes setting up cardboard cutouts of well-known characters against the sunset to cast a silhouette and create the scene. Animals, objects, and predominately Sesame Street characters are featured on his Instagram account with more than 1,700 followers.
The concept is super simple but so cool. "Each day I draw a picture on a big sheet of cardboard, then I cut it out and pose with it at sunset," Marshall wrote on BoredPanda. He also mentions how in addition to original characters, he mainly features friends from Sesame Street since he's a big fan of Muppets creator Jim Henson.
Take a look at some of his shots below and get inspired to make your own "Sunset Selfie" or get creative with paper cutouts. For more cardboard magic, check out Jim's Tumblr and Facebook.

FINALLY! There's a Harry Potter Movie About Snape and the Marauders
One of the most common desires in Harry Potter fan circles is for J.K. Rowling to write a series of books about the Marauders (aka Harry's father, James Potter, and his best friends from Hogwarts, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew). While Rowling has, sadly, shot down ideas about a Marauders prequel in the past, that doesn't mean that fans can't take things into their own hands! Enter: Severus Snape and the Marauders, a high-budget Harry Potter fan film, paid for and created entirely by diehard Potterheads.
The 25-minute film centers on Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, Prongs, and the Half-Blood Prince as they bid Hogwarts goodbye and enter the real wizarding world - and trust us, if you're a fan, you need to set aside time to watch the entire thing. The casting of Severus Snape, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew is particularly excellent, and the fan film is so high quality that you'll feel as if you're watching a brand-new Harry Potter movie.
Still not convinced that it's worth your time? Just read the creators' description of the plot:
Set in 1978, Severus Snape, James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew, and Lily Evans have just graduated from Hogwarts School. As James and his friends, known only to each other as the Marauders, drink at a bar, Snape enters as well, hoping to find Lily. Knowing their dark future, and the part Snape might play in the First Wizarding War, James decides to do something about his long-time rival once and for all.
This isn't your average fan film . . . press "play" to experience the magic for yourself!

How to Turn Your Fascination With the Royals Into an Unforgettable Vacation
I've often imagined myself traveling between little British villages on my dream vacation, a grand tour of stately homes and estates. There may be a convertible involved, and perhaps I'd wear a headscarf. Basically, I'd be Bridget Jones on a minibreak.
This was a dream I was fairly sure would never come true. I feared it would be an overwhelming amount of logistics and too much to see during a one-week vacation.
But I was wrong. I learned it's not too much for one week's traveling - or too hard to pull off - thanks to the team at Visit Britain, who took me on a grand trek between four of Queen Elizabeth's castles. There I was, the one American, on a group that included eight other extremely friendly journalists from Australia, South Africa, Britain, Turkey, Russia, Brazil, China, and Indonesia.
Even if you aren't an Anglophile to the extent that I am - I did, after all, host a video series called The Royal Report - this trip would be great fun. History, design, and architecture buffs will all have plenty to see and learn whether they tour all or just one of Queen Elizbeth's grand homes.

15 Hilarious Examples of What Millennials Wish Our Generation Was Called
As a millennial, I know exactly what I love and cringe about when it comes to my generation. While plenty are quick to call us entitled and lazy, it's clear that those people just don't get it. That's why when popular social sharing app Yik Yak asked millennials what they'd rename our generation, the answers where clever and pretty on point.
Some took it to the meme level with "Netflix and chill," while others just stuck to real struggles millennials go through. Go ahead and start reading some of the best Yik Yaks ahead - it'll make you forget about just how old you actually are.
This Is How the New Starbucks Waffle Cone Frappuccino Really Tastes
Starbucks released a Caramel Waffle Cone Frappuccino ahead of Summer, and we knew we wanted to try it immediately. Coffee plus waffle cone?! It sounds like a dream, but how does it really taste?
For starters, it's basically a caramel Frappuccino with a slightly different taste thanks to the addition of waffle cone syrup. The syrup isn't the only cone component, though - there are crushed-up bits of waffle cone sprinkled on top of the whipped cream. These are definitely the star of the beverage, but the only drawback is they get soggy quickly, so eat them fast. You can order the Frappuccino with or without coffee (we opted for coffee, because that's the clear choice). Overall, Frappuccino-lovers are definitely into it and would order it. "Love it! Love the waffle bits," one taste tester wrote, while another admitted, "Good but not sure it's worth the calories."
If you're still not sure if you want to buy it, the best thing to do is take advantage of Starbucks's Frappuccino happy hour (it's back!), which means you get half-priced Frappuccinos from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. every day from now until May 15. While nothing compares to an actual waffle cone with ice cream on a hot day, this is a good way to start your morning if you need a caffeine boost and a sugar rush.
17 Ways to Save Money at Hotels
Let's face it - nice hotels are not cheap. In fact, deciding where to stay during your upcoming vacation may be the most stressful part of the travel-planning process. The money adds up quickly, which is why it's important to save as much as you can. Here are 17 ways to get the most bang for your buck during your next hotel stay.
- Look for deals and promotions on the hotel website. Leaning toward a specific resort? First and foremost, check the hotel website for any deals, promotions, or special bargains the company may be offering.
- Use Hotel Tonight. The user-friendly app Hotel Tonight promotes any last-minute deals from hotels around the world.
- Look into credit cards that offer hotel perks. Your credit card may include hotel bargains. Citi Prestige, for example, offers the fourth night at any hotel free.
- Sign up for rewards programs. Many hotel chains offer a rewards program. Best Western, for example, employs a points system, which you can redeem for free room nights, retail gift cards, air travel, dining, and more.
- Look for membership perks from clubs and programs. Clubs such as AAA and Costco offer special hotel deals and packages for members.
- Call the hotel directly to ensure you aren't missing any deals. Consider calling up the hotel and booking over the phone if the website doesn't seem up to date. The front desk will fill you in on the latest offerings.
- Stay during the off-season. If you're staying at a European hotel in the dead of Summer, chances are you'll be forking over a LOT more. Pay attention to the high and low seasons, and plan your travel accordingly.
- Look on local sites. Be sure to check the local website of your destination. The city or town may promote lodging offers or travel packages to drive tourism.
- Compare prices using aggregator websites. Large travel brands like Expedia, Orbitz, Kayak, and Priceline can assist you in finding the cheapest hotel rates as well as other means of travel, like flights and ground transportation.
- Set up discount alerts. Sites like Deal Base, Tablet Hotels, and Smarter Travel give you the option to set up deal alerts and receive newsletters, so you never miss a good bargain again.
- Book refundable fares so you can switch to a cheaper hotel if need be. Before booking, look for a 24-hour cancellation policy. You never know if you'll find a better discount at the last second.
- Stretch out the free meals you get. Stock up on the breakfast buffet, so you won't have to spend as much cash on food later in the day.
- Ask room service for extra shampoo and conditioner bottles. No need to spend cash on expensive toiletries when the hotel provides them for you. Don't be shy - ask for extra!
- Be careful about the food and beverages in the room. The hotel may charge you for even opening the fridge, let alone consuming the snacks and drinks in the room. Proceed with caution, and ask the front desk if you're not sure.
- Consider location. If you choose to stay somewhere just outside of Disneyland rather than, say, a 15-minute drive from the park, you'll probably pay more. If you don't mind the extra time it takes for transportation, pick a place that's a little farther away from the local hotspots.
- Bring your own alcohol. Dread the thought of paying 15 bucks per cocktail at the hotel minibar? Easy fix - bring your own booze.
- Tell the hotel ahead of time when you're traveling for a special occasion. Last but not least, let the hotel staff know if it's your birthday or anniversary upon booking. You may be eligible for a free upgrade, or at least a bottle of champagne.
This Makes the Fight Scene in Captain America: Civil War Even Better Than You Thought
Maybe just seeing fellow Avengers Captain America (Chris Evans) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) in the fight of their lives against each other in Captain America: Civil War is enough to thrill you. The two "good guys" and usual friends are so vicious toward each other in the film's fight scene that you don't even know who to root for - or who's actually stronger. But there's a moment during that hand-to-hand brawl where Cap says one thing that firmly puts you on his side - if you remember that you've heard it before.
When Cap and Tony are going at it, just beating the crap out of each other, Tony gets in a shot at Cap's perfect face. Cap, looking like a boxer about to go down, gamely tells Tony with a bloody mouth, "I can do this all day."
You've heard it before, out of Cap, but in very different circumstances. It was several Marvel movies ago - in 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger, to be exact. Before Cap was Cap, he was puny little Steve Rogers, a Brooklyn guy so small and wimpy he keeps getting rejected by the Army. Before he undergoes the treatment that makes him the sexy supersolider he is today, Steve gets into a fight, and though he can't win, he proves how scrappy he is when he says the epic line.
It's a nice little callback that's both a wink to the fans and acknowledgement that inside, Cap is still the same Steve Rogers, a guy from Brooklyn with a lot of heart.

This Man Claims to Be the REAL Bitcoin Founder, Satoshi Nakamoto
After a struggling engineer was misidentified in 2014 as Satoshi Nakamoto, the founder of worldwide payment platform Bitcoin, another man has stepped forward to claim the name. Australian entrepreneur and computer scientist Craig Steven Wright recently outed himself on his blog as the creator - and even provided technical proof.
In a meeting with the BBC, Wright digitally signed messages with early cryptographic keys that are linked to the Satoshi name. "These are the blocks used to send 10 bitcoins to Hal Finney in January [2009] as the first bitcoin transaction," Wright stated to the BBC. But other outlets, including The Economist, still require further evidence to explain some of the "holes" in his story:
"Some of the academic degrees Mr Wright had listed on a profile on LinkedIn, a social network, could not be confirmed. SGI, a maker of supercomputers, denied that it had ever done business with one of his companies, Cloudcroft. And cryptographic keys found in the leaked documents and some of his blog posts, which both could have linked him to Mr Nakamoto, were said to have been backdated or changed recently. After a raid by Australian tax officials on his house in Sydney, many came to believe that the entire story was an elaborate hoax staged by Mr Wright himself."
Contrary to BBC's strong confirmations, other outlets are also doubtful. After an investigation last December, wherein leaked documents connecting Wright to Bitcoin were sent to Wired, the magazine also does not believe Wright is the Bitcoin creator. Wired also found similar inconsistencies as The Economist did.
Bitcoin has grown to be associated with the black market due to users' anonymity in transactions, which means Wright revealing himself as Satoshi Nakamoto puts him at risk of prosecution. This poses the question of why he'd put up an elaborate hoax if that means losing everything - including about $450 million if his net worth in Bitcoins was converted.
Wright explained to the BBC how he was forced to identify himself since the leak. "I have not done this because it is what I wanted. It's not because of my choice," he said. In pursuit of revealing the truth, Wright and his loved ones have continuously been targeted and investigated, which supposedly made him come out as Satoshi unwillingly. "I want to work, I want to keep doing what I want to do. I don't want money. I don't want fame. I don't want adoration. I just want to be left alone."
Compelling evidence as well as skeptical discrepancies have been presented in equal measure, making it tough to confidently identify who the real Satoshi Nakamoto is. We've yet to come to our own conclusions as the mystery unfolds.
Your Boss ALWAYS Notices These Things About You
No matter what field you're in - health, engineering, media, education, design, etc. - you (most likely) answer to a higher-up, and FYI, said higher-up is evaluating you daily. And not just your work.
Your boss notices a range of things about you, because her job is, well, to keep an eye on you. Whether you like it or not, here are the things she's observing regularly. Pro tip: Work hard five days a week!
1. How early you arrive.
Are you getting to work at 8 a.m., 9 a.m., or 10? Different work cultures require different hours (some offices don't even have a set arrival time), but if you're strolling in at 11:30 every morning, there's probably an issue. Take a cue from your co-workers and get to work around the same time they do.
2. . . . And how late you leave.
Again, you may not have a specified 9-to-5 shift, but reflect on the time you're leaving work every day. Before your co-workers? After? Does it vary? Just make sure you're not ducking out early Monday through Friday.
3. The way you dress.
How you present yourself is, and always will be, important at work. Note that the field you're in (or where you live) dictates your dress code. Some offices are totally lax while others are strictly black slacks and blazers. This is another one where you should be taking cues from your colleagues and dressing (relatively) similarly.
4. How you're using technology.
Are you actually making work calls on your iPhone, or are you chatting with your roommate about who's making dinner tonight? It's common sense, but you should be focusing your use of technology on work. Limit the Facebook check-ins!
5. The words you use.
This is fairly basic, but you really shouldn't be cussing up a storm around your co-workers, in or out of the office. The stench of your potty mouth could reach the nose of your boss, and she might not like it.
6. If you're fitting in.
How do you get along with your colleagues? Are you fitting in, or are you the odd one out? If you're new, chances are that your edges haven't quite squeezed into the intricate, 500-piece puzzle of your office. Attend work events. Round up your co-workers for happy hour. Your boss wants to see that you're a good suit for the team.
7. How you manage your time.
Last but not least, are you managing your time well? Do you get things done efficiently and at the proper pace? Or do you linger on stuff that you shouldn't? It's important to prioritize and meet deadlines, always. After all, you're there to work.
McDonald's Releases New Garlic Fries - but There's a Catch
McDonald's recently tested chocolate fries - that choice may have been questionable, but the new garlic fries that the burger chain has released sound on point. The fast food giant announced in a press release that it has rolled out the new garlic fries in four select locations in the South Bay of San Francisco.
To incorporate locally sourced ingredients, McDonald's is enhancing its signature french fries with garlic that is grown about 80 miles south of San Francisco in Gilroy, CA, named "The Garlic Capital of the World." McDonald's Gilroy Garlic Fries are made to order and tossed in chopped Gilroy garlic and olive oil, parsley, parmesan cheese, and a little salt. It sounds pretty amazing.
According to Nick Vergis, McDonald's co-op president of the San Francisco Bay Area, the customer response "has been very positive." If the new item continues to receive praise, it'll be available in August at almost 250 chains in the Bay Area. We're guessing (and hoping) that these garlic fries will become widespread, just as we're crossing our fingers that McDonald's sweet potato french fries make their way to a location near us soon. Let us know below what you think of this new menu item!
You'd Never Guess What Car Thieves Did After Finding This Epic Note
When your car gets stolen, there's little to do but call the cops and hope for the best. Leave it to one woman, however, to take the situation into her own hands. After noting that her Honda often gets stolen, reddit user mfiasco shared a snippy letter that she claims to leave in the glove box hoping to deter future car thieves. So when her car was recently broken into again, instead of having it towed and impounded, the thieves left it in front of someone's home, where it was then recovered.
The snarky letter she wrote has since gone viral on Reddit, and like most Internet sensations, she received plenty of support and hate for her post. In a since deleted comment, the woman responded to a claim that her letter was fake and uploaded a 2013 version of the note that had been in her car. Not everyone needed proof though. In the same deleted comment, the woman said that a fellow Reddit user found her on Facebook and started a GoFundMe account to help pay for her car repairs. So far, $665 out of $500 has been raised, surpassing the original goal.
Whether you believe her story or not, the letter is by far the most brilliant response ever to a carjacking.

Your Go-To Tipping Guide
Wouldn't we all love a magic formula that helped us figure out how much to tip for any occasion? No one wants to stiff someone for their service, but an oversize bonus can do damage to our bottom line. To help you figure out the correct amount, we're breaking down services. And if you don't see what you need, keep this general tip in mind: start with 10 percent of the cost of the service, which is usually the correct amount or close. If a service is more tedious or dirty, consider what you'd like to be paid if you were doing the work and compensate fairly. Without further ado, our guide:
Service | Suggested Tip |
---|---|
Barista | You're not required to tip your latte maker, but if you pay in cash and have a few coins left over throw it in the tip jar for good measure. Making friends at your favorite coffee shop may offer the perk of quick service and occasionally a free coffee or sweet treat. |
Babysitter | Tip your sitter 15 percent. Consider an extra bonus during the holidays or when they stay extralate or overnight. Always round up to the nearest $10. They're taking care of your children, after all. |
Bartender | You should tip your bartender $1 per drink or 15 percent of the total bill. If you tip when you order your first round you may get better service. |
Cab Driver | Give 10 percent or a $2 minimum. |
Dog Groomer | Make up for Fido's stink with a 15 percent tip. |
Dog Walker | Thank your dog walker with a 10 percent tip. |
Food Delivery Person | Fork over a 10-percent tip or at least $2. |
Furniture Delivery | Most people suggest dishing out $5 to $20 to anyone who does heavy lifting for you and up to $50 for giant items. You might also offer them a coke or glass of water. |
Take Out | You don't need to offer up a tip if you take out, but if you made special requests consider putting a dollar or two in the tip jar. |
Hairstylist | Gift your hairstylist a 10 to 15 percent tip for a medium-range haircut and 15 to 20 percent for a 'do at a superfancy salon. If a special shampooer washes your hair, the tip you give your stylist will likely be split, but ask the person at the front desk if they're covered when you pay. |
Bellhop | Slip him $1 to $2 per bag or $5 total. |
Hotel Housekeeper | You should reward your housekeeper $2 to $5 for each day of service. Some suggest tipping in a lump sum at the end of your stay, but I've always found tipping daily means your room will get extra TLC. |
Hotel Concierge | Tip $5 to $20 depending on the service. You don't need to tip for directions, but if they set you up with coupons, reservations, and services, they should be compensated. |
Hotel Room Service | $5 minimum (unless gratuity is included in check). |
Manicurist | You should tip your manicurist 15 percent for making your nails pretty. |
Parking Attendant | Tip your attendant $1 or $2 if they carry packages for you or have to use an elevator to get your car to you. |
Powder Room Attendant | If you don't use the powder room attendant, you don't have to tip. If you do, consider giving her a dollar or the change left over from whatever you purchase. |
Spa, Facialist, Hair Removal, or Masseuse | Reward your beautifier with a 15 to 20 percent tip. |
Spa Owner | It's not standard practice to tip the owner of a salon. This unspoken rule stems from the idea that the entire cost of your treatment goes to the house. |
Tow Truck Operator | Tip your roadside assistance crew $5 or more for a jump-start, $5 if you were locked out of the car, and $10 for a tow. |
Waiter | Dish out 15 to 20 percent of the bill. If you are at a fancy place a 20 percent or greater tip is common. Tip a maitre d' $20 to $100 depending on the restaurant. |
Valet | Tip your valet $5 to $10 depending on the lot. If you tip in advance you may get your car parked closer to the exit. |
Of course, tipping etiquette varies per county and region. Check out The Tipping Page for more suggestions.

Game of Thrones: Everything We Know About Lyanna Stark - and Why She Matters Now
On this week's episode of Game of Thrones, the greatest moment may have been the resurrection of Jon Snow, but we also have to give it up for the OMG moment that is the flashback/vision of Bran Stark to a moment of his father's childhood back at Winterfell. Not only are we seeing something that very rarely happens on this show - a happy time - we are also seeing Ned as a child with his siblings, including a character we have heard a bit about but never really seen: Ned's sister, Lyanna. Though she's not a player in the series because she's dead before the events of the show take place, anyone who subcribes to one of Game of Thrones' biggest theories is familiar with her name. But if you're not familiar, let's go over the info we have from the books and the show, and why it's significant that we're "meeting" her now.
Lyanna Was Ned's Only Sister
In the opening scene this week, Bran uses his greensight to visit a day in the life of the Winterfell kids, one generation before him. There's his father, Ned, older brother Brandon, younger brother Benjen, and the only girl: Lyanna. This is the most the show has revealed about a young Lyanna (and the first time she's had a face). Seen on horseback, she seems to have a lot on common with Arya; she's no handmaiden, hidden away inside learning to be a young lady. Even so, we know that she blossomed into one of the most eligible bachelorettes of her generation.
She Was Promised to Robert Baratheon, Who Started a War When She Was Kidnapped
Lyanna's engagement and subsequent kidnapping are legendary in Westeros. She was engaged to Robert Baratheon, who is pretty open about the fact that he never got over her, revealing how heartbroken he is in Lyanna's tomb below Winterfell in the series premiere. (And later, to his wife, Cersei. Ouch.)
The story goes that while Robert and Lyanna were engaged, Rhaegar Targaryen (an older brother of Daenerys who was dead before the show began) kidnapped her, inciting Robert's Rebellion when the "Mad King," Aerys Targaryen, refused to see his own son to justice. "Robert started a war to win her back. He killed Rhaegar, but she died anyway," Bran Stark says in season one, filling us in on the story. In season five, Sansa Stark reveals the world's perception of what happened: "Yes, he chose her, and then he kidnapped her and raped her." Indeed, Rhaegar being married to someone else and making off with Lyanna wasn't just quite the scandal - it's an event that still has reverberations in the Game of Thrones universe today.
There's a Theory That Lyanna Had a Child Before She Died
Ned Stark was Robert's right-hand man, and as such, he was with him during Robert's Rebellion (and also because he obviously wanted to save his sister). It's Ned who finds Lyanna after the final battle of the rebellion, in the Tower of Joy. She dies there, but it's never revealed how, and her last words to her brother are, "Promise me, Ned." That's it, and like Sansa says later, Ned never liked to talk about her death. From that incident and those words grew the most significant theory in Game of Thrones geneology.
The "R+L=J" Theory
The widely held theory basically states that Jon Snow is the illegitimate son of Lyanna and Rhaegar, and that Lyanna died in childbirth. The promise may have been that Ned would never tell people Lyanna's secret, or it could be a promise to always protect Jon. Remember how, before Ned leaves for King's Landing in season one, he tells Jon they'll talk about his mother when he gets back, but then conveniently dies before he can? This question is going to get answered, which brings me to my next point about . . .
So, Why Show Lyanna Now?
What an interesting scene to show Bran Stark, in the same episode where Jon Snow, after being murdered by his brothers in the Night's Watch, is brought back to life. The fact that Jon has been brought back probably means there is something special about him - like he's fulfilling a prophecy, maybe, or maybe that Targaryen blood is more magical than we ever thought.
Either way, look forward to more being revealed about Lyanna, since the preview for next week's episode might reveal a flashback to the battle at the Tower of Joy. (Fast-forward to the end to see what may be a young Ned Stark saying, "Now it ends.")

If Zodiac Signs Were Emoji . . .
A scale symbolizes the Libra zodiac sign, a crab for Cancer, and so forth, but ever wondered what signs would look like as emoji? A tarot guide named Nupur Bhardwaj created a chart titled "Zodiac Signs as Emojis" that's totally appropriate for the way emoji have become representative of how we now communicate.
Each face was chosen based on the traits associated with each sign - for example, a blushing smiley fits the gentle, compassionate characteristics of Pisces and the agonized face suits the emotional nature of Cancers.

10 Recipes That'll Basically Turn You Into Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift has many talents, but let's not forget that even before she was an international icon worth almost $240 million (yes, really), she loved to cook. More specifically, she's a baking goddess who loves to bake cookies and cakes in her downtime - you've gotta respect a pop star whose "hero" is Ina Garten. Although she admits she doesn't just bake whatever she wants all the time (like when she revealed the last thing she baked was a dairy-free, gluten-free chocolate cake), she does occasionally treat herself like any other 20-something with a sweet tooth.
And thanks to my expert ability to creep on years-old Instagram posts, I've found every homemade food Taylor Swift has ever posted, and matched each one with a copycat recipe you can make yourself. Get ready to basically morph into Taylor Swift as you make our versions of her American flag cake, M&M's chocolate chip cookies, and more, including a couple savory recipes. Listening to 1989 while cooking is encouraged always, but especially in this case.
