Hold Up - Is the Barre Tuck Actually Bad for You?
More isn't always better, so how do we know when we've had it with the tuck? Our friends at Shape break down the infamous position from your favorite cardio barre classes.
If you've ever been to a barre class, you know that it's all about the barre tuck. Your instructor reminds you in every position, during every rep, to make sure your booty isn't sticking out, but perfectly scooped under. (This fitness fad is ballerina-inspired, not Beyonce-inspired, after all.) You secretly envy and admire that one girl in class who is clearly a barre pro - the instructor compliments her on maintaining her tuck at least once or twice per class. (Do this at-home barre workout to perfect your moves even when you can't make it to class.)
While striving for the perfectly maintained tuck might seem like the ultimate #barregoals, there's something you should know. The barre tuck, or what it has turned into, might actually be bad for you.
What the Tuck?
It all comes down to alignment, says Karli Taylor, founder and creator of BarreFlow and CPT and creative exercise specialist. The OG tuck comes (like barre) straight from ballet; it's all about getting shoulders, hips, heels and toes all aligned.
"The barre tuck is actually just a way to get a neutral pelvis," says Taylor. "When you think about it, if you just stand up on your toes, your body leans forward. So to prevent that, you have to bend your knees. And to prevent your shoulders from going way in front of your knees, you have to tuck your tailbone under. So that brings you back to square one, back to neutral."
But, the fitness industry's "more is better" mentality has instructors and participants over-tucking past the neutral pelvis and creating a posterior pelvic tilt, which is when problems start to arise, says Taylor.
Why is That So Bad?
Most of us naturally have an anterior pelvic tilt (read: your butt is sticking out and back is arched), she says. This comes from long hours of sitting, and the fact that we generally use the muscles on the front of our body more than those on the back (think: we walk, run, cycle, etc. going forward).
When you force your body into a posterior pelvic tilt, you're putting pressure on the discs in your back from another direction, creating joint instability in your lumbar spine and sacroiliac (SI) joint, says Taylor. This puts you at risk for sciatica (chronic lower back pain), herniated or bulging disks in the lumbar spine, leg and foot numbness, hamstrings cramps and tightening, and kyphosis (a rounding in the upper back to compensate). ( Try this barre workout to test your tuck and improve your balance.)
"Inherently, there's nothing wrong with the barre tuck," she says. "But more isn't better. You want to bring your pelvis to a neutral position - you don't want to push your hips forward so you look like Steve Urkel."
Red flags: you feel any sort of lower back pain, especially on the sides of your spine where the SI joint is located (between your lower back and tailbone), you feel numbness in your leg, or cramping in your abdominal muscles.
So How Do You Tuck the Right Way?
Think about your pelvis like a bucket of water, says Taylor. Put your hands on your hips - that's the mouth of the bucket. If you stick your butt out and arch your back, you'll create an anterior pelvic tilt, and water would be spilling out of the front of the bucket. If you really tuck your hips and pull your tailbone under, you'll create a posterior pelvic tilt, and water would be spilling out of the back of the bucket. A neutral spine and pelvic tilt will keep the water right in its place.
A trick for getting into that correct tilt is as simple as thinking about pulling your belly button in, then up under your ribcage - but don't let it change your breathing. Perform this drill while talking and see if it changes your voice at all (it shouldn't).
"Usually when you say 'pull in your core,' people are going to suck in and hold their breath, like they're bracing their stomach to take a punch," she says. "And that's not what this should be. Pulling the belly button in and up is what's going to engage the transverse abdominus, which is your 'underneath' ab muscles, and that's what's going to bring your pelvis back to neutral."
And BTW, the tuck is not like a crunch or an ab workout. Try it right now; scoop your hips under and pull your abs in. Can you feel the bottom of your abdominal muscles getting all scrunched in at the bottom?
"It's not actually working that muscle," says Taylor. "You're just putting it in a compromised position. Some people actually pull muscles in their lower abdomen area because they're tucking too much."
You're Thinking: I've Been Barre Tucking Like That Forever, and I'm Fine.
Doing a barre tuck wrong won't make you spontaneously combust or crumble into a million pieces on the floor. Because it's an overuse injury, it could take a long time of improper form to show up - but the results aren't pretty, says Taylor.
"Barre has been popular for a couple of years, so now is when you're going to see these injuries," she says. "A tuck injury will probably not be an acute injury where someone hurts themselves on the spot - it's like any overuse injury. For example, if you're running with poor form, you may be able to do it for five years and suddenly you have plantar fasciitis or a stress fracture. Over time, these little things get worse.
We aren't hating on barre - after all, it can be great for toning and lengthening all those muscles. But, like any workout, you need to do it right. So double check your tuck before the next time you hit the barre.

Take Gisele Bündchen, for example, who's officially retired but has continued to top the list since 2002. (Her appearance at the Olympics may be her last strut down the runway.) Or Kendall Jenner, who's managed to double her earnings since 2015 and meet her friend Karlie Kloss at spot three. How to Cut Up a Watermelon, in Pictures
It's tempting to purchase watermelon already peeled and cubed, but we'd urge you not to. Not only is precubed watermelon more expensive, but it's also prone to having a mealy, mushy texture. (Once cut up, watermelon has a relatively short shelf fridge life.) Instead, follow these simple step-by-step instructions and do it yourself.
Kate Middleton Wore the 1 Piece We Had Yet to See on Her – and Now We Can't Forget About It
Kate Middleton's wardrobe is full of classic pieces she can wear again and again, so it's never a surprise to see her in similar looks. But just because she likes to keep a few pieces in rotation doesn't mean she won't try something new. During her visit to the Eden Project in Cornwall, the Duchess pulled a very bold style move with a pair of printed blue trousers from Gap. The geometric design was not an accidental choice as the colors matched her navy Smythe blazer and she even coordinated with Prince William for effect. She kept the rest of her look neutral with beige wedges and a cream sweater.
Now if you're thinking, "I need a pair of pants like that for Fall," we're right with you. This one piece can instantly transform the most basic of looks and thankfully, you can shop similar options below. Read on to see how Kate styled her pants and you can bet the Queen would have approved of this outfit.

Does This Monkey Resemble Lord Voldemort? The Internet Seems to Think So
A monkey recently born at the UK's Paignton Zoo has garnered a lot of attention for its pretty uncanny resemblance to Lord Voldemort.
According to The Mirror, the baby monkey is the first ever to be delivered via a C-section. The zoo's head of veterinary services, Ghislaine Sayers, said, "We have only done three C-sections here in the last 16 years. Jo, our surgeon on this occasion, has performed them on dogs, cats, cows and sheep before – but never a primate."
So while the monkey was brought into this earth in a miraculous manner, it also looks like it could have ties to the dark arts . . . and people on Twitter have plenty of feelings about it. Since the monkey's birth, the hashtag #VoldemortMonkey is full of hilarious reactions.
This baby monkey that looks like Voldemort is definitely going to give me nightmares this eve. @glenscottuk http://pic.twitter.com/F47kwqTDJo

The Most Powerful Thing You Can Say to Another Mom
A few weeks ago, one of my dearest friends lost her 21-month-old daughter forever when the sweet baby girl died unexpectedly and suddenly. My friend and I live on opposite sides of the country, so I took a trip to visit her for this past weekend. Admittedly, I was a nervous wreck about what I was going to say to her and her husband. How was I going to find the words to comfort them? How would I avoid saying the wrong things? I wanted to find perfect words, and, as I am a writer, words happen to be one of the few ways I truly know how to express myself.
Except I was at a complete loss over her loss. Having two healthy children at home, I felt I couldn't truly relate to her pain, so how on earth was I going to be able to comfort her during a situation that I have very little experience in? Armed with a pocket full of Bible verses and a slough of rehearsed things to say, I walked into her home and could never in a million years have foreseen the life-altering and powerful words that would be spoken between us during our time together. Except the words came from her, to me.
From her. To me.
That's right. My friend, who at this point is proving to be one of the strongest people I know, said something during her time of grief that will forever hold a spot in my heart. It was a phrase so simple, yet it has hit a chord deep inside of me. As she was describing the events leading up to the death of her daughter, she tried to express to me her complete heartbreak as she held her sweet child in the hospital during the minutes and hours after she died. Describing the time only as her worst nightmare, she said to me with tears rolling down her face, "You're a mom, you know."
You're a mom, you know.
This phrase took my breath away - as well as any composure that I had managed to keep together up until then. Because it was at that point, with that phrase, that I was able to start to understand the magnitude of her sorrow. Sure, I was completely heartbroken for her before, as death is difficult for anyone. But I'll admit that I didn't fully understand my role as her friend or as a fellow mom. See, all this time I had been looking in the wrong places for the perfect thing to say to her while I should have just looked at our simplest bond: motherhood. And while I have not experienced the pain that comes along with losing a child, I do understand the joy that she once experienced from holding her child. And to lose that? There are no words
Except maybe "I'm a mom, I know."
Losing a child is every mom's worst fear - no matter who you are or what kind of mom you choose to be. In the days since, I've been keeping this simple thought in mind when relating myself to other mommies. Sure, we all have our different ways of mothering and raising our families, but we do have one thing in common: our hearts are directly connected to our children. It makes the whole mommy wars thing seem, well, totally ridiculous.
You're a mom, you know.
So as I went with my own mom, who has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer, to her radiation treatment, I glanced over at the young mother of a small boy in the waiting room. He was maybe 3 years old (though it's hard to tell because he was so tiny). He sported a colorful Superman cape and a bland hospital mask as he sat cradled in his mom's arms. She said something quietly to him. My heart stopped. This mom ached for that mom. And the tears started to fall from my eyes despite me not knowing her one bit. Despite me only sitting in the waiting room for maybe 30 seconds. Despite my own mom sitting next to me about to have her own radiation treatment. This is crazy, I thought. I don't even know this woman.
But what I do know is that I'm a mom.
And later I was getting dinner at a takeout restaurant, and one of the employees was on the phone in the restroom. She was struggling to find a babysitter for her child while she finished her late shift. She was frantic. She was upset. She was mad. My heart skipped another beat, and the tears welled up in my eyes once again.
I know, I'm a mom.
As I went back to my mom's house, heartbroken over my friend's loss, my mother was trying to comfort me. Asking if I was OK. Me! She was the one going through radiation, I should be comforting her. And then it dawned on me as to why she was so worried about how I was doing.
She knows, she's a mom.
And on the plane on the ride home there was a new mom standing with her infant son nearly the whole four-and-a-half-hour flight because if she attempted to sit down, he wailed. She looked exhausted and frustrated. She checked her watch frequently, but she also kept on task all while kissing on his little bald head.
I know, I'm a mom.
See, it's a thread that unites us all. Helicopter moms. Free-range moms. Breastfeeding moms. Formula-feeding moms. Rich moms. Poor moms. Moms of sick kids. Moms of healthy kids. Moms. The crazy, heart-stopping love that we feel for our children runs deep through each and every one of us as moms.
And this knowledge is painful at times. It's why every sappy commercial brings us to tears. It's why we can't watch the news. It's why we get in the car and cry after we drop our kids off to their first day of school. It's why food allergies are terrifying. It's why our hearts ache when we hear about miscarriage or fertility problems. It's why we are up at night worrying about our teens. It's why the thought of our children eventually leaving the nest makes us weep into our coffee. It's why the death of another mother's child is so utterly heartbreaking . . .
It's also why we should always provide a blanket of support to all fellow moms. Not only to those who are suffering through the unimaginable pain of losing a child, but also to those mamas going through plain ol' rough times . . . and even those moms who are just having one of those days. Hug her, and if you are struggling to find the right words, all you may really need to say is, "I know, I'm a mom."
But you probably already know this. After all, you're a mom.

The Twist at the End of Morgan Expertly Turns a Tired Horror Trope on Its Head
Warning: spoilers ahead!
In Morgan, the female-dominated sci-fi horror flick hit theaters on Sept. 2, Kate Mara's character eventually sustains wounds that would render any average human being incapacitated at best. Despite a gaping, bloody wound caving in her abdomen, she's eventually, miraculously able to overcome the film's startlingly real-looking artificial human (Anya Taylor-Joy) without bleeding out, and lives to see another day. This annoying trope isn't anything new - there comes a certain point in every horror or action movie where the hero receives a stab wound to the gut or a few bullets here and there, but manages to brush them off as if nothing had happened. Though brilliantly cast, Morgan certainly doesn't break any new ground with its "scientists create monster, monster goes rogue" storyline in the way that last year's Ex Machina did. What it does do, however, is give an otherwise run-of-the-mill cliché a clever spin.
The Setup:
Mara plays Lee Weathers, a risk-assessment specialist from a company that funds research projects devoted to creating artificial human beings. They dispatch her to the remote location where one of the company's most promising projects, a human hybrid called Morgan, has violently lashed out at one of the scientists. Lee quickly realizes that Morgan - with her enhanced intelligence and strength - is too unpredictable and must be terminated. Morgan doesn't take kindly to this, and stages a breakout that involves kidnapping her favorite handler and violently murdering the rest of them. It becomes clear that Lee, with her extensive martial arts abilities, is the only one who can physically take Morgan on (for whatever reason, since Mara is a tiny wisp of a human). She suffers punch after punch and what should have been a crippling fall without slowing down whatsoever (and does it all in heels, à la Bryce Dallas Howard in Jurassic World).
The Twist:
Morgan and Lee have a final showdown in the woods, which involves both of their bodies being bashed into rocks and each others' fists. Finally, Morgan finishes it by impaling Lee on a branch sticking out of a fallen tree. The wound is severe, and Lee is clearly down for the count. Morgan leaves her to bleed out, only for Lee to miraculously revive, catch up to Morgan, and drown her in a nearby lake. Lee proceeds to shoot the rest of the surviving handlers, getting rid of any witnesses to what happened. Flash forward a little bit, and some executives at the company that is responsible for funding Morgan's creation are sitting in a conference room while calmly discussing what happened. It's then revealed that Lee is actually an earlier prototype of the human hybrid that Morgan was. She's been an artificial human all along, and is "perfect."
The big twist in Morgan isn't a huge shock - as soon as Lee is able to effortlessly scale a plain cement wall, and then survives the fall from a second-floor balcony with ease about three quarters of the way through the film, it's clear something is up. Still, it's a creative way to lend credence to the apparent indestructible physicality of her character instead of simply shrugging it off. Add in the movie's beautifully shot sequences and exceptional performances from Mara, Taylor-Joy, and Paul Giamatti (as an ill-tempered, ill-fated psychologist sent to evaluate Morgan), and it easily earns the title of one of the better horror movies of 2016.

You Can Now Actually Feel Like a Jedi With This Amazing New Gadget
Every Star Wars fan has at least once in their life quoted or made some joke about wishing they could control objects with the Force. That dream became a slight reality when Sphero released a BB-8 droid last year that could move around - all through a smartphone app. Now, you get to actually control BB-8 as if you were a Jedi (or Sith) with the release of the Force Band, a bracelet that dictates the moves of BB-8 with your hand movements.
What's the Force Band?
Are you wondering if you read that right? You did. Yes, Sphero actually topped itself and made the coolest Star Wars toy ever - again. With the Force Band, you can use "the Force" to push, pull, and control BB-8. You can make it roll across the room, move it to the right, and even beckon it back to you.
And that's just Droid Control mode. The device has five total modes: Droid Control, Force Training, Combat Training, Force Awareness, or Robot Control. The first controls BB-8. Force Training uses BB-8 to teach you certain moves to become a "Master Jedi Knight." In Combat Training mode, you can set certain sounds to your Force Band, like a lightsaber or TIE fighter, and have an imaginary battle or fight. With Force Awareness, you can collect "Holocrons" around you. Think of it is as Pokémon Go, except you don't need to keep the app open or do anything to get a Holocron.
Check out photos of both BB-8 and the Force Band ahead, as well GIFs of it in action. This won't be the last time you see it; it'll definitely be at the top of everyone's holiday wishlist this year.

These Sunglasses Double as Headphones in the COOLEST Way
Everyone is super particular about what headphones they use and why. Some like over-the-ear ones with cushion, and others prefer simple earbuds that just play sound. But we might all finally agree on the perfect pair with the Zungle Panther, sunglasses that work as headphones by vibrating music into your skull.
The sunglasses, weighing only 45 grams, connect to your phone via Bluetooth and play music by sending "sound waves to your skill via vibrations." The company thinks it's a safer option, especially for athletes like runners, who want to hear traffic sounds and their music at the same time. You can see how it works in a video below.
Since the sunglasses are connected to your phone via Bluetooth, they can also answer any calls you might get. They charge via a "hidden" USB port and will come in five different colors with the option of choosing from seven different colored lenses.
Zungle, the company behind the Zungle Panther, has already met and surpassed its Kickstarter goal with $1,947,035 pledged from supporters. If you're interested, you can head over to its Indiegogo campaign and purchase a variety of sets like a basic pack for $119 or a triple pack of Zungle Panthers for $310. Otherwise, you can wait to get one pair of these sunglasses for $150.

17 Lucky Guys Who Have Fallen For Drew Barrymore
Drew Barrymore has been in the spotlight for over four decades, but there are probably still some things you may not know about her, including her dating history. While Drew is back on the market after ending her marriage to Will Kopelman in April, the actress and mom of two has been vocal about her fondness for falling in love; over the years, Drew has dated fellow Hollywood stars like Justin Long, Luke Wilson, and director Spike Jonze, as well as musicians Fabrizio Moretti and Eric Erlandson - and she's even guilty of "ghosting" on Christian Bale after one date back in the '80s!
Make Eggplant, Cukes, and Summer Squash Tastier With 1 Simple Step
Many vegetables, like zucchini, cucumber, Summer squash, and eggplant, have a high water content, so to avoid dishes from turning into a diluted, soggy mess, treat the vegetables by salting and draining them first.
The key is to slice or grate the vegetable, sprinkle the cut surfaces with a liberal amount of kosher salt (but don't go overboard!), then wait patiently for 15 minutes for the salt to draw out the water via osmosis. Then, depending on the amount of water brought forth, either pat it dry with a towel or drain away the liquid using a colander.
This process, known as disgorging vegetables, works well for any dish where an excess of liquid would be an issue, such as cucumber salad, eggplant parmesan, a veggie-packed quiche, or any other pastry dish that could turn soggy if vegetables are too moist after cooking. It also helps reduce the bitterness that's sometimes present in older eggplants.

If You Use Facebook For News, Read This New Update
The way you see your news on Facebook is about to change completely. Facebook announced on Aug. 26 that the Trending Topics section on your feed will no longer be curated by people. Instead, an algorithm will surface what you see.
Previously, the Trending Topics section would include a short description of the news. Now, only the topic will show up, as well as a how many people are talking about it.
To find out more about the topic, you'll need to click on the title. There, a search results page will show who's talking about it and what the news actually is. Facebook states that the results you see on this page "are surfaced algorithmically, based on a high volume of mentions and a sharp increase in mentions over a short period of time." If you just hover on a topic, you'll see an excerpt of the topic from a news outlet.
Facebook is making this change to an algorithm because it will allow the feature to grow globally. The company also writes that a team is still in place to make sure what the algorithm shows is actually news.
This isn't totally unexpected news, considering the backlash Facebook received when numerous outlets reported that the Trending Topics section was biased. Though the company conducted an investigation and found no evidence of such claims, the idea that Facebook isn't entirely unbiased continues. Maybe this change will help change that perception - or worsen it when an algorithm surfaces the wrong type of content.

The Moving Story Behind This Lunchroom Photo Will Bring You to Tears
Leah Paske hasn't been in the "scary and hard" middle school grades for years, and understandably has forgotten most things about her experience aside from the one time she cried after a boy called her a name on the bus. But now that her son who has autism just started sixth grade, Paske has been feeling a bit of anxiety about middle school all over again.
"Sometimes I'm grateful for his autism," Paske admitted in a post to Facebook. "That may sound like a terrible thing to say, but in some ways I think, I hope, it shields him. He doesn't seem to notice when people stare at him when he flaps his hands. He doesn't seem to notice that he doesn't get invited to birthday parties anymore. And he doesn't seem to mind if he eats lunch alone."
Paske feels worried for her son, and consistently asks him if anything about his day at school made him sad or if he ate lunch with someone. This week, however, she got her answer to the latter question not from her son, but through a heartwarming photo of him eating lunch with a special new friend.
"Travis Rudolph, a wide receiver at Florida State, and several other FSU players visited my son's school today," she wrote. "I'm not sure what exactly made this incredibly kind man share a lunch table with my son, but I'm happy to say that it will not soon be forgotten. This is one day I didn't have to worry if my sweet boy ate lunch alone, because he sat across from someone who is a hero in many eyes."

These 10 Products Prove That Bar Soaps Should Still Be in Your Routine
According to market intelligence agency Mintel, millennials are largely responsible for the decline in bar soap's popularity. Apparently, the timeless product suffers from seeming too old-fashioned, with younger shoppers preferring liquid formulas to solid iterations.
While we're admittedly big fans of fluid body washes and facial cleansers, that doesn't mean we're forsaking our bar soaps entirely. Not only are they the most travel-friendly beauty product in our arsenal, but some in particular are superior to their liquid brethren. Stop Searching, Because Mario Lopez's Dogs Are the Cutest Pets on Instagram

This Song About How Time Passes Too Quickly Will Send Any Mom Into a Tearjerking Tailspin
Just thinking about watching our children grow up - and how it happens too quickly - makes our eyes well up with tears. So watching a music video about that inevitability might be altogether too much for any sentimental parent to handle.
Nichole Nordeman, a Christian singer-songwriter, is single-handedly causing a run on Kleenex with her latest song, "Slow Down," which asks our collective kids to do just that - all while home-video clips from dozens of different families show how babies soon become toddlers who soon become teens who . . . well, you get the idea.
Even her inspiration for this bittersweet parenthood anthem, which she shared on Facebook, had us in tears:
I don't know of a more uttered or whispered phrase from a mother of any age, about her child of any age, than "It's going by too fast." I feel like I spend my life trying to slow time. Trying to celebrate the growth and the milestones of my children, and then secretly daydreaming about building a time machine in my garage, so I can return to rocking my babies at midnight. If you've ever looked at your child running across a field, or striding across a graduation stage, or walking down the middle aisle of a church clutching a bouquet, you'll know why this song is special to me.
If you still aren't convinced in this song's five-tissue power, just try to listen through the first 30 seconds without welling up. We have a feeling these are the lyrics that will send you over the edge:
Had to crawl before you walked /
Before you ran /
Before I knew it /
You were trying to free your fingers from my hand/
'Cause you could do it on your own now
If those didn't do the trick, we don't know what will.
This Is How Beyoncé's Actual Lemonade Recipe Tastes
Beyoncé's Lemonade album dropped this year, and the reason she titled it so is for the old adage, "When life hands you lemons, make lemonade." The album simultaneously sheds light on the difficulties black women in America have faced for centuries and Beyoncé's personal marital struggles due to Jay Z's insinuated infidelity. Despite the sour, heartwrenching theme, the album ends on a positive, powerful, and sweet note for women - just like the lemonade recipe Beyoncé shares in the last section of the visual album, called "Redemption." It comes from her late grandmother, Agnéz Deréon, and according to Beyoncé, this is the method of preparation:
Take one pint of water, add half pound of sugar
The juice of eight lemons, the zest of half lemon
Pour the water from one jug, then to the other several times
Strain through a clean napkin
Unlike typical lemonade recipes, this one calls for a secret ingredient: lemon zest. The oils from the zest infuse into the lemonade and boost the lemony flavor. There's something deeply cathartic and therapeutic about preparing the lemonade like this. The lemon squeezing, swishing the lemonade back and forth between jugs until the sugar dissolves, and straining out the pulp and lemon zest: all of these actions take time, and yet focusing on them is like a meditation. The procedure is slow and calming, which is perfect for a scorching Summer day. The lemonade flavor itself is shockingly citrusy at first before ending on a soothing, sweet (but not too sweet!) note. I can see why Beyoncé's family has passed this recipe down from daughter to daughter, and why she would pass it, along with the simple-yet-wise message, to her fans and women everywhere.
A few things to note:
- 1 pint water = 2 cups
- 1/2 pound sugar = 2 1/4 cups
- Yields: 4 small cups of lemonade

Gigi Hadid Has a Secret Style Icon, and She's Probably Yours Too
Gigi Hadid is not someone who copies trends. Instead, she makes a look all her own. She works sporty slides with feminine lingerie and ties a cardigan around her neck in a move that's so 1950s, while effortlessly channeling the '90s with the rest of her look. Her brilliant outfits conjure images of one very iconic (albeit fictional) style icon: Carrie Bradshaw.
Just like the Sex and the City star, Gigi keeps a few sexy pieces in rotation - from a plaid crop top to thigh-highs - and updates them in quirky ways. Read on to see all the times Ms. Hadid and Ms. Bradshaw had the same idea when it came to fashion. If we didn't know any better, we'd say these two masterminds are the ultimate style twins.
The Harry Potter Fan Theory That J.K. Rowling Finds "Strangely Upsetting"
While J.K. Rowling typically entertains - or just doesn't acknowledge - circulating Harry Potter fan theories, she has some pretty strong feelings about a recent one involving Dumbledore and horcruxes.
One of the YouTube vloggers behind SuperCarlinBrothers, Jonathan Carlin, recently fleshed out a theory that Professor Dumbledore's animal companion, Fawkes, was actually a horcrux - implying that the greatest wizard of all time dabbled in dark magic.
Per Rowling's universe, horcruxes are created to attain immortality. However, they also involve murdering someone else in order to make one. This theory posits that though Dumbledore didn't deliberately murder anyone, he did still harbor guilt over the death of his sister, which he ultimately blamed himself for. Since Dumbledore pinned his sister's murder on his own neglect, he theoretically had a chance to perform dark magic and create a horcrux. You can watch a video about the theory below.
Though Carlin makes a strong case for this theory, Rowling straight up denied it when it was brought to her attention on Twitter - and even went so far as to call it "upsetting."
The idea that anybody believes this is strangely upsetting to me. https://t.co/G4RlSB9kEI
- J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) May 4, 2016
As other people on Twitter noted, Dumbledore didn't fear death and therefore did not desire immortality. His incomparable goodness also makes it really hard to believe that he would do something so evil in nature. Luckily, we can all let out a sigh of relief and thank Rowling for at least acknowledging this troubling one.

8 Beauty Products a US Open Tennis Pro Actually Wears on the Court
Ana Ivanovic has a badass tennis game and a flawless beauty look to go with it. The pro is known for having glowy, bronze skin and wearing her brunette hair in a high ponytail braid (though when she takes it down, she reveals her gorgeous beach waves). As she gears up to play at the US Open in NYC, we chatted with her to find out what products she actually wears while working out to feel good and still look glam.
"When I'm getting ready to go out on the tennis court, I like to focus more on having clean and healthy skin rather than wearing lots of makeup," she said. "To me, when it comes to beauty, less actually is more. Even if I wanted to wear makeup when training or playing professional matches, it just wouldn't stay on - I sweat too much! I do wish I was able to wear a lip gloss or mascara on the court, but having makeup run down my face would be a distraction and would compromise my game. That said, stepping onto the court with a clean, natural and polished look helps to build my confidence and allows me to focus on my performance."
Keep reading to discover exactly which products Ana swears by!
Daniel Ek Invented Spotify, but His Bride Just Brought Back the Asymmetrical Wedding Dress
When Spotify founder and CEO Daniel Ek got married to his long-term partner, Sofia Levander, the sun was setting on Lake Como, Italy. Sofia walked down the aisle to "November Rain" by Guns N' Roses, showing off her strapless, asymmetrical gown. From the back, it was easy to see that Sofia's train swept the floor, but from the front, her design appeared just a simple cream cocktail dress, so Sofia was able to show off her satin bow shoes. Her yellow bouquet complemented the champagne shade of her number, which featured a strapless ruched bodice.
You might remember that Amal Alamuddin and George Clooney also tied the knot in Italy, but with a guest list that included Mark Zuckerberg and Chris Rock, and a performance by Bruno Mars, the Ek wedding was just as glamorous. Read on to see Sofia's update on the high-low bridal look, and watch her approach the altar. Then check out more snaps from the special day, and get a peek at the red midi Zuckerberg's wife, Priscilla Chan, wore to the ceremony.

Want a Tighter Butt? Then You Better Start Doing This
There was a lot of groaning happening during celebrity trainer Kit Rich's class; her mantra of the day seemed to be "just 10 more seconds, and get lower!" It didn't matter how pretty our location was - poolside at the W Los Angeles - every plea for 10 more seconds sounded like pure torture. That is until Kit explained the method behind her madness: "The lower you drop, the higher your butt." And who wouldn't want a natural butt lift?
It's a simple tip that Kit says women should apply to the basics of butt building - namely squats, lunges, and all their variations. Her advice is to do a set of squats or lunges as you normally would, but before you come out of that last rep, sink into the exercise a little deeper and hold there for five to 10 seconds, and then drop even lower, holding for another 10 seconds. But it doesn't end there - sink even lower, and now pulse for a count of 10. With every progression, Kit advises to maintain even breath and to check in with your form, especially being sure that your core and glutes are engaged and that your knees are behind your toes. "All of this will help you get through the progression easier," she says.
If you're ready for a little butt-lifting of your own, start with this how-to on doing a basic squat. Then, on the very last rep of each set, be sure to incorporate Kit's method for dropping it low!
