Step Is About to Become Your New Favorite Documentary
In Bowie, Maryland, the Lethal Ladies of B.L.S.Y.W. stomp ferociously across the stage. Once they're in formation, they throw their arms in the air and chant, "Hands up! Don't shoot!"
The dancers on stage, aged 14 to 17, are from the inaugural class of the Baltimore Leadership School for Young Women, a charter school which aims to place every one of its low-income students into college. Led by Gari McIntyre - also known as Coach G - they're also the school's first step team. They strike and thumped their bodies through a powerful Black Lives Matter-themed routine at a Maryland state step competition, mere months after the brutal death of Freddie Gray at the hands of Baltimore police officers.
The Lethal Ladies are the focus of STEP, a highly-anticipated documentary from Tony Award-winning Broadway producer Amanda Lipitz, that opens on August 4. The trailer for the film has been watched more than 1.3 million times in the four months since it appeared on YouTube, and garnered glowing reviews following its premiere earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival.
The film centers on three specific team members: Cori Grainger, Tayla Soloman, and captain Blessin Giraldo. Their mothers, teachers and of course the coach are also heavily featured, helping to shape the dancers through their crucial senior year of high school. The pressure to succeed at step is central to the narrative; but the stress of college applications is added in as well, along with the devastating reality that tens of thousands of tuition dollars are not readily available. "You have to find $40,000 for yourself," Paula Dofat, the school's college counselor, tells one student. The film offers an informative look at differing family situations, and college prospects; while Grainger has her heart set on Johns Hopkins University, Giraldo works to find her way out of a 1.1 GPA and 53 missed days of school. But, as Giraldo says, "Step is life."
"Step is life."
Stepping originated in West Africa, and was brought to the U.S. through the transatlantic slave trade. Today, it's associated with fraternities and sororities at HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities), and some U.S. high schools also have teams. McIntyre says she hopes the film will encourage other cultures to recognize stepping for multidisciplinary art form that it is. In an interview with POPSUGAR, Giraldo adds that stepping represented "the perfect opportunity for something to impact my life and keep me attached to school." Giraldo began practicing at age 11. "Step is my life because it was my first creative endeavor," she says.
In addition to personal challenges, the death of Freddie Gray looms large as a backdrop throughout the film. The Lethal Ladies even visit Freddie Gray's memorial, laying flowers for their fellow Baltimorean. One team member goes so far as to speak out about how she didn't like CNN's portrayal of the city, lamenting that she only saw the network cover the riots and violence that occurred in the aftermath of Gray's death.
Giraldo says the step team did not participate in the riots, instead opting to help clean up the day after. Her team, she says, have long been seen as resources and community figures for their friends and others. They received questions about the incident; Giraldo recalls speaking to "little boys and girls about why the CVS was burned down." It's important, she says, to "go out into the community to talk about fixing this issue without violence."
"It taught me a lot about discipline and being a leader. You become the beat. Step is a whole other level of dancing."
Education, as well as the step team, are seen as paths away from violence for Giraldo and her teammates. "For us, focusing on stepping helps us correlate something with a deeper meaning," says Giraldo. "It taught me a lot about discipline and being a leader. You become the beat. Step is a whole other level of dancing."
McIntyre still lives on Gilmor Street, the road where Gray was arrested. An all-around mentor to the team, she's had conversations about life skills, such as personal hygiene and credit, but also about police brutality. In reference to Gray's death, she told the Lethal Ladies that: "It could have been you any time of the day."
While the content of a step performance depends on the choreographer, McIntyre leans towards the political with her routines. She was the mastermind behind the Black Lives Matter routine and one she calls Black Girl Magic, which incorporates parts of actor Jesse Williams' landmark speech at the 2016 BET Awards. "Just because we're magic doesn't mean we're not real," Williams said during the speech, inspiring both the title and theme behind the routine.
"I wanted the conversation to change," says McIntyre. "These are young people, they're shooting for higher education, and even if they weren't, they're people and they have value."
"Joy, hope, disgust, anger. Because you're stomping and clapping and using your entire body, these are the reasons why stepping is a revolutionary fervor."
It's mesmerizing to watch these young women perform; their bodies moving as one unit, and creating music. "Stepping is really a way to channel a lot of feelings, and the students use it for coping," says McIntyre, who stresses that step is not dance - it's a release of emotions. "Joy, hope, disgust, anger. Because you're stomping and clapping and using your entire body, these are the reasons why stepping is a revolutionary fervor."
Giraldo, who has just finished her first year of college, hopes the government will review the education budgets again and recognize how the arts, something that changed her life, are vitally important. Unfortunately, that seems unlikely given President Donald Trump's plan to not only slash $9.2 billion from the Department of Education, but to dismantle most federal arts funding. But optimism never hurts.
Though they're on the edge of stardom, and have even been featured in VOGUE, Giraldo and her fellow Lethal Ladies are excited about representing the positivity and possibility of Baltimore. "STEP the movie is going to show what guys and girls are capable of when people pay attention," she says.
"Baltimore has a different sense of pride when you get there. When I come home now, I feel empowered. I feel amazing."
The Internet Called Out Fox News For Once Again Failing to Address News
The investigation into whether or not Russia interfered with the 2016 election took a serious turn on Aug. 3 when Special Counsel Robert Mueller called for a grand jury. According to the Wall Street Journal, the grand jury recently started its work and the call indicates that the investigation is broadening even further in scope. While major TV networks halted programming to hone in on this recent development, Fox News continued its longstanding trend of ignoring major negative news about President Donald Trump. The internet finally had enough and turned Fox News into a meme.
The meme presents the conservative news outlet as willing to cover any other news that doesn't portray Trump terribly - or tell its viewers the truth.

This High School Senior's McDonald's Photo Shoot Deserves a Pulitzer Prize
When Mikayla Cleckler thought about where to have her high school senior photos taken, she knew exactly where to go: McDonald's. And the result is just about the most amazing photo shoot you've ever seen - plenty of fries included. Mikayla is a 17-year-old senior at Northeast Jones High School in Mississippi, and in the words of Jana Cooley, her cousin and the photographer behind the lens, she's "McDone." To celebrate her last year of school and to document her love of McDonald's in an unexpected way, Mikayla posed with fries, a McDonald's employee, and her favorite sandwich in the epic photo shoot - and looked fierce doing it all.
POPSUGAR reached out to the photographer to hear about the inspiration behind the creative photos. Jana told POPSUGAR via email, "Mikayla is actually my cousin and one of my best friends. She texted me and asked if I would mind taking her senior pictures and I responded, 'You know we're taking these at McDonald's, right?' She is OBSESSED with their Buttermilk Chicken Sandwiches and just knowing the type of person she is, we wouldn't be doing the world justice if we didn't incorporate a little humor. We did take 'normal' senior photos as well."
Each photo is too good not to see, so read on to appreciate every McDonald's moment from Mikayla's album, and prepare to pass on the ingenious idea to all the high school seniors you know. Jana said, "I think people are lovin'" - get it? - "these photos because they aren't the 'normal' senior pictures you see, and I think we can all relate to them in some type of way." Agreed.

The Top 5 Most Likely Candidates For Azor Ahai on Game of Thrones
This week, more than ever, Game of Thrones made one thing abundantly clear. All of this b*tch-slapping - the drama between the dragon-wielding Daenerys and Mad Queen incumbent Cersei and the edgy Disney pirate Euron and even the late, downright savage Olenna Tyrell - none of it really matters. The important fight is with the White Walkers, who are getting closer to The Wall and getting ready to f*ck everybody all the way up. Luckily, if you're in tight with the Lord of Light, you'll know that Westeros has an ace in the hole: the prophecy of Azor Ahai.
Basically, Azor Ahai is a mythical hero who already defeated the White Walkers a superlong time ago. In the present day, though, there is a "Prince That Was Promised," a reincarnated Azor Ahai who will, once again, defeat the army of the undead. The question is, who will be our hero?! There are specifications, according to the prophecy: "When the red star bleeds and the darkness gathers, Azor Ahai shall be born again amidst smoke and salt to wake dragons out of stone." So, all we have to do is figure out who fits the bill and we should be good to go, right? Um, kind of. The thing is, finding the resurrected Azor Ahai is harder than it looks. Thankfully, we have a few very strong candidates.
The Sweet and Uplifting Way Princess Diana Told William About His Father's Affair
Prince William had an especially close bond with his late mother, Princess Diana, and has talked openly about their close relationship in recent months ahead of the 20th anniversary of her tragic death. While William hasn't been quite as outspoken about the impact that his parents' divorce had on him and his brother, Prince Harry, there are a few instances that likely influenced and cemented the connection he had with Diana at the time.
Diana and Prince Charles separated in 1992 amid rumors of infidelity on both sides, but particularly concerning Charles's ongoing affair with former girlfriend Camilla Parker-Bowles. It was in 1986 that Charles rekindled their romance, and when Diana caught wind of it, she didn't back down; the normally shy princess pulled a badass move when she confronted Camilla (at her sister's birthday party, no less) about the affair, destroying what little harmony was left in her marriage. By 1995, Diana made another brazen gesture when she did a sit-down, televised interview with BBC's Martin Bashir. In it, she not only made the infamous quote, "There were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded," but she also revealed that she told William, then 13, about his father's extramarital affair. "I told William, 'If you find someone you love in life, you must hang onto it and look after it,'" Diana said. "'And if you are lucky enough to find someone who loves you, then you must protect it.'"
She went on to admit that she didn't want to end the marriage, saying, "I don't want a divorce, but, obviously, we need clarity on a situation that has been of enormous discussion over the last three years," adding, "I await my husband's decision of which way we are all going to go." In an unprecedented move, the queen sent letters to Diana and Charles requesting that they divorce immediately. The divorce was finalized on Aug. 28, 1996, and Diana was killed in a car accident almost one year later. And judging by William's picture-perfect relationship with wife Kate Middleton, we have to imagine that he has taken his mother's advice to heart.
Some of the Hottest Guys on Game of Thrones Happen to Be Dead
On Game of Thrones, Westeros is rife with drama, blood, and, yes, snow - but there's also a pretty healthy handful of eye candy under all that fur and leather. But because of all the aforementioned drama, a lot of those hotties end up six feet under. Let's look back at the sexiest dead guys from Game of Thrones IRL - may they rest in peace.
Kate Middleton Is Actually Much Younger Than She Seems
Kate Middleton usually looks so ladylike and composed during her royal outings that she often seems older than she really is. But it's time we settled this once and for all: how old is the Duchess of Cambridge? Well, Kate was born on January 9, 1982, which makes her 35 years old. In fact, she's actually five and a half months older than Prince William.
The way Kate's chosen to ring in her birthday over the years is also an indication of what else was happening in her life at that time. For her 35th this year, Kate reportedly celebrated privately at her home in Norfolk, Anmer Hall, with William and their two kids, Princess Charlotte and Prince George.
This Week's Game of Thrones Calls Back to the First Episode (and You Probably Missed It)
Poor Jon Snow is the wolf that cried White Walker. On this week's Game of Thrones, Jon and Daenerys finally meet for the first time, but he's left disappointed when Dany doesn't immediately spring into action when Jon tells her about the impending White Walker apocalypse. Later, when he and Tyrion are having a brood-off on the bluffs, he vents his frustration about how nobody believes him, saying "It's hard for me to fathom, it really is. If someone told me about the White Walkers and the Night King. . ." then he takes a long pause, seeming to realize the truth: someone did tell Jon.
If you remember back to the very first episode of Game of Thrones, Ned executes a man who deserted the Night's Watch after witnessing a White Walker attack. As Jon, Robb, and Bran look on, the ranger begs that Ned spread the word about what's coming, saying, "I know I broke my oath. I know I'm a deserter. I should've gone back to the Wall and warned them, but I saw what I saw. I saw the White Walkers. People need to know." After the beheading, Bran asks his father if the man was lying and Ned replies, "A mad man sees what he sees."
As Jon seems to recall this memory, he tells Tyrion, "You probably don't believe me." Because now he's the guy who left the Night's Watch to warn people about the White Walkers, and he's the one who sounds like a mad man. It's a full-circle moment, but hopefully Jon will meet a better fate than his fellow believer.

Woman Who Encouraged Her Boyfriend to Kill Himself Via Text Sentenced to 15 Months in Prison
BREAKING NEWS: Judge sentences Michelle Carter, woman in suicide texting case, to 2.5 yrs; She'll serve 15 months. https://t.co/zE57snUHPb http://pic.twitter.com/P2Kgq1Topu
- Fox News (@FoxNews) August 3, 2017
Michelle Carter, the 20-year-old who urged her boyfriend to kill himself, was sentenced to two and half a years in Massachusetts prison on Aug. 3. She will only serve 15 months in prison, however, with the rest of her sentencing suspended. Judge Lawrence Moniz, who read out the sentencing, will let Carter stay free while the rest of her appeals settle in the Massachusetts state court system.
Carter was convicted of involuntary manslaughter on June 16 for the death of Conrad Roy III in 2014. According to text messages sent to her friends, then-17-year-old Carter told 18-year-old Roy to "get back in" to his car as it filled with carbon monoxide. Roy, who had suffered with mental health issues in the past, died on July 12, 2014, from carbon monoxide poisoning. His body was found on July 13 in a Kmart parking lot.
Moniz also sentenced Carter to five years probation and ordered her "not to profit in any way from the events of the case," reports BuzzFeed. Before sentencing, Roy's mother, Lynn Roy, told the court the following: "I still cannot come to terms that another person who knew and described how much they loved my son would want to inflict so much pain. He is the most amazing human being and would have had a bright future."
If you or a loved one are in need of any help, the National Suicide Prevention organization has several resources and a 24/7 lifeline 1-800-273-8255.

13 Reasons You Need to Give Your Child a Sibling
While growing up an only child definitely had its perks - think undivided attention, the entire back seat during car trips, forced independence and maturity, and strong imagination development - I always felt like there was something missing, and I still do today.
Growing up, I listened as my close circle of girlfriends - all of whom have older brothers three years our senior - would complain about fighting with their brother over something like having to sit in the undesirable seat in the car (the one behind Dad with less leg room) or that they got pummeled to the floor over whose turn it was to play with the one Game Boy in the house (another perk: I had my own; it was see-through purple and amazing) - and it would make me jealous that they even had someone to fight with.
The times I really felt the jealousy, though, were when I'd be over at one of their houses, and I'd see the tender moments between siblings. How fun it was for them to always have someone to play with and bounce ideas off of. I spent Summer afternoons at the pool with my cousins, praying that someone would mistake us all for siblings so that I could feel part of something, and I would write stories in my head about the most amazing big brother or the cutest little sister and all of our adventures together.
Needless to say, the cons well outweighed the pros for me when it came to being an only child, and these 13 things are just a few of the reasons.
- There was no one to ever blame anything I did wrong on, like forgetting to unload the dishwasher or letting my markers leak through white paper into the wood table (sorry, Mom).
- I had no one who would truly understand to complain to about my parents. Yeah, all parents are alike, but I wanted to talk about my parents with someone else who shared them with me - our parents.
- An older sibling would have carved a path in life that I could have either emulated or learned from.
- A sibling's friends would mean new friends for me, and who doesn't like new friends?
- Even when I could finally get an adult to agree to play with me, their imagination was the worst. I needed a little mind like mine to dream up magic worlds and new games with.
- There would never have been a dull moment in the house. You can only pretend your stuffed animals are alive and talking to you for so long.
- A brother would have been a protector, someone to give me insight into the other half of the world, someone to beat up all of my ex-boyfriends.
- A sister would have been a partner in crime, someone to share clothes with (and fight about said clothes with), to talk about boys late at night with when we thought our parents weren't listening (they would have been).
- I think I would be a much more patient person if I had to deal with sharing and fighting with a sibling. Alas, I am kind of impatient.
- Some of the pressure to be successful and intelligent would have been shaved off the surface and shared with others, which would have made things go a little smoother for me on report-card day.
- I constantly make fun of the characters that are my parents, and let's just say my comments and sarcasm don't always go over so well. It would have been nice to call in for backup once in a while.
- When the unthinkable happens and I need to say goodbye to my parents, I will carry the burden and sadness on my own.
- Friends come and go, but a sibling is tied to you forever - they have to put up with your crap; it's part of the deal.
I think a part of me will always long for the versions of siblings I've created in my head, people who look and act a little like me. I have grown to accept that the closest I might ever get to being called someone's sister is if my future husband has a sibling, but it makes me truly sad to know that I'll never have the real thing. A sibling is like a built-in best friend, so if you have one, tell them what they mean to you, because maybe not everyone would agree with me, but I think you were given one of life's greatest gifts.
7 Fun Facts About Iskra Lawrence, the Woman Shaking Up the Modeling Industry
Iskra Lawrence is taking the modeling world by storm thanks to her partnership with Aerie. Not only is she the global role model for the lingerie and intimate apparel brand, but she's also a body-positivity activist and frequently encourages women to embrace their bodies no matter what their shape or size. Back in April 2016, Iskra clapped back at a body shamer by covering her body in snacks and flipping off the troll in question, saying, "This is for anyone who has ever been called FAT," and seven months later, she stripped down to her underwear on a packed NYC subway train to protest body shaming. Here are seven fun facts about the model.
- She's English. Iskra was born in Worcester, England. Her mother is from Northern Ireland and her father is British.
- She's 26 years old. Her birthday is Sept. 11, 1990.
- She's actually pretty short for a model. Iskra is 5'9", while the average model is 5'10". "I'm a little bit of shorty in the industry, but I own it," Iskra joked in a video for Runway Riot.
- Speaking of Runway Riot, Iskra is the managing editor of the site. Runway Riot is a website dedicated to celebrating women of all shapes and sizes. In addition to being a fashion and beauty site, Runway Riot "addresses real issues that women face on a daily basis."
- She has webbed toes. "Not crazy webbed," she said in a video for Runway Riot. "I don't look like I have duck feet, but they are webbed and it kind of makes sense because I was a national swimmer, so they probably helped my swimming skills."
- Her first major shoot was for Claire's in the UK. In a video for Runway Riot, Iskra revealed she was "about 14 or 15" at the time. "It was really bizarre . . . . That was my first major shoot and I guess I got a taste for it and it made me want to be modeling even more."
- Her name has a special meaning. Iskra's parents chose her name, and "Iskra" means "spark" in Russian. In fact, it was "the name of the first communist newspaper that sparked the revolution in Russia," and her parents thought Iskra was the "spark of their lives that took them from just being a couple to being a family."
I Hated Underwire Bras - Until I Found the 1 That Changed Everything
As a pretty full B cup, I viewed underwire bras as a necessary evil. I never loved the way they felt, but - if I'm being honest - didn't like the way the girls looked without one. I'd found bras that did the job all right and I got through the day, but I religiously broke into a happy dance at home when I could finally throw the bra across the room and just be free, much like Gwyneth Paltrow unwrapping the binding in that famous Shakespeare in Love scene. I figured that's what most women did, quietly suffered through, secretly tugging at the underwire that was digging into their rib cage, and counting down the hours till they could free the nipple too.
I'm in fashion and I'm generally pretty resourceful - I should have known better, done my research, and found another option. Fortunately, in this business, sometimes the best things come to you; that's how I serendipitously met the bra that changed everything. When a little-known brand claiming to revolutionize the bra industry reached out in 2014, I was all ears. ThirdLove was launching fit technology that promised to give you the right bra size once and for all. OK, that's a step in the right direction, I thought. I remember being amazed by the iPhone app and the testing they had done with tons of women to answer fit questions and complications we all face (and apparently just deal with). Still, what's stuck with me three years after meeting the brand is the sample they left me.
I wear it religiously (and finally bought more of my own) - the The 24/7 Classic T-Shirt Bra ($68). And here's the kicker: I'm wearing it at home - when I don't even "have to" (mostly because I forget I have it on). It somehow cushions, cradles, and keeps everything lifted like a dream. It doesn't push things up, just keeps them, you know, right where you'd want them; and it looks seamless under everything from a fitted white t-shirt to a sheer black dress. It's the only bra I've ever forgotten that I'm wearing, until I glance in the mirror and see everything pleasantly perky.
I've worn the sh*t out of this bra with no shame. I've worn it for weeks at a time without washing (gross, I know), simply because it's the single most comfortable piece of underwear I own. I've worn it on long flights without waking up three hours in and cursing the band digging into my ribcage like a fishhook; worn it on the dance floor at weddings while jumping up and down like an idiot to "Shout"; and barely noticed I have it on when I lay down for an impromptu afternoon nap. Like the best kind of friend - or the mother-in-law you wish you had - it supports, never smothers. Now, tell me that's not the dream, then make it a reality and get your own.

Let's Be Real, the Lawrence Brothers Were the Original Hemsworths
Long before the Hemsworth and Jonas brothers became the objects of your affection, Hollywood was obsessed with a different set of celebrity siblings: the Lawrence brothers. The eldest, Joey, first got his start on shows like Gimme a Break! and Blossom, but is well-known for starring alongside his younger brothers, Matthew and Andrew, on the sitcom Brotherly Love. Aside from sharing the screen in Disney Channel original movies like Horse Sense and its sequel, Jumping Ship, the brothers have also shared a number of sweet moments together on the red carpet. And to top it all off? They might have another TV series underway! Get ready to feel incredibly nostalgic as you check out their Hollywood evolution ahead.
The Internet Is on a Mission to Understand Trump's Bizarre "Local Milk People" Comment
Another day, another Donald Trump comment that has us all scratching our heads. According to a new transcript published by The Washington Post, Trump said that the reason he "hates" allowing refugees into the United States is because "[t]hey are not going to be wonderful people who go on to work for the local milk people" . . . Yeah, we're not sure what he meant by that either. The internet was quick to react to the bizarre comment - which may or may not have been in reference to US dairy farms - with their own thoughtful and hilarious explanations of what the POTUS might have meant. We've rounded up the best of the bunch for you ahead.

1 Thing Cersei Did on Game of Thrones Proves That She's Already the Mad Queen
Warning: the following contains spoilers for season seven of Game of Thrones.
Let's get one thing straight from the get-go: Game of Thrones's Cersei Lannister is an evil maniac. She's hellbent on revenge, not hesitating to kill thousands of people in order to get revenge on a select few. However, when we call her "The Mad Queen," we're not just referring to this level of royal craziness; it's a reference to one of the Iron Throne's former occupants, the famously cruel "Mad King" Aerys II Targaryen.
After blowing the Great Sept of Baelor sky-high in the show's season six finale, fans began drawing comparisons between Cersei and Daenerys Targaryen's father due to her use of wildfire. But it is her revenge against Ellaria Sand in season seven that proves Cersei has transformed into a Mad Queen in her own right. To understand this, we must first journey back to an era before the show's timeline even begins.
Cersei has transformed into a Mad Queen in her own right.
Back when the Mad King Aerys still sat on the throne in King's Landing, Ned Stark's father, Lord Rickard, and older brother, Brandon, journeyed to confront the ruler over the acts of his son, Prince Rhaegar. Rhaegar "kidnapped" Ned's sister Lyanna and swept her away from the family, so Brandon and Rickard demanded that King Aerys intervene. But because of his own madness and cruelty, Aerys decided to take their lives instead.
The History
The dragon king didn't simply perform a basic execution on the two Starks, either - he tortured them both. In the story told in the A Song of Ice and Fire books, he tied a rope around Brandon's neck and set a sword just out of reach, so that the eldest son strangled himself to death while trying to stop the king from roasting Rickard alive with wildfire. The death was brutal and sadistic: as he burned to death inside his plates of armor, Rickard watched his son die trying to save him, and as Brandon choked to death, the last thing he saw was his own father being consumed by wildfire. It is this final, insane act by Aerys that then sparks young Robert Baratheon and Ned Stark to wage war against the king in what comes to be known as Robert's Rebellion.
You can see where this is going, right?
Cersei's Connection to Aerys
When Cersei enacts revenge against Ellaria Sand in the most recent season, she does it in a way that's eerily reminiscent of the Mad King's method. After kissing Ellaria's daughter with poisoned lips, Cersei calmly explains to the Dornish woman that she has shackled her just out of reach from her daughter so that she is forced to watch her die slowly and painfully. However, unlike the Mad King, Cersei takes it a step further by forcing Ellaria to stay alive, watching her little girl's corpse decay, all the while held just out of reach. We wouldn't be surprised if Ellaria maims herself in the struggle to reach and comfort her daughter, which adds to the f*cked-up-ness of the whole situation.
Wild, right? Cersei has officially crossed over into the realm of cruelty and chaos, taking cards directly out of Aerys's book. But will Jaime, who made a name for himself as a kingslayer for killing the mad ruler before Cersei, have the strength to recognize - and put a stop to - his twin sister's descent into madness? Only time will tell.

I'm So Obsessed With the Pink Glow of This $4 Lip Balm, I Keep 1 in Every Purse
For me, finding the perfect lip balm has always been a challenge. They're either too slick and greasy or thick and jelly-like. I'm not into either of those options. That's why I jumped at the chance to test my friend's tried-and-true favorite, Maybelline Baby Lips Moisturizing Lip Balm. "I know how particular you are," she told me. "I've got a good feeling about this one; give it a chance." So I picked up her $4 pick at the drugstore in the shade My Pink. This specific version of the balm includes pH pigments in the formula that adapt to your personal lip chemistry - the results are a perfect pink shade for your complexion. After one try, to say I was obsessed is an understatement.
What I love about Baby Lips is that it's ultrahydrating and smooth, but it doesn't feel too slippery or heavy. The lip balm provides a sheer baby-pink glow that brings color to my face without looking over-the-top. My lips feel moisturized for an entire workday if I put it on in the morning, so I don't have to constantly reapply. After about a week of using it every single day, my lips looked more supple and smooth even before application. It also has an SPF 20 sunscreen in it, so you'll stay protected from rays.
What's even more enjoyable is the subtly sweet taste - it reminds me of sugar cookies. Putting this stuff on is literally treating your lips. It's subdued enough to use every day, yet I also find myself wearing it for nights out when I just want a hint of rosiness. Try it for yourself, and I bet you'll be just as satisfied. It's so affordable that I have a few stacked up in my makeup drawer. Read on to see where you can snag this lip balm - you'll be doing yourself a favor.
The Cast of To All the Boys I've Loved Before Is Already Looking Pretty Perfect
If you've read To All the Boys I've Loved Before, the first novel in Jenny Han's bestselling trilogy, then you're probably already obsessed with it. If you haven't, don't worry - you have plenty of time to fall in love with the YA books before they hit the big screen (the first one only recently began production). The story follows Lara Jean Song Covey, a teenager whose secret love letters to her former crushes accidentally get sent out. To avoid admitting her past feelings, she fakes a relationship with one of them, but she quickly realizes she may not be pretending after all.
Details about the movie, including the cast, have been slowly coming in over the past few weeks, and Han has even been sharing adorable set photos on social media. She also expressed her excitement over the fact that her diverse characters, which aren't typically seen as leads in the predominantly white romantic comedy genre, get three movies with its sequels, P.S. I Still Love You and Always and Forever, Lara Jean. "The most important thing for me as the author is seeing an Asian American girl in the starring role, and with this movie, we get to see not one but THREE!" she wrote. "That is truly groundbreaking."

1 Mom Is Sharing Her Twins' Cribs to Prevent Other Moms From Making the Same Mistake She Did
For Alison Johnson, mom to 18-month-old twins Caleb and Libby, placing her children's cribs side by side along the same wall was a no-brainer, as many moms of multiples want their babies to sleep close at night - but what almost happened to her son has made her rethink her nursery setup.
Shortly after putting Caleb down for a nap one afternoon, Johnson heard him crying. She waited a few minutes, and when she went in to check on him, she found a horrifying situation - Caleb had climbed out of his crib, his body had slid into the space between his and Libby's crib, and he was struggling to hold himself up by his arms. Had his little arms slipped through the crack as well, he would have been hanging by his head.
Johnson is sharing a photo of the cribs with her story to warn other moms who may have similar nursery setups. "What's even more scary is that like many moms, I generally use nap time as an opportunity to shower. Had I done that today and checked on him after five minutes, he would have literally hung himself. When baby proofing, I never in a million years would have seen this as a potential danger," she wrote.

Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders Wants to Change Your Mind About Those Brothers
Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders, premiering Sept. 26 and starring Edie Falco, is NBC's stab at the true crime drama, but with the Dick Wolf (Law & Order, Chicago Fire) brand attached. But in tackling the famous Menendez brothers trial over eight hours of TV, Wolf and Co. are not actually looking to present a docu-style dramatization. They're taking a stance on the trial and that stance is that the brothers were wrongly convicted of the first-degree murder of their parents.
Wolf told the 2017 TCA Summer press tour audience that this is the first time a show of his has "had a collective agenda," which is to bring to light just how mishandled this case was.
"The research revealed things none of us knew, and that's one of the things that I think is most impactful about the eight hours," says Wolf. "I don't care what attitude you go in with, your mind is going to receive information that I think will change a lot of people's attitudes."
"This is one of the crimes of the century," he continues. "It's absolutely horrible, but when you see the information, I think people are going to realize well, yeah, they did it, but it wasn't first-degree murder with no possibility of parole. They probably should have been out eight or 10 years ago because they should have been convicted of first-degree manslaughter, which is a different punishment than first-degree murder. So yes, this is a show that has an agenda."
One of the things the show is going to focus on is the molestation the brothers alleged they endured at the hands of their parents, which is part of what led them to commit the crime. "Both boys were molested by their father, both boys were molested by their mother, according to their testimony, which is corroborated by testimony from their relatives and photographs that were found," says Wolf.
But another big facet of the trials that Wolf and showrunner Rene Balcer say is largely unknown is how desperate the Los Angeles court was to notch a win in a high-profile case. Balcer pointed out that in the year prior to the Menendez trial, Los Angeles County and District Attorney Gil Garcetti had lost several high-profile cases: Rodney King, O.J. Simpson, and the McMartin preschool child molestation case.
"So the DA's office had a pretty huge chip on its shoulder and was definitely looking for a conviction by any means," said Balcer. Wolf added, "[We will show] the degree of implicit political collusion between the judge and the district attorney's office in the second trial to assure a conviction."
In conclusion, Wolf says that one of the big reasons they wanted to dramatize this case is because "there were major mitigating circumstances" for the crime that the average viewer may not be aware of.
The Complete Timeline of Emma Roberts and Evan Peters' Turbulent Romance
Emma Roberts and Evan Peters started dating back in 2012 after meeting on the set of their movie, Adult World, and in the short four years since then, the two have shared more drama than some of Hollywood's biggest blockbusters. We're talking at least two breakups, one nasty domestic violence incident, makeups, deleting all social media traces of each other, sharing the screen on American Horror Story, and a broken engagement. While they appear to be back together now, we wouldn't be surprised if their long and complicated love story took another sharp turn soon.
Meryl Streep's Marriage Has Lasted as Long as Her Career
Meryl Streep knows a thing or two about long-term success, and her marriage is no exception. She and sculptor Don Gummer have been married since 1978, and he's been by her side at a number of industry events and award shows in the years since. Meryl may have been mentioned more than God in Oscars acceptance speeches over the last decade, but at the 2012 Academy Awards, it was her husband who received a sweet shout-out. When Meryl won best actress for The Iron Lady, she said, "First I'm going to thank Don because when you thank your husband at the end of the speech they play him out with the music, and I want him to know that everything I value most in our lives you've given me."
The pair first met after her partner John Cazale - of The Godfather and The Deer Hunter - died of bone cancer. She was invited to move into the vacant apartment of her brother's friend Don, who was traveling abroad, and when Don returned, she ended up staying, and they were married within six months. The couple now have four kids together, including one son and Meryl's three look-alike daughters. Look back at the pair's sweet relationship through the years.
There's an Island in the US Where Wild Ponies Roam Free, and You Can Visit
In addition to the Barbie jeep I begged my parents for growing up, my very own pony was another item on my wish list that never became a reality. If you, too, are still waiting for your pony dreams to come true, then a visit to Assateague Island should be on your bucket list. The Assateague State Park is an oceanfront park that guests can visit and spot the famous wild ponies roaming free on the land.
Local experts have theorized that the ponies arrived on the island on a shipwrecked boat in the late 18th or early 19th century. "Others attribute their arrival by pirates drawn to the island who ultimately abandoned the animals," says the park, although they say the more likely (and less exciting) theory is that colonial farmers used the island for grazing areas so that they could avoid paying taxes on the land.
And you won't just see the ponies galloping off in the distance; these animals look pretty comfortable with people based on the photos, and the site says they walk in the same areas as humans and may even try to steal your lunch from coolers and tables! But heads up: it's illegal to touch or feed the wild ponies for their own safety and yours. Assateague Island is partially in Maryland and partially in Virginia, and the two herds are split between the states. There are estimates that around 90 ponies are in the Maryland herd and about 150 in the Virginia one.
Check out the gorgeous photos ahead of the ponies living their best lives at the beach!
I'm a Huge Game of Thrones Fan, and I'm Confused as F*ck All the Time
Game of Thrones is one of the best shows on television. Not only is the writing superb, but the characters are intriguing, the setting is unusual, and the deaths just do. not. stop. While I consider myself to be a pretty big fan of the show, I also constantly find myself shutting down when other people talk about it. Everyone else seems to know every detail about every little thing, and I still struggle to keep the character names straight. Not only are the different houses flooded with incest and bastard children, but the layout of Westeros, the different alliances, and whatever is happening beyond The Wall is . . . a lot. Keep reading to see if you also fall into the "Confused Game of Thrones Fan" category, because I really hope I'm not the only one.

Rejoice! The Will & Grace Reboot Has Already Been Renewed For Season 2
The Will & Grace reboot doesn't premiere on NBC until Sept. 28, but the show has already been picked up for a second season. It was announced during NBC's TCA Summer press tour on Thursday that the highly anticipated reboot will be coming back for season two, and that the season one episode count has been increased from 12 to 16. That's a whole lot of Karen Walker!
A reboot of the beloved sitcom, which originally aired from 1998 to 2006, was first announced back in April after a reunion video between the stars went viral. Since then, the original cast members - Debra Messing, Eric McCormack, Megan Mullally, and Sean Hayes - have shared behind-the-scenes snaps via social media, and just this week, the male leads made out for the cameras at a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the show in NYC.

Why This Photo of a Little Girl Standing on a Toilet Will Keep You Up at Night
"I took this picture because initially I thought it was funny." That's how Michigan mom Stacey Wehrman Feeley began a Facebook post, centered on an image of her young daughter standing on their bathroom toilet.
But the instant her child told her what she was actually doing, Feeley broke down in tears.
"She was practicing for a lockdown drill at her preschool and what you should do if you are stuck in a bathroom," she wrote. "At that moment, all innocence of what I thought my three-year-old possessed was gone."
Feeley decided to post the powerful image with an accompanying message begging for more gun control and changes to the nation's current laws. It has more than 7,000 reactions and has been shared more than 10,000 times since she posted it last week.

Would You Trek to This "Deadly" Swimming Hole in Hawaii Just For the 'Gram?
Queen's Bath swimming hole on Kauai's north coast might look beautiful, but it can actually be really dangerous. The naturally occurring sinkhole sits inside black lava rock but is exposed to rough surf waters at times, which is what makes it particularly dangerous to swim in if you're not careful. This swimming spot in particular has experienced drownings because of waves and the current, so it's imperative to check the weather before making the trek to these turquoise waters. If the waves are supposed to be under four feet, it should be safe to take a dip.
Don't think your daring swim in Queen's Bath will be easy to get to, though. No, swimmers have to trek through rough lava rock just to get there. But once you make it to this beautiful oasis, you can swim with some of Hawaii's most loved creatures, like ghost fish and angel fish.
So what do you think - is this serene-looking swimming hole worth all the danger? Many, many people, including those who shared all these photos, seem to think so. As for me, I'm good staying inland.
Kendall Jenner Got the Most Out of Her Summer Dress With This Simple Styling Hack
If you're trying to figure out how to get the most out of your Summer wardrobe, look no further than Kendall Jenner's recent outfit. The supermodel, who was seen shopping with sister Kim Kardashian, used an amazing transitional season styling hack while wearing an off-the-shoulder dress by Zimmermann.
Rather than wearing a pair of strappy sandals, Kendall styled the mini dress with a pair of black suede boots by Alexandre Vauthier. By wearing knee-high boots that offered more coverage, the model proved that you can easily wear your floaty dresses into the cooler months. Try this simple styling hack for yourself with a similar pair of boots.
Mom Tells Teachers Her Daughter Is "Done" With Homework in Bold Email
If you ever worried about why your child was coming home with hours upon hours of homework each night, Bunmi Laditan - the mom behind The Honest Toddler blog - can not only relate, but she can also serve as a reminder that you have the power to put a stop to it.
"My kid is done with homework," she wrote in a heated Facebook post. "I just sent an email to her school letting her know she's all done. I said 'drastically reduce' but I was trying to be polite because she's finished."
She noted how her 10-year-old daughter, Maya - who is in school from 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. and still has two to three hours of homework each evening - "loves learning" but has become more and more stressed by school. She's developed chest pains, and she's begun waking up before dawn worrying about her workload.
"How does homework until 6:30, then dinner, then an hour to relax (or finish the homework) before bed make any sense at all?" she asked. "Is family time not important? Is time spent just being a child relaxing at home not important?"
She continued:
Children need downtime after school the same way adults need downtime after work. They need to play with their siblings. They need to bond with their parents in a relaxed atmosphere, not one where everyone is stressed about fractions because - SURPRISE - I'm not a teacher. Children need time to just enjoy their childhoods or is that just for the weekends . . . although we also do homework on Sundays.
So, after consulting a tutor and a therapist, Bunmi sent an email to Maya's teachers that let them know she wasn't going to allow her daughter to get wrapped up in the pressures of unnecessary homework any longer.
She's not yet certain how the school will react but is prepared to homeschool if necessary. She'll have to hire a tutor and find a group of parents doing the same thing, "but I have no choice at this point," she wrote.
"We all want our children to grow up and succeed in the world. While I believe in education, I don't believe for one second that academics should consume a child's life. I don't care if she goes to Harvard one day," she said. "My kid needs to be a kid."

Despite only about 10 percent of the world's population having a preference for the left hand, there are plenty of famous people who fall into the category. Seven US presidents since 1923, including Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, have been lefties, as were astronaut Neil Armstrong and former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, and it turns out there's a whole host of them in Hollywood, too. What's Better Than 1 Noomi Rapace? Watch the What Happened to Monday Trailer and Find Out
For any Orphan Black fans mourning the sci-fi drama's final season, Netflix is here to help. The streaming network has another inventive futuristic feature film in the works titled What Happened to Monday, starring Noomi Rapace, Willem Dafoe, and Glenn Close. If the cast alone isn't enough to convince you to watch it (it was for me, to be honest), then you'll be happy to know that Rapace stars as identical septuplets - Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday - who must live in hiding in a world where families are limited to one child due to overpopulation.
Their father (Dafoe) allows them out of the house only on the day corresponding with their name, so they maintain only one public identity. The government picks up on the scam, however, and when Monday doesn't return home after her day out, her sisters have to band together to save her. Watch the trailer above, and catch it when it hits Netflix on Aug. 18.
