The Best Sex Positions to Try After Pregnancy
The exciting or dreaded six-week postpartum appointment (depending on how you look at it) is usually the time when you're given the green light for sex again. Once the doctor tells you and your partner that it's safe to be intimate, you might immediately feel nervous since so much has changed with your body.
Whether you had a vaginal delivery or a C-section, things are still different . . . down there, and sex will be different too. While it may be a little uncomfortable, sex shouldn't hurt. Urologist Dana Rice, MD and owner of UTI Tracker, says, "Uncomfortable intercourse can lead to vaginal and urethral irritation, which can mimic UTI symptoms, which is the last thing any new mom needs."
Your previous go-to position may not feel so great, and something you never thought about trying may be your new favorite, so have patience with yourself and your partner when working it all out. And keep in mind that some women find sex even more pleasurable after having a baby. Katy Zvolerin, spokesperson for licensed marriage and sex therapist Dr. Kat, says, "Many women report that they are more orgasmic after childbirth than before." So, have some fun trying the following positions to see if you're one of those women!
1. Female on Top
This position allows the woman more control, Katy explains. "The female-on-top position is a great way to get back in the saddle, so to speak, since the new mom can control the speed and depth of penetration. For women who've had a C-section, this position can also help protect the scar and alleviate pressure. Try facing your partner or facing away to see which feels best, as everyone is different."
2. Spooning
Katy says spooning "is an excellent choice for women who want to take things slow and easy in the beginning" and that many women say this position is the most comfortable for them after giving birth. Side-lying also takes pressure off the lower back and helps stay away from any C-section scarring.
3. Missionary
Don't discount the reliable missionary position. If you take it slow by starting with this tried-and-true position, you'll be able to see what areas feel good and which may be uncomfortable. Putting a pillow under your lower back or bottom may make this position even more comfortable, as the pelvic tilt that occurs may pull on a C-section scar or put stress on the lower back.
4. On a Chair
Sometimes staying out of the bed may offer more comfortable positioning, especially when your partner sits in a sturdy chair and you are on top, once again being able to control depth and speed. "It's important to keep in mind that changes in hormones after childbirth can cause vaginal dryness, so a water-based lubricant can help make things easier too," Katy continued.
5. Partner Standing
If you lie on your back and scoot to the edge of the bed until just your torso and upper body are on the bed, your partner can stand and hold your legs up. This position also helps take the pressure off your lower back.
Again, always be sure to communicate with your partner about how things feel to get the most out of this seemingly new experience after childbirth.

Keep reading for a list of the most powerful documentaries to watch with your kiddos during your next movie night.
Is It Too Soon to Have Parenting Regrets?
As a parent of two young kids, people always say to me, "Enjoy them! They grow up so fast." And to be honest, I usually want to kick those people in their well-intentioned shins. While the message seems like an innocent enough "stop and smell the roses" thing, I perceive it to be more of a "you're a terrible parent" thing. And if you like to go deep subtext like me: "I'm a better parent than you." But despite my inherent defensiveness, I know that those people are right - childhood does go by fast.
One thing I wasn't expecting in the early and fast years of my kids' childhoods was having regrets. I figured I would have bad days like every parent does, but I didn't see those big, heartbreaking regrets creeping into their first decade on earth. Boy, was I wrong. I have so many parenting regrets, and my kids are only 6 and 8.
Things I Whisper to My Daughter
I don't want to keep missing the fullness of these childhood experiences because of my eagerness to "just get through it."
I regret not being more present. There were way too many days when I was caught up in being tired and stressed that I didn't soak up those simple moments that are now becoming more rare. Instead of celebrating certain milestones, I breathed a sigh of relief that my kids finally got there. You'd never think you'd miss a saggy diaper . . . until you're dealing with dirty underwear. And when you have a kid who descends into a screaming fit when you try to help with the removal of a loose tooth, you can forget how adorably innocent it is.
It won't be too long before these small problems are replaced by bigger, more complex issues that can't be consoled by a hug from Mom or a visit from the Tooth Fairy. I don't want to keep missing the fullness of these childhood experiences because of my eagerness to "just get through it." I am only six and eight years in, and I already wish I would have paused more.
But there's also a different side to this coin that I'm not afraid to admit: sometimes you want and need time to go faster. I can't think of one mother who misses trying to take care of her kids when she's battling a cold of her own. I can't think of one parent who hasn't been relieved to drop off a kid at day care when the kid in question is acting like a grade-A punk. It's a balancing act that I haven't gotten totally right so far, but it's OK to want both sides. The days are long and the years are short.
What I keep trying to tell myself is that I'm allowed to celebrate the end-of-school break but dread the day they don't want to come home for the weekend from college. I can wish for a time machine when they're having a meltdown but want the hugs that follow to last forever. My regrets so far have taught me there's a difference between survival and blinders. It's being able to see that in the thick of the moment, that's the challenge.
If you have young ones, don't be like me, looking at old photos and wondering where the time went, where my babies went, and wishing for the ability to go back, just for one day. Be there, even when it's pukey, loud, and exhausting. It's hard. Super hard. But it's a fight worth fighting, and I'm ready for the next decade of challenges.

15 Times Princess Diana Was Just a Regular Mom
Princess Diana has been deeply loved and idolized by people all over the world for decades, both when she was alive and in the years after her death. What's hard to remember, however - amid the glamorous balls, family scandals, and sparkly tiaras - is that, more than anything else, Diana was just a regular mom. It's obvious from her rare interviews and frequent public outings that she adored sons Prince Harry and Prince William and loved doing simple, run-of-the-mill things with them. She was also fiercely protective of their privacy. Diana's daughter-in-law, Kate Middleton, has now followed her example with Prince George and Princess Charlotte. To prove the iconic royal was just like you when it came to her kiddos, keep reading for 15 moments she was a relatable mom . . . you know, minus the literal crown.
Katy Perry Kissed This 19-Year-Old American Idol Contestant, and People Have a Lot of Feelings
Katy Perry shared a quick kiss with a 19-year-old contestant on a recent episode of American Idol, and it has a lot of people talking. Benjamin Glaze auditioned in front of the three judges, and after chatting about the store where he works and the "cute girls" who come by, Luke Bryan joked, "Have you kissed a girl and liked it?" Benjamin replied, "No, I've never been in a relationship."
In true reality-TV fashion, Katy then urged the teen to come forward and put on a bit of a show. She motioned for him to give her a kiss on the cheek, and he did, blushing a little. "You didn't even make the smush sound!" Katy laughed. The teen then said, "Let me start over," and when he went to kiss her cheek, she turned her face and pecked him on the lips. American Idol Instagrammed the moment and captioned the photo, "He kissed @katyperry and he liked it."
The exchange has gotten mixed reactions from viewers, with some calling it a sweet and funny smooch, and others calling Katy out for being too aggressive and robbing Benjamin of his first kiss. One Instagram comment reads, "Imagine a 34-year-old male judge doing that to a 19-year-old female contestant," and another says, "It's kind of cute." Watch the clip for yourself above and decide how you feel.

What Happened to This Dog on a United Airlines Flight Will Sicken Any Pet Owner
We apologize in advance for this tragic bit of news, because there's truly no bright side to the situation - only a devastating warning for pet owners who travel with their fur-babies. On March 12, a passenger's dog died after she was instructed by a United Airlines crew member to stow its carrier in an overhead storage bin for a flight from Houston, TX to New York.
According to 30-year-old Maggie Gremminger, a witness who traveled on the same flight, the dog owner was traveling with a young girl and an infant, and had stowed her French bulldog in a TSA-approved dog carrier. When a flight attendant took issue with the way the carrier was stowed under the seat in front of the passenger, Gremminger tells People that the crew member compelled the passenger to stow the carrier in an overhead bin for the duration of the flight: "After the flight attendant asked her to move it above, the woman adamantly refused, communicating her dog was in the bag. There was some back and forth before finally the flight attendant convinced her to move the carrier to the bin above."
I just flew into LGA and witnessed a United flight attendant instruct a passenger to put her dog bag in the overhead bin. It was clearly a dog and while the customer was adamant about leaving it under the seat, the attendant pushed her to do so. (1)
- MaggieGremminger (@MaggieGrem) March 13, 2018
Myself and a fellow passenger felt like that was NOT a thing. I am not a flight attendant tho. Maybe they have air ventilation in there that I didn't know about. I tried googling rules about pets on board but didn't have ample time before takeout. (2)
- MaggieGremminger (@MaggieGrem) March 13, 2018
For takeoff and over the following 30 minutes, stunned passengers reportedly listened to the bulldog bark and whine from within the overhead bin. After that, it went quiet. By the time passengers were able to disembark from the aircraft, the pet owner discovered that her dog had died in its carrier during the flight, and collapsed into the aisle with its body cradled in her arms. Both the passenger and her daughter cried over their dead pet while a stranger held the newborn, recalls Gremminger, and the flight's crew reacted with shock.
At the end of the flight, the woman found her dog, deceased. She sat in the airplane aisle on the floor crying, and all of surrounding passengers were utterly stunned. (3)
- MaggieGremminger (@MaggieGrem) March 13, 2018
I am disgusted and traumatized. Pets are family. How could a trained flight attendant instruct a passenger to place her dog in that bin. It was her job to understand the plane and it's rules/limitations. (4)
- MaggieGremminger (@MaggieGrem) March 13, 2018
Following the flight, Gremminger tweeted a heartbreaking photo of the distressed mom and her kids in the LaGuardia airport terminal. Next to the crying woman and her baby's stroller is a soft-sided dog carrier; the type the United's pet policy allows flight passengers to carry on for $125 a pop.
Despite the passenger's insistence that a dog was inside (and the barking that followed), Gremminger tells People that the flight attendant who demanded the carrier be moved into the overhead bin claimed that she hadn't realized it contained a live pet. United Airlines issued an identical statement to People, Time, and The Points Guy, taking full responsibility for the dog's death:
This was a tragic accident that should never have occurred, as pets should never be placed in the overhead bin. We assume full responsibility for this tragedy and express our deepest condolences to the family and are committed to supporting them. We are thoroughly investigating what occurred to prevent this from ever happening again.
While nothing can ease the pain of losing a beloved family member, especially in such an unprecedented way as this, United Airlines is supposedly working to support the passenger and her family. But coming from the airline with the worst track record for pet deaths in recent years . . . is it too little, too late? If you plan to fly with furry members of your family anytime soon, be sure to educate yourself on the airline's pet policy and be willing to stand your ground about the rules - it could save a pet's life.
Things I Whisper to My Daughter
My dearest girl,
When I first learned that I was pregnant with you, many people told me how hard it is to raise a child in the current climate. I don't disagree with them. You're not my only child, but you are my only girl, which put a bit of pressure on me to really get it right.
The second I found out about you, I started to whisper things to you - things I knew you wouldn't understand then, things you still might not understand now. I whisper them to you because I want you to know that you can accomplish anything, no matter who tries to stand in your way. I whisper them to you because I know one day, after years of all my whispering, these thoughts will be ingrained in your brain as truth.
"You are strong."
When I was pregnant with you, your daddy and I were a newly married Army couple living in Alaska, and I felt lost amid a sea of strangers. I would marvel as you moved in my belly, and I would whisper, "You are strong." And the day you were born, we could instantly tell you were just that. You would (and still do) set your mind to things and always follow through. We revel in your strength.
"Yes, girl!"
Did you know that this started as a whisper? It happened the first time you sat up, and then again for each milestone after that. Now that you're a little older, I shout "YES, GIRL!" at an embarrassingly loud volume every time you do something at a gymnastics meet. I know it makes you cringe, but I want it to be something you hear in your thoughts as you get older. In your adult life, you will hear "No" far too often. That's just the way it goes. But at home, in our nest, you will hear as much "Yes, girl" encouragement as we can possibly provide.
"Mr. and Mrs. Dursley, of number four Privet Drive, were proud to say they were perfectly normal, thank you very much."
Harry Potter has played such a huge role in the upbringing of you and your baby brothers. You, my girl, were the first to be treated to the entire series - I read them out loud to you as I rocked you in your glider and you drank a bottle. You would be drowsy but attentive as Hermione bossed those boys around and showed them what brains look like. I'd whisper in your ear that girls can be just as smart, and sometimes much smarter, than boys. I'd tell you, and still tell you, that you're just like Hermione.
"Take a deep breath."
In kindergarten, you started to realize that things are hard. School was hard, making and keeping friends was hard, and gymnastics was hard. There were many days when you arrived home and promptly burst into tears. I would hold you and whisper, "Take a deep breath." I never told you to stop crying, and I still never tell you not to cry, because you can! I feel so much pride when I see you take a deep breath and try something new. I'm also so proud of you for teaching this to your baby brothers. I have seen you calm two fussy babies by whispering sweetly to them to take deep breaths. They are so lucky to have you.
"Be kind, and ignore them."
Something girls with sisters learn early on is that girls can be jealous and mean when they want to be. I could tell you were shocked by other little girls when you arrived in the world of competitive gymnastics. And when you were in first grade, a few older girls told you your eyes were "poop-colored." I had never been so mad, but I told you to ignore them and to keep being kind. Don't let the haters bring you down.
"I love you."
I never knew I could love someone so much until you existed. When you were little and just wanted to be held, I would whisper, "I love you, little girl," over and over again. I tell you "I love you" as many times as I can during the day. I whisper it to you before you go to school, when you come home, when you leave for gymnastics, and when I check on you before I go to sleep. I also whisper it when you're not even near me. I just put it out into the universe and hope it finds its way to your heart.
These things I whisper will probably start to embarrass you in the next couple years, the years when being seen with Mom isn't the coolest thing in the world. But I promise to whisper them until I can't anymore, because even when you don't want to hear them, I still must tell you.
Love Always,
Mom
The 10 Best Places to Go For Moms Who Want to Vacation All by Themselves
I was kayaking around Anacapa Island off the coast of Ventura, CA. The setting was stunning, but I was more focused on what - or rather, who - wasn't there: my 2-year-old daughter, Lucy, who was over 3,000 miles away in New Jersey with her babysitter. I felt guilty when I initially decided to go on the trip, but there was no way I could say no. I had always wanted to visit, and while the islands are family friendly, I knew Lucy wouldn't be up for things like hiking or kayaking. Besides, I didn't want to take the trip for her. I wanted to take the trip for myself.
I'm a single mom, and I don't have family nearby. That meant I needed to hire a babysitter for three days. I went back and forth about going a ridiculous number of times, but as I sat on the water, the waves lapping at my kayak, I was so thankful. Sure, I missed Lucy, but I hadn't realized how much I had missed myself. I hadn't kayaked since well before she was born, even though I used to lead kayak expeditions when I was in college. I had missed allowing my thoughts to unfold without interruption. I had missed letting myself set the schedule.
When I came back, I felt happy to see Lucy and happy in my own skin. I felt more energized, more relaxed, and absolutely certain that a solo mom trip isn't bad - it's wonderful. To be totally honestly, I think that alone time made me a better parent. It made me more aware of my own needs, more appreciative of the bond Lucy and I have, and thankful that the "old" me is still there. And I can't wait to plan another trip, so if you're also in need of a little getaway, keep reading for 10 of the best places you can travel to - all by yourself.

Sara Went From a Size 12 to a Size 2 by Doing 2 Incredibly Simple Things
Sara Rzepkowski, a 29-year-old from Chicago, suffered from significant weight gain as a result of her PCOS. A former size two, Sara was determined to keep her health in check and get her body back. Six months later, Sara lost nearly 50 pounds and went on to become a fitness instructor in order to help others achieve their goals as she had. For more on her story, keep reading.
Sara: Before
POPSUGAR: What was the moment or motive that made you decide to start your journey?
Sara Rzepkowski: In 2015, I hit rock bottom and felt very unhealthy. I was always sluggish and had become a shell of the person I used to be. Clothes weren't fitting me well, I was sick all the time, and I knew I wasn't making healthy food choices - I wasn't fueling my body the way it should be fueled.
I began taking classes at Shred415 in Chicago - a 60-minute instructor-led class that alternates between speed and endurance drills on treadmills, and strength and functional movement training on the floor - and I was instantly hooked. Reading about other people's weight-loss journeys made me want to work even harder at my own. All the various stories of adversity and triumph made me want to have my own victory!
PS: What's your favorite way to work out?
SR: I love HIIT workouts - anything that leaves me drenched in sweat is typically my favorite! I also really enjoy lifting weights, which is a new challenge for me.
PS: What's your weekly exercise schedule?
SR: I typically work out about five times a week, but it depends on the week. I try to strength train about three to five times weekly, targeting different areas each day. I also incorporate HIIT workouts, like Shred415 classes, two to three times a week. Sometimes I'll mix things up with Spin classes, Pilates classes, or something completely different once a week just to shake things up and keep my body guessing!
Sara: After
PS: How do you keep workouts exciting?
SR: Shred415 classes are different every single day, so it's tough to get bored. You know the basic structure of the class, but the runs and floor workout are always different, which keeps me going back every week. I also think trying new workouts helps me stay excited about working out and also challenges new muscles. It's great to try something new that could be potentially really fun!
PS: How much weight have you lost?
SR: I have lost over 60 pounds. However, I am not sure on the exact number anymore as I stopped weighing myself! I started my journey at 200 pounds, size 12/14, and am now under 140 and a size 2/4.
PS: What was the first big difference, other than the number on the scale, that really made you feel proud and excited?
SR: I truly think it was the way I felt. It was like I had a new passion for life. I felt great, was ready to take things on, and felt confident in myself again. When you hear that physical changes are only half as big as mental changes, it's really true! It made me so happy to feel energized instead of sluggish, happy instead of "blah," and back to my old self again overall.
PS: How do you track your weight loss?
SR: I track weight loss now by inches and how my clothes fit. I'm not focused on losing weight anymore, but really gaining lean muscle and toning up.
Sara: Before
PS: What's a typical day of meals and snacks?
SR: For breakfast, my meal usually looks like: protein waffle or pancakes (add bacon, peanut butter with banana, sugar-free preserves, or syrup), egg whites with turkey bacon and avocado on the side, an omelet, oatmeal with protein powder, avocado toast, or peanut butter toast. Lunch is typically leftovers from dinner the night before or a nice big salad with chicken or ground turkey and a lot of veggies.
Dinner varies, but some of my favorite meals are: sausage and veggies, shrimp stir-fry, salmon and asparagus, ground turkey lettuce wrap tacos, chicken and broccoli, etc. I love sweet potatoes as a side as well. Snacks depend on whether I am on the go or not. If I am traveling, I try to keep a protein bar (Quest and RX are my favorite) or protein shake (Premier Protein is my favorite) with me. Otherwise I love veggies and hummus, apples and peanut butter or almond butter, almonds, rice cakes with peanut butter, Greek yogurt, or cottage cheese.
PS: Do you count anything other than calories? Why or why not?
SR: I don't weigh myself or count calories because I get very obsessive with it, which I don't think is healthy. I think as long as I am healthy, feeling good, fueling my body with healthy foods, and exercising, that is what is most important. I have a general ballpark of caloric intake in my mind, but I do not count calorie by calorie. I do think tracking macros is great for the right person and the right reasons.
PS: What's the range of calories you eat per day?
SR: About 1,600 to 2,000. Since I don't actually track, this is an estimate.
Sara: After
PS: What are the healthy staples that are always in your fridge?
SR: I love Premier Protein shakes, honey crisp apples with peanut butter, Greek yogurt, cooked ground turkey, a huge jug of salsa (I put this on everything), broccoli, and hard-boiled eggs (prepackaged and prepeeled from Costco).
PS: How do you strategize when you eat meals out?
SR: I typically look at a menu before I go out to eat so I am familiar with what they offer. I try to order dressings on the side or stick with seafood, chicken, and/or grilled veggies. There are times that I don't really strategize at all, as I think it's important to give your body what it needs. If it is craving a brownie, enjoy the brownie! I think this makes your weight-loss journey a happy experience, rather than one where you feel deprived. I have definitely cut back on going out to eat all the time because I truly enjoy cooking and making fresh food. However, I still love exploring new restaurants, trying new foods, and enjoying the social time with friends and family.
PS: What advice do you have for anyone starting out on a weight-loss journey?
SR: It really is a journey - time and consistency will always pay off even if you don't see the results right away. It's so important to take small steps and make small changes for long-term results. Start to swap out less healthy foods for healthier ones, start small by walking 10 to 15 minutes every day, and add on from there. Have a support system around you, and enjoy and trust the process.
Set small goals for yourself and change them as you go. Most importantly: never give up or stop believing in yourself! Change, both mental and physical, is coming!

Sort Your Sniffles: Allergy Symptoms vs. Cold Symptoms
For years, as the leaves began to change color, I would come down with a cold. A cold that never went away. I was plagued by a runny nose, an itchy throat, and watery eyes for at least a couple of months every Fall. Eventually, I realized these symptoms weren't caused by a virus at all; they were all caused by allergies. Darn those weeds that bloom in the Fall and the weird molds growing on rotting leaves.
The good news: sorting out my symptoms meant I could actually treat them correctly. If you've been sniffling for days, take a look at this list to see you're suffering from a cold or allergies.
Related: Why You Have a Nagging Night-Time Cough
Itchy nose: Although allergies and colds both produce a runny nose and congestion, allergies create the uncomfortable and persistent itchy nose. The itch generally occurs in the back of the nose and is difficult to "scratch." Those suffering from nasal pruritus (the fanciest way in the world to say "itchy nose") often scrunch up their faces, like a bunny, to try to alleviate the discomfort.
The sneeze: Sneezing frequently, and sometimes quietly, is common with allergies. Allergy sneezes are an attempt to remove allergens from the nose. Sneezes from colds tend to be loud, deep, and infrequent and are attempts to clear bronchial congestion in the lungs.
Runny eyes: While eyes might occasionally water with a cold, they can run profusely with allergies.
Mucus color: The color of mucus your runny nose creates actually factors heavily into this discussion. Mucus, aka snot, is generally clear with allergies, whereas with a cold it tends to have a color - yellow to green - which indicates infection. Sometimes pays to look at your tissue, just saying.
Cough: Coughing is most often associated with colds. An allergy might cause occasional coughing due to postnasal drip aggravating the back of the throat.
Dark circles under the eyes: This symptom is sometimes referred to poetically as the "allergy shiner." These "shiners" are caused by the inability of veins in the area to drain due to chronic nasal congestion. It is like a traffic jam in the area under your eyes. Common colds generally don't leave you looking like you got sucker punched in the eye.
If you do have think you have allergies, it's maybe best to leave the weeding and raking to someone else. If you think you have a cold, read up on foods to eat when you're sick; hopefully these foods will help you feel better soon.
Find Relief From Springtime Allergies With These Natural Remedies
You wish you were psyched by this warmer Spring weather, but your itchy eyes and stuffy head make it impossible to enjoy. It's so cruel - you might as well buy stock in Kleenex because your never-ending runny nose keeps it in business. Of course, you can pop pills or use nasal sprays, but the not-so-fun side effects that include drowsiness, foggy head, and dry mouth make you want to throw them out the window (and quickly close it so pollen doesn't get inside!). But you can get relief without relying on a prescription. Here are some natural ways to relieve all your allergy symptoms.
Itchy Eyes
For contact lens wearers, you'll want to remove them and sport your glasses instead as your lenses can trap allergens in your eyes, making the itch and redness even worse. Run a washcloth under cold water, and apply that to your eyes to cool the burning sensation. Washing the eyes out with over-the-counter saline can also offer a world of difference.
Stuffiness and Runny Nose
Becoming as popular as brushing your teeth (and recommended by ear, nose, and throat doctors), nasal irrigation is an effective way to flush allergens from your nose and sinuses to relieve congestion and that constantly dripping nose. Buy a neti poti or this nifty bottle. Fill it with a warm salt and distilled or purified water solution (tap water isn't recommended). Place it in one nostril, lean your head forward over a sink, and allow the solution to flow up and out the other nostril. It may sound painful, but if you do it correctly, you won't feel a thing. The heat soothes irritated sinuses, and the water lubricates as well as loosens up mucus and washes allergens away. Purchase saline spray to keep in your purse or gym bag for on-the-go relief.
Severe Congestion and Sinus Pressure
This may be one of the worst allergy symptoms because the pain can be so debilitating, you won't be able to work, drive, or sleep. Decongestants often dry up the mucus, making symptoms even worse, so try a hot compress instead. Run a washcloth under hot water, and apply it directly to your face. Gently run your fingertips along your sinuses (above and below the eyes) to manually loosen up thick mucus. Microwavable rice pillows work well too since they'll stay hotter longer. Put a few drops of eucalyptus oil below your nostrils, which can also help open up nasal passages. Another remedy is to do some heat-building cardio such as running, jumping rope, or a cardio class (indoor is best to avoid those treacherous allergens). Getting sweaty can help relieve blockages - just be sure to have a pack of tissues handy. Hot yoga is also beneficial because you'll not only get sweaty, but certain poses such as Headstand can also offer relief from persistent sinus pressure. Sipping hot beverages such as tea or broth can also give relief.
Congestion or Coughing at Night
Lying in bed is a trigger for some people, and the inability to breathe coupled with coughing attacks will make it downright impossible to get a good night's sleep. Always keep your bedroom window closed to keep pollen out, and invest in an air purifier with a HEPA filter to clean allergens out of the air. Sleeping with a humidifier on your nightstand will moisten the air, loosening mucus and preventing a dry throat that can cause coughing.
All Allergy Symptoms
If you suffer from every allergy symptom under the pollen-filled sky, a simple hot shower can help tremendously. Take a shower anytime you come in from being outside to wash pollen out of your hair and off your skin (and throw your clothes straight into the washing machine). The heat and steam break up congestion, but you can even put your face into the hot spray for quicker, more effective results. This is perfect to do if you suffer from postnasal drip at night. Eating honey made locally can also reduce allergy symptoms - it contains small amounts of the pollen found in your area, so your body can build up an immunity to it, which can make symptoms less severe.
You may not find relief from one of these remedies alone, but rather a combination can do the trick. If you hate relying on prescription allergy meds, it's definitely worth a shot!
If You Only Have 30 Minutes to Work Out, Follow This Formula From Jillian Michaels
You're busy; you don't have all day to spend at the gym, but you want to get in a good workout and you want to feel accomplished after you've wiped off the sweat. So what are you supposed to do if you only have 30 minutes to spare? Jillian Michaels, celebrity trainer and creator of the comprehensive app My Fitness by Jillian Michaels, is here to save the day.
We asked Jillian what the better choice is when you're short on time - cardio or strength training? Instead of choosing one or the other, Jillian told POPSUGAR you should do "resistance training that is done in circuits combined with HIIT intervals so you get little rest between exercises."
Here's the example Jillian gave us: "30 seconds of push-ups to 30 seconds of weighted squats to 30-second mountain climbers." You can choose any number of movements that you love doing and string them together for a killer workout, like burpees, shoulder presses, box jumps, or triceps dips. If you don't know where to start, here are a few workouts for you to choose from. They're under 30 minutes, and each of them alternate between strength-training exercises and cardio moves.

You're Probably Familiar With CBD, but Here's What You Need to Know About CBN
Among the hundreds of known cannabinoids out there, THC and CBD are two you're probably most familiar with. CBN (cannabinol), on the other hand, is a lesser-known compound that's been gaining attention within the industry for good reason. Just like its more popular siblings, CBN is an active compound found in the cannabis plant. But rather than getting you high, it produces a sedative effect (with non- to mildly psychoactive effects). While some of us may dislike how drowsy certain strains make us feel, CBN could be beneficial to those who have trouble sleeping.
On top of being nonaddictive, it's also much more powerful than prescription pills. According to a Steep Hill Lab article referenced in High Times, cannabinol has double the potency of a pharmaceutical like diazepam (better known as Valium). Just five milligrams of CBN is equivalent to the effects of 10 milligrams of diazepam.
Just five milligrams of CBN is equivalent to the effects of 10 milligrams of diazepam.
Great, where can we get some? Well, that's the interesting part. Fresh flower actually has minimal traces of CBN (usually one percent or less) - it's the process of oxidation that converts THC into CBN. In other words, that weed that you got a couple months ago is now aged with cannabinol. If you've ever noticed that you wake up feeling groggy after smoking stale weed the night before, that's exactly why. But unlike wine or cheese, aging doesn't necessarily improve the quality of your bud, unless done properly by controlling temperature and environmental factors. In fact, I often get headaches as a result of smoking old flower. What you want is a concentrated form of CBN, which is increasingly being incorporated into edibles and other products.
According to Amanda Jones, cofounder of cannabis-infused Kikoko teas, "CBN is a much harder cannabinoid to extract" because it's not present in large quantities. Though difficult, it's not entirely impossible to isolate. Jones and her team of scientists have created a herbal blend called Tranquili-Tea containing three milligrams of THC and five milligrams of CBN. Together, CBN and THC are said to produce an "entourage effect," according to Jones, which makes both compounds complement one another.
Although the number of studies surrounding CBN are currently lacking, existing research has shown evidence of therapeutic effects in addition to sleepiness. Herb has sited research that's shown CBN to act as an antibiotic, to increase appetite, to have anti-inflammatory properties, and more. As we wait for more cannabis companies to catch on to this cannabinoid, keep an eye out for products with high amounts of CBN.

19 Quick Keto Recipe Ideas to Whip Out When Life's Just Too Damn Busy
We're embracing healthy forms of fat more than ever (Yeah, avocados! Bring on the almond butter!), and now, more people are starting keto (or ketogenic) diets. Following a keto diet means you eat meals that are high in fat and low in carbohydrates with some protein in there, too. Because your body normally runs on glucose (or sugar) as fuel, limiting your intake of carbs forces your body to burn fat for energy, a process that produces ketones in your body, which is known as ketosis. Contrary to popular belief, this diet isn't just "butter and bacon," as one clinical nutritionist told POPSUGAR, but emphasizes vegetables and greens, too.
If you're curious about how to get started or are already a keto pro, you probably don't want to spend a ton of time in the kitchen crafting recipes. Luckily, the diet lends itself to fast, simple, and easy meals. Some take less than 10 minutes to create. Keep reading for some ideas!

Let's Settle the Great Soy Debate - Is the Bean Actually Bad For You?
Plant-based diets and commitments like Meatless Mondays are on the rise, and for good reason. In addition to imparting several health benefits such as better heart health and clearer skin, reducing consumption of meat, and thereby lessening greenhouse gas emissions, can benefit the environment as well.
When reducing our intake of meat products, we often turn to soy, which comes in the forms of tofu, tempeh, edamame, miso, natto, burgers, and other products. Soy is considered to be a great plant protein source, rich in vitamins and minerals, and an excellent source of essential amino acids.
However, many avoid incorporating soy into their diets. One of the reasons could be that, due to high levels of isoflavones, soy products may raise levels of estrogen in your body when consumed. A few studies have also been conducted that may link soy to cancer growth, poor semen quality, and lower testosterone levels in men.
So should we incorporate soy into our diets or stay away from it? We spoke with a few experts to find out.
First of all, not all forms of soy are created equal. According to Carolyn Mitchell, RDN, CNSC, a registered dietitian at Sharp Coronado Hospital, "Processed forms of soy, such as soy burgers, soy energy bars, and the highly processed frankensoy products, are not good choices because the processing strips away the nutrients. Additionally, foods like these are likely to have added sugars, fats, and refined flours."
"Processed soy contains phytoestrogens that mimic the body's natural estrogen, which leads to hormone imbalance in both men and women," according to certified holistic health coach and cofounder of Raw Generation, Jessica Rosen.
Emily Bartlett, holistic health expert with a degree in Chinese medicine, and cofounder of Real Plans, a meal-planning app that serves people with dietary restrictions, tells POPSUGAR that "the levels of phytoestrogen in soy are off the charts." Additionally, "much of the soy produced in the US today has been genetically modified in laboratories [and] has been found to get in the way of digestion and increase the risk for allergy."
Foods that are genetically modified "can be dangerous when consumed because they kill off good bacteria in the gut and damage the digestive system," according to registered dietitian and clinical nutritionist Nia Rennix.
Both Bartlett and Rennix agree that fermented soy is beneficial, with Rennix adding, "Fermenting a food increases the probiotics. Soy [food] like natto is extremely healthy because it is fermented and high in vitamin K2."
In addition to probiotics and vitamin K2, Melissa Halas-Liang, MA RDN CDE, media representative for the California Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (CAND), tells POPSUGAR, "Soy contains fiber, potassium, and magnesium, [which are] all important for heart health. Plus, magnesium is a mineral that is often low in the American diet and can play a role in preventing type 2 diabetes."
Although more research needs to be done on whether or not soy is good for us, it's important to read your labels and choose fermented, non-GMO, or organic whole-food sources of soy in moderation if you choose to incorporate it into your diet.

These Photos of a Frozen Niagara Falls Are Absolutely Stunning
Even as Winter approaches its official end on March 20, frigid weather continues to pummel North America. When the East Coast was slammed by a "bomb cyclone" weather phenomenon in the first week of January, it brought snow, ice, and strong winds to the East Coast and Canada.
The weather left Niagara Falls, which lie both in upstate New York and in Canada, looking like a Winter wonderland. The temperatures dove low enough to freeze running water, causing parts of the falls to appear stuck in midair. The stunning photos prove that no matter what time of year it is, this natural wonder is completely beautiful. Read on to see the frozen falls at their finest.

7 Badass Women Who Broke Major Travel Barriers
It's great to see so many women seeing the world and sharing their adventures with us on social media, blogs, or vlogs. Yet it wasn't always easy for women to travel on their own terms or beyond certain borders. However, there are female trailblazers who made significant strides within their time, setting records and pushing past boundaries. Let's hear it for these incredible ladies who set forth on new and unexpected journeys.
13 Female Travel Bloggers of Color You Should Be Following in 2018
12 Things That Wouldn't Exist Without Women
1. Nellie Bly
Born Elizabeth Cochran, this pseudonym-using investigative journalist went on an awfully big adventure. In 1889, inspired by Jules Vernes's book Around the World in Eighty Days, Nellie Bly turned this work of fiction into a real trip that would beat the book's record. As an assignment for the New York World, Nellie did it in 72 days, traveling by train and ship. Her route took her from England to France to the Suez Canal and to Singapore, Hong Kong, and Japan. She also had some road competition from another female reporter named Elizabeth Bisland from a New York newspaper called Cosmopolitan. Nonetheless, Bly won and published a book about her adventure a year later.
2. Bessie Coleman
This American aviator took to the skies, becoming the first African-American woman to earn a pilot's license. Coleman developed an interest in flying at an early age but would not be admitted to flight schools in the United States. But she didn't let this setback stop her. She saved her money and went to France, where she became a licensed pilot from Ecole d'Aviation des Freres Caudron et Le Crotoy in June of 1921. Back in the States, Coleman had trouble finding work and went back to Europe to get training in acrobatic movements in the air. When she came back to America, Coleman worked as air show pilot and specialized in "barnstorming" stunt flying and parachuting. Sadly, she died in a plane crash in on April 30, 1926, when it spun out of control.
3. Amelia Earhart
While her name has become legendary, this aviator accomplished two major strides: she was the first woman to fly across the Atlantic and the first person to traverse the Atlantic and the Pacific. In 1937, she decided to go after what would become her final pursuit: to be the first woman to fly around the world. Sadly, toward the end of her route, her plane's radio transmissions became lost; poor weather conditions and inaccurate maps also impacted the flight. A massive sea and air search and rescue attempt was immediately carried out by the United States government, but neither Earhart nor her navigator were found. There have been many theories but no solid proof of what happened.
4. Emma Gatewood
Often known as "Grandma Gatewood," this woman and grandmother became the first female to hike the Appalachian Trail when she was 67 years old. Her journey is also one of survival. Her husband abused her severely throughout their marriage, so much that she suffered broken ribs and other injuries; she obtained a divorce in 1940. Inspired by a National Geographic article about the Appalachian Trail, Gatewood told her family she was going for her walk (but instead left town with a change of clothes and a small amount of money). She started this solo trek in 1955; by that September, she reached Maine's Mount Katahdin. Her accomplishment also led to something important: preserving the Appalachian Trail. She hiked the AT again in 1960 and then a third time in 1963.
5. Junko Tabei
Junko Tabei's name might not come first to mind for mountain climbing, but this Japanese woman has achieved an incredible feat. She's been credited as the first female to summit Mount Everest in 1975 and ascend all Seven Summits (climbing the highest mountains on all seven continents). After graduating college, she started a ladies' climbing club that would include a team that would attempt to climb Everest and obtained fundraising from sponsors. After a successful wait to receive a climbing permit, this all-female group (including Tabei) set off in the spring of 1975. They were almost killed by an avalanche but were rescued by their sherpas (local experienced climbers). Despite having to stop for a few days, Junko and her sherpa would eventually reach the summit on May 16, 1975.
6. Libby Riddles
This American dog musher turned into an overnight celebrity when she became the first woman to win the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race in 1985. During that Iditarod, weather conditions were so bad that they caused the race to be interrupted at various periods. It was so much that the leading mushers decided to pull over at a village checkpoint. Instead, Riddles is said to have carried on along a trail that was pretty iffy. She kept her lead in the race and finished in 18 days, 20 minutes, and 17 seconds. She has written books about her adventures and now is a public speaker and raises and trains sled dogs.
7. Mae Jemison
This American engineer and medical physician has another title on her résumé - a NASA astronaut. After completing medical school and having a brief general practice, Jemison went to serve in the Peace Corps as a medical officer in West Africa from 1983 to 1985. Two years later, NASA selected her to join the astronaut corps. During that time, Jemison set forth on a mission that made her the first African-American woman to travel in space. On Sept. 12, 1992, she went into orbit on board the Space Shuttle Endeavor. Having left NASA the following year, Jemison is currently the principal of the 100 Year Starship, an organization aiming to make space travel beyond our solar system a possibility.
You Can Stay in the Real-Life House From Steel Magnolias, So Grab Your Girlfriends!
Posted by Vicente Luigi Moreno on Saturday, December 2, 2017
It's been nearly three decades since Steel Magnolias was released, and yet the iconic film - inspired by a play of the same name - is still our de facto manual on life, loss, and friendship. How can it not be with lines like, "If you don't have anything nice to say about anybody, come sit by me!"? As it turns out, fans can actually stay in the real-life home featured in the film.
As Southern Living pointed out, the home where M'Lynn and Drum Eatenton live in Steel Magnolias is now a bed and breakfast open for business. Located in Natchitoches, LA - about four hours outside of New Orleans - the Steel Magnolia House features six bedrooms, a lush landscape, and a guesthouse on the property.
The interior no longer resembles the one portrayed in the film - nor is it swathed in "blush and bashful" - and it now has a more antique aesthetic. As a nice added touch, however, each guest room is named after a character in the film: Shelby, Clairee, Ouiser, Jackson, and Annelle. To book a room, simply call the number listed on the official Steel Magnolia House website. We sense a girls' trip in the making!
Game of Thrones Fans, You'll Want to Book the Night King Suite at This Ice Hotel ASAP
Of all the fantastical settings in Game of Thrones, one of the most appealing - and certainly the most hygge - is the Stark House dwelling, Winterfell. Equal parts icy and cozy (thanks to furs, roaring fires, and good company), Winterfell and its northern counterparts have always been out of our reach due to the limitations of reality vs. fiction; but now, a Finnish ice hotel is making it possible for guests to experience Winterfell, Castle Black, and icy abodes beyond the Wall. Lapland Hotels Snow Village will boast a Game of Thrones theme until it closes for the season on April 30 thanks to a partnership with HBO Nordic.
The show theme might mean you stay in a suite where a massive, sculpted White Walker watches over your bed at night, or perhaps Ghost will guard you while you sleep. Prices for the GOT "Snow Suites" range based on the number of guests, but it's definitely an experience you'll never forget! There are also two ice eateries inspired by the show: a restaurant and a bar. The bar has a massive, icy dragon - perhaps it's Viserion - serving as barback, while the restaurant looks like the inside of a castle with a giant dragon's eye peering inside.
To stay overnight at the hotel, all you need are warm, long-sleeved underwear and your personal effects. Everything else is provided for you - cozy sleeping bag and all! And there's so much more to do than sleep and drink at the Snow Village. Just a few of the available activities include:
- Ice sculpting classes
- Husky safaris
- Reindeer experiences
- Aurora borealis snowmobile excursions
Talk about a perfect snowy vacation! Can we make it to Finland before April ends? In the meantime, check out these cool (pun intended) photos of the ice hotel all done up in its GOT best!
