How All My "Failures" Paved the Way to Finding True Happiness
Image Source: Unsplash / Soragrit Wongsa
Like any 20-something living in New York City, I am acquainted with failure. Moreover, as a 20-something whose peers all happen to be seemingly well-accomplished and on the road to being the next Mark Zuckerberg, failure might as well be my best and only friend.
Amid the stress of my senior year of undergrad, I decided not to pursue a PhD in research psychology like I had planned since my senior year of high school. And because the startup hype was at its peak at the time of graduation, I followed my eager peers and dove into the exciting wave of tech. Except I belly-flopped on the way down and floundered as I watched my cohorts create companies, buy their first homes, make their first million, and travel the world on company money. On paper, I was just as educated and just as hard-working, but no matter what I did, I couldn't seem to reach their level of accomplishment. I jumped from one job to the next, and I could not seem to build the resilience against the constant sexism and racism in the industry. And believe me, I had heard it all.
I had been in meetings where I was told that I must be very quiet because I was Asian and a woman. Once, the CEO of a startup I worked for reprimanded me for not drinking enough with them and even expressed concern about my work ethic because I did not always want to hang out outside of work hours. Another time, a manager "replied all" to an email chain with data that I had previously analyzed and commented his numbers were the right ones - my numbers were identical to his.
Even as I found fellow women of color in tech and sat through years of therapy, I found that my misery didn't particularly love company; it only made it worse. Every little microaggression got to me. Mind you, I never showed that at work (heaven forbid we have another hysterical woman crying at work!). In fact, I did everything in my power to "lean in" and suppress everything I was feeling. Even as other women would openly weep at my desk, I found myself coldly saying to them, "C'mon. Get it together." The only way I felt I could survive in this space was to put my head down, work hard, and hopefully disappear altogether.
I did not have a backup plan, I did not have any other source of income, but I'd had enough.
There was something insidious and alluring about the safety of it. And even as my therapist coaxed and prodded and as my well-meaning friends insisted that I just had not found the right company yet, I sank into my comfortable depression.
That is, until six months ago, when my body could no longer take it.
Earlier that day, I sought refuge in Kinokuniya's second-floor cafe and quietly cried while overlooking Bryant Park during my lunch break. At this point, it had become my daily ritual to cry over a bowl of unagi rice. At the end of the day, my manager called me in to a one-on-one meeting, during which he promptly accused me of not "caring" about a project I had worked on for months because I had made the call to pause testing data over the weekends. We had found that on weekends the data was consistently unusable. The thing is, he was present in the meeting when I made the call, and he had agreed to it along with another male colleague. But now, in this one-on-one, he started claiming that the male colleague also agreed with him (I later found that this was completely false).
As he went on and on, I felt my entire body shaking with anger and a wave of nausea wash over me. I could not believe this was happening.
"How could you say this to me?" I snapped. He looked astounded. "Not caring about this project? Are you serious right now?"
He asked me to calm down and not to get hysterical. I immediately stopped speaking because I thought if I opened my mouth, I would throw up.
I went back to my desk, packed my things, and left for the day. The next morning, I came in early, printed out my resignation letter, and left it on my manager's desk (he had the general habit of arriving in the office around noon). I did not have a backup plan, I did not have any other source of income, but I'd had enough. During my exit interview, with HR present, I told them everything that had happened, and they just stared back at me with complacent and wry smiles that did not reach their eyes. Did I believe they were going to take my feedback seriously? Absolutely not. They had not taken any of the feedback previous women had left them either. But at this point, it did not matter.

As I walked out of the office for the last time, I felt an unfamiliar and overwhelming feeling: joy. For the first time in years, I was taking back control of my life. To others, it may have looked like an irresponsible, irrational, and - dare I say - emotional decision, but it was the best decision I had made in years. Using the years of experience and work ethic I had under my belt, I promptly started freelancing and working for myself. Although freelance life definitely isn't all sunshine and rainbows, it has empowered me to make my own decisions and finally follow my bliss. And just because my road to happiness or success did not follow a linear road does not mean I am lost or going in the wrong direction.

This Cooking Hack Will Forever Change the Way You Make Spaghetti
If you're anything like me, cooking spaghetti involves completely guessing the proper amount for a serving. I'll stand at the pot of boiling water and grab a handful (. . . plus a little more for good measure) and think to myself, "That looks right; we'll find out!" But now that I've discovered this ingenious hack, I'll never go back to my uncertain ways.
The easiest way to measure out a perfect single serving of spaghetti is to use the hole in the center of your spaghetti spoon. Just take a handful of spaghetti and see if it fits, filling in the extra space as needed, until the bundle fits tightly in the space. And voilà, you've got a perfect amount just for you. Of course, if you're cooking more than one serving, just repeat the process as needed.
Who knew that hollow center served such a purpose?! Since you'll probably already be using that spoon to grab your spaghetti noodles, it's even more convenient that you can measure with it, too. Making a solo spaghetti dinner has never been easier.
The Secret (and Incredible!) Ways Your Favorite Disney Pixar Rides Are Made
Forget the Haunted Mansion's Hatbox Ghost or navigating the pitch-black corners of Indiana Jones Adventure, because there is perhaps no place more shrouded in mystery than Walt Disney Imagineering. It's here, in a collection of buildings 35 miles away from Disneyland Park, where every theme park attraction and experience is imagined, crafted, and taken for a virtual test drive before it ultimately hits our Fastpass reservations and Instagram feeds.
The partnership between Walt Disney Imagineering and Pixar Animation Studios, however, compounds the creativity and difficulty in the unique challenge of bringing beloved source material, like a full-size Bing Bong and audio-animatronic Luxo Jr. lamp, to life. Twenty years since their first collaboration on It's Tough To Be a Bug! at Disney's Animal Kingdom, nearly every one of Pixar's 19 films appear in Disney parks worldwide, a partnership that will reach new alien macaron-fueled heights when Pixar Fest and Pixar Pier at Disneyland Resort and Toy Story Land at Walt Disney World debut in Spring and Summer 2018. Busy finalizing details for the seven food locations, four attractions, three shops, two lands, and new fireworks show themed to Pixar's cinematic library en route to the parks, Pixar and Disney opened the doors to the hallowed halls of Walt Disney Imagineering, showing us the artistic processes, creative struggles, and the very secret room where it all gets done.
The worlds within Pixar films are so robust and realistic that you can't help but want to jump into them - and it's some people's literal job to make that happen. Pixar employs a 10-person theme park team (dream career alert!) at their headquarters in Emeryville, which taps resources from the studio, bringing in the actual animators, lighting, and effects specialists from movies like Cars and The Incredibles to work on these physical projects as a real-life continuation of what they've created for films. In further collaboration with designers, engineers, and architects at Walt Disney Imagineering, or WDI, the expanded team works together to solve larger-scale difficulties of turning cinematic locations like Gusteau's kitchen or Flo's V8 Café into livable spaces.
Developing Pixar-themed attractions requires that particular combination of balancing pre-established stories with physical developments; if Radiator Springs was tough to create within a movie, just imagine the challenge of replicating every building to scale - and then designing and deciding what's actually behind each door. With a goal of allowing guests to visit places they otherwise cannot go, Pixar and Walt Disney Imagineering's staffs creatively expand upon those universes we see so little of on camera, utilizing a kind of critical thinking that allows guests to know what it's like to ask personal questions in Turtle Talk With Crush, pass through Harryhausen's on Monsters, Inc. Mike and Sulley to the Rescue! or be pulled along by Tow Mater on Mater's Junkyard Jamboree, while retaining the full essence of the films.
There is perhaps no place more shrouded in mystery than Walt Disney Imagineering.
For Slinky Dog Dash, the forthcoming Toy Story-themed coaster coming to Walt Disney World, Imagineers had to think about small details, like incorporating the character's personality within a ride vehicle, as well as scope, creating a coaster track that provides movement and can be seen from throughout the entire land. To pull these kinds of logistical challenges off, WDI utilizes The Dish, an all-encompassing white room that, with 3D visualization, can solve any real-world problems from sight lines to layout before they actually exist.
By loading in a simulation of Toy Story Land, we were able to visualize what it's like to walk past the Alien Swirling Saucers queue or see details of Woody's Lunch Box up close and, in another digital model, experience The Incredicoaster and its new effects despite it still being under construction. It was nothing short of delightfully disorienting to pass Jack-Jack using his newfound superpowers and "ride" those familiar California Screamin' camelback humps without actually moving. (The multifaceted technology is also used to virtually tour spaces like hotel rooms and restaurant kitchens throughout the resorts.)
Even once projects are on course, the necessary details to make the spaces feel accurate to Pixar's films seem overwhelming to an outsider. To answer the question of how to make grass look large scale for Toy Story Land at Shanghai Disneyland, which is built to feel as though guests are the size of toys, Imagineers had to source 100-foot-tall bamboo from a conservatory in Portugal. Amidst the many oversize toys, checker pieces, and game boards strewn about Toy Story Land at Walt Disney World, they also calculated that Andy's massive footprint, which appears in the walkways, would be a size 240 if drawn to scale.
Though many recent Disney Parks projects see Imagineers tasked with reimagining things that already exist - a new entrance for Toy Story Mania! in Florida or new iterations of the souvenir shops, kiosks, and restaurants coming to Pixar Pier in California, for example - even as a Disney expert, I never quite realized how difficult it can be to pull off. Take Jessie's Critter Carousel, for instance. The Toy Story attraction's creation requires the full development process, whether or not mechanisms from the previous King Triton's Carousel are already in place. Because the adorable bug-eyed animals from Woody's Roundup had never been rendered in 3D, sculptors in the Walt Disney Imagineering model shop have spent weeks upon weeks hand-carving maquettes at 1:8 scale, which will be digitally scanned and later milled for creation of the carousel's seats.
At times, the ride creation process tends to mirror that of Pixar's own films. The Cars Land team revisited the Route 66 road trip Cars' filmmakers took prior to creating the theme park land at Disney California Adventure; Walt Disney Imagineers working on Pixar Pier traveled to seaside towns up and down California's coast to revisit the land's original inspiration. The difficulties in creating Pixar's virtual worlds are lengthy and well-documented - it normally takes five years for a film to be completed - but the timeline is nearly the same projects within the parks; Pixar Pier, in a rare instance, only has a matter of months. Still, the ideas and concepts were well underway before we even heard about them, and the detail-oriented nature of the collaborative team doesn't let much slip past, from the food and beverage development behind the Pixar Parfait to be sold at the Adorable Snowman ice cream kiosk to the Pixar art-themed Knick's Knacks shop, named in honor of the early Pixar short. (Jessie's Critter Carousel has been in the works for up to a year and still won't debut until 2019.)
When the land opens June 23, it'll not only feature franchises like The Incredibles and Inside Out that have not yet hit the parks in a permanent way, but be "ever-changing," so characters from forthcoming films will always have a home in the parks. That way, even if rides and attractions aren't in development with the WDI-Pixar team, there will always be something new and special to see.
Flowers? Nah . . . This Is Where You'll Find the Best FOOD at Epcot's Flower & Garden Fest!

The 1 Thing Chip Gaines Says You Must Do Before Painting Anything
Chip Gaines had been a successful contractor long before Fixer Upper shot him into superstardom, so he knows a few things about painting houses. We caught up with Chip at a KILZ Brand paint demonstration (he's a rep for the company), where he had one big piece of advice for anyone considering painting: always start with primer. Chip says starting with primer is like laying a strong foundation for your project; even if it takes a little extra time, it's worth it so that the rest of the project is set up right.
"A lot of people think primer is unnecessary and will only add time to their project, so they skip it. That's a huge mistake," Chip said. "If you're going to do a project right, priming is essential. It not only covers up unsightly marks but also ensures you have the perfect foundation to achieve your ideal finish." Chip emphasizes the color of your paint itself will actually be more accurate, apply better, and last longer when you use primer. And this isn't exclusive to walls. Furniture, cabinetry, and trim should all receive a coat of primer before paint, especially if you're going for a dramatic color change.
To emphasize his point, Chip shared a story from when he and Joanna were first married. He had purchased a wreck of a house for them to move into after they wed, thinking they could renovate it and make it their own. When they returned from their honeymoon, he carried Joanna over the threshold and into an embarrassing dump. The walls were dirty and stained, and the college kids who had lived there prior hadn't even bothered to clean their food out of the refrigerator when they moved. The electricity had been shut off since then, and the food had been rotting in the Texas Summer heat, so the entire house stank. It wasn't the romantic newlywed home he had hoped to start his marriage off in.
Disappointed but undeterred, Chip began cleaning up the property. After giving the walls a good wipe-down, he applied primer to them to hide the party stains and seal rotten food, stale smoke, and other bad odors in the wall. From there, Chip and Joanna added a beautiful color to the wall, ripped out the carpeting, and set out renovating the house into their first home. To this day, he swears by primer. "Nothing helps us hit the refresh button during renovation projects quite like a fresh coat of primer."

This Viral Video Shows the Ridiculous Way 4 Teens Removed a Rat From Their House
What should you do if you discover a rat in your house? Record it for social media, of course. At least that's what these four college students from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh thought to do once they came up with a "ridiculous" plan to get the pesky rodent out of their bathroom.
We came up with this ridiculous plan to get this rat out of our house and IT ACTUALLY WORKED!!!! BYE BITCH pic.twitter.com/c5qW76mzP8
- Jody Mackin (@jodeball4REALZ) February 17, 2017
In the seven-second clip uploaded by Twitter user Jody Mackin, the clever group of girls set up a blockade near the bathroom's exit using a mop bucket. Once the large rat came running out of the bathroom, one girl knocked it down a flight of steps using a mop. At landing, the rat attempted to make a getaway back into the house before another girl swiftly sent it flying out onto the street using a broom. Mackin's tweet now has more than 104,000 retweets and over 184,000 "likes" on Twitter at press time.
Many Twitter users shared their reactions to the insane video, with some empathizing with the rat:

This Optical Illusion Is Making Us Question Our Eyesight
A bizarre and maddening optical illusion recently went viral on Twitter and has left people (ourselves included) booking appointments with their optometrists. Twitter user Will Kerslake first shared the illusion on Sept. 11. The picture features a repeated gray pattern and 12 black dots strategically placed throughout the grid. If you look at the design, however, it's practically impossible to see all of the dots at once, as your eyes will only pick up a few at a time. Pretty frustrating, right? Try it for yourself below.
There are twelve black dots at the intersections in this image. Your brain won't let you see them all at once. pic.twitter.com/ig6P980LOT
- Will Kerslake (@wkerslake) September 11, 2016
The illusion is referred to as Ninio's extinction illusion, named after French scientist Jacques Ninio. This is how it works: the eye is stimulated by a few of the dots in clusters at a time and effectively ignores the rest. So if your eye is focusing on the top right corner, you'll see the dots and the rest of the image will appear to be homogeneous, like an uninterrupted continuation of the gray lines.
Naturally, the internet is freaking out. Look ahead for some choice reactions.
@wkerslake @GWillowWilson I can see two and I SWEAR I can see the others running away from me.
- Kate (@mscogsworthy) September 11, 2016
@wkerslake This is so cool. I had to make the pic bigger to see all 12...I could only see 4 at first but still not all at once! 😱😱😱😱
- WildBillWill™ (@JacksGapsRaps) September 12, 2016
@PJCavan @wkerslake @siracusa nah, I can see them as well but I've had a bottle of wine. Maybe that helps!

Getting Robbed at Gunpoint Was Apparently a Walk in the Park For This Jimmy John's Employee
Sometimes, life hands you a bad day and you need to just let it ride out. That's how one Jimmy John's employee seemingly approached a robbery at gunpoint as he stoically handed the gunman money from the register.
The robbery took place at a Jimmy John's in Kansas City, MO, on April 26 at 9:15 p.m. In a video uploaded to YouTube by the Kansas City Police Department, the suspect, wearing a blue hoodie, enters the store and orders an item. As the cashier tells him his total, the suspect pulls out a gun. The Jimmy John's employee then takes off his gloves, hands him all the money, and even tries to give him the drawer with all the change. You can watch the encounter ahead.
The video quickly went viral on the internet, with some people on Twitter noting that the gun looks like it was jammed and that's why the cashier was so chill. According to the Kansas City Police YouTube page, police have the suspect in custody and they wrote, "Investigation is continuing." We hope the cashier and anyone else working during the robbery are home safe and sincerely OK.
Kids Lead the Way at March For Our Lives: "We Need Change"
Christian, Julian, and Alexandra hit the streets at LA's March For Our Lives rally.
As I followed the crowd of March For Our Lives protesters down Broadway in downtown LA, I heard a small, persistent voice somewhere behind me. "Mom, say it! Hey, hey! Ho, ho! The NRA has got to go!" The brief moment seemed to perfectly capture the tone of the day. On March 24, more than 800 protests nationwide and globally drew kids and parents, students and teachers, grandparents and grandkids to join forces and demand gun reform. And despite the strong intergenerational turnout, it was clear that the youngest activists were in charge.
Four-year-old Ariel, decked out in a princess costume and tiara, carried a sign that read "NRA Don't Let Them Take My Life Away!"
The student-led protest movement that has risen up in the wake of the Parkland, FL, school shooting - and so many other school shootings like it - is invigorating a new generation of young activists. The LA march unsurprisingly drew lots of Hollywood star power, but kids remained at the forefront - even as celebs such as Amy Schumer, Connie Britton, and Kendall Jenner milled around. When actor Laura Dern took the stage with her 13-year-old daughter Jaya Harper, she took a supporting role, holding the microphone for the teen as she delivered an impassioned speech.
"Did you know," the middle-school-age Dern said, "that there are already stationery and roving metal detectors at most of the schools in Los Angeles? . . . I don't want to go to school wondering if I'll be safe, or wondering if children I don't even know will make it home."
Diana and Ariel Greer at the rally point
The LA march, coordinated with the team at Women's March LA, was largely spearheaded by high-school activists who saw to it that the majority of the speakers who took the stage were teens. But both kids and parents I spoke to along the march route said that, in this era, even the very youngest among us have an awareness - and fear - of gun violence. I met Diana Greer and her preschool-age daughter, Ariel, as we waited on a jam-packed corner of Spring Street for the march to begin. Four-year-old Ariel, decked out in a princess costume and tiara, carried a sign that read "NRA Don't Let Them Take My Life Away!"
"Her teacher had to talk to her about if someone brings a gun to her class," Greer told me. "She came home crying to me, saying, 'Mom, I'm scared.' So then I started explaining to her, and I told her about this march. I told her this march is to help with gun control, so she wanted to come. She understands what's happening. She sees it on the news constantly. She tells me, 'Mommy, someone else got shot.'"
Simone, 10, marched with her father, John Wooden.
While some of the smallest marchers clearly had some help generating their signs and slogans, older kids, like 10-year-old Simone - who marched with her father, John Wooden - and 17-year-old Norco, CA, student Taylor, had specific messages to send.
"There are so many shootings within high schools, and I could never imagine losing one of my friends or someone close to me," Taylor said. The teen had traveled about 50 miles with a group of friends from suburban Norco, CA, where she lives.
Her sign, which read "My Books Are For Reading, Not For Shielding," featured drawings of bloody, bullet-hole-laden books.
"I wanted to come out and support this because we need to make change. We need better gun laws," she told me, flashing a smile as she ran ahead to rejoin her friends.

A Nazi Just Won the GOP Nomination For a Congressional Seat in Illinois
Coming to a U. S. House district near you: A GOP candidate running solo in the primary who admires Nazi Germany. How Illinois Republicans got saddled with Arthur Jones, from @lynnsweet and @FrankMainNews https://t.co/06OthmDe4M #twill #2018election #elections #Chicago pic.twitter.com/Uw2tHyoH8A
- Chicago Sun-Times (@Suntimes) February 4, 2018
Update: On March 20, Arthur Jones won the GOP nomination for Congress in the 3rd Congressional District, after running unopposed. Jones will now face off against a still-to-be-decided Democratic candidate in the 2018 midterm elections.
If you need more proof of crumbling American ideologies - particularly, Republican ideologies - look no further than aspiring Illinois politician Arthur "Art" Jones, an anti-Semitic Holocaust denier associated with the neo-Nazis and KKK who is poised to snag a Republican nomination for a congressional race.
A 70-year-old retired insurance agent, Jones has a history of running for office - and failing. He made an early run for Milwaukee mayor in 1976 and throughout the '90s and aughts made numerous attempts to secure a seat in Congress. More importantly, he was a leader in the American Nazi Party - and currently leads the America First Committee, an Illinois-based hate group that has been flagged by the Southern Poverty Law Center.
Jones is running unopposed for the GOP nomination in the 3rd Congressional District, and he'll face off against one of two Democratic candidates; it'll either be Dan Lipinski, the current highly conservative representative in office for his seventh term, or Marie Newman, a rival with a background in business hoping to replace "career politician" Lipinski and his "far-right record." The one silver lining here is that there is a possibility that Jones could be knocked off the ballot as he was in 2016, after election code violations. The district he is running in is highly Democratic - hence why he ran for the ticket unopposed - and he is poised for a major loss, should he make it to November.
Still, Jones has become a topic of much discussion given his history, as well as his highly unsavory - and not to mention retrograde - points of view. In a recent interview with The Chicago Sun-Times, Jones's opinions were reiterated to the shock of many: "To me the Holocaust is what I said it is: It's an international extortion racket," Jones said before referring to the tragedy as the "biggest blackest lie in history." The congressional hopeful's campaign website includes the image of the GOP elephant draped in a Confederate flag, which is noted on the site to be "a symbol of White pride and White resistance." It also features photos of Jones speaking at KKK and neo-Nazi events.
It's obvious that Jones has highly destructive opinions - and that's exactly why he has been tracked by the Anti-Defamation League for years. The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Republicans have spoken out against the candidate, saying that the party in Illinois and beyond has "no place for Nazis like Arthur Jones." But regardless of what ultimately comes of Jones, his voice has been amplified. Moreover, he is far from a lone agent - many (highly troubling) GOP candidates are in the process of running for office, like Trump pardonee Joe Arpaio in Arizona (who recently gave interviews to five anti-Semitic publications), Paul Nehlen in Wisconsin (a Christian conservative who said Jews will "burn in hell"), and failed Senate hopeful Roy Moore in Alabama (who is noted for sexual assault allegations and anti-gay, anti-Muslim views and employed anti-Semites).
While Jones will likely fade into political obscurity, the fact that he is this close to taking an office on behalf of Republicans (and remains unchecked in his pursuit) is something that we should all remain aware of. And as we head toward the Fall's midterm elections, it's a reminder of how important it is to know what the candidates running in your area stand for - and how important it is to exercise your vote.
Donald Trump Tweets He's "Like, Really Smart," and the Jokes Write Themselves
Someone should probably tell Donald Trump that smart people usually don't tweet about being "like, really smart" and "a very stable genius." But it's too late for that because the President already used his Twitter fingers to send out those exact sentiments on Saturday morning. His tweets seemed to be in response to the claims that a number of White House staffers questioned his mental stability.
The report comes from a scathing new book titled Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House, which was released this week by Michael Wolff, a media columnist who was "a fly on the wall" in the White House during the early days of Trump's presidency.
Trump's lawyer, Charles Harder, reportedly demanded the tell-all book, which reveals details about Trump's relationship with Melania and his poor eating habits, not be published by citing "defamation, libel, and actual malice," but Wolff went forward with the release anyway; he actually pushed the release date up a few days earlier so the public could read it sooner.
The bold move likely pissed Trump off even further, and it appears the President felt the need to remind us that he is a genius and "like, really smart." Needless to say, the internet had the best reaction to Trump's tweets, and we've rounded up the best of the bunch ahead.

Every Emotional Photo You Need to See From Barack and Michelle Obama's Portrait Unveiling
A little over a year after departing the White House, Barack and Michelle Obama unveiled their official portraits at the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery on Feb. 12. Much like the former president's time in office, the portraits are unique and unprecedented in their use of prints, vibrant colors, and personality.
Kehinde Wiley painted Mr. Obama's official portrait, while Amy Sherald painted that of Mrs. Obama. The two have made history as the first black artists to create official presidential portraits for the Smithsonian, with Wiley also being the first openly LGBTQ+ artist to do so.
"To call this experience humbling would be an understatement," the former president wrote on Instagram. "Thanks to Kehinde and Amy, generations of Americans - and young people from all around the world - will visit the National Portrait Gallery and see this country through a new lens. They'll walk out of that museum with a better sense of the America we all love. Clear-eyed. Big-hearted. Inclusive and optimistic."
The unveiling ceremony was filled with many heartwarming moments, like when Mr. Obama stopped to just stare up at the former first lady's portrait. Ahead, enjoy every emotional picture from the historic event.
Will Vision Die in Avengers: Infinity War? An Investigation
When it comes to Avengers: Infinity War, pretty much no one is safe. All it takes is one look at the film's haunting trailers to know that the stakes could not be higher. After all, evil Thanos plans on destroying half the universe. To say there may be casualties is a serious understatement. In fact, I'd argue that, when it comes to the third Avengers movie, it's not so much a question of whether one of the heroes will die. It's more of a question of which heroes will die.
With the trailers giving big hints about the fates of our favorite characters, fans have already begun to speculate. Right now, many seem to believe Iron Man may be the one to go, while others are worried about the fate of Captain America. But there's another, more obvious frontrunner when it comes to potential victims: Vision, who first arrives in Avengers: Age of Ultron.
As quick refresher, Vision is actually just an android. His vibranium body was originally meant for Ultron, but the Avengers managed to hijack it and imbue it with the remnants of J.A.R.V.I.S., aka Tony Stark's computerized personal assistant. But the whole reason Vision is a functioning entity is that he has one of the six Infinity Stones, the Mind Stone, embedded in his forehead. And of course, the Infinity Stones are what Thanos seeks in his quest to destroy half the universe. The question is, can Vision survive if Thanos rips the Mind Stone from his body? It seems pretty unlikely.
Even in the trailers, a couple of scenes do not look good for Vision. In one moment, our favorite Wakandan princess Shuri seems to have pulled up a hologram of the android. While similar holograms in Black Panther usually show more of the torso, Vision just looks like a disembodied head. And, well, he doesn't look like he's in the best shape either. There's also another shot in which someone seemingly attempts to gouge the Stone out of Vision's forehead while he screams in agony. That . . . can't be good.
On the flip side, there are a couple of other moments that give us hope. When a new spot dropped during the Super Bowl, some fans called out a brief shot in which it looked like Vision was walking around without his Infinity Stone. (I'm not entirely convinced, but let's follow this thread anyway.) If the Avengers know Thanos is seeking the Stones, perhaps they tried to get a jump on the villain by figuring out a way to extract the stone from Vision. I mean, with all the insane technology Wakanda has to offer, perhaps the good guys found a new way for the hero to sustain his life force?
There's also another shot with Scarlet Witch; Vision seems to have taken a human form. Call it witchcraft, or a dream, or a tech-savvy innovation, but it still means there might be another way for Vision to be in the world. And maybe his new form means he goes through some kind of traumatic event and finds his way to the other side. Then again, he does still have the Stone in this particular shot, so I'm not entirely sure his human form means he'll survive the film.
At this point, it's ultimately unclear. We do have evidence that supports both his death and survival, but the fact that he currently must rely on the power of the Mind Stone to function isn't very promising. Luckily, we won't have to wait long to find out: Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on April 27.
Liam Hemsworth Strips Down in the Rain After Hitting the Waves in Malibu
Liam Hemsworth isn't letting a little rain keep him from hitting the waves. On Thursday, the actor went surfing in Malibu, CA, and was spotted toweling off outside of his car once he was done. The 28-year-old showed off his muscular physique as he slipped out of his wetsuit, and I couldn't help but think how lucky his fiancée, Miley Cyrus, is. I mean, did you also happen to catch their St. Patrick's Day celebration last week? If you need a little break today, take your time and make sure you appreciate Liam's body in all of its shirtless glory. You're welcome.
Finally! Watch the Deleted Scene of Prince Harry and Prince William in The Last Jedi
The First Order gets the royal treatment! In November, it was confirmed that Prince William and Prince Harry would make a special appearance in Star Wars: The Last Jedi as stormtroopers, but fans were sorely disappointed when their scene didn't make the final cut. Now we can finally see the deleted scene starring the British royals, but if you don't watch close enough, you could miss them.
Prince William and Prince Harry Look Like Little Kids Again While Visiting the Star Wars Set
The dramatic scene kicks off when Finn (John Boyega) and Rose (Kelly Marie Tran) sneak into the First Order base, but end up stuck in an elevator with a group of stormtroopers. Those stormtroopers? Prince Harry and Prince William. It's easy to spot them, standing a few inches taller than the crowd of white-armored troops. But that's not all! In the clip, one of the troopers (with an interesting accent) recognizes Finn from his trooper days, congratulating him for becoming a captain, and even slapping him on the tush. This frisky trooper is reportedly Tom Hardy! According to Deadline, the deleted scene above will be included in the DVD released in April.
The First Look at George R. R. Martin's Terrifying New Sci-Fi Show Is Here
If stomach-turning Game of Thrones moments like the Red Wedding and the mutiny against Jon Snow still freak you out, you might want to sit down: George R.R. Martin has a new show coming to SyFy, and it looks terrifying. The first trailer for Nightflyers opens with a splatter of blood on the wall of a space station, before Gretchen Mol's Dr. Agatha Matheson reveals, "It was a warning, not a distress call." Uh-oh.
The sci-fi series is based on Martin's 1980 novella of the same name, which was actually adapted into a film in 1987. The 2018 version of the story promises just as many deep space horrors, following eight scientists and one exceptionally powerful telepath as they board The Nightflyer and head out on a mission that soon takes a turn for the worse. According to Martin, who makes an appearance in the trailer, "Nightflyers is a haunted house story on a starship. It's Psycho in space."
The trailer offers us a glimpse of the "acres" of elaborate sets SyFy built for the show, so even if there aren't any dragons, you can expect high production values for this space adventure. Now for the bad news: Nightflyers doesn't premiere until sometime this Fall. But hey, that's still better than 2019, right?
Too Cute! Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon's Kids Are Real-Life Rock Stars at the KCAs
Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon's kids look like they had the most fun at the 2018 Kids' Choice Awards. The stylish family arrived at the slimy award show decked out like the real-life rock stars that they are, and it was too cute. Mariah walked the orange carpet wearing an all-black ensemble including a leather jacket, studded heels, and shades, which her 6-year-old daughter, Monroe, mimicked almost identically. Meanwhile, Nick's mini me, Moroccan, also matched his dad's outfit with an orange-and-white sweatsuit that screamed: "too cool for school." The twins also got to pose for photos with host John Cena inside the event, because that's what rock stars do. See more photos from their fun family night out ahead.
Demi Lovato's Emotional Performance at March For Our Lives Will Make You Burst Into Tears
Demi Lovato was one of the many performers who took to the stage on Saturday to perform at the March For Our Lives rally in Washington DC. The event, organized by students around the country, aimed to send a message to congress that citizens have had #Enough of the recent wave of mass shootings, including the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in February where 17 innocent people lost their lives. Grab a tissue and watch Lovato's powerful performance of "Skyscraper" above, then see which other stars came out to show support for the important cause.
Consider This Wishful Thinking, but What If the Flash-Forwards on This Is Us Aren't Real?
Warning: This Is Us season two spoilers ahead.
This Is Us was jam-packed with emotional moments during the season two finale, but nothing comes close to the final few minutes of the episode. During three shocking flash-forwards, we learn that Toby is extremely depressed, Kevin is dating Beth's cousin Zoe, and Randall is getting ready to visit a mysterious "her" with his grown-up daughter Tess.
While it's unclear who exactly the "her" is, fans have already started imagining the worst. Is Beth dead? Is Deja in prison? Is Annie sick? However, we have a different theory. What if the flash-forward isn't actually a flash-forward at all? What if it's actually a "worse-case scenario"?
During the episode, Randall and Beth play a "worse-case scenario" game in which they spitball horrible hypothetical situations to make themselves feel better about the present. We already know that the writers love their hidden Easter eggs, so what if the simple game is actually a clue for future episodes? It's possible that the flash-forward, or at least some of the flash-forwards, are what could be rather than what already is.
Perhaps that will be part of the journey of season three: trying to figure out what is real and not real. The show's creator, Dan Fogelman, did say that they are going to play with timelines a lot next season. Not to mention, there has already been talk about introducing an alternate timeline on the show.
If this theory does end up being true, season three will be one crazy ride.
This Hilarious and Unexpected Twist Is the Best Part of Santa Clarita Diet Season 2
Big spoilers for season two of Santa Clarita Diet ahead!
Santa Clarita Diet is officially back for season two, and in all honesty, the new episodes of Netflix's zombie comedy far surpass the first season. They're funnier, gorier, and have something that I didn't even realize I was missing: Nathan Fillion's talking, rotting, severed head.
That's right - Gary West, Fillion's scumbag realtor character from season one, is still alive. Well . . . kind of.
As a refresher, the first (and seemingly last) time we see Gary is in the pilot episode, "So Then a Bat or a Monkey," when he aggressively attempts to put the moves on the recently-undead Sheila (Drew Barrymore). Despite her protests, he continues to assault her, which is when she decides he's the perfect candidate to be her next meal. Sheila turns the tables on Gary by literally eating him alive, and later she and husband Joel (Timothy Olyphant) head out to the desert to bury the tattered remains of his body.
Fast forward to season two, and realtor power couple Joel and Sheila are given a high-profile development to sell. The only problem? The new homes are going to be built on the exact same plot of land where they buried Gary. They journey back out there in the middle of the night to destroy the evidence once again, where they discover a very chatty Gary, sans torso.
Gary begs Joel and Sheila not to put him out of his misery until they complete his final wish: ensuring his niece can live a comfortable life. Of course, even after they do that, the couple can't help but keep Gary around - he's a lot nicer than he used to be, and he's also the only one Joel can really open up to about the zombie business.
At the end of the day, it's an unexpectedly original gag that adds just the right amount of zaniness to each episode. I know I personally will never tire of seeing Fillion's disembodied head dole out wisdom while perched inside a vase. The decision to bring the Castle star's character back from the dead was actually one of the things that had both the cast and production team most excited for season two. When I sat down with Barrymore and Olyphant in February, they couldn't help but gush over the campy twist.
"There's a character [reintroduced] this year, and it was one of my favorite ideas," Olyphant said. "When [creator Victor Fresco] brought that up, because we had spoken a few months before we shot going over some of the things they were thinking, well, when he said that, I was like, 'Stop! That has to happen. That's genius.' That character has a life throughout. It's such an unexpected, wonderful character this year."
Barrymore quickly chimed in, noting that she was ready to do just about anything to make Fillion's return happen. "When Victor told it to me, I said I would give up my salary, and if the person says they're unavailable or can't do it, I'm gonna show up at their house and camp out until they agree."
While it's safe to assume Barrymore didn't end up setting up shop on Fillion's lawn, I'm endlessly grateful the Santa Clarita Diet team was able to make it happen.

Chris Evans Might Feel "Invisible" With His New Mustache, but Fans Definitely Noticed
Chris Evans, stop playing with our hearts! Between a sad breakup and Chris's recent announcement that he's moving on from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, our beloved Captain America has been the topic of a lot of conversation lately. So much so that when the actor debuted a new mustache for his Broadway debut in Lobby Hero earlier this month, naturally, people had feelings about it. I mean, let's not forget the way everyone reacted to Henry Cavill's mustache (or lack thereof).
While the internet is unsure how to feel about the actor's new look, Chris says his mustache has given him somewhat of a heroic ability. In his recent profile with The New York Times, Chris revealed that people don't recognize him at all with his mustache. "It's like I'm invisible," he said. If he's looking for a little anonymity, it seems like the stache is a success, and as long as Chris is happy, I'm happy. Although, maybe someone should warn him to not take Henry's CGI hair removal route if it overlaps with filming Avengers 4. Just sayin'.
Keep reading to see the hilarious fan reactions to Chris's facial hair, and if that's not enough, check out the new trailer for Avengers: Infinity War.
Netflix Hasn't Renewed On My Block For Season 2 Just Yet, but Here's Why It Should
It only took us one episode to fall head over heels for On My Block, Netflix's latest teen comedy. The 10-episode season follows five 14-year-old kids growing up in a rough neighborhood of South Central LA as they start freshman year of high school and also have to deal with everything from gang violence and first love to finding buried treasure (yes, buried treasure in LA - just go with it). More important, the show cocreated by Awkward's Lauren Iungerich, Jeremy Haft, and Eddie Gonzalez is a major step forward for diversity in a genre of TV shows that typically feature predominantly white teens in wealthier areas.
Starring Jason Genao, Sierra Capri, Diego Tinoco, Brett Gray, and Ronni Hawk (all actors of color) and featuring an amazing soundtrack, we should note, season one is an easy, enjoyable, and necessary Netflix binge. So what we need to know ASAP is if it's getting renewed by the streaming giant for season two, especially because of that shocking cliffhanger.
As it stands, Netflix has yet to officially speak out about whether or not it has plans to renew the series, but don't freak out just yet. In the past, the company has waited until months afterward to let anything slip. There's definitely still hope! What we do know is that On My Block is one of the most solid, diverse, and entertaining series aimed at teens released by Netflix in quite some time - we have to believe they'd want to continue telling Monse, Jamal, Cesar, Olivia, and Ruby's story.
30 Photos of The Miz and Maryse That Prove They Really Are WWE's "It Couple"
If you aren't familiar with WWE superstars Maryse Ouellet and Mike "The Miz" Mizanin yet, allow us to fill you in. The self-proclaimed "it" couple are WWE wrestlers, star on E!'s Total Divas, and will be appearing in a new unscripted USA show, Miz & Mrs., later this year. Mike was also a contestant on MTV's The Real World: Back to New York and has starred in films like The Marine 3: Homefront and Santa's Little Helper.
As far as their personal lives go, the pair first met when Mike hosted WWE's Diva Search and Maryse was a contestant. Although they didn't date until later (just like Nikki Bella and John Cena), they eventually made things official when they tied the knot in February 2014. They are currently expecting their first child, a baby girl. As we wait for their little one to arrive, take a look at some of Maryse and Mike's cutest moments together.
Selena Gomez's White Swimsuit Is Under $150 and Downright Adorable
After spotting Selena Gomez in a blue, halter-style maillot in Jamaica, where she accompanied Justin Bieber to his father's wedding, we were impressed by her fine ability to accessorize a simple suit. Selena wore layered necklaces and a sheer skirt, and it appears that became her "uniform" during her visit to Montego Bay.
Selena also brought along this white Tavik one-piece ($146), which she covered up with lightweight linen pants that had a raw hem. She opted for the same jewelry and carried a woven purse - but wait, what's that adorable detail on her swimsuit? Yep, it's a cute row of snap buttons. They're small, but they made a mighty impact on her look, which we'd call bohemian with a girlie touch. Ahead, you can see her full ensemble, then pick up similar designs with this sweet but subtle add-on.
Ivanka Trump Did a Scientist Cosplay, and Naturally the Internet Lost Its Collective Sh*t

Another day in Trump's America, another drama - but this time, it's all about the first daughter.
On March 19, Ivanka Trump set off a chain of events that was so thoroughly predictable, we found ourselves waiting for each shoe to drop: the daughter of the most powerful man in America shared a photo of herself cosplaying the platonic ideal of a scientist, in full lab regalia, in support of Donald Trump's (by all accounts failing) infrastructure plan.
"Talking #WorkforceDevelopment and Infrastructure in Iowa today!" Ivanka captioned the photo, adding, "@realDonaldTrump's #Infrastructure initiative includes a robust plan to expand skills-focused learning to prepare the next generation of American workers for 21st century job opportunities."
Naturally, the internet had a field day with this striking revelation, and it would seem that for all intents and purposes, the current administration did not learn much from the whole KellyCards debacle last year, as it once again allowed a visual that could not slide under the meme radar (a fact that was certainly not lost on the savvy denizens of the web).

In all fairness, Ivanka did at one point appear to be taking up the good fight when it came to women's rights and pay equality. But since her father took office, she's done the literal polar opposite. And at this point it's also probably worth noting that she wasn't out in the Beltway witnessing scientists develop a cure for illness - she was meeting with high school students and checking the nicotine levels in "vape juice."

Fuller Lips Without Filler? These Pros Share 9 Insider Tips
Call it whatever you will - the Kylie Jenner effect, the filler phenomenon - but there's no denying the popularity of a full, juicy lip.
In 2016 alone, over 28,000 people threw down cash in the name of an enhanced pout via fillers and, since the year 2000, the plastic surgery industry has seen a nearly 50-percent increase in lip augmentation procedures.
So nope, you're not imagining it! It seems as if everyone is rocking bigger lips these days.
While filler is certainly one way to enhance your lip line, you don't have to reach for the needle to achieve a plump pout. We reached out to a handful of makeup artists and got them to dish on their best techniques and favorite products for creating a fuller looking lip without a visit to the plastic surgeon's office.
I Finally Found a Dry Shampoo That Won't Make My Brunette Hair Chalky - and It's Only $9
I am a devout user of dry shampoo, but many formulas leave my brunette hair looking like an 18th century powdered wig. The chalkiness makes my dark locks appear dull and faded. Luckily, I finally found a solution that doesn't give me Marie Antoinette vibes. Batiste Dry Shampoo ($9) in Beautiful Brunette is one of the bestselling hair products on Amazon. It has almost 3,000 reviews and 67 percent of customers give it five stars.
The secret to the formula is that it's made with a brown tint. The color works for any hue of brunette hair, cool or warm. On top of finally resolving the powdery problem I was facing, it also immediately banishes excess oil and gives my strands tons of volume. The clean, floral fragrance smells amazing; it's the perfect pick-me-up in between washes.
All you have to do is hold the bottle about a foot away from your hair, spray it on your roots, and lightly massage it in. Once you're finished, make sure to wash your hands so you don't get any brown residue on your clothes. After that, you can style your locks however you please.
"I have tried other brands of dry shampoo and will never go back," one customer said. "This is by far the best. It goes on so easily. I barely have to brush it out at all. The brown tint matches my hair color perfectly. It works like magic to eliminate oil in my super fine, thin hair and I do not have to wash everyday, which is my goal. Highly recommended."
This stuff changed my life - I'm begging you to give it a shot. I suggest buying the three-pack because you're going to be utterly addicted.
