After Trying This Lip Balm, I'm Throwing Away All of the Other Ones in My Purse
Author's Note: As you may have noticed, I work for POPSUGAR. But this review is a genuine take on a new favorite product and was neither requested nor influenced by my employer. I'm just really f*cking pumped about this lip balm, y'all.
Hi, everyone. My name is Brinton, and I'm a lip balm addict. As I type this, I can count at least six different types of lip balm sitting in various spots on my desk, and that's just what I can see - there are a handful of others in my purse, not to mention scattered around my apartment. From tinted to clear, potted to tubed, I've been around the block more than once when it comes to keeping my lips hydrated.
I was simultaneously struck with delight and an overwhelming craving for Girl Scout cookies - and the delight part isn't something I experience often.
When my boss, Lisa Sugar, asked me to help test and honestly review products as she developed for our new beauty line, I was most skeptical about the lip balm. How could Beauty by POPSUGAR Be Calm Lip Save ($20) possibly stand out from the countless others I've been through over the years?
But I needn't have worried about giving negative feedback on the balm - as it turns out, I should have been concerned that I'll bankrupt myself buying a million tubes of it.
For context, I judge a lip balm based on seven factors:
- Consistency: Is it so sticky that my hair will get stuck to my mouth on a windy day or make my fiancé avoid kissing me?
- Staying power: Am I going to need to reapply it every hour to keep my lips moisturized or will one swipe be good all day?
- Appearance: Few things gross me out more than when a lip product ends up looking gunky on your mouth after a few hours, so I pay very close attention to how a balm looks over the course of a day.
- Long-term effectiveness: Is this one of those shady balms that actually causes lips to become more reliant on a product or will it work to heal my perpetually chapped lips?
- Ingredients: What's actually in the balm I'm using? Since I'll inevitably get it in my mouth, I don't want an ingredients list filled with chemicals and ingredients that make me feel icky.
- Cruelty-free formula: Whenever possible, I strive to support brands that develop and manufacture products without animal testing.
- Scent: This one is pretty straightforward - does the lip balm smell good? If it smells ultra synthetic or chemical, I'm not interested.
Luckily for me - and, I suppose, for all of us - the new balm blows all of my criteria out of the water. It's got a nonsticky formula that lasts all day (even through burritos, which I've tested more times than I'd like to admit), it stays consistently natural-looking without any gross buildup, and it's made with a natural, cruelty-free formula that actually treats your chapped lips rather than just lending temporary relief. But best of all, my friends, is that it smells like the very best Girl Scout cookie: Thin Mints. The instant I first applied Be Calm Lip Save, I was simultaneously struck with delight and an overwhelming craving for cookies - and the delight part isn't something I experience often.
Out of 80-plus products in the Beauty by POPSUGAR line, the lip balm is by far my favorite! It's got me ready to throw away all the rest of my lip balm collection . . . and for somebody with as many tubes of lip product as I have, that's not a small undertaking. But once I discovered that it can also be used as a treatment for dry hands and elbows, I knew I was hooked. Who can resist double-duty beauty that smells like cookies? I know I can't.
You can find Beauty by POPSUGAR Be Calm Lip Save ($20) at Ulta or on the dedicated Beauty by PS website along with the rest of the 80+ items in the collection.

This Affordable Set of Facial Oils Is My Secret to Glowing, Healthy Skin
Image Source: POPSUGAR Photography / Nicole Yi
Reviving my dry Winter skin is no easy feat, so how have I managed to score a Summer-like glow off season? Hint: it's not highlighter - it's Honey Belle's Gold Collection ($35). The organic, natural skincare line's set features three of its star products: Luxe (cleansing oil), Flora (rosewater toner), and Elixir (facial oil). Although each one is fantastic as a standalone product, they work best in combination with each other to achieve healthy, luminous skin.
After just a week of using the collection, I immediately noticed a smoother, softer, and moisturized face that I'm more confident in showing off sans makeup (like in the photo above). Now two months after putting them into practice, I'm close to retiring my former favorite products in place of these. According to some of the raving reviews online, others have noticed less visible facial scarring, fewer breakouts, and better control of their oily skin in addition to the aforementioned benefits. Here's a breakdown of each bottle!
Step 1: Luxe
This cleansing oil is gentle enough for all skin types but tough on waterproof makeup. Rather than using a harsh makeup remover wipe, apply a few drops of Luxe (starting at $14) into your palm and work through your face in circular motions using your fingertips. You'll see how easily dirt, impurities, and makeup come off. Once you're done, no need to use soap! Simply rinse off with warm water before moving onto the next step.
Ingredients: organic apricot kernel seed oil, rosemary essential oil, bergamot essential oil, and vitamin E.
Benefits: reduces fine lines, age spots, and scars and improves skin tone.
Step 2: Flora
This rosewater toner contains high levels of vitamin C, which aids in erasing fine lines and boosts collagen levels. Flora (starting at $12) soothes acne while providing moisture and ridding bacteria. Apply liberally to your face, and use your fingertips to evenly distribute the product to your skin. It'll seal in the Luxe you used right before and immediately produce a gorgeous glow. But wait, it gets even better.
Ingredients: organic rosewater, witch hazel extract, and rosewood essential oil.
Benefits: cleanses, tightens, and tones the skin; diminishes wrinkles and pores; rejuvenates the skin; reduces acne and scarring; and keeps skin looking healthy.
Step 3: Elixir
The final step of the collection is packed with omega-3s and -6s, which results in improved skin elasticity and, therefore, younger- and healthier-looking skin. Top it all off by rubbing a dime-size amount of Elixir (starting at $15) between your palms and pat onto your face and neck. Enjoy your beaming complexion!
Ingredients: organic cold pressed hemp seed oil, grapefruit essential oil, basil essential oil, rosemary essential oil, and vitamin E.
Benefits: makes skin firmer and more hydrated, enhances dull skin, and improves skin tone.
In addition to smelling amazing and working great for all skin types (including oily skin!), the Gold Collection is also affordable. Each mini bottle (0.5 oz.) is sold separately for $12 to $14 or $35 for all three. Despite its small size, Honey Belle's set has lasted me for the past couple months, and I'm only barely halfway through the bottles.
The site recommends using twice per day, once in the morning and evening, but I've only been using mine at night while I try to get through my other products without putting them to waste. On the weekends, however, I love limiting my skincare routine to this awesome trio and leaving the house with only Glossier's Boy Brow and some mascara on. I've honestly never received so many compliments on my skin before! If you're looking for a low-maintenance skincare regimen, the Gold Collection was made for you.
I Tried This Teeth-Whitening Charcoal From Amazon (It's a No. 1 Bestseller and Made My Grin Glow!)
I am always looking for ways to have a movie-star-glowing grin, so I was excited to find this popular Active Wow Teeth Whitening Charcoal Powder ($25). It's the No. 1 bestselling option on Amazon, it has over 14,000 reviews, and 77 percent of customers give it five stars.
I decided to put the product to the test myself. Step one was to wet my toothbrush. Then I dipped it into the powder and brushed my teeth like I normally would. (Make sure to rinse your mouth with water really well so no black residue is left behind.) My teeth were significantly whiter after a week of using it.
Wondering how charcoal works? The brand explains it best. "Derived from the highest-quality coconut sources, Active Wow's activated charcoal formula is safe to use for whitening your teeth, while being easy on your gums. Active Wow naturally whitens your teeth, not through harsh dental-grade whitening peroxides, but through the power of activated charcoal, nature's best purifiers, and detoxifiers."
If you'd like to see reviews, check out the amazing photos on Amazon. There are countless pictures that prove how well it works.
If you're looking for a noticeably brighter smile, I suggest giving this stuff a try. It doesn't leave you with a weird taste in your mouth - just dazzling teeth.
How a Bus Driver Taught 1 Dad an Incredibly Important Lesson
At the start of the school year, 6-year-old Amelia Feaster met a new bus driver, Gina Hess.
Although the first grader has only known Gina for a short amount of time, this generous woman taught both the child and her dad, Caleb, a major lesson about humanity. A few days ago, the Pennsylvania dad heard a knock at the door and was surprised to see Gina standing there.
Apparently earlier in the school year, Amelia had mentioned that she didn't have a bike anymore because she had outgrown hers. Gina told the child that she would bring her a new one when it got warmer out, and on that evening, she kept her word. However, instead of bringing one new bike, she brought two and told Caleb that the second bike was for when Amelia had friends over.

Amelia wasn't at home at the time, but when she arrived, she went running toward the Hello Kitty bike and exclaimed that it was exactly what she wanted. "I think it's interesting that kindness can come from anywhere; it's not necessarily someone you know well or someone you even see daily," Caleb told POPSUGAR. "We should all be willing to love our neighbors as ourselves. This involves giving - giving generously without expecting anything in return."
Caleb asked if he could repay Gina, but she wouldn't accept any money. Amelia is the only girl in her family with three younger brothers, and Caleb noticed not only how much this unexpected gift meant to the child but also how excited Gina was to give it to her. "Gina has personally inspired me to see the needs of others, to listen to others around me, and to meet these needs when given the opportunity," Caleb added.
30 Rarely Used Baby Names Worth Bringing Back
When we think of uncommon baby names, we often go straight to quirky celebrity baby names like Bronx and Apple. But if you think about it, out-there names are sort of normal nowadays, and classic names that were popular years ago have stopped being used.
Giving your child a name that hasn't been popular in recent years means that while their name will be different to all their friends, they might still find it on a key ring. The popularity of these baby names has steadily declined in the past few decades, so if you're looking for something unique for your little one, consider bringing them back.

My Dad Was Never Home When I Was Growing Up - and I Couldn't Be Closer to Him
When my brother was born two years before me, my mom was happy to become a stay-at-home mom and raise the kids. We were lucky that my dad could support the family even if she didn't work. However, in order for my dad to make enough money, he had to be away from home. A lot. He basically never had a job in the city we live in, and there even used to be times when he would travel to Hong Kong for three weeks and be home for only one. And yet my relationship with my dad couldn't be stronger.
I grew up in a household where my dad was only home on the weekends. During the week, he was off in one city or another, working hard to support us (he's self-employed, so the city he was in changed every couple of years). My mom - and, well, an au pair - was home and took care of my brother and me. And yet I never had the feeling that my dad wasn't there for me.
Maybe it was the frequent phone calls with us that made me feel that way. He would call a couple of evenings a week, just to catch up with us and see how we were doing and what was going on in our lives. From when I was younger, I only remember my dad laughingly calling me out on the fact that I was watching TV while on the phone with him because my responses weren't really all that engaged. So clearly I didn't feel starved for my dad's attention, and as I grew older, I learned to appreciate those phone calls more and more.
Maybe it was because he was amazing at making up for missed time on the weekends. He is an incredibly responsible man, and when he said he was going to be there, he was. No sudden "Sorry, I can't make it tonight . . ."s or any "I know I already wasn't home last week, but something came up this weekend too . . ."s. We could always rely on him when he said he was going to be home, so I never felt like he ever put work over us. And when I did complain, my mom was quick to remind me that the only reason we could live in a beautiful house and have food on the table and go to school was because my dad worked so hard. And that shut me up every time.
Maybe it was because he was always there when it mattered. I barely remember any birthdays, graduations, holidays, etc., when my dad wasn't there. I'm sure he wasn't actually at all of them, but he made it feel like he was. And if he really couldn't make it, he made sure to plan a make-up party, dinner, etc., the next time he was home. And he would call that day and take time to talk to us and explain to us why he couldn't be there. We never held it against him.
Maybe it was because whenever he did come home, he made sure to spend quality time with us. I remember so many amazing vacations with my family when my dad would take a lot of time out of his well-deserved relaxation time to spend with us. He would sit for hours and read Harry Potter to us in Florida or even take us to new places around the world. Family meals and family time were always incredibly important to both my parents, but as I got older, I realized how they were even more precious for my dad, who never got to spend as much time with his kids and wife as I'm sure he would've loved to.
Whatever it was, I never felt like my dad wasn't there or didn't want to spend time with us. He was always an amazing dad, and to this day I am incredibly close to him. I know he will always be there for me when I need him, and I know he will always be cheering for me - even from afar.
My parents still live with their long-distance relationship, in which my dad comes home only on the weekends, but it hasn't hindered their love at all. Never in my life have I seen a couple be more in love, and I know this will definitely influence my decisions in the future when it comes to raising my own kids. I will never see a far-away job as an obstacle to a great relationship with my children, and I don't think anyone else should either. Time spent right will always pay off.
Photographer Shares Heartbreaking Photos of 2-Year-Old Who Died Waiting For a Heart Transplant
Two heartbroken parents are sharing a group of very private photos of their family's last moments with their 2-year-old daughter, who passed away waiting for a heart transplant. Adalynn, who was born with a congenital heart defect (CHD), was being assisted by a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) - a mechanical pump implanted inside a person's chest that helps a weakened heart pump blood. Although these pumps can be lifesaving, Adalynn unfortunately experienced complications as a result of her LVAD and developed a dangerous blood clot, which traveled to her brain, leaving her brain-damaged and therefore rendering her ineligible for a heart transplant.
Suha Dabit - a photographer, the founder of World of Broken Hearts, and mom to a daughter who received a heart transplant - captured Adalynn's final moments with her parents, Justin and Kristi, and her three siblings, and the photos will absolutely wreck you.
"I have been in their shoes. This could have very easily have been us," Suha, who knows firsthand what it's like watching your child go through heart failure, told POPSUGAR. "I felt Kristi's unconditional love for Addy and the excruciating pain. It was hard, I could barely hold it together. I left with a piece of my heart missing. I wish no family would ever have to go through this, but it happens, every day. Although I knew it would be extremely hard to take these images, I knew that these would be their last memories of her captured."
Suha originally shared the photos to the World of Broken Hearts Facebook page, where she included some eye-opening CHD statistics. She wrote:
I could tell you about the approximately 40,000 babies that are born every year with a congenital heart defect. That is roughly 1 in 100 newborns, every year. I could tell you about the half a heart that Adalynn was born with or the many [other] congenital heart defects that effect so many children across the globe. I could tell you about how underfunded CHD research is. I could tell you how babies with CHD's require a heart transplant at some point in their lives, why and what you could do to help. I could tell you that Adalynn is one of the 20 people that die every day waiting for a transplant. Or, I could tell you about my perspective of what it was like being in that room to document their last moments together as a family of six.
But there aren't any words to describe the pain and love I witnessed. CHD claims so many lives, too many lives. It tears families apart and forces siblings to grow up way too fast. It changes you in every aspect of your life, and to the very core of our heart and soul. It is hard, difficult and unfair. This. This is the reality for many CHD families every day.
In the gut-wrenching bunch of images, you can feel the family's anguish and heartbreak, knowing that in a few moments, they'd be removing Addy's LVAD and watching her pass on.
"I know they will hate and love looking at these images forever," Suha said. "I offer all the families I photograph in the hospital to keep the images I take private. I am thankful that Kristi and Justin allowed me to share such intimate moments of their family with the world, to spread so much needed CHD and organ donation awareness. This is CHD. These pictures are as raw and real as it comes. We need a cure. We need research funding."
If You Think You Need to Take Probiotics While Pregnant, Don't Panic
When I was pregnant with both of my children, I had a pretty big problem (besides, you know, not being able to see my feet): it became increasingly difficult to go number two. Yep, I was constipated. Since no natural remedies seemed to work, I feared that I would have to move on to probiotics. And as a paranoid pregnant woman, I was immediately concerned about harming my baby. I desperately needed some type of relief, but in no way was I going to get there by putting my little one at risk. So, I started researching.
According to the American Pregnancy Association, "Probiotics are living microorganisms, the majority of which are bacteria followed by yeast." Although that definition may sound pretty gross, probiotics are actually good for our bodies because they help get rid of the bad bacteria. "Probiotics, whether from foods or supplements, help your digestive system work more efficiently." Many individuals, pregnant or not, seek out probiotics by doing things like eating more yogurt or taking a supplement.
Brandi Jordan, doula and lactation consultant, told POPSUGAR that women can absolutely take probiotics while pregnant. "Some prenatal vitamins even include them along with their other daily recommended vitamins and minerals," she said. I wish I would have tried a probiotic sooner when I was pregnant, because gulping down warm prune juice (don't do it) felt like drinking tar. After I started taking probiotics, things began to move along much better than without them.
Research is still being conducted in regards to the perks of probiotic use during pregnancy; however, obstetricians and midwives alike are prescribing them. So, if you find that your digestive tract needs a little guidance during pregnancy, ask your healthcare provider about taking a probiotic. It may just do the trick.
Mom Responds to the Stranger Who Suggested She Spank Her Kid Having a Meltdown in Public
It's not ideal for any parent to be with their kids in public when a tantrum or meltdown comes on - but that doesn't mean that parent should resort to spanking when their child doesn't stop crying. Mom of two Mary Katherine Backstrom of Mom Babble was in a Publix grocery store with her 4-year-old son Benjamin and 2-year-old daughter Holland when both of her kids lost their cool and a stranger suggested Backstrom take her son outside and spank him. Her response, a video she dedicated to the woman with the words she couldn't think to say in the moment, outlines why spanking her children would in no way, shape, or form have helped the situation.
When the mom discovered there wasn't much food in the house, she packed up her kids and headed to Publix, where, after a few aisles of shopping, her kids began to get antsy. Giving them each a snack to keep them busy and just get through the task at hand, Backstrom cut the trip as short as possible and got the three of them into a checkout line, where both kids started to have a meltdown. A bag guy gave each of them a balloon, but Backstrom says the sweet gesture was a total mess - Holland's balloon floated to the ceiling within seconds, and Ben started to cry for his sister.
"The lady behind me in the parallel line . . . goes to the guy who's checking her out: 'I tell you what I'd do with that behavior. I'd take him outside and I'd [smacking noise].' This is what this lady says," Backstrom explains. "My son is 4 . . . My son cannot regulate himself yet. And he wasn't even being a selfish kid; he was empathizing with his sister who lost her balloon. Why would I want to beat that out of my child? Why would I want to take something that's good about my son and punish him for it?"
Backstrom continues, bringing up the concept of "toxic masculinity" while still addressing the stranger.
"What you're recommending I do to my son is take him outside and beat the emotion out of him. You wanna know what's wrong with half the men in this world who can't express themselves; who feel ashamed to cry? THAT. The 'I'm going to beat you for crying in the grocery store' is what's wrong. Well, you know what? Screw that lady!
Children are allowed to cry in public. Children are allowed to be in public. They're allowed to melt down in public - especially a 4- and a 2-year-old. They're human beings that are learning to regulate their emotions and express themselves. And the very last thing they need is Nosy Nelly in aisle six to throw in her behavior recommendations. No thanks, hard pass."
Backstrom then encourages all parents to take their kids out in public and to not be ashamed of the fact that they are being kids, because they still deserve respect. "They're tiny humans, but they're still humans."
Preach, mama!
7 Creative Ways to Motivate Your Kids to Do Their Homework
It's hard to get kids excited about things they don't want to do, like going to sleep, eating their veggies, and, yes, doing their homework. While some children are natural overachievers who enjoy school and relish in homework time, many children will rebel. And usually, once your child has it in their mind that they don't want to do something, it can be difficult to convince them otherwise. To help with this, we've come up with seven creative solutions to help get them excited about doing their homework (and doing it well!).
This Kid's Answer to an Alphabet Riddle Is So Profound, We Don't Have the Heart to Correct Him
1. Make a Colorful Workstation
Any adult who has a desk knows that having a colorful, inspiring workspace can really help you with creativity and productivity. The same can be said for a child's workstation! Whether they have their own desk in their room or have a workspace in a common area of your home, decorate it with things they are inspired by (colored pencils, a fun eraser, etc.) so that homework time is more fun.
2. Give Them a Reward
Rewarding your child for doing their homework can be a little controversial, but when done right, it's very effective. Some parents choose to reward their children with food or toys, but the reward can even be as simple as an hour of TV time or a creative, fun activity. Whatever your child's natural instincts, abilities, and interests, choose a reward that will motivate them to finish their homework.
3. Praise Your Child
Rewards don't necessarily have to be tangible objects. If you're uncomfortable with physical rewards, consider using praise as a reward. Children are often concerned with pleasing their parents, so if you establish that completing homework results in praise, they may be more willing to do their homework on a regular basis.
4. Establish a Homework Routine
Most children work better when a routine is established, so consider setting aside a certain time for homework every day after school. You can also let them have an hour or so after they get home to watch TV or have a snack first.
5. Let Your Child Decide When Homework Time Is
It can be hard to make children do something they don't want to do, so letting them have some level of agency and choice when it comes to their homework can really help motivate them. Instead of telling them when homework time is, sit them down and let them choose what works best for them. Maybe your child prefers to do their homework immediately when they get home from school, whereas some children need a break beforehand.
6. Encourage Using Technology
There are likely many ways your child uses an iPad or computer that are not homework-related, but instead of telling them to put down their devices during homework time, see if there are ways they can use technology to help them. The internet can be a powerful tool for studying and research, and there are lots of apps available that can help your child with spelling, math, and other subjects.
7. Make Homework Their Responsibility
Homework is a great way to teach your children responsibility. Ultimately, the only person who is impacted by whether or not they complete their homework is your child. Make sure they understand the implications of not doing their homework and, if necessary, let them find out the hard way. Making homework your child's responsibility will help them to see the direct results of their actions.
8 Reasons It's Better to Live in a Small Apartment Than a Big House
When it comes to your home, bigger isn't always better. In fact, while many people think that living in a small house or apartment is a disadvantage, there are many benefits to small space living that people in larger dwellings miss out on. While a big advantage is money-saving, small space living also lends itself to a number of decorating tricks and imaginative solutions that can turn even the tiniest of spaces into a stylish and practical abode.
The Reason Emma González's March For Our Lives Speech Was 6 Minutes and 20 Seconds Is Absolutely Heartbreaking
On March 24, Emma González took the stage at the March For Our Lives in Washington DC and gave a chilling speech about the 17 classmates she lost when 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz opened fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Feb. 14, 2018.
"Six minutes and about 20 seconds. In a little over six minutes, 17 of our friends were taken from us, 15 were injured, and everyone, absolutely everyone in the Douglas community, was forever altered," she said. González then called out the names of her deceased classmates with tears in her eyes, until she stopped suddenly for a prolonged moment of silence
The unbelievably brave and compassionate teenager stayed completely quiet until a timer she had went off. "Since the time that I came out here it has been 6 minutes and 20 seconds . . . Fight for your lives, before it's someone else's job," she said.
Watch González's entire speech above, and join us in saying what she said that day in March: never again!

This Cannabis Subscription Box Is Made For Beauty-Loving Weed Queens
We love a good subscription box. (Have you heard about ours?) But because so many brands from Birchbox to Sephora offer the service, it can be hard for a new one to find its footing. Something tells us that won't be the case for Dojabox, the latest mailer on our radar. What makes this one different? Well, Dojabox is a self-proclaimed "Monthly Subscription For Women Who Enjoy Mary Jane." OK, we're listening . . .
Dojabox was developed for pot-loving ladies who want to keep both their smoke stash and vanities stocked with ganj accoutrements. If you subscribe to this service, every month you'll get a slew of supplies, such as glass pipes and other stoner essentials. Of course, we're particularly eyeing the beauty offerings that come with Dojabox.
As reps for the service put it, "The beauty products we include in our Dojaboxes are aimed mostly at skin care and relaxation. Our boxes are influenced by cannabis, so most of our products are accessories and necessities for the everyday smoker with a couple beauty products per box to tie it all together."
Usually, the skincare pièce de résistance of each box is a bath product. In past months, this has come in the form of bath bombs, whipped soap, exfoliating scrubs, and bubble bars. Regardless of the specific item, each one is paraben- and cruelty-free, vegan, and handmade. Other Dojabox-approved goodies have been the TonyMoly I'm Real Sheet Masks, PIL'ATEN Collagen Lip and Eye Masks, Wondra Facial Cleansing Wipes, and Konjac Exfoliating Sponge Gentle Face Scrub.
We looked into our crystal ball (aka asked our friends at Dojabox) to learn what's coming next for beauty-minded subscribers, and they were kind enough to tell us that makeup brush cleaners, tweezers, foot peels, and hemp-infused skin and hair care will grace the bundle very soon!
This all comes at a price of $15 a month, and you can subscribe on Dojabox's site. Weed queens, you know what to do.
Hello, Freckles! Christina Aguilera Wears Nearly No Makeup on a Stunning New Cover
Over a decade later, Christina Aguilera is channeling the title of her career-defining album, Stripped. After previously teasing "new things on the horizon," the 37-year-old multihyphenate was just revealed as the cover star for Paper's Spring 2018 issue. The stunning shoot oscillates between pictures of Christina wearing avant-garde makeup and nearly no makeup at all.
In the interview, Christina said she is in the process of reassessing her beauty look and embracing a more natural look. "I'm at the place, even musically, where it's a liberating feeling to be able to strip it all back and appreciate who you are and your raw beauty," she said. Without missing a beat, however, she added, "I mean, I'm a girl that likes a beat face, let's not get it twisted."
Christina's barefaced cover look has made us realize a couple things: For starters, she must be a time traveler, because she looks like she hasn't aged since her "Genie in a Bottle" days. As most style writers know, three makes a trend. So when one of my POPSUGAR colleagues saw the Pinrose Secret Genius Shimmer Mist hit my desk back in February, she crossed her fingers hoping similar sprays would follow suit.
It seemed likely: we live in the year 2018, or as it's known in the beauty world, 1998. Styles from the late '90s and mid-aughts are being brought back to life like some sort of low-rise, bootcut-jean-wearing zombie. And you know what? I am succumbing to this nostalgic nightmare-before-Coachella. If scrunchies and hair claws can be cool now, shimmer mist should have a seat at the sartorial table, too.
Perhaps in preparation for festival season, or just because glitter is fun, my colleague's prediction was correct: more brands released their own iterations. We have plateaued over the prerequisite three products. POPSUGAR is just going to go ahead and dub shimmer spray a thing (again). Read on to shop our favorites.
Pantene's New Shampoo Is Made With the Same Ingredient as a Go-To Face Cleanser
Don't say we didn't warn you: 2018 is shaping up to be the year of micellar water hair care. You've likely used this skincare staple ingredient to cleanse your face before. Pioneered by Bioderma, the "French girl"-approved, water-based particles are beloved for their ability to gently strip away dirt and grime with just the swipe of a cotton pad - no rinsing required. (This makes it a go-to for both the chic and lazy.)
The latest micellar water haircare product lives right in your local drugstore. It's Pantene Pro-V Blends Gentle Cleansing Water Shampoo and Moisturizing Milk Conditioner Set ($16). And if you have sensitive hair, you'll probably want to get this duo on your head, stat.
While these products will give your hair a deep clean, they won't f*ck up fragile hair. Perhaps you've had the (unfortunate) experience of washing your strands only to end up with that sticky, crunchy, overclean feeling. This is due to a harsh hair product stripping your hair of necessary nutrients; this micellar water option is pH-balanced to ensure that doesn't happen.
Plus, the antioxidant-enriched duo is made without parabens or dyes, and the shampoo is silicone-free. You can pick it up at your local drugstore. Just don't forget to stock up on your favorite micellar water cleanser while you're at it.

"Leotards Are Not the Problem": Aly Raisman Gets Real About Victim-Blaming in Gymnastics
Olympic gold medalist Aly Raisman will not tolerate victim-blaming or -shaming. Raisman, an empowering role model through and through, is no stranger to raising her voice on behalf of assault survivors. She, along with more than 150 women, experienced sexual assault by then-USA Gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar. In January, Raisman gave a powerful victim statement during his trial and condemned the institutional failures that allowed the horrific abuse to go unchecked for years.
On March 25, in the wake of Nassar's sentencing, 23-year-old Raisman took to Twitter and used her exemplary voice again after someone questioned whether "gymnasts should continue wearing leotards."
I was recently asked if gymnasts should continue wearing leotards. Leotards r not the problem. The problem is the many pedophiles out there & the adults who enable them. By saying clothing is part of the issue, u are victim shaming/implying survivors should feel it's their fault.
- Alexandra Raisman (@Aly_Raisman) March 25, 2018
For those of you who do not understand what victim shaming is and why it's so dangerous I urge you to educate yourself. Adults can work together to prevent child sexual abuse. Please #FlipTheSwitch with Darkness to Light https://t.co/cZb5qZkY5U
- Alexandra Raisman (@Aly_Raisman) March 25, 2018
Raisman's tweets emphasize that survivors should never feel at fault, regardless of what they wear; to point out their choice of clothing implies otherwise. Banning leotards or expecting victims to change is not the answer. Instead, Raisman asked her followers to educate themselves and directed them to #FlipTheSwitch, a campaign she started to help protect children from sexual abuse.

Every American Needs to Watch This 11-Year-Old's Impassioned March For Our Lives Speech
Naomi Wadler may only be 11 years old, but she's already shaping up to be a prominent voice in the effort to end gun violence. On March 24, Naomi stood in front of thousands at March For Our Lives in Washington DC to deliver an impassioned speech about how black women in particular are affected by gun violence in America, and her eloquent words were nothing short of brilliant.
"I am here today to acknowledge and represent the African-American girls whose stories don't make the front page of every national newspaper . . . whose stories don't lead on the evening news," said the fifth grader, who led the walkout at her school in Alexandria, VA. She continued, "I represent the African-American women who are victims of gun violence, who are simply statistics instead of vibrant, beautiful girls full of potential."
Naomi acknowledged the fact that her age has been a topic of discussion since she began speaking out in favor of gun safety, with many claiming that she's not old enough to do so. "People have said that I am too young to have these thoughts on my own," she said. "People have said I'm tool of some nameless adult. It's not true."
The 11-year-old went on to note that she and her elementary school friends only have "seven short years" until they vote, before concluding with a Toni Morrison quote. "If there is a book that you want to read, but it hasn't been written yet, you must be the one to write it," Naomi said to the cheering crowd of protesters.
Something tells us this isn't the last we'll see of this courageous, well-spoken girl. Listen to her impassioned words of wisdom below, and then be sure to check out the most powerful signs from the gathering.

Everything You Need to Know About the Stormy Daniels 60 Minutes Interview
Not long after the magazine story was killed, Stormy Daniels says she was threatened by a man who approached her in Las Vegas. "A guy walked up on me and said to me, 'leave Trump alone. Forget the story.'" pic.twitter.com/JMskKQiYCi
- 60 Minutes (@60Minutes) March 25, 2018
Stormy Daniels has spoken.
The adult film actor, producer, and director sat down with Anderson Cooper on the March 25 episode of 60 Minutes, and she did not hold back. The greatly anticipated appearance came only weeks after President Donald Trump's lawyer, Michael Cohen, sued Daniels for $20 million in damages for violating her nondisclosure agreement and mere days after Daniels's lawyer, Michael Avenatti, sent a cryptic, now-viral tweet about a disc associated with the interview.
Accordingly, the interview itself was both the Trump bombshell and nothingburger that many anticipated it to be. Daniels began her relationship with Trump when they met at a golf tournament, and it was her moxie that caught Trump's eye. Daniels then wooed Trump with her ability to stand up to the now-president when the two met in a hotel suite in July 2006; Trump - then aged 60 - bragged about a magazine cover he appeared on which prompted Daniels - then aged 27 - to reply with, "Someone should take that magazine and spank you with it." What came next? Trump dropped his pants and she gave him "a couple of swats." Trump then began to treat Daniels more appropriately, reportedly telling her, "Wow, you - you are special. You remind me of my daughter." The daughter in question is, of course, Ivanka Trump.
Daniels and Trump did indeed have sex, but Daniels noted that this isn't a #MeToo type of story: the relationship was consensual. "I didn't say no," she explained. "I'm not a victim." This July 2006 encounter was the only time the two had sex despite an encounter in July 2007 wherein Trump tried to initiate sex after inviting Daniels to his bungalow at the Beverly Hills Hotel to watch Shark Week.
When Donald Trump won the Republican nomination, Daniels says she started getting calls again with offers to tell her story. And she got one offer not to tell her story. Mr. Trump's attorney Michael Cohen agreed to pay $130K in exchange for signing a non-disclosure agreement. pic.twitter.com/HB98pik8bj
- 60 Minutes (@60Minutes) March 25, 2018
One of the biggest surprises of the interview, though, was when Daniels revealed how she has been repeatedly threatened and intimidated by Trump's team to keep quiet about her story. Daniels sold her story for $15,000 to InTouch in 2011, but said story was canned after Cohen threatened the magazine with a lawsuit. That same year, Daniels mentioned being intimidated in person when a man came up to Daniels and her daughter, saying, "Leave Trump alone. Forget the story," before noting, "That's a beautiful little girl; it would be a shame if something happened to her mom."
Similar threats ultimately caused Daniels to lie about the affair, noting that she felt as if she "had no choice" but to lie. Ultimately, the truth is only emerging now because Daniels is hoping to set her record straight, particularly in light of the 2016 payoff of $130,000 by Cohen. This payoff is significant because it was timed in the aftermath of the release of the now-infamous Entertainment Tonight tape and was an "in-kind contribution" to the Trump campaign. This is a problem, as former Federal Election Commission Chairman Trevor Potter explained to Cooper, that the donation might be illegal because it was "about $126,500 above what he's allowed to give."
While the interview may have been just an hour in the ongoing saga that has been years in the making, the moment is being interpreted in many ways. First, it seems to have done little to sway conservatives and Christians who support Trump - despite the fact that extramarital affairs and paying porn stars for silence are not traditionally seen as appropriate behavior. Analysts have observed that Daniels's story likely won't make a difference in this voting section because of their view of America as a Christian nation that harbors anti-Muslim sentiments. Commentators, like George W. Bush speechwriter Marc Thiessen, reiterate this by boiling support down to one thing: Trump keeping his promises, particularly to protect Christian beliefs and freedoms.
Trump hasn't spoken about the interview directly, but supposedly subtweeted the happening by noting, "So much Fake News. Never been more voluminous or more inaccurate," before assuring followers that the country is "doing great." Cohen has also sent a cease and desist notice to Daniels in response to the interview's airing.
If anything, Daniels's story and situation with Trump have been amplified beyond what either party intended: the episode gave 60 Minutes its highest ratings in 10 years, drawing more than 23 million viewers.

Starbucks Fans Have Some, Um . . . FEELINGS About the Crystal Ball Frappuccino
Gather round, children, for a tale about the days of old. And by "old," I mean wayyyyy back in 2017 when Starbucks introduced a little thing called the Unicorn Frappuccino. The blue and pink drink quickly took over the cultural conversation, compelling people to visit the coffee chain in droves for a taste of its fantasy-creature-inspired flavor - which was, weirdly, quite sour - and of course, trendy Instagram photos. And now, Starbucks is introducing a new drink with similar potential to captivate the brand's loyal customers: the Crystal Ball Frappuccino, which is available at participating locations from March 22 through March 26.
But memories of the long lines and general Instagram-fueled chaos of the Unicorn Frappuccino are inspiring reactions across the board. From those who are scared to enter a Starbucks for the period when the Crystal Ball concoction will be available to those curious folks who'll be first in line, Starbucks fans have all sorts of feelings about the limited-time drink! Read some of the funniest reactions from fans and baristas, then read about what the Crystal Ball Frappuccino looks and tastes like.

Burning Question: Why Does Pineapple Irritate Your Mouth?
Recently I cut myself some fresh pineapple, then promptly proceeded to eat a lot of it before remembering that every time I eat a copious amount of pineapple, the roof of my mouth becomes itchy and sore. So why is this condition a common complaint among fresh pineapple aficionados?
Pineapples contain a plant protease enzyme called bromelain. Because it readily breaks down protein, bromelain is frequently used as a natural meat tenderizer. In addition, bromelain may also induce a prickly sensation in the mouth when consumed.
Although the enzyme is present in all parts of the pineapple plant, it's most concentrated in the stem, the hard piece in the middle of the fruit, which is much more fibrous and chewy but still edible. Many people believe that letting a pineapple sit overnight helps take away the irritation factor, but one surefire way to alleviate the burn is to cut out the core.
Disney Just Dropped 2 Pieces of Millennial Pink Merchandise You'll Be Dying to Own
Disney is doing something right when it comes to social media, and it's all in the ears . . . literally. It seems impossible that the company could dream up any more Instagrammable mouse ears after so freakin' many, but somehow it just keeps 'em coming! And with its latest ear release, Disney went ahead and made all of our lives easier by also releasing a matching spirit jersey right from the get-go . . . so now, you can get your fill of millennial pink goodness, Disney style.
While the sequined, millennial pink ears might look quite similar to the rose gold version that broke the internet in 2017, they're actually lighter and more of the baby pink shade that has become equated with '90s kids. The matching spirit jersey features the appropriate Disney park name displayed in glitter across the back, which means you can weigh in on the ever-contentious issue: which is better - Disneyland or Walt Disney World?
According to Disney Style, both the ears and the jersey will be available in both Anaheim and Orlando starting in April. So mark your calendars - it's time to show off your millennial pride at the parks!
The Embarrassing Side Effect of Peeps Oreos
Update: The 2018 version of Peeps Oreos features a chocolate cookie and purple creme filling. The seasonal Oreos were first introduced in 2017 with a bright-pink filling, and let's never forget how they made some people . . . feel.
Original story: Dear people of the internet,
We're genuinely sorry for what we're about to report. We don't WANT to cover this, but so many have discussed this issue that it must be addressed.
Peeps Oreos, pictured above, are seemingly innocent. Artificial, yes, but pretty tasty - we gave them a fair review! But some people are claiming there's an unpleasant (and rather embarrassing) side effect: Peeps Oreos are turning their poop pink.
I KNOW.
So gross, and how does that even happen? Well, for starters, let's discuss another claim people are making: that the Oreos turn your saliva pink, too. As people who have in fact eaten a couple of the cookies, we can vouch for this. Eating the bright-pink frosting does indeed coat your tongue in a vibrant pink hue. Now, to achieve pink poop, you'd have to eat nearly an entire package, right? It seems the people whose bowel experiences have turned to the dark (pink) side did actually eat a whole package.
My roommate ate a whole pack of oreo Peeps and left a pink stain in the toilet.
- ElleLeven (@Barbeydahl) February 23, 2017
Guys. I ate a whole package of Peep Oreos today...and my poop is pink.
- Zach Moree (@zach_moree) March 1, 2017
Consider yourself warned. Eat Peeps Oreos at your own risk, and if you can't stop at just two Oreos, may we suggest turning to regular Oreos instead?
Sincerely,
A fellow Oreo enthusiast looking out for your health
30+ Cuba Travel Tips You Need to Know Before You Go
I had barely put down my fork after finishing a Cuban meal prepared in a privately owned restaurant called a paladar when someone grabbed my hand and pulled me to my feet. Live music accompanied our meal, and turning down an impromptu salsa dance just isn't acceptable - so dance I did.
Light-footed from sips of Havana Club rum and ready to try out the moves I learned at a lesson earlier in the week, I couldn't help but smile at my situation. Traveling to Cuba as an American means a lot of things. It means navigating a rather complicated system of rules, restrictions, and politics. It means dealing with the reality of a president who is currently making it harder by the day to experience all this country - just 90 miles off the United States coast - has to offer. It means understanding and respecting the harder realities of what Cubans and Cuban-Americans have gone through and are still going through - something tourists should be aware of.
I was able to travel to Cuba with Backroads, an active travel company that made a biking trip through the country launching in January 2017 - full of logistical complications and red tape - look like a breeze and seem like a complete dream.
The trip began in Havana, a city with crumbling historical homes juxtaposed beside colorful structures and shiny, newly reconstructed buildings. We biked daily through towns along the northern coast, by farmland, over hills, and past parts of lush jungle and forest. Experiencing a trip like this, in the open air rather than closed up in a tour bus or car, was like nothing else I've ever done. After eight days, a thousand answers and even more questions, new friendships with Cubans, and yes, a few cigars and sips of Cuban coffee and rum, I learned a thing or two about a place that is in some ways a bit of a mystery to many Americans, due in large part to the embargo and the nature of US-Cuba relations for the past 50+ years.
These takeaways and tips will help you plan your Cuban trip and will hopefully help make your time on this Caribbean island as wonderful (and enlightening!) as my own experience. I'm already counting down the days until I can return to this beautiful place.
